Whether they want to admit it or not, every group of well-meaning heroes and adventurers needs to have that one member who is willing to cross moral lines their allies dare not; even if their goals saw them tread dangerously close to the path of villainy, they would dive in and embrace it wholeheartedly if it meant attaining whatever it is they seek. Shonen Jump helped popularize this character archetype with the next two combatants in this season - a pair of young, forlorn anti-heroes whose cursed lineages, trusted blades, literal all-seeing eyes and ability to fan the flames sparked from darkness have made them dead ringers for one another.
Sasuke Uchiha, the shadowy Sharingan-wielding ninja from Naruto. Hiei, Yu Yu Hakusho’s cursed Master of the Jagan. The darkness born from their tragic upbringings has led to them becoming two of the most dominant forces of nature in their respective universes, with victories over anyone who dared stand in their way - friend and foe alike. While they may serve righteous causes as a hero, they shall spare no mercy in a duel to the death, especially against each other for the next Death Battle. With Team 7 and Team Urameshi’s resident edgelords in action within a matter of days, whose personal brand of twisted justice will win out in the end?
Background
Sasuke
The prestigious Uchiha Clan was one of the founding shinobi clans of the Hidden Leaf Village. Known for possessing the Sharingan blood limit, the Uchiha Clan were one of Konoha’s strongest clans rivaled only by the Senju Clan. On July 23rd, Sasuke was born as the second son of the clan’s head Fugaku Uchiha.
Born a prodigy, Sasuke looked up to his older brother Itachi, always wanting to spend time with him, especially for training though to no avail. Unknown to young Sasuke though, something secretive was happening within the Uchiha Clan. Sasuke’s father had been planning a coup d'etat. Unfortunately, Itachi - and ANBU - was fiercely loyal to the village and took on a secret mission from the Third Hokage - Assassinate the Uchiha clan.
Sasuke returns home to find every member of his clan dead, parents included. Standing above their corpses was the culprit, his older brother Itachi. Fortunately for young Sasuke, his older brother spared him out of brotherly love and implanted the seeds of revenge in Sasuke for him to awaken the Mangekyo and to grow strong, thus branding Sasuke with the Uchiha’s “curse” of hatred.
From that day forth, Sasuke became a cold, distant person whose only goal is to kill the man who massacred his clan. Despite becoming a member of Team 7 with Naruto Uzumaki and Sakura Haruno, Sasuke didn’t like how things were progressing as his desire for revenge still remained strong. And so, Sasuke turned to the renowned criminal and Sanin Orochimaru to gain the power he sought, despite Naruto’s best efforts to get him to stay.
After his departure, Sasuke proceeds on a wayward journey. Training under Orochimaru before killing him at his weakest point, forming Team Taka, ‘defeating” his older brother and learning the truth, attempting to join the akatsuki, helping fend off Madara and Kaguya and finally trying to defeat Naruto so he could realize his own vision of a Hokage. The final battle ended in a draw, robbing Naruto and Sasuke of one arm each, but restoring their bond and bringing Sasuke back to the light.
Naruto and Kakashi managed to have Sasuke pardoned for his numerous crimes, though he takes it upon himself to venture around the world, protecting Konoha from all evils across all different planes as his lifelong atonement. He ultimately lightens up from his cold and distant demeanor, weds Sakura and has a daughter by the name of Sarada Uchiha, and becomes a mentor to Naruto’s son, Boruto.
Hiei
Hiei is a male fire demon born to an Ice Maiden, an all-female race. Hiei was born male because his mother “interacted” with a male fire demon outside her isolationist Koorime community. Due to his demonic heritage, Hiei was cast out of the village as an infant and thrown off of the island he was born. Somehow, despite being an infant, Hiei remembered these events, and would spend part of his life searching for the village to extract his revenge.
After surviving the fall, Hiei was found and raised by a gang of bandits, who would soon reject him as time went on. In his later years, Hiei would grow desperate in finding his home village and sought out to find Shigure, the demon surgeon. Shigure gave Hiei a surgically-implanted third eye called the Jagan Eye, which he used to locate his village.
Hiei eventually found the village, but after learning his mother committed suicide for the supposed loss of her son, Hiei spared the village, seeing as they were all already dead inside. Before leaving, Hiei learned that he had a twin sister named Yukina, who had left the ice village for reasons unknown. And after swearing an oath to Shigure to never tell Yukina of his true identity, traveled the Demon World and Human World to find his sister and watch over her.
Equipment
Sasuke
Kusanagi Sword
Sasuke’s weapon of choice throughout all of Shippuden before eventually getting a newer version of it in Boruto’s Era. This sword is not the same as Orochimaru’s of the same name, as it differs in appearance and lacks the ability to extend and cut through most objects. However, Sasuke can channel his chakra through the sword, which he uses to vibrate it at high speed for more cutting power. He can also channel his Lightning Jutsu through it in a variety of ways, giving him more range, power, speed and attacks one normally wouldn’t be able to do with a sword. Other than that, the sword isn’t that notable outside of its impressive durability.
Kunai
One of the most basic and common ninja tools in the series. It's designed for thrusting and stabbing at enemies but can be thrown as well, allowing them to act as a fairly versatile weapon.
Shuriken
Basic, four-pronged throwing stars used by virtually every ninja in the world. They can be used to inflict damage, pin down opponents, cancel out other projectiles of similar strength, and if used well enough, kill.
Fuma Shuriken
A big-ass shuriken made up of four single-edged blades. It can be folded up for easy transportation, and when opened, can be thrown at high speeds to inflict serious damage.
Wires
Sasuke carries with him numerous razor sharp wires that he attaches to his shuriken and kunai for combat. He’ll tend to do things like throwing multiple kunai with strings attached and having them ensnare his foe or create a web of wires around them. Sasuke has also demonstrated the ability to shoot some of his Fire and Lightning Jutsu along the wires.
Smoke Bombs
Another basic ninja tool. When thrown, it releases a large cloud of smoke blocking the enemy's vision, allowing the user to launch a sneak attack or make a get away.
Hiei
Katana
This 2ft curved blade is the main weapon that Hiei uses throughout the series. It’s strong enough to slice through and redirect energy, though it can be broken by strong enough opponents.
Abilities
Sasuke
Chakra
Chakra is the physical and spiritual energy located on every cell of the body and gained through exercise and experience. It's basically a cross between chi and stamina as the two are directly linked. Though other methods exist, Hand Seals are the main way to channel Chakra through 361 different points over the body so it can be manipulated to perform a variety of acts like walking on water, ceilings or sheer cliffs, creating elemental attacks, creating illusions etc.
While anything capable of using chakra can use non-elemental chakra, they also have an affinity to a certain element that lets them give elemental properties to their techniques boosting their power and efficiency. Sasuke himself utilizes Fire natured chakra like most Uchihas as well as Lightning Natured chakra. If Sasuke’s Fire Jutsu is stronger than Wind based techniques, it can potentially cancel them out but can potentially get canceled out if the wind attack is stronger. Additionally, Fire Jutsu is weaker than, surprise surprise, Water based attacks. However, If his Fire Jutsu is stronger, it can resist being canceled out or overpowered by Water attacks. Sasuke’s Lightning Jutsu works under the same principles, except it’s weak to Wind attacks and Strong against Earth.l
Also, even though weaving hand signs in order to cast certain jutsu ordinarily requires using both hands, Sasuke taught himself to do it with one. He can also grab hold of someone’s hand during combat and forcibly use their hand to make the other hand sign which assists his jutsu casting.

Six Paths Chakra
A rare and powerful type of Chakra given to Sasuke by Hagoromo, the Sage of Six Paths, due to his being a reincarnation of his son, Indra. By simply having Six Paths Chakra, all of Sasuke’s chakra based abilities are boosted exponentially beyond what they normally would be. Sasuke can also directly amplify the power of his Jutsu with this Chakra which usually results in some form of visible change alongside the power increase.
It should be noted that after sealing Kagura, the mark on Sasuke’s hand denoting the power given to him disappeared and went back to Hagoromo. However, Sasuke retained his Rinnegan and the ability to use Six Paths enhanced versions of his Jutsu (all of which we’ll be covering shortly) implying that he still has access to some of it.
Ninjutsu
Chakra Nature/Elemental Ninjutsu
In the Ninja World, shinobi are capable of controlling the elements and performed ninja techniques based off of them. This is known as nature transformation, which is an advanced form of chakra control that involves molding and refining the nature of a shinobi’s chakra, altering its properties characteristics to be used in ninjutsu. It’s a necessary component when it comes to creating and modifying a technique, with the other component being shape transformation. Nature transformation changes the properties of chakra, and shape transformation changes the actual form and movement which alters its abilities. There are five basic chakra natures that shinobi are born with: Fire, Wind, Lightning, Earth, and Water. Just like a game of Rock-Paper-Scissors or Pokemon, each chakra nature has an advantage over the other. Fire beats Wind. Wind beats Lightning. Lightning beats Earth. Earth beats Water. Water beats Fire.
There are two final nature transformations that are the source of all non-elemental techniques: Yin & Yang. Yin is based on the imagination and spiritual energy of a shinobi while Yang is based on the vitality and physical energy of a shinobi. These two together can form the Yin-Yang nature. The transformation of these two natures involves altering the balance between spiritual and physical nature in chakra.
Fire Release
Fire Release is Sasuke’s speciality, it is the most offense based out of the five different elemental chakras. It is most used by the ninjas of Konohagakure and Sasuke’s family - the Uchiha’s were masters of the Fire Release technique. As such Sasuke has used plenty of fire based techniques throughout the series.
Fire Techniques
- Fire Release: Great Fireball Jutsu: Sasuke shoots a massive ball or stream of fire from his mouth. That’s pretty much it. Oh, he can also shoot off a bunch of these at once. Their size and power leaves a smoldering crater on impact.
- Fire Release: Fireball Jutsu - The exact same thing but smaller and weaker.
- Fire Release: Great Flame Flower - Sasuke launches three flame projectiles which rain down like meteors, erupting into a powerful rising burst of flame upon impact.
- Fire Release: Phoenix Sage Fire Jutsu: Sasuke launches a large volley of small fireballs in unpredictable directions and controls their flight path with chakra. Shuriken - which may also be controlled with chakra, can be hidden inside these flames for an additional nasty surprise. This technique is primarily used as a distraction.
- Fire Release: Dragon Fire Jutsu: This is the Jutsu Sasuke uses to run fire along his wires. The flames can be a small stream or a large roaring burst that are hot enough to melt skin and rock. If Sasuke doesn’t have or want to use his wires, he has the option of using a line of people as the track for the fire. Cause y’know. Why not?
- Fire Release: Great Dragon Fire Technique: An extremely powerful attack known for its high power and heat. Sasuke shoots a huge dragon head shaped fireball at an opponent that’s so hot it creates updrafts and is known to completely incinerate targets. Of course, it all requires a good bit of chakra to use thanks to its high power.
Lighting Release
Lighting Release is one of the five elemental chakras and the second one that Sasuke commonly uses while in battle. In order to use lighting, Shinboi must convert their Chakra into electricity. Most ninjas use Lighting Release with tools such as Swords and kunai to amplify it’s cutting force though skilled ninjas such as Sasuke and Kakashi Hakata are able to use raw lighting nature chakra in order to create one of the most powerful lighting type attacks:
Chidori
A powerful Lightning Jutsu that requires high speed and no hand signs to use. For this Jutsu, Sasuke cloaks his hand in raw lightning nature chakra that’s so intense it becomes visible and produces a sound akin to birds chirping. The technique is used by impaling or slashing at the opponent with the chidori to inflict high damage.
When amplified with Six Paths Chakra (as well as certain other things), Chidori changes from blue and white to black as well as becomes larger and much more erratic and fierce.
- Chidori Current - Sasuke releases the Chidori from his body in every direction, creating a dome-shaped technique that doubles as a powerful attack and shield. The electricity makes foes’ muscles contract, paralyzing them while also inflicting significant damage. This jutsu can also be channeled through the ground for greater range.
- Chidori Senbon - Sasuke forms the Chidori into Senbon (needles with points at both ends) and throws them at the enemy. He can create dozens-thousands easily depending on the amount of chakra he uses. This Jutsu also expands on the chidori’s sheer speed even further, making it much faster while also having extremely high accuracy and piercing power which can be used to hit vital points easily.
- Chidori Sharp Spear - Sasuke shapes the Chidori into a long, thing blade with a maximum range of 5 metres. It’s ideal for impaling foes and can be used to pin them to the floor and walls or be swung like a sword for combat, making it an ideal close/mid-range weapon. Sasuke can also make the spear “burst” inside a pierced target which results in multiple spears shooting out from all directions from within the victim’s body. This technique can be infused with Six Path’s power for a massive damage boost.
- Sword of Kusanagi: Chidori Katana - Sasuke channels Chidori Current through his sword to vastly increase its power and can extend its range by making the electricity extend past the blade. It can also be applied to his shuriken and kunai.
Kirin
This Jutsu is actually another variant of Chidori, but it’s so drastically different that we’ll cover it as its own thing.
Kirin is an extremely powerful Lightning Release technique where Sasuke basically hijacks a lightning bolt, turns it into a big, scary, dragon-giraffe, kaiju thing and drops it on someone. Yes, you did in fact read that right. In all seriousness though, Sasuke utilizes a source of natural lightning (such as a storm) and forces all of the lightning in it together. If he can’t find a storm, he can make one by launching his fire Jutsu into the sky, creating stronger storm conditions. Since Sasuke is using literal lightning for this technique, not only does it require almost no chakra on his part to use (it merely requires him to shape and control it) but it’s just as fast as an actual bolt of lightning. The downside to this technique is that once it’s used, the thunder clouds are dispersed pretty much instantly, meaning it’s a one time use thing unless he chooses to manually create more storm clouds.

Clone Techniques
Clone Jutsu
Not to be confused with the Shadow Clone Jutsu or any other variants, the Clone Jutsu is the base technique. For this Jutsu, Sasuke creates a very small number of copies of himself in order to confuse foes. The clones created with this Jutsu are unable to attack however, as they have no mass and they are easily identifiable by the fact that they have no shadows.
Shadow Clone Jutsu
A more advanced variant of the Clone Jutsu. The clones created by this Jutsu are actually solid entities as opposed to the basic illusions created via the Clone Jutsu. Because of this, they have shadows and are able to actually attack and interact with things. The clones are also linked with Sasuke and any knowledge or experience they gain will be transferred to Sasuke upon being destroyed or disappearing. This means Sasuke could do things like send a clone to spy on someone in a treacherous area halfway across the planet, have the clone disperse itself at that location and Sasuke would automatically have knowledge of whatever the clone learned, no matter where he is.
Sasuke has shown to be able to very casually create eight clones, although with his prodigious chakra manipulation, high skill level in ninjutsu and sheer amount of chakra, he should be able to create a lot more than just eight.
Substitution Jutsu
Also known as the Body Replacement Technique, the Substitution Jutsu is a common technique a shinobi uses before they’re hit by an opponent’s attack. The jutsu allows the user to switch themselves with a nearby object (usually a block of wood or straw dummy) or clone, but not other living entities. It’s an optical illusion that tricks the opponent into thinking they actually hit their target when in reality they hit the substitute instead. This technique gives the user a chance to either stage a counterattack or escape.
Body Flicker Jutsu
A very basic ninjutsu. The user supercharges every cell in their body with chakra allowing them to move at insane speeds to the point that even low-level ninja can escape faster, more experienced ninja. It should also be noted that the user may occasionally use smoke bombs at the start of the technique to mask their movements.
Summoning Jutsu
A technique whereby the user calls forth ninja tools/objects, people and clones or use a blood sacrifice to summon a creature they have contracted with from across space-time and other dimensions.
Summoning: Hawk
At some point during his training with Orochimaru, Sasuke forged a Summoning contract with a few hawks. Neither of them are used for combat, but they still have their uses. The first summon is a huge hawk by the name of Garuda, whom is large enough for Sasuke to ride on for travel purposes. The second is a normal-sized hawk used for sending written messages like a glorified carrier pigeon.
Summoning: Snake
Under Orochimaru’s guidance, Sasuke unsurprisingly acquired several snake summons.
- Hidden Shadow Snake Hands - The user summons a few snakes from their sleeve that all lunge forward to attack or constrict an enemy. The snakes are not only venomous, but carry kusanagi blades in their mouths. Also, despite being called snake “hands” they can be summoned from other places on the body like the mouth or the back.
- Binding Snake Glare Spell - Sasuke summons one or two white snakes that are far larger, smarter and stronger than the ones summoned via Hidden Shadow Snake Hands. This technique is mainly used for capturing foes and can restrain and/or crush far more powerful opponents than the aforementioned jutsu. These snakes also possess a very potent venom which, like all of their other attributes, is superior to the venom produced by the Hidden Shadow Snakes.
- Aoda - Aoda is a large, blue snake summon that rivals Manda in both size and strength and serves as Sasuke’s personal summon. Aoda is an extremely loyal but “simple” snake who does Sasuke’s bidding without question or hesitation. Aoda, like many snakes, has infrared sensors in his snout and has enough speed and agility to outmaneuver the Ten-Tails’ Fission Technique and can brute force his way through powerful Advanced Jutsu like Nowaki’s Typhoon Release.
Summoning: Lightning Flash Blade Creation
A ninja tool summon where Sasuke can call forth shuriken and other weapons sealed away into special tags hidden in his clothes and on his body by waving his hand over the sealing mark. This allows Sasuke to carry far more weapons than he could with just his pouch. The summoned weaponry appears instantly and Sasuke has his tags set up so he can summon them while in his actual throwing stance, allowing him to throw shuriken much faster than he could normally.
Genjutsu
A genjutsu is a technique in which a shinobi controls the chakra flow of their target’s cerebral nervous system, affecting their five senses as a result. This is frequently used to create false images and/or trick the body into believing it has experienced physical pain. Genjutsu affects activity throughout the prosencephalon structure of the brain, meaning all species of mammals are therefore affected by genjutsu.
Genjutsu can also be used to manipulate others in a similar manner to brainwashing via feeding the victims illusory suggestions. Those under a genjutsu’s influence will either appear unconscious or continue to move under the pretence of the genjutsu. Sasuke is very proficient in casting genjutsu with his Sharingan.
Taijutsu
Taijutsu is a basic form of techniques, referring to any technique that involves the martial arts or the optimisation of natural human abilities. Taijutsu is executed by directly accessing the user’s physical and mental energies, relying on the stamina and strength gained through training. While it typically doesn’t require chakra, taijutsu can have its techniques enhanced by chakra. Taijutsu requires no hand seals to perform, occasionally making use of certain stances or poses and are far quicker to use than ninjutsu or genjutsu. In simpler terms, taijutsu is just hand-to-hand combat.
Peregrine Falcon Drop
Sasuke grabs a falling opponent by their waist and wraps his legs around their chest and plummets with them into the ground at high speed so that they land on their head. In the games, Sasuke can also initiate this technique by leaping into the air while simultaneously kneeing his foe into the air and then grappling onto them.
Strong Fist
This isn’t a technique per say, but an entire fighting style used only by true bastions of youth, passion and complete lack of ninjutsu capability bowlcuts. The Strong Fist Style focuses heavily on dominating opponents with extremely powerful and stupidly fast hand-to-hand combat that requires a huge amount of power, speed, durability and technique to perform.
However, Sasuke doesn’t actually practice this fighting style. With his Sharingan’s abilities (which we’ll get to eventually) Sasuke copied Rock Lee’s abilities in this style. However, since Sasuke had nowhere near the amount of physical prowess that Lee had, he used modified versions of the Strong Fist Techniques that exhibited the same principles of being fast and powerful techniques for dominating an opponent up close. The following Taijutsu techniques will be examples of this.

Shadow of the Dancing Leaf
Sasuke rushes at the opponent at high speed from head on. He quickly drops from his sprint into a slide and aims a powerful kick up at the opponent’s chest or chin, launching them high up into the air and pursuing them with a jump. At this point, Sasuke appears behind the airborne opponent, mimicking the positioning of their body as if he was the shadow of a falling leaf, hence the name. At this point, he is free to follow up this move with any action he wants.
Lion’s Barrage
Sasuke uses Shadow of the Dancing Leaf and then strikes the opponent in mid-air, taking advantage of their counterattack to get in more hits and finally ending it with a powerful heel kick to the abdomen that blasts his opponent to the ground. It should be noted that every hit that Sasuke lands increases the velocity of the fall, the foe will take even greater damage upon hitting the ground.
- Lion’s Barrage: Chidori - While not officially named, Sasuke has a variant of the Lion’s Barrage where instead of ending the air combo with the kick, he instead knocks them to the ground with a Chidori.
Forced Assisted Hand Sign Weaving
This isn’t an actual technique or anything, but Sasuke has demonstrated the ability to grab a foe’s hand during close-quarters-combat and use it to form hand signs to compensate for his only having one arm and being unable to properly weave hand signs.
Bukijutsu & Kenjutsu
Weapon based techniques with Bukijutsu being shuriken based and Kenjutsu being swordplay.
Afterglow
Sasuke rushes his opponent and performs a quick slash with his sword.
Moonlight
Sasuke strikes with his sword then stabs it into the ground. He then balances on the handle of his sword and performs a powerful kick aimed at an opponent’s head or chest to knock them away.
Shadow Shuriken Jutsu
Sasuke stacks two shuriken on top of each other and tosses them at the opponent. The trick in this technique is to make the enemy focus on the upper shuriken whilst the one below it remains hidden. At this point, when the enemy is dealing with the upper shuriken the lower one catches them off guard. This can be performed with normal or fuma shuriken.
Manipulated Shuriken Technique
Sasuke attaches a wire to two massive shuriken and throws them at his opponent, using the wire to guide them. He has been known to shoot Fire Jutsu down his strings or wrap the edge of the shuriken in electricity to turn them into electric buzzsaws. This technique can also be used as a grappling hook.
- Manipulating Windmill Triple Blades - Sasuke throws out a ton of shuriken and kunai at an opponent - all acting as decoys. He then throws out a shuriken with wires attached and has it wrap around a tree or pole so it can wrap back around to hit the dodging target, all while reading their movements with his Sharingan.
Dojutsu
Dojutsu are techniques made usable and casted by special types of eyes, which is why they’re also known as ocular jutsu.
Sharingan
The Sharingan is the signature ability of the Uchiha clan. Awakened by severe mental trauma, it dyes a Uchiha’s vision red and grants them a wide array of ocular based abilities, including viewing microscopic entities in one’s own bloodstream, things underground thanks to their chakra, and predicting and copying the movements of foes and objects via watching their muscle movements.
Genjutsu: Sharingan
This actually refers to a broad range of abilities available to Sharingan users via its illusory abilities rather than a single technique.
- Coercion Sharingan - With a mere glance, Sasuke is able to cast a hellish genjutsu on the target. The genjutsu is potent enough that it can make both strong willed and extremely emotionally dull people fall to their knees in submission.
Demonic Illusion: Mirage Crow
Sasuke can trap his foe in a powerful Genjutsu with no eye contact required via this technique, (however, eye contact can still be used to cast it). When inflicted, the victim experiences an illusion of a whirlwind of crows being launched at them as they are left completely at the user’s mercy after being hit if they are unable to free themselves.
Demonic Illusion: Shackling Stakes Technique
After being caught by Genjutsu: Sharingan, the user can then trap the victim in an illusory world. When this happens, the victim is then tormented by having their body impaled by many giant, rusted, metal stakes. This both takes away their freedom and gives them the actual pain and sensation of the stakes being driven through their body, but without the physical damage, making this an ideal torture technique. This technique can also be cast without eye contact depending on the user’s skill with Genjutsu.
Mangekyo Sharingan
The Mangekyo Sharingan is an advanced form of the Sharingan. It’s initially awakened by the trauma suffered from witnessing the death of someone close to the user. The Mangekyo Sharingan retains all of the Sharingan’s generic abilities while also gaining new powerful ones as well. These new abilities differ between each eye but can be similar in nature. These new abilities include Susano’o, Amaterasu, Kamui, Tsukuyomi, Kotoamatsukami, and Tengai Shinsei.
However, using the Mangekyo Sharingan’s abilities can cause a great strain on the user. It drains a considerable amount of chakra when simply activating and maintaining it, even more through each technique used. Even more, it can cause considerable damage to their being, leaving the body in agonising pain and causing deterioration to their vision. Eventually, overusing the Mangekyo Sharingan will leave the user permanently blind.
Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan
The Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan is the advanced form of the Mangekyo Sharingan. In order to avoid permanent blindness from overusing the Mangekyo Sharingan, a member of the Uchiha Clan must transplant the Mangekyo Sharingan of another Uchiha with strong blood ties (usually a sibling) into them. This restores the user’s vision and awakens the Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan. Despite the eyes merging the designs of the two Uchiha’s Mangekyo Sharingan, the new pair are still the eyes of the previous owner and thus react to certain techniques that are aimed at the original owner’s Mangekyo Sharingan. Additionally, they no longer suffer any negative side effects from using them, even reducing chakra-draining to an unnoticeably minimal level
Susano’o
Susano’o is a large chakra construct that looks like a Tengu and surrounds the user that acts as a powerful defence while also fighting on their behalf so it’s basically a really big fucking Stand. Known as the strongest ability available to those with a Mangekyo Sharingan, the Susano’o has three states it can be summoned in. The first and weakest is a mere skeletal form. The second is more powerful and gains flesh but lacks skin. And lastly, there’s the Complete Body Susano’o. Complete Body Susano’o is exactly what it sounds like: skeleton, flesh, skin and additional wings like a KFC $19.99 special + clothing/armor and weapons. It should be noted however that Susano’o can still be summoned in its lower states as well as partially summoned, only bringing in a limb or single rib etc.
Susano’o has other uses in that it can create hand signs of its own in Sasuke’s place so that he can perform jutsu. Additionally, Sasuke can leave its being, leaving it to attack on its own while Sasuke acts independently. All forms of Susano’o have access to a non-descript blade, with the Humanoid Form having a Nodachi as well as a shield on it’s wrist that doubles as a bow: its primary weapon. The Complete Form uses two katanas for melee combat whilst the shield bow thing remains its strongest and primary weapon.

Naturally, Susano’o does have some weaknesses. Susano’o cannot protect Sasuke from attacks formed inside of it. It is also unable to protect against visual and sound-based attacks. On top of this, it requires a fair bit of chakra to use. Nothing that will drain Sasuke after a few uses or extended use or anything, but it’s still notable.
- Susano’o: Fist - Sasuke summons one of Susano’o’s arms in a skeletal state to punch shit. Or to use it for typical arm things. Really big arm things. Speaking of arm things, Sasuke can use this technique to make a miniature version of Susano’o’s arm on his arm stub to make up for the fact that he only has one arm. He can do the standard arm shit like jutsu, hand signs and masturbation.
- Susano’o: Crush - Susano’o grabs an opponent and crushes them. Who would’ve guessed.
- Susano’o: Captive Slash - Susano’o’s grabs a mofo and holds them in front of Sasuke, who then slashes the victim with his Kusanagi Sword.
- Susano’o: Great Fireball Technique - Literally Great Fireball Jutsu but performed by Susano’o.
- Susano’o: Chidori - Just like above but with Chidori.
- Susano’o: Yasaka Magatama - Susano’o is able to conjure magatama shaped projectiles from its hands to fire at opponents. These projectiles are powerful and create explosions on impact, although the user can seemingly adjust the size of the blast utilizing smaller explosions in smaller spaces.
Amaterasu
Sasuke can create powerful black flames on whatever is the focal point of his vision, which makes amaterasu nearly impossible to avoid if you can’t escape his line of sight. Amaterasu can remain burning for seven days and nights straight and normal methods such as water or intense wind won’t be enough to extinguish them. Amaterasu is also capable of burning nearly anything, even other flames.
This technique generally puts a good deal of strain on its users but it can be used repeatedly nonetheless. Sasuke has also shown the ability to absorb the flames back into his eye in order to prevent targets from burning to death, though this is extremely strenuous and causes his eye to start bleeding.

Interestingly enough, Sasuke has shown the ability to use Amaterasu with his basic Sharingan despite it being a Mangekyou ability.
- Blaze Release: Honoikazuchi - Sasuke creates a bunch of spikes all around him out of Amaterasu’s flames, impaling anything that gets close, and burning them at the same time.
- Amaterasu: Flame Wrapping Fire - Sasuke encases himself within Susanoo’s ribcage, and then coats the entire thing in Amaterasu’s flames. This creates a superb defence that utilizes Susanoo’s impressive durability whilst deterring foes from getting too close or making physical contact.
- Blaze Release: Susanoo Kagutsuchi - Sasuke creates an orb of black flames that can be molded into several different weapons. The first of which is a large sword made of black flames that’s wielded by Susanoo for melee combat. The second of which allows Sasuke to form giant arrows made of black flames to be fired from Susanoo’s bow.
- Blaze Release: Yasaka Magatama - This is an attack where Sasuke utilizes the orb of black flames to launch a huge flurry of magatama-shaped projectiles that knock back and incinerate foes.
Rinnegan
The Rinnegan is the natural progression of the sharingan, awakened when someone with a form of the sharingan is granted or exposed to Six Paths Chakra. Sasuke has completely mastered his Rinnegan and as such, can use all of its abilities as everyone with the Rinnegan has access to the same powers. Sasuke can activate or deactivate it at will (although he couldn’t do so initially) and when at full power, Sasuke’s Rinnegan gains six tomoe.
As it is the next stage of the Sharingan, the Rinnegan retains some of its abilities, but not all of them. For example, the Rinnegan can cast the basic Sharingan’s Genjutsu techniques like Coercion Sharingan, but with much more power since the Rinnegan exceeds the Sharingan in power. The Rinnegan has also shown the ability to let Sasuke see entities in other dimensions and to be able to see during a time-stop, even if he can’t act during it.

The Rinnegan has also shown the ability to let Sasuke see entities in other dimensions and to be able to see during a time-stop, even if he can’t act during it.
Most importantly, users of the Rinnegan are able to manifest godlike powers through the usage of the Six Paths Technique. These powers are manifested through seven different paths.
By the way, like Sasuke’s Sharingan, he hasn’t displayed all of the techniques himself for story reasons or just not being needed. However, as he not only mastered his Rinnegan, but has a version superior to other Rinnegan and he received his directly from the person who first awakened it, there’s absolutely no reason to assume Sasuke couldn’t utilize all of the Rinnegan’s basic Six Path Technique abilities.
Deva Path
- Bansho Ten’in: The ability to manipulate attractive forces to draw matter towards the user. Once this technique is used, there is a time limit of at least 5 seconds before it or any other Deva Path Techniques can be utilized, although that time period can be longer depending on the strength put into the attack. This time limit is shared between all three Deva Path techniques.
- Shinra Tensei: The ability to manipulate repulsive forces to push matter and jutsu away from the user.
- Chibaku Tensei: He also has a FAR more powerful version called Six Paths - Chibaku Tensei, that creates much larger spheres, but he needs Naruto’s help or at the very least another person.
Asura Path
Through the Asura Path, a user of the Rinnegan is able to use up to four additional arms and two additional faces as well as a folded, serrated blade-like sash around their waist. These new appendages, as well as the user’s body as a whole, are augmented with a variety of mechanical weaponry that they can access at will, such as missiles and jet propellers.
- Asura Attack: With the body modifications of the Asura Path, a Rinnegan user can open parts of their body to reveal a cannon that fires a massive blast of chakra with explosive power strong enough to devastate an entire area.
- Flaming Arrow of Amazing Ability: Using the body modifications of the Asura Path, a Rinnegan user compresses a high amount of chakra at the slit of their wrist before releasing it, causing their detachable hand to be fired with tremendous force. It has enough destructive power to easily break through thick bedrock. As the hand portion is protected with chakra, it remains unscathed. When the attack is completed, the hand is drawn back like a magnet by chakra in the wrist, reattaching itself.
Human Path
With the Human Path, a Rinnegan user gains the ability to read the mind of any target by placing their hand on the target’s head or chest and yanking the soul out of the target’s body, effectively killing the target.
Animal Path
With the Animal Path, a Rinnegan user is granted the ability of summoning various immortal animals and creatures to aid them in battle. This type of summoning is unique because it doesn’t require a blood sacrifice or hand seals. These are the following animals a Rinnegan
user can use through the Animal Path:
- Giant Drill-Beaked Bird
- Giant Multi-Headed Dog
- Giant Snake-Tailed
- Giant Panda
- Giant Ox
- Giant Rhino
- Giant Crustacean
- Giant Centipede
Preta Path
With the Preta Path, a Rinnegan user is given the ability to absorb chakra in any form. This ability is entirely defensive in nature as it is capable of absorbing chakra from an individual through physical contact. In addition to this, a Rinnegan user is able to absorb ninjutsu-based techniques that are pure chakra or chakra-based, thereby nullifying their effect.
- Blocking Technique Absorption Seal: A highly advanced sealing technique that conjures a see-through barrier around the user’s body that is capable of absorbing any chakra, regardless of any shape or nature transformation, and dispersing it within one’s body by spinning the chakra within one’s body in the opposite direction. As a result, this technique can absorb any ninjutsu based technique, rendering it ineffective on the user.
Naraka Path
With the Naraka Path, a Rinnegan user is granted with the two abilities of interrogation and restoration by using the King of Hell, a giant head that sprouts out of the ground surrounded by flames. A Rinnegan user can also transport bodies and souls using the King of Hell.
For interrogation, the King of Hell will unzip its mouth to release tendril-like arms and would draw out an apparition of the victim’s life force in the form of an enlarged tongue. The King of Hell would pass judgement on any answer the victim has given. If the person was lying or refused to answer any questions, the King of Hell would kill them by removing their tongue and consume it. If the person told the truth however, they would be spared but be left extremely exhausted.
For restoration, the King of Hell can repair any damage done to a body. All it has to do is ingest the body by bringing it into its mouth with its tendril-like arms. After some time, the destroyed body would reemerge from its mouth completely rejuvenated.
Outer Path
With the Outer Path, a Rinnegan user is able to revive the dead, transmit chakra to receivers, and manifest chakra chains. However, despite possessing the Outer Path, Sasuke hasn’t ever been shown performing any jutsus related to the Outer Path.
Space–Time Ninjutsu
Sasuke has shown to be able to use Space-Time Ninjutsu whilst in and out of combat. Sasuke doesn’t know a lot of space-time ninjutsus but he does know a few key ones.
Amenotejikara
Using the Rinnegan, Sasuke can instantly shift the location of himself, others, objects, and ninjutsu within a certain range, though the range can be increased if he wraps himself with an object. Using the chakra of the nine Tailed Beasts allows Sasuke to extend the range even further.
Due to its speed, this technique is extremely useful in launching surprise attacks against enemies as well as possessing the psychological effects of throwing opponents off guard by confusing them with when Sasuke runs their technique into an empty space or when he and the enemy launch their attacks towards each other, leaving the opponent confused until this technique transports them to Sasuke just in time to get hit by the attacks.
Sasuke can now use Amenotejikara even when his Rinnegan is overused. And not only does it switches position but also the momentum and direction of the switched targets as well.
Portals
Using the Rinnegun, Sasuke is able to create portals that allow him to travel between dimensions as well as other places. These portals are extremely useful but also have a major downside in that they require a lot of chakra in order to create them and and extended portal creation will eventually prevent Sasuke from using them for some time.
Hiei
Demonic Heritage
Hiei is a demon and due to his demon heritage, he has a couple of different powers outside of his most commonly used powers and abilities:
- Demon Energy: Also known as Demonic Aura, this is only used by demons and varies widely depending on what type of Class the Demon is. It is said that S Class Demons are strong enough to stress the entire planet.
- Astral Projection: In the manga, Hiei demonstrates the ability to naturally separate his physical body from his spirit.
- Spiritual Awareness: He can detect other spirits even if they appear to be invisible.
- Regeneration: While his regeneration has limits - he is easily able to heal from minor injuries and even potentially fatal - for example when he regenerated from getting a hole in his chest.
- Elemental Resistance: Being a Fire Demon also gives him extreme resistance to the heat and the cold (shown when Seiryu the Blue Dragon's Ice Dragon technique, an attack which turned Byakko, another Saint Beast, into a giant ice cube didn’t affect Hiei at all).
- Afterimages: Due to his speed, Hiei can create afterimages of himself in order to fool opponents.
Swordsmanship/Sword Techniques
Hiei is a master swordsman, a skill he utilizes to great effect in battle. His sword fighting style is centered around mercilessly overwhelming his opponents with powerful strikes and incredible speed. He tends to use his sword to quickly defeat weaker enemies but he will use his potential when fighting stronger enemies.
Sword of the Darkness Flame
Hiei channels dark flames through his sword, increasing the power of his slashes. He has used this to easily butcher an enemy whose skin was too durable for him to damage with normal sword swings. This attack can still work if Hiei’s sword is broken. He tends not to use this technique as much due to him finding it cowardly to limit his power in the form of a sword - he also doesn’t like it due to it being very similar to Kuwabara’s technique.
Jagan
The Jagan Eye is an eye that was implanted into Hiei by the demon Shigure (Hiei wanted the Jagan Eye in order to find his homeland of the Ice Demons). While it takes a lot of energy to use and can heavily decrease a demon’s level of power (Hiei went from an A Level Demon to a D Level Demon because of the eyeplant). It gives the user a whole host of different abilities once used and mastered:
- Telepathy: Hiei is capable of communicating with others telepathically over long distances, as well as reading other people's thoughts.
- Telekinesis: Hiei has demonstrated the ability to move objects with his mind.
- Mind Control: Back in his villain days, Hiei controlled the minds of others in order to further his own plans. He usually doesn’t do this anymore, as he is now more of an anti-hero, but there is no reason that he could not use it if he so desired.
- Mind Resistance: Hiei has shown that is capable of resisting mind-manipulation as his Jagan Eye has shown being able to resist mental control and illusions.
- Remote Viewing: Hiei can use the Jagan to observe people and events from afar. This can locate things with exact precision, and also allows Hiei’s other senses to operate remotely, such as hearing, which allows him to listen in to faraway conversations.
- Heightened Senses: The Jagan increases Hiei’s senses and perception to superhuman levels. This allows him to detect miniscule movements and predict oncoming attacks.
Pyrokinesis
Hiei is a male fire demon and as such he has control over the element of fire as well as produce fire naturally. He uses his fire manipulation in various ways throughout the series
Fist of the Mortal Flame
Hiei channels flames (regular flames, rather than demon flames, hence “mortal”) into one or both of his fists, increasing his striking power and inflicting additional fire-based damage onto the target. It is capable of melting extremely durable objects such as Bui’s Axe.
Flamethrower
Hiei can use fire as a flamethrower in order to burn the enemy target though it is shown to have it’s limits as it was used on Bui but was ineffective against him.
Black Dragon
The Black Dragon is created when Hiei uses his demon energy in order to lure out the flames of Demon World and create a dragon from them. The dragon is uncontrollable, even for Hiei, unless he can absorb it within his very being - which he later did. Though earlier on in the story he wasn’t able to fully control it - he can more or less direct it an enemy in a technique called - Dragon of the Darkness Flame. The Black Dragon is also extremely powerful as it is made out of black, demonic flames and can consume anything that it devours. Hiei is the only one that has been fully capable of mastering this technique.
Dragon Absorption Form
When Hiei absorbs the Dragon into himself, it gives him a massive boost in power, speed and defense. It also gives him a resistance to pain (though stronger foes like Sensui can make him still feel pain) and allows him to, he can shoot bursts of dark flame from his hands, as well as surround himself with the flames of the dragon to boost his agility. However, it comes with one massive downside, both the Black Dragon and the Dragon Absorption form use so much power out of Hiei that he must go into a state of hibernation for a while in order to regain his energy. He also has two other techniques he can use while in the Dragon Absorption State:
- Repulsion Field: Can create a barrier that electrocutes the foe and pushes them back
- Energy Absorption: Hiei can use this technique to drain opponents of their energy. He did this against Bui and his Battle Aura.
Jaganshi Form
Hiei with enough energy can transform into his Jaganshi form. In this form, his skin turns green and eyes sprout all over his body. His Jagan powers increase his strength and speed while in this form and give him new techniques such as binding opponents or summoning multiple dark dragons. The main downside to this technique is that it drains a lot of energy so he can’t use it in prolonged fights, which is why he favors the Dragon of the Darkness Flame over it.
Jagan Binding Curse
Using the power of the Jagan, Hiei is able to create concentric rings of energy in order to surround and paralyse a target, as shown through Hiei’s fight against Yusuke. Hiei can tighten the curse to make the target feel more pain. It’s only downside is that it needs a constant flow of energy in order to use as well as Hiei’s complete concentration or it will break.
Black Dragon Wave
While in Jagan form, Hiei is able to create several Black Dragons in order to fire as projectiles. Based on the way that Hiei is firing out the Black Dragons, it’s very likely that while in Jaganishi Form - Hiei has more control over the Dragons as he directed them against Raigo in his fight against him.
Feats
Sasuke
Accomplishments
- Defeated Naruto in their first battle
- Defeated and “killed” his teacher, Orochimaru
- Defeated Deidara, an S-rank ninja and member of the Akatsuki
- “Defeated” his brother, Itachi
- Snuck into a room with 5 of the most powerful and capable ninja on the planet along with their guards in it and went unnoticed until his accomplice had to point him out.
- Defeated Danzō Shimura
- Contributed to the battle against Obito and Madara
- Resisted the Infinite Tsukuyomi
- Helped defeat Kaguya Otsutsuki
- Helped defeat Momoshiki Otsutsuki
Strength
- Created a moon alongside Naruto (calc’d at 1.9 zettatons of TNT each, which is small planet level)
- Matched two Rasenshuriken from Naruto’s Asura Kurama form, contributing to a massive blast that altered the weather
- Cut through Madara’s meteors with his Perfect Susano’o
- Comparable to Six Paths Madara, who spread the Shinju Tree’s roots (calcs vary from 360 exatons of TNT, which is moon level+, to various results in the zettaton/yottaton range, which is planet to large planet)
- Is consistently portrayed as Naruto’s equal throughout the series and should scale to his feats. For reference, a nearly chakra-less base Naruto survived a blast that blew a hole through the hollow moon in The Last (calc’d at 480 petatons of TNT by Death Battle in Naruto vs Ichigo, which is multi-continent level) and Sasuke is still his equal by the time of Boruto’s era.
- Strong enough to damage Momoshiki, who was able to trade blows with and damage Adult Naruto. In The Last, a younger Naruto survived a strike from a beam that cut the moon in half, and later overpowered the same attack (226 exatons of TNT, moon level+).
- Destroyed a meteor (367 megatons - 1.8 gigatons, large city to small island level)
- Busted a mountain with Kirin (600+ megatons, large city level)
- Possesses half of Hogoromo’s power which created the moon (517 zettatons. Divided in half that’s 258.5 zettatons for Sasuke, which is planet level)
Speed
- Comparable to Six Paths Naruto, who dodged Madara’s Light Fang, which is lightspeed according to the databook. This feat is widely debated, however.
- Kept up with Six Paths Madara, who was somewhat capable of reacting to 8th Gate Guy
- Kept up with the Fourth Raikage, Ay, who was considered the fastest shinobi alive at the time, including the other Kage. This should allow him to scale to the Kage intercepting Toneri’s meteors at Mach 5060.
- Far superior to Pain, who dodged Sage Naruto’s Rasenshuriken at Mach 2606
- Superior to Kakashi, who has multiple lightning-timing feats (and in-universe statements to back them up). This has been calc’d at Mach 2225, though using the lower value for lightning that Death Battle uses (220,000 mph), it would decrease to Mach 497.
- Fast enough to use a reverse summoning jutsu to escape Deidara’s suicide blast.
- Comparable to Itachi, who reacted to Kirin (Mach 2915)
Durability
- Survived attacks from Kaguya
- Survived the resulting blast from the collision of Indra’s Arrow and Asura Kurama’s Rasenshuriken
- Survived several Tailed Beast Bombs exploding point-blank
- Survived attacks from Madara Uchiha
- Survived Raikage's Liger Bomb
- Withstood hits from Kinshiki and Momoshiki Otsutsuki
- Survived a fall to the atmosphere
- Survived the clash that blew off both he and Naruto’s arms as well as avoided bleeding out while already on the verge of death
- Should scale to Naruto surviving Toneri’s moon slicing blast
Hiei
Accomplishments
- Upper S-Class demon
- Easily defeated Seiryū, the second-strongest member of the Four Saint Beasts
- In the Dark Tournament, defeated: Zeru, Makintaro, Kuro Momotaro, Bui
- Won the Dark Tournament along with the rest of Team Urameshi
- Defeated Kaname Hagiri, AKA Sniper, a member of the Sensui Seven
- Fought on par with Yusuke Urameshi for 12 minutes
- Aided in the battle against Shinobu Sensui
- Drew with Shigure the demon surgeon, one of Mukuro’s elite warriors
Strength
- Should be comparable/superior to Sensui, who based on a statement is theoretically capable of triggering a highly destructive earthquake on a global scale while at a fraction of his power (1.9 petatons - 15 petatons; continent level)
- Being a high S-Class demon, should easily scale above weaker demons who were considered to be capable of destroying an entire country
- Comparable to Yusuke, who was also stated to be able to destroy a country (Assuming Japan, that’s 2.643 teratons - 50 teratons; small country to country level)
- In the Dark Tournament Arc, busted half of a large dome and created a trench in the ground with Dragon of the Darkness Flame (513.983 kilotons - 4.227 megatons; large town to small city level)
- Along with Team Urameshi, held up a huge stone ceiling
- Scales above Younger Toguro, who could lift an entire 1000 ton stadium on his back
- Far above DT Arc Yusuke, whose Reigan busted a stadium wall, several kilometers of forest, and disturbed a large quantity of water (15.17 kilotons of TNT; town level)
- Created a large crater with a punch
Speed
- Easily superior to an early Yusuke, who reacted to and deflected Suzaku’s electrical arrows (7:52). Many of Suzaku’s attacks are formed from lightning called down from the sky, which by Death Battle’s standards moves at Mach 286.7.
- Sliced Seiryu, someone who can throw hundreds of punches in a split second, 16 times before he could throw a single punch (Mach 39.62)
- Sliced through multiple demons while appearing to be standing still

- Saved Yusuke from an explosion
- Completed a mission in 0.84 seconds
- Scales to Yusuke punching a bunch of demons away at Mach 102
- Comparable to Sensui, who dodged Yusuke’s Mach 103.8 Reigan
- Should easily scale far above Toguro’s Mach 25 air bullets
Durability
- Survived an attack from Sensui
- No-sold attacks from Bui
- Can take hits from Yusuke
- As a baby, survived a fall out of the sky
- Withstood his own Dragon of the Darkness Flame, which is composed of hellfire
- Endured being punched through the chest
- After absorbing Dragon of the Darkness Flame, was unaffected by B-Class Demon Bui's assaults
- Could still fight after losing an arm and being sliced through the stomach
- Endured a punch from an enraged Mukuro and kept fighting
- Survived a massive fall when he was only a baby
Weaknesses
Sasuke
Like many other shinobi, Sasuke’s chakra isn’t infinite. Many of his of his strongest techniques require a lot of chakra, meaning he’s gotta be consiervative in his chakra usage lest he runs out. Additionally, the man has one arm. Yes, he can use susano’o, but that requires chakra and puts a strain on his sharingan.
Hiei
Hiei’s biggest weakness is that his more powerful attacks (i.e. Darkness of the Dragon Flame, Jaganshi, and Dragon Absorption) drain a lot of his energy and make him physically exhausted, forcing him into hibernation in order to regain his energy. His second main weakness is also one of his greatest strengths - the Jagan itself. If the Jagan is blinded, then Hiei is weakened temporarily, as many of his techniques rely on the Jagan in order to function.
Summary
Sasuke
“It's kind of like a prayer, to keep enduring until it comes to be, no matter what. And to those upon whom that task falls, perhaps that’s what it means to be a ninja!"
Advantages:
- Superior physical stats in all three areas of the stat trinity
- Greater variety of abilities and techniques
- Resistance to mind control should negate Hiei’s mental manipulation abilities
- Susano’o grants size and flight advantage
- Is a more analytical and intelligent fighter
- Doesn’t say racial slurs
Disadvantages:
- Genjutsu and elemental attacks are less effective against Hiei than they normally would be
- Some of his abilities, including some that would be very useful, have rarely/never been shown being utilized by Sasuke himself (i.e. a number of Rinnegan abilities)
- Chakra reserves, while large, are finite
Hiei
"Countless centuries, countless masters tried to harness the power of the darkness flame. Only I have had the courage, the strength and the abandon to realize its glorious potential. I have the power of the Black Dragon, because now I am the dragon!"
Advantages:
- Jagan Eye’s resistances could make Genjutsu less effective
- Elemental resistance lessens effectiveness of Sasuke’s elemental jutsu
- Regeneration can heal minor damage
- Has two arms
Disadvantages:
- Physically at a disadvantage in all three areas of the stat trinity
- Several of his abilities exhaust stamina quickly
- Has a less versatile skill set

Soooo, Sasuke vs Hiei - one of the most requested Anime Fights for DEATH BATTLE and a long, highly requested matchup that i have seen people request since forever. While it isn’t my preferred matchup for Sasuke as i feel Kingdom Hearts’s Riku works better as a matchup for Sasuke rather then Hiei but i accept that this was by far the most likely option for them to do considering how many requests it has gotten and the thematic similarities between the two
While i do like this matchup I do have one major problem with it and it should be kinda obvious if you have looked at the VS debating scene in regards to this matchup in particular is that unlike the previous 3-4 fights - this DEATH BATTLE has a quite obvious winner and i am just going to up front with this one unlike a lot of my previous verdicts - Sasuke wins this with little to mid difficulty. I love both characters but Sasuke has several attributes to him that makes him the superior fighter. As for why I think Sasuke takes this easily - let’s take a look at the Stats.
Strength - This is fairly easily to figure out, Sasuke once created a moon alongside Naruto. Even splitting this feat in half - it was still calced at 1.9 zettatons of TNT each, which is small planet level. But that’s not the only strength feat of note - Sasuke. During the Last Movie - Sasuke destroyed a meteor in order to prevent it from hitting his allies - this feat was calced at 367 megatons lowballling which is large city level (rather low for Sasuke) and highballed at - 1.8 gigatons which is at island level. So he should at the very least be City Level/Island level - Planet Level right? Considering that Sasuke himself as well as the very Top Tiers of the series (like TOP Tiers) have displayed moon level-planet level feats such as the time. Toneri for example created a beam that cut the moon in half which had been calced (226 exatons of TNT, moon level+). Considering that Sasuke has fought beings of similar power such as Momoshiki then it’s safe to say that that Sasuke is at the Moon-Planet Level range in terms of destructive capability. This is consistent with Naruto whom Sasuke has matched in combat at the EOS. So in conclusion, Sasuke should be at least Moon to Planet levels in Destructive Capability. So what about Hiei?, well in terms of Direct Feats - Hiei once busted half of a large dome and created a trench in the ground with Dragon of the Darkness Flame which at its absolute highest should be around 4.227 megatons - small city level. Now keep in mind this is Dark Tournament Hiei - the Dark Tournament happened in the middle of the series so this feat cannot be considered Hiei’s absolute best especially considering that it had been stated that Demons above a certain level are capable of destroying an entire country and Hiei likely fits into that category - being a high S-Class Demon. Though this Dragon of the Darkness Flame feat is his best direct feat shown. But if we go with scaling then he is likely higher as he scales to the likes of DT Yusuke whose Reigan was able to bust a stadium wall as well as several kilometers of forest and a large quantity of water - this feat was calced at 15.17 kilotons of TNT. Obviously there are characters that are higher than this but they are only stated to be this level through statements which are fallible (an example of this is Sensui who was stated to be able to create earthquakes on a global scale). So if we go by direct feats - Hiei should be around City Level to Town Feat through direct feats/scaling and much higher through statements. Even if you tried highballing Hiei with statements said in the show such as S Class Demons are able to shake the planet - it would still not be enough to beat Sasuke in the Destructive Capability Department. Obviously Sasuke wins this.
Now let’s talk Speed. Sasuke has never really shown much direct speed feats - at least comparatively to other characters in the series. However, he has kept up and matched characters in speed. Though his attack speed has been calced. With one of his most powerful moves - Kirin, the attack was moving at around Mach 2915. While you can’t really scale this attack’s speed to other attacks such as the Chidori - Kirin itself should definitely be this speed. As for scaling, Sasuke should be superior to Kakashi, who has multiple lightning-timing feats. This has been calc’d at Mach 2225. So in terms of speed - it’s likely his attack speed at max with Kirin and his travel speed should be Mach 2225. As for Hiei, he has a lot more direct speed feats as he has shown to be able to blitz opponents - for example, what he did against Seiryū. This feat has been calced at Mach 39.62 - but this was early series Hiei (this is his best direct feat though). As for scaling - Hiei matched Early Yusuke in combat whom reacted to and deflected Suzaku’s electrical arrows. Suzaku’s attacks are formed from lightning called down from the sky, which had it’s very lowball - would move around Mach 286.7. Despite the lack of direct speed feats - Sasuke clearly had the edge as his fastest attack is at the very least Mach 2915 and scales to Mach 2000 opponents while Hiei’s best direct speed feat comes out to Mach 39 and scaling comes to around Mach 286.7. Sasuke definitely has the edge in speed.
In terms of Durability, i could just scale their Destructive Capability to their Durability and just and just let that be the end of it - but that really wouldn’t be that much fun now would it. Sasuke in terms of Durability, Sasuke has tanked the likes of Deidra’s bombs which have been shown to have Mountain Levels of Destructive Capability and Deidra’s most powerful bomb has been calced at Small Country Level - 1,60 Teratons (though keep in mind this is his most powerful bomb). Though this isn’t Sasuke’s best durability feat. While using Susano - he has tanked attacks from Kaguya whose sons moved the moon (which is a moon/planet level feat). He has also tanked this massive explosion which destroyed several mountains which at the very least should country level if not higher. So Sasuke should definitely be at least Planet Level durability from scaling to Kaguya and Country to Multi-Continent if we are looking at his own durability feats. As for Hiei, he’s tanked attacks from the likes of Sensui who was able to trigger a highly destructive earthquake on a global scale with less then of his normal power. Sensui at his max should likely be higher 2 Petatons of TNT which is powerful enough to destroy a Continent and Hiei’s tanked attacks from him so he should be around at the same level, especially considering that Hiei in the manga is an S Class Demon - someone at a higher level then Sensui. So i would lean towards Hiei’s durability being around Contient Level. So if we take into consider both scaling and direct feats - Sasuke definitely takes it, he’s tanked attacks from Planet/Moon Busters such as Kaguya who has shown moon to planet level destructive capability though Hiei’s feat of tanking attacks from Sensui is more impressive than most of Sasuke’s durability feats - it still doesn’t mean much when Sasuke scales to much higher opponents - Sasuke definitely has the durability advance.
So it’s pretty safe to say that Sasuke has the edge in all three stat areas - Destructive Capability,Speed and Durability right? So what about other aspects like their main attacks and forms? Well, it’s rather interesting that a lot of what both Sasuke and Hiei can do can counter the other. Sasuke’s Shiragun has extremely impressive Genjutsu that is able to entrap anyone within Sasuke’s sight but it also very much countered by the Jagan Eye which has been said to be able to resist mind control and mind manipulation, so if Sasuke tried to use Genjutsu on him - it’s very likely that it would not work. There’s also the fact that Fire Attacks are pretty much useless against Hiei considering his status as a fire demon and being able to absorb and use fire though while Hiei would have no issue with most of Sasuke’s fire based attacks - it’s debatable if Amaetarsu could hurt Hiei though I am personally leaning on the likely side. So when it comes down to this fight - who has more techniques and abilities that can hurt the other? Well sadly for Hiei, Sasuke also wins this with his big trump card is being Susano who not only has provided him protection against potentially devastating attacks but is also a giant massive being and could very easily crush Hiei with it’s sheer size alone - plus most of its attacks would be definitely be too strong for Hiei to handle. There’s also his Lighting Chakra moves which may not be his most deadly attacks - could very easily end the fight by destroying Hiei’s inside or atomizing him using Kirin (which is the deadliest lighting style attack there is). Plus there are the Six Paths Techniques such as Deva Path which Sasuke could very much use to pull Hiei in for a close range finish or just knock him way and then fire one of his many projectiles at him. Plus there is Human Path which allows Sasuke to read Hiei’s mind (though the Jagan could protect him against this) or simply pull the soul out of Hiei’s body - ending the fight right then and there. Sasuke has many, many different ways of defeating Hiei and i know what you are thinking? What about Hiei, surely he must have a lot to defeat Sasuke right? Well not a lot - while the Darkness of the Dragon Flame is extremely powerful and more than capable of obliterating weaker demons - it has shown that it cannot destroy beings who are more powerful then it - as characters have tanked it before. Even if you make the argument that the Darkness of the Dragon Flame is a one-hit KO regardless of durability - Sasuke should be able to dodge it or nullify it completely with a strong enough attack. Plus the Darkness of the Dragon Flame is really only meant to be used once as afterwards it completely drains Hiei of his energy which definitely would hurt Hiei in the long run. Even his Dragon Absorption and Jaganishi Forms don’t have any techniques that could definitely end Sasuke for good and while then Jaganishi binding could be fairly helpful - Sasuke can simply use his space-time jutsu to get out of it. So in terms of their arsenals - Sasuke has the edge for sure.
Hiei’s weaknesses are also a lot more glaring then Sasuke’s weaknesses. A lot of Hiei’s greatest attacks require a lot of energy and once done - they can easily drain him quickly which is going to be extremely costly. While Sasuke’s chakra supply isn’t infinite - it has shown to be extremely long and is definitely much more than Hiei’s energy levels. Meaning Hiei is definitely going to run out of energy much faster than Sasuke runs out of chakra. Plus all of Hiei’s techniques rely on the Jagan Eye in order to function so if Sasuke is able to damage it - which he should be able to, that goes most of Sasuke’s most powerful attacks.
Even when taking their intelligence and experience into account - Sasuke is a much more analytical fighter then what Hiei usually does. While Hiei is a skilled swordsman for sure and has proved that he can fight with his brain - he usually relies on his strongest attack to end the fight quickly and doesn’t really use his brain much while in combat - that’s more Kurama’s thing. Sasuke on the other hand has shown to be extremely analytical while in combat and have figured out techniques and weaknesses of his opponents with just a few glances. So i would say Sasuke has the edge in terms of combat intelligence. Experience is fairly debatably because we don’t know how old Hiei is but Sasuke has shown to be in a lot more fights then Hiei has so it’s safe to say that Sasuke overall has more experience over Hiei.
Overall, Hiei is extremely powerful overall but he just pales in comparison to Sasuke whom has the stronger destructive capability, the faster speed, better durability, a better arsenal, more combat intelligence, more experience, far less weaknesses and is overall the better fighter. I am sorry Hiei, you may be my second favourite Yu Yu Hakusho character but your black flames are not going to be able to snuff out Sasuke.

Well what’s up everyone it’s an honor to be back working with the G1 Death Battle Fanblog. Sasuke vs Hiei has easily one of my most wanted and anticipated matches for a long time, and having been a huge Naruto fan since I was a small child, how could I not join. I have also gotten into YYH for this reason (I wanted to read all of it before writing but sadly could not however I feel I have read enough information about Hiei to do both characters justice.
Now that introductions our out of the way I do have to say Sasuke greatly surpasses Hiei in all relevant physical stats areas (thank good old glorious Shonen power creep for that, the fourth ninja war is literally longer then YYH is in its entirety.)
Starting with Attack Potency Sasuke has proved to be an eternal rival to our loveable knuckle headed orange wearing ninja Naruto and created a moon alongside him (calculated at small level planet level) and has tanked hits from a fought Momoshiki who’s on par with Adult Naruto, meaning he should be still on par with him ergo he obviously scales far above a near out of chakra Naruto tanking the explosion that made a hole in the moon and Toneri’s attack that cut it in half. Even ignoring Naruto’s existence entirely Sasuke easily scales far above the likes of the Juubi and it’s Jinchuriki Obito and Madara, who have feats of nuking the Shinobi alliance headquarters from a great distance (5.14 petatons or multi continent level), creating several natural disasters (10 petatons) and feats spreading the Shinju Tree respective life. Obito’s being 673 petatons and Madara’s varying from 360 exatons to different degrees of planet level (however this version is more dubious).
As for Hiei as an S class demon he should easily scale above Sensui shaking the entire planet while using only ⅕ of his power this is also consistent with lesser demons being able to destroy an entire country and Yusuke upon being revived being stated by Genkai to destroy a county as easily as one can break a Toy. Now almost nobody actually argues this anymore but no these are not enough evidence to consider YYH characters planet level, there’s no definitive feats at this level and the statements do not support this unless you use an extremely generous interpretation of them. And if we did give generous assumptions for Sasuke he’d get partial scaling to the Sage of The Six Paths Hagoromo which debatably gives planet level results.
Moving on to speed this is the sauce once again overwhelms the burning demon. At the bare minimum Sasuke’s is quadruple mach MHS scaling from lighting reacting feats from Kakashi and Itachi and keeping up with the Raikage allows him to scale to the large feats from The last this not getting into the more controversial feats such as Naruto dodging Madara’s light fang attack. Hiei on the other hand, consistent speed feats from YYH (such as Suzaku’s lighting and Yusuke’s Reigan) have been calculated at triple digit MHS. While Hiei does scale far above these later the exact difference is unquantifiable. Meaning Sasuke could run circles around Hiei Area 51 style.
Durability is the same case as attack potency so I’ll move on to their skills and abilities. Surprisingly despite Sasuke’s massive versatile movepool of Jutsu. Hiei is able to counter a good amount of them. Jagan Eye protects him from mind Manipulation so Genjutsu is out. His Fire Demon heritage and master over the Dragon of The Darkness Flame provides resistance to Sasuke’s Fire jutsu and Amaterasu. Hiei has resisted being electrocuted on multiple occasions and The Darkness Flame is infused with lighting several times so Chidori techniques are also covered. Hiei can survive and separate his soul from his body so ripping his soul out with the Human Path will not kill him. His other traits from the Jagan Eye such as telekinesis and enhanced sight can also prove useful and match Sasuke in this regard. Tbh with all this in mind if Sasuke and Hiei were close enough in stats Hiei could very well come out on top. But the sad fact is this is just not the case.
So in case my verdict was so vague you’d need Rinnegan level vision to see through them I’m giving this to Sasuke but no matter who wins I’m wholeheartedly looking forward to the full episode and especially proud a best friend of mine’s most wanted match is becoming a reality.
For the legit reasoning of the fight tho it’s Sasuke and Hiei having a rematch over the Hello Kitty Doll will Sasuke toss Hiei Into the river for it? or will Hiei strangle it out of Sasuke’s barely conscious hands? stay tuned for the best Naruto episode yet to find out!

Guess who’s back
Back again
First of all, GG Kiryu, you proved me wrong, good on ya. Here’s hoping I get this next one right.
So, Sasuke vs Hiei! Knew this matchup would be happening sooner or later, the only question was when. And now the only question is, who wins? Luckily, that’s a pretty easy question to answer, and the reason why mostly just comes down to stats.
Starting with Sasuke, power-wise, notable feats that he has performed and scale to include him and Naruto creating a moon, Madara spreading the Shinju Tree’s roots, Toneri splitting the moon in half, and the Sage of Six Paths creating the moon in the past. These feats place him consistently in the moon to small planet level range, with some of them potentially reaching planet or even large planet if you highball a bit. Generally speaking, though, small planet is probably the most consistent level to place him at, and you don’t even need scaling for it.
Side note: No one scales to Kaguya’s ETSO, so the idea that it’s possibly star busting doesn’t mean anything. Stahp.
Hiei is a bit harder to lock down, mostly because late-game Yu Yu Hakusho stats are mostly determined through statements. “Yusuke can destroy a country”. “Sensui can put strain on the planet at 1/5 of his power”. Genkai’s statement about Yusuke having the potential to “destroy the world”. Etc. Best actual shown feat as far as I know is around the island level range, but going off of statements and author intent, S-class demons should likely be above that.
So let’s give the benefit of the doubt and scale Hiei to the statement that Sensui made, and set aside the possibility that said statement is a mistranslation (in the subbed version of the anime, the line is different than in the manga translation and does not have the same implications). Contrary to what some YYH fans claim, putting strain on the planet does not inherently imply planet level power. Even something as absurd as fragmenting the entire Earth without overcoming it’s GBE is only around 2 exatons of TNT, and there’s nothing implying that Sensui is even capable of doing that much.
His statement occurred due to the fact that his powering up shook the cave that they were fighting in; assuming that he could have caused such an effect on a global scale results in values ranging from 2 to 15 petatons of TNT. This is small continent to continent level. Generously assuming the high-end and accounting for the fact that he was at 1/5 of his power, this places a hypothetical full-power Sensui at 75 petatons of TNT. Hiei later becomes stronger than Sensui was, so let’s arbitrarily give him the benefit of the doubt and say he’s five times stronger by EoS. That’s 375 petatons of TNT.
Obviously, this is a massive highball, complete conjecture, and impossible to justify with actual evidence.
It’s over 100 petatons lower than Naruto vs Ichigo pegged a chakra-less base Naruto’s durability.
It’s over 5,000 times weaker than Sasuke and Naruto creating that moon.
It’s 148,890,376 times weaker than the highest version of the calc for Madara spreading the Shinju Tree’s roots (which is highballed heavily, mind you; I’m not saying it’s legit, moreso just pointing out that it exists).
Even if you want to give Hiei total benefit of the doubt and take Sensui’s statement (and Genkai’s) to its absolute highest possible interpretation, and say we should scale people to a ridiculous level based on vague, possibly mistranslated statements unsupported by feats?
There’s really no argument for Hiei being above, or really even close to Sasuke’s level of power unless you give him every benefit of the doubt and do not extend similar affordances to Sasuke.
Speedwise, things are more-or-less the same.
There are tons of feats in Naruto that get into the massively hypersonic+ range (that is to say thousands of times faster than sound), such as Itachi reacting to Kirin, Pain dodging Naruto’s Rasenshuriken in a minimal timeframe, and several of the Five Kage intercepting the Mach 5000 meteors that Toneri sent toward the planet. Additionally, higher tier Naruto characters can even get up to the relativistic/possibly lightspeed range due to databook statements such as the one regarding Madara’s Light Fang (among others).
The best calc I’ve seen produced for Hiei to scale to is Mach 103, which is completely insufficient in comparison. Yusuke reacting to Suzaku’s lightning arrows is interesting, but estimating his relative movement based on the panels, I don’t think it would be that much better than the aforementioned Mach 103, if it would even be better at all. Even if he could match their speed 1:1, that would still only be around Mach 286.7. I’ve also seen it said that EoS YYH characters get up Mach 600+, but I have not been able to track down the calc for it, nor do I know what the feat is. Assuming it’s the case, even early Shippuden Sasuke is still fast enough to run circles around it.
It’s really a shame, because abilities-wise Sasuke and Hiei are a well-made match. Sasuke has more to work with, but Hiei counters a surprising amount of it with his elemental resistances and Jagan (though it’s worth noting that Sharingan users can still mind hax people who normally have resistance to mind hax, so it’s debatable how much the Jagan’s mental resistances would really help). It’s just the stat difference that makes this lopsided.
Ultimately, I predict that Sauce Sasuke will come out on top.

Bet you didn’t expect me here again so soon, did ya? Considering this episode of Death Battle is going to be a Naruto fight, I just knew I had to come back. I was here for Naruto vs Ichigo and Roshi vs Jiraiya, wasn’t I? Ever since Naruto was announced as Death Battle combatant, I knew it was only a matter of time before Sasuke entered the fray. Here he is, and he’s not fighting Kingdom Heart’s Riku. Who’s he going to fight? The very character that Masashi Kishimoto took inspiration from when creating Sasuke: Hiei from Yu Yu Hakuso.
Who’s going to win between these anime edgelords? From what we’ve learned from the combatants, Hiei can resist Sasuke’s elemental attacks and genjutsu. Other than that, Hiei got nothing. Remember that Sasuke scales to Naruto, and Death Battle have already shown how power Naruto was in his episode. Meanwhile, nothing Hiei has ever done in Yu Yu Hakuso comes close to Sasuke’s level.
In terms of strength, Sasuke and Naruto both created a moon together. Each of their half was calculated to be small planet level. Additionally, Sasuke has been on par with opponents such as Madara Uchiha and Momoshiki Otsutsuki, each of whom were capable of performing moon to planet level feats. Hiei’s strength is limited to being comparable to Yusuke and Sensui and being superior to weaker demons, all of whom were stated of being capable of destroying continents and countries. However, that type of strength is leagues below Sasuke’s moon and planet level capabilities.
In terms of speed, both Sasuke and Hiei have shown to be capable of dodging lightning attacks. While that type of speed puts them at massively hypersonic, that isn’t Sasuke’s limit. Remember that Sasuke is on par with Naruto, who himself dodged Madara’s lightspeed jutsu. And even then, Sasuke has shown to be comparable and superior to other shinobi who have displayed impressive speed feats, all of which are faster than any of Hiei’s speed feats and scaling.
In terms of durability, Sasuke outclasses Hiei. While Hiei has taken hits from characters stated to be capable of destroying continents and countries, remember that Sasuke has fought beings with much destructive capabilities and have taken hits from them. Sure, Hiei took hits from Mukuro, who’s capable of punching at the force of a nuke, and Sensui, who is stated to be capable of triggering continent level earthquakes. However, Sasuke survived the collision between Indra’s Arrow and Asura Kurama’s Rasenshuriken, got hit with multiple Tailed Beast Bombs at point blank, and scales to Naruto surviving Toneri’s moon slicing technique.
But what about their techniques you may ask. Who has the advantage in that category? Well, both combatants can resist some of each other’s techniques. Hiei’s demonic biology and Jagan Eye allows him to resist Sasuke’s Fire-Style and Lightning-Style jutsus, genjutsu, and the Rinnegan’s Human Path ability. On the other hand, Sasuke’s Rinnegan allows him to resist Hiei’s mind control ability. Both combatants also possess the ability to absorb energy. So what are we left with?
While Hiei does possess his Black Dragon/Darkness Flame techniques, they share similar properties with that of Sasuke’s Amaterasu. Therefore, Sasuke will know how to counter it as well as being able to dodge those techniques with his superior speed. While Sasuke won’t have stealth in his side thanks to the Jagan Eye’s ability of remote viewing, he can counter that ability with the Substitution and Shadow Clone jutsus. Hiei’s telekinesis and repulsion field will be surprise for Sasuke, but the Uchiha can provide his own surprises with the Rinnegan’s Deva Path abilities. In case Hiei traps Sasuke with the Jagan Binding Curse, Sasuke can simply switch places with Hiei by using Amenotejikara. And despite Hiei’s regeneration abilities allowing him to keep fighting, Sasuke has his own healing method through the Naraka Path’s ability to summon the King of Hell for healing and body repair.
This leads to their forms, the Jaganshi Form and Susano’o. Though technically, Susano’o isn’t a form but one of the techniques of the Mangekyo Sharingan and is used as a giant suit of armor. Both increase the combatants’ strength, speed, and durability. However, neither changes their level. Hiei, even with his Jaganshi Form, is still country/continent level while Sasuke with Susano’s is still moon/planet level.
Overall, Sasuke and Hiei can resist some of each other’s abilities, but Sasuke perfectly counters Hiei’s other techniques with the rest of his and possesses the superior stats in strength, speed, and durability to pull off the win. After this match, Hiei will be Ja-gone forever.
Brobuscus
Honestly, I just wanted an excuse to use that track.
Oh yeah, also, RIP Tommy. I really thought you had that fight, but I guess I was wrong.
Probably the least invested I’ve been for an episode this season. Only seen the first episode of Naruto and nothing on YYH.
All I really know is that this is essentially Spider-Man VS Android 17.
And Spider-Man wins.
It sounds like Hiei has some pretty decent counters to some of Sasuke’s abilities, but when you, a Continent Level & MHS character, are fighting against someone who helped create the moon and move at MHS+, there’s not really much you can do.
So yeah, Spide-I mean, Sasuke is gonna win this, and I see no reason he wouldn’t.
Tinnie
So, as you’re probably aware by this point, a lot of Sasuke and Hiei’s kits negates or resists the other’s. Hiei resists Sasuke’s fire jutsu, they both resist each other’s illusions and mind control, they both have basically the same form of precog and so on and so forth.
So the fight’s gonna start, they’ll feel each other out, and realize that the other not only has incredibly similar powers, but they can also shrug a lot of their offenses off, which will prompt a more physical approach since neither of them are dumb enough to keep wasting energy on fruitless endeavors. Luckily for Sasuke, however, he was a much wider array of hand to hand and weapon-based techniques that he can use to get a leg up on Hiei. Lots of combo-based hand to hand attacks, incredibly deceptive and difficult to predict shuriken attacks and both of these can be boosted further with lightning element jutsu like Chidori or just straight up calling out susano’o. Sasuke is just all around more versatile when it comes to a good no holds barred slapfest.
To make matters worse, Sasuke has experience fighting foes who not only have incredibly similar powers (and by ‘similar’ I mean exactly the fucking same) and physical prowess, but his stronger techniques – while incredibly taxing – are nowhere near as taxing as Hiei’s. Sasuke can keep up Susano’o, Amenotejikara and other eye fuckery for extended periods (just like at the 4th Ninja World War) and Kirin is basically free. Meanwhile, Hiei’s Jaganshi form and Dragon Absorption are both not only short-lived, but tax him to such an extent that he has to go into hibernation after using it.
So Sasuke’s more versatile. Sasuke’s got more valuable experience for this specific situation. Sasuke resists a significant portion of Hiei’s arsenal. Sasuke outlasts Hiei even with his regen, and can keep going on even further via chakra absorption. Sasuke could totally just cheese this fight with a BFR or seal. And to top it all off? Sasuke’s just tougher.
Not only has he performed superior destructive feats, but he’s taken what he can dish out and more many times. He easily scales to Naruto’s tanking the moon slice and helped create a moon, both small planet feats.
Shame for the YYH fans out there, but Hiei’s gonna get lost in the Sauce.

So this initial non-sequitur introduction is going to be a bit long, and it relates to my personal history with Yu Yu Hakusho. Long term is that I’ve not really cared for the series much, but I did watch bits of it as a kid, albeit it was under circumstances that are… unique to the part of the world where I grew up.
See, I was born and raised in the Philippines, and Yu Yu Hakusho was only available via one of the local channels back when it became big near the end of the 90s. For some reason though, the channel that held the rights to it decided they needed to make a few changes when they released the OG Tagalog dub, which I couldn’t understand for the life of me because - lo and behold - I was and still am absolutely shit at my native tongue. I would like to blame, or rather thank, the inordinate amounts of Japanese and American media I was exposed to as a kid.
First, they renamed the show into Ghost Fighter. Sounds innocent enough, and then some studio exec decided that that these weird-ass Japanese names would be too hard for your average Filipino weeaboo to understand (would like to note that this does not currently reflect the current dubbing industry back home). So we had to rename them; ergo, behold the truth:
Also a quick translator’s note: either because the casting director failed to do research or was blind - probably both, they turned Genkai into a man. Also, Kurama wasn’t originally called “Dennis”; because of the above reasons, they turned him into “Denise” before they realized he wasn’t a girl and then had to explain him off as someone who pretended to be one.
I swear I'm not making any of this up. Google “Ghost Fighter” to prove my point -- and no, the Tagalog dub did not butcher Sasuke’s name or anyone else from Naruto. We’ve learned our lesson by the mid-2000s. Scout’s honor.
So the tl;dr is that Sasuke is gonna murder some dude named Vincent. It’s a stomp.
Even considering the various different ways Sasuke and Hiei’s powers play off each other nicely, it’s ultimately the Sauce’s victory when stats come in. Last any of us double-checked Naruto, it boasts shit that Yu Yu Hakusho has never had to deal with in spades and more, and no amount of “being able to resist X with the Jagan or demon powers” is gonna help Hiei survive against an opponent who is just stronger and faster than him in every other area that matters.
Well, time to resume catching up with Naruto’s wack-ass story this fine Sept---
...wait.
