The battleline between Good and Evil runs through the heart of every man.” - Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn

Satoru Gojo, wielder of the Six Eyes and the strongest modern sorcerer in Jujutsu Kaisen.

Makima, top dog of the Devil Hunters and the revolutionary Control Devil of Chainsaw Man.

Within such a corrupt world, no one will ever truly be able to thrive if things remain unchanged. But for change to happen, the world would need a being unlike any other to appear; someone with the will to do whatever it takes to see their vision unfold. What they would resort to in order to achieve their ambitions… that is its own question.

We’ve covered the hypothetical battle between Gojo and Makima before, with updates and other discussion afterwards. And now we will put these two against one another for the last time (hopefully). Will Satoru Gojo curse the Devil Hunter’s chances of victory, or will Makima gain control over the fate of the honored one? Let’s run this back as we determine who would win a DEATH BATTLE!

Before We Start…

For Jujutsu Kaisen, we will be using the manga, anime, JJK 0 film, the official JJK databook and the Jump GIGA Summer 2021 JJK "Deep Learning Mathematics Lecture". The Jump Giga lecture was an interview held with Gege’s editor (Gege being the author) and two mathematicians discussing the mechanics of Gojo’s Limitless ability and Domains. This interview is official, and was held in part due to Gege’s admitted issue with displaying/explaining Gojo’s ability. Here is a glossary for JJK terms if things become confusing (strongly recommend reading this, the series is very term-heavy).

Chainsaw Man is far more simple as we will only need to focus on the original manga and anime adaptation.

Also, obviously, both manga series are far ahead of their anime adaptations and have featured major developments in the story. So, naturally, massive spoiler warnings for both series. This goes for the entire Jujutsu Kaisen story up to chapter 239, and all of Chainsaw Man up to chapter 146, which includes Chainsaw Man Part 2. You have been warned.

Background

Gojo

"I’m gonna reset this crappy Jujutsu world. It’d be easy to kill everyone who’s in charge. But someone else would just take their place. Nothing would change. And it’s not as if people approve of massacres anyway… So that’s why I’m turning to education. I need strong and intelligent allies. I need to foster them!"

When Satoru Gojo was born, the balance of the world was altered. As the first person to inherit both the Six Eyes and Limitless in 400 years, Gojo’s power was so high that a bounty was placed on his head upon birth, but every assassin that came for it folded to his mere aura. The latest in the Gojo family was eventually enrolled into Jujutsu High School for the purpose of training to master his cursed energy and aid in the exorcism of cursed spirits.

Alongside his best and only friend Suguru Geto, he was assigned the mission of protecting the Star Vessel, a young girl designated to merge with an ancient sorcerer responsible for maintaining the safety of Jujutsu academies. However, they ultimately failed, and this failure resulted in a fundamental disagreement between Gojo and Geto on how best to protect the world, leading to the two friends parting ways. Geto became a man driven on humanity’s extinction, the worst of all curse users, while Gojo remained at Jujutsu High and became a teacher, a man driven to properly educate the next generation of sorcerers.

One night, Gojo encountered a young student, Yuji Itadori, who had swallowed a finger of Sukuna, an evil ancient sorcerer who lingered on as a curse in the modern day. While Yuji was originally sentenced to death in order to kill Sukuna, Gojo personally halted his execution in order to allow Yuji to continue finding and collecting Sukuna’s fingers. This was also because Gojo saw people like Yuji as a chance to change Jujutsu society for the better. He continued to teach him how to utilize Cursed Energy, though the current time of peace was destined to fade away.

On the night of Halloween in 2018, Gojo became embroiled in the Shibuya Incident, a night of massacre orchestrated by a group of cursed spirits seemingly led by Geto himself. While Gojo did an admirable job battling the group, he was ultimately tricked and sealed away, with any attempt to free him deemed punishable by death, and Gojo himself being banned from Jujutsu High.

Despite all that, Gojo was eventually freed thanks to the combined efforts of Yuji and many others. With Sukuna at near full power, Gojo decided to finally deal with the ancient sorcerer himself, battling him at Shinjuku. A fight between the strongest sorcerers of different eras. While Gojo put up a remarkable fight against Sukuna, even putting him in a corner several times, his effort was ultimately cut short by the ancient curse. Though the strongest sorcerer is dead, hope isn’t all lost, as Gojo’s students will no doubt carry on what he’s left behind. While Satoru Gojo may fall, the honored one’s legacy and mark on the world will continue to persevere, until his dream of a better world for all sorcerers is realized.

Makima

“I wish to use the Chainsaw Man in order to create a better world. Consider… death, war, hunger. There are many things in this world that would increase happiness upon removal. And I will remove them all using Chainsaw Man’s Power.”

In the world as we know it, there is good and there is evil. Born out of the latter, alongside humanity's fear of certain occurrences or phenomena, are Devils. Just as our fear can destroy us, so could these demonic entities. Thus, to preserve civilization and keep the monsters at bay, there exists the Public Safety Devil Hunters organization, which specializes in this very task. Atop this pyramid, and the one controlling its 4th Division, is the greatest threat amongst the Devils - the one the entirety of the world's governments fear - Makima, the Control Devil. However, she did not start out this way.

Essentially, once a Devil dies, they are reborn in an eternal cycle of reincarnation; first in hell, and when they are killed there, they resurrect on earth. When Makima was born on Earth again, she was found and raised by the Japanese government to be an asset to Devil Hunting… but that turned out to be the worst mistake they could possibly make. Makima wanted to form genuine connections and bonds with other people, but the cold and uncaring nature of her governmental "care,” as well as her status as the Control Devil, led her to only be able to express relationships through fear and domination. Now cold and empty, Makima had no genuine respect towards anything or anyone… until the Chainsaw Devil appeared.

The Chainsaw Devil could not be killed by any Devil; it always rose again to strike back. Makima became an avid admirer of Chainsaw, so when she happened to find the Devil inside the body of the teenage Yakuza debtor Denji, her true desires began to reveal themselves. With the power of the Chainsaw Devil, or Pochita, as Denji would call him, Makima would tear down the world at large and remove everything she deemed wrong, setting everything right with her undying hero at her side. The only catch was that Pochita had made a contract with Denji that prevented his use, setting aside his power so the boy could live a happy life. So in order to get around the contract, Makima, bit by bit and brick by brick, built up Denji's life to where he thought he could be happy, only to burn it all to ash in a cold, brutal fashion.

With the contract null and void, she unleashed the true Chainsaw Man, and reached the endgame of her goals. Surprisingly, when on the verge of success after having broken Denji mentally and Pochita physically, the duo were saved by the Blood Devil, Power, who helped them escape and bring Denji back to normal. After recuperating, Chainsaw Man battled Makima one last time, and it ended with her ripping out his heart a second time. Her plan complete, Makima closed her eyes and began to rest, until Denji slashed her chest open with a chainsaw, having tricked the Control Devil by turning Pochita into a duplicate of himself.

Makima never paid attention to Denji, and so she didn't notice the trick until it was too late. In order to bypass her immortality and slay her for good, Denji sliced her into bits and pieces, and then ate those pieces with love in his heart, finally ending her emotionless life with the one thing she never received. However, this is not the ending of her story. Per the cycle of reincarnation, the Control Devil was reborn as a spunky young girl named Nayuta, and found yet again by the government. However, rather than make the same mistake they made all those years ago, Kishibe entrusted her to Denji, who would teach her how to have a normal life, and one filled with love at that, hopefully resulting in a change of fate for the one who once held the strings.

Experience & Skill

Gojo

Satoru Gojo, despite his aloof and somewhat arrogant personality, has proven to possess exceptional skills in Jujutsu and martial arts. His usage of techniques in battle is so complex that it takes entire teams of skilled Jujutsu sorcerers to analyze and comprehend. Gojo also spent years of studying in Tokyo Jujutsu High, exorcizing numerous cursed spirits and defeating several sorcerers with ease. Gojo, being only a teen at the time, was chosen to protect the Star Plasma Vessel. Despite failing to ultimately keep her alive, Gojo defeated one of the most skilled fighters in Jujutsu Kaisen, Toji Fushiguro.

Satoru is a genius in combat, as shown in his battle with the strongest sorcerer in history, Sukuna. The king of curses is one of the most skilled and experienced sorcerers in the series, displaying his knowledge in Jujutsu with his constant adaptability in fights. Yet despite how skilled his opponent was, Gojo was a match for him, keeping up in adaptability and winning most close combat brawls. He is a master of hand to hand combat, which is best showcased in his beat downs on Sukuna and his visceral display of Wing Chun against Miguel.

He pairs these hand to hand skills with his great knowledge of sorcery. Being from one of the three main Jujutsu families, Gojo has received excellent training and picked up many techniques, such as Simple Domain and Falling Blossom Emotion. Gojo’s tactical mastery extends to his Domain, which he can manipulate in ways thought impossible for any sorcerer. Gojo is also fully capable of coming up with on the spot strategies, such as his “unlimited” Hollow Purple used on Sukuna.

Very few in the world of Jujutsu Kaisen will ever reach the pinnacle that is Satoru Gojo, his only true peer in this regard being Sukuna. Even Kenjaku, who has lived for a thousand years and has accumulated millions of Curse Spirits, admitted he cannot match Gojo in any regard. Mentally he was able to remain sane after being trapped in the Prison Realm, which is noted to be like experiencing possibly centuries in solitude.

In regards to stamina, Gojo as a teen was able to keep up his Limitless technique active for 3 days straight without sleep. As an adult, he kept Limitless active inside of the Prison Realm for 19 days. Gojo is more than capable of fighting multiple foes at once, as shown when he overcame Agito and Mahoraga while fighting Sukuna.

Makima

Makima, from the little bit we’ve seen, is a skilled fighter. She was able to beat a weakened Pochita in a brawl with just her hands, having no need of weapons. She also has years of experience leading Devil Hunters against other foes, given that she is a high ranking devil hunter. There is also a very possible chance she has way more years of experience before the events of the story given her devil status. True to her nature as the Control Devil, Makima is also extremely manipulative and calculative, to the point she planned everything that happened in Denji's life throughout Part 1, including the time and place of the deaths of his friends.

However, due to the various contracts she had obtained, Makima can summon other skilled fighters such as Katana Man, an incredibly skilled and experienced swordsman who could contend with Aki in a close-quarters scenario, even while having his guard down and not taking the fight seriously. When Katana Man finally takes the fight seriously, he is capable of easily defeating Aki in a single hit. Reze, who was trained as a super-soldier, received harsh military training and had her natural abilities amplified through experiments; she could also take on, fight and defeat Denji in a one on one. Aki, who as previously mentioned could contend with Katana Man by making use of his contracts to gain an advantage over him, and is also an experienced swordsman, while using the sword as his primary weapon, he can easily take care of a large group of enemies. Makima also has access to the Violence Fiend, and many more who are all very skilled fighters themselves.

What truly speaks in regards to Makima’s experience and skill is the fact Quanxi, who in series is regarded as the strongest fighter, decided to surrender rather than fight the Control Devil. Makima has comparable stamina to Denji, who was able to fight for three days straight. One thing to note is that fellow horsemen Fami (Famine) was able to orchestrate the conception of a cult that worships Chainsaw Man. This plan culminated in the birth of hundreds of thousands of pseudo Chainsaw Men, despite the best efforts of the Public Safety commission to prevent it. Makima’s tactical mind should be more than comparable to Fami, as Makima herself outplayed the United States, Germany, Russia, and China. By the end of Part 1, practically every nation on the planet gave up on opposing Makima. The US president went as far as sacrificing one year of life for every citizen in the United States, and even this do or die plan failed against her.

In every fight Makima participates in, she uses a combination of her summons to best counter her opposition. An example is using the Zombie Devil to counter Power’s internal blood manipulation, by bringing back her dead minions to defeat her. Makima also manipulated the entire planet to no longer fear Chainsaw Man, which weakened Pochita. She has been shown to be a skilled hand to hand fighter as well.

Equipment

Gojo

Blindfold

A blindfold that restricts the Six Eyes effects. It's a necessity in his day to day life, seeing how if he were to output them 24/7, he would suffer great fatigue and mental strain, and thus by wearing the blindfold, he's able to keep his cursed energy output stable every day. Plus thanks to his special Six Eyes he can still see with it on.

Indestructible Compression Shirt

This damn thing survived being completely slashed through by Mahoraga, being hit by a domain expansion like a hundred times, a whole nuke that ruined a city, and a slash that cut through space itself, it is more durable then Gojo at this point. For fuck’s sake Gege, remove the shirt.

Makima

Devil Hunter Suit

The Devil Hunter suit is worn by all Devil Hunters. It acts as a way to look professional and a bit of armor to protect the wearer. It has been stated to be quite sturdy and it was strong enough that Aki didn’t die from Kitana Man’s many slices at him.

Sword

Makima once did have a sword, and from the bit we’ve seen, she has used it to cut off the heads of Quanxi and her fiends. Looks cool as well.

Abilities

Gojo

Sorcerer Physiology

Humans who are capable of using Curse Energy for techniques called "Jujutsu" are classified as "Sorcerers" and have various special physiological attributes. Sorcerers are able to see cursed spirits that are invisible to the human eye and video capturing devices, and hear the sounds those cursed spirits make, which are normally imperceptible to humans. Also unlike humans, sorcerers are resistant to the damaging biological effects of cursed energy. The brains of sorcerers are specifically modified, which is what allows them to use cursed energy themselves in the first place.

The soul and body in Jujutsu Kaisen have a strange interplay with one another. The soul and the physical body are defined as being “illusory boundaries of a person's being that are both fundamentally information”. In essence they exist as one, being fundamental information made flesh. Gege even defines the body as being similar to a Domain, which prevents foreign material from being manifested into the body.

Cursed Energy

Cursed energy is a form of energy that is utilized by all sorcerers to enhance their power for unique techniques, with all jujutsu sorcerers knowing how to operate it. This energy is generated through triggering negative emotions (Examples being anger, jealousy, and hatred). As said previously, every sorcerer knows how to use cursed energy, as all undergo training to generate and use cursed energy from even the slightest of their emotions. This allows them to avoid wasting cursed energy whenever their emotions are greatly affected. Cursed Energy flows from the gut, and to the rest of the body. It can be used to reinforce the body, increasing strength, speed, and durability and can be used to walk on water. The usage of Cursed Energy in combat is called Taijutsu

Injuries caused by Cursed Energy cause people to become automatically cursed, which creates severe consequences for normal beings, such as extreme pain, weakening of the body, becoming ill, and eventually death. Cursed Energy also grants the ability to harm non-physical entities, like low-grade Curses, which are capable of becoming intangible.

Usages of Cursed Energy

Physical Empowerment - By fusing cursed energy with their bodies, sorcerers are able to massively increase their physical prowess and abilities, and even interact and harm cursed spirits. Skilled enough sorcerers can restrict damage by controlling their energy, as shown by Todo focusing his energy in a singular spot to minimize harm from an attack.

Spiritual Protection - Sorcerers can also use cursed energy as a protection of their souls.

Cursed Techniques - An essential trick card to every sorcerer, a way to manipulate cursed energy through different and unique ways rather than simply unleashing it, while all sorcerers are skilled in different techniques, the ones Gojo can pull off will be elaborated in the sections below.

Binding Vows

Binding vows are pledges and/or restrictions sorcerers can make with both themselves or their opponent, with punishments for breaking a vow varying from minor to fatal. Binding vows are created via Cursed Energy made from a person or opponent where self imposed restrictions are put on the user, would it be them revealing how a technique works, or not using or sacrificing a specific item or technique during the fight, resulting in production of a massive amount of Cursed Energy.

While revealing info or restricting techniques obviously seems counterintuitive, the fact that that massive amount of Cursed Energy can be utilized makes up for it. Additionally, certain details of the technique can be left out to catch the opponent off guard. Rules can also be set on the opponent to balance things out, prohibiting certain abilities the opponent uses. Though this nullification seems specifically tied to Cursed Energy.

Pressure Points

After Gojo fought with Sukuna in Yuji’s body for the first time, he was able to knock him unconscious just with a tap to the head.

Cursed Technique

Jujutsu is the application of Cursed Energy into specific techniques. If Cursed Energy is the equivalent of electricity, Cursed Techniques are the household appliances that run on it. Although Cursed Energy can be employed as a blunt force or to reinforce the body, these are not considered Cursed Techniques. Instead, Cursed Techniques channel Cursed Energy into them to perform a specific function, bestowing a special power on the user. Cursed Techniques are something like a blueprint, a mold, or a formula. The caster pours CE into that mold, or builds the Technique using the blueprint. Innate Techniques are carved into the user's body at birth. Gojo’s technique is called Limitless.

Six Eyes

A rare ability that can only be inherited by those of the Gojo clan. This technique takes the appearance of striking blue eyes that grant Gojo strong extrasensory abilities. He can sense cursed energy in extreme detail, even from miles away, through curtains, and omnidirectionally. This great perception of cursed energy also lets him read the flow of cursed techniques. These eyes also grant Gojo incredibly precise control over his cursed energy, allowing him to reduce the cursed energy cost of techniques to infinitesimally close to zero and manipulate it at the atomic level. It is also possible that the Six Eyes are needed for the Limitless technique to properly work.

Limitless

Limitless is the innate technique that Gojo was born with. A technique passed down through the Gojo clan, this technique revolves around manipulating space and infinity. As Gojo explains it, Infinity is naturally present everywhere, with Limitless bringing it into reality. As mentioned in the section above, Gojo’s Six Eyes are what allow him to use the ability to its full potential. Gojo is able to apply limitless techniques into many different techniques such as…

Infinity

By bringing the naturally occuring infinity of nature into reality, Gojo creates the neutral state of Limitless - the power to stop motion. This manifests as Gojo's inviolability. Through the convergence and divergence of an infinity series (similar to those in mathematics), Gojo is capable of taking the finite amount of space between two subjects and dividing it an infinite amount of times; creating a ‘pseudo’ infinite space between him and the target, slowing down their movements to a stop. Targets that attempt to ‘reach’ the Infinity will have their movements slowed the closer they approach.

It mirrors the mathematical idea of an infinite amount of decimals between two numbers. It allows us to approach a specific value or point with increasing precision without ever quite reaching it, which is particularly useful in calculus and other branches of mathematics. Just as there are endless decimals like 1.1, 1.01, 1.001, and so on, between the numbers 1 and 2 that never actually reach 2. According to Gojo and Gege (Jujutsu Kaisen's author), this convergence of an infinite series comes straight from the paradox of Achilles and the tortoise. Similar to the concept of infinite decimals, Zeno's Paradox illustrates that Achilles will never be able to catch up to the tortoise because he must first reach the point where the tortoise started, and by the time he gets there, the tortoise will have moved further; showcasing that an infinite series of diminishing distances can be divided infinitely.

Gojo tailored Limitless to automatically detect an object's mass, speed, shape, danger, and cursed energy. Within it, Gojo can control the 'strength' and 'weakness' of the phase, allowing him to manipulate the very concepts of 'nearby' and 'far' to 'alter' the 'distance feeling' of his enemy. This technique involves the principles of 'approaching action' and 'slowing convergence,' involving the rearrangement of conditionally convergent series through manipulation, leading to divergence when extreme limits exceed a certain threshold. It can also be explained through the Riemann series theorem. Allowing Gojo to use a Riemannian manifold and kernel functions to distort the density and distance metric. Similar to how a 10-meter distance could appear as |ds| = 1 depending on location, making it seem like someone advancing 10 meters is actually progressing just 1 meter, ultimately affecting the perceived speed of approaching objects or individuals in a way that Gojo can control using his technique.

The inviolability can even be expanded to keep harmful substances away from the user, or to overpower someone by increasing its output as an offensive created space, which can be shot out as a projectile. It can be applied to the area behind Gojo, leaving it unaffected, and works omnidirectionally. It can lock down projectiles, and keep multiple targets at bay at once. The inviolability functions in combat. It can even block attacks as massive and wide-ranging as Mahito’s Body Repel and Choso’s Supernova. Infinity has become passive in nature as well, with Gojo refreshing his brain around the clock through Reverse Cursed Technique. Limitless, as the power to control space-time at the atomic level, has even allowed Gojo to function within Prison Realm, where time does not pass, and create a crater from it to Kenjaku.

Despite the sheer magnitude of its potency, Gojo’s inviolability is not a perfect defense. The Infinity can be nullified with a domain, applied though either Domain Expansion or Domain Amplification. Cursed tools imbued with specialized cursed techniques can also disturb or dispel the Infinity. Gojo is known to consistently use hand signs in conjunction with Infinity while wearing his blindfold, similar to how he used to years back. Likely implying that he is holding back, or that its passive nature is reduced. Infinity also has difficulty with more intricate chemical structures, such as toxins. It’s also implied that reality-altering techniques can oppose the Limitless, and abilities like the Divine General can adapt and evolve to Gojo’s inviolability. Prison Realm, due to operating under conditions, can seal Gojo. Similarly, attacks that target ‘space’ or one’s ‘existence’ will entirely bypass the Limitless Technique

Technique is so complicated that Gege tells you to go and search on Google. Unbelievable, right? Shaking my head.

Teleportation

Limitless grants Gojo and potentially other users the ability to teleport by compressing space and coordinates. He can use this to teleport himself and others far distances, along with being able to use it during fights. It is said that certain conditions are needed for Gojo to perform the teleportation, with this condition likely being clasping his hands together, as that’s what he does whenever he teleports without a circle.

Levitation

Another ability born from Limitless, Gojo can float in midair as if weightless. He can levitate several meters into the air with no issue. He can also fight while in the air.

Cursed Technique Lapse: Blue

This application of Limitless focuses on using the output of Cursed Energy to attract things. By forcing the surrounding space to try and fill in a negative space made by Limitless, it creates a magnetic pull type effect that he can use on others (for a Shinra Tensei) or his surroundings (it can even be used to make a mini Chibaku Tensei). By using Blue to constrict the space around an opponent or objects, he can use it to crush the target or any object he wishes. Capitalizing off the pull in space, Gojo can use Blue to move at high speeds across short distances, appearing almost instantaneously (this would actually be fatal for anyone besides Gojo himself). He can also use it to enhance his punches by absorbing the space between the hit and the target right before impact.

Blue Balls

While fighting off Sukuna, Gojo showed off a multi-orb attack similar to that of his Maximum Output: Blue, which we will be calling “Blue Balls”. Insert laugh here. These blue balls are fast and deadly, destroying all matter in their way and leaving barely anything behind. They were even able to injure the fraudulent one Sukuna. The pull from these orbs can be used to bring Gojo’s opponents to himself or he can use them for a fast pull on himself.

Maximum Cursed Energy Output: Blue

When just the normal attraction of Blue isn’t enough, Gojo can ramp its output up to 11. This maximum output forms a center of gravity that will attract all matter around it towards itself and crush it. It can be used to carve away large spaces or just crush the opponent with the attraction itself. Gojo can also control this center of gravity and move it as he pleases, further increasing its sheer destructive potential.

Cursed Technique Reversal: Red

After learning Reverse Cursed Technique, Gojo was able to access a new form of Limitless. Serving as the reverse of Blue, this application of Limitless allows Gojo to generate the power to repel by bringing the divergence of infinity into reality. This repelling effect takes the form of a fast red orb of cursed energy that unleashes an explosive blast of force. The energy output of Red is at least twice the output of Blue, making it a far more destructive attack. Gojo can also delay the explosion of Red, controlling it to hit an opponent later and catch them off guard.

Hollow Technique: Purple

The pinnacle of the Limitless technique, a fusion of Red and Blue, of attraction and repulsion, that creates an imaginary mass that is launched at a foe, capable of absurd damage Gojo’s other techniques never could hope to match. This technique has completely ripped through the sides of Toji and Hanami, and killed Mahoraga while severely messing up Sukuna; nobody who’s seen the technique has come out without severe injury. Gojo has shown three different ways of using this technique: the normal version that shoots out a large highly destructive mass, a smaller and faster version, and a massive nuke version. Said nuke version is the most unique usage of the ability, by shooting a Reversal Red into an already existing Maximum Output: Blue, Gojo can trigger an uncontrolled explosion of energy. This explosion had a massive range and devastated a city.

Reverse Cursed Technique

After a near death encounter at the hands of Toji, Gojo picked up the ability of Reverse Cursed Technique on the brink of death. By taking the destructive and negative cursed energy and multiplying it into a positive energy, Gojo is able to heal wounds he’s sustained in battle. Since he unlocked it as a teenager he’s only grown more efficient with the technique. He’s healed stab wounds to his body and head, an attempted decapitation, slashes through his body, a slice through his chest, and even an entire arm. He can also heal his eyes if they are destroyed or slashes through his head

Satoru can also use the technique to destroy and then heal his brain, essentially refreshing it. By refreshing his brain, Gojo is able to restore his innate technique at a much quicker rate, which is how he was able to cast Domain Expansion so much against Sukuna. This innate technique refresh has a limit of 5 due to the complex method of healing the brain's “black box”, however his ability to heal the brain in general likely wouldn’t have such a limit given he already runs RCT through his brain at all times.

Gojo is amongst the best practitioners of RCT, being only beaten in this regard by Sukuna and Hakari with his Domain Bonus. As such it should be fair to use RCT showings from other sorcerers as examples of what Gojo can heal from. RCT can be used to heal broken bones, severed arms, removed eyes, and even minor damage to the brain.

Reverse Curse Technique originates from the brain, so sufficient damage to it in theory can prevent regeneration. Continuous usage of RCT will cause its potency to lessen overtime. It is also difficult to use Cursed Energy while healing, but Gojo is an exception to the rule. Reverse Curse Technique has difficulty removing toxins from the body. Only high level masters can remove toxins using this ability. Gojo also cannot heal others with RCT, only himself.

Black Flash

When Cursed Energy is applied to a physical attack in 0.000001 seconds, a distortion in space occurs, amplifying the strength of the attack greatly. This technique requires immense concentration and is not something that jujutsu sorcerers, Gojo included, can activate at will. While extremely hard to pull off, Gojo has shown that in the heat of battle he can perform it multiple times in succession. While using Black Flash consecutively is not seen as something special, it causes the user to enter a zone in which manipulating one’s cursed energy is as natural as breathing.

Due to the increase in combat performance, the user is able to operate at 120% of their maximum potential in battle. Along with this performance buff, Gojo has shown that landing a Black Flash can restore one’s Reverse Cursed Technique output, and Mahito has shown it can even restore one’s cursed technique, further adding to the benefits of landing this move.

Clone Illusions

During his fight with Sukuna, Gojo briefly showed off the ability to make illusionary clones. His method of doing it is unknown, but our best guess is it being an application of Cursed Technique Lapse: Blue, with the clone illusions being a byproduct of space filling in the gaps. However it’s done, it works as a simple way to catch his opponent off guard.

Empowering Cursed Chants

They do exactly what the name says. By reciting specific words, Gojo can increase his cursed energy output and enhance his abilities. The chants for enhancing Blue are “Phase”, “Twilight”, and “The Eyes of Prajñā”. The chants for enhancing Red are “Phase”, “Pāramitā”, and “Pillars of Light”. Finally the chants for Purple are “Nine Ropes”, “Polarized Light”, “Crow and Shōmyō”, and “The Gap Between With and Without”. These chants can enhance an ability by up to 80%, a helpful tool for if Gojo ever needs more energy.

Falling Blossom Emotion

An Anti Domain Technique known only to those who are part of the three big families. It's a cursed energy control program that automatically repels anyone who touches it, acting as an additional layer of defense to minimize damage. With it, Gojo was able to turn slashes going through his body into just mere shallow scratches.

New Shadow Style: Simple Domain

As the name implies, it's a small and simple Domain Expansion technique, created to resist the must hit effects of normal Domain Expansions, however the barrier cannot resist the Cursed Techniques themselves, and the Domain can only buy time before breaking against a full Domain Expansion. Gojo can use this move several times in succession.

Curtain

A curtain is a vast spherical boundary Jujutsu Sorcers can place around an area to prevent civilian interference in Sorcerer/Curse fights. Certain restrictions can be placed to determine who can enter or not similar to Binding Vows, such as "anyone can enter the Barrier at the cost of Gojo Satoru being barred entry". Though it is worth noting that the stronger the barrier inside is, the weaker the outside barrier is, the restrictions can only really be applied to beings with cursed energy, and that prep time is needed to set a Curtain up.

Innate Domain

The "Innate Domain" is the space that we are born with, which can be called a "mental landscape" that embodies our heart/mind. An innate domain is a metaphysical landscape that represents the mind and soul of the individual who owns it. All people and even spirits are born with them and they are the crux of innate techniques. This domain can be expanded by using the pinnacle of Cursed Techniques, Domain Expansion. Gojo’s Innate Domain is the Limitless itself, meaning it is likely meant to be an abstraction of Infinity. This manifests into the world as Unlimited Void.

Domain Expansion: Unlimited Void

Domain Functions

By expanding one’s innate domain into a barrier technique, a sorcerer can unleash the peak of Jujutsu,  Domain Expansion. A Domain is a space constructed with cursed energy and imbued with an innate technique. Expanded Domains have multiple benefits besides the user specific techniques effect, the main one being its sure hit effect. Cursed Techniques used in a Domain are guaranteed to land, even nullifying other techniques in the process to ensure it hits. Another benefit is an upgrade in stats, increasing your cursed energy output like a home field advantage

This is the appearance of the dimension from the outside. The edge of a barrier can be shifted to remove an opponent, and as mentioned prior attacks in Domains will always hit the target. Domains can be countered via activating another Domain, or by techniques that nullify, such as Simple Domain. Escaping a Domain surrounded by a barrier is almost impossible, since the cubic volume inside is different from the cubic volume outside, making it extremely difficult to find the boundaries of the Domain while inside, especially while trying to survive the sure-hit sure-kill technique. However, the more the barrier is reinforced from the inside, the more vulnerable it is to penetration from the outside. The barrier of a Domain can also be used to crush people against other barriers.

Despite its numerous benefits, domains aren’t without their drawbacks. Using Domain Expansion consumes a huge amount of cursed energy, so much so that it becomes difficult to use cursed techniques for a while after casting one. Gojo himself has shown this drawback in his fight against the disaster curses (as shown with Hanami). While Gojo does have ways to potentially deal with this issue as mentioned in earlier sections, a drawback is still a drawback. Normally it would take days for a Sorcerer to regain the massive amount of Cursed Energy used to create a Domain. Gojo is an exception to this rule, as he was able to use his Domain five times against Sukuna and would have been able to pull off a sixth usage if not for accumulated damage to his brain from the fight. Domains also cannot affect humans who have zero cursed energy, as the barrier will not register them to be targeted by its Sure-Hit effect. Lastly, sufficient damage done to the caster of the Domain will cause it to collapse.

Info Dump

Gojo's Domain brings both him and his opponent into the Limitless itself where an infinite amount of information begins to flood the target's mind, completely overwhelming their thoughts and senses along with forcing actions like seeing or thinking to be carried out an infinite number of times. This overload on the body and mind puts the opponent in a state where they're completely immobilized and vulnerable. Even brief glances into the endless amount of information are enough to stun curses as strong as Sukuna. Every 0.2 seconds in the Domain dumps about six months worth of information into a target's brain. This timeframe would leave normal humans catatonic for two months and leave special grade Curses incapacitated for a bit over five minutes.

Based on his 0.2 showing we know that just a single second of being inside his domain would send 2.5 years worth of information into the target’s brain, immobilizing them for possibly up to 25 minutes, and that’s just a single second (this is in regards to Curses, who are less affected by UV. Normal humans would die from this much exposure). The effect of Unlimited Void can be nullified by touching Gojo inside the barrier (though this will be difficult due to Infinity). It is also possible to redirect the information overload done by the Domain, as Sukuna was able to redirect it into Megumi’s soul within his body.

Speaking of the 0.2 showing, Gojo has shown the ability to adapt on the fly with the properties of his domain. He has shortened its activation period in his fight with the disaster curses, this method seems to have a faster activation then the normal version which is backed up by Mahito’s 0.2 version. He can also change the properties of the Domain’s size and durability; in his fight with Sukuna he swapped the durability of his Domain’s inside and outside, along with changing the size from being as large as a city block to as small as a basketball. The compressed version of Unlimited Void overcomes the weakness of all Domains, in that its exterior barrier is weaker than the interior. Compressed UV could withstand being attacked Sukuna’s Domain for three minutes, whereas the regular version collapsed in seconds. Gojo can also expand the barrier of his Domain to encompass hundreds of meters, though doing this will severely weaken the durability of it.

All of this makes Unlimited Void an extremely powerful tool in his arsenal, working as a great option for incapacitating an opponent, damaging their mind, or setting up an attack. As with most Domains, landing it would likely mean a win for Gojo in most fights.

Resistances

Will Manipulation: Gojo can quickly break out of Hanami’s flower garden, which reduces one’s will to fight.

Soul Manipulation: Nanami, a jujutsu sorcerer below Gojo, was able to resist Mahito's idle transfiguration, which warps the soul of the target.

Time Stop: Limitless can function in realms where time doesn’t flow, keeping skeletal beings away from Gojo inside. Additionally, Gojo can also think and speak while time isn’t flowing.

Extreme Heat: Unharmed by Jogo’s extreme temperatures, even inside his Domain. Sorcerers like Naobito and Nanami can survive in Jogo's presence when he is angry, who can passively char the body of a man and vaporize even the ashes of the bodies of dozens just by moving his finger. Jogo is also able to instantly vaporize metal with a casual attack, while against Sorcerers he is only able to cause large burns that lead to death.

Foreign Intrusions: Due to the body being like a living Domain, foreign intrusions cannot manifest in the body. They must enter the body via piercing the skin or be breathed inside, like toxins.

Makima

Devil Physiology

Devils in Chainsaw Man are creatures born via the fear of a specific concept, and embody it. The thing that makes Devils more powerful than the others is their name; mainly how feared that name is. Thus, if you have a name that is feared by many, you would become powerful, but the opposite would happen if your name is feared little to none. Boosts in this manner increase all stats, including speed, as shown with the Gun Devil. Makima is the Control Devil and embodies the fear of being controlled. This grants Makima super strength, speed, and durability.

Makima, as a Devil, also has a healing factor. All Devils have the ability to heal via consuming blood, and even a small bit of blood can regrow lost limbs. Devils can also revive from death if given blood right after they die. Devils also have a form of immortality. If a devil were to be killed in our world, they would be reborn in Hell. If they were to die in Hell, they would lose prior memories and be reborn again on our world, making it a never-ending cycle. Lastly, mostly as a last resort if anything, Makima can possess the dead bodies of others and become a fiend and live that way.

Enhanced Senses

All Devils/Fiends have enhanced senses, like smell, to a degree. Makima's scent however, is a bit better and more useful than most others. She can smell the difference between humans and Devils, tell them apart, and track them. Denji even believed she discerned people based on their scents and nothing else. She should also be similar/better to other characters who can smell/track people's scents, and some can even do this from over a mile away. She was also able to hear Quanxi and Kishibe’s conversation from kilometers away.

She can view Pochita’s actions while he is in space, and she is on Earth. She can see the Gun Devil in perfect detail from 500 kilometers away, and listen in on Reze and Denji's conversation in the middle of a thunderstorm (possibly through birds or other animals). She can even converse with the Spider Devil when the latter was in Hell, a separate dimension, while Makima herself was on Earth. She can also retain information of events that have been literally erased from history by the Chainsaw Devil, such as World War III, AIDS, etc, even though no one else on the planet recalls these events ever occurring.

Levitation

Makima is able to tower above those who she believes to be below her, both literally and figuratively with her ability to float. Somehow.

Contracts

As a Devil, Makima is able to make Contracts with others. In the world of Chainsaw Man, contracts are pacts made between individuals, and both parties must honor the terms, or else be killed. Typically Devil Hunters make contracts with Devils in order to use their powers to fight more hostile Devils. Usually giving something to the Devil in exchange for its power. For example, a Devil Hunter called Himeno gave up her eye in order to use the Ghost Devil’s arm for combat.

Due to Control (details in a bit) however, Makima is able to freely abuse the system. She can make someone gain nothing at all in exchange for their servitude towards her. This allows her to utilize the powers of Devils that others have made their own Contracts with for whatever she pleases. Those forced into contract belong to Makima, mind and body. Makima can summon her contractors to her location from anywhere across the world and can control their corpses. Those who are under contract seem to have no personality and simply carry out Makima’s will.

Control

Being the Control Devil, Makima has the ability to control those she deems weaker or lesser to her. She has used this on humans, devils, fiends and even animals like rats and birds. meaning it isn’t limited to one species. She can control those by making contracts, simply telling someone to do something for her, or as shown by the next Control Devil, Nayuta, she can use a chain to hit their target (though based on Makima’s showings a direct physical chain definitely is not necessary). Control can work in many different ways.

The main way is a form of mind control. When under her control Makima can summon and control fiends and hunters to fight for her. She has also shown to control the actions of others through simple Yachie-like commands. This was done on both Aki and the prime minister of Japan where Makima forced both to make a contract with her. She can also manipulate the memories of others like the Angel Devil and most notably Yoru, The War Devil. Yoru was actually able to remember events and devils after Pochita erased other devils’ conceptual existence and any memories of them. However, as shown by Nayuta, Control was able to erase her memories still.

She also rewrote the personality of several hybrids, including Reze and Quanxi, who normally despise her. Lastly, Control has shown it can manipulate a person’s senses like someone's tastes, and it can most likely control the other senses of a person as well. Control can also work on dead bodies, as shown by Makima to control the contractor of the Hell Devil

Despite its potency, Control has a weakness. The mental control can be broken out, as shown by Angel and Power. However, both instances had context. Angel was only able to undo control’s hold on him after being shown the exact scenario Makima did on him years back being done on Aki. Makima immediately put Angel back under the effect of Control and placed him under a Contract, which cannot be broken out of.

Likewise Power broke out via a rush of memories involving Denji, who she was protecting via a contract with Pochita. It may also be possible Pochita existing inside Power at that time might have contributed to her resistance, but is merely speculation. Regardless, it is very difficult to break out of Control considering it took Angel years to break out of his initial memory rewrite, and Yoru could not break out of its influence (even with her memory resistance).

The Humans and Devils she has under her Control will be listed in the support section below.

Biological Manipulation

Makima has shown the ability to mess with human biology, which is most likely an extension of Control. She has shown this by making a person severely bleed from the inside by just a simple stare, seemingly killing him. She has also shown the ability to manipulate her brain tissue to make a crown, which can act as a portal she can summon devils or weapons out of. This is ablity is similiar to that of the Darkness Devil, which caused hemorrhaging to Aki and Angel

Animal Control

Another method and use of Control Makima has is her ability to use the hearing, and potentially other senses, of "lower life-forms" to listen in on conversations or get information on other people; namely birds, rats, and other animals. She has also shown she can turn into a pack of rats and back from them…yeah not sure how that works. She used this ability to travel to Reze’s location and intercept her before she reached Denji.

Immortality Contract

As a result of forcing the Prime Minister of Japan into a contract with her, any and all attacks made on her person will be transferred to a random citizen of Japan in the form of common illnesses and accidents. Essentially, you will have to deal all of Japan's worth in wounds or kills to actually get rid of Makima, and in 1997 (The year Chainsaw Man takes place) the population of Japan at the end of the year was 126,011,000.

This obviously makes her effectively immortal, and her contract has shown the capability to heal her from being shot in the head (twice actually), impalement alongside her arm getting crushed, being riddled with machine gun fire, bisection, several internal impalements by Power, deep slashes across her body, and reattaching her head/limbs/upper torso to each other via her blood pulling her body back together. Almost all of this happens in seconds by the way. Makima can also heal from a mine bomb as noted by Denji. And as noted by Kishibe, even though Makima was cut into pieces and made into food, Makima had a good chance of coming back. Hell, Denji even had to eat her HAIR to ensure this would work. He is just like Deku FR.

While there are moments in series where the contract seems to have a time frame for its healing process (such as her death by Pochita in the hallway in chapter 85), Makima can speed up the process by directly transferring wounds she receives to anyone who is contracted under her. She also has used her contract for surprise attacks, catching several gunmen off guard after they thought they had killed her. It might also be possible for the contract to redirect mental attacks, as a similar type of contract owned by Santa was stated to be able to do so. Santa’s contract merely shifted mental attacks to her proxies, but this example at least proves redirection type contracts are capable of doing so.

Her contract is also one of the most visibly impressive healing factors/means of immortality we see in the series, and as such, she would likely compare to the following done by similar or inferior characters, which would include…

Other Devil Immortality Capabilities

Dismemberment - Countless Devils, Hybrids, and Fiends across the series can heal from getting their limbs crushed, slashed, or blasted off. Some need blood for this trick to work, but the majority of higher-up threats do not. This also works with sealed off wounds as well, as shown with the Bat Devil.

Decapitation - Multiple Devils and Fiends can have their heads cut off and remain conscious, as well as still use their powers, or regrow their entire body from just the head and some blood. These include the Leech Devil, Eternity Devil, Bomb Hybrid/Reze, Crossbow Hybrid/Quanxi, and Hell Devil. This also happens to Denji. Several times actually.

Bisection/Severe Mutilation - In the most powerful Regeneration feats thus far, we've seen a few Devils and the like regenerate from half of their body or more getting removed or destroyed, yet blood can regrow it all. This ranges from Katana Man healing from getting slashed in half, to Denji coming back from getting his legs/lower torso blasted off or even getting diced into pieces another time, to Santa Claus getting several dozen holes blasted in her body, to even Denji getting all of his limbs destroyed and torso charred to a crisp, and coming back moments later good as new. Most impressively, Pochita could, after getting blasted into space by Makima, rip out his heart and throw it back through orbit, regenerating his entire body from it in mere seconds.

Despite the immortality the contract gives, it has a few weaknesses. First, the contract works off the perception of the target attempting to harm Makima. If an opponent killed Makima while lacking the intent to harm, the contract would be negated via loophole. This is how Denji was able to kill her. Second, the healing provided by the contract can be slowed down by continuous attacks. Repeated internal attacks from Power’s blood or repeated shootings from the Anti Makima Squad were able to keep her down longer than her usual healing time frames (though Power was far more effective).

Bang

Why this image. Whoever used it sucks. Oh wait-

One of Makima's trademark abilities, she can project an invisible force at a target, most commonly through pointing at them with her index finger, but can also be used for crushing, to inflict damage. The range for this ability appears to be incredibly good and reach at least hundreds of kilometers, as she could keep using it as the Chainsaw Devil was approaching outer space. The force is strong enough to completely blow apart bodies and damage devils, and continuous Bangs could even cause bleeding from the Chainsaw Devil himself when blasting him out of orbit. It has also been applied like legitimate Telekinesis against the Darkness Devil, and heavily damaged it as well (despite it having a spatial barrier).

Death Ritual

Upon arriving at an area of sufficient enough altitude, Makima is able to perform a ritual. This is done by gathering various blindfolded people to act as human sacrifices and to say the name of a person of her choosing. Once the parameters have been met, the sacrifice dies and the target is promptly crushed leaving only splatters of blood behind. The shrine Makima chose to conduct the ritual at is Omiya Shrine, one of the oldest shrines in Japan.

Resistances

Transmutation: Devils are naturally immune to the effects of the Doll Devil dolls, which normally turn whatever they touch into, well, dolls. Not toy dolls though, more like terrifying mannequins.

Memory Manipulation: Makima and all the four horsemen were able to still remember all of history that was erased by Pochita when no one else could

Mind Manipulation: Other Devils like the War Devil Yoru are not affected by mental attacks from the Falling Devil, whereas normal people are instantly affected. Additionally Makima might be able to redirect mental attacks via her contract like Santa can. It is also possible Makima might be able to fight off mental attacks by affecting her own brain with her biological manipulation. Denji showed this method is possible, as he scrambled his own brain with his saws to fight off Falling Devil’s mental attacks.

Zombification: Devils are able to unaffected by being bitten by zombies, will turn humans into zombies.

Support

Gojo

He is not the one who gets jumped.

He is the one who jumps.

Makima

Due to her nature as the Control Devil, Makima is capable of controlling and summoning a vast army consisting of both normal people, Devil Hunters, former foes and uh, let’s just pretend they were friends.

Devils and Fiends

Makima has a large army of devils at her disposal via controlling people who have contracts with other Devils or can just control the devils themselves. She can also control and summon fiends, devils that have escaped death by possessing a human corpse. The long list of Devils include…

Makima has taken most Devil Hunters under her contract and drags them with the chains, which includes some decently powerful devils.

The Mold Devil is able to affect a target’s internal organs to grow a mold and make them bleed from inside out. It only affects living beings, however.

The Stone Devil, contracted by Kusakabe, is able to create a circle around him and while blowing wind through a circle with his fingers, petrifies opponents.

The Mantis Devil is a Devil strong enough to cut apart power in her Devil form (Respect Mantids)

Aki Hayakawa/Future Devil/Fox Devil/Curse Devil

Aki was one of Makima’s highest ranking Devil Hunters and one of the most devoted people to her. Aki has made three contracts. The first was with the Fox Devil. With the Fox devil Aki can make a hand gesture and summon the devil to eat up the respective target.

The second one was with the Curse Devil. The Curse Devil will mortally wound those who the user stabs three times. After the third stab the Curse Devil will pick the person stabbed up and crushes and bites at them. However everytime this is used the user lifespan will be shortened

The third is the Future Devil. Any who are contracted with this Devil can see into the future for an edge in combat via precognition. Aki in particular has used this to combat the Ghost Devil and Bomb Hybrid/Reze, both of whom were a lot faster than him. He does this via seeing "a few seconds'' into the future, which is refuted a few other times as well. Even more absurd is how the Future Devil can tell you your death date/future via sticking your head into his chest. While the exact limits aren't shown, he has precisely predicted deaths multiple months in advance on 2 separate occasions.

Akane Sawatari/Snake Devil

Hailing from the many, MANY things to fear in the Animal Kingdom is the Snake Devil, and its contractor, Akane Sawatari. Akane was a girl that worked with the Yakuza for a while, and formed a contract with the Snake Devil as a result. The Snake Devil acts as a summon which Akane can bring into battle by sacrificing one fingernail per use. It can attack with its tail or devour an opponent in one go, then later, spit out the devils it’s devoured to fight for Akane; such as with the Ghost Devil. However it’s likely we only ever saw a small amount of the Snake Devils power in Akane’s hands, as after she died and Makima took control of her, the Snake Devil along with a few other devils was capable of defeating the infamous Gun Devil.

Princi/Spider Devil

The Spider Devil is the fear those have of Spiders. It can climb walls like a spider can, phase through the ground, and it has a unique ability that allows them to transport others once she opens her zipper through Dimensions. This is shown when it transports Makima to Hell.

Angel Devil

One of Makima's first victims, the Angel Devil is rather unique in that he isn't hostile towards humans. Ironic, considering his power lets him drain and siphon the life span of any human he touches. Mere grasps over a few seconds can steal two months, as shown with Aki, and he can also turn the life he steals into weapons. These include several swords, spears, and the like, ranging from 10 to 1000 years in potency of attack power. Makima herself can use these, and likely excel given her knowledge in swordsmanship. The weapons made also have an added feature, in that they can touch/harm Ghosts, and some weapons might have the ability to drain life entirely of the victims they phase through. His strongest weapons have managed to mortally wound Pochita (albeit he was weakened at the time) and the Punishment Devil's weapons possibly being his meant they were likely effective on the Gun Devil himself.

Yutaro Kurose & Michiko Tendo/Punishment Devil

From the Limitless pile of corpses Makima has at her disposal is the duo of Yurato Kurose and Michiko Tendo. Both were shot and killed at an earlier date and their bodies were re-used in this instance to summon the Punishment Devil. While its powers are unknown, the Punishment Devil appears to be a multi-bodied giant comparable in size to the Gun Devil at the time. It carries several weapons, like axes, knives, amd swords [potentially from Angel] but most impressively, it was used to torture and damage Gun enough that it had to hide in Aki's body and become a fiend to survive.

Zombie Devil

Coming from the other end of the monster gene pool is Zombies, or more accurately the Zombie Devil. This Devil can turn people, dead or alive, into Zombies to do its bidding until their undeath. These Zombies can also duplicate themselves by biting other people, or be revived again, and Makima has taken advantage of all of these factors by reviving the corpses of her fallen comrades/slaves so she can use their powers and contracts. Also, Killing the Zombie Devil won't entirely do the job, as it was killed by Denji in the very first Episode/Chapter of the series, and revived later in Makima's army. Even if the Zombie Devil were to be taken off the playing field, its Zombies will still be alive and viable for any of the above purposes, like using Fiend/Devil powers or contracts with Devils.

Beam/Shark Fiend

Baby shark do do do do do do

The Shark Fiend, or Beam as he is most commonly called, has the powers of a shark, like an incredible bite force and enhanced smell, enough to recognize select Devils. Beam can alter his body and shape the form as a shark. He also has the ability to phase/swim through objects, like through walls, the ground, or floor of an area.

Violence Fiend

If you're interested in the rough and tumble ready to tumble type of fighters, say hello to the Violence Fiend. He's a rather skilled hand-to-hand fighter, enough to earn compliments from Reze, and such a powerhouse he has to be handicapped with a poison mask to be kept in line. Should the mask be removed, his violent urges will take over, as will his unyielding strength, and he will turn into a nigh-unstoppable titan who can still trek on despite even severe mutilation, only dying once he was chopped into pieces by the Darkness Devil. Of note, he also retains his human body's memories and personality in a sense, making him more human than the rest of his Fiend co-workers.

Hell Devil

The embodiment of the fear of Hell itself, the Hell Devil is an absurdly powerful monster. Makima has shown to sacrifice others before in order to have it help her out via contract, and should be capable of sacrificing enough people to fully summon it to help her in battle. She technically contracted it once by sacrificing the corpse of Tolka.

The Hell Devil is naturally very powerful, though its main use in a fight is its ability to directly grab and force people into Hell. Hell in Chainsaw Man is an entirely separate dimension with no exit. Being sent there is basically a death sentence unless one were to make a contract with the Hell Devil or force it into letting the person out.

Gun Devil

The embodiment of the fear of Guns; and one of the mightiest Devils in existence because of it. It was strengthened by countless gun-related incidents years ago, along with a terrorist attack in the USA, but captured and split up soon after. Eventually it was released and contracted by the President to kill Makima, who defeated it all the same. Afterwards the implication is that she made it take over Aki Hayawaka’s body in order to mentally scar Denji, meaning she had possession of it. Thus it is fair to give it to her in this fight. Makima also owns the portions of the Gun Devil Japan has in its custody.

The Gun Devil possesses absurd strength and speed, enough to race around the world and slaughter millions in mere minutes, leaving a trail of death and destruction that renders entire cities to rubble. Its body is also composed of multiple firearms, and it can use those to fire off ranged gunshots over 500 kilometers away. It's superior to virtually every Devil and attack in the series save for the Primal Devils, Denji/Pochita, and Makima’s Bang.

Devil Hybrids

Makima also has a handful of Devil Hybrids under her Control. Devil Hybrids are different then Devils and Fiends as they’re fully immortal as long as the Devil they are contracted with are alive. Because of this Hybrids can come back from just about anything with a bit of blood. This is shown several times like Kitana Man coming back from being cut in half, Denji coming back from getting his whole body and limbs blown up, and finally Denji and Kitana Man were able to come back from the Curse Devil killing them. Makima has a few Hybrids which include:

Katana Man

A selfish and cruel hybrid who focused himself on a single goal, to take revenge on Denji for the death of his grandfather and take his heart. After being arrested, Katana Man was brainwashed by Makima, who later summoned him as a part of the newly formed Special Division 5, a team of weapon hybrids with the goal to fight the full-power Chainsaw Devil.

As a hybrid, Katana Man can remove his left hand from his body to reveal a katana which emerges from the stump, transforming himself into his hybrid form, gaining all of a hybrid's innate abilities and increased physical stats. Once transformed, Katana Man's main tools are manifested from both of arms and his head, that being, of course, his katanas. He’s strong and fast enough to contend with both the Ghost Devil (which normally is intangible) and Denji.

Flamethrower Hybrid

Barem Bridge, also known as the Flamethrower hybrid, is a rather cruel and callous hybrid. He can transform into the Flamethrower devil and turn his arms into two large flamethrowers that deal massive damage to anything that gets surrounded by the flame, even creating large explosions that burn multiple people.

Whip Hybrid

A simple Hybrid that is agile. She can transform into the whip devil with a simple snap of the finger, and use a multitude of whips on her arms to attack others with. She also seems to have some pretty impressive agility…and that's it.

Spear Hybrid

A man controlled by Makima. He can generate spears capable of piercing Denji and even Pochita, despite being weaker physically than both. Transformed/revived via pulling a spear out of his spinal column.

Longsword Hybrid

A simple hybrid that can swing at enemies with its well, longswords. He also helped Katana Man in a double slash move, implying the two are similar in power.

Again. Not much else to say.

Reze/Bomb Hybrid

A super-soldier raised in the USSR and an ally of the Gun Devil, Reze was sent to Japan for the mission of stealing Denji's heart, but ultimately failed. After her presumed "death" by the hands of Makima, Reze was abducted and brainwashed by Makima to serve her, later summoning her as a part of the newly formed Special Division 5, a team of weapon hybrids with the goal to fight the full-power Chainsaw Devil.

As a hybrid, Reze can pull the pin on her neck, much like a grenade, and cause herself to explode and transform into her hybrid form, gaining all of a hybrid's innate abilities and increased physical stats. Additionally, she can perform the same technique but in place of transformation, she blows her head off and leaves the rest of her body as a decoy to distract foes. The decoy is fully operational, and can hold its own head and throw it akin to a bomb, leading to an explosion. The headless decoy body is additionally capable of being fully remote controlled and acting as a bomb, catching unknowing opponents off guard.

Once Reze transforms into her hybrid form of a Bomb Devil, she gains the ability to generate and control powerful explosions. The explosions are powerful enough to easily destroy buildings, asphalt and the environment as a side-effect. The explosions' more powerful showings are shown with their capability to damage devils, such as the Shark Fiend, who's attack she could stop, defeat and leave incredibly injured in a single explosion from her palm, and Denji in his Hybrid Form, who she could also defeat through a blast after injuring him enough before. Reze does not take any damage from the explosions as long as she desires not to, allowing her to use her powers without the danger of harming herself in any way.

She mostly releases explosion blasts from the palms of her hands, which she can also use as an AoE attack. She can combine her physical strikes with explosions, making her punches and kicks leave powerful explosive force, for more ways to make her physical attacks stronger, she is capable of creating torpedoes on her limbs that leave powerful explosions. For long range, Reze can use her explosion powers in a way to create tiny sparks, said sparks functioning as projectiles she can shoot at someone, resulting in devastating explosions when hit by them. If Reze needs a little boost, she is also capable of using her explosions to propulse herself for much greater speed and mobility.

Quanxi/Crossbow Hybrid

An old partner of Kishibe, Quanxi was an unnaturally skilled and deadly fighter even as just a human; capable of winning a bare-knuckle brawling tournament with all of humanity. As the Crossbow Hybrid, she can fire a multitude of arrows from her hand crossbows. Each arrow is strong enough to blow the Darkness-enhanced Doll Devil to pieces, and critically injure Denji. Even as a normal human, Quanxi is capable of blitzing 4 Hybrids and can move faster than sound. Her speed is such that she was able to slice apart the heads of dozens of Dolls and Devil Hunters before they could register what was occurring, all while crossing dozens of meters. Just in her human state, she can overpower and outskill trained martial artists like Kishibe and Yoshida. By removing the arrow under the eyepatch, she can regenerate even from being a severed head.

Scaling

Gojo

Yuji Itadori

It’s a no-brainer that Gojo is superior to his own student. Yuji Itadori is a fellow Jujutsu sorcerer who starts off the series with a series of events after the death of his grandpa, he eats a finger! Yuji compared to the likes of Gojo who is the world’s strongest Jujutsu sorcerer simply doesn’t measure up. (In addition formally stated to be the strongest by the author before you know what occurred.) Early in Jujutsu Kaisen, Gojo is capable of going up against Itadori under Sukuna’s control, Sukuna is able to easily beat Yuji in his Domain meaning Sukuna is superior to Yuji. This all shows that it’s very blatant that the honored one easily upscales Yuji. (More scaling to Sukuna will be elaborated with further detail in his section)

Kashimo

Despite Gojo and Kashimo never directly trading blows in the series, it's very clear that Gojo should be at minimum equal to Kashimo's power and speed, seeing how one of his students, Kinji Hakari, traded equal blows with Kashimo and even got his respect.

Disaster Curses

Gojo has directly dominated Jogo and Hanami in fights in the past, and has had a direct confrontation with Kenjaku. Kenjaku(who’s stronger than all the disaster curses) also stated that he would not be able to defeat Gojo, hence why he needed to seal him away. Additionally Gojo was superior to the former owner of Kenjaku’s body, Geto. In conclusion, Gojo should logically be superior to everyone listed here.

Jogo

Hanami

Dagon

Sukuna

Below Gojo and Yuji, I alone am the fraudulent one.

For most of the series, Gojo has been considered superior to Sukuna, most notably toying with him in their first interaction. In their latest fight where it was nothing but pandemonium, Gojo lost the fight but still gave Sukuna plenty of trouble with his variety of techniques and skills, such as Hollow Purple and his adaptability, ultimately resulting in Sukuna giving respect to Gojo’s almighty strength and prowess.

Makima

Denji / Pochita

During the confrontation between Makima and Denji, both had gotten into a close quarters brawl with their pure physical strength. During this fight, both constantly exchange blows and visibly damage each other, tearing off limbs and spilling rivers of blood, as well as obviously keeping pace with each other. This fight resulted in Makima getting the upper hand and winning, tearing out Denji's heart. Makima could also apply enough telekinetic force to make the Chainsaw Devil / Denji's Hero Mode bleed and launch him into outer space, solidifying the scaling even more.

The latter example would not make her physical strength and durability on Hero Mode's level, as Hero Mode was able to effortlessly slice through her and her summoned devils. However, she was able to damage the form with Bang, meaning that move specifically should at the very least downscale.

The Gun Devil

The Gun Devil scaling is a weird mess. It was stated before that the Devil Hunters have defeated the Gun Devil, however the context on this is almost nonexistent. Luckily, Makima scaling is not that complex, as she was able to make the Darkness Devil bleed and keep pace with it, which is important as it was stated that the Darkness Devil is far above the Gun Devil. Keep in mind this only scales to Makima’s speed and Bang attack as the Darkness Devil was able to overpower Makima physically.

Bang scaling is further backed up by her drawing blood from Pochita with it, who is well above the gun devil as he is the most feared devil. It is also worth noting that in terms of her army, the Snake Devil and Punishment Devil would scale as it was used by Makima to defeat the 20% Gun Devil, and Makima also has control over the 20% Gun Devil who should obviously scale to well… itself.

Various Devils, Fiends, and Humans

Makima in general should be around every other Devil and Fiend, via normally and because of Bang as she was able to kill other characters before, like Reze and Quanxi. She has also beaten Denji/Pochita in base form who is already equal to a lot of other characters, so scaling is pretty straightforward here.

Primal Devils

(Art by Dueiieh)

Primal Devils are the top dogs of the world of Chainsaw Man. They represent the most primal fears of mankind, and as such are the most feared among all Devils, Due to their power, not a single one of these Devils have ever died. Primals are noted as being beyond any version of the Gun Devil. Despite being inferior to Primals, Makima has been able to clash with the Darkness Devil and even wound it. Likewise her sister Fami has been able to fully control the Primal known as the Falling Devil.

Weaknesses

Gojo

Sussy Baka

Despite his genius battle prowess and the absurd ability that is Limitless, Gojo is not untouchable. While his energy reserves are absurd and can be maintained via Reverse Cursed Technique and Six Eyes, they can eventually run out were a fight to drag on too long or his Domain Expansion overused. On the topic of Reverse Cursed Technique, while it does provide Gojo with very potent recovery, it is by no means a perfect remedy to all damage. Enough damage will end up killing him, just like his death (as far as we know anyways) against the fraudulent one Sukuna. In particular, considering RCT comes from the brain, too much damage to it will prevent Gojo from healing and put an end to him, though it is worth noting Gojo can heal damage to it.

Also, as incredibly overpowered as it is, Limitless is not a truly perfect defense. Attacks that can ignore distance will bypass it, as well as less direct attacks like toxins.

Makima

While Makima is incredibly perceptive and considered unbeatable by many in the world of Chainsaw Man, she is not flawless. Her physical durability is not anything too unbelievable, and while her regeneration is nigh endless and quick, it is not instant, and she can be overwhelmed. Not to mention that it has not shown to be able to bring her back from having her body being completely obliterated.

Due to her immortality, Makima also has a habit of allowing attacks to hit her regardless of any consequences since she’ll recover from them anyway, so oftentimes she won’t be concerned about getting hit repeatedly with fatal wounds. If someone lacks Makima’s interest, she is also likely to underestimate them and not think of them as much of a threat, resulting in a potential opening. This is what led to Denji being able to land a critical blow on her and Makima’s demise at the end of Chainsaw Man Part 1.

Before the Verdicts

Cursed Energy vs Devils

To address this quickly, beyond verse equalization, JJK and CSM’s power systems are very similar. Both gain boosts from negative emotions (for Cursed Energy and for Devils), and contracts/binding vows are very close in function and consequences.

Curses are noted to also be born from fears of certain things, such as the smallpox curse being born from the fear of disease. Mahito explains that Jogo and the other Special Grade Curses are born of fear of natural disasters. Curses being born from fear and being empowered by it is further affirmed in the JJK light novel. Likewise, Devils in Chainsaw Man are the embodiment of fear of certain concepts, defined by their name, through the collective unconsciousness of mankind. The more the namesake of a Devil becomes feared, the more powerful they become.

Devil Contracts and Binding Vows are very close in function and in consequences. Bindings are the pledges and restrictions that you make with yourself and others. The punishment for breaking one is severe, possibly even death. They are self-imposed restrictions by which a person can sacrifice one thing in order to gain something else, similar to the law of equivalent exchange. Devils can form contracts with humans, giving a part of their power to them. The contract must be followed, lest the one who breaks it die.

Overall, the systems for both are practically one to one.

Is Hollow Purple Existence Erasure?

An argument for Gojo getting past Makima’s absurd regeneration is Hollow Purple being Existence Erasure, letting him erase Makima from existence with one powerful attack and thus letting him bypass the contract. While obliterating Makima could be argued to be a win condition (details in both Q&A and Verdicts), Hollow Purple would not be such a hard counter. While it can be argued to erase matter due to being called “Imaginary Mass”, it is shown having force, picking up dust, leaving debris, etc. It is more likely that Hollow Purple is just a really, really, really strong energy attack. Thus, not existence erasure.

What’s the deal with Hakari’s Lightning Dodge?

During the fight between Hakari and Kashimo, at one point Hakari moves fast enough to move in tandem with Kashimo’s electricity, preventing it from blasting his head off. As Gojo is regarded as the fastest sorcerer, he would naturally scale to this. A big point of contention however is the speed of the lightning itself, which can result in Hakari’s necessary speed here varying drastically.

Listed above, there was a Mach 4760 calc, assuming a lightning speed of 440,000 meters per second. The issue with this calculation however is that it is using the speed of lightning when it is descending from clouds, which is the highest possible speed. Lightning can actually vary a lot depending on air density, due to air acting as an insulator enabling movement. Despite Kashimo’s lightning being heavily implied to be lightning, it can be argued that assuming it is moving at the max possible speed it can travel would be too generous and unrealistic. The safest possible calc uses the basic speed of normal electricity, and gets Hakari’s speed to Mach 11.

Narratively, thousands of times mach speed Hakari would also be extremely narratively inconsistent with the rest of the fight. Kashimo’s electricity is faster than Hakari at most other points in their fight. Typically lightning is roughly around the mach 200 range, which is obviously significantly slower than the higher ends of the calc. If Hakari was so much faster than lightning, him being blitzed by it elsewhere in the fight would be rather illogical, this could also possibly be an issue with this specific calc rather than the feat but we lack another calc using lightning speed to say.

Planet JJK?

In Chapter 208, Yuki Tsukumo, in a last ditch effort to take down Kenjaku, uses her cursed technique to create a black hole. Said black hole was calculated at Large Planet Level, and is supported by Kenjaku himself saying it could have destroyed the world. So, what's the exact problem with saying Gojo would simply scale to Yuki and thus the black hole? First, we must understand how exactly Yuki's cursed technique works. Yuki's cursed technique, Star Rage, allows her to add "virtual mass" to herself and her shikigami, Garuda. Said mass doesn't affect herself, but only up to a certain density, that being the density of the black hole, which erases her upon being created.

So what's wrong with Gojo scaling to Yuki's cursed technique? It would be because of the actual trigger of the feat through Yuki's cursed technique. While the black hole itself is created by her, Kenjaku realized that it's because her technique has no limits to the mass she can add, which is why she could add so much mass at once to create a black hole. The reasoning for the mass only affecting her in this density is because of the black hole of course. While Gojo should definitely be above the power of Yuki's capabilities on her own, saying that he could scale to a technique that has no limits and only affected Yuki due to her not being comparable to the power of the black hole it created is somewhat shaky.

Now of course, the black hole didn't destroy everything. Kenjaku himself survived and even said that Tengen and Yuki massively held it back. Otherwise the planet would've gone boom, but as Kenjaku explains, he took a gamble with his specific cursed technique instead of surviving the black hole head on. And since Yuki controls the mass, it's probably what Kenjaku was referring to in how she "held it back". But then there's Tengen, who held it back with his barriers. However, that has to consider the fact that Tengen IS the most potent barrier user amongst all Jujutsu Sorcerers, even above Kenjaku. The only reason he did not beat him directly is that he doesn't fight through combat techniques, and also evolved past his humanity into something greater that resembles a cursed spirit, making him weak to Kenjaku's cursed spirit manipulation.

Bang: What is it?

(Credit to Nya Animations)

Bang is Makima’s favorite attack to use in combat. It seems to be a crushing force that kills targets. Bang is sometimes drawn with what seems to be speed lines. When used on the Darkness Devil, it simply manifested on its body without travel, bypassing the defensive barrier it has. The Darkness Devil used a similar technique to crush the Violence Fiend and Denji, with the latter being depicted as TK. The Darkness Devil actually has a similar powerset to Makima (both are also equally vague), as shown with its own Biological Manipulation used on Aki and Angel. To be fair, whether this is Bang being used here in the first place is debated. Makima does not say “Bang” (though the name of the technique would debut 15 chapters when she kills Power). Despite this, Makima points to start the attack, which is only ever used for Bang.

It's quite possible for it to be either an invisible concussive attack (considering it leaves impact force, like the crater in the wall after behind Power in chapter 81), or a form of telekinesis. When used on herself, it shoots blood from a wound on the hand, almost like a bullet. Telekinesis should not be traveling as a projectile, which is what makes that option so contested.

Given split opinions on how Bang works, see Verdicts below for each side’s take on the technique.

What are the limits to Makima’s regeneration/immortality?

Makima’s regeneration is incredibly potent. The question is exactly how potent. We have seen Makima come back from having a hole blasted through her brain, so she should not need her brain in order to regenerate. We have seen her be able to reattach her severed heads or limbs, but we have also seen her grow new flesh when parts of her body are completely obliterated. So were a part of her body to be annihilated, she can just regrow the destroyed part rather than reattach it.

The big question is how much of her body left does Makima need to be able to regenerate, and how fast can she regenerate. The latter is far less complicated, so we will start with her regeneration speed. We have seen her get back into fights immediately after being decapitated and sliced up, though there she could simply reattach what got damaged. When Makima had a decently large hole blasted through her head, it took less than a second for the lost part of it to be replaced. Considering that speed, it likely would not take Makima that long whatsoever if her whole head was obliterated. Having a leg or her chest obliterated would likely not take more than ten seconds. Essentially, time should not be too much of an issue for Makima when it comes to regenerating unless she is heavily blitzed, but speed talk is for verdicts, not this section.

Now back to the former question, how much of her body does Makima need intact to regenerate? As established before, she does not need her brain. She has come back from being cut into pieces by Pochita before, so she can definitely come back from being blasted into chunks. Further than that though is subjective. Higher arguments will be mentioned here, with respective arguments supporting or opposing said higher arguments being reserved for verdicts.

At the end of Part 1, Kishibe claims that Denji’s idea of killing Makima by eating all of her should not have worked. He said this after she had already been reduced to pieces, to the point where she could fit in food. Implying that, somehow, she was still alive. Denji’s method even required that Makima’s hair be put in the food, implying that even that had to be consumed in order to prevent her regeneration. This is weirdly consistent with the fact that after the Gun Devil blasted a hole through her head, Makima’s lost hair was also regenerated. These details could imply that Makima could regenerate from as little as a strand of hair.

On a final note, something that both teams agree on is that Makima should not be able to regenerate if her entire body is completely eradicated. She has never shown the capability to come back from full disintegration, with no evidence to support that she could come back from that level of destruction. In the possibility she could, there most likely would be a timeframe. It was still daytime when Denji cut her up into pieces, and yet hours later she still has not regenerated (Power’s blood was gone by this time). Full body erasure would take even longer to come back from, making it an unreliable option in this fight.

Makima's control abilities are supposedly mistranslated?

Makima's explanation for how her powers work has been recently questioned on the validity of its translation. The way it's phrased in Japanese is a little ambiguous but leans towards it being that she controls people she considers lesser. If you look up 私は自分より皋床が䜎いず思う者を支配で きる力がありたす you can find posts talking about it in Japanese: "I can dominate those I consider lesser in degree than myself.".

Here's a Japanese blog post analyzing the manga that references this scene and cleanly describes it as being based on those she considers lesser. Furthermore Control working off the perception of the target does not narratively make sense. If this was the case, Nayuta would have never been able to control Yoru or the Justice Devil in chapter 131. It also does not fall in line with Makima’s plan to beat Pochita to control him. Why would Pochita see himself as inferior to Makima?

The official translation is the most accurate.

Would Makima controlling Gojo be in-character?

As many of you know, from both previous arguments regarding this match up as well as the 2022 blog, the main argument for Gojo resisting Control in the past has been his status in the world of Jujutsu Kaisen. He raised the average power level by existing, became a new ceiling, etc etc. The argument is that due to all his impressive traits and qualities, Makima would not see herself as superior to Gojo, and would feel the need to properly defeat him in combat to assert dominance and gain Control over his mind.

The big flaw regarding this argument however is Makima’s knowledge of Gojo. With the two meeting up in a theoretical versus scenario where neither has any prior knowledge about the other, Makima would know nothing of Gojo’s accomplishments and status. While Gojo when he was younger was shown to be able to scare hitmen with a simple glare, which could be used to argue that his presence alone would impress Makima, this alone is not enough of an argument. Similar cases of characters having imposing presences have existed in Chainsaw Man, including both potent humans like Quanxi or absurdly strong monsters such as the Darkness Devil. Now obviously, Makima did not Control these characters. But that is not the point. The point is Gojo simply being intimidating is nothing noteworthy compared to what Makima has seen in the past. In fact, she herself can be just as intimidating as Gojo can be. Thus, Gojo simply being “scary” is not enough of an argument to say that Makima would see him as above her.

One could argue that it does not actually take that much to convince Makima someone is impressive enough to the point where she would not control them though, with the main example being her interaction with Kishibe after Chainsaw Man got sent to Hell. There, she merely elaborated on why Chainsaw Man was so great and her goal to control him, not doing anything to Kishibe. This could imply that she respects Kishibe enough to the point where she would not Control him. However the simple counter argument here is that she simply just did not care for him. He was of no threat to her, as she elaborated when he first pointed a gun at her. And on that note, why did she not control all the Devil Hunters sent to attack her before their conversation? It is not like she would see random unnamed Devil Hunters as anything impressive. The simple answer as to why she did not control Kishibe is that she did not feel the need, or did not care.

In conclusion, Makima would not hesitate to use Control against Gojo. She would have no reason to view him highly due to lack of knowledge on him prior to the fight, and her instances of not controlling others does not mean Gojo’s aura alone would be enough to convince her of his power.

Cyber’s Take

Makima is rather inconsistent when implementing Control on strong opponents. Rather than Control the 20% Gun Devil right off the bat, she chooses to battle it, and has to bring out six other controlled minions to do so properly. She even notes she had no other choice than to Control Aki and Angel for the confrontation that was about to happen.

Also despite not seemingly holding the Darkness Devil in the same regard as Pochita, she still cannot Control it, and ends up losing the fight with it, only escaping by using the Hell Devil

She also opts not to Control Kishibe, despite him being vastly weaker than her. This even considering he almost succeeded in sending her to Hell literally minutes prior.

She also doesn't take control of Reze until she's completely defeated (even bringing along Angel to beat her) and you can make the same argument for Quanxi.

Makima rather consistently does not take over “strong” opponents until she has beaten them in combat. Gojo easily falls under this category given his sheer overwhelming might.

That said most of these can be excused:

  1. Makima respects Kishibe, which is hinted at in the series early on.

  2. She does not control Reze or Quanxi initially so as not to blow her cover. She has yet to be revealed as the Control Devil narratively at this point.

  3. It is very likely she does not view Darkness Devil as inferior to herself. She barely escapes a fight with it and even comments that beating Santa amped by a piece of it would be difficult.

Did Makima resist Halloween?

Upon re-reading chapter 70, it was discovered Yoshida and Kishibe are right behind Makima when Cosmos supposedly tried using Halloween. Neither are affected mentally in any way, which suggests Cosmos did in fact not use the move here on Makima. There is no evidence she was exposed to the ability, as Quanxi gave up on fighting back and did not order for it to be used.

Makima dying to bullets….

I cannot believe we have to discuss this but apparently this has been pushed recently on forums. Makima dies in the series several times from bullets. Does this mean she is fodder?

No. Chainsaw Man as a series has poor showings of piercing durability. The only characters to block bullets are Denji’s transformed head and blades (they still go into his body), and Angel’s wings (though this caused him some pain). Heck even the god tier of durability, Pochita, struggles with piercing attacks from Spear Hybrid and Angel’s 1000 years weapon spear (and yet is perfectly fine slamming through two skyscrapers). When it comes to striking force, Makima has survived a rocket launcher with minimal damage and taken blows from Pochita acting as Denji. Denji has consistently been shown with dealing building busting attacks, and beating said threats. Gojo lacks any real piercing attacks, with all of his attacks being force based.

Team Gojo

Stats

When looking at the stats for both Gojo and Makima, you’d quickly see that both combatants have calcs that place them within the megaton range. With the highest calcs for both, Makima scales to the likes of the Typhoon, Falling and Gun Devils. The storm feat from the Typhoon Devil reaches 10.6 kilotons. The Falling Devil reaches a large 222.8 kilotons with its planetary gravity powers. However, the most impressive is the different ranges from the Gun Devil. The calc for the kinetic energy for the Gun Devil at 20% which rates at 68.6 megatons. However, if we assume that at 100% he is literally five times larger, the calc becomes 343 megatons, something which surpasses all of Gojo’s feats by almost four times.

Gojo’s best feats would be him creating an earthquake upon escaping the Prison Realm, Jogo’s meteor and Domain Expansion and finally him being stated to be capable of powering an entire country. Starting with Jogo’s feats, his meteor alone surpasses the Typhoon and Falling Devil, being at minimum 155.2 to 832.1 kilotons of TNT, however the anime calc for his Domain Expansion would also grant another strong feat at 441.4 kilotons of TNT. Gojo’s earthquake feat ranges from 515.2 kilotons to 12.9 megatons of TNT. However, his absolute highest feat would be his ability to power an entire country that places him solidly in the megaton range, being 22.2 to 94 megatons of TNT.

As stated above, with their highest feats, Makima may seem to have the advantage over Gojo by 3.6x. However, there is one major caveat to this, this all only scales to her Bang technique. Aside from possibly the Typhoon Devil, none of these feats scale physically to Makima as shown in various battles such as with Pochita that showcase that she is in fact a glass cannon. Bang being her strongest attack would indeed harm Gojo (if it bypasses Infinity which will be debated below), however aside from her other hax, this is all she really has to harm him with sheer power. On the other hand, Gojo can severely damage Makima with any attack he uses and this also allows Gojos stronger and larger AoE attacks to actually be capable of completely obliterating her.

When looking at speed, this is once again a situation in which Gojo should overall take the advantage. At best Makima scales to Gun Devil’s Mach 635 calc, which not only will only pace her at less than 3x faster than the lowest end of the Black Flash and perception calc which are Mach 284.4 and Mach 240 respectively. But is in fact slower than the highest end for the Black Flash which is Mach 932.9. But what really puts Gojo above Makima is scaling to Sukuna, who could dodge the electromagnetic waves from Kashimo, which range from 5-7c, each being in the FTL range.

Due to the gap in speed, Gojo has far more room for error and can execute far more actions before Makima can even perform a single one. This allows him to utilize multiple different attacks and come up with a far more solid game plan against the hard to put down Makima. Overall, Gojo should solidly take the stat trinity and has the power required for his bigger attacks to completely destroy Makima.

Arsenal & Abilities

Regardless of the stats between the two, the debate would inevitably go into their abilities, and while Makima's dozens of contracts would mean she has far more abilities to throw at Gojo, nearly all of them cannot bypass Infinity, even the ones who could potentially contend with Gojo in stats (Gun Devil, Snake Devil, ect.) would be stopped in their tracks. But even if Infinity was down due to using a Domain Expansion or loss of the Six Eyes, he has other means of keeping her army at bay such as the several applications of Blue and his larger AoE attacks. Those larger AoE attacks especially would allow Gojo to plow through most of Makima’s army with a minimal amount of attacks.

The nuke version of Hollow Purple and Maximum Output Blue would be very good at this. Infinity doesn’t stop at just stopping her army either, it has been argued before that Bang, one of Makima's strongest attacks, could get past Infinity, however this is likely untrue. In all confirmed showings of the ability, it's portrayed as a physical but invisible force with mass, and thus should be detected by Infinity. And no, the bit with the Darkness Devil wasn’t Bang. If it was, she would’ve said, ya know… “bang”. The ability used against Darkness is much more likely her biological manipulation, and on the topic of that, Makima does have some actual ways of bypassing Infinity on her own, like said Biological Manipulation and more notably Control. Gojo's RCT is potent enough that it could heal from the extents of internal damage Makima’s biological manipulation causes, as her showings of it on others amounts to mostly hemorrhage like effects, something Gojos insanely strong RCT could definitely handle. His RCT can likely save him from Control as well.

Escaping from Control is a tricky thing but it is something Gojo could pull off. Firstly, we know that those under control are still capable of their own independent thoughts and actions, this is shown through Power and more importantly Angel, as not only was he able to perform separate actions not commanded to him, but him breaking out of Control at all means his own non-controlled thoughts must still exist. With this knowledge in mind, Gojo would have the means to activate his counter as all he would need to be able to do is think.

Not to mention, Gojo broke out of Hanami’s willpower draining technique (which is admittedly way less potent then control but still backs up Gojo having a possible slight resistance) and has his brain constantly being refreshed with RCT. Both of these factors would likely assist in him being able to somewhat struggle against Control alongside his main counter option, the brain nuke. Gojo destroying a part of his brain and then healing it would work as a perfect way to reset his brain into a state without the command put into it. To support this, we know mind hax in Chainsaw Man has been countered before by messing with the brain itself, as shown with Denji’s strategy against Falling.

One could question if Gojo would immediately resort to this, but thanks to his Six Eyes’ ability to read techniques they could potentially understand what Control is, that or putting two and two together to figure out Makima is using mind control isn’t that complicated. There is also a common misconception that this counter is limited, but that’s not actually true. When Gojo reached a limit of using RCT on his brain, that limit wasn’t actually on healing/resetting his brain in general. Instead it was specifically in reference to healing the black box/innate technique in the brain. This process is far more complex, hence why it could be done only five times.

However, Gojo shows no such limit with healing his brain in general, as he does it 24/7 and does it way more than five times in his fight with Sukuna. Finally there’s the threat of Makima forming a contract or wiping Gojo’s memory/personality once under control, it is important to preface that Makima has never immediately used the latter options however the contract option is very deadly as she will not hesitate to form one. Gojos' saving grace against these are his all powerful Six Eyes. The Six Eyes give Gojo a massive increase in perception speed, this extremely quick perception speed of Gojos means he’d be able to quickly realize and respond to his mind being put under Control, allowing him to break out before Makima could use these options with her control over him.

With all of these counters and details explained, it is important to remember that Control is an extremely deadly ability, and that this counter is still theoretical (if backed by evidence) at the end of the day, and one slip up could mean Gojo’s loss. However we believe he has what it takes to counter this broken ability, and aside from Control, Makimas options aren’t the best, the majority of them being stopped by Infinity and the few remaining being ones Gojo can reliably counter.

Then of course, there's Unlimited Void. While Makima would be able to have some resistance to it as a Devil (as Cursed Spirits are resistant to it more than normal humans and Cursed Spirits and Devils are equalized in this scenario) and could potentially transfer it due to her contract, that is quite theoretical. Makima has never actually shown the ability to transfer mental attacks, so the argument relies on comparing her contract to Santa’s, which could do such. These contracts are quite similar, though, so it’s not too hard to justify the comparison, however it’s important to note that for Makima to transfer the mental overload, she would still have to take it for a bit.

This leads to the very real possibility of Makima just getting “stun locked” inside of Gojo’s Domain. The informational dump is a continuous effect and therefore each time she transfers it, she’d just be hit by it again. While in the Domain, Gojo also has the sure hit effect on all of his attacks, allowing him to potentially end the fight then and there with a direct attack that would annihilate all of her at once such as Hollow Purple.

It should also be noted that the Domain could very easily catch Makima's Devils in it, shutting them down effectively given that unlike her they’d have no good counter to the mental overload, and based on his 0.2 showing this stun could last for multiple minutes giving plenty of time to finish them off. Lastly, while Makima could escape it through the Spider Devil, Gojo could simply sense them and then expand his barrier to catch them in the Domain (although that could run the risk of the barrier becoming weaker also), that or just leave the Domain and kill the pesky spider, which wouldn’t be hard given his abilities.

But let’s say Makima manages to escape or break through Unlimited Void (assuming Gojo weakened the outside barrier and Makima had a strong Devil destroy it from outside), Gojo has several ways of refreshing his Cursed Technique and gaining back the lost Cursed Energy. Empowering Chants or Black Flash would both boost his output greatly, the latter of which could also completely restore his cursed and reversed cursed technique, putting him right back to full performance after casting a Domain.

Then there’s his resetting of the black box which, while limited, would allow him to cast Unlimited Void five more times in the fight, likely more than enough to exhaust Makima’s escape options and put her down. This coupled with the Six Eyes decreasing Cursed Energy technique costs to nearly zero and Gojo's already great Cursed Energy pool, and it would be hard to say the Domain's drawbacks hold him back too much.

Lastly, to wrap up this segment there’s the big question of if Gojo can kill Makima permanently. As established in the stats section of our verdict, Gojo is massively stronger than Makima’s physicals, so he’d 100% be able to do fatal damage, but damage alone isn’t enough to beat Makima. Her contract with the prime minister gives her a near untouchable amount of regeneration. However while this regeneration is high in quantity, its quality can be beaten. We’ll go step by step through its limits and how Gojo can exploit them. Firstly, we know the regeneration struggles against constant damage. As shown with the Anti Makima Squad attack and the situation with Power’s blood, her damage was forced to be constantly transferred and this didn’t have time to keep up with what needed to be regenerated. Gojo has ways of countering this with attacks of his that would deal continuous damage like Unlimited Void and Maximum Output Blue.

Secondly, there’s the fridge incident. After Denji defeated Makima he cut her up and put all of her different body parts in his fridge for safe keeping. The reason this is important is because Makima did not regenerate in this time, despite all of the body parts she would need to regenerate being there she did not. The most likely explanation would be that her regeneration is not potent enough to heal her from this state. You could say that she couldn’t regenerate because her parts were separated into containers, but she’s just created new biomass to heal before, so that’s likely not the reason why, and Power’s blood would not be affecting her at this point.

This all points to the idea that her regeneration could not bring her back in this time (it had come from night to day by the time Denji began eating her). Kishibe states that he thinks she’d be able to come back from this (without Denji having bypassed the contract) and if we believe his words this could very well be true. However, based on what we know, it’s likely this would take too long to happen for her to still be in the fight. Most of Gojo’s larger energy attacks would be able to reduce Makima to a state similar to this that she’d take too long to regenerate from. Max Blue, Red, lime green, and Purple if landed well have the potential to blow Makima to bits, and potentially even greater. Which leads to our final limit, complete obliteration.

As mentioned in the “before the verdicts” section, neither team believes Makima could come back from this as she’s never shown or stated to have the capability to. Most of Gojo's attacks would likely be unable to completely destroy her and leave nothing behind, lacking in either AoE or destructive potential, but there’s one attack that could, Purple. Gojo’s Hollow Purple is an extremely destructive attack. It has destroyed large areas and left almost nothing behind in its path; if landed on Makima, it’s unlikely that any pieces of her will survive. This becomes especially true if Gojo goes all out and uses the nuke variation of the move, that has a level of AoE Makima could not hope to survive or escape. All this is to say that Gojo definitely has the capability to kill Makima or atleast take her out of the fight long enough to count as a win. This paired with his already superior list of abilities as gone over in this section gives him a very good advantage for this debate.

Tertiary Factors

For tertiary factors outside of stats and abilities, Gojo is more than capable of matching and even surpassing Makima in multiple areas. In terms of skill, Gojo has far more direct showings of his skill on-screen. His various fights against Sukuna, Miguel, Toji, and the Disaster Curses have shown him a more than capable hand-to-hand combatant and martial artist that someone like Makima hasn’t demonstrated.

Gojo has also mastered his abilities just as well as Makima has hers, with his ability to adapt on the fly against the Disaster Curses using his weakness against him by keeping his Domain open for 0.2 seconds, preventing harm to all normal people around him, as well as against Sukuna by compressing and manipulating the durability his Domain to counteract Sukuna’s own Domain, showing that he has full knowledge on how to use the abilities that he has been gifted. He’s even demonstrated the ability to learn and understand techniques completely on the fly, such as when he finally perfected the Reverse Cursed Technique after getting mortally wounded by Toji, and thus creating the Cursed Technique Reversal: Red in the process as well as his “unlimited” Hollow Purple against Sukuna.

Makima is older than Gojo, and thus likely more experienced. However, Gojo has shown no problem with keeping up with opponents who are hundreds of years older and more experienced than him before, such as Sukuna. He was completely capable of matching Sukuna in terms of adaptability in their fight, as well as completely dominating him in hand-to-hand combat when it came down to it. It’s also noted that Kenjaku, who has lived for thousands of years, would have no hopes of matching Gojo in any regard. Thus, it is unlikely that Makima’s experience difference is enough to matter in this fight.

While Gojo hasn’t shown the intelligence of Makima’s manipulations towards Denji, he is no slouch himself in the wits department. Unlike Makima, his intelligence generally applies to analyzing his students and helping them grow, as well as finding loopholes in the Jujutsu Society to further his own goals.

Stamina likely isn’t going to be an issue for Gojo either, as while his usage of Cursed Energy isn’t as effortless as Makima’s usage of her Devils, his feats of stamina are still incredibly impressive. He was capable of keeping Limitless on for three days with no sleep as a teen (before learning the Reversed Cursed Technique) and as an adult, for 19 straight days within the prison realm. Gojo also has ways to replenish his Cursed Energy reserves quite easily mid-battle as well, for example landing a Black Flash on any Devil of his choosing, which would instantly restore his Reverse Cursed Technique significantly. RCT would be the only reserve he’d even need to replenish too given the Six Eyes would give him near limitless amounts of cursed energy to throw at Makima, he’s not running out of juice anytime soon.

Another notable factor to be brought up is both of their mindsets within battle. Makima’s mindset in this fight is far more exploitable than Gojo's, as Makima tends to tank attacks head-on because she knows that her immortality will be sufficient to counter them. This would allow Gojo to potentially catch her off-guard with a technique that could defeat her quite easily, such as Hollow Purple or Unlimited Void, which she likely cannot afford to just sit there and get hit by.

On the other hand, Gojo’s weakness against hurting civilians is definitely exploitable by Makima due to her cruel and manipulative nature, but is less likely to be relevant overall to the fight as Gojo has found ways to work around this before against the Disaster Curses. He also has a less overall exploitable fighting style than Makima, as he usually uses Infinity to block all damage that might come towards him, and thus is far less likely to get caught off guard, and if he does he’ll most likely become more wary of the attacks that would be able to hurt him going forward in the fight.

Finally, while Makima may have the numbers advantage, Gojo is no stranger to being outnumbered, such as against the Disaster Curses where he was overwhelming both Jogo and Hanami single handedly while also killing one thousand transfigured humans within minutes by himself. This was all in a restricted environment where he wasn’t fully willing to go all-out due to not wanting to cause unnecessary civilian deaths. Here, Gojo will have access to his most potent AOE abilities without fear of civilian harm, tying that with the fact that most of Makima’s devils are weaker than Gojo, and it’s clear that the numbers advantage can be made up for.

Conclusion

"Throughout Heaven and Earth... I alone am the honored one."

Advantages:

  • Far stronger physically

  • Comparable in speed, way faster if FTL is used

  • Infinity would render nearly the entirety of Makimas abilities ineffective

  • Superior AOE and traversal options

  • His stronger attacks would be more than enough to reduce Makima to a state she can’t reliably regenerate from or just destroy her entirely

  • Brain reset could counter Control…

  • Can shred through the vast majority of Makima’s army…

  • "More attractive” -Written by Team Gojo members

  • Is a Digimon fan

Disadvantages:

  • …however this counter is risky as it involves intentionally damaging himself

  • …though select Devils like the Gun and Snake Devil would prove more of a challenge

  • Less experienced

  • Fight becomes less in his favor the longer it lasts

  • Arguably slightly slower without lightspeed

  • Inferior and more limited healing

Overall, this is in no way an easy battle for Gojo. Makima has several good advantages and arguably the best win condition in the debate. However more times than not she cannot beat The Strongest. Gojo is definitely doing better in the stat trinity, obliterating Makima in terms of physicals and being able to keep up with her stronger abilities/summons. Speed is more of a toss up but Gojo should be at minimum comparable, and has the potential to be even faster with the Black Flash high-end, or completely blitz Makima if you buy into the FTL Sukuna feat. These combined mean that Gojo has a solid lead when it comes to stats, but as anyone familiar with this debate knows, it’s way more complex than just stats.

Abilities are the main crux of this debate, in which we believe Gojo should also have the advantage. Infinity is the obvious elephant in the room and Makima doesn’t have many good ways past it, rendering nearly all of her abilities useless as long as it’s up and the slim few that can get past it Gojo has solid counters to, mainly with RCT which also helps in case some normal attacks somehow get past infinity.

Meanwhile, Makima doesn’t have as many counters to Gojos wincons. Her contracts can save her from most attacks and potentially Unlimited Void, but Gojos larger attacks she doesn’t have as good of an answer to besides just trying not to get hit. Aside from just win conditions, Gojo’s abilities give him ironically enough better control over the battlefield, with his advantages in AoE and traversal options along with infinity, he’d have an easier time keeping up with Makimas ability list then vice versa. Simply put Gojos abilities just give him a better chance at pulling off a win and surviving makimas wincons then Makimas abilities do for her.

Lastly, the tertiary factors mostly even out. Gojo has shown better skill, Makima is more experienced. Gojo is more adaptable, Makima is likely smarter. Etc etc. One part that Makima actually takes the edge in is stamina, she doesn’t have as many potential limits on her abilities and her immortality lets her stay in peak condition. With that said, it’s very unlikely for Gojo to get tired or run out of energy in this fight, the Six Eyes would ensure his Cursed Energy is constantly high, and he has ways of refreshing nearly all of his techniques. Plus, despite his more aloof personality, his fighting style is generally more beneficial here then Makima’s.

All in all, this is still an extremely close fight and Gojo is definitely not coming out unharmed. However we believe that his superior stats, more potent abilities, better survivability, and easier wincons give him all he needs to send the Control Devil to Hell. Makima simply couldn’t cut it, as the honored one Satoru Gojo will eat up his victory.

Team Makima

Stats

Stats are by far the simplest part of this debate… besides Jujutsu Kaisen’s speed discussion. But we will save that for later. Attack potency for both is easier so lets start with that. For Gojo, his position as top dog for the majority of the series lets him scale to basically any feat you can think of. Be it Hanami’s trees, Jogo’s meteor, various Domains, and so on. Most notably are his own feats though, being his emergence from the Prison Realm and a statement saying he can power an entire country. Both reach into megatons ranges, with the country powering statement in particular ranging from 22.2 to 94 depending on if you use Japan or America for the statement. America would be the more logical choice though, considering the conversation involves an American Undersecretary. It is also possible Gojo upscales this considering his Cursed Energy reserves are superior to Mahito’s, whose ten day recovery is what the calculation is based on.

In comparison, Makima physically does not compare to Gojo. The best scaling she is getting is to the Typhoon Devil’s 10 kiloton feat, a value that would be over a thousand times below Gojo’s own power. While this is a notable disadvantage, Makima’s healing factor (details later) would make up for the power gap. Also, it is not like some of Gojo’s big explosions would instantly turn her into red mist, considering that if she got far away enough she would be mostly fine due to surface area. So while there is a huge gap between Makima’s durability and Gojo’s power, it is not the biggest issue for her.

However it is important to preface that those lower values are specifically for her durability. Makima’s actual attack power can scale far higher, as her Bang ability was able to harm the Hero of Hell, Chainsaw Man, at his peak. Peak Chainsaw Man is above most other Devils in the series, including the Gun Devil, who could fly across the world in a short time frame. Accounting for the distance between nations and the time frames provided in series, the Gun Devil would have been moving at a speed of Mach 635. Using only the 20% Gun Devil’s shown mass as a lowball, the kinetic energy of moving so much mass at such a high speed would be worth about 68 megatons of TNT. A value very close to Gojo’s own city busting power.

Notably though, the calculation that gets 68 megatons only uses the 20% version’s mass, while Makima’s Bang ability should scale to the full mass. Meaning five times the value, putting Makima’s Bang attack at over 300 megatons, a little bit higher than Gojo’s power output. This would allow Bang to easily match and push back Gojo’s attacks, giving Makima a good defensive option. While her other top tier devils would not scale to these higher numbers as they only compare to the 20% Gun Devil, they would still scale to that version’s kinetic energy, putting them at about 47 megatons. Below Gojo, but still relative to him.

Makima and said higher tier devils would also scale to that mentioned Mach 635 value. It has been shown in series that fear of devils directly increases speed. Peak Chainsaw Man was able to blitz the Hell Devil, a feat far beyond what Denji can normally do. Additionally, Makima states that Chainsaw Man should still be able to move fast enough to dodge a specific attack despite being nerfed, indicating that his speed got nerfed due to him being feared less. Thus, by scaling to peak Chainsaw Man in speed, Makima would solidly scale to the Mach 635 value. As for her other top tier devils, they would scale to the 20% Gun Devil’s speed of Mach 421.8.

Gojo’s speed is where things get tricky, as JJK in general is rather complicated when it comes to the stat. So let's go over some feats. As addressed beforehand, Hakari’s lightning dodge has some inconsistencies when it comes to the higher ends of the feat, including both scientific and narrative problems. Gojo’s three year info dump means he has high perception speed, but when converted to reactions, it only gets to about Mach 240. Noticeably lower than Makima’s own speed stat.

Gojo’s best speed scaling would be from converting Black Flash’s reflex reaction speed to reaction speed, which would vary between Mach 284.4 and 932.9. One end is less than half of Makima’s own speed, and the other is just under 1.5 times her speed. The issue is the lower calculation uses feet per microsecond, while the higher one uses meters. Neither method is inherently wrong. If one were to compromise and use the midpoint between the two results, Gojo would be about Mach 608. Slower than Makima, but by so little that speed might as well be even. It would give him a minor edge over her top tier devils notably, though not by much.

But obviously that raises the question, what about the recent electromagnetic waves Sukuna dodged? Gojo would scale to the state the fraudulent one was in when he dodged Kashimo’s attack, so shouldn’t Gojo be FTL and blitz Makima? Well, here is the issue. The electromagnetic waves that Sukuna dodges are described as being able to vaporize targets, something that real life EM waves are absolutely incapable of. Additionally when Sukuna dodges them, we see them impact and damage the ground, implying force, an infamous contradiction for light speed arguments. One can argue however that Kashimo simply amplified the EM waves with his Cursed Energy, as he does for his electricity. This logic does not hold up though.

Typically, the writer of Jujutsu Kaisen, Gege, tries to follow scientific rules for some notable powers in the story. Gojo’s Infinity has infamously annoyed both him and editors due to scientific contradictions, and when writing Kashimo’s abilities, Gege did research with friends to make sure his lightning aligned with the properties of real life electricity, with the reason said electricity has so much force being the addition of Cursed Energy. The issue for the EM Waves is that while this could maybe explain the instance of the EM Waves having force (though said force is still a contradiction), it does not explain the statement about vaporization whatsoever. This makes calling the EM Waves light speed fishy, and so Sukuna remains the fraudulent one.

Other arguments exist against FTL Gojo as well apart from just scientific issues though. One could argue the panel itself is weird, or that since Sukuna can sense technique activations he aim dodged. Notably one could also argue it is an outlier as it would put characters above the necessary speed to perform Black Flash willfully, which is inconsistent as not even someone as fast as Gojo can do the move on command. These issues focus more on semantics though so they are not as good of counter arguments as pointing out the scientific inconsistencies.

To summarize, both Gojo and Makima are very comparable when it comes to attack potency and speed. While Gojo is certainly far more durable, Makima’s strongest devils are still tough compared to him, and Makima herself has regeneration to compensate for her durability issue, which will be expanded on momentarily.

Arsenal & Abilities

Off the bat, it is clear that neither Gojo or Makima can win this fight through traditional means. Gojo’s Infinity prevents all traditional attacks which blocks off most of Makima’s devils and moves like Bang (it’s force, when she harmed Darkness Devil it was probably just biological manipulation), while Makima’s regeneration means any usual strong attack is not going to prove fatal unless she is completely obliterated. Thus, neither is going to necessarily have traditional win conditions. But while Gojo certainly has some of his own, Makima’s are easier to pull off, with them being both more efficient and harder to counter by the honored one.

Before elaborating on that though, it is important to address general abilities either have. Gojo has his own healing ability in Reverse Cursed Technique, has unique offensive options Makima has never interacted with in the form of his various colored attacks, can heighten his defense with Falling Blossom, and his enhanced senses would make keeping track of Makima not much of an issue. Makima also has her own enhanced senses, especially when it comes to smell, and her healing factor in particular being as advanced as it is allows her to match Gojo’s defenses. That healing factor in particular is incredibly useful, as it would allow Makima to shrug off massive attacks, to the point where Gojo winning via obliteration is not a very likely outcome.

To elaborate, as previously mentioned, while there is not sufficient evidence to say that Makima could come back from complete destruction, there is evidence to suggest she needs as little as a strand of hair. As when Denji ate Makima, he even had to eat that to ensure her death as he had to eat her entire body. We have also seen Makima regenerate her hair when it is destroyed. This all provides evidence to suggest that her hair is part of her being and thus she could regenerate from it. However, the issue with this logic is that we have never actually seen her come back from so little, and that Kishibe and Denji going down to even her hair was more of a “just in case”, as they did not fully understand how her regeneration worked.

But something that is important to consider is the fact that Makima was still alive and attempting to regenerate even when she was reduced to parts of food, as Kishibe told Denji that he should try to consume the food as quickly as he could to avoid more deaths around Japan. Makima was not truly dead until Denji ate all of the food, as Nayuta (her reincarnation) only appeared to Kishibe after Denji finished eating. This further supports the point about Makima needing as little as hair to regenerate, as every single part of her body had to be consumed for her to truly be dead. On a final note, to clarify, the reason Makima did not regenerate while reduced to food was because Power’s blood had paused her regeneration previously, and well, you know, she was contained in food. It’s not like Gojo is going to chop her into pieces and then shut said pieces in a box and call it a day.

This absurd level of regeneration is incredibly helpful, as it makes one of Gojo’s two win conditions, complete obliteration, significantly harder to pull off. For Gojo to win via this method, he would not be able to leave anything left of Makima, down to a single strand of hair. Even assuming Makima cannot regenerate from so little, her regeneration would still be able to put her back together from having her body blasted into small pieces, seeing as Chainsaw Man cutting her up into such still did not put her down. Considering relative speed and Makima’s slaves getting in the way of things, Gojo getting the opportunity to land a strong direct hit with something like Hollow Purple is incredibly difficult.

Gojo’s other primary win condition completely bypasses Makima’s regeneration however, being his Domain Expansion: Infinite Void. With it, Gojo could incapacitate Makima and thus not have to kill her in the first place, resulting in Gojo not even having to bother with the immortality contract. As Makima would still have to endure the effect of infinite information, simply passing off the mental damage to a random citizen would not undo the influx of information she would receive. So even if she could pass the info on, she would still be left incredibly vulnerable to Gojo annihilating her with something like Hollow Purple if the Domain catches her. In conclusion, Gojo’s Domain Expansion is actually a very strong option that could win him the fight. The issue is that while it is a strong option, it is not a perfect one.

Domains work by sealing the user and opponent within a separate space blocked off from the outside world. Makima has a simple solution to escape through the Spider Devil, which can transport Makima from Earth to Hell, Hell being an entirely different dimension. It helps the Spider Devil can stay hidden for most of the fight by hiding underground, and can simply hide again after it helps Makima escape. Thus if Makima saw herself being trapped, she could logically warp out immediately.

Additionally, Domains are typically weak on the outside despite being strong on the inside, meaning many of Makima’s slaves could break the barrier and get her out. While Gojo could make the outside wall strong to counter this, that also makes the inside weak, meaning Makima also has a chance to break out of the Domain herself. It is also possible Gojo tries expanding the size of his Domain if he senses Makima escaping, but that requires her popping out right outside of it, as well as him considering that option before she makes more distance between herself and the Domain

Of course, these responses that save Makima from Unlimited Void do require her to act quickly, because if she doesn’t move quickly it is just as likely that she does not manage to get out in time before she receives infinite info, as it is that she does manage to escape. The point is, Gojo landing a Domain Expansion on Makima does not guarantee his victory, even if it would get him close to one. Especially if he were to resort to multiple unique applications of Domain Expansion during the fight.

In comparison however, Makima’s best winning ability is far easier to land, with Gojo lacking proper counters: Control. As discussed before, her using Control on someone like Gojo would not be out of character. She has no reason to view him as something special just because he is strong, considering she has seen plenty of equally strong foes in the past anyways, and it is not like she is trying to hide her identity as the Control Devil during this fight. Due to Control specifically going after the mind (Control is stated to target the brain), it would bypass Infinity completely, and once she lands it Gojo will be under her grip with no method of breaking out.

Makima can tell Gojo to turn off Infinity and let himself be obliterated by her devils, can order him to straight up kill himself, can seal away or alter his memories so he forgets how to do anything, can change his personality to the point where he acts like a dog, or can force him to make a contract with her and thus be under her control forever. Gojo being able to quickly break out of Hanami’s Flower Field does not mean he would be able to resist Control, as that technique specifically reduces will power, and is far less impressive than what we have seen Control do: bypassing layered memory manipulation, altering senses, dominating minds with a word, and more.

Gojo has two arguments related to Reverse Cursed Technique for escaping the grip of Control, though both have clear issues. The first argument is that due to constantly refreshing his brain 24/7 to keep Infinity passive, Gojo’s brain would just immediately turn Control off. However, this refresh is specifically just keeping his brain from tiring out so he can optimize the usage of his Cursed Energy. There is no reason to assume it would break a mental grip on him outright.

The second argument is that Gojo has shown to be able to destroy a specific part of his brain, and then immediately heal it, in order to reuse Domain Expansion. It has been shown in Chainsaw Man that most mental attacks specifically target the brain, and Nayuta states herself that Control targets the brain. Thus, it would actually make sense that Gojo destroying his brain temporarily would disrupt Control, and thus let him break out.

The crucial flaw with this argument is that once Gojo is under Control, he would not be capable of independent thought. So he would not be able to try and destroy his brain and escape Control in the first place. Even then, assuming Gojo would conclude that brain destruction would counter mind control in the first place is odd, as mind control is a power he has never had to deal with at all, and destroying part of his own brain to counter mind control is something he has never thought of nor used the brain destruction for in the first place.

One could argue that the Angel Devil and Power breaking out of Control could imply that Gojo could escape it through sheer will power, though both of those examples are very context specific. For Angel, they got their lost memories back by seeing Aki go through the exact same experience they had gone through when Makima originally put them under Control, and in the same location as well. Even after breaking out, Makima just put Angel under Control again right after.

As for Power, it is rather vague, though it could be due to her being helped by Pochita, or a similar case to Angel where she was reminded of her past. Power’s instance of resisting Control could also simply be a case of her resisting mind control, rather than the scene itself being an anti-feat for Control. Regardless of the interpretation, Gojo would not be able to replicate it regardless of how it was countered: he would not have outside influence like Pochita, he would not have any reason to have some huge will enhancing flashback as nothing in the fight would prompt previous memories, and Gojo himself has not shown a resistance to mind control.

Additionally, Gojo has no argument to counter his memories or personality being altered whatsoever, especially since Makima’s memory power would be layered.

Apart from Control, Makima could also make Gojo bleed from the inside with her biological manipulation. While this likely would not instantly be fatal and Gojo could heal from the damage via Reverse Cursed Technique, it still would be significant damage at the time. Similar biological manipulation performed by the Darkness Devil knocked out Aki and the Angel Devil in seconds, with Makima’s own bringing a man to his knees with just one glare.

So the ability definitely has the potency needed to, if nothing else, put Gojo on the backfoot temporarily. With enough uses, it could knock him out outright if he is not able to recover in time with Reverse Cursed Technique, giving Makima the chance needed to put him six feet under. It also does not help that when Gojo is destroying his Black Box to be able to reuse his Domain, he is unable to use Reversed Cursed Technique and is thus vulnerable.

Another option to win would be trapping Gojo in Hell via the Hell Devil, which Makima should be able to do given her large amount of expendable controlled Devil Hunters and monsters. The Hell Devil was able to temporarily send the Chainsaw Man to Hell despite being significantly weaker than him, meaning that even if it was not relative to beings like the Gun Devil in stats allowing it to keep up with Gojo, it could still seal his fate. While it definitely would not be a go to option for Makima to win, it is still an option in her arsenal regardless. Additionally, while one could argue Gojo escaping Hell via the doors in the sky, these leading out of Hell is more theoretical, and he would still have to fight through the various monsters of the dimension to reach them.

How optimal all of these win conditions are are further amplified by her other more minor powers. For example, her connection to the Future Devil via Aki would allow her to glimpse the future slightly and thus help her set up and dodge attacks. When the Spider Devil isn’t hiding and saving Makima from Domain Expansion, it would allow for quick and undetectable transportation around the area. And of course, the sheer quantity of characters and devils at her disposal would give Gojo a lot to focus on.

Overall, Gojo’s abilities giving him the winning hand is certainly not impossible. The issue for him is that Makima’s are easier and simpler to capitalize on, as while Makima can survive destructive attacks and  narrowly escape his Domain, Gojo has no counter to something as potent as Control, while also having issues with abilities such as biological manipulation and being sent to Hell. While both have a lot of abilities to throw out, when it comes to the powers that matter most, the Control Devil has the edge.

Tertiary Factors

For the matters aside from statistics and versatility, Gojo may seem to hold more advantages, but Makima’s in comparison are far more important and impressive. For example, Gojo seems like the easy pick for the more skilled warrior, but Makima is not only far more experienced due to her superior age, but she has outwitted and defeated several martial artists and warriors through her plans or powers. These include the numerous weapon fiends, or Quanxi, who has the capability to outmatch the entirety of humanity in a tournament. Her experience in these matters gives solid credence to her being able to adapt to Gojo’s skill, and more importantly, his intellect.

Gojo is credited as a fighting genius in Jujutsu Kaisen, but Makima’s planning and intelligence are unlike anything he's ever encountered. She has planned the entirety of Chainsaw Man Part 1 in order to draw out Pochita, and the lengths this went to are so convoluted Heath Ledger's Joker would be jealous. She not only built up his life with accomplishments over specific foes that she set up for him in the first place, but also perfectly manipulated other characters integral to her plan (IE: Aki, Angel Devil, Denji himself) to not only allow her plans to continue, but also further them along.

An example would be her making Power/Denji live with Aki, which resulted in his bonding with them, which then resulted in him being terrified for their safety, and making a contract with Makima out of nowhere to protect them because of that. This then resulted in the Gun Devil turning Aki into a Fiend after it lost to Makima, which Denji was than forced to kill, AND THEN that accident made Denji enter a contract with Makima from all the pain he experienced, unknowingly allowing Power to be killed and his own contract with Pochita to be broken.

Even in terms of combat, she has defeated Pochita, the strongest and most feared Devil, by slowly but surely wearing down his immense strength and healing with well-placed minions, specific strategies and attacks, and exploiting his heroic nature to kill him. She is also an expert at combining her Devil powers and the abilities of others to take on roughly any foe, like her stacking the abilities of six separate contracts / Devils to defeat the Gun Devil, one of the greatest threats in the series. Makima's overall skill/experience in overwhelming foes with significant advantages over her due to her intelligence in combat and power usage, leaves Gojo in a very difficult spot if he tries to play the long game, and herself in an even better one.

As far as topics like energy supplies and other combat adjacent factors play in, Gojo is in another difficult spot. Sure, he himself will not have the problem of running out of Energy, but neither will Makima. All of her minions can be healed from practically anything save complete annihilation due to the Zombie Devil or just simple blood, which she herself could give at the worst due to her immortality. Not only that, but all of the Devil powers she has access to can be freely used due to her controlling the nature of Contracts, leaving her with no cost of using their powers, which have no drawbacks because of that.

Her own Control Devil powers aren't reliant on any sort of limitation like stamina, and are perfectly suited to outplay Gojo, especially considering his few methods of countering her powers are finite. The Brain Nuke option will only work a few times before he won't be able to use Domain Expansion/Unlimited Void, one of his primary win-conditions, any more. Similarly, if Makima can destroy the Six Eyes, if even for a time, Infinity will be knocked down, and she will be able to use all of her powers on him, no matter how small the opening. Even though Gojo can heal his Six Eyes, the fact he could lose them momentarily at all is an issue considering how much pressure Makima can apply here.

These two factors having caveats Makima can exploit would be one thing, but she has a multitude of options to carry this out through her army of Devils and monsters to throw at Gojo. These include the Zombie Devils ability to revive all of her minions, the Hell and Spider Devil being able to teleport anybody else in and out of danger, and Makima’s numerous options with similar power to Gojo himself (Gun Devil, Snake Devil, Punishment Devil, and Angel Devil's weapons).

Gojo may have experience with fighting multiple opponents at once, but when he has, it has usually been against opponents he can easily shrug off, allowing him to focus on a specific target. But here, Makima has 3 other Devils besides herself that can match in stats, and add several more factors onto Gojo's plate as it is. Such as, for example, the Gun Devils insane AOE and bullets traversing several kilometers in moments, thousands flying out at a time.

All of this is bad for Gojo already, but take into account the Future Devil, who gives Makima precognition multiple seconds into the future, and she will be able to cut through his powers, avoid his win-conditions, and bypass his defenses. He just isn't suited to outfox or outplay somebody with this much control over the environment and the battlefield, and Makima's excellence/intelligence at this very strategy will leave Gojo with no options left but to suffer to her abilities and wit.

Conclusion

“Your necessary evil... is just an excuse to justify your own crimes. Those excuses are unnecessary to society. The truly necessary evils are always kept collared and controlled by the state."

Advantages:

  • Top tier devils are almost even in power, while Bang surpasses Gojo by a small margin

  • Matching in speed if FTL Gojo is not bought, and Future Devil furthers this gap

  • Control is the best winning move either have, with Hell BFR and Biological Manipulation also being good finishing moves

  • More experienced and smarter

  • Superior regeneration that would allow her to survive nearly all of Gojo’s offensive options

  • More range with select devils and teleportation

  • Massive numbers advantage…

  • RG33

  • Actually honest enough to admit to fraudulence

Disadvantages:

  • Physically inferior

  • Slower if FTL Gojo is bought

  • Infinity would block off the majority of her offensive options

  • Escaping Gojo’s Domain would be extremely dangerous and difficult, even if possible

  • Regeneration can be overwhelmed were Gojo to get clean enough of a hit

  • Less destructive potency and AOE

  • …though most allies besides her stand out devils get one shot

Defeating Gojo will not be an easy challenge whatsoever, but considering what she has at her disposal, Makima absolutely has the means to win this fight a majority of the time. She can surpass Gojo in power and match his speed, while making up for her lacking durability via her regenerative powers. Said powers are potent enough to the point where, even without higher assumptions about the limits of the regeneration, brute force is not a reliable method for Gojo taking the win. While Domain Expansion could get the job done, actually pulling it off is a very complicated endeavor, as Makima has the means to avoid it, though with difficulty.

On the other hand, while Reverse Cursed Technique would let Gojo recover from the intense damage of Makima’s biological manipulation, he could eventually be overwhelmed, and it does not help either that he cannot just keep focusing on healing via Reverse Cursed Technique forever. Warping Gojo to Hell would not be one of Makima’s first tricks, but it is not one she does not have the means to pull off. At best, Gojo would have to fight hard to get back to the fight by escaping Hell, and at worst, he would be trapped in Hell forever with no means of escape.

Control in particular is by far the best winning move either of the two have, with Makima being able to use it to dominate Gojo’s mind and force him into a contract, erase his memories, or alter his personality. Control being this versatile allows for Makima to end the fight in a variety of ways with just the one ability. Gojo has no arguments against memory and personality manipulation, and his arguments against mind manipulation depend on theoretical counters he would not think of nor have the opportunity to put into effect.

It is important to clarify that Gojo is not completely helpless here, he does have a lot of notable advantages himself. However Makima has her own unique advantages as well, and when canceling out all of their general edges, the Control Devil simply has better means to put down the honored one. Cutting to the case, this battle has always been split consensus wise, but to make one last sharp point: while Gojo certainly had a lot of things going for him, he was simply only HALF THE SORCERER HE CUT HIMSELF OUT TO BE- ok, I’ll stop. The winner is Makima.
