Death Battle Predictions: Miles Morales VS Static

One of history’s greatest poets was quoted as saying that greatness was a quality some people are just naturally born with, while for others, it was something that was thrust onto them. Countless heroes in fiction have had their careers defined by the latter precept; when thrust into extraordinary circumstances beyond their control and far away from ordinary life as can be, the greatest champions of justice rise up to the occasion and thrive, regardless of how young or inexperienced they can be. The first two combatants of Death Battle’s landmark 7th season are two such well-respected examples ready to continue their publishers’ legendary rivalry forward:

Miles Morales, Marvel Comics’ one and only Ultimate Spider-Man. Static Shock, the undisputed Bang Baby crimefighter from DC. Once just city kids who kept to themselves, these extraordinarily talented young men have shocked the system by rising up to defend their neighborhoods when all hope seemed lost, and while they may not be the long-standing heroes their older contemporaries are, nobody can deny that the courage they display on a daily basis matches or even surpasses their elders’. The beats are ready to drop and punches are going to fly; which of these youngblood superheroes will start off the new decade with a bang?

Background

Miles Morales

In the parallel universe called Earth-1610, a great tragedy befell New York City. Spider-Man, the beloved friendly neighborhood web-slinger who protected his home from evildoers everywhere, gave up his life in an ultimate act of sacrifice while battling his nemesis, the Green Goblin. As the world mourned his passing, and even felt guilty upon learning that the man behind the mask was just a teenaged high-school student by the name of Peter Parker, it quickly became apparent that someone needed to fill in the void he left behind; a new costumed crimefighter who fought for everyday citizens the same way Spider-Man did had to take his place, and as luck would have it, a brand-new ultimate Spider-Man was ready to bear the responsibility.

Beneath the visage of this black-and-red wall-crawler was Miles Gozalo Morales, a native of Brooklyn. Born to an African-American father and a Puerto Rican mother, Miles acquired his powers the same way his predecessor did: through a radioactive spider bite; unbeknownst to him, the spider responsible for granting his powers was part of an experiment designed to create more Spider-Men comparable or superior to Peter. For a time, he refused to acknowledge his new skills to maintain a sense of normalcy, but Spider-Man’s death inspired him to take action for the first time; feeling guilty for not being able to help him when he needed it the most, Miles adopted the mantle of Spider-Man on his own to maintain its legacy.

Static

In a parallel universe known as the Dakotaverse, geeky fifteen-year old Virgil Ovid Hawkins grew up in Paris Island, the poorest, most crime-ridden neighborhood in Dakota City. Gangs were on every block, and turf wars were not a rare sight. Always one to crack corny jokes with the intelligence to solve complex physics equations, Virgil was certainly a victim of his environment. He was bullied and beat on ruthlessly. Luckily, he wasn’t completely alone, as he had some connections in the hood.

Enter Larry Wade. As Virgil’s older, tougher friend capable of whooping any of Virgil’s tormentors, he wouldn’t always be there for him. So as someone in his own dodgy gang, he gave Virgil a gun and told him to get his revenge. Virgil very nearly went through with it, but while waiting by some old crates and oil drums, decided this lifestyle wasn’t for him, dumped the firearm, and walked off. Unfortunately (or fortunately) for him, he would end up in the wrong place at the wrong time. The “Big Bang” event would change his life forever.

This “Big Bang” event occured when the local gangs decided to settle up at an intersection of their territories. It was a hot topic, and hundreds of gang members were going to be in attendance. Dakota’s mayor, Thomasina Jefferson, was well aware of this large scale event. Wanting to make a statement on her toughness on crime, she arranged for a special radioactive tear gas called Quantum Juice to be deployed at the site, or “Ground Zero”. The plan was to incapacitate everyone involved, and scoop up as many gang members for incarceration as possible.

Except this plan went horribly wrong. The Quantum Juice killed the majority of people involved, and those who were spared were either mutated horribly or given superhuman abilities. Those who survived would be dubbed as “Bang Babies”. Virgil, who was in the area, was given electrokinetic and electromagnetic abilities. He became the hero known as Static (Static Shock is only the name of the show, but if you want to use it as a moniker for him that’s fine) and got to work cracking down on the criminals and super villains in his hood. With fresh style, the teachings of Black Lightning, and a thirst for justice, the thugs of the streets and villainous Bang Babies of the underbelly better watch out when Static’s putting a shock in their system.

Equipment

Miles

Uniform

Miles’ suit may not be decked out with gadgets and gizmos like other suits, but it’s a stylish black and red twist on Peter’s iconic red and blue. While it’s not armored, it serves some degree of protection.

Web-Shooters

Given to him by Aunt May, these wrist-mounted gizmos obviously shoot out durable webbing for all sorts of things. Swinging, restraining, and errr… parachuting, apparently.

Static

Uniform

Originally, Static’s uniforms were homemade or sometimes just a jacket and pants combo with his emblem on them. During the New 52, Static gained a new uniform that was made by the hero Hardware. It contains numerous gadgets and tech with his most useful being holographic displays and a communication device, which allows Static to remotely communicate with others. He can also use the interface like a conventional computer screen to display data either stored in his uniform's hard drive or obtained from external sources like websites. The interface can even split into multiple windows so that Static can communicate with someone while reviewing electronic files. Static can adjust the interface's size and even convert it into 3D as when he is reading a stored topological map.

The suit is also equipped with a wi-fi receiver, granting Static wireless internet access and direct communications with computers similarly equipped. He mainly uses this to upload apps to further expand the costume's abilities. Static can also use the wi-fi to monitor and control any systems connected to a wireless computer: surveillance, climate control, etc.

Static’s suit also comes with a wide-band radio receiver that allows Static to scan radio traffic, especially police band transmissions. He can also tune the receiver to pick up the unique radio signals transmitted by his tracking devices.

The uniform can also be used for stealth mode by generating an electrical interference that renders it and by extension Static invisible to security cameras. He activates this function by channeling a low voltage charge through the uniform.

The uniform's computer systems are fully shielded against EMPs and similar phenomena. This defense is to protect the costume from Static's own electromagnetic powers as well as from attacks by his enemies. Besides its computerized systems, the uniform's jacket has pockets hidden in its inner lining where Static can store weapons and equipment as needed.

Various other tech and gadgets equipped in the suit include a transponder, a hands-free cell phone, map data, GPS, various other miscellaneous applications. With the uniform, Static can also create maps of areas by using radar pulses and tracking heat signatures. Finally, the suit can be compressed and then stored inside a small handheld canister.

Bo Staff

Static is armed with a collapsible bo staff that he uses for melee attacks in close quarters combat. It consists of four, hinged metal sections, allowing it to be quickly unfolded and locked into place with a flick of the wrist.

Collapsible Axe

Static also possesses a collapsible axe in his arsenal. This modern twist on the classic battleaxe is distinguished by its hexagonal-shaped head. The axe's handle can be folded into the head so Static can easily conceal it in his costume.

Zap Caps

Static is also armed with a carton of explosive bombs that contain his electromagnetic energy. He keeps them as emergency batteries in case he needs to recharge his powers during a fight. Another version of Zap Caps becomes a set of coils that can be used to capture opponents.

Pellets

Static carries metallic pellets that he can charge with electrical energy and throw.

Static Saucer

Static carries a collapsible metallic disk that he often rides on while using his powers to soar through the air, being able to fly freely in any direction. In the Static Shock cartoon, the Static Saucer is comprised of a mylar compound. Static can also control it from a distance, use it as a projectile weapon, a buzzsaw, or use it to block attacks. In the New 52, Static gained a new saucer. This version is comprised of multiple hexagonal disks that can be taken apart or reconfigured into multiple shapes based on Static's needs at a given moment. Static can use this new saucer for the same purposes as his old one, and the material is made of a lightweight metal alloy.

In case Static doesn’t have his saucer, he can use pretty much anything else to ride on for flight as long as they’re metal. Objects include trash can lids, metal planks, cars, bikes, desks, chairs, etc.

Shock Vox

Static carries a walkie talkie that he uses to communicate with his best friend and teammate Gear.

Tracers

Static can plant tracers on his opponents, allowing him to use his powers to successfully track them.

Abilities

Miles

Bio-Electricity Manipulation

A result of the radioactive spider’s experimentation, Miles is a unique Spider-Man in which he has the ability to discharge and weaponize the natural electricity from his body for offensive purposes. This bio-electricity is enough to damage even other known electrokinetics, such as Electro.

Bio-Electric Energy Threads

Should his web-shooters be out of commission or missing in action, Miles can opt for a more natural approach by manifesting his natural electricity into threads of energy.

Spider-Sense

You probably already know what this is. Like his famed predecessor, Miles can sense danger from a buzzing in his head before it even happens. Earth-1610’s Peter would only get warnings, but Miles takes more after 616, in which it’s more like precognition. He’s predicted a teleporter showing up out of nowhere. Considering the circumstances he was in, that feat is all the more impressive.

Wall-Crawling

Like any good Spider-Man, Miles can stick to most surfaces with ease, greatly increasing his mobility. He does this by manipulating the inter-atomic bindings between him and just about any object. This coupled with his web swinging makes getting around Brooklyn a breeze for Miles.

Camouflage

Miles can completely blend in with his environment, including his clothing. It’s not textbook invisibility, but it has the obvious offensive, defensive, and evasive potential akin to it.

Static

Super-Conductive Electromagnetism

Static has the ability to manipulate electrically charged particles. This means he can attract or repel objects, create or manipulate magnetic poles and create or manipulate electrical currents. Static can also sense sources of electromagnetic energy or objects that can be affected by it as well as magnetize and demagnetize metals. Additionally, he can cancel out phasing/intangibility techniques by charging a person's electrons, force the electrons in people’s bodies to explode out in the form of electric shocks, recognize the electric charge of other EM-based force fields and remove them, nullify stasis fields, use electrolysis to separate water into oxygen and hydrogen, create ozone gas to snuff out fires, and reverse the polarity of guns to make them misfire.

Electrokinesis

Healing Factor

Enhanced Vision

In the New 52, Static can perceive things with greater acuity than a normal human being with some effort. In this case, he can see on different wavelengths of the electromagnetic spectrum outside normal visible light, with UV light in particular being confirmed. Examples of his enhanced vision include seeing particles kicked out of place on the UV spectrum, seeing the pulses of a morse code signal, and sensing sources of electromagnetic energy and electricity.

Intellect

Static is not just an electrical powerhouse, but a mental one too. His cunning intellect has let him outsmart tons of bad guys who fell right into his hands. He’s a genius physicist as well, like him cancelling out Phayze’s intangibility as seen above. He deduced the inner workings of a Bang Baby’s powers and rendered him useless, brushed off Kilgore’s electrons, and separated water into hydrogen and oxygen.

Weaknesses

Miles

Miles may be a Spider-Man, but he’s still growing. He has yet to see a good deal of the crazy and outlandish things the more experienced Peter Parker has. His bio-electricity attacks can leave him exhausted if he juices himself too much, and his suit isn’t armored. As effective as his bio-electricity can be, insulated material can stop it.

He also has that Parker tendency to make quips that get him hit and rush things without a plan of attack. Miles may be tough on the bad guys, but he’s still a very trusting person to a fault. In fact, trusting an adversary messed up his Spider-Sense

Static

While Static possesses a lot of power, he isn’t unstoppable. If Static pushes himself way too hard, he’ll lose power and will either need to recharge from an outside source or wait to recover. Additionally, Static’s powers don’t work well against insulated objects. However, Static himself has noted that a big enough electrical charge can overtax any insulators. He also has been able to force some insulators to hold a charge as well as get around their protection if they aren't airtight.

While water does short-circuit Static’s powers in the Static Shock cartoon, that weakness doesn’t appear in the comics (which is the original source material for Static). In fact, his powers don’t get affected while underwater in the comics.

Malcolm Belmont

Hello, it’s me Mal back for another season of DEATH BATTLE except this time it’s 20 episodes and every DEATH BATTLE is coming every two weeks..fun. Also in case you are wondering, yes the G1DBFB will still be continuing to make Prediction Blogs. I won’t lie that it may be rather difficult to keep making and publishing prediction blogs every two weeks especially since most if not all of us have our own lives and work to do. But we have prepared ourselves through working on certain characters that were teased in the All-Might vs Might Guy Prediction Blog as well as brought on a bunch of guests to work on multiple blogs at once which should loosen the load a bit.Despite the one less week we are still going to try and make these blogs as consistent as we can so we are not going away anytime soon in the foreseeable future.

In terms of who would win this fight in particular i would go with Static as while Miles definitely has Static beat in a purely strength category as he scales to the likes of Peter whom by his own statement, lifted an almost 130 ton Iron Object and though it caused great physical stress to his body, he was able to lift it eventually in the end. Considering that Miles has matched Peter in strength and could reasonable scale to other Spider-Man. He should be at least capable of lifting 130 tons. Miles himself is also able to lift entire cars and trucks- which while not as impressive compared to Peter’s 130 feat is still fairly good for a street leveler. As for pure strength, Static doesn’t have many pure strength feats but he easily capable of lifting cars and SUVs. So in terms of pure strength Miles and Static should be fairly equal if you don’t scale to Peter but if you do then Peter’s 130 ton feat should be more then anything Static has lifted. However, when taking destructive capability into account. Static has a clear edge over Miles. Miles relies more on Strength rather than Destructive Ability to use his most if not all his abilities being more physical then any blasts or beams but he should be able to reasonably scale to Peter Parker who is solidly Town Level. As for Static, he once threw large containers into orbit - if we go by VSBW Terms the Kinetic Energy of this should be Town to City Level. He’s also defeated villains who have Town to City Levels of Destructive Capability (Permafrost created a giant snow storm around the city). He should be fairly on Miles level if not surpassing him.

In terms of their speed they are fairly equal with both characters having Massively Hypersonic Feats due to Miles Morales dodging attacks from electric based villains like the obvious Electro as well as dodging laser fire. For Static his blasts have been stated   as quick as lightning which would put his firing speed being Massively Hypersonic at the very least. Static has also shown being dodging lasers which is a MHS/Relativistic feats so overall in terms of speed I would say they are fair even ground.

In terms of durability, both are also fairly even as Miles was able to beat off the likes of Venom,Spider-Man and Electro with Peter Parker in particular being a key feat since Spider-Man has been shown capable of performing town level feats in the past and as such should scale to him. As for Static, he’s fought and taken hits from the likes of Permafrost who was able to perform a snowstorm level feat which has been calced to be at least Town level. As such they should be fairly even in terms of Durability with Static having the slight edge.

Even ignoring the advantage that Static would have over Miles in terms of stats, there are several other areas where I think Static takes this. He is waaay more versatile than Miles due to the amount of ways he can manipulate his electricity (we have shown that through the analysis section of the blog) plus his numerous gadgets, weapons give him much more versatility than Miles. Plus i would argue that Miles’s main three qualities - His Spider-Sense,Invisibility and BioElectric Manipulation can all be countered by Static. His Spider-Sense can be tricked as well as shocked to disorientate him. His Invisibility can be countered by Electricity plus Static’s Radar Sense that allows him to easily track invisible enemies plus Miles’s electric based powers are more like lunch for static as he can absorb electricity into his body in order to heal himself or get rid of the problem. Finally there’s the whole strategist/intelligence angle. While Miles is definitely a smart kid, there’s no doubt that Static is the smart person - he has continuously been described by other characters even the likes of Batman as having genius level intellect. So while this is a close fight in terms of Stats and i could see Miles having the edge slightly (though personally I disagree with that). I definitely think Static has the versatility, intelligence and counters needed to shut Miles down for good. Static is the shocking victor in this bout.

KirbyKid

I have been looking forward to this match for a very long time. These two superheroes of color hold a very special place in my heart, Static for the nostalgia his show provides and Miles because of his modern day rise to glory.

While I hold these two near and dear to my heart, there is of course only one winner. This match initially comes off pretty close, and that’s because it is, but the more you look into it the more you see the tiny nuances each character has, and the more likely to win of the two becomes a little more obvious.

Miles is an accomplished fighter comparable to Peter.

Having to have kept up with his universe Peter’s villains after his passing, the Spider-Man series has done a good job of drilling in the idea that Miles is as much of a Spider-Man as any. If it weren’t just the comics confirming this, you can also point to the cartoon series and Spiderverse movie as further proof of Miles’ abilities and skill to match his Spider counterparts. All Spider-Men are created equal. So, with that in mind, any of Peter’s feats and skills should scale without question, alongside all other relevant Spider-Men.

Miles’ electricity will hurt Static.

When it comes to Miles vs Static, Miles is no stranger to electric type opponents, most notably Electro. His Bio-Electricity is capable of shocking Electro despite his electrical resistances and genetic makeup, which will definitely catch Static off-guard given the fact his Venom blast packs quite a punch. Opponents with mutated or supernatural genetics experience a much greater pain, ensuring any jolt from Miles will have a potent effect on Static. It legitimately is used to finish fights quickly, which has included one-shotting Ultimate Green Goblin and chasing off Blackheart.

Peter has fought off Electro before with insulated webbed gloves, a tactic Miles should reasonably think up, seeing as he’s been able to replicate other Spider tactics before. All of this will ensure a heavy hit on Static, and Miles is no joke in combat thanks to not only being able to tag other marvel street levelers, but his Spider-Sense telling Miles where to go, when to go, and how to do it.

Miles is smart and resourceful.

Miles, thanks to his phone, is capable of hacking tech on the field, due to his hacking skills in the Spider-Man PS4 game. This will definitely be useful when hacking into Static’s own tech, screwing with his arsenal and limiting it. While Miles may have to worry about his webbing reserves, he also has the ability to shoot bio-electric webs, so he will never be out of ways to tangle up Static. Shooting his already super-effective current through his webs will also give Static a good shock.

Of course, with all this in Miles favor, we cannot forget Statics capabilities –

Static’s power is extremely versatile.

Static’s electrical capability is actually insane. He can absorb electricity out of nearby appliances and outlets, take any regular stream of electricity and shrug it off, and affect the electrons of his opponents. He can fly thanks to his saucer, allowing him extra maneuverability on the field. He has tossed a bunch of lockers into space which has been calced at over town level, ensuring his electric powers hit hard.
His electricity is extremely potent, and accelerates his healing capability to the point of reattaching severed limbs. He can make aura visible to any living creature, countering Miles ability to turn invisible. Static can generate an emp blast from himself shutting down any close-by tech including Miles web shooters and cellphone.

Static is a science whiz.

One of Statics key traits is using a scientific solution to solve a problem he is having while in the middle of a fight. He’s legitimately a smart kid, same as Miles, but more often than not Static has repeatedly turned to science to figure out how to work around an opponent’s abilities or utilize an area in a way his opponent wouldn’t expect. Like in the second episode of the TV series where he took a fight in an area where there was supposedly no metal or electricity for him to use, and Static using underground sewage pipes to surprise his rival Hotstreak.

Who wins?

What this fight really comes down to is who is more capable of getting a leg up on the other. If Miles ability to turn invisible was at play here, he’d be able to pull something to win, but even including that, Static legitimately has counters to just about anything Miles can throw at him.

Invisibility? Static can make his aura visible rendering that moot.

Hacking? Static can send off an EMP blast shutting down all of Miles tech.

Wall crawling? Static can screw with electrons to the point where even he can stick on walls like a spider, and mess with electrons to do the opposite, meaning he can take away one of Miles key abilities.

Electricity? While Miles electric powers are very potent, and would no doubt do a number on Static because of its haxy tendency to aim directly to a person’s immune system, Miles has had problems with insulators before, like Scorpion and his Uncle Aaron (Though they’ve remarked the blasts still hurt). Static having insulated gloves ensures he can resist and coil up Miles at a distance and stay at an advantage.

Spider sense? Static (While blood lusted) was capable of taking out Ravager, a similarly flexible and agile opponent with the ability of precognition. Showing that even if you can see into the future, you need to be fast and tough enough to deal with what your opponent is whipping out.

Even without that, Static is familiar with spider-like opponents like Anansi the Spider,  who boasts powers like wall crawling to the hero (With a little quip from Static referencing Spider-man, funnily enough)

While I do think Miles can scale to other Spider-men, Statics feats have been calced at way higher, most notably his fight with Permafrost in the television series where she summoned a snow storm. (Even if you don’t agree with the higher end levels of this feat being city level, Static still has a solid town level feat, and fighting Permafrost at least adds credibility to the latter.)

Miles is a tough fighter, and under certain circumstances I could definitely see him taking this, but because of Statics numerous counters, haxy abilities, experience and smarts, I don’t think Miles will be able to web up a win.

Static is gonna put a shock to Miles’ system.

(TLDR at bottom but I suggest you read the whole thing)

Ayy lmao my first ever prediction blog

Nah, Byleth actually looks kinda fun to play from a technical standpoint, and I’m glad FE fans are happy. But in terms of character pick, I am a bit disappointed we didn’t get Dante or Travis or Scorpion or Crash or-

Anyway

I’m honestly pretty hyped to actually be here I always look forward to these blogs

Also shoutout to the DBW Discord server and thank you to the G1DFB guys for letting me work on an official prediction blog for the first time

Aight so first of all:
I AM SO EXCITED FOR THIS FIGHT AAAAAAAAA

It’s the third Marvel vs DC (technically Milestone) premiere in a row, but I don’t mind cause this fight is thematic and has awesome animation potential. RIP Miles vs Deku, though, at least for now. Or maybe not, if you much prefer VS Static (like me).
The true big brains are the ones who wanted Spider-Man Battle Royale

This will probably be my favorite season opener regardless of who wins. I mean, you got JT Music, Omega Sparx, and SWATS on the track? Damn right this fight deserves some rap. And Kiid in-office? Hell yeah.

Into The Spiderverse was, is, and will always be pure and utter bliss, and Static Shock is a pretty damn good cartoon.

We’re aware his actual name is just Static but Static Shock is his more recognized (and tbh cooler) moniker
Look up Static Shock, you’ll get the cartoon.
Look up Static, you’ll get a dictionary definition.

Anyway, I got a real good feeling about season 7, this is gonna be a ride for sure. And we’re starting it off with a bang.

...And the unfortunate but likely death of a Spider-Man. (Which would put the Spidey character track record at 2-3, with Miles joining Carnage and 2099)

A fight where DC beats Marvel and it isn’t between heralds. Nice. The side of me that prefers Miles as a character is sulking, but the side of me that prefers DC and also likes Static is pretty content.

But enough boondoggling.

It’s easy to think Miles would win this. It’s a fight between DC and Marvel street levelers, and a Spider-Man comparable to Peter Parker against a kid from Dakota who’s just a younger Electro, right?

But looking deeper into these two is a ride. Man, it gets crazy.

First, comparing Static to Electro isn’t 1-to-1. Static’s immensely smarter, his electromagnetic abilities are something Electro doesn’t have (unless you count certain special circumstances, but it’s implied that he then lost those powers, and even then, Static’s are more expansive), he doesn’t have a weakness to water in the primary source material, and his power output is straight up better. I mean, Electro’s pretty jobby anyway, be it 616 or 1610. Static’s definitely a superior foe.

Let’s look at the stat trio. Speed is probably the closest area. At their peak, both have or scale to laser reaction feats, putting them anywhere from relativistic to FTL. Spider-Sense kinda stops mattering once you take into account that Static was handling Ravager, who actually has precognition powers. So already better than Spider-Sense. And he didn’t just keep pace with her, no, he was blitzing her. Anyway, this plus Static’s laser feats being more consistent and direct prompts me to give him the speed edge, though not a big one.

When it comes to power output, it should be Static’s. Even Miles’ Mega Venom Blast isn’t as strong as Static’s electricity being able to match storm creating foes. There are also a few problems with Miles scaling to Electro influencing that storm.
  1. Outlier-ish
  2. Electro didn’t create the storm, just influenced it, and we don’t know how much he influenced it either
  3. Miles only took a small portion of Electro’s power and was still KO’d
  4. Electro was out of the empowering mech when he hit Miles
  5. It was made clear our heroes couldn’t match city levels of destruction
  6. The cartoon is a secondary source

So with that said, Static’s power output should be a lot better. But physical strength is a different story. Spider-Men can beat characters like Doc Ock and Rhino, the former of which has arms that can protect him from nuclear blasts and the latter being able to take hits from Iron Man. Static can only reach this kind of power through physically amping himself with electricity. And even then, Miles is definitely the more physical fighter.

Then there’s durability. Both can take all matters of explosive, concussive, electrical etc. This should really scale to their AP in the end, so it’s fair to say this category is relatively even.

But honestly? Stats aren’t really the most important thing here. What really gives Static a huge edge over Miles is abilities.

First, let’s discuss something vital. We know Miles has no special resistance to electricity, seeing as how his own Venom Blast was used to hurt him. Static, on the other hand, does have electrical resistances, but has still been damaged by electrokinetics before. Static can most certainly hurt Miles, but can Miles do the same with his own bio-electricity?

Well, other than Static’s insulated gloves that defend against that, I’m gonna say “yes”. Static has been shocked before, and Miles can actually hurt Electro with his electricity, and Electro’s whole body is comprised of the stuff.

Still, Static can hurt Miles too, which balances it out. But then it tips in Static’s favor when his powers branch out way more than Miles. Static’s electromagnetism can control the environment and mess with Miles’ web shooters. His electromagnetic shields can repel Miles. He has more offensive options with his electrical powers. He can become a human EMP, another way to short out Miles’ web shooters.

On a general scale, Static pretty much counters whatever Miles can throw at him, and can do way more.

Camouflage? Static has trackers, UV light vision, and can see bio-electric auras.

Wall crawling? Static cling lets Static do the same, and stop Miles from doing so.

Web swinging? Not as good as flying, my guy.

Spider-Sense? Static’s seen it all before.

The real kicker here is how Miles fights VS how Static fights. Miles is all about getting in close and decimating his opponent in CQC, and using his Venom Blast to take foes out.

Static is the opposite. He fights from afar and blasts his enemies alongside using his electromagnetism to control their maneuverability, all while keeping out of reach.

Static’s fighting style directly counters Miles’. Miles can’t get in close due to electromagnetism hindering his movement, electric bolts constantly being thrown at him, his web-shooters being disabled and having to rely on bio-electric threads, his camouflage being useless, his crawling on walls being completely negated, and Static’s flight being out of his reach.

In the unlikely event he does manage to get in close, Static’s fast enough to get out of harm’s way, durable enough to take some hits, and has shields as well as way better overall defenses. Static can also reattach his limbs with electricity. Miles just can’t get it with Virgil.

And last but not least, Static’s ability to work out complex physics equations and how his opponents’ powers work could very well give him an opening to outsmart Miles and exploit him, if the other electrokinetic foes Static has fought are any clue.

So there you have it. My first ever prediction blog contribution. Here’s to hopefully 19 more this season (if the one less week to work on these isn’t too brutal)
Looking forward to season 7, and see you on the 26th.

TLDR: Static wins. He’s too powerful and too fast. He can easily outsmart Miles. Miles’ best abilities and attributes get ignored, countered, or negated. Static can straight up fry him for afar. Miles may be physically stronger and better at hand to hand, but that’s about all he has going for him.

Static was Miles ahead of the competition.

EDIT: Saw the Peek, it looks great and the OST sounds bomb. But anyway, we did a little bit of last minute rethinking before releasing the blog and found the stat comparison between these two is actually closer than perceived. Still doesn’t change my vote though. For Static’s experience, versatility, and hard counters not to matter, Miles would have to have a pretty sizable advantage in all 3 stats, and I don’t see that.

My last appearance in the blog was for Season 6’s finale. (Btw, All Might vs Might Guy was fucking awesome. The fight’s soundtrack was pretty Mighty.) Now I’m here for Season 7’s premiere.

First off, I would like to say that I’m glad that the match-up isn’t Miles vs Deku. I know how popular it is and how many people want it, but Deku isn’t ready. He’s unlocking 6 more quirks in the manga, and the newest MHA movie (which has only been released in Japan) apparently gives him crazy new feats. And for those asking why didn’t Death Battle just simply wait for Deku to be ready, you do know that returning combatants is a thing in the show, right? Anyway, I’m glad Static was chosen. In fact, I never thought of Static as a possible opponent for Miles before KirbyKid’s Community Death Battle, so I was thrilled when Death Battle announced it as an episode. Static Shock is one of my favorite superhero shows of all time.

Anyway, time for my verdict.

In terms of stats, Miles vs Static appears to be a close fight as both combatants are in the same ballpark. Therefore, we’ll have to go into the details. While Miles should be physically stronger, Static can amp his physical capabilities with his powers. When it comes to destructive capability and the power output of their electrical abilities, Static has the better advantage. Static once performed an explosion feat that’s comparable to Mile’s town level feats. Additionally, he’s comparable to Permafrost, who created a snowstorm that covered Dakota City.

However, speed happens to be really close between the two. Both combatants have dodged and reacted to lasers, meaning they’re at least relativistic or faster than light. While the Spider Sense will alert for any incoming attacks, Miles will still have to react to them. Meanwhile, Static, without holding back, fought and blitzed Ravager/Rose Wilson, who had the power of precognition which lets her see into the immediate future and allows her to react to oncoming attacks against her and to counter them accordingly. Additionally, Static is more consistent with his feats of dodging lasers. As a result, Static should have the upper hand in speed.

Now let’s go back to talking about Static’s electrical powers. He’s extremely versatile when it comes to his electromagnetism and electrokinesis. As a result, there are many things he can do to counter Miles’ abilities.

First off, Static’s enhanced vision and bioelectric aura detection allows him to track down Miles if he ever decides to go camouflage. Second, Static’s static cling allows him to stick onto walls and even reverse Miles’ wall-crawling. Third, Static’s electromagnetism could mess up Miles’ web shooters. Fourth, Static has better maneuverability thanks to his static saucer. Lastly, Static’s insulated gloves and electric resistance/absorption can serve as a great defense against Miles’ bioelectric attacks. While Static has been shocked by abnormal electrical imbalances and by some bang babies, Miles’ bioelectric attacks is his body’s natural electricity. Sure those were able to harm Electro, but Static is on a whole different level than Electro.

Additionally, Static has other abilities left in his arsenal to take down Miles such as magnetizing, creating barriers and force fields, control people’s electrons, electrical impulse disruption, and many others. Not only that, Static has something that his opponent doesn’t. A healing factor, one that’s great enough to allow him to reattach limbs.

Finally, there’s the battle of intelligence. Both are extremely smart, but Static has been a genius ever since he was a young teen. As a result, he’s been able to utilize his intelligence during combat to get the best over his opponents or saving the day. I believe this is the last edge Static needs to go in for the kill.

Overall, despite the fight appearing close from afar, Static has the power output, destructive capability, speed, versatility, countermeasures, and intelligence needed to win this fight. Will Static Shock everyone in this fight by claiming the win? You bet he will.

Kingsly

Hi.
Anyways, this is a pretty interesting matchup, certainly one of the closer cape fights. Miles is one of the most popular new comic characters of the last decade (can’t believe I can no longer say “this decade” any more) and Spiderverse is a pretty stunningly animated film, while Static is a character who doesn’t get much attention these days. Blame copyright holders. It’s nice to see him get a bit of love here, since he certainly isn’t doing much in media otherwise.

Speed is relatively even here. Both characters have dodged lasers, or scale to people who have done so, placing them at solidly relativistic in terms of reactions. Thing is that Miles and other Spidey characters generally require the spider sense enhancing their reactions in order to get to that level, while Static is just naturally that fast. That isn’t really too big a deal, considering spider sense is always gonna be active for Miles here, but it is a pretty unreliable tool a lot of the time, while Static doesn’t have any sort of caveats to his speed. Without the sense, Miles only gets quad-mach speeds due to Marvel’s erection for the term ‘microsecond’. Also, a lot of those rela feats for Spidey characters can be easily read as just aimdodging, while Static’s feats on that level are a lot more solid.

Strength is where it gets a bit dubious. Miles is pretty solidly at town level, he and other spider people routinely smash Doc Ock’s arms, which have, on various different occasions, protected him from nuclear explosions. Static is way less looked into though, so his strength is a lot less clear. Despite that though, he’s still more than powerful enough to keep up. In the cartoon, he’s thrown large metal containers into orbit, the kinetic energy of which should roughly be town level (when I calced it I got a result of about 2.1 kilotons). He also scales to Permafrost considering they fought and traded attacks, who created a massive snowstorm covering most of the city, on par with Miles’s general pay-grade. One problem is that both of these feats come from the Static cartoon, not the comics, so it’s debatable if they should be included. I don’t really think that’s a big deal though, Static as a character is so light on history, with the cartoon comprising such a huge part of it, that it’s not really that contradictory to how he is in the comics just because there isn’t much to to contradict in the first place. It’s not like cartoon Static is some wildly different character. Even then, the comics have various showings which support his cartoon feats, such as him draining energy from several city blocks, briefly matching Superboy’s tactile telekinesis, and lighting up a large portion of the sky with his electricity, so I don’t see why these shouldn’t be considered.

There isn’t much to say durability wise, since it should scale to their AP here. In terms of electrical attacks, Miles has taken numerous shocks from the likes of Electro before, so Static’s powers shouldn’t be anything new to him, while Static has repeatedly been shown as resistant to most forms of electricity (though he’s been shocked a few times before). This is a good time to bring up that feat in Ultimate Spider-Man of Electro influencing a massive storm over New York, bigger than Permafrost’s even. If we’re including cartoon feats for Static, then there’s an argument we should include this for Miles. There are a few problems with it though, namely that we don’t know how much influence Electro had over the storm. It’s been established that the Siege Perilous (the thing amping him at the time) can create lightning, we see it do just that in later episodes, but there’s no indication in the episode that Electro had much of a hand in the storm himself. We don’t see it forming, it just appears after Electro escapes confinement, and he’s never been shown to have the power to manipulate the weather like that previously. Even the Siege Perilous itself is limited to creating portals of lightning which cover a building at most. The best you can say is that he influenced its formation, which is still impressive, just not nearly as much. Beyond that, while Miles did take a blast from him, it was only a small discharge of his full power, and it still knocked Miles out cold. It’s also worth noting that Electro exited the mech which was stated to be empowering him at the time, which is what he was in when the storm first shows up. He was likely a lot weaker at the time, and he still one-shot Miles. Also, it was repeatedly established in that very same episode that the spider people wouldn’t have been able to survive the mech’s self destruction, which was said to be city destroying in terms of capabilities. With all that in mind, even if we do include it for Miles, it would likely only come out to about where Static is in terms of power, not enough for Miles to take the win on its own. Including it in the first place is dubious anyway, it’s a feat massively above what Miles is capable of in the comics, more so than Static even, from an at best secondary source of media that has numerous caveats, so I’m not really sure you can give it as a genuine feat for Miles here.

Beyond that wall of text and into factors other than stats, Static still has an edge. He’s a lot more versatile and his abilities cover a wide degree of options for him. For example, he can boost his defence with forcefield creation, while simultaneously attacking with electric shocks and manipulated metal constructs, while Miles is mainly stuck with offensive options. Speaking of, Static’s influence over metal gives him a distinct advantage in terms of battlefield control. He can change the terrain to whatever he wants, and essentially dictate Miles’s options for maneuvering and where to go, which is a pretty notable thing when stats are close like this. In comparison, Miles has no such ways of reliably changing Static’s options like that. Plus, Static is also a lot more mobile. In general, he likes to attack from a distance while flying on his saucer, so Miles is gonna have to get in close if he wants to do some serious damage with his physical blows. After all, his webbing can run out, and Static should be quick enough to dodge it anyways. Miles is limited to just web swinging and wall crawling here, which is significantly less advantageous than Static’s free-form flight. That’s not to say Miles doesn’t have some useful skills of his own, but in general they’re not quite as useful. His invisibility is essentially completely countered by Static being able to sense people’s auras, his webbing is on a limited supply and likely won’t do much to Static in the first place, and even his spider-sense isn’t anything Static hasn’t dealt with before. After all, he’s outmatched Ravager in the New 52, who has straight-up precognition. Wall clinging isn’t much of a help here either. It’s been stated to work based on bio-electrical forces, which Static has control over. Given that, he should just be able to completely disable Miles’s wall-crawling, which leaves him even more of a sitting duck, especially if his webbing runs out. The venom shock is all Miles really has left, and it definitely provides his most solid path to victory. It’s been shown to work on similarly electricity immune people such as Ultimate Electro before, and Static himself has been harmed by electricity on different occasions. If Miles does land it, then he should be more than capable of doing enough damage while Static is out cold to take the win. The main trouble is landing it in the first place. Again, Miles is notably less mobile than Static here, and the venom shock only works up-close. Static can disable Miles’s wall-crawling and force him to run out of webbing, either by stalling or crushing the metal in his web-shooters, at which point Miles doesn’t have a solid way of hitting Static with the “Hey” while Static can just blast him with electricity from a distance. Even his energy threads aren’t of much benefit. They’re still unlikely to hit Static, are far less reliable for movement than his standard webbing, and it’s unclear if he can even use them to swing that well given how light they are and the fact that they’re more used to tie up foes rather than for verticality. With that in mind, Miles’s main hope for a win here becomes pretty unlikely.

Moving on from all that and into pure experience, both are generally depicted as young teenagers who are new to the super-hero business, so neither is really shown to be that well-versed. It’s worth noting though that while both are incredibly intelligent, Static has been a genius all his life, and in some future timelines has gone on to lead the Justice League. Miles is more skilled in hand-to-hand, and in close-range has solid advantage given that Static isn’t exactly known for up-close combat. Trouble is that it’s pretty unlikely the fight will go to close range in the first place. As explained, Miles will eventually just become essentially locked to the ground once his wall-crawling and webbing are gone, while Static can remain in flight for much longer. At that point, given that Static is comparable in speed, Miles really doesn’t have any reliable way of hitting Static at all, while Static can just pelt him with energy blasts from a distance until he wins. Even while his web-shooters are active, Static can dodge and maneuver around them for long enough to stall him out and make him almost completely grounded. Vergil is certainly smart enough to come up with those sorts of tactics (yes I did finally call him something other than Static), and even if Miles realises what he’s doing, he doesn’t have much of a way to put a stop to Static just flying up high and chip damaging him to death.

It’s a relatively close match, and Miles certainly has ways to win, but I think Static’s power and abilities are just too much for Miles to handle in general. I can’t come up with any decent puns here, sorry.
