“Power doesn’t corrupt people, people corrupt power.”
-William Gaddis
Omni-Man, the treacherous Viltrumite soldier and father of Invincible.
Homelander, Vought’s diabolical super-celebrity and archenemy to The Boys.
Superman. The first superhero sensation to hit the scene. More than just a character, he and many others that have followed in his footsteps symbolize what it means to be a savior. It means hope, courage, sacrifice, and most importantly, an incorruptible heart. After all, so much power in the hands of a righteous man can only be a good thing. But what happens when this level of strength and influence is used, possibly even meant, for sinister intentions? Many have pondered, but these two actualize this terrifying concept.
They’re questionable fathers, lousy teammates, dangerous supremacists, and excellent bullshitters. Hot off the successes of their freshly adapted TV shows, the latest gritty and satirical takes on superhero pop culture are ready to lunge at each other’s throats, regardless of who gets caught up in the carnage. It’s time for one very bloody DEATH BATTLE!
NOTE:
These two series are known for being extremely violent and gory. In the case of The Boys comics especially, there is an excess of adult themes and sexual overtones that we will try to avoid, but may end up implying. Any and all derogatory terms or slurs present will be censored. If you are someone who is distressed by any of these subject matters, then we at the G1DBFB would recommend not reading this blog.
Also, Vought Industries attempted to bribe the members of the G1DBFB, we said no and we will be fairly and objectively analyzing these two violent characters' weapons, armor, and skills to see who we think would win a fight.
Lastly, to anyone who is only familiar with the television shows for each character: spoilers abound. You have been warned.
Background
Omni-Man
The world of Invincible is like any other comic book fiction, with the bad guys causing trouble and the good guys saving the day. At the forefront was the elite superhero team, the Guardians of the Globe. And right by their side was the strongest hero around, Nolan, or as the world knew him, Omni-Man.
Hailing from the alien world of Viltrum, a peaceful planet of benevolent inhabitants with amazing abilities, Nolan came to Earth to share the prosperity and offer himself fully as a defender. Between all the aliens, mutants, and goons, there was hardly any threat or criminal that could stand up to him. Beyond kicking some serious ass, he met a human woman, Deborah Grayson, and the two fell in love. They eventually married, and had a half-human, half-Viltrumite son they named Mark.
Mark admired his father’s heroism, and awaited the day his own powers would develop so he could be just like him. When they finally did, he took to the skies, dubbed himself the hero “Invincible”, and kickstarted his career as his dear old pop’s successor. Everything seemed great. For a while. But most unfortunately, Nolan’s trusted friends in the GotG were all brutally slaughtered. It was a sickening and brutal crime scene. Who could’ve done this, you ask? None other than the great Omni-Man.
It turns out that the whole story about Viltrumites being peaceful protectors was a hoax, fed to the public and Nolan’s family to hide his true intentions. In actuality, the Viltrumites were a Darwinist society that culled the weakest of its population, leaving the remainder to ravage many other civilizations in the galaxy, expanding their supremacist Viltrumite empire. Nolan had been assigned to Earth, and it was there he got the public’s trust, murdered the best heroes, and fathered a son he would use to help in the takeover.
But that’s not what happened. Mark was obviously more than a bit attached to Earth, and when he learned the truth, he refused to back down. He fought, but horribly lost to his father, and their battle killed many in collateral damage. The government and pretty much every other hero were outmatched. Earth seemed doomed, but Nolan realized that his love for his son had overpowered his loyalty to the empire. Conflicted, he fled from Earth, committing an act of desertion.
Nolan tried to distract himself through carrying out the usual routine with other planets, even starting up another family, but it was fruitless. When he and Mark were reunited, his will had faltered, and his exterior was chipping away. Realizing the systematic wrongdoings of his people thanks to his son’s guidance, the two Viltrumites teamed up with beings across the galaxy to take on the empire and save Earth. It was a strenuous effort, but eventually, they rallied enough support from the Viltrumites to turn on Thragg, their brutal Grand Regent. Thragg fought back with an army of his own, and though he was ultimately defeated, Nolan ultimately succumbed to his injuries in the conflict, leaving behind two separate, now united, families. His change of heart resonated with his son, who started his own family with another superhero by the name of Atom Eve. It’s hard to say whether Omni-Man truly atoned for his actions, but the world can rest easy under the watchful eye of his invincible legacy.

Equipment
Omni-Man
Superhero Suit
Tailor-made for him by superhero costume creator extraordinaire Art Rosenbaum, Omni-Man’s Earth attire is well-suited for his abilities. The costume has shown to be highly durable due to being made from Smart Atoms, as well as somewhat resistant to heat and specially cleaned via ionic cleaning machines.
Telepathic Earpiece
As there’s no way to hear in space (at least in the real world), Nolan wears a special earpiece that allows him to telepathically communicate with others even if they don’t have the earpiece as well.
Homelander
Compound V
An special alchemical “super serum” designed to enhance the human body and mind to around 15-20 times stronger normally. Created by Jonah Vogelbaum during both World Wars, when injected into normal humans it gives them superpowers whilst also making their poop blue. When injected or inhaled by Supes, it increases their power even further, which Homelander has taken advantage of in the past.
Abilities
Omni-Man
Viltrumite Physiology
Being a Viltrumite is basically like being a Greek god. The inhabitants of Viltrum are naturally gifted with strength and speed far beyond most other species in the galaxy. They’re practically invulnerable to anything that isn’t another Viltrumite. They live for thousands of years, aging at a highly decelerated rate, and only grow more powerful with age. Additionally, their DNA aggressively self-repairs and adapt, and surviving near-death experiences only heightens their already impressive strength, much like a Saiyan. Their bodies are also naturally vacuum resistant, and they can hold their breath for up to two weeks straight, even during combat.
Smart Atom Manipulation
Viltrumites have the ability to subconsciously manipulate atoms in their body known as Smart Atoms. Smart Atoms are different from regular atoms - while most atoms have a fixed property, Smart Atoms adjust their status in relation to both the user and the environment, fundamentally changing the body’s makeup when pushed under extreme conditions or under extreme force. For example, a Smart Atom user will have their lungs altered in order to extract more energy from oxygen and thus require less oxygen in order to breathe. They can also absorb Background Energy, which can be used to perform numerous things when used properly.
Due to Viltrumite bodies often coming under a lot of stress, their tissues have become increasingly hardened, making them nigh-indestructible unless fighting against another Viltriumite, or under conditions such as being inside of the Sun. These Smart Atoms can also form a force-field around their bodies to protect from heat and friction.
Graviton Atoms Manipulation
It has been speculated that Omni-Man’s superhuman speed, stamina, enhanced senses and method of flight is through the manipulation of Graviton atoms. Omni-Man can remove the gravity restrictions placed upon himself and other beings in order to allow himself to levitate and fly at extremely high speeds, to the point that he flew out of the solar system in two weeks at most. As stated above, Graviton atoms are also theorized to give him senses heightened enough to discern invisible soldiers.
Martial Arts
Having been trained to fight from birth and been alive for over 2000 years, Omni-Man is certainly a warrior. While he doesn’t use any known martial arts styles that are found on Earth, Omni-Man’s fighting style can best be described as all-out aggression, using physical strikes, grapples and taking advantage of anyone and anything to get the leg up in combat. It’s no wonder he went head-to-head with Thragg, one of the strongest Viltrimutes, in close-quarters combat.
High Stamina
It takes a long time before a Viltrimite needs to slow down, as their stamina allows them to fight for days, weeks, even months, on end.
Shockwave Creation
With a single clap of his hands, Nolan can create localized earthquakes, as well as a powerful air current to devastate anything that’s in front of him.
Healing Factor/Regeneration
Omni-Man, like all Viltrumites, is able to rapidly heal from injuries that would kill a normal human being. Viltrumite healing factors are directly dependent on their heart; so as long as their heart is not sufficiently damaged or destroyed, they will keep on healing through more extreme injuries. Tougher injuries, however, will take a longer time to heal. Omni-Man took two weeks to heal from getting a hand through his chest (as seen above), and Invincible had his guts torn out, which took him months to recover from. In terms of the sheer potency of this biological ability, Nolan can come back from being impaled through the chest and having his eye popped out, while Mark could come back from being reduced to his musculature.
Resistances
Since Viltrimute bodies are adaptable to any environment, Nolan has naturally gained resistances to various dangers over the years as a soldier and as a hero:
Heat: Unbothered by magma and whilst he does have an upper limit, it is stated that his skin can withstand heat up to 3588 Kelvin or as hot as the surface of the Sun. He has also no-sold a satellite laser and partially tanked Supreme’s heat vision (Crossover).
Extreme Cold: Similarly, it’s stated that his skin can survive temperatures down to 158 Kelvin or near absolute-zero.
Poisons, Disease and Radiation: According to tests by the U.S. government, Viltrumite cells are unaffected by any of these.
Homelander
Supe Physiology
Despite what you might’ve heard from Vought’s marketing team, the so-called “super-abled” individuals named “The Supes” are not God’s own handpicked Chosen Ones, but instead regular children medicated with Compound V that leads them to develop these superpowers as well as increasing their lifespan.
The strength of the acquired superpower will depend on the dosage given, but even Supes far from Homelander’s level were able to shrug off high-caliber bullets and intense blunt force trauma without being worse for wear. As Vought’s most expensive investment, Homelander’s array of abilities, strength, speed and stamina is unmatched within the community.
Flight
Homelander’s favorite way of getting to (or sometimes escaping from) the crime scene is by flying. He can levitate or propel himself forward at high speeds, covering vast distances in a matter of seconds, fast enough to catch up to a plane or even a private jet.
Laser Vision
Not being too big a fan of putting effort or wasting energy, Homelander instead prefers to beam and burn his problems away with eye lasers. This has been his go-to ever since he was born. And who can blame him? They’re so very effective, they can melt or explode a gun right in the crook’s hand, slice a jet in two with a glance, give another high-tier Supe a third-degree burn, and effortlessly mow down any person who happens to be brave or stupid enough to stand in his way.
X-Ray Vision
Does exactly what it says on the tin and is precise enough for him to see a fuel line of a helicopter. Or, for example, being so infatuated with his boss to spy on her through the wall. Or to check on Queen Maeve. My, my.
Enhanced Senses
Homelander possesses tremendous auditory awareness, allowing him to detect sounds up to 200,000 Hz or from miles away, whether it be an explosion, or an uncomfortable conversation he wasn’t supposed to hear but wanted to. He is even capable of detecting a person’s heartbeat, blood pressure and even the neurons firing in their brain with medical precision. He’s even able to literally sniff out a liar by the smell of his sweat, or differentiate emotions by a person’s scent.
Sonic Voice
Homelander loves hearing himself talk, and he can ensure that you will hear him as well no matter where you are. He’s able to produce screams loud enough to rupture the ear drums of a dozen people around him.
Resurrection/Healing Factor
As stated before, Supes specifically have Compound V inside their brains to bring them to life in case they do indeed die (it should be noted that if their brains are destroyed, the regeneration will not work). On top of that, Homelander seems to possess a minor healing factor, as seen when he healed from Maeve's attack in a relatively short time-frame.

Weaknesses
Omni-Man
Omni-Man isn’t invincible to everything. Viltrumites’ internal systems are still vulnerable, meaning if his internal organs are disrupted, it can be problematic. He should also be vulnerable to having his equilibrium thrown out of balance. In his fight against Thragg, he’s gravely injured, and it’s later shown that his heart is essential for the process of the Viltrumite healing factor to take place. As such, if it is damaged sufficiently, then a Viltrumite’s survivability is drastically reduced. It’s also shown that the Smart Atoms of Viltrumites can’t withstand extreme temperatures for long periods of time such as inside the Sun, as the heat rips the atomic bonds apart. Moveover, precise, inaudible sonic pulses could be used to incapacitate or even kill him.
Homelander
Homelander has… issues. A lot of them. Growing up in an environment telling him that he’s the best has instilled in him a MASSIVE god complex. Since he views everyone as below him, and himself as infallible, whenever he faces genuine conflict of any kind, he tends to freak out, often losing any semblance of sanity and composure. He also doesn’t need to try very much, so his fighting skill and combat intelligence are, surprisingly, rather underdeveloped for somebody with his level of power, as he would rather rely on killing his targets quickly rather than fighting them in a prolonged battle.

Before Verdict Q&A
Image Crossovers are a bit of a mess when determining canonicity. Some writers have gone on record to mention that crossovers involve in-universe versions of the characters being crossed with. At other times, crossovers are noted to affect Image as a whole, such as Invincible War.
In regards to the Supreme crossover, the implication from the comic suggests it is the Nolan from the Invincible comics who is present for this fight and not in an in-universe copy. The events of Invincible Issue 2 are mentioned and seemingly lead into this fight. As such, we are using Supreme’s scaling for this blog, as both are treated equal in their fight.
In regards to the Tick crossover, We see Mark sent to the Tick’s world and a note by the writers mentions it was an intended crossover as a special event. The story is completely canon.
By far one of the most controversial planet-busting feats in recent memory, the destruction of Viltrum in Issue 75 of Invincible has caused many debates on whether it counts as a feat for Nolan and Mark.
In essence, the Viltrum bust was a shared feat between the Space Racer's laser and three Viltrumites. The laser was noted to “destabilize” the core and Thaedus notes they may die if they collide with the planet if the core stabilizes.
However, an important thing to note is Thaedus implies the destabilization was only temporary, and would revert shortly after. This is strange if the space gun’s purpose was to damage the core. Rather, a more viable answer is heat. Viltrumites are noted to be able to take up to 6,000° Fahrenheit, or roughly 3315.5° Celsius without it being a major issue, but higher temperatures will kill them. Temperature in the inner core of Earth is about 5,200° Celsius (9,392° Fahrenheit), which is above Viltrumite heat resistance. Considering Viltrum’s core, the gun’s destabilization most likely affected the core in a manner in which the Viltrumites could pass without burning to death.
Later issues acknowledge the planet bust was caused by the three ramming into the world. Even just accounting for the initial impact zone (and only that) still nets over a hundred petatons for each Viltrumite. (Even a lower-end calc nets each Viltrumite at least 1 petaton at the very minimum). Planet busting is also consistent with the feats and scaling from the crossovers with Supreme and The Tick, alongside Battle Beast’s fight with Thragg being stated as capable of destroying a planet.
Omni-Man’s page notes this as theoretical, and Allen’s page notes that increases to travel/flight speed will automatically correlate to the individual’s reaction speed via their Smart Atoms.
Omnipotus is an alien invader who was fought by Mark on more than one occasion. Omnipotus gains power by manipulating energy, which has increasingly devastating effects on his surroundings. When sufficiently powered up, Omnipotus can destroy a star system in a short period of time, and over greater time, he can destroy an entire universe, thus gaining its power upon its destruction.
In his final fight with Mark he notes he was nearly restored to full power. However, Omnipotus gains energy based on the destruction of matter that he can then channel into himself for more power, and is done via his ability to spatially warp reality. The planet and universe was intact at the time of the final fight, leaving it severely questionable if it was at optimal levels of power. Even if he was, it may be seen as outlier-ish for Mark to scale to this, given Omnipotus is far beyond any other feat in the verse, and they needed three Viltrumites just to planet bust.
Now, on to the bulk of the verdict.
Stats
Yes, indeed it should come as no surprise to anyone that Omni-Man's physical attributes absolutely dwarf those of Homelander.
John was stated to be able to hold up a bridge. Nolan states that he can push away an asteroid the size of Texas. America's Sweetheart can cross the country at hypersonic speeds. The Azure Avenger is capable of interstellar travel. Homelander survived a chemical plant exploding point-blank? Well Omni-Man can endure the entire planet exploding in his face, not to mention being one of the reasons it was destroyed in the first place. Even dividing it by three would give us a result far beyond anything we've seen in The Boys. Or at least, anything that wasn't a tumor-induced hallucination.
The difference is already quite staggering and this is only comparing their direct feats. Accepting the (fairly questionable as is) statements for Homelander such as other Supes being able to fly to the Moon, outrunning tachyons and swimming in the Sun can only close the gap so far and become practically irrelevant when we bring up Nolan's scaling to other Viltrumites like Mark and Thragg, who were capable of much the same. John’s scaling to the likes of Stormfront with his storm creation would most definitely not be enough, and this is once again leaving out Omni-Man’s crossover scaling to The Tick and Supreme. No matter how you slice it Homelander is simply way out of his usual depth.
Arsenals and Abilities:
Homelander has a way larger variety of abilities than Omni-Man, whose main powers are basically your standard Superman powers of speed, strength and flight. Homelander meanwhile has his potent heat vision, giving him much greater range, as he can fire it from quite a fair distance away. This would keep Omni-Man at a distance, as well as exploit Nolan’s weakness to heat, as Viltrumites can be killed by an excess of heat as shown with Thragg. Homelander could also disorient Nolan through his super voice, which could affect his sense of equilibrium and disorient him like what happened with Mark. Both of these abilities could give Homelander a potential leg up compared to Omni-Man who mostly relies on just punches and kicks… in theory.
However, putting this into practice against a foe like Nolan is where things fall apart. The problem is that heat vision has only shown to effectively one-shot opponents that are far, far weaker than Homelander. Against an opponent that is much tougher than him, it’s unlikely that the heat vision will even damage Omni-Man, considering his massive durability advantage. The only way that we could potentially see Homelander using the heat vision to damage Omni-Man is through firing it into his mouth and damaging his internal organs, as it’s been stated that a Viltrmite’s internal organs and body parts are much weaker than their external bodies. However, even that potential wincon is very unlikely, as Homelander will need to catch Omni-Man and force his throat open, which is not going to be easy under any circumstances.
The super voice affecting Omni-Man is also extremely debatable, as based on how fast that Omni-Man can fly (commonly creating sonic booms), it’s not unreasonable to say that his ears do have protection against loud noise. If not, his ears would have long-since been destroyed by flying at such speeds (hell, characters like Queen Maeve were fairly resistant to Homelander’s shouting). It’s likely that Cecil, through researching Viltrumites, found a specific frequency that could damage their equilibrium and potentially kill them, something that Homelander is very unlikely to do in the middle of a fight, as he is not a tactical fighter. All-in-all, it’s unlikely that Homelander’s voice could sufficiently damage Omni-Man’s ears.
Omni-Man, while less versatile than Homelander, doesn’t actually need versatility, since none of Homelander’s tricks or abilities would do much against him. Even the one thing he could do (damage his internal organs through the mouth) is a very unlikely scenario in the first place. While Homelander is more versatile, Omni-Man is pretty much a brick wall in this situation, so there’s really not much Homelander can do to capitalize on his arsenal advantage.
Cosmetics (Intellect, Experience, etc.)
The final nail in Homelander's coffin is the difference in their mentalities.
Omni-Man is a natural-born killing machine, forged in the brutal environment of his home planet where even a single showing of weakness is a death sentence. Brutal scuffles he had to endure just to survive solidified his skills, his character and his strength as a proud member of his warrior race. He was forced to fight just to survive, and is fully willing to do so.
Homelander is anything but that; he is an artificially-made product, intended to sell other products and has never had to fight for anything in his life. Everything he has was given to him on a silver platter. He never had that fighting spirit because he never needed it; he's so far above any threat his world can throw at him that he never had to struggle to achieve any victory, even in the rare moments he was put in such a situation. The one time he faced an enemy close to him in power… he folded.
Which exposes another of his shortcomings - lack of experience. Omni-Man has a good couple thousands of years worth of experience over Homelander, and he spent them fighting a wide array of opponents. Other heroes with powerful and unique abilities, monsters of all shapes and sizes, and even his own people with similar abilities and experiences as his own. Nolan has done it all, while Homelander never faced an enemy that he needed to push himself to overcome, dying the only time he had that opportunity.
Last but not least, let's compare their psychological profiles, yet another dooming comparison for Homelander. He is simply not ready to face an opponent of such incredible power as Omni-Man. He’s accustomed to his comfortable life of being the best, the strongest, the greatest. He bathes in his own glory and is all too familiar with this status quo, so much so that the moment it gets threatened his composure starts to fall apart. He is unable to accept the possibility that he might not be the strongest being in the universe. Facing that reality will make him reckless, unstable, desperate and unable to capitalize on those little advantages he might have over his opponent. Something a more levelheaded opponent like Nolan can and will take advantage of. Granted, the Viltrumite is not without his own anger issues, but he is far better at keeping them under control in the face of immediate danger, like a true soldier would.
Conclusion
As made very clear with the feats demonstrated, this fight is not a close one. Granted, it’s far from the biggest stomp we have had recently, but Omni-Man’s sheer stat advantage (City Level/MHS, possibly FTL vs Multi-Cont to Planet/FTL - MFTL) is something that Homelander can’t overcome. Even taking into account abilities, Omni-Man should have enough counters (or at least is sufficiently durable) that the advantages that Homelander gets from his heat vision and super shout are null. Even looking at intellect and experience, one is an experienced warrior and combatant that has lived for thousands of years, while the other is a man-child who never really properly trained or utilized his powers in any creative way. Omni-Man comes out on top in pretty much every step.
So yeah, ultimately Omni-Man tales all the advantages and Homelander is in all probability going to die. Painfully.
And for anyone disappointed about this fight being a stomp and saying that it shouldn’t have been made in the first place… we’ve had stomps in DEATH BATTLE before. This fight is less about the closeness and more about the potential of the personalities and interactions between these two fighters than anything VS-related. Ultimately, despite this fight not really having much tension in terms of the victor, we at the G1DBFB are excited to see the full episode, which according to the DB team has been a real passion project.
Final Tally
Team Omni-Man: Literally everyone
Team Homelander: lol
