Death Battle Predictions: Gojo VS Makima

(Makima art by 徒歩10分

Spoiler Warning: Both Jujutsu Kaisen and Chainsaw Man are ongoing series, with the manga for JJK being frequently updated with things that have not been seen in the anime yet, and Chainsaw Man waiting for an anime adaptation soon. This blog will contain manga spoilers for both, so read at your own risk.

Additionally, due to the nature of Chainsaw Man, some of the scans in this blog will be NSFW. Viewer discretion is advised.

Satoru Gojo, the master of the Limitless and nearly peerless Sorcerer from Jujutsu Kaisen.

Makima, the cunning and cruel Control Devil and fangirl of the Chainsaw Man

Few have the mind to acknowledge the shortcomings and troubles of the world, and even fewer have the willpower to act on it. For those select people, they may see something worth rebuilding through righteous means, or believe that everything has to be cleansed of any possibility of corruption and conflict to achieve true peace.

These two live in worlds crawling with monsters born from the fears and negative emotions of mankind, and they’ve taken in teenagers fused with demons in order to properly mold them into the key to tearing down the old world into something better. One a teacher who wants to help his student live up to his limitless potential and show society a new way, the other an officer that views her new recruit as an attack dog to be controlled and wipe out humanity’s troubles. Will the one who holds up society’s pillars prevail at erasing this curse, or will one of man’s fears bring another below the heel of her boot?

In Case You’re Wondering…

Both series are pretty straightforward in terms of what material is valid to use.

For Jujutsu Kaisen, we will be using the manga, anime, JJK 0 film, the official JJK databook and the Jump GIGA Summer 2021 JJK "Deep Learning Mathematics Lecture". The Jump Giga lecture was an interview held with Gege’s editor (Gege being the author) and two mathematicians discussing the mechanics of Gojo’s Limitless ability and Domains. This interview is official, and was held in part due to Gege’s admitted issue with displaying/explaining Gojo’s ability. Here is a glossary for JJK terms if things become confusing (strongly recommend reading this, the series is very term-heavy).

For Chainsaw Man, we will be using the manga and its connected light novels.

Without further ado, let us begin.

Background

Satoru Gojo

"I’m gonna reset this crappy Jujutsu world. It’d be easy to kill everyone who’s in charge. But someone else would just take their place. Nothing would change. And it’s not as if people approve of massacres anyway… So that’s why I’m turning to education. I need strong and intelligent allies. I need to foster them."

In the world of Jujutsu Kaisen, the negative emotions of humanity can give birth to more than simple impulses and actions. They can manifest into Curses, monsters unseen and unheard, only known as a constant menace that causes many disappearances every year. To counteract these Curses, an organization of hunters known as the Jujutsu Sorcerers utilize the energy of those same Curses to exorcize them and defend humanity at large, undergoing training in Jujutsu High Schools. At the top of these sorcerers is the renowned and powerful Gojo family, with the latest in line being Satoru Gojo.

From his very birth, Satoru Gojo shifted the entire balance of the world, as his family was considered that which holds up its very foundation. Which, as a result, allowed him to be as laid back and selfish as he wanted, with everyone around him recognizing his status. As a student, he and his friend Geto were tasked with protecting a girl who would become the next vessel necessary for maintaining the barrier that would protect the academies of Jujutsu High. However, this mission would ultimately fail, with Gojo and Geto disagreeing on which way to protect humanity and the world. While Geto would leave the academy and decide humanity had to be put through hell in order to evolve and be able to stop curses, Gojo would stay as a teacher, using his eventual greater status and authority to actively defy any meddling from higher ups.

The student who would most notably catch his eye was Yuji Itadori, who, thanks to having eaten a finger, would become the vessel for one of the most powerful Curses in history, Sukuna. In Gojo’s eyes, educating Yuji was the key to resetting the system before them. While he was ordered to execute Yuji to prevent Sukuna’s revival, Gojo chose to train him, as not only could he be used as a radar to find the other remnants of Sukuna, but show that the current way of Jujutsu Society could be rebuilt into something better.

On the night of Halloween in Shibuya however, a group of curses led by Gojo’s former friend Geto (controlled by an ancient Sorcerer named Kenjaku) would coordinate an all-out attack to finally defeat him. Despite Gojo’s best efforts, they succeeded in sealing him by backing Gojo into a corner via taking advantage of his morals to prevent him from using his full power. This along with the major casualties of this attack being known as “The Shibuya Incident”.

This resulted in Gojo being banned from Jujutsu High, the unsealing of his prison being considered a crime punishable by execution, and all his decisions being overturned, including Yuji’s postponed execution. Despite this, his students would continue on with his lessons, and for Gojo, it may only be a matter of time, as the pillars of society were now thrown out of balance without him present.

Makima

“I wish to use the Chainsaw Man in order to create the better world. Consider… death, war, hunger. There are many things in this world that would increase happiness upon removal. And I will remove them all using Chainsaw Man’s Power.”

Like all of the Devils in the Chainsaw Man manga, Makima was born out of people's fear of a certain thing, in this case the fear of control. Raised by the Japanese government, Makima wanted nothing more than to form connections with others, having the desire to have a family. Through both her nature as the Control Devil, and the methodology of the government, Makima came to only be able to express her desire by causing fear, believing humanity at large to be below her like dogs.

She later became an important figure in Japanese security, more specifically one of the team leaders of Section 4 in the Public Safety Devil Hunters organization. Eventually, she would witness the legendary “Chainsaw Devil”, having devoured devils who embodied fears such as WWII, AIDS, and nuclear weapons, effectively erasing them from history. Inspired, Makima joined together with the “Four Horseman”, and pursued the Chainsaw Devil, believing he was the key to wiping out the world’s problems permanently, while also viewing him as the only one she could truly see as equal. In preparation for the inevitable return of her “hero”, Makima would gather Fiends who worshiped Chainsaw Devil, forcibly indoctrinate Devils like Angel, and even make a contract with the prime minister of Japan to ensure any harm that came to her would be redirected to the populace of the country instead.

On one of her missions to exterminate Devils, she found a newly transformed and uncontrolled Denji, who she brought to a new life as her personal pet. In doing this, Makima noticed that she had once and for all found the bearer of Pochita, aka the Chainsaw Devil. She would give him a better life, with a good home, food, a job, and a new family he never had, only to eventually take it all away in one fell swoop as all those he loved were killed thanks to her machinations. Completely broken, Denji’s mind receded as Pochita was reborn on Earth.

Having weakened Pochita by setting up Chainsaw Man to be a hero of the masses and lose the power he once held by fear, Makima would confront Denji in a final fight to the death, believing him to be an imitation of the real Chainsaw Man who didn’t deserve to be in control. In a moment of hubris, Makima had let her guard down. Denji, who she thought dead, was alive and ready to defeat her. Makima’s inability to bond with mankind had left her with a habit of identifying people through smell, a weakness Denji had exploited by using a copy of Pochita to fight her. Mortally wounded by the remnants of the Blood Fiend Power’s blood, Denji overcame her immortality with its only weakness: legitimate love. Still in love with Makima despite her vile torture, Denji became one with her by literally devouring her.

Makima would be reborn as a young girl named Nayuta, and would be sent to be raised by Denji. Unlike her prior life, Nayuta would be given nurture and care, and was finally free from the shackles of Control.

Equipment

Gojo

Blindfold

Worn by Gojo to protect his Six Eyes, as constant use of them will wear him out after too long. He doesn’t need his eyes to see, as he can always sense Cursed Energy and the objects surrounded by it. Also it just looks cool.

Makima

Devil Hunter Suit

Special suits that Public Safely Devil Hunters wear. Aside from letting her look extremely classy, they’re also stated to be extremely sturdy to allow for extra protection. Nomo’s suit, for example, allowed him to survive a point blank explosion that destroyed a building.

Sword

Makima sometimes uses a sword in combat. It is sharp enough to cut through Quanxi and two Fiends' necks with no difficulty.

Abilities

Gojo

Cursed Energy

Sorcerers like Gojo use a type of energy for their abilities, known as Cursed Energy. Cursed Energy is born from negative emotions like anger or sadness. As those are common feelings, almost all humans have it lingering inside their body. Humans above a certain level are able to see Cursed Energy and beings composed of it. Controlling one's emotions is essential for channeling cursed energy, and every jujutsu sorcerer has been taught how to do so.

Cursed Energy flows from the gut, and to the rest of the body. It can be used to reinforce the body, increasing strength, speed, and durability. Skilled enough sorcerers can restrict damage by controlling their energy, as shown by Todo focusing his energy in a singular spot to minimize harm from an attack. Experienced sorcerers such as Nanami can subconsciously protect their soul from Mahito's spiritual and biological attacks with their flow of cursed energy. The usage of Cursed Energy in combat is called Taijutsu.

Gojo is said to have reached the understanding of the Core of Cursed Energy. When someone who can manipulate Cursed Energy reaches a peak moment in combat or under pressure, they often have an epiphany wherein they grasp "the core" of Cursed Energy. Grasping the Core seems to ascend sorcerers to a higher plane of skill and understanding in Jujutsu, opening further pathways to reaching their greatest potential, as shown with Mahito.

Injuries caused by Cursed Energy cause people to become automatically cursed, which creates severe consequences for normal beings, such as extreme pain, weakening of the body, becoming ill, and eventually death. Cursed Energy also grants the ability to harm non-physical entities. Low-Grade Curses, which are capable of becoming intangible, are constantly exorcized by sorcerers.

Sorcerer Physiology

As previously alluded to, humans capable of using Cursed Energy for techniques called Jujutsu are classified as “Sorcerers”, and have various special physiological attributes. Sorcerers can see cursed spirits that are invisible to the human eye (cursed spirits do not appear on video capturing devices and the sounds they produce are also imperceptible to humans) and are resistant to the effects of Cursed Energy. Normal humans do not have this resistance.

The soul and body in Jujutsu Kaisen have a strange interplay with one another. The soul and the physical body are defined as being “illusory boundaries of a person's being that are both fundamentally information”. In essence they exist as one, being fundamental information made flesh. Gege even defines the body as being similar to a Domain (explained below). Examples proving this are:

Six Eyes

A unique ocular ability accessible only to the Gojo clan. Every few centuries, a bearer of these eyes will be born, and there can never be two bearers alive at once. These eyes can see through the target's Cursed Technique and detect Cursed Energy. Gojo’s eyes can see the mechanics of a technique, and grants the user the ability to view Cursed Energy in perfect detail even from kilometers away. Even covering his eyes, it is like he has high definition infrared vision. Even objects that have no Cursed Energy can be made out by the remnants of Cursed Energy or the flow of Cursed Energy around them.

More importantly, the Six Eyes allows for the Limitless curse technique to be perfected by granting vast processing ability to the brain, allowing for manipulation of Cursed Energy on an atomic level. This processing ability is so great, Gojo can perceive 3 years worth of information in his mind within less than a minute, and set his Limitless to work automatically. The final application of the eyes is that they keep the usage of Cursed Energy for abilities infinitesimally close to zero.

Binding Vows/Showing One's Cards

Bindings are the pledges and restrictions that you make with yourself and others. The punishment for breaking one is severe, and this is an important factor in Jujutsu Sorcery. Binding Vows are created through Cursed Energy that an individual can make with oneself or another person. In addition, disclosing a technique and restraining oneself are also a binding and bring about effects such as increasing Cursed Energy. One such example is called “Showing One's Cards”.

Many Jujutsu sorcerers will inform the enemy of their techniques before use in battle. While this seems counterintuitive at a glance, it can not only allow them to create a set of rules to restrict the enemy, they can also trick them by hiding certain aspects of their techniques or different applications to mislead their opponents. It can also strengthen the ability of the person’s techniques. Gojo has a habit of explaining the functions of Limitless to his opponents for this reason.

Jujutsu/Curse Technique

(Source of Image)

Jujutsu is the application of Cursed Energy into specific techniques. If Cursed Energy is the equivalent of electricity, Cursed Techniques are the household appliances that run on it. Although Cursed Energy can be employed as a blunt force or to reinforce the body, these are not considered Cursed Techniques. Instead, Cursed Techniques channel Cursed Energy into them to perform a specific function, bestowing a special power on the user. Cursed Techniques are something like a blueprint, a mold, or a formula. The caster pours CE into that mold, or builds the Technique using the blueprint. Innate Techniques are carved into the user's body at birth. Gojo’s technique is called Limitless.

Curse Technique: Limitless

The pride of the Gojo clan, Limitless is a Cursed Technique that manipulates space. As Gojo explains it, Infinity is naturally present everywhere, with Limitless bringing it into reality. Gojo does this by manipulating space-time on an atomic level with Cursed Energy. This brings about impossibilities that manifest as extensions of Limitless. Limitless has four different applications, explained in detail below.

Note: Gojo implies he has learned how to use multiple Reds and Blues at once.

Curse Technique: Infinity

The default application of Gojo’s ability, based on the paradox of Achilles and the Tortoise. It essentially slows down any object approaching Gojo more and more to an infinite degree, to the point where they stop and he becomes quite literally untouchable. The target for activating the effect of the Cursed Technique is automatically selected according to the mass of the approaching object and the degree of danger, as well as shape and Cursed Energy. Gojo has trained himself to use this technique automatically, and can even use it while physically fighting someone. Infinity is nearly always active, with Gojo refreshing his brain 24/7 using Reverse Cursed Technique. Even without brain refreshment, Gojo has been able to keep it in use for over a day without sleep.

Infinity gives opponents the impression that they are hitting the caster by altering their perception of space, when in reality they're not touching the caster at all.

Later comments on the functions of Infinity would also add that in the process of changing the distance between himself and his opponent, Gojo is technically creating an “infinite space”. Through the convergence of an infinite series, things or beings that approach Gojo do not just slow down, they stop entirely. Gojo can amplify the Infinity “barrier” to crush his opponents, slamming them with the created space, or shot as an invisible force.

The sheer power of Limitless is so great, that it can even function in the prison realm, where time literally does not flow.

While Limitless is automatic in function, Gojo is known to consistently use hand signs in conjunction with the Infinity ability during combat, similar to how he used to years back. This may be due to him holding back, as he only does this while keeping his blindfold on. Gojo also noted that despite the now automatic nature of Infinity, hand sign usage had been reduced to a minimum rather than outright reduced to zero. However, by removing his blindfold, Infinity is shown to be entirely passive, as it can block attacks Gojo is not aware of regardless of hand signs.

Gojo has noted in the past Infinity has difficulty with toxins. It is unknown if this is still the case.

Teleportation

Limitless users can also teleport, but only under certain conditions. A drawn magic circle can be used to teleport other people by the user for example. Gojo aimed to learn long distance teleportation, and eventually mastered using it even in combat with no need for drawn sigils. He used this in combat with Sukuna, using a clap to do so.

Levitation

Another ability born from Limitless, Gojo can float in midair as if weightless. He can levitate several meters into the air with no issue. He can also fight while in the air.

Cursed Technique Lapse: Blue

By strengthening the Limitless technique with negative power, it becomes the power to "attract" the target. Gojo describes the effect as “creating an absorbing reaction or magnetic effect”. This is due to the surrounding space correcting the impossibility of “negative space” created by Limitless, which generates the attraction. This force can crush limbs, slam two people hard enough to crush their heads, and collapse buildings. Gojo can also use Blue for high-speed movement/travel.

Maximum Cursed Energy Output: Blue

The highest output of Blue, this generates a field of attraction which Gojo can guide. It has enough power to demolish buildings and create trenches. It is usually used to clear large areas.

Cursed Technique Reversal: Red

The "repulsion force" that applies the positive power generated from Reverse Cursed Technique, pouring it into the Limitless Curse. It has twice the power of Blue, at the minimum. It manifests as a red sphere which fires as an explosive force, capable of destroying parts of a forest.

Cursed Technique: Hollow Purple

By colliding the opposing force of Red and Blue, Gojo generates an imaginary mass which is fired at the target. Gojo can fire a large version which can wreck an entire forest, or a small version that is much faster. The technique has been described as “Void”, in regards to the produced mass.

Hollow Purple can be interpreted as Gojo creating imaginary mass to convert whatever physical mass it touches into non-existence, similar to a matter and antimatter reaction or cancellation in mathematical terms. Purple is taking two infinite forces and combining them. Combining these forces would be like pushing an infinite force down to an infinitesimal point, allowing Purple to erase matter. It is not, however, proper existence erasure (see Before the Verdicts for more details).

Innate Domain

The "Innate Domain" is the space that we are born with, which can be called a "mental landscape" that embodies our heart/mind. This includes not only sorcerers, but also non-sorcerers. Domain Expansion is an Innate Domain imbued with a Cursed Technique, it is the act of embodying with Cursed Energy.

Innate Domains are just as spiritual as they are mental, as Sukuna was able to cross over and speak to Jogo’s spirit as he passed on. Likewise, after dying due to Sukuna's actions (who ripped his heart out of his body while in control), Yuji was able to enter Sukuna's Innate Domain. The two of them were able to converse and fight while Yuji's body was still dead. Sukuna was even able to use the Reverse Cursed Technique on Yuji while in his Innate Domain to regenerate his heart and revive him.

Gojo’s Innate Domain is the Limitless itself, meaning it is likely meant to be an abstraction of Infinity. This manifests into the world as Unlimited Void.

Domain Mechanics

The ultimate technique of any Jujutsu Sorcerer is the Domain Expansion, releasing their cursed energy to create a barrier and separate dimension that will ensure any attack they land cannot be avoided. The user manifests his Innate Domain using Cursed Energy and imbues it with a sure-hit sure-kill. Domains can empower the user’s technique to at least 120%.

Domain Expansion involves realizing one's Innate Domain with skill and imagination which is described as "inside the heart".

This is the appearance of the dimension from the outside. The edge of a barrier can be shifted to remove an opponent, and as mentioned prior attacks in Domains will always hit the target. Domains also enhance the power of the techniques of the user, and nullify the Cursed Techniques of those dragged into the domain, at least initially. Domains can be countered via activating another Domain, or by techniques that nullify, such as Simple Domain.

Escaping a Domain surrounded by a barrier is almost impossible, since the cubic volume inside is different from the cubic volume outside, making it extremely difficult to find the boundaries of the Domain while inside, especially while trying to survive the sure-hit sure-kill technique. However, the more the barrier is reinforced from the inside, the more vulnerable it is to penetration from the outside.

While most Jujutsu Sorcerers expend a wide amount of Cursed Energy to perform this technique, Gojo’s Six Eyes give him a far greater well of energy, enabling him to use it multiple times in a single day, potentially even to the point of essentially spamming it at will. For normal sorcerers, using a Domain can leave their ability unstable for a while, though this doesn't seem to apply to Gojo.

Unlimited Void

In Gojo’s case, this is Unlimited Void, in which the target is given a stream of infinite information, overwhelming their minds and reducing them to a vegetable. This can be lifted at will, in case the target needs to be interrogated or let go. Non-Cursed Energy users can also survive for 0.2 seconds within the Domain without any harmful effects (though they still needed two months of rehabilitation), which has been exploited by Gojo to avoid harming a crowd of innocent bystanders. Gojo can choose who is affected by his Domain, as shown when he and Yuji were not affected by being in it.

Databooks do indeed confirm it is literally infinite information the target is exposed to, on all activities based on perception and transmission/communication. Every action involved in living is forcibly carried out an infinite number of times. It could even be said the Domain injects the target with “multiple” infinities worth of information in this way. Gege shows this in an example that seeing an apple would also make you think infinitely of “A”, the first letter of Apple. This would apply to literally all aspects of the apple, the word, the shape, the color, etc., and would also apply to all other actions being viewed in the Void.

Gojo’s 0.2 variation of the Domain might be faster than its normal activation, as when the timing was later replicated by Mahito it allowed to outspeed Sukuna’s effect on him from using his Domain. Gojo being able to change the time duration of the ability also shows he can edit the time-frame at will.

Domain Amplification

The act of expanding a Domain thinly, like a film, over one’s own body is called Domain Amplification. When Domain Amplification is activated, it can neutralize the sure-hit effects of a Domain Expansion

It can also neutralize the technique of any target that is touched, and increases the strength and durability of the user. The only limitation of the technique is that while active, the user cannot activate their own technique. Amplification can be countered by increasing the power of the technique it is opposing if the target is stronger than the caster. The user can imbue their Amplification with their own "sure-hit sure-kill" Cursed Technique, though doing so would weaken the Cursed Technique neutralization effect.

While Gojo has not used this ability himself, he knows of it and all of its functions. As the strongest Sorcerer of the modern era, he most likely can use it given he is stated he can do anything he tries to, and has knowledge of all basic Jujutsu abilities which includes amplification. Gojo even noted the Curses who used it on him must have been taught it by a Curse user, showing a deep understanding of the ability.

Reverse Cursed Technique

The act of converting Negative Cursed Energy into positive energy. This energy can be used to heal the body, and even to heal others. Gojo was able to heal himself after being impaled in the throat, chest, legs, and head after coming to understand the core of cursed energy, reviving from a near dead state. Gojo currently keeps reverse curse technique going 24/7 to repeatedly refresh his brain from overuse of Limitless.

Considering Gojo barely uses any Cursed Energy for any technique, including this one, he may be able to replicate his former student Kinji Hakari’s subconscious usage of it. Hakari’s reverse curse is granted by his domain, which allows him to regenerate severed limbs and even large portions of his torso being blasted off. Hakiri can even heal minor damage to his brain, though this level of healing may be exclusive due his absurd quantity of Cursed Energy gifted by his Domain

While Gojo has not shown the direct potency of Hakari’s healing, or Yuta’s level of mastery with reverse curse technique, he has shown a unique application of it neither possess. Gojo can feed positive energy into Cursed Techniques, and thus reverse them. This is how the technique Red is born.

The Cursed Energy multiplication table below represents how a reverse cursed technique creates positive energy from negative energy:

Negative x Negative = Positive

Cursed Energy (-) x Cursed Energy (-) = Positive Energy (+)

Reverse Curse Technique’s ultimate weakness is that it stems from the brain. The destruction of the brain will kill a reverse curse user regardless of level of mastery, and Reverse Curse Technique has difficulty removing toxins from the body. Only high level masters can remove toxins using this ability.

Black Flash

An attack in which a user’s physical strike is greatly enhanced when Cursed Energy is applied to it within one-millionth of a second that creates a spatial distortion. This technique requires extreme focus, and no Jujutsu Sorcerer, even Gojo, is capable of using it at will, though he has experienced it before.

Using Black Flash consecutively isn't amazing. Using it more than twice, it would be difficult to do consecutively or on the same day. And it doesn't matter if the first time was done out of pure luck or skill. When successfully using Black Flash, Jujutsu Sorcerers are in a zone similar to what athletes experience. The typical thought process of manipulating cursed energy becomes like breathing. This leads to a greatly increased performance in combat, allowing the user to operate at 120% of their maximum potential.

Curtain

In order to maintain the peace of mind of non-Sorcerers, a Sorcerer works under the premise of concealing threats and deploys a curtain, a jet-black barrier which exposes Curses and is invisible to non-Sorcerers. Radio waves may be blocked as a side effect. The Sorcerer can also sense when the curtain is damaged. By imposing conditions, the curtain can also include additional effects. For example, specific individuals can be chosen as a target that cannot enter a curtain, such as "anyone can enter the Barrier at the cost of Gojo Satoru being barred entry". This usually can only be applied to beings with Cursed Energy, and the stronger the resistance inside the curtain, the weaker the resistance is to outside intrusion. This also usually required preparation time with a talisman.

Gojo has made curtains before when training Yuta, by saying the following phrase: "Emerge from the darkness, blacker than darkness. Purify that which is impure."

Resistances

Makima

Devil Physiology

Devils in Chainsaw Man are the embodiment of fear of certain concepts, defined by their name, through the collective unconsciousness of mankind. The more the namesake of a Devil becomes feared, the more powerful they become. They can also lose power should they become unfeared. In Makima’s case, she’s the representation of control. She has superhuman strength, speed, and durability. All Devils share the following general traits:

Enhanced Senses

Being a Devil grants Makima senses that are outright absurd. She can see Pochita’s actions while he is in space, and she is on Earth. She can see the Gun Devil in perfect detail from 500 kilometers away, and listen in on Reze and Denji's conversation in the middle of a thunderstorm. Kishibe noted that Makima could hear his conversation despite being kilometers away from his current location. She can sniff out the difference between a human and Devil, and identifies all humans via smell. She also was able to hear Denji’s contract with Pochita, despite it being within Denji’s mind. She can further extend her sight and hearing via controlling animals around the planet. She can even converse with the Spider Devil when the latter was in Hell, a separate dimension, while Makima herself was on Earth.

She can also retain information of events that have been literally erased from history by the Chainsaw Devil, such as World War III, AIDS, etc, even though no one else on the planet recalls these events ever occurring.

Control Devil Powers

As the Control Devil, Makima can control any lifeform she sees as inferior to herself. This extends to humans, Devils, Hybrids, and even animals like rats and birds. Makima’s usual method is to order individuals to make a contract with her, forever locking them into servitude. Makima can erase the memories of those she commands, and even rewrite their personalities entirely to serve her “willingly”. She can summon anyone she contracted with to herself, even if they are currently deceased, and use their abilities for herself. She can use these abilities in tandem with one another, and can even use controlled animals to hear and see in different places in the world. Some examples of her usage of Control are:

Her control can be fought off to a degree via raw willpower, but she has quickly undone this by issuing another command.

Controlled Minions

Makima over the years has gathered a large quantity of controlled minions from humans to Fiends to even other devils. They will be listed here alongside their abilities, alongside examples of Makima using said powers. The only minion confirmed to have been freed from contract is Power, via Pochita’s blood.

Devil Hunters / Mold Devil and Stone Devil

Makima has taken most Devil Hunters under her contract and drags them with the chains, which includes some decently powerful devils.

Yutaro Kurose and Michiko Tendo / Punishment Devil

Yutaro and Michiko contracted with Makima, allowing her to use the Punishment Devil, a combat-oriented devil with multiple weapons.

Aki Hayakawa / Fox Devil, Future Devil, and Curse Devil

Being one of Makima’s most loyal servants, Aki Hayakawa has contracted with around three devils across the story, the Fox Devil, the Future Devil and the Curse Devil. Aki also wields a sword made by the Angel Devil, which can even cut through ghosts and intangible beings.

Akane Sawatari / Snake Devil

Makima has contracted with Akane, allowing her to use the Snake Devil.

Spider Devil

The Spider Devil is one of Makima’s most loyal minions, the Devil that embodies fears towards spiders.

Angel Devil

A Devil that can steal life force and convert it into weapons. After having controlled him in the past, erasing the memories of a previous life, Angel contracted with Makima and was under her rule until the very end.

Zombie Devil

Having been defeated by Denji very early on, Makima took control of it. The Zombie Devil embodies the fear of Zombies.

Mantis Devil

A Devil which embodies the fear of mantises, controlled by two Public Safety Devil Hunters that contracted with Makima.

Shark Fiend/Devil

Beam, or the Shark Fiend, was contracted by Makima in order to stay at Chainsaw Man’s side.

Violence Fiend

Galgali is one of Makima’s most loyal followers. Embodying Violence, it is one of the best hand-to-hand fighters in the series.

Weapon Hybrids

A tactical team made by Makima from Hybrids, with the intent to use them to defeat the Chainsaw Devil. Makima has brainwashed all seven of them and rewritten their personalities to be smitten with her. Hybrids function differently from Devils and Fiends, as they survive even as severed heads and flesh pieces, so long as the Devil they are bonded with is intact. Even a small amount of blood is enough to regenerate a Hybrid's entire body if consumed. The Hybrids Makima has collected all represent weapons, such as crossbows and bombs.

Reze / Bomb Hybrid

An assassin sent by the USSR to kill Denji and claim Pochita’s heart, she was defeated by Denji after a massive battle. She opened up to Denji, but was killed by Makima before anything else could occur. She was later revived by Makima and brainwashed into serving her.

Reze is the Bomb Hybrid, with the ability to turn any part of her body into bombs and make explosions after pulling the pin on her choker. She can toss her head as a bomb, use explosions to propel herself through the air for pseudo-flight, and wreck entire buildings with her blasts. Beyond the healing of Hybrids from blood consumption, Reze has very potent regenerative abilities gifted by her transformed state. By transforming, she can regrow a severed head, and limbs. She also carries a knife in her human form for assassinations.

Quanxi / Crossbow Hybrid

The first Devil Hunter of Modern Japan and China, Quanxi is one of the best fighters in the entire series. Just in her human state, she can overpower and outskill trained martial artists like Kishibe and Yoshida, and move fast enough to cross dozens of meters before several Devil hunters could react, even cutting off their heads without them realizing it. She usually has at least three swords on her at all times.

In her Hybrid form, she can launch several arrows at once, each strong enough to blow the Darkness-enhanced Doll Devil to pieces, and critically injure Denji. She can easily clear entire crowds, and her speed is enhanced. Her durability increases to the point she can block attacks from Denji that chopped the Flamethrower Hybrid in half.

Quanxi was eventually killed by Makima, who revived and rewrote her personality to serve her. Quanxi can even regenerate from being a severed head if given blood, or if the arrow in her eye is removed.

Katana Man / Katana Hybrid

The grandson of a Yakuza boss who just so happens to be a Devil Hybrid. As per usual, he possesses the usual Hybrid physiology, only having katanas for his arms and head, and can transform/be revived by pulling off his hand. He’s strong and fast enough to contend with both the Ghost Devil (which normally is intangible) and Denji. Carries a handgun on him as well.

Flamethrower Hybrid

A man controlled by Makima that can become the Flamethrower Hybird or be revived by clicking one his top teeth. He uses his flamethrower arms to generate large volleys of flames to burn his enemies. His flames can consume parts of buildings and entire crowds of people

Spear Hybrid

A man controlled by Makima. He can generate spears capable of piercing Denji and even Pochita, despite being weaker physically than both. Transformed/revived via pulling a spear out of his spinal colon.

Longsword Hybrid

A young man controlled by Makima. He uses the blades on his arm and heads for slashing attacks. Can be transformed/revived by pulling off his hand similar to Katana Man.

Whip Hybrid

A woman controlled by Makima. She can attack using whips on her arms, and is quite agile. Is able to transform/revive by snapping her fingers

Gun Devil

The Gun Devil is the embodiment of humanity's fear of guns. The original version appeared 13 years prior to the story taking place, and killed over a million people across the globe in five minutes. It disappeared, seemingly having been defeated. In reality, the Gun Devil broke apart into pieces, with different nations collecting portions of it. The president of the United States would send a 20% version to fight Makima, who defeated it.

Makima should have access to the portions owned by Japan, and was implied to be the reason Aki became the Gun Fiend, having been sent to fight Denji.

Abilities pertaining to the 20% version Makima would have control over:

The Gun Devil is even strong enough to kill Makima with a headshot, though she revived herself.

Gun Fiend

When Makima defeated the Gun Devil, portions of it entered the Body of Aki Hayakawa, turning him into the Gun Fiend. Seemingly sent by Makima to fight Denji, Aki battled his best friend while envisioning it as a snowball fight. He was eventually killed by Denji, and finally freed from the deeds of Makima. The Gun Fiend is strong enough to level entire streets with its bullets, and is durable enough to block attacks from Denji’s blades.

Possible Contracts

Oddly, Makima is shown to have collected Devils that should have died and reincarnated, such as the Zombie Devil. It's implied she was behind the multiple Devils attacking Denji throughout the course of the story, minus Santa Claus and the Darkness Devil. This should include the Eternity Devil, who was specifically after the Chainsaw Devil, and potentially Quanxi’s Fiends considering Makima killed them alongside Quanxi and later resurrected her. While Fiends generally die if killed (Aki as the Gun Fiend for example), Makima has shown the ability to even control deceased humans, Fiends, and Devils. Makima has not been shown to objectively have them at hand, therefore they are listed only as “possibly”.

Quanxi’s Fiends

Quanxi’s Fiends are a group consisting of four Fiends who are Quanxi’s lovers and serve her.

Pingtsi

Pingtsi can determine what Devils a person is contracted to, the Devil’s abilities, and even the condition of a body just by looking at them. She also has knowledge on Hell and the primal Devils that inhabit it.

Long

Long can breathe flames, block bullets with her arms, and is strong enough to beat Denji in his human state in a fight.

Tsugihagi

Tsugihagi’s abilities are unknown at this time, though she is the fiend most devoted to restoring Quanxi should she fall in battle.

Cosmos

One of Quanxi’s Fiends; being the fiend of the cosmos. Despite how she acts on the outside, with a simple utterance of the word: 'Halloween' she can bring people inside her own mental space and force them to understand everything in the universe, essentially turning them into vegetables that are unable to think about anything aside from Halloween. This ability was powerful enough to affect Santa Claus, who had enough dolls to transfer damage to all over the world, so that a single attack would be like “trying to dry the ocean with a single drop of blood”.

Eternity Devil

The Devil that embodies that concept of eternity, and what better way to represent that with a giant lump of flesh, and an ever-looping pocket dimension (being his stomach) that’s cut off from the outside, in which time is completely frozen! Essentially creating a localized time loop. The only way to escape would be the destruction of its heart, but it doesn’t help that its heart is on the outside and it has the ability to increase its size over time from fear, to the point where it’s able to change the direction of gravity. Denji was able to escape by exploiting the Devil's distaste for pain, torturing it for around three days until it begged for euthanasia.

Hell Devil

The Devil that embodies the fear of Hell. It can be contracted to send Humans or Devils to Hell, via manifesting a giant hand that rips into reality, transporting the target there. It can even fully manifest if given enough sacrifices by the contractor. Should it be killed, blood consumption will revive it. Hell is full of the strongest Devils, like the primordial Darkness Devil, and normally cannot be escaped without a Hell Devil contract. While Makima has not shown to have contracted the Hell Devil, Devil Hunters in the Public Safety Division have, and Makima can simply sacrifice them to contract it.

Animal Transformation

Country mice or town mice? Well it doesn’t matter, since Makima can not only control both of those, but also turn herself into a pack of rats to sneak up on those unsuspecting.

Damage Transfer / Immortality Contract

After contracting with the prime minister of Japan, Makima gained an ability to send any attack and damage to a random citizen from Japan in the form of sickness. It’s efficient to the point that she's able to fist-fight Denji even while being torn apart at the same time. She can also directly send any physical damage she has taken to anyone contracted with her. Since Chainsaw Man takes place in 1997, in order to fully kill Makima, one must kill her over 121 million times, as that was the population of Japan at that time. She can also use this play dead, putting her opponents in a false sense of security, and then attacking when they least expect it.

Biological Manipulation

Makima is able to manipulate human biology in numerous ways; from making someone's insides bleed with a simple stare, to being able to create a halo out of her own brain tissue (gross). She can use this halo to transport weapons to herself, or even Devils to far distances. This might be an extension of Control, as she can also manipulate dead bodies.

Levitation

Makima is able to tower above those who she believes to be below her, both literally and figuratively with her ability to float.

Bang: Concussive Force / Telekinesis

By using her own force of Control, she can shoot people with her fingers or kill them with a look. This can manifest as either direct concussive force, or a strange grasp akin to telekinesis. Bang is strong enough to harm both the Darkness Devil and Chainsaw Devil, both which surpass Makima’s own physical power. Bang can cross hundreds of kilometers, as it is shown manifesting in space.

Death Ritual

Once arriving at a location of high altitude, Makima can perform a ritual. In order for it to proceed, she utilizes the name of her target and a human sacrifice whose eyes have been blindfolded to say the name of the designated person. Once the prerequisites have been fulfilled, the sacrifice dies and the target is subsequently crushed, leaving only their bloody remains behind.

Gojo

"Have a good night Gojo Satoru. Let's meet again in the new world."

Gojo was sealed away after being manipulated into fighting several Curses with multiple citizens nearby, forcing him to hold back to a degree. He was then sealed after being shocked from seeing his supposedly dead friend alive, allowing him to be caught off guard.

He is so powerful, he is overconfident at times in battle. He is willing to turn off Limitless to test his opponent’s abilities, shown with Jogo’s bug bombs. Gojo prefers to fight entirely alone, and is hampered by having others assist him. He will hold back in fights if innocent civilians are at risk from the crossfire.  His insane processing ability can also be turned against him by using things related to his past against him. Kenjaku used Geto’s body, who Gojo believed was dead, and the shock caused him to relieve the last three years of his life in his mind, stunning him long enough to be sealed. Significant damage to the brain or toxins can impair his reverse curse healing.

He has also shown to be affected by Hanami’s flower curse, albeit briefly, which removes the opponents will to fight. Limitless can be neutralized by power nullification techniques such as other Domains, simple Domains and the inverted spear of heaven, a knife with nullifying abilities. Reality warping is also noted to be the perfect counter against Limitless. Lastly, Gojo uses hand signs for Limitless when using his blindfold, only dropping the need for them when going all out.

Makima

“All I gotta do is…. Become one with you…. Bon Appetit!”

Despite her immense set of abilities and incredibly good regeneration, Makima met her end by hands of Denji due to a highly elaborate plan. Taking advantage of the scent of her beloved Chainsaw Devil in battle, Denji realized he had never been any significant to her, catching her off guard with this trick due to not sensing his real smell, damaging her, cutting to pieces and devouring her. In other words, Makima can be tricked with smell, as she mainly identifies targets via scent. Her contract can be bypassed by attacking with her with zero killing intent, as in Denji’s mind, his attack on her was an act of pure love to become one with her. Her regeneration can be slowed down by a constant attack on her body, as Denji lets Power’s blood run wild inside of Makima, wrecking her insides for minutes on end. This may have been due to Denji being the one enacting the attack, thus the loophole.

It is also unknown if her contract would be able to restore her body if completely destroyed. At most it's shown restoring her after she was chopped into small pieces. Her immortality does not protect her from spiritual attacks. Her precognition can only see a few seconds ahead, so it's not really perfect. It also requires the Future Devil to be within her, so if it's killed, her precognition will be lost. Due to her immortality, Makima also has a habit of allowing attacks to hit her regardless of any consequences since she’ll recover from them anyway, so oftentimes she won’t be concerned about getting hit repeatedly with fatal wounds.

Before the Verdicts

Jujutsu Kaisen Speed

Note: This part will be a bit long, as we want to cover a bit of recent controversy on speed in JJK.

As of recent within the Jujutsu Kaisen manga, there seems to be a narrative push for verse being at most supersonic. Projection magic was introduced which is Naoya's Cursed Technique that lets him track movement at 1/24 seconds each. This means that his regular reactions are inferior. This means that his speed is inferior when he's shown to not cover large distances in those time frames. Yuji calls him fast. His speed (it's his peak speed) is stated to be supersonic, and the context implies that everything else he's done isn't supersonic. Naoya and his father Naobito are speed top tiers, with Naobito being “known as the fastest sorcerer” besides Gojo.

As of recently, he became a Curse and blitzed Maki after reaching a top speed of Mach 3. Kenjaku has also stated guns are an effective weapon against Sorcerers. So what gives? Is the verse actually slower than described above?

It is indeed true Gege is placing a cap on speed for most of the verse. However, this proposed narrative intent needs to be examined further. For example, less than 10 chapters prior to the mach 3 statement, Gege introduced a character named Kashimo, who fought a former student of Jujutsu High named Kinji Hakari. Kashimo’s whole deal is stated he can manifest actual lightning from his cursed energy, lightning that was painstakingly made practically 1-to-1 with IRL lightning by Gege. Gege even went out and recruited the science advisor for the Dr. Stone manga to get all the information correct for this ability. The lightning is also noted to be very fast, so much so it matches the Sure Hit feature of Domains without needing one active. Hakari reacts twice to this lightning, with even the lowest value possible (Mach 1.6 for an actual test of electricity in mid air) gets Hakari’s reaction of moving his head to save himself to Mach 11. It does tag his arm, but you can note his knee is more bent and it missed his face, showing he moved a bit away from it. This remains consistent as Hakari pulls off a similar feat right after. He then goes on to get faster, with his Domain Bonus. Gojo would scale as the fastest sorcerer.

This is not just arguing a calc over narrative intent. Gege went as far as to get the scientific advisor for the Dr. Stone manga to explain the properties of the lightning correctly (ch 188-189), and directly inserted narrative text boxes describing the lightning to be actual lightning and also bringing up the information regarding the charge of it. Gege has also depicted several feats that contradict mach 3 being the absolute high-end of the verse (refer to Gojo’s speed feat section). While Piercing Blood does in fact drop in speed after it's fired, it starts faster than sound.

To give the benefit of the doubt, if it slows down after it’s been fired, there is no known rate of how fast it decelerates, which leads to only assumptions. Even if you assume it to be half the speed of sound (171.5 m/s) or even 1/10 of sound (34.3 m/s), this would still result in supersonic reactions from Yuji. Yuji would also have supersonic perception, via seeing it initially being faster than sound.

Projection Jujutsu is regarded as a solid speed anti-feat for the verse. Naobito's Projection Sorcery of covering melee distances in 1/24 seconds. Projection Sorcery isn't an anti-feat however, as everyone that sees PS notes that it's not just speed, but “something else” which we know is the FPS aspect. So it's expected to blitz people who are off guard. Even Maki was getting blitzed by it at first even when she could react to that speed. She had to get the specific timing of the technique to counter.

That and a weaker 4 Finger Shibuya arc Yuji could 'anime speed vanish' blitz relative to the Supersonic Piercing Blood, so in terms of reactions he can see supersonic attacks, and in short burst movements he can 'blitz' them to a higher degree than Hakari dodged the lightning. Weaker 4 Finger Yuji could also keep up with FRSS Choso in terms of combat speed, and while Choso's reactions were lower due to not focusing on his eyes, his combat speed was still somewhat relative to Naoya.

Gojo is also mostly narratively immune from lower end statements, as he is the fastest sorcerer, even above Naobito. Gojo scales to 15 finger Sukuna’s mach 15 travel speed feat. Gojo is confident he can fight 20 Finger Sukuna, and is just as fast as Yuta. Yuji firmly believes Yuta could fight 15 Finger Sukuna and hold his own.

Gojo himself dodges an explosion. It has to be faster than sound because it's a shockwave at close range. Using just the speed of sound as a minimum, calc wise the feat gets over Mach 50. Gojo is moving in tandem here, not before the bugs detonate, as shown in the anime. He is not clasping his hands here, so he isn't using teleportation, and the scene is framed like his later feat of outpacing his own Red attack on Jogo. Gojo also is not narratively restricted by Naoya, so this is not an outlier.

The last thing that needs to be brought is Maki’s bullet feat. Directly pixel scaled with some assumptions, it can get somewhere past mach 10. The absolute lowest calculation for it, done with the lowest amount of assumptions possible, gets subsonic results. Problem with the calc is the bullet speed as it mentions it uses 60 m/s of riot gun 37-mm M201-Z, which for the record looks like this. It's like firing a sniper but using BB gun bullet speeds, it is not comparable. While using the 220 m/s speeds which are more accurate would give:

Method 1:

3.50633/220=0.01593786363

0.86515/0.01593786363= 54.2826830549 Subsonic

Method 2:

0.047/220=0.00021363636

Moving head down speed: 0.12887/0.00021363636= 603.221286863 (Mach 1.7) Supersonic

Moving head to the side speed: 0.074143/0.00021363636= 347.052346333 (Mach 1.01) Supersonic

Hollow Purple Existence Erasure

To put it simply, Hollow Purple is not existence erasure. When used on Hanami, it kicks up small pieces of rubble, and leaves a bloody wound on Hanami showing the ribcage. It is very much a power attack, not erasure. It also shows blood when used to kill Toji. It does delete matter though (see Gojo’s ability section).

To address the void statements from the Jump Giga interview:

The “void” formula ("虚"式) is emphasized because in Japanese, the "Hollow Technique" part of the Hollow Technique: Purple is 虚式 (kyoshiki)... which is exactly what we see here translated as “void” formula. So, yeah 虚 (kyo) can mean emptiness, void, unpreparedness, crack, fissure, untruth. Viz chose to translate it as "hollow", which isn't wrong per se. As explained here, they ultimately weren't even able to make any conclusion regarding Purple because of the conflict between the Minkowski metric and the previous conclusion on Red and Blue since Purple = Red + Blue, creating confusion. As such, there is no confirmation for it being EE or void manipulation.

Maximum Meteor

While there are calcs scaling Maximum Meteor to city level from its shown impact, most of these calcs use an inconsistent shot of the meteor, resulting in inflated sizes that don't make any sense. In particular, it would make a building right next to it as large as the Empire State Building. We have chosen to use more consistent visuals for the meteor for the lower-end value for it. Likewise, using ablation speed for the meteor does not line up, as all of Jogo's attacks are on fire and Sukuna had enough time to keep people standing still on a countdown before it hits the ground

Domain Scaling

Whether or not characters in Jujutsu Kaisen can scale physically to the energy spent to construct Domains has always been a bit of a contentious topic. To keep things short for this, it is likely. Sorcerers and Curses spend large amounts of Cursed Energy to construct Domains, as explained by Gojo, and the Domains tend to be physical. Cursed Energy directly scales to the body's physicality. While most users can only use it once due to energy consumption, Gojo can spam him as his eyes keep his energy waste at minimum.

Gojo has clean scaling to Jogo’s Domain, as not only did his own over power Jogo’s, he later beat Jogo near death while Jogo was amped by Domain Amplification (which is like wearing your Domain) with nothing but his bare fists. Gojo also broke Jogo’s Maximum Meteor with his bare hands (no Limitless), and Maximums are the strongest technique one can do besides Domain. It is fair to say Gojo scales to Jogo’s entire energy pool.

One final thing to address is Domains supposedly being smaller than they are visually presented, usually argued with Dagon’s Domain. The argument is taking this as a literal map of the Domain, and arguing the following:

Megumi appeared in the shallow water close to the beach, and he literally touched the edge/barrier of the Domain Expansion, despite all the stuff in the background behind him.

Dagon is standing on the beach close to the shore, and he is still close to the edge on the opposite side according to the map. That is an exceptionally small cubic volume compared to the background.

This argument falls apart once you consider:

  1. This scan shows that the water can still be manipulated by Megumi, although the same water is behind his feet. So the "edge" of the pocket dimension is not the end.

  2. When Megumi goes to create the hole in the pocket dimension, we see that the sea is not deep. But this is not consistent. Many times the sea is shown to be deep, with corals. Megumi in this scan only creates a portal and "nullifies" the space of the dimension.

  3. The statement only diminishes the size of the sea. But the size of the island still does not contradict it.

  4. Characters are thrown to the other side of the island, showing the island is fully sized and real.

  5. The map is not literal in scale.

MHS+ Makima

Keeping this short, Makima being above hypersonic has a bit of controversy to it due to Denji being able to keep with her, alongside being tagged by Gun Devil’s bullet. Both are dealt with rather easily: She did not fight Denji, she fought Pochita taking Denji’s form. While weaker than his Devil form, this Pochita was still notably above Denji’s usual output, as he was able to beat 7 Hybrids before expiring including Quanxi, whereas Denji consistently has trouble with just 1.

As for the Gun Devil, Makima was still shown to have perceived the bullet as it came to her and activated her ability. Makima is notorious for allowing attacks to hit her, as she has no reason to dodge given her immortality. She then proceeded to defeat the Gun Devil.

Makima’ bang blasts come out to a bit over Mach 100, so that works as supporting evidence. Lastly, she kept up in arm movement with the Darkness Devil, who is stated to be above any Gun Devil (20%, 100%, etc).

Typhoon Devil’s Storm

Makima’s 10 kiloton strength value comes from the rain storm made by the Typhoon Devil. Storm calcs can be contentious, so to quickly explain why the production of the storm is being scaled to Typhoon’s physicality here is a breakdown. The power of a Devil both pertains to what they represent and how much it is feared. Feared directly correlates to how physically strong, fast, and durable a Devil is, as shown with Makima weakening the Chainsaw Devil by making it less feared. Devils use their power to make force/energy/constructs, such as the Bat Devil’s screech attacks that level buildings. In this case the Typhoon Devil is outputting power to make a storm that by its physiology, has to correlate to its physicality. Denji killed it, and Makima is relative to weakened Pochita who is stronger than Denji.

Is Bang supposed to be Telekinesis?

No. 99% of the time, Bang is depicted as a concussive force, leaving craters in walls, ramming into Pochita to send him into space, or blowing a hole in Makima’s own hand like an invisible bullet.

Cursed Energy vs Devils

To address this quickly, beyond verse equalization, JJK and CSM’s power systems are very similar. Both gain boosts from negative emotions (for Cursed Energy and for Devils), and contracts/binding vows are very close in function and consequences. They are not 1-to-1, but are close enough.

Unlimited Void vs Cosmos

Both Gojo and Makima have access to information dumps (though Makima’s access to Cosmos is potential, not objective). The difference is the Cosmos Fiend represents fear of the Cosmos/Universe and thus has all knowledge of the Universe. Unlimited Void is multiple sets of infinite information enforced on a target (See Unlimited Void section). At best they are equal, at worst Gojo is sending in more information due to it being multiple sets. Gojo also likely resists Cosmos via his Innate Domain (refer to his Resistances section).

Makima possibly has a counter to Unlimited Void (how her contract interacts with it will be discussed in verdicts). The argument is as follows:

Cosmos has shown to be able to info dump people just by speaking. When Makima appeared before Quanxi to kill her, Cosmos was agitated and said “Halloween!”. While it cannot be proven directly that Cosmos attempted to info dump Makima here, it would be believable narratively. Makima is somehow able to remember hundreds of years of events that have been cosmically retconned by the Chainsaw Devil eating the Devils representing those events. She most likely knows what the Cosmos Fiend does and yet the only thing she doesn't see as superior to herself is the Chainsaw Devil.

That said, her supposed resistance cannot be proven. Only Gojo’s proposed resistance has water, given the nature of his Innate Domain. Cosmos most likely would have to directly deal with Gojo's own mindscape in order to overload him with information, and his mindscape exists as a higher level of info compared to hers.

Would Makima’s contract kill Gojo?

Gojo is a Japanese citizen. While he is not from Chainsaw Man, under verse equalization he would be vulnerable to Makima’s contract. So the chances of suicide per murder attempt can be calculated by this equation:

1 - the continued chance of survival, which constantly multiplies downward as the population dwindles, to get the chance of death.

As Chainsaw Man takes place in 1997, the population of Japan at the time was about 126.1 million.

By plotting out points from the above equation across multiple murder attempts, we find the relation to be linear, barring other factors such as natural mortality and birthrates.

(Credit to Time for the graph)

This graph shows the relation, with the x-axis being millions of murder attempts and the y-axis being the chance of Gojocide by percentage.

In other words, you can literally just calculate his chance of survival using y = (100/126.1·10⁶)x

The chance of Gojocide rises by approximately 0.000000793% each time he attacks Makima, barring external factors affecting the Japanese population.

Using the Japanese population from when Jujutsu Kaisen takes place wouldn't affect much. The Japanese population in 2017 (when Yuji first entered the story proper) is only 0.7 mil higher.

Which lowers Gojocide chances to a whopping 0.000000789% per Makima death. In other words, Gojo’s chances of dying by contract are basically non-existent, at least not unless Gojo kills Makima millions of times.

Can Makima control Gojo?

The million dollar question. In theory, yes Makima can control Gojo. Gojo has shown himself to be vulnerable to will-affecting abilities like Hanami’s flower circle, which removes the will to fight. Gojo is seemingly only affected for a second, but this is most likely due to Hanami leaving the area, and the flower circle deactivating. Makima’s control can be briefly fought via raw willpower as shown by Angel (Power resisted via having Pochita’s blood), which Gojo has in abundance. The issue is that another command can overcome this, or just wiping the person’s memories, another thing Makima can do and something Gojo has no proven resistance to. Gojo’s resistance to spiritual attacks won't save him here, as Control is mental and not spiritual.

The actual issue is would she control him.

Satoru Gojo is unique. He is the first holder of the six eyes in several generations, the one who brings "Infinity" into reality. The strongest Jujutsu sorcerer of the modern era and a person so powerful, his best friend Geto truly believes Gojo could easily kill nearly all of humanity pretty casually. Aloof, proud, and in his own words "The Lone Honored One Throughout The Heavens and Earth", Gojo's very birth literally shifted the structure of society on a global scale.

Jujutsu society rotates around Gojo. When he was but a small child, his mere sight traumatized seasoned sorcerer assassins who had no morals left. The sudden removal of Gojo is theorized to be able to collapse Japan's society and potentially even beyond that. Gojo’s birth and existence is so significant that the power and numbers of Curses exploded in response, kind of like how a runner breaking a record will prompt many more to try and break the new record. Curses are created when Cursed Energy leaks from humans as a result of their human emotion, meaning Gojo also passively was affecting society’s negativity as a whole just from being born. He did this without using any of his own Curse Energy, as sorcerers themselves don't make Curses, only just via existing on the planet. Gojo is hyped up as a being who could near-effortlessly kill everyone in Japan if he wanted, and even everyone on the entire planet.

Makima is the Control Devil. All beings she sees as beneath her are locked under her control, and she views humanity as quite beneath her in general. This also applies to Devils, with the exception of the Chainsaw Devil.

Why is this? The Chainsaw Devil changes history itself. It removes literal concepts from existing and is chaotic, it doesn't follow an orderly path. Control is about order. The Chainsaw Devil/Pochita is the absolute reverse. It changes society. Society gravitates to the chainsaw devil.

The ultimate culmination of this is the following:

Gojo has no solid showing of resistance to mind hax (not being affected by his own domain is because he can choose who is affected). Makima opens fights generally with control. Here we have a unique scenario where Control gets instantly shut down from beating Gojo - not because of Gojo, but because of Makima.

Gojo is far too unique. He is the Infinity given form in essence. In the same way the Chainsaw Devil captivated Makima's interest, so would Gojo. Merely seeing “Limitless” at play would give Makima's enhanced senses all it needs to pick up on all aspects of Gojo's being. In this fashion, Makima would be prompted to wish to dominate Gojo in a fight to control him.

There is, however, an argument that Makima comes to know people via scent, and would not initially sense Gojo’s curse energy. In this case, she wouldn't immediately control him, thinking he is purely human (explained very well here). However, Gojo seems to have a passive aura to him, one that traumatized seasoned killers when he was a kid. Even if Makima initially perceives him via scent, his aura might throw her off and then give enough time for Makima to realize what Gojo actually is, either via Gojo explaining Limitless/her seeing it in action, or her enhanced senses.

In all, it's unlikely Makima would control Gojo, but if she did it would be a clear win.

Note: An argument for Gojo beating Control himself is that his brain is constantly refreshing itself via Reverse Cursed Technique. It's unknown if mental refreshment can cancel out Control, but Gojo using Reverse Curse Technique on himself for Curse Reversal might cancel it out (at least under verse equalization and the Cursed Energy/ Devil comparison brought up earlier).

Bonus Comic/Art

As a bonus, we have something cool to show. A comic of Gojo vs Makima (or at least the intro section). This 4 page comic was made by DekHead, who you can find on Twitter. He has also done some other artwork for this fight. Here it is:

We also have some art for you drawn by the individuals who worked on this blog, and a few wonderful thumbnails they made linked here.

Team Gojo

Stats

Overall statistics advantages and disadvantages for Gojo are quite simple to go through, as they are the easiest part to explain without the need to cover a bunch of terms.

Attack Potency & Durability

Gojo has a direct feat of tanking Jogo’s Maximum Meteor skill and ending up unharmed which is within the large town level range (155 to 832 Kilotons). It should be noted that Limitless in this particular situation was nulled, so he had to have actually tanked the attack directly.  Not to mention he is notably far superior to Jogo in terms of power. Jogo is also stated to be capable of turning all of Shibuya to ashes, and can create a Domain that has a real active volcano at full power, which also lands within the large town tier (441 Kilotons). “Okay, but if Jogo can turn all of Shibuya to ashes, why didn’t he?” The reason is simple, he did not want to kill Mahito who was still in Shibuya.

These feats alone should put Gojo above Makima in terms of AP and durability, considering Makima at best scales above Typhoon Devil’s storm feat, which only hits 10 Kilotons. Of course Makima has upscaling to go with it, but it wouldn’t be enough to close a gap of at absolute minimum 15x. So in terms of AP and durability, Gojo takes the win.

Speed

Speed is the biggest hurdle for Gojo to overcome, as Makima’s combat speed is far superior to him. Gojo at best scales to avoiding to the sonic and explosive attacks from Jogo’s Bug Bombs, netting him Mach 56-93 speed. Makima’s combat speed on the other hand is great enough to keep pace with the Darkness Devil, who is superior to the Gun Devil. The Gun Devil was able to travel to various countries and kill nearly 1.2 million people in a measly 5 minutes, which nets Mach 508. The Gun Devil also travels hundreds of kilometers in 3 seconds, netting Mach 421. Lastly her Bangs reach around Mach 100 due to shooting Chainsaw Man into orbit. So in terms of combat and attack speed, Makima takes the win.

Despite all this, Gojo’s method of countering this speed advantage lies within his perception speed and of course Limitless, which will be addressed in more depth in the Powers and Abilities section of the verdict. Gojo is capable of perceiving the last 3 years of his life in his mind within a moment, which in terms of perception speed, reaches around Mach 4633. This feat surpasses all of Makima’s other feats to the point that it (along with Limitless preventing any physical attacks from coming into contact with him and his range advantage) should net him enough time to come up with a game plan and figure Makima out, allowing him to counterattack accordingly.

To give more context: when Fake Geto walks by Gojo, the flashback says that Jogo needed to keep him in a 4 meter radius for a minute, but then clarifies and says it was "one minute in Gojo's mind". It actually only takes a couple seconds for the Prison Realm to activate and start the sealing. Since Gojo goes through 3 years of mental imagery which is obviously over a minute. Mainly due to him wondering how Geto was still alive. In real time it was seconds, but for Gojo's brain it was processing 3 years. It would scale to reactions but not movement speed.

In summary, aside from perception speed, Makima does overall take the speed advantage, but Gojo has the means to deal with said speed advantage with his own perception speed and powerful abilities.

Abilities & Equipment

Standard Hax

To address smaller arguments, refer to Before the Verdict for how Gojo deals with Control, as well as for whether or not Makima’s Contract would kill him.

Limitless counters nearly all of Makima’s summons. Gojo’s own Innate Domain most likely shuts down Cosmos’ mental attack, though that is not 100 percent certain. Even then, Makima actually controlling Cosmos is purely theoretical given the Fiend’s death. Gojo most likely would sense her threat level with the Six Eyes and kill her before she can act. He would also remove his blindfold and would not hold back against a threat like her.

Gojo being to function in stopped time makes the Eternity Devil useless, and his AOE with Red, Blue Maximum, and Purple render Makima’s army useless, even for distractions. Gojo’s teleportation also helps, since it is combat applicable.

If Makima attempts to send him to Hell with a Hell Devil contract, all Gojo has to do is kill the Hell Devil as it manifests, which is what the Chainsaw Devil did against it. If Makima attempts to resurrect it, Gojo would notice and blow its entire corpse to nothing. It is also unknown if the Hell Devil can even remove Gojo with Limitless in the way.

Bang is 100 percent concussive force, given the craters it leaves, and as shown when she shoots through her own hand to feed Denji blood. As such, it isn't getting past Limitless. Bang being treated as telekinesis by fans comes from her standoff with the Darkness Devil, which is the only time Bang is shown to work differently. She still applies force to make Darkness Devil bleed, but bypassing its barrier doesn't mean Bang can pass through Limitless, as both barriers work entirely differently.

Makima’s death curse could easily kill Gojo, but she would not be able to set it up given the needed high elevation and sacrifice. If she used animals to teleport away, Gojo could just follow her with his own teleportation and interrupt the ritual setup.

Gojo’s body being “Domain-like” prevents Makima from manifesting mold in him. Her only real combat option is using her biological manipulation to harm him, but Gojo can heal from internal bleeding with Reverse Cursed Technique. For it to be truly effective, Makima has to destroy his eyes (which would impair Limitless), or attack the brain (origin of Reverse Cursed Technique). Gojo’s healing could likely repair his eyes, given how impressive Reverse Cursed Healing was shown to be by Hakari. The Stone Devil is also useless on him, as he is not going to stand still near the sigil that the summoner has to stand on. He might also be able to resist the effects, given Cursed Energy can protect against Mahito’s transmutation.

Makima has shown to be able to affect her brain to make her organic crown, but has never used this as an attack and wouldn't open with it as a first move. Hakari has shown it's at least possible to partially heal the brain with Reverse Curse, and Gojo has healed from head impalement before. Her biological powers might also be an extension of Control, making them useless on someone she doesn't see as inferior. By the time she chooses to, Gojo will have used his Domain. Speaking of:

The most important aspect of this entire battle is the following question: Can Gojo permanently kill Makima?

None of Gojo’s standard attacks are going to do Makima in. This is fact, not guesswork. We know Makima can transfer damage to the Japanese populace both as sickness and death, restoring herself in the process. She can even do this when reduced to pieces by the Chainsaw Devil. Blue and Red both would leave enough of her body intact, and while we are equalizing JJK and CSM mechanics to an extent, Domain Amplification most likely cannot nullify Makima’s abilities. DA also leaves Limitless turned off during its duration span, which is counterintuitive to Gojo for this battle.

This brings us to Unlimited Void and Hollow Purple.

There is ongoing debate whether or not imparting information on Makima counts as an attack or can match the loophole found by Denji. Denji showed it is possible to kill Makima if an attack carried out on Makima has zero killing intent. Denji perceived eating Makima as an act of love, not harm. This allowed Makima’s contract to be bypassed.

The initiation of a Domain can be interpreted as an attack, but it doesn't matter. Activating a Domain is more like BFR, as the target is dragged into a pocket dimension. Makima being able to transfer BFR to someone else is unlikely. Kishibe’s plan to deal with Makima involved sending her to Hell, in which she had to resort to calling Pochita to be saved. Makima can cross dimensions, but can only do so via using the Spider Devil, who has to be in the dimension she wants to cross over to.

Domains are also built to prevent escape, requiring the target to apply another Domain to power null the realm or finding the “edge” of the dimension to escape. Escaping a Domain surrounded by a barrier is almost impossible, since the cubic volume inside is different from the cubic volume outside, making it extremely difficult to find the boundaries of the Domain while inside. For example, when dealing with Dagon’s Domain, Megumi had to use his own Domain to create a hole in the barrier for him to escape from it.

Unlimited Void’s info dump likewise isn't really an attack. It is more of a property of the Domain itself. An example would be Jogo's volcano Domain, one of the properties of which is intense heat. That isn't done as an attack, rather it is a passive quality of the location. The same thing should apply to Gojo. Unlimited Void is just Limitless as a location, Gojo’s Innate Domain/mindscape made real. Allowing Makima to simply remain in it is not the same as, for example, shooting a gun at her.

At best maybe you could say she could transfer her eventual death from the overload, but even that is debatable, as she could not undo her death at Denji’s hands. Unlimited Void slowly killing you is a byproduct of its information. Just having so much info would slowly kill anyone since that's a lot of stuff to process. It is not like Pokemon toxic damage. As such, it wouldn't meet the condition for Makima’s contract.

She also has a limit to her immortality, as she could not immediately undo Power’s blood ravaging her insides from Denji’s attack. Unlimited Void would stun her, and any of her summoned minions. Her only way out is to see the Domain coming with Future Devil’s few seconds of precognition, and time it perfectly, making sure the Spider Devil is out of the AOE of the capture, in order to use for dimensional escape. This would likely only work once with extreme difficulty, and Gojo can just spam his Domain again to get both of them, or outright just kill the Spider Devil. She can maybe move around inside for 0.2 seconds, since Special Curses affected by that time-frame recovered from the info dump, but they were still initially stunned.

Things get really dicey for Makima when you consider the other aspects of a Domain. Modern Domains have the Sure Hit function, meaning should she be incapacitated by the info dump, she and all her minions will be hit by attacks they cannot dodge. This is shown quite well by Dagon’s Domain, as attacks auto hit and cannot be dodged, or the Smallpox Deity’s Domain auto teleporting people into coffins. Not even Limitless can stop this function, as confirmed by Gojo. The most effective counter to this aspect is power null or casting another Domain, two things Makima cannot do. This would apply even if she somehow could transfer the overload away from herself. This opens her up to be hit by Purple, or a barrage of Red. Gojo implies he learned how to use multiple Blues and Reds at once, and Purple would disintegrate Makima entirely. Makima could potentially heal from being destroyed by Purple, but it is unknown if she can return from full body destruction.

At best, Makima ends up stunned long enough to count as a win by VS standards, at worst she dies permanently. Makima’s win-cons are far too reliant on “what if she does this” and require set up time, which makes sense, since she won a lot of her fights in the series with prep time. She isn't beating Gojo in a hax fight without it.

Tertiary Factors

While Makima is most likely much older than Gojo, it’s unknown exactly how much she’s had to fight Devils or how much training she’s had with her abilities and combat experience. While she obviously has a strong amount of knowledge and control, she’s never shown herself to be a master of combat or particularly well-skilled. Meanwhile, Gojo has a very provable level of not only hand-to-hand combat, but constant mastery over his abilities with Limitless, given his time at Jujutsu High. So, while Gojo may possess less experience, he does show a clear level of skill and training which outmatches Makima in a straight fight, and with his theory of 0.2 Domain Expansion, has very clearly explored the extent of his abilities just as much as she has, if not more. Even if we were to give these factors to Makima and eliminate Gojo’s Limitless, he’s fought evenly with seasoned fighters like Miguel. Hell, if he wanted to, it’s said he could single handedly kill every last citizen of Japan, if not most of the world, meaning draining out Makima’s entire stockpile of lives would only be a matter of time. So, regardless of any leeway given to Makima, he would be able to keep up.

Although Gojo may not show the same cunning and ruthlessness that Makima displays with planning and combat, he’s still no slouch himself. He has frequently found ways to bypass loopholes of the Jujutsu society that he has integrated himself into for years on end, and has shown an effective manner of analyzing his students and figuring out how to best help them grow. He can be argued to be just as clever and intelligent as Makima, he simply uses that mind in a different application and manner.

Makima’s use of innocents and Gojo maybe being able to figure out the contract of her immortality means that she could use the same limits of morality and innocents to hinder him and prevent him from using most of his abilities, much like Kenjaku had planned the Shibuya Incident around. However, this required multiple opponents attacking from all ends, being in a limited space, Kenjaku using Geto’s body to trick him, and a special method to seal him away that Makima likely cannot replicate. Not to mention, Gojo has shown that when backed into a corner, he is more than capable of finding another way. It would likely only be a matter of time before he realizes the extent of innocent casualties that Makima’s immortality would cause, and finds a way to put her down that avoids this. And in his case, Unlimited Void gives him the perfect means to do it, with the reserves to ensure he always has a chance to do so.

Conclusion

To summarize, Gojo’s overwhelming power advantage alongside Limitless and Unlimited Void counters Makima’s win conditions. While Makima may have higher combat speed, Gojo’s perception speed as well as Limitless should easily be able to keep him in the game in order to analyze her capabilities or simply deploy Unlimited Void.

A counter some may mention to Unlimited Void is the Cosmos Devil abilities granting Makima an info dump of her own, plus granting her a resistance. However, unlike Unlimited Void, Cosmos Devil’s power is never stated to actually flood the victim with an infinite amount of information. So assuming it can overpower Gojo’s own resistance and that Unlimited Void can’t overpower Makima’s resistance requires an assumption that Cosmos Devil’s info dump is infinite in scale, instead of just a large finite amount.

There is also the point that even if you want to ignore Domain scaling (which as noted above should be valid), Gojo still scales to Jogo’s meteor feat, which is still far beyond anything in Chainsaw Man up to this point. So a single Hollow Purple should wipe Makima out with zero effort. Unlimited Void would make Makima unable to move, forcing her to take the full brunt of the attack despite her combat speed advantage. This also assumes that Gojo being physically weaker has anything to do with Hollow Purple’s effectiveness, as the ability - while not existence erasure - is still a skill that bypasses durability altogether.

All of Makima’s projectiles would be completely null and void due to Limitless, and many of her options are either countered or wouldn’t be used before Unlimited Void is cast. There is also the fact that she would likely not see Gojo as beneath her as mentioned before, and as such this option for victory would not be available to her. Overall, Gojo may not have the quantity of Makima’s abilities, but the quality of them help him overcome her onslaught of techniques. Unfortunately Makima will not have any control over this fight as Gojo is simply one hell of an opponent.

Team Makima

Stats

Attack Potency & Durability

Makima’s strength is fairly easy to determine. The Typhoon Devil creating a storm over a city is pretty direct, and it gets 10 kilotons even on a conservative estimate. Makima upscales from it by quite a lot, since she pretty much gored and ripped out a stronger Denji’s heart, who previously oneshot the Typhoon Devil. That’s a pretty big scaling chain, and one Gojo can’t really overcome. Hollow Purple by word of god is his strongest attack, and it’s 7 kilotons of TNT at most. Even atomization would just put it at 10 kilotons, which is a level Makima can one shot as per the scaling chain. Domain Expansions scaling to physicality is very debatable, given their nature of being the Innate Domain of the person physically manifested. They’re basically visualizations of someone's imagination, and not something that necessarily requires any AP applicable energy to make

Likewise the Meteor Shibuya statement would be an outlier without Domains as support, as it would be several times stronger than Gojo’s best output, and also visually does not line up destruction wise. Even if we went with it, strength is not enough to win in a fight against Makima.

Speed

Makima’s speed is relatively easy to cover. She’s been able to outpace the reactions and reflexes of esteemed and quick Devil Hunters such as Quanxi, who had sliced apart several Devil Hunters and dolls in the surrounding area before any of them could process what had happened. She’s been able to keep up with Chainsaw Man in a confrontation and even blasted him off to orbit with her Bang blasts, which is Mach 103. Most importantly, she’s been able to react to gunfire from the Gun Devil, which is able to travel hundreds of kilometers in seconds, reaching speeds of Mach 421. Not only that, Gun Devil has massacred 1.2 million people throughout numerous countries in 5 minutes, giving it a speed of Mach 508. Makima being able to perceive the bullets and activate her ability at the time of the shots should mean her reactions and speed in combat is on par with these, further corroborated by how she’s been able to move at comparable speeds to the Darkness Devil, which is superior to Gun Devil.

Overall, this gives Makima a substantial advantage in reaction and combat speed. While Gojo may have superior perception speed, Makima’s advantages will ensure she has the upper hand when it comes to movement, and under the right circumstances will allow her to get ahead of the curve in crafting the best combative measures and utilizing of her techniques and assortment of Devils to gain the lead over Gojo.

JJK speed has been addressed to death, so it won't be covered here. The only thing to mention is that Gojo’s mach 4000+ calc for his perceptions scales only to that, perceptions. When reliving his past 3 years, Gojo froze up and couldn't move during that period. It is highly unlikely it pertains to reactions or combat speed.

Abilities & Equipment

Cutting to the chase, while Gojo’s Limitless does indeed prevent several of Makima’s Devils from harming him, this does not mean Makima cannot kill Gojo. To start, Gojo has the odd habit of manually running Limitless while wearing his blindfold (refer to Gojo Section; Infinity in abilities). This may be due to the blindfold being meant to limit the Six Eyes. This potentially means Makima might be able to harm Gojo while he’s holding back, either with Angel’s Life Steal touch, or Petrification via Stone Devil. The Stone Devil does require the user to stand still and make a sigil, but Makima has enough Minions to keep Gojo localized to a spot, even with his crowd control. The Zombie Devil can revive any minion Gojo does not fully destroy, and the Mantis Devil and Shark Fiend can attack him from below for distraction. Gojo can fly, but so can Makima.

So long as either her summoned Devils or Hybrids’ heads are intact, she could just feed her blood or another minion's blood to them to revive them. Makima can also use her organic crown to teleport her forces away or to Gojo’s location, and send weaponry from Angel Devil to assist them. They will die, but they will buy time as mentioned prior. One thing Makima could do is have her minions sacrifice themselves to summon the Hell Devil to send Gojo to Hell, which he cannot escape from. Gojo would be left to fight the Primordial Devils of Hell, like the Darkness Devil, and eventually be killed by them. If Gojo somehow manages to kill the Hell Devil as it is summoned, all Makima has to do is feed it blood or have a minion do it to fully revive it and try again.

The Future Devil’s precognition granted to Makima would allow her to see attacks like Red and Blue coming, and set up her defense accordingly. The Weapon Hybrids, Punishment Devil, and Gun Devil can all cover large areas with their destructive power, buying time for Makima to attempt either the death ritual by teleporting away using animals like mice to set up her Death Ritual, or get close enough to Gojo to use her biological manipulation to harm his insides. Just a glare from Makima can cause death by internal hemorrhaging; causing bleeding from the eyes and nose which suggests damage to the head. This would be consistent with her ability to control her own brain, and control over bodies. Once she targets Gojo’s brain it is checkmate, because Reverse Cursed Technique is powered by it, and if the brain is damaged sufficiently it cannot be healed.

She could also use this to target Gojo’s eyes, which are needed for most of his abilities to function at their peak. It is unknown if Gojo can heal his eyes (comparing him to Hakari’s regeneration is simply unproven guesswork), and would not be the first time Makima has gone for eyes.

In regards to Control, Gojo has no resistance to it. Gojo being compared to the Chainsaw Devil is perhaps a bit debatable, given the Chainsaw Devil is an entity that literally retcons history. It is the Devil most feared by other Devils for this reason. Gojo’s mental refresh cannot cancel Control, as it is based on willpower, and she can erase his memories to prevent him from fighting back against commands.

In regards to Unlimited Void and her own Contract, Makima can view it coming with the Future Devil, and leave the Spider Devil underground with her phasing ability to escape the AoE. Afterwards she can escape quickly with Spider’s zipper and attack Gojo with biological attacks to prevent him from using it again. More importantly, even if Unlimited Void is not a traditional attack, it is still activated with the intent to harm Makima. Being inside of it is supposed to kill the target eventually. Gojo does not love Makima like Denji did, and thus cannot exploit her loophole. Her contract most likely would just send the information to the populace of Japan as some sort of sickness or accident. Her contract would also just transfer damage from Sure Hit strikes. Gojo is not killing Makima before she kills him. He has to kill her over 120 million times, which would take far too long. If we assume it takes a second for Makima to revive and he hits her every time,it would take 3-4 years, which is simply not viable.

It would be an extremely difficult battle for the Control Devil, but she would eventually overwhelm Gojo’s body and then control or kill him.

Tertiary Factors

While Gojo has more direct provable combat experience, Makima likely has more. She's been around potentially for at least a century, as she remembers events like World War II and even other occurrences well before that.  By the time she did battle with the Gun Devil, she had been killed at least 20 times which shows that she had been in combat prior. We also know for the fact that she had repeatedly been in combat with the Chainsaw Devil alongside the other three horsemen. Makima is someone feared even by Quanxi, the first Devil Hunter of the modern era, and one of the most talented martial artists in the entire series.

Makima is also a master of manipulation, and adaptable in combat as seen with her fight with Power.

She knows exactly how to break a person, even with a miniscule amount of information available to her. Her vast quantity of knowledge is only shown to be superseded by Cosmos. Makima has led the Public Safety Committee for years, and the culmination of her planning leads to all nations on the planet surrendering to the fact that they cannot stop her. Makima is the perfect counter for the force of nature that is Gojo.

Gojo mostly has to deal with enemies far less intelligent and weaker than himself. It's also been shown that collateral damage with innocents can be used against him, which is something Makima would have no issue with exploiting. Giving her perfect collaboration in combat with her controlled minions and her tactical mind, she can most definitely outwit Gojo.

Conclusion

To summarize, Makima could take down Gojo given her own notable advantages, such as speed, plentiful hax, and numbers. This is evident given how difficult it is for Gojo to even land a good hit under these circumstances or use his Unlimited Void, taking into account the Future Devil. This is also assuming that any of his attacks do some damage to her, since Hollow Purple itself does not have enough power calculated or supported by the verse to be stronger than Makima's scaling to the Typhoon Devil. Domains are still pretty much up to interpretation and relate more to energy usage to bring out an already mental landscape, rather than physically scaling to its creation.

Makima's abilities also allow her to keep up with him, especially by reviving as many times as she needs to by transferring any damage to Japanese citizens, which includes Gojo himself. Her biological control counters Gojo’s regenerative abilities, and the Stone Devil can bypass Gojo’s defense to the Mold Devil.

It would also take Gojo a ridiculous amount of time to dwindle her life count. Makima can transport between dimensions with the Spider Devil or brain halo in order to evade Limitless. She can strategically use her army to distract Gojo and revive fallen numbers with the Zombie Devil. She compares or surpasses Gojo in skill and can most likely control Gojo, who is still vulnerable to the public Devil Hunter’s ability. Gojo is simply facing too many options that he cannot prepare for that bypass his best defense. It seems that Gojo is an Infinity below Makima.
