The act of breathing is more than just a simple reflex of the human body; it stands as a sign of life, focuses the mind itself, and in the case of some people, may allow them to tap into abilities that push them far beyond what most are capable of. And in the case of these two combatants, it serves as a method of slaying those who once lived as any normal human."Jonathan Joestar, the Hamon-wielding gentlemen of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. Tanjiro Kamado, the water-breathing warrior of the Demon Slayer corps. Both swordsmen are shining examples of kindness even in battle and proficient in their ability to weaponize their own breath, but only one can come out alive. With their stories and lives having ended, it's time to see which of these two will still be breathing by the end.

Background

Tanjiro Kamado

Tanjiro Kamado was born in the mountainside during Japan’s Taisho Period (July 30th, 1912 to December 25th, 1926). At some point, Tanjiro’s father died and as the oldest of his siblings, Tanjiro had to make money for his family by selling charcoal to a nearby town. One day, a strong snow storm kept Tanjro from returning home, forcing him to spend the night somewhere else before morning came.

The next day, however, Tanjiro came home to find his mother and siblings brutally murdered by an unknown assailant. The only survivor of the attack was his younger sister Nezuko who, unfortunately, got transformed into a demon. Soon after, they were attacked by the Water Hashira Gyu of the Demon Slayer Corps, whose job was to kill Nezuko. However, he spared Nezuko’s life when it was shown that she still retained some of her humanity by protecting her big brother. Afterworlds, he sent Tanjiro to be trained by the former Water Hashira Sakonji to become a demon slayer.

Tanjiro would use his training in the Water Breathing Style to pass the Final Selection to become a full-fledged demon slayer. At some point in his career, Tanjiro would learn the identity of the demon who killed his family, Muzan Kibutsuji (a.k.a. Demon Michael Jackson). In addition, Tanjiro was given a personal task of collecting the blood of Muzan’s underlings, the Twelve Kizuki, for a potential cure to be made that could return Nezuko back to being a human. Eventually, Tanjiro would learn about the Hinokami Kagura that was once taught to him by his late father. With this new knowledge and his goals set in mind, Tanjiro becomes determined to defeat Muzan and transform Nezuko back to being a human.

Jonathan Joestar

Jonathan Joestar was born in Victorian Era London as a member of the wealthy Joestar family. At a young age, Jonathan lost his mother in a carriage accident. However, he and his father were found in the wreckage by Dario Brando and his wife, the parents of Jonathan’s future nemesis, Dio Brando. Jonathan’s father promised to repay Dario for “saving” his life, which would later spell doom for the Joestar family.

12 years later, Jonathan had been living a happy life and striving to be a gentleman. However, his life would forever change with the arrival of Dio Brando, who decided to make Jonathan’s life a living hell. This included killing Jonathan’s dog, acting like a better son in the eyes of Jonathan’s father, taking away all of Jonathan’s friends by spreading bad rumors about the Joestar, and ruining Jonathan’s love life. Jonathan fought back, forcing Dio to back off for a while and rethink his plan.

7 years later, Dio would try to poison Jonathan’s father with the hope of inheriting the Joestar family’s wealth. But with the help of fan favorite Robert E.O. Speedwagon, Jonathan was able to expose Dio’s evil plan and had him arrested. Unfortunately, Dio wouldn’t back down without a fight. Desperate, he used a stone mask that turns people into vampires on himself, killing Jonathan’s father as a result. Jonathan seemingly defeated Dio, but would later find out that the vampire was still alive. With the help of newcomer Baron Will Anthonio Zeppeli, Jonathan learned to harness and weaponize the power of Hamon/Ripple Energy in order to defeat Dio.

Equipment

Tanjiro

Nichirin Blade

The Nichirin Blade is a special weapon used by the Demon Slayer Corp in their war against demons. The reason why is because these blades are forged Scarlet Crimson Iron Sand and Scarlet Crimson Ore that constantly absorb sunlight, a major weakness of demons. Many Nichirin Blades come in different unique colors, depending on the user’s skills. Tanjiro’s sword is colored black. While the properties of this color are not yet understood, a black Nichirin Blade symbolizes the sun.

Tanjiro can also raise the temperature of his blade to turn it red, whether through Nezuko’s blood demon art, by utilizing a strong grip, or when two Nichirin Blades clash together. These crimson red Nichirin Blades messes with a demon’s healing factor and can burn them on a cellular level to the point that their wounds won’t be able to heal.

Jonathan

Luck and Pluck

Image result for jonathan joestar luck and pluck gif

After defeating the undead knight Bruford, Jonathan was given a new sword named “Luck” by the fallen warrior as a sign of respect. Later on, a dying Zeppeli would draw the letter “P” on the sword’s handle with his blood, renaming it “Pluck.” However, the sword is commonly referred to as “Luck and Pluck” outside the JoJo series. Jonathan is able to infuse it with Hamon as a way to counter Dio’s freezing ability without having to make direct contact with him. This proved successful, as he was able to cut off Dio’s left arm before cutting his whole body clean in half.

Abilities

Tanjiro

Enhanced Sense of Smell

Even before he became a demon slayer, Tanjiro had an incredible sense of smell. His sense of smell is strong enough to allow him to smell the “line of interval” (the slight pause in an enemy’s movement that leaves an opening to strike), detect traps and use their scent to dodge them, and distinguish between species as well as their approximate positions. After some more training, Tanjiro can now smell emotions and track objects (humans and demons) over long distances. In addition, he can also use his sense of smell to predict his opponents’ movements faster than the “line of interval”.

Animal Communication

Despite having a talking crow that other people are aware of, Tanjiro is able to understand bird language. An example is shown in which Tanjiro is completely aware of what Zenitsu’s bird is saying word for word.

Hard Head

Tanjiro’s head is commonly shown to be extremely tough, often compared to a rock in toughness. It’s so tough in fact that it caused Nezuko, as a demon, to bleed when she tried to headbutt it (pictured above). In combat, Tanjiro is known for utilizing this to match power with opponents like Inosuke or hit enemies even when he can't use his arms.

Breathing Styles

Breathing styles are swordsmanship styles taught by the Demon Slayer Corps, allowing demon slayers to be capable of fighting on par with demons. The Breathing Styles make use of specific and concentrated breathing patterns, which increase the user’s lung capacity and the amount of oxygen in the blood. This increase of oxygen allows the user to enhance their physical abilities and mental concentration. This allows them to fight on par with demons, who are naturally physically stronger than humans. Focused breathing is also capable of clotting wounds from severe injuries and slowing down the circulation of poison in the bloodstream.

Total Concentration Breathing, an advanced application of Breathing, is a state where a Breathing Style user inhales the maximum amount of oxygen within a specific breath pattern to raise their physical and mental prowess to their utmost limits. It is often used by demon slayers for a brief moment to temporarily boost their combat capabilities to prepare a decisive attack.

Breathing Hybridization is when a demon slayer uses more than one Breathing Style technique at a time, allowing them to take advantage of the advantageous aspects of both techniques. With Breathing Hybridization, Tanjiro can use both the Water Breathing and Sun Breathing styles simultaneously.

Water Breathing

Tanjiro was taught the Water Breathing Style by the former Water Hashira Sakonji. This Breathing Style allows Tanjiro to increase the amount of oxygen in his blood through the control of his breathing pattern. As a result, this strength and agility increased to match a demon’s. He was able to increase his base strength, speed, and stamina thanks to his training in Total Concentration Breathing. Using his enhanced strength and ability to find the 'line of interval,' Tanjiro can utilize ten different moves based on the Water Breathing Style:

Hinokami Kagura

Translated as “Dance of the Fire God” and also known as the Sun Breathing Style, the Hinokami Kagura was taught to Tanjiro by his late father. It’s a breathing technique that increases the user's strength and endurance and is composed of 12 segments repeated from sunset to sunrise. In addition, there’s also an unknown 13th form that is achieved if the segments are repeated one after another, as the techniques are meant to be connected like a circle from Dance to Flame Dance. Every other Breathing Style is derived from Hinokami Kagura, which is passed on from father to son in every generation alongside a pair of hanafuda earrings.

While the Hinokami Kagura gives Tanjiro a massive boost in strength, durability and speed, it can also be extremely damaging to him if used for too long. This Breathing Style also allows Tanjiro to use abilities from the other schools of breath without formal training. These are the techniques used in the Hinokami Kagura:

Thunder Breathing

Despite having no formal training in the style, Tanjiro is able to use techniques from this school by simply hearing his companion, Agatsuma Zenitsu, describe the feeling he gets when he uses it. The Thunder Breathing Style focuses on channeling strength into the user's legs, concentrating every muscle and forces oxygen into the blood vessels to allow for explosive speed in one direction. Tanjiro has been shown to be able to use at least 1 technique from this style:
  • Thunder Clap Flash/Clap of Thunder - The primary technique of the Thunder Breathing Style that allows for a sudden burst in speed forward, creating the sound of thunder while moving.

See-Through World

Just his father, Tanjiro gains the ability to foresee an opponent's attack while showing no battle spirit and sense of blood-lust. This allows him to achieve immunity from anyone who can sense these. In this state, Tanjiro’s movement intuition and evasion speed increase dramatically due to a gain in hyper-perception. Because of this, he perceives the world around him at a much faster rate, making the world appear to him in slow motion. Tanjiro can enter the “see-through world” by becoming aware of every part of his body and "closing" any unneeded actions out like one would close their eyes when trying to hear something. By seeing through an enemy, Tanjro can observe muscles, blood vessels, lungs, and all their contractions and accurately predict and react to his opponent's movements, as well as confirm the health and well-being of others.

Demon Slayer Mark

The Demon Slayer Mark is a mysterious marking that can be unlocked and may appear on the body of a strong demon slayer, looking somewhat like a tattoo, scar, or birthmark. These usually appear in demon slayers that had survived the life-threatening conditions of having a heart rate over 200 bpm and a body temperature over 39° Celsius (102.2° Fahrenheit). The precondition for unlocking it is that an individual directly related to the Sun Breathing has been born with it. Tanjiro unlocked his during his separate fights with the demons Gyutaro and Akaza. However, the mark has a drawback in which Tanjiro can only enter this state on rare occasions, and can only use it for a very short period, since it causes exhaustion.

Upon activating the mark, Tanjiro is granted superhuman strength, speed, and enhanced breathing techniques beyond that of a normal Breathing Style user, and can even rival that of the strongest demons. The mark also allows Tanjiro to enter the see-through world (look above for more info). Lastly, the mark allows Tanjiro to dye his Nichirin Blade in a crimson red color. As mentioned before, a Crimson Red Nichirin Blade has the ability to hamper the enhanced regeneration of demons.

Jonathan

Hamon

While recovering from his first major battle with Dio, Jonathan was approached by a man named Baron Will Anthonio Zeppeli. The Baron informed Jonathan about the evils brought by the stone mask as well as the fact that Dio is still alive. However, Zeppeli also offered to teach Jonathan Sendo, an ancient form of martial arts in which the user utilizes Hamon (also known as Ripple). And during his death later in the series, Zeppeli transferred his Hamon energy to Jonathan, boosting the Joestar’s own Hamon power.

Hamon is an energy that comes from the flow of a person’s own blood and is very identical to the energy of the Sun. Through proper breathing, the human body can create and manipulate Hamon energy. Unlike Stands, Hamon can be seen by non-Hamon users as electricity-like sparks. Normally, Hamon is used to healing various wounds and injuries such as a broken neck, a shattered arm, and squeezing out poison or vampiric essence. Though there are some other uses such as walking on water like Jesus, detecting an enemy’s location, making flowers bloom, making living things fall unconscious, manipulating blood as well as being infused into it, stopping hearts, and controlling other people’s bodies. All it takes is a single breath to recharge Hamon energy. And considering JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure is a Shonen series, Hamon can be used in combat to fight vampires and various other undead creatures. Thus, Jonathan learned and created a variety of combat techniques that utilize Hamon.

Weaknesses

Tanjiro

Tanjiro may be an extremely skilled fighter, but he has a fair share of weaknesses. While his Nichirin Blade is capable of cutting through demons, with enough force it can be completely broken, which of course hinders him significantly. Additionally, while his Fire God Breathing Techniques are easily the most powerful techniques that he has, they can be extremely damaging to the body (moreso after using Breath of Water techniques).

Tanjiro is also extremely kind to a fault and prefers battling with honor. As such he will rarely, if ever, use unsavory tactics to win in a fight, which can make him predictable and easy to counter. He’s also an extremely terrible liar.

Jonathan

Image result for jonathan joestar death gif

Jonathan may be the first JoJo, but he has his weaknesses. In order for Jonathan to use his Hamon, he needs to have a constant flow of breathing, and if he loses that focus, he cannot use his Hamon as well. As such, Jonathan needs to be focused at all times on his breathing rather than the fight itself  or he cannot use Hamon to the fullest extent.

Also, while the common misconception “Hamon only works on undead or Pillar Men” is untrue, as Hamon has shown to work on other humans in both Phantom Blood and Battle Tendency, Hamon does tend to be more effective against undead foes, rather than other humans.

Jonathan’s biggest weakness, though, is that he’s a very good boy. In other words, he can be extremely naive at times and his nobility often costs him. Unless he’s fighting mindless undead, he will always hold back to some extent, as he always looks for the good in others (yes, even Dio). Due to his nobility, he also never resorts to any underhanded tactics, making him fairly predictable in a fight.

This is the last you’ll hear of me until Death Battle returns. So why not go out on a high note? Tanjiro vs Jonathan has always been one of my most wanted matches ever since I got into Demon Slayer.

So let’s take a look at their advantages and disadvantages. Both are quite dead-even in strength and durability. But speed-wise, Jonathan has Tanjiro beat thanks to scaling to the likes of Joseph. Tanjiro is surprisingly more experienced, due to training for several years compared to Jonathan training around a month. Tanjiro’s also the better swordsman too. So Jonathan has speed, while Tanjiro has the skills/experience. So it comes down to whose abilities are better.

Jonathan comes out on top, as Hamon can directly affect Tanjiro’s internal organs, causing him to be severely crippled from his breathing-style. Tanjiro on the other hand, has many breathing techniques, but none of them would be anything that could severely affect Jonathan. In short, they’re nothing but flashy sword attacks (that aren’t actually as flashy as those visual effects aren’t really seen by the characters) that don’t do anything due to Jonathan’s insane speed advantage.

So to sum this up, Tanjiro had the experience and skills, but couldn’t match Jonathan’s speed, techniques and abilities. My prediction is that Jonathan do what Tanjiro Kamadon’t.

VampyreNVRmore

Death Battle may be on a break, but that doesn’t mean we have to either. The prediction blog has already released Mewtwo vs Zero, so we have 4 more match-ups to go before Beerus’ fight gets announced. (Spoiler alert: I’m in one of the prediction blogs for the other 3 as well as the prediction blog for Beerus’ fight. He better not fight Jean Grey/Phoenix).

Anyway, Tanjiro vs Jonathan is a unique match-up idea that was spawned only a couple of months ago. With how popular Demon Slayer had gotten, it makes sense for suggestions to be made for match-up ideas for Tanjiro since he's the main character of the series. Luckily for him, his best opponent just so happens to be a character with numerous similarities and is well known by anime fans. I’ve been a fan of both series, so let’s find out who wins in a fight between their main characters.

These two are pretty comparable in terms of strength and durability. Tanjiro is comparable to the demon Doma, who created an ice sculpture worth 70.1 tons of TNT while weakened from poison. Fellow demon slayers Kanao and Inosuke fought Doma when they made that sculpture, and Tanjiro is shown to be at their level. As for Jonathan, he, or rather his corpse, survived a boat explosion worth 64 tons of TNT. Dio, or rather just his head, also survived the same explosion and has been harmed by Jonathan before. Sure Tanjiro seems to be a bit ahead of the Joestar, but that advantage hardly makes a difference.

Now let’s about their abilities. By looking at the abilities section, it’s obvious that Tanjiro has a lot more than Jonathan. However, Hamon provides a wide versatility that can help the first Joestar. It can heal people, manipulate and infuse with blood, control their bodies, and stop hearts among many others. For Tanjiro, his extraordinary sense of smell allows him to nullify stealth. Next, his breathing techniques can heal wounds and increase his strength, speed, and durability. In addition, the See-Through World will heighten his reaction speed and perception while also allowing him to see everything in his opponent’s body that’ll allow him to predict the
opponent’s next attack. Finally, the Demon Slayer Mark can boost Tanjiro’s stats in times of need.

So, how will the abilities of both combatants play off with each other? For one thing, Hamon provides better healing for the user than the Breathing Styles. As a result, Jonathan will be able to sustain before damage than Tanjiro. The demon slayer’s biggest help is the See-Through world. Not only will it help Tanjiro with his reaction speed and prediction of Jonathan’s attacks, it can potentially give him a solid look at how Hamon operates. On the other hand though, Jonathan can use his Hamon to manipulate Tanjro’s blood or infuse Hamon into it, control the young demon slayer’s body, or stop Tanjiro’s heart. All of these methods can disrupt Tanjiro’s breathing, which is vital for him to perform his techniques. Sounds like an even match between these two, right?

Not exactly. Speed is the key factor in this fight and is therefore the deciding factor. At his best, Tanjiro scales to Nezuko and Zenitsu, both of whom reacted to lightning. The results are Mach 1830.26. As for Jonathan, he was able to go toe to toe with Dio in Part 1. Dio was superior to Joseph Joestar in Part 3, who, in Part 2, jumped over a laser to dodge it. In addition, Dio was using Jonathan’s body in Part 3. I can tell how bizarre this all sounds, but it’s true. This laser dodging feat results in 2.234 times the speed of light, which is much faster than the feats Tanjiro scales to. Therefore, Jonathan is able to stop Tanjiro’s heart or use the other methods I mentioned above before Tanjiro can ever get a chance to predict them.

This fight can be close, but the wide speed gap makes the outcome very clear cut. This is a match-up that I never would’ve thought of if not for Mal. Plus, if Demon Slayer hadn’t obtained the popularity it has now, people would’ve still requested Jonathan to fight Simon Belmont, which is a really unfair fight. In the end, Jonathan Joestar will be the one to slay Tanjiro Kamado.

DekHead

All jokes aside, this matchup is surprisingly difficult to decide. When comparing attack potency and durability, Jonathan’s body and Dio’s head survived a 64 ton ship explosion in relatively good condition. While some may debate the this feat since Stardust Crusaders had shown that Dio had hidden in his coffin with Jonathan’s body to survive, the fact that the two were explicitly shown to be hit by the explosion at the epicenter without getting into the coffin and the presentation of the scene means it’s more likely that Dio only did so to avoid drowning. Meanwhile, Tanjiro could scale to a weakened Doma, who created this ice sculpture that could be calculated at 70.1 tons of TNT with a potential high end at 321.98 tons of TNT. So, depending on how you want to play it, Tanjiro would hold the advantage from a slight amount to 5 times stronger or tougher than anything Jonathan survived.

But even then, strength isn’t everything. Jonathan could match Dio, who fought Joseph Joestar later in Stardust Crusaders, and Joseph was shown to be able to dodge a laser by jumping over it. This would put him a bit over twice the speed of light, or 702,000,000 m/s. In comparison, Tanjiro could scale to Zenitsu dodging lightning at 622289.77 m/s. As far as speed is concerned, Jonathan had a much greater advantage than Tanjiro had in strength either way. Meaning that while Tanjiro was a bit stronger, Jonathan could land far more hits that closed the gap hundreds of times over. So, case closed, right?
Not exactly. While physicality is extremely important, the most integral part of this debate came down to their unique fighting styles. Tanjiro still had far more training with his breathing styles and experience in swordsmanship, while Jonathan only trained with Hamon for a few days and wielded Luck and Pluck for a few hours at best. Not to mention that Tanjiro’s wide variety of attacks could likely interfere with Jonathan’s healing techniques, deduce how Hamon works. and possibly lower the gap in speed to some extent. So, there’s a good deal of circumstances where Tanjiro could take the win.

However, while Tanjiro’s breathing styles gave him more attacks and offensive techniques, Jonathan’s Hamon also had a wider range of uses, such as manipulating blood, instantly repairing broken bones in comparison to Breathing Styles only healing minor wounds, detecting Tanjiro’s position, and even controlling Tanjiro’s own body with just a breath of Hamon. This meant that not only could Jonathan endure the fight for a longer time, he was also properly equipped to exploit Tanjiro’s similar reliance on breathing for his techniques given how Hamon can affect the inner organs of the body or even force it to simply move to the user’s whims altogether. And Jonathan’s superior speed would allow him to exploit and discover this weakness before Tanjiro had a chance to do the same to him.

This is (ahem) an extremely close fight, and Tanjiro’s greater power and training could allow him to take the victory in some cases. But Jonathan’s exponentially greater speed, versatility, and precise attacks were enough to take the win. Looks like Tanjiro drew his last breath.

Also, thanks to Mal for getting me onto this blog!

Sooo, Jonathan vs Tanjiro - this is definitely a fight that i have been extremely interested in for a while now due to being a huge fan of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure. Finding a possible matchup for Tanjiro was difficult due to how recent Demon Slayer in terms of it’s mainstream popularity but the more we at the G1DBFB as well as the DEATH BATTLE Cast Discord thought of this matchu, the more we thought that actually - this fight makes an extreme amount of sense as both are Shonen Protagonists who are Swordsmanship that use the power of Breathing Energy in order to slay Undead Monsters. While there are definitely a couple of potential Tanjiro matchups that could make for interesting matchups in their own right - ultimately this one was chosen due to the connections as well as the closeness of the actual fight. I personally love this matchup and I am excited to share this matchup idea in blog form to the readers of the G1DBFB as well as anyone who is interested in this matchup. Anyway, with the introduction out of the way let’s get into the real meat and potatoes of this fight, shall we.

In terms of strength, this matchup is extremely close with Phantom Blood and Demon Slayer actually being fairly close to each other in terms of strength and durability feats. Jonathan has beaten one of the strongest zombies that was shown in Phantom Blood that being Tarkus, with Tarkus being able to split entire hills apart through raw physical strength alone. Considering that Jonathan overpowered Tarkus through Hamon and Physical Strength, it stands to reason that Jonathan should be physically comparable to him. The Tarkus feat got to around 3167200000 Joules 756 kg of TNT. This is around  Building level in terms of Destructive Capability. Since Jonathan scales to Tarkus - his Destructive Capability Potential is likely 31672000 Joules or 756 kg of TNT as well.

In terms of Tanjiro, in terms of shown feats. Tanjiro is capable of cutting through an entire boulder. It would take around  343839420 joules of energy considering the Boulder’s Size. This would put Tanjiro at around Small Building Level - but of course this isn’t the only feat we can use for him or scale him to. Considering that Tanjiro defeated Muzan who is the strongest of the Upper Moon Demons, he should be stronger than the likes of Doma who creates a massive ice sculpture. In order to perform such a feat it would take around  293330874624 Joules or 70.1 Tons of TNT. Which would put Tanjiro at around City Block Levels of Destructive Capability.

Ultimately I see Tanjiro having the edge though it wouldn’t be a massive gap in terms of Destructive Capability if we scale him to Muzan/Doma.

In terms of durability. Jonathan’s best durability feat is kinda questionable but not in terms of the maths but more in the context, you see Jonathan’s Body survived the exploding boat (Dio and Jonathan’s body were two explicitly shown to be hit by the explosion at the epicenter without getting into the coffin so Dio/Jonathan’s Body actually tanked the explosion)which came to around to 64 tons of tnt but Jonathan was well...dead at the time. To counterpoint that, while Jonathan mentally was dead - his body still tanked this explosion so i think it’s fair to be used.

Tanjiro has tanked attacks from building busting characters such as  Nezuko's Demon Form who smashed him through several story floors of a building as well as tanked a slash that destroyed multiple buildings. Considering the sizes of the building during 1910’s Japan (they weren’t very big) - i would say it would likely take around 2 tons of TNT in order to destroy buildings of that size in 1910s Japan. Considering that Tanjiro tanked that attack it would make his durability at around Small Building to Building Level. Considering that Nezuko was able to smash through several story floors of a building, that seems consistent.

I would say ultimately Tanjiro has the slight edge in Destructive Capability but draws Jonathan when it comes to durability.

Speed on the other hand is where things completely tip in the favour of Jonathan. Jonathan was shown capable of intercepting an attack from Dio Brando in an attempt to save Will Anthonio Zeppeli. Considering the speed that Dio was rushing towards them and how quickly Jonathan managed to incept the attack - that would calc Jonathan’s Speed to be around Mach 38 which is High Hypersonic Levels. Other Hamon Users have also shown impressive feats such as when Jonathan’s Grandson - Joseph managed to react to a ray of light from the sun. While it’s very likely that Jonathan is weaker then Joseph - he should be in the same ballpark in terms of strength, speed and durability. Considering that Joseph’s speed feat was calced to be 2.324x the speed of light or Massively Faster than Light.

Tanjiro has shown that he is capable of dodging an attack from a demon and then blitzing him. Considering the speed that attack was moving as well as how fast Tanjiro reacted to it, that feat was around Mach 12.16 or Hypersonic+. Though if you scale him to Thunder Breathing user Zenitsu (which is fair as the two have been shown to be equals numerous times in the series) who intercepted Kaigaku’s Thunder Breathing technique at Mach 1830.26 that would put Tanjiro’s Speed at being Massively Hypersonic through scaling to Zenitsu.

Ultimately in terms of both shown feats and scaling to other characters - Jonathan has the massive speed gap as Jonathan’s Mach 38 feat is 3 times greater than Tanjiro’s Mach 12 feat and even if you scale to other characters - scaling Jonathan to Joseph would put him as Massively Father than Light compared to Tanjiro who would be Massively Hypersonic+ if you scaled him to Zenitsu. Either way - Jonathan definitely takes the category when it comes to speed.

Ultimately in terms of stats, i definitely do think Tanjiro has the edge in terms of destructive capability - but Jonathan has shown to be more durable and been shown to be much faster. So i would say he takes 2 of the 3 Stat Categories.

While i do think Stats are important in this fight, I would actually say that ultimately the hard-truth is that while both Breathing Abilities are extremely impressive for both combatants - Jonathan’s Hamon expertly counters Tanjiro’s Breathing Styles. Considering that Hamon allows the user to manipulate manipulating blood flow which directly affects a person’s breathing it is not out of the question that Jonathan can manipulate the blood flow within Tanjiro’s body in order to cause him severe internal damage as well as manipulate Tanjiro’s own body to prevent him from using Breathing Styles (Jonathan has controlled other people’s bodies using Hamon in the past). Considering that Tanjiro’s breathing styles rely on his own internal blood flow as well as functioning organs in order to make full extent of it - ultimately this fight is going to come down to if Jonathan can manipulate Tanjiro’s internal organs in order to prevent Tanjiro’s superior destructive capability from overwhelming him and in all honestly i think he would.

As established in the Stats Discussion, Jonathan through shown feats and through scaling is considerably faster so it is very likely that Jonathan would be able to close the distance with his speed and severely hindered Tanjiro from using his Breathing Styles against him with Hamon Attacks. Though it is possible that this won’t stop Tanjiro’s attacks completely - it will severely hamper him, leading to Jonathan finishing Tanjiro through complete organ disruption.

Ultimately this fight is extremely close and I could see it going either way with several solid arguments could be used to explain why Tanjiro would win but more times than not I would say that Jonathan takes it due to his superior speed and his ability to disrupt Tanjiro’s breathing styles. Looks like Tanjiro’s Breathing Styles pale in comparison to Jonathan.

SPOOKYU

Tanjiro vs Jonathan was a matchup I went into very skeptical. I didn’t really see Jonathan having any kind of feats to put him on Tanjiro’s level, and to be fair, part of that is just due to how short Phantom Blood is compared to the entirety of Demon Slayer as a series. However, I looked into it and heard the arguments from the researchers, and I was surprised to see that Jonathan did indeed have his own advantages over Tanjiro.

Though, I have to be real here, I still don’t buy Jonathan scaling to lightspeed characters. He can be faster than Tanjiro, sure, but not MASSIVELY faster. I just don’t find the scaling concrete or clear cut enough to say without a doubt that yes, Jonathan can react at speeds over light because we never see him do it and characters we’re scaling him to perform feats of speed that are (almost) undeniably faster than what he can perform. I’m willing to buy that he’s faster, but let’s put lightspeed aside for a sec and just say he’s a few times quicker than Demon Slayer Sal here.

Jonathan’s got the strength to make every blow he lands on Tanjiro count, but Tanjiro is just crazy resilient and tenacious. He honestly rivals Izuku on sheer “What are broken bones” force. Even if Jonathan gets his big hits in, there’s nothing to suggest those blows are going to be anywhere near enough to put Tanjiro down for good. The kid is just way too tough and stubborn. Meanwhile, Tanjiro’s got the superior training and experience to keep Joestar on his toes, and while hamon IS crazy useful and versatile. In terms of combat potential Tanjiro’s breathing forms are just much better designed for fighting. Not to mention Tanjiro’s sense of smell can apparently detect openings in an opponent’s attacks, which seems to me like the perfect counter to an opponent like Jonathan who’s less proficient in a sword fight but can swing and move much faster than him.

Jonathan has a good chance if he can break Tanjiro’s sword, which isn’t completely out of the question if he can pull a Star Platinum and catch it mid-swing, then just use his sheer strength to snap it. Forcing Tanjiro to face him in melee combat greatly pulls the fight in Jonathan’s favour, but it’s not exactly going to be easy for him given how experienced Tanjiro is in swordsmanship and the tricks he can pull off with his sword, like setting it on fire and bending elements. Jonathan’s hamon has its tricks, but let’s not forget that he’s not as experienced with it as any of the other hamon users we’ve seen throughout the series. Tanjiro has had way more time with his breathing forms and is much more comfortable with his powerset.

It’s a close bout for sure, and Jonathan does have many openings to take advantage of his superior strength and speed, but I just see Tanjiro taking this more times than not. He’s more experienced, more skilled, more comfortable with his powers than Jonathan, and has the unique tools necessary to bridge the gaps in speed and strength. And if he can bridge those gaps, then it’ll come down to which of them is more combat-lethal. Jonathan'll give it his all, but Tanjiro's sure to leave him breathless.

Unserious Sam

Two very good boys are about to fight it out, so we all cry either way. Anyway, here’s the gist.

In terms of Attack Potency and Durability, the best direct feat in that regard for Demon Slayer goes to Doma’s 70 Tons of TNT feat for creating statues made out of ice energy he absorbed during the fight against Inosuke and Kanao (linked above). Doma performs this feat while being weakened by a poison, and Inosuke and Kanao both prove capable of harming him and piercing his constructs during the fight, meaning they (and by extension, Tanjiro, as he fights on even ground against Muzan alongside both of them and more Demon Slayers shortly after this feat) should be comparable.

In terms of Jonathan, his body was capable of surviving the 60 Tons of TNT explosion at the end of Part 1 (hence Dio using his body for the entirety of Part 3). While it seems like Tanjiro is ahead a little by this logic (especially because you could argue Tanjiro to upscale even more from the feat given his variety of strength boosting techniques), another feat worth mentioning for Jojo is Jolyne's Stone Free being able to endure hits from Planet Waves small meteors (372 Tons of TNT), which you COULD scale Jonathan to via a slightly longer scaling chain (Jotaro in Part 6 was at his weakest, and could still compare to Jolyne. Jotaro in his prime fought Dio, who was using Jonathan’s body). Some people might find this scaling chain a liiiittle too long, especially with the gaps between Hamon Era and Stand era Jojo Parts. Even without this, Jonathan should absolutely be comparable to the best feats within Demon Slayer in AP and Dura, so no matter how you slice it, Jonathan and Tanjiro are at bare minimum comparable in AP and Durability.

So with stats this close, how is speed?

Well

Tanjiro should absolutely compare to Zenitsu’s Thunder Clap technique via being able to use it and compare to Zenitsu in general (which should have speed akin to natural lightning, as it creates claps much like lightning does, and can leave visible smoke trails after in the anime’s depiction). When using this technique against Kaigaku, another Thunder Breathing Style user, he managed to intercept his attack, which got a result of Mach 1800+ (linked above). This is consistent with characters like Nezuko, who can push Tanjiro out of the way of another Demon who uses attacks described as “lightning”.

However, consistent lightning timing is nothing when compared to Jojo’s surprisingly consistent light timing. If we want to use just the first 2 parts, Joseph and Ceaser both dodge beams of concentrated sunlight from the Red Stone of Aja (linked above), and Kars blocking attacks from Stroheim's Ultraviolet light based attacks. Joseph fighting with Straizo, who had previously fought in battles alongside Jonathan in Part 1, should allow scaling to be consistent (and there is little reason to assume Jonathan would be exponentially slower than more cocky, less physical based Hamon users like Joseph). If we want to go even farther, you could argue Jonathan being scaled to Silver Chariot intercepting the Hanged Man, a light based Stand, which had gotten 365 times the speed of light, via Dio using Jonathan’s body to beat Polnareff and his Silver Chariot. Regardless of how generous you want to be, Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure has consistent light timing feats you could apply to Jonathan, as opposed to Demon Slayer’s consistent lightning timing.

So what we are left with is Jonathan and Tanjiro being almost identical in Strength and Durability, with Jonathan scaling to feats faster than anything Tanjiro has ever faced. Does Tanjiro have any ways to get around his disadvantages here?

Well

Tanjiro is much more experienced in combat via being trained for a much longer period of time (several years VS Jonathan’s month), and his breathing styles have more offensive versatility in both attacks and swordsmanship.
Plus, The See-Through World would likely give the Demon Slayer a way to see how Hamon works, especially given that breathing techniques are the bread and butter for any Demon Slayer’s attacks.

All of these are really good advantages, but it would be extremely hard for Tanjiro to ever utilize them when he can not hit or see the movements of his opponent. And those advantages can also similarly apply to Jonathan.

As they are both comparable in AP and Durability, Jonathan could likely use Hamon to affect Tanjiro’s blood, or stop his heart, which would cause the breathing styles to be compromised, leaving Taniro a sitting duck.

Hamon and the Breathing Techniques both amplify stats, and both can heal wounds, so it’s likely they could figure out the basis of each other’s abilities early on, in which case Jonathan’s speed advantage becomes all the more prominent, allowing a sure fire way to stop his opponent.

So as a recap, Tanjiro is more experienced and more versatile, however Jonathan essentially renders all of that moot by being able to use his comparable abilities and superior speed to close in and put a stop to Tanjiro in his tracks.

This is fairly short, and fairly straightforward.
Jonathan’s sheer speed basically nullifies any and all of Tanjiro’s biggest advantages, giving him a way to finish off the fight in a very consistent and clear way.

The Joe-Star of this fight is going to SLAY

Time

I’d like to start off by thanking the G1 Blog for allowing me to chime in on this blog! As a long time Death Battle fan and reader of the Prediction Blogs, this has been a really cool experience and I look forward to working on more in the future.

Jonathan Joestar VS Tanjiro Kamado. This matchup has quite caught my interest in recent months. As a huge JoJo nut, close and thematic fights for my bois are always appreciated, and it pleases me to say Jonathan here finally has another noble, night creature-slaying sword-wielding anime protag who doesn’t slap his shit into the dirt with a mere glance like some of his past options, such as Simon Belmont, Kenshiro, or Siegfried. Tanjiro serves as a thematic foe who is more than capable of holding his ground against JoJo with neither completely outclassing the other.

Jumping into the verdict, let’s begin by comparing their arsenals and overall skill sets. Contrary to what the age gap may imply, Tanjiro is ironically more experienced and better trained than JoJo, having spent 2 years perfecting his art with a blade and honing his skills enough to successfully pull off complex maneuvers few in his order could even hope to achieve. Compare this to Jonathan, who got a few day crash course in Hamon before being sent off to face Dio one final time. To JoJo’s credit, however, we do know he at least has some boxing experience from his youth, and he is far more comfortable fighting unarmed than Tanjiro, who would be severely hindered without his blade.
With their actual abilities, both use their breathing as the source of power behind their techniques. Tanjiro is capable of performing powerful Breaths of Water and Sun maneuvers to strengthen his blows, see Jonathan’s vital organs with See-Through World, and always sniff him down with his acute sense of smell. Notably, See-Through World makes Tanjiro’s movements very difficult to predict by completely obscuring his blood-lusted intent and the detailed view on Jonathan’s insides would likely yield him a quite detailed look at how his Hamon flows through the body, giving Tanjiro the knowledge necessary to try countering its flow any way he can. Jonathan, on the other hand, can weaponize Hamon to strengthen his attacks and have it flow through any substance he touches. Although Hamon typically does little harm to living creatures lacking a weakness to the Sun, as other verdicts above show, it had been able to manipulate blood flow on accident, knock people unconscious, control living bodies, and even stopping hearts altogether. Furthermore, metal can conduct Hamon, so just touching Tanjiro’s blade can allow Jonathan to potentially take advantage of these abilities on the Demon Slayer. It is worth noting, although Hamon can potentially affect living creatures in these ways, Jonathan has only shown one or two applications at most and it’s possible, even likely he doesn’t understand the full effect of Hamon on another living being. However, he has directly controlled a living body with Hamon and controlling blood flow was done on complete accident. Even just these two could be very effective against Tanjiro, with the former putting a stop to his superior skill and techniques while the latter could disrupt his cardiovascular system and thus hinder the effects of his breathing which fuels his power. Although Tanjiro is better with a sword and will have a solid glimpse of Jonathan’s Hamon, the potential ways Hamon can disrupt or incapacitate the Demon Slayer are far more dangerous in this fight, giving the ultimate abilities edge to JoJo.

Moving onto the real bread & butter of any VS debate, the stat spread is once again ultimately key to finding our definitive winner. Since others have gone over the feats in detail above, I shall keep this comparison brief and just go over their most impressive stats, except for Jonathan’s speed, as that has some possible variability to it.

When comparing raw strength and durability, Jonathan’s best feat is lifting this rock. Clearly, such a feat is far beyond anything in the Demon Slayer world, allowing Jonathan to annihilate with sheer strength. All memes and microton rocks aside, Jonathan’s best feat is when his dead body and Dio’s severed head were in the middle of this boat explosion, clocking in at 64 tons of TNT. Although Dio was later found alive and well in a coffin a century later, the scene itself pretty clearly shows Dio had no time to get into the coffin before the explosion, meaning they must have taken the brunt of the impact. On the other end, Tanjiro is clearly a top tier in his verse at his peak, having the strength to put down Demon Lord Michael Jackson and many of his high tier demons once and for all. This allows him to scale not only to, but significantly past, Doma, who was able to make an ice statue, requiring 70 tons of TNT's worth of energy, while in a weakened state. This means, contrary to what JoJo’s imposing bodybuilder build may imply, Tanjiro is significantly stronger than someone who was comparable to Jonathan while weakened. Thus, Tanjiro should be unquantifiably stronger than Jonathan, but not to a degree where JoJo would be incapable of harming him.
Regarding speed, Jonathan doesn’t have any direct feats which clearly show his upper limit. However, he is clearly comparable to Dio, a particularly powerful vampire in the JoJo world. Dio, with his superhuman might, should at the very least be comparable to Straizo, a fodder vampire who held his own against Joseph, who can react to sunlight at over twice the speed of light. Considering every other part of JoJo has abundant FTL feats and Jonathan’s ability to hold his own against Dio, it should be reasonable for him to at least match this ballpark of speed. Furthermore, DIO described to Hol Horse that Jonathan's body was still rejecting him after a century together, weakening his healing powers. This slow healing, plus the lack of various vampiric powers used in Part 3, strongly imply Jonathan’s body had weakened DIO’s vampiric powers as a whole, which would include his physique. Thus, one can argue that Jonathan could scale to DIO, who has shown to be capable of reacting to Star Platinum's attacks and casually deflecting the Emerald Splash, which Star Platinum initially struggled to do itself. This implies DIO’s reactions scale to Star Platinum, who famously matched the enhanced speed of Silver Chariot, the same one which intercepted the Stand Hanged Man, which exists as a beam of light, at 365c. Thus, it is possible for Jonathan to potentially be significantly faster than Joseph’s 2.3c feat. Luckily, Tanjiro is much easier to analyze in speed. Tanjiro is consistently seen being on par with, and later superior to, Zenitsu, who was able to blitz lightning at Mach 1830. While that gets well over hypersonic speeds, Tanjiro pales in comparison to the superluminal swiftness of JoJo, letting Jonathan have a blitzing speed advantage over Tanjiro.

Overall, Tanjiro puts up a stellar fight. With his greater durability, he can take a good number of hits before going down. With his greater skill, strength, and See-Through World, he could potentially land blows where they really hurt, disrupting Jonathan’s breathing or kill him outright. However, the nature of Jonathan’s Hamon techniques are a great danger to Tanjiro, and his massive speed advantage means he has plenty of opportunities to capitalize on their disabling effects and get plenty of hits in. At the end of the day, Tanjiro can’t really hope to compete against a foe who can potentially stop his heart or knock him out from a mere clash of their swords, especially when that opponent blitzes him outright. It looks like Jonathan Joestar took the victory in this breathtaking bout of the Bizarre Slayers.

Phantom Falcon

Just gonna start off by saying you need to watch Higurashi if you haven’t. Legit one of the best anime I’ve ever seen. The remake is coming out soon too, so also watch that when it comes out. Also stan Rena

So, Tanjiro vs Jonathan. Certainly a very interesting matchup, and one that’s pretty damn thematic all things considered. It was a pretty fun and interesting debate all things considered, and I was pleasantly surprised by how close it was. Let’s dive into this

Starting out with Tanjiro, he’s pretty solidly in the city block level of power via scaling to a weakened Doma, who created a ice sculpture, which is equivalent to 70 tons of TNT. Tanjiro reasonably would upscale from this due to fighting people like Muzan, who’s stronger than Doma. Jonathan on the other hand, even his dead body could survive the boat explosion at the end of Part 1, which has gotten around 64 tons of TNT, also city block level. So, both are virtually even in power and durability, though a slight edge is given to Tanjiro

Speed...isn’t close at all, being blunt. There’s lightning timing in Demon Slayer, with one performed by Zenitsu to get over Mach 1800, which is MHS+. Pretty damn solid on its own right, but nowhere near the level of speed JoJo gets. Joseph dodging light beams from the Red Stone gets 2c, Kars reacting to a UV beam gets 40c, Polpol reacting to rays from The Sun stand gets 76c, and the famous Hanged Man feats gets 365c. Safe to say light timing in JoJo is pretty consistent. Now, some may argue that Jonathan doesn’t scale to these feats, but I disagree. Jonathan shouldn’t be massively slower than Joseph, and it’s worth noting that in Part 3, Dio was explicitly stated to not be as powerful as he was in Part 1, yet he was capable of reacting to stand attacks, particularly those from Star Platinum, who’s comparable to Silver Chariot, who, as I mentioned, is 365 times the speed of light. Jonathan was capable of reacting to and keeping up with Part 1 Dio, so you can argue he scales to the MFTL stuff. Reasonably speaking, Jonathan should have an utterly massive speed advantage over Tanjiro.

Hamon is also incredibly useful for Jonathan here. He can manipulate blood, stop heartbeats, heal wounds, etc, with some of these abilities giving him the tools to kind of fuck over Tanjiro’s breathing techniques. But on the other hand, Tanjiro could figure out how Hamon works with his See Through World move, giving him a visual view of how it flows through Jonathan’s body, and he can likely find a way to strike it in a particularly vital point, but...well, the speed gap is simply to massive to make that likely, and it gives Jonathan dozens of opportunities to screw Tanjiro over. Tanjiro may be more versatile overall, but this is essentially quality over quantity, where Jonathan’s Hamon is more reliable and deadly in this fight.

Honestly, if speed was roughly comparable, I’d give this to Tanjiro via experience, somewhat greater strength, and being more versatile, but the massive speed advantage just kind of makes this a clear cut debate. Overall, Jonathan’s speed, healing, abilities, and better hand to hand skill give him the victory with moderate difficulty.

Something something Jonathan slew Tanjiro haha funne

Hello, everyone! It’s an absolute honor being here writing my first ever blog for the G1 Death Battle Fan Blogs! I hope to collaborate more here and write out predictions here! I was hoping I could join in the previous one (Mewtwo vs. Zero) so I could participate in a debate involving my boy Zero! But oh, well… Here we are.

Without a further ado… Let’s dive into my verdict for this MU of… Tanjiro Kamado vs. Jonathan Joestar…

Tackling the Stat Trinity in the most straightforward way possible, the two are pretty comparable in AP with a sliiight advantage going to Tanjiro (unless you go by the 321 Tons of TNT end of the freezing feat, of course. Which then Tanjiro has a comfortable 5x AP lead over Jonathan’s 64 tons of TNT ship explosion that he scales to). Pretty good stuff for him! And Jonathan’s durability feat would scale to AP for obvious reasons (Jonathan can hurt Dio, Dio can hurt Jonathan, both withstood the same blast, you know). So yeah. The Demon Slayer is already off to a good start taking ⅔ of the stat trinity!

Now for speed… their most impressive feat for both combatants… let’s stack them up against each other...The Demon Slayer’s most impressive speed feat (involving ‘lightning timing’) that he scales to clocks at about Mach 1838. Massively Hypersonic+. Neat. It should be noted that this is with the Mach 1292 Lightning, and not the value DEATH BATTLE uses of Mach 285. But anywho… Tanjiro’s lightning timing vs… Jonathan’s light timing of 2.3c scaled from his grandson, Joseph Joestar (Part 3 DIO shenanigans is why he scales to this feat, which dooooooes also give room for argument for Jonathan scaling to even more impressive feats like Silver Chariot’s MFTL feat with Hanged Man clocking at about 365c).

… Yeah, no. Jonathan has speed in the bag with a whopping speed advantage of at worst 109,358x to at best 17,355,821x. And this speed advantage has turned the scales in favor of Jonathan, especially when Tanjiro’s AP lead isn’t one-shot worthy!

But matches like these are of course not only down to stats. We also have to look at their abilities and hax. Let’s stack them up against each other and see how they correlate…

Jonathan himself isn’t all that versatile, with his only notable ability being Hamon, which… Is a surprisingly very useful ability. With this, he can of course negate durability to a limited extent by manipulating the blood of their opponents, manipulating their bodies, put them to sleep, stop their heart, etc. Whiiiich is extremely handy for making life harder for Tanjiro by crippling him of his Breathing Techniques. He can also use it to heal himself of some pretty nasty wounds that could be lethal to anyone else, something that Tanjiro can’t really do reliably with his own Breathing Techniques. The only big problem here that I see for the original JoJo is that he isn’t that experienced using Hamon, so there is that possibility that he might not make the best of Hamon itself, especially when he had the help of Luck. Hmm… This is sounding a little troublesome for Jonathan...

Tanjiro on the other hand certainly has a pretty nice edge over Jonathan when it comes to versatility, with the many skills he has access to with his 3 Breathing Styles: Water Breathing, Thunder Breathing and Sun Breathing. He also has the ability to augment and increase his stats as a whole. But his most vital skill of them all, See-Through World, is by far the most threatening in his arsenal. With it, he can not only be unable to be perceived by intent or battle spirit, but also predict the opponent’s moves by examining the contractions of the muscles, the blood vessels and any other features of the opponent’s body. And considering that within Jonathan’s body there’s activity of this sort going on when using Hamon, he could very likely try to understand how it works and even find workarounds to exploit the weakness, seeing as Jonathan suffers from the same weakness as himself when using his Hamon. And the possibility that he finds a way to work around Hamon before Jonathan properly uses it to its full potential exists, especially when the Demon Slayer has a good load of experience and training using his Breathing Techniques from training and killing demons for 2 years. More so than Jonathan with his Hamon.

With all this said, who do I believe wins? In my honest opinion, if this was a speed equalized match, or if the speed gap was slightly bordering into blitzing territory, I might’ve sided with Tanjiro via better experience, superior AP & suitable techniques. But this is not the case with the speed gap being of many orders of magnitude against the Demon Slayer. Ultimately, Jonathan Joestar wins in a clear cut speedblitz. His massive speed advantage pretty much lets Jonathan disrupt Tanjiro’s Breathing with his Hamon a lot more often than not, and the speed advantage is so large to the point where I don’t see Jonathan’s own lack of experience hindering him too badly here.

In the end, Tanjiro will take his last breath in this bizarre battle of slayers!

So here we are with a clash that could take your breath away. Tanjiro Kamado vs Jonathan Joestar. It's also the only fight I have a stake in during this break interval (until Beerus hopefully fights Hades. Please, not Phoenix, please just Hades.). So let's get right into it.

In regards to stats, it's extremely close. In the strength and durability department, Tanjiro just barely clinches the edge with the 70 ton ice sculpture feat vs Jonathan's 64 ton boat explosion. Now one could say Tanjiro should be even stronger, since the feat was performed while Doma was weakened, but you've also got to take into account that Dio was just a head when he took the boat explosion straight on. So this is honestly not too much of a difference to put either vastly above the other.

Next we have speed, which has been the topic of some debate. There's been a lot of talk of scaling these two to other greater feats, being lightning and light timing. Now there may be some problems with both given the circumstances. Scaling Jonathan to Joseph and even Dio may be a bit iffy, since they were both active for a longer period of time after Jonathan's death. Meanwhile for Tanjiro, he supposedly scales to lightning, which in all honesty appears to just be an elemental attack people have deemed that fast, not natural lightning. Along with the lightning value being a bit inflated in the calc we use if you ask me. Both do have concrete hyperonic feats to judge though, which just so happen to be the same kind of feat. Jonathan was able to stop Dio from attacking Will Zeppeli, and Tanjiro intercepted and blitzed a demon. Coming out to mach 38 and mach 12 respectively. So either way, no matter how generous you are, Jonathan comes out on top in both cases. Giving the speed edge to Mr. Joestar.

On to experience and skill, it's pretty straight forward. Tanjiro trained for two years compared to Jojo's crash course, and has faced a wider variety of demons, including the strongest whoever lived. Point Tanjiro.

Now the interesting part, and the one I think most informs this match, abilities. Tanjiro and Jonathan are on opposite sides of the ability spectrum as I will illustrate. Tanjiro has a massive amount of abilities, with varying uses and elements to take advantage of. Way more than Jonathan has in any case. Meanwhile the few abilities Jonathan has kind of blow Tanjiro's out of the water. It's a matter of quantity vs quality. Sure, Tanjiro has more methods to directly attack Jonathan, but Jonathan has more ways that could immediately take Tanjiro out of the fight if he were to hit them. He could mess with his blood flow even within his body, put him to sleep, control his body, and even just outright stop his heart. Jonathan definitely takes the advantage here.

So overall, in a rather close fight, I have to give it to Jonathan. Sure Tanjiro has strength and experience edge, but Jonathan's Hamon is just way more useful than anything Tanjiro has, and Jonathan has the speed to utilize it. Tanjiro will be seeing Joe-stars when Jonathan is done with him.
