“The road to hell is paved with good intentions.”
Darth Vader, Star Wars’ valiant Chosen One turned Dark Lord of the Sith.
Obito Uchiha, Naruto’s idealistic shinobi turned misguided revolutionary.
We all have our own goals, our destinies, our futures to look out for. Whether to uphold a prophecy or to become something greater in the end. But when tragedy strikes, that hope-filled journey can become replaced with grief and transformed into an unfathomable amount of hatred. Molded and manipulated by sinister puppet masters, these two quite literally masked their tragic past, and directed their anger toward bringing peace through domination.
They’ll do whatever it takes to see things through to the end, but if these fallen angels came head to head, who would reign supreme? Whose misguided cause will truly be the one destined to bring peace? The Dark Lord of the Sith or the Ten-Tails Jinchūriki? Find out who would win a DEATH BATTLE!
In Case You’re Wondering…
With a revisit to the worlds of Star Wars and Naruto, it is important to lay down what is being used in both analyses.
For Vader, we will include lore from both primary Star Wars canons - as we did for Obi-Wan, Yoda, Palpatine, and Boba Fett - meaning that both Legends and Disney information will be discussed. Any sources that are more secondary than Legends, such as Tartakovsky’s Clone Wars and video games like Battlefront, will also be considered, as they are not too different to be included.
For Obito, the primary source will be the manga, with the anime, novels and confirmed canon movies like Naruto: The Last being used as well for supporting evidence. Video games like Storm 4 will be considered, so long as they do not contradict the source material. Road to Ninja will also be considered, as it was heavily supervised by Kishimoto, who also wrote a tie-in chapter for it, and it does not contradict the manga.
Note: Obito is being given his Ten Tails form due to it not only being the culmination of his plan spanning nearly 2 decades, but also due to keeping Six Paths power after losing it. He has access to the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path because of his Rinnegan, and knows the hand signs to merge with the Ten Tails. In other materials such as games, a heavy focus is put on the Ten Tails being accessible to Obito, with even more focus on his time as its host. Narratively and media-wise, the form is absolutely standard.
Without further ado, let us begin.
Background
Darth Vader
For almost a thousand years, the Sith Order had been slowly growing in power and influence. Its two Dark Lords, Darth Plagueis and Darth Sidious, had succeeded in a months-long ritual that tipped the balance of the galaxy-spanning Force towards the Dark Side. Plagueis would attempt to gain ultimate power by influencing Midi-chlorians, organisms that are used to manipulate the force, in order to gain dominance over them. The Force itself however, resisted these attempts and acted of its own accord. It conceived a child with Shmi Skywalker, who would be born as Anakin Skywalker.
Anakin was raised on the harsh desert planet of Tatooine in slavery, but it was by happenstance that he would be found by the Jedi, Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi. After winning Anakin’s freedom in a high stakes podrace, he was brought before the Jedi and was believed to be the prophesied Chosen One. While turned away at first due to his age, the Jedi Council eventually let Anakin be trained by Obi-Wan at the dying Qui-Gon’s wish. He became an extremely powerful Jedi and adept lightsaber user, but eventually learned of his mother’s capture back on Tatooine. He arrived too late to save her, and became enraged, slaughtering the men who had captured her (and not just the men, but the women, and the children too), starting him down the path to the Dark Side.
Around that time, Anakin’s master Obi-Wan learned of the existence of the Clone Army, and with it set into motion events that culminated in the Clone Wars. Anakin became a general and led the Clone 501st Legion into battle, proving time and time again his skill in battle and leadership. Over three years of war, however, Anakin’s distrust in the Jedi Council grew. He was rejected for the position of Jedi Master, they had falsely accused his padawan Ahsoka of a terror attack which drove her to leave the Order, and he was constantly relied on to carry the war effort. Chancellor Palpatine, who was, *gasp*, Darth Sidious in disguise, had been manipulating the young Anakin towards the Dark Side, and finally succeeded by promising Anakin the power to keep his secret wife Padmé alive forever. Anakin, now Darth Vader, turned his back on the Jedi Order, leading the 501st in their purge of the Jedi Temple during Order 66. His rampage was only stopped by Obi-Wan after a fateful duel on the volcano planet Mustafar.
After losing most of his limbs, torched by lava and being left for dead, Vader was quite literally reassembled by Sidious into a massive, imposing black figure and Sidious’ personal enforcer. Fueled by his new hatred of the Jedi and the death of Padmé, who had died in childbirth after his betrayal, he ruthlessly hunted down and exterminated the enemies of his new Empire. After the galaxy had suffered almost 20 years of oppression, the Emperor had constructed the Death Star, a space station capable of destroying an entire planet as the ultimate tool of subjugation. But at the Battle of Yavin, Vader failed to stop its destruction at the hands of Luke Skywalker, his secret son and fledgling Jedi.
After years of chasing down Luke to turn him to the dark side and overthrow the Emperor, it was aboard the second Death Star that Luke would eventually triumph over Vader and reject the Dark Side. In a last-ditch attempt to destroy the Jedi forever, Sidious attempted to kill Luke, but seeing his son being tortured by his master, Vader finally returned to the light, killing Sidious by throwing him down a reactor shaft and costing Vader his own life in the process. In his dying moments, he finally looked at his son with his own two eyes, not as Darth Vader, but as Anakin Skywalker.
Obito Uchiha
The world of shinobi is one made of pain, suffering and emptiness. That is a lesson Obito Uchiha was forced to learn the hard way.
Born in Konoha, the Village Hidden in the Leaves, Obito was your usual aspiring ninja, helping those around him and dreaming to one day become Hokage. Eventually, he became a Genin and was trained by Minato Namikaze, alongside his childhood crush Rin Nohara and rival Kakashi Hatake. But Obito’s life as a shinobi would soon fall into a spiraling tragedy when his team was forced to join the Third Great Ninja War. During this conflict, Minato was separated from his team and Rin was kidnapped. Furious, Obito went to save her, getting into a massive argument with Kakashi. Despite knowing that it would hinder their mission, Obito’s belief that abandoning his friend would be worse than any failure led him straight into a death trap. In this battle, Obito awakened his Sharingan for the very first time, and with the help of Kakashi, managed to defeat the enemy ninja. But the cave they were fighting in collapsed, crushing half of Obito’s body in the process. Gifting Kakashi with one of his eyes as a parting gift and demanding that his friend keep Rin safe while he was gone, Obito perished, never to be seen again.
Or did he?
Before all life left his body, he was saved by the Ghost of the Uchiha, Madara, who utilized the cells of Hashirama Senju to replace the body parts Obito had lost. Madara wished for the young boy to help him change the world, but all Obito cared about was seeing his friends again. Eventually, he succeeded in finding them.
It was then that Obito learned the truth of the world: that pain and misery were inevitable. For true peace to exist, a new world would need to be made. And so, Obito accepted Madara’s mission; he would become “Madara Uchiha” himself, manipulate the Ninja World from behind the scenes and capture all the legendary Tailed Beasts until he could complete the Eye of the Moon Plan, which would create true peace once and for all. To do this, Obito manipulated a young man named Nagato and created the Akatsuki, a group that would make the hunt much easier. He also attempted to capture the Nine-Tails, which resulted in the death of his former mentor Minato and his wife Kushina. He even assisted in the Uchiha Clan Massacre in order to have Itachi Uchiha join his cause. All in the name of peace.
Eventually, most of the Tailed Beasts were captured by Akatsuki, but one continued to resist: The Nine-Tails, sealed away within Minato’s son, somehow continued to evade capture, with every Akatsuki member sent after it dying in the process. Obito continued plotting, getting Itachi’s brother Sasuke to join his cause, before deciding that if the Nine-Tails were not given to him, then he would wage war against all shinobi.
In this Fourth Great Ninja War, Obito fought against Naruto and finally reunited with Kakashi, partaking in a massive battle against the two and the rest of the Allied Shinobi Forces, until he eventually managed to summon the Ten-Tails and absorb it completely, becoming its Jinchūriki, with powers rivaling the legendary Sage of Six Paths. Yet even still, with the help of a traitorous Sasuke, Naruto still managed to defeat Obito. It was then that Obito learned that Naruto was just like him: a boy dreaming to become Hokage… and that deep down, that kind of person was still who Obito truly was. He was lying to himself for years, and had finally understood the truth.
Obito attempted to end the war, but was betrayed by Madara, who took the power of the Ten-Tails for himself and completed the Eye of the Moon Plan, trapping almost all of humanity within the dream world of the Infinite Tsukuyomi. But when Madara was confronted by Naruto and Sasuke, and when Kaguya, the progenitor of chakra arrived, Obito sacrificed his life to give Naruto a chance of changing the world for the better. Despite living with the belief that misery was all that existed in the world, in his dying moments, Obito was finally hopeful for a better future.
Equipment
Darth Vader
Lightsaber
The lightsaber is the standard weapon used by virtually all Jedi and Sith. It uses a Kyber crystal in the hilt to form a blade of pure energy that can slice through almost anything. However, instead of a naturally-formed crystal used by Jedi, Sith instead use Synthetic Red Crystals in Legends or Corrupted Kyber Crystals in Canon, giving them their menacing red blade color. Vader's lightsaber had a thick, rigid handgrip, high-output diatium power cell, dual-phase focusing crystal, and forward-mounted adjustment knobs. He can also dual wield sabers if needed.
A lightsaber may be capable of cutting virtually anything, but there are some exceptions, such as other energy weapons, like electric staves and other lightsabers, or tough materials like Beskar steel used by Mandalorians. Kyber is said to have a strong attunement to the Force, hence its usage by those who have only mastered control over it. Only Force users can bring out the full potential of a Lightsaber. Besides the great offensive potential it affords, a lightsaber is an excellent defensive tool as well. Experienced wielders can deflect and parry laser bolts, and more proficient ones have learned to use them to defend against Force Lightning. Modern lightsabers are said to be as hot as the core of stars.
Vader can also amplify the heat and power of his lightsaber by lacing it with the Force. Doing so gives it enough heat to turn a fortified metal door into molten droplets.
Forms
Lightsaber combat can be broken down into 7 distinct forms, and Vader is said to borrow from all of them:
Form I: Shii-Cho: Known as the Way of the Sarlacc or the Determination Form. The most ancient of all lightsaber combat forms, developed after warriors had learned to use lightsabers over normal bladed weapons. It is regarded as the simplest form to learn, known for its traditional movements that Jedi rely upon when all else fails. It is especially designed for allowing the practitioner to fight multiple opponents at once. A notable practitioner of this lightsaber combat form was Jedi Master Kit Fisto.
Form II: Makashi: Known as the Way of Ysalamiri or the Contention Form. This form employs straightforward dueling techniques akin to fencing, with graceful and flowing movements against a single opponent. Count Dooku, also known as the Sith Lord Darth Tyranus, was a noted practitioner of this form, as were Jedi Master Ki-Adi Mundi and the Sith assassin Asajj Ventress.
Form III: Soresu: Known as the Way of the Mynock, or the Resilience Form, Soresu is a defensive style of combat, focusing on using a lightsaber for protection against almost any threat, particularly long range attacks, without leaving any openings. Due to being more of a self-defense style, it’s often considered the ultimate expression of the non-aggressive Jedi philosophy, making it a perfect style for practitioners like Obi-Wan Kenobi, though even Darth Vader and his apprentice Galen Marek have used this form to their benefit before.
Form IV: Ataru: Known as the Way of the Hawk-Bat or the Aggression Form. Ataru’s focus on acrobatic and rushdown tactics make it the inverse of the ground-based defensive stance of Soresu. This form has many well-known users, including Yoda himself, Qui-Gon Jinn, Kyle Katarn, Plo Koon, Aayla Secura and Ezra Bridger.
Form V: Shien / Djem So: Known as the Way of the Krayt Dragon or the Perseverance Form, this advanced discipline was meant to connect the aggressiveness of Ataru and the defensiveness of Soresu into a single unified style. As the style made heavy use of brute strength and overwhelming an opponent, Vader made this his preferred method of combat.
Form VI: Niman: Known as the Way of the Rancor or the Diplomat’s Form. This form further refined the strengths and weaknesses of the previous forms to create a discipline that is truly moderate by comparison to the forms that came before it. Darth Maul used a modified version of this to handle his unique dual-bladed lightsaber.
Form VII: Juyo / Vaapad: Known as the Way of the Vornskr or the Ferocity Form. This discipline has the user harness their inner focus and use their inner darkness for a wildly unpredictable and unrelenting fighting style that few can reliably answer. Jedi Master Mace Windu was a major proponent of this style.
Armor/Cybernetic Body
After a crash course in the powers of the High Ground, Anakin was quite literally reconstructed by his new master Palpatine, and incorporating Sith alchemy to help heal his broken body, was given a new suit of armor. While it provides some protection, it’s main purpose is as a mobile life support system to keep him alive, although if damaged, Vader can still sustain himself on raw force power alone for several hours. While the suit is cumbersome and uncomfortable, likely an intentional decision from Palpatine to keep Vader from becoming too powerful, Vader would eventually grow used to it. It also has several technological advantages, including:
Chemicals created by Sith Alchemy, boosting his physical strength
His breather can protect against inhaled and atmospheric poisons
Lenses that filter out light and environmental scanners
Infrared/Ultraviolet vision to see in complete darkness
Obito
Gunbai
Passed down between Uchiha clansmen for generations, Obito wielded this non-folding fan while posing as Madara Uchiha. He is quite skilled at using it for offense and defense, even against multiple opponents. It can make small tornadoes meant to empower the wielder’s fire style techniques. The gunbai had the ability to convert incoming chakra into Wind Style transformation, reflecting an opponent’s attack back towards them.
Kusari
A chain Obito used in his younger days. It is meant to ensnare his opponents in conjunction with usage of Kamui.
Shuriken
Shuriken are the most basic and common weaponry a shinobi carries on them. While they are useful mostly as throwing projectiles, they can also be used for close combat but at a less effective rate. A shinobi can use their shuriken to distract an opponent, pin them down, or even kill or incapacitate them if thrown accurately. Along with basic shuriken, Obito also carries larger, arms-length shuriken that he uses as melee weapons via spinning.
Finally, another shuriken variant Obito possesses is the Fuma Shuriken. Larger than the basic shuriken, the Fuma Shuriken is designed to be sharper and more lethal and can be folded for easier storage. The Fuma Shuriken can also be used in melee combat by spinning the blade in one hand and stabbing the opponent directly.
Chakra Receivers
Chakra receivers, also known as chakra rods and black receivers, are black rods shown to be the trademark of anyone who possesses a Rinnegan. Users of the Rinnegan can generate these from their own bodies. Despite seemingly looking like metal, the receivers are actually made of chakra. They’re very durable and sharp enough to easily pierce human bodies. They are versatile tools, with their size and shape being easily adjustable. Obito weaponized them as giant stakes that he launched as projectiles from his Kamui dimension to pierce and pin down the Tailed Beasts. In addition, Obito can manifest chakra chains to bind any target that his receivers are touching, restraining their chakra as a result. He also uses receivers as blades for melee combat, directly released from his palms.
The receivers can be used to transmit the user’s chakra, and the user can change the frequency of their chakra to prevent people from using the receivers to trace them. By stabbing someone with a chakra receiver, a Rinnegan user can transmit their own chakra to disrupt the opponent’s chakra and throw them off their movement. Stabbing an opponent with multiple chakra receivers can immobilize them, and the Rinnegan user can potentially control their target’s movements if close, unless the target’s chakra is powerful enough to resist. Lastly, a Rinnegan user can implant these chakra receivers into six corpses that they can reanimate and control with their chakra. Removing the receivers from the corpses undoes their movement.
Explosives
Obito has used explosive bombs in tandem with his earth style techniques, and explosive tags while attacking in conjunction with Kamui.
Masks
(Source for Image, original artist unknown)
While under the alias of Tobi, Obito hid his face with a variety of masks. His first one, a mask with one eye hole and markings seemingly depicting the Kyuubi, was used during his attack on Konoha. His second and most iconic mask is his orange spiraling mask, which was used when he was in the Akatsuki. Finally, he wore a white mask representing the Infinite Tsukuyomi, which he wore during the Fourth Great Ninja War. They are durable enough to take headbutts from Naruto using Kyuubi Chakra Mode.
Sharingan Collection/Limb Stash
Obito has a massive collection of Sharingan, most likely taken during the Uchiha Massacre. It’s unknown if he can access them normally. He also has a stash of extra Zetsu body parts to replace lost ones in the same location.
Abilities
Darth Vader
Skill/Experience
Across the many battlegrounds of the galaxy, Vader would gain a massive reputation for being an unstoppable warrior and incredible duelist. Both the canon and Legends continuities paint him as an unparalleled lightsaber duelist and Force user. Legends continuity says he trains with droids programmed with the skills of a hundred sword masters, and defeats them so easily he orders upgrades on them. He’s also demonstrated his prowess in combat by frequently defeating even the most skilled Jedi masters of the Order, being praised as the greatest Jedi killer of all time. He’s no slouch to battle experience either, having commanded countless battles across the Clone Wars and Galactic Civil War across over 20 years.
The Force
The Force is an energy field that surrounds and binds all life forms within the universe. The Force was created by life, so naturally it exists within all life forms. A select group of individuals that were born with a high concentration of midi-chlorians (microscopic lifeforms that are found in blood and communicate with the Force on a symbiotic level) were deemed Force-sensitive, allowing them to have a better awareness of the Force that came with the ability to harness it. The Force enhances one’s physical abilities and grants access to several internal and external applications of it. Anakin was quite literally made by the Force itself, and as such his level of power is almost unrivaled. Over his years as a Jedi and Sith, he has learned numerous force techniques.
Here is a minor breakdown of the Force in current canon.
The Dark Side of The Force
The evil side of the Force that feeds off negative emotions and offers raw power to those who study it. The Dark Side feeds on anger, fear, and jealousy. Prolonged use of the Dark Side causes skin degradation and changes the color of the pupils. Vader fell to the Dark Side due to his issues with attachment and the manipulations of Palpatine.
George Lucas has said that the Dark Side is more powerful than the Light Side in combat. The aggression mixed with revenge is what fuels a Dark Side user, and that alone can be dangerous to work with. An opponent exhibiting Dark Side emotions against a Dark Sider can make them stronger. The Dark Side grants unique abilities such as Force Lightning, the ability to control and twist Force Visions, and potentially even the ability to create life via manipulating midi-chlorians.
Force Amplification
Vader, like all other Jedi and Sith, uses the Force to amplify his strength, durability and speed. Examples of amplification by Force wielders include Jedi using the Force to dodge lasers in their starfighters and the Force aiding Obi-Wan in speed against Darth Maul. The Force can be used to keep broken limbs together, and even imbue ordinary weapons with enough power to clash with lightsabers. Vader himself can walk off lightsaber impalement and amplify his strength to the point he can stab through Force barriers. It's this ability that allows him to move and fight with no issue, despite how heavy his armor is.
Telekinesis
One of the primary aspects of the Force is altering the environment and moving objects around the user in the form of telekinesis. His power with telekinesis is sufficient to destroy and move several large metal platforms and break a dam to cause a flood. There are many variations on this technique:
Force Push/Pull: The user can either push objects away or pull the object towards them with a wave of Force energy. In particular, pull can be used to disarm opponents who cannot resist the technique. Besides destructive uses of push, Vader also has used this ability on occasion to remove obstacles, such as pushing away a body of water. He can also charge his push for more destructive results. He also likes to use small pushes for close up defense.
Force Lift: The ability to lift objects into the air, objects and people alike. Jedi most commonly use this technique to clear enemy fleets or lift objects out of their way. Vader has used to lift rubble and machinery before.
Force Blast: A more powerful version of a Force push that has more power behind it than a normal Force push. Darth Vader demonstrated this during the Battle of Kamino, when he used the technique to shatter Starkiller's lightsabers.
Lightsaber Throw: Working in tandem with his lightsaber, he throws it at enemies as a ranged attack. He can also use it as a boomerang.
Force Grip: The basic ability to grab an object with the force and move it around. As a Sith, Vader can use it for more lethal effects, such as:
Force Choke: Using Force grip on an opponent's neck, Vader can use it to choke out an opponent or simply crush their throat. Masters of this technique are noted to be able to buckle the hulls of star cruisers. Vader can choke multiple targets at once and even across interstellar distances. This is due to the distant power of the Force.
Force Wound/Kill: A blanket term for abilities that directly target an opponent's internal organs. Vader has been able to crush a Jedi’s heart and it’s been mentioned he can stop your lungs and heart from working with a mere gesture.
Force Crush: A technique where the user crushes the opponent, imploding their body. While Jedi strayed away from using it except against droids, Sith like Vader have no issue using it on living beings as well.
Force Repulse/Wave: Two similar techniques that use the force to blast away enemies in an area around them, often killing any unlucky enough to be caught in it. He can make shockwaves with his blows using the Force.
Force Maelstrom: An improved version of repulse where Vader gathers objects in the surrounding area before unleashing a more powerful blast.
Precision
Vader is quite precise with the Force. He has disabled and destroyed a bomb in someone's head, burst a person’s heart and is noted to be able rip eyes from a head. Without much effort, he can rip off the helmet of a target without injuring the rest of his body. Xizor states Vader can stop hearts and lungs from working with the Force. He can even control the muscles of corpses to fire guns they were holding in mid combat, or force two Inquisitors to stab each other. He can also make/work on Holocrons, which requires making adjustments at the sub-atomic level, though this takes time and concentration. Being able to open a Holocron implies you are highly adept with the Force.
Vader is also capable of multi-tasking with the Force. Battlefront shows that Vader can Force choke while deflecting enemy fire and also throw his lightsaber at the same time. He can Force choke while also stopping objects being thrown at him. He’s also shown the ability to use telekinesis without hand movements, doing so while severely injured to kill Darth Momin, and using TK when pointing with his lightsaber against Luke on Cloud City. Lastly, Vader is able to use Force barriers in conjunction with other attacks, such as a push.
Cross Dimensional-Interaction
Besides being able to sense into Hyperspace (refer below in Force Senses), it is also possible he may be able to use the force in other dimensions, while still located in real space or vice versa. This is due to Luke showing the ability, being able to create sound in real space by touching R2-D2 (though he struggled with this) while his spirit was trapped in another dimension.
Force Senses
Another universal Force power was gaining heightened senses; among these was a precognitive sense that was displayed by Anakin even as an untrained child. Force sensitives can sense things such as invisible opponents and events from far away such as a large loss of life (usually known as a disturbance or wound in the Force). He can tell a ship had not yet left the star system he was in and can further enhance his sensing by connecting with his mediation sphere. He can sense an ambush awaiting and can tell when someone is lying and telling the truth. With postcognition, a Force user can learn the history of an object or a location. Force senses have additionally shown to work across dimensions, as Anakin has sensed objects between the hyper and real space (Hyperspace is stated to be another dimension many times).
Precognition
The Force can also grant its users visions of future events. Battle precognition was a variant of precognition that allowed one to sense and foretell the flows of the Force while engaged in battle. Viewing the future in this manner, however, could also be imprecise.
Vader can also view detailed events in the future with time-frames of a few seconds, called double vision. Jedi can predict movements shortly in advance with it. This can be used in the middle of combat or even to assist in flying a spaceship. He can spam the usage of double vision, having done so to evade multiple mass shadows in Hyperspace, though overdoing this might result in Vader being left exhausted. Even as a child, Anakin had “Jedi Reflexes”, the ability to see into the future, which helped him win podracing.
Force Speed
A Force ability that allows a significant increase in physical capabilities, particularly agility. It allows the user to leap further and higher than normal. It is said that a Jedi using this ability appears to be in multiple places at once, wielding as many as ten lightsabers due to the afterimages they create. Vader uses this to cross large distances in a burst.
Tutaminis
Tutaminis refers to a selection of Force abilities used for defensive options. They usually are used to absorb energy (see the gif above, for instance) and have also been used to redirect attacks. Jedi and Sith are also said to create a barrier of Force energy around them, dampening incoming Force attacks and preventing an opponent from telekinetically taking away or turning off the user's lightsaber. Lastly, while he can’t create Sith lightning due to his cybernetics, he can redirect such attacks with the technique called Kinetite, though has only done so while amped. This skill can also be used to stop physical projectiles like metal slugs and even absorb energy from a lightsaber. Tutaminis can absorb and diffuse radiation and flames.
Telepathy
Another noteworthy ability of Force sensitives is telepathy, being able to read an opponent's mind, drain their knowledge (which is how he learned of Leia being Luke’s sister), or talk with them over great distances. Vader is also seemingly able to relive an opponent’s worst memories
Mind Control
The Force grants those sensitive to it the ability to influence the minds of others. While the Jedi stick to simple mind tricks, Sith like Vader directly influence and dominate the minds of their victims or twist their thoughts. His mind control is powerful enough that he was able to eventually dominate the mind of a Toydarian, a species naturally resistant to Force suggestions. He also controlled an organic ship that was protected against mind control, and even made a hivemind throw their master into lava.
Force Barriers
Another of the many uses of the Force is the ability to create barriers to protect himself. As it sounds, it helps him block incoming attacks and many other things, one of which being submersion in lava. I guess you could say they’re forcefields.
Several other examples of usages of barriers listed here. Force barriers can even protect against re-entry heat comparable to the outer layers of a star. They also act as a natural counter to Force attacks from opponents.
Beast Control
A subset of Force mind tricks that allows domination over animals. Vader has used this ability to control an alien octopus like creature to assist him and make sea monsters fight each other.
Dun Möch
A form of combat that employs the force with the use of taunts, jeers, insults, etc. to weaken their will and distract them, most commonly used by the Sith to make enemies easier to manipulate. He used this against Starkiller in TFU2.
Force Fear
As a Sith, Vader possesses the ability to induce fear into an opponent. While normally requiring a special technique of Sith Sorcery, Vader seems to be capable of such effects with his mere presence. He’s so proficient in this field he once stunned a Force sensitive into a vegetative state, and RPG guides mention that he’s immune to the same effects. Vader can also feel the fear of others from long-distances, and can tell when it's increased. He can even feel the fear of people he can't see, and fear feeds his anger, making him stronger.
Force Scream
A Force scream is an emanation of the Force that usually manifests as either as a soundwave or to crush and implode objects in the surrounding area. It's loud enough to cause permanent hearing loss and melt metal. When used by Darth Malgus, it caused severe damage to a bridge.
Battlemind
The user can increase their morale in a fight. An RPG guide mentions Vader knows the technique.
Combustion
A technique where the user can telekinetically cause an object to explode. Vader used this to destroy a lightsaber crystal. It can even destroy parts of a body, as shown by Darth Zannah.
Detoxify Poison
As the name suggests, the technique lets Force users fight off poisons using the Force. An RPG guide mentions Vader knows the technique.
Force Stun
As the name suggests, he can hold opponents in place with the Force, and can resist such effects himself.
Force Heal
While more aligned with the Jedi, as Sith normally detest the technique due to drawing on emotions and suffering to empower them, Vader can use the Force to sustain his broken body for some time should his suit become damaged or disabled. It can even allow him to survive being buried under rubble for several days.
Force Rage
A demanding Dark Side ability that lets the user draw upon their rage to empower their physical abilities. It also seems as though focusing on rage can allow the user to survive otherwise fatal injuries, as the Grand Inquisitor was stabbed through the chest and still managed to survive via focusing on his lust for revenge. Maul survived his bisection via similar means, and Vader himself can survive impalement.
Focused Rage
Hibernation Trance
A technique Vader knows where he can slow his body's functions. A fully-trained user can stay in this state for extended time periods, ranging from a week to a month.
Feed on Dark Side
Also sometimes known as Consume Essence, Vader knows how to feed on the negative emotions of others to empower himself. This can even allow him to fight long pitched battles despite severe suit damage.
Sleep Inducement
While no proper term for this exists, Vader can put targets to sleep with the Force. This is an extension of the Jedi mind trick.
Immovability
As the name suggests, the user can use the force to root themselves in place to protect against conditions like harsh winds. Luke would later use this during the Swarm War, being described as the following: “Nothing could dislodge him; not one of Lando's asteroid tuggers, not the Megador's 16 ion engines, not the blackhole at the center of the galaxy itself.”
Sith Sorcery
While not as well-versed in the field of Sith Magic as his Master, Vader taught a Force sensitive a spell where the Force manifests as a demon to attack an opponent. The Force demon has the power to enter a target via their mouth or nose and vaporize them. He’s also used this to bind the soul of the Grand Inquistor to the realm of the living after he committed suicide, forcing him to serve him for eternity.
Sith Sorcery of this kind might not need preparation time, as described in the book of the Sith.
Force Illusions
Vader can create an illusion with the force, in one such instance tricking Luke into fighting a friend.
Force Corruption
The Dark Side corrupts the surrounding area, sometimes creating a Nexus of the Dark Side. This happened with Vader’s charred armor years after his death and on his castle on Vjun. In canon, it’s used in a process called “Bleeding” (the above image) to create Sith lightsaber crystals.
Alter Environment
A power that allows Vader to control weather specifically, he normally seems to control winds against his opponents. It can be used to call down lightning strikes or hail.
Miscellaneous Force Powers/Book of the Sith Abilities
Due to his training under Palpatine, Vader gained knowledge over several esoteric Force powers, though many are inaccessible due to his damaged body. Listed below are abilities from the Book of the Sith and the Jedi Path that Vader can access.
Inertia: An increase in momentum that can make movements unpredictable.
Blind: A surge of Force energy that momentarily blinds a target by affecting their optic nerves.
Mind Shard: A sliver of psychic pain hurled at the target’s mind.
Memory Walk: A mental link that can be used to force the opponent to relive tragic moments and cause severe shame.
Horror: Mental manipulation that raises fear within the target, until it triggers insanity.
Crucitorn: A form of mental detachment to ignore pain in the body.
Force Insanity: A Dark Side technique that uses mental energies to paralyze victims with horror and potentially drive them permanently mad.
Morichro: A technique that slows down body functions of those it is used on. This can range from causing mild catatonia to stopping one’s heart. It can be quite fatal.
Doppelganger: Creates a short-lived phantom duplicate of the user or what they are envisioning when used.
Soul Destruction: Dark Side users can use their energies to destroy spirits with enough exposure, shown by Exar Kun destroying Freedon Nadd’s spirit, and supported by other material such as the Force Unleashed’s What-If expansion. The spirit must be outside of the body for this to work. Vader’s ability to perform is questionable, as he cannot project Force lightning or energy-based attacks.
Soul Interaction: Some Jedi and Sith can interact with spirits. In canon, Luke was able to fight and wound the Spirit of the Grand Inquisitor.
Force Channeling: By connecting to a nearby Force Nexus, Vader is able to unleash the power of that Nexus. He did this on Mustafar to drown an entire army in the planet’s magma and open a door into the Force.
Sith Spirit
Vader’s soul projected in the Force, the white limbs represent the parts of him cut off from the Force. Vader’s soul takes this appearance when Vader meditates. While in mediation, we are shown his Sith spirit viewing prior memories. Luke has a similar aspect, though his spirit is light blue.
While not normally capable of manifesting, Vader’s exposure to a door to the Force allowed his spirit to leave his body and travel through a temporal portal. Vader viewed his entire life from beginning to end, even seeing future events such as his battle with Ahsoka. While separated from his body, he was capable of manifesting dark energy sabers (similar to how later on as a Force ghost, he could conjure a spectral lightsaber) and even use Force lightning to kill Palpatine within the temporal realm. After being shown he could not save Padmé, a vision (or perhaps physical presence) of Luke’s spirit banished Vader from the time portal, sending him back to his original body.
If Vader’s soul is exposed to another person’s own mental scape (considering Vader still manifests in this state within his own mindscape while meditating) or something akin to the Force, it might be possible for his spirit to manifest. His battles in the time portal can be seen as a combination of symbolic and physical (Momin showed the Time Portal has physical effects when he used to bring his body back from the past to the present).
Powers
As for abilities, this form shows the ability to use Force Powers from the Sith teachings of the Body, which are normally inaccessible to Vader due to his damaged flesh. He can also create energy sabers, as mentioned prior. The abilities listed below would be those he has knowledge of, from the Book of Sith.
Force Lightning: The deadliest weapon of the Sith, it is electricity released from the fingers that can burn the target and induces great pain. Prolonged exposure will calcify the skeleton, roast the flesh, and stop the heart. Force lightning has even been stated to siphon off life energy, though this may be just referring to it killing the target. Oddly despite not being able to normally conjure lightning for his actual body, he was able to do in-fight with Galen Marek briefly, and was shown to be able to redirect it as well.
Drain Life: Difficult to employ in combat, this ability siphons the target’s life to add to the user.
Death Field: A powerful Dark Side technique where the user creates an area around themselves where any life that enters is killed and drained of their energy, fueling both the user and the attack. Darth Bane has been shown using this technique, easily killing more than half of a group of attacking cultists.
Force Ghost
Taught to Vader by Palpatine and fallen Jedi spirits, it’s a rare power which allows the user to maintain their consciousness after death, although they cannot interfere with the physical world. Sith can also manifest as such in Legends, though power varies. Marka Ragnos kept some of his power, while Freedon Nadd was powerless.
In canon, Anakin’s Force ghost can project a spectral lightsaber to do battle and can still use the Force. This is similar to how Yoda’s Force ghost conjures lightning from the sky. Anakin was even able to return Luke’s own spirit back to his body, doing so after his essence had been sent to Exegol. The effort caused him to fade and flicker, though this may have been due to Exegol’s Dark Side pull. This skill is exclusive to a redeemed Anakin. In Legends, Luke was able to return to his body after his removed soul was freed from the dimensional prison it had been placed in by Exar Kun.
Hax Resistances/Immunities
Life Draining - During the Clone Wars, Anakin learned to draw the force into himself to resist the Dark Reaper, an Old Republic era superweapon that devoured the Force energy of living beings and could kill anyone who approached it. While Vader hasn’t shown to use it, nothing implies he lost the ability to do so.
Mind Control/Telepathy - Shrugged off a mental attack from someone who could force victims into suicide, other Sith Lords have brushed off attempts at mental domination, and Thought Shield is a basic skill taught to Jedi as younglings.
Madness Inducement - RPG guides mention that he’s immune to these effects; staring into Hyperspace supposedly causes madness over long periods of time, and Vader enjoys staring into Hyperspace
Stuns - Can resist such effects
Poisons - Knows the power Detoxify Poison, and his mask filters harmful atmospheric effects and poisons
Telekinesis - Padawans are stated to be taught how to counter Force kinesis before they begin lightsaber training
External Corruption - Strong Jedi are capable of resisting the pull of the Dark Side, while Dark Side users are already corrupted by it
Possibly has resistances to other Force abilities to a certain extent
Obito
Skill/Experience
Obito started his ninja training as a young boy, graduating from Konoha’s ninja academy when he was 9 years old. While his skills were average as a Genin, they improved enough for him to become a Chunin at age 11 thanks to training. Despite never being granted the rank of Jonin, Obito did participate in the Third Shinobi World War. Under the tutelage of Madara Uchiha after being rescued by him, Obito’s abilities vastly improved to the point that many characters actually believed he was the actual Madara himself. After Madara’s first death, Obito helped execute his master’s Infinite Tsukuyomi plan by manipulating the Akatsuki into capturing the nine Tailed Beasts and personally starting the Fourth Shinobi World War.
He helped Itachi slaughter the Uchiha Clan, killing members of the Uchiha Police Force. His genjutsu is strong enough to take control of the Nine-Tailed Fox Kurama, similar to how Madara once controlled the beast, as well as the Fourth Mizukage. In his base, Obito was able to fight on par with the Fourth Hokage Minato and the Akatsuki member Konan, though he didn’t leave both fights unscathed. After taking Nagato’s Rinnegan, he fought Might Guy, Kakashi, and Naruto in his Kurama Chakra Mode all at once. Once he became Jinchūriki of the Ten-Tails, Obito was skilled enough to overwhelm a stronger Naruto and Sasuke as well as the first three Hokage.
Chakra
Brought to Earth by the celestial Ōtsutsuki clan, chakra is supposed to be a spiritual energy that brings peace and harmony through non-verbal understandings of one another, but of course, people connected it to their physical energies and weaponized it. This life energy can be molded into various types of jutsu, the mystical techniques often used by shinobi.
Chakra is life energy used by ninja to perform their jutsu. It is divided into two halves: the body energy that resides in an individual’s cells, and the spiritual energy that comes from their experience and training. Combining the two of these energies is what creates chakra, and it is through the use of a series of hand seals that chakra is converted and released as jutsu. How the seals are performed doesn’t particularly matter either, as they can be performed with just one hand or even using someone else’s. Individual people have different amounts of chakra, based on factors such as lineage, body limitations, and so on, but chakra reserves do not amount to much if they are not properly controlled.
There’s a few basic abilities that ninjas can use through precise chakra. By gathering chakra in the bottom of one’s feet, an individual can climb vertical surfaces without their hands and even stand upside down, and even stand on water. It is difficult to move ninja once they have chakra gathered in their feet as well, shown via Tsunade resisting Nagato’s Deva Path in this manner. That being said, the technique doesn’t just apply to surfaces, and can also be used to catch and throw objects, as demonstrated by Sasuke who caught a kunai.
Chakra used for Ninjutsu should also scale to physicality most of the time, as it directly impacts physicality. Chakra and the soul also have a deep connection (this is backed up by Tayuya's technique, Revolt of the Demon World).
Obito’s chakra reserves in particular are plentiful, and he has the proficiency to absorb and transfer chakra from and into others.
Ninjutsu
In the Ninja World, shinobi are capable of controlling the elements and perform ninja techniques based off of them. This is known as nature transformation, which is an advanced form of chakra control that involves molding and refining the nature of a shinobi’s chakra, altering its properties and characteristics to be used in Ninjutsu. It’s a necessary component when it comes to creating and modifying a technique, with the other component being shape transformation. Nature transformation changes the properties of chakra, and shape transformation changes the actual form and movement which alters its abilities. There are five basic chakra natures that shinobi are born with: fire, wind, lightning, earth, and water. Just like a game of Rock-Paper-Scissors or Pokémon, each chakra nature has an advantage over the other. Fire beats wind. Wind beats lightning. Lightning beats earth. Earth beats water. Water beats fire.
As a member of the Uchiha Clan, Obito generally prefers using fire style jutsu, though he’s also efficient with other elemental jutsu.
There are two final nature transformations that are the source of all non-elemental techniques: Yin & Yang. Yin is based on the imagination and spiritual energy of a shinobi while Yang is based on the vitality and physical energy of a shinobi.
Fire Release
One of the five basic nature transformations. Fire Release is primarily focused on offensive techniques, typically performed by kneading chakra in the body into flames that the user breathes from the mouth. As a member of the Uchiha Clan, Obito has a natural affinity towards it.
Fire Release: Blast Wave Wild Dance: A technique that combines the might of Fire Release and the Sharingan, in which Obito releases his flames in a stream, which can then be turned into a spiral, trapping opponents in a vortex without any room to escape.
Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique: One of the signature techniques of the Uchiha to the point where learning it is needed for one to be considered an adult. Obito kneads chakra into his body and fires it out as a continuous flamethrower, although the move has been performed as a sphere-like projectile as well. It is powerful enough to crater the ground and vaporize its surroundings.
Fire Release: Phoenix Sage Fire Technique: Obito spits a volley of small fireballs into the air, which he can then control individually with his chakra to make it harder for opponents to avoid. It can also be used while hiding shuriken inside the flames, increasing its deadliness.
Uchiha Flame Formation: Obito creates a large barrier of flames that burn whoever touches it with heat intense enough to wound Tailed Beasts. The barrier is maintained with minimal chakra usage.
Earth Release
During his time as the masked man Tobi, Obito demonstrated a few Earth Release abilities, mostly using them to alter the battlefield from underground in order to gain an advantage.
Earth Release: Hiding Like A Mole Technique: A technique that alters earth into fine sand by channeling chakra into it, allowing Obito to dig through it like a mole. Typically used to plant explosives or simply to hide.
Whac-A-Mole Technique: Obito attacks multiple targets in rapid succession by digging through the ground and wacking them with a stick (Ironically, the mole is the one doing the wacking here…)
Wood Release
After Madara replaced his lost limbs with material derived from Hashirama’s DNA, Obito became capable of using Wood Release, an incredibly rare combination of Water and Earth Release capable of converting chakra into a source of life.
Wood Release: Cutting Technique: A technique that Obito can use to form wooden spikes from his body, either using them as short-range weapons or throwing them as projectiles, increasing the growth of the branches remotely to skewer enemies.
Wood Release: Great Spear Tree: Obito brings up several thick roots from the ground, crushing his opponents in the process.
Wood Release: Underground Roots Technique: Obito manipulates the terrain and brings out several underground roots that can be used in several ways, but Obito primarily uses the technique to bring massive roots that tangle around an area and crush anyone caught in the way.
Wood Release: Wood Dragon Technique: Obito creates a wooden dragon, capable of both attacking opponents head on or restraining them. In addition, it can drain the chakra of an opponent, even from a Tailed Beast like Kurama. Obito mainly uses this as part of the Ten-Tails’ “combat form”.
Genjutsu
By manipulating the enemy’s Chakra flow, Obito can directly affect the opponent's five senses. Once he’s taken control, he makes his opponent suffer multiple illusions or false images in order to trick the opponent that they’re currently suffering physical pain. Since genjutsu affects activity throughout the forebrain structure of the brain, all mammals (at least with their own flow of chakra) are susceptible to genjutsu.
Taijutsu
Taijutsu refers to any technique involving martial arts or simply hand-to-hand combat. Users of taijutsu rely on their stamina and strength gained from training instead of typically relying on chakra, though chakra can be used to enhance taijutsu techniques or physical prowess. No hand seals are required, making taijutsu quicker to perform than ninjutsu and genjutsu. Obito is shown to be pretty proficient in taijutsu as he’s shown to be on par with Kakashi during their battle in the Kamui dimension, controlling the outcome of the fight.
Standard Jutsu
All-around basic techniques taught to Genin, Obito learned these at a young age and can use them at any time with the proper hand sign.
Transformation Technique
The Transformation Technique is typically used for infiltration and reconnaissance, but it also makes an effective tool in combat to disorient and trick enemies when fighting in groups.
Body Replacement Technique
With the Body Replacement Technique, the user is struck by an attack and then quickly replaces themselves with something else, such as a block of wood or another person. This leaves their attacker confused for a moment, and allows the user to counterattack while their position is still unknown.
Clone Technique
Temporary Paralysis Technique
Hashirama Cells
In order to save Obito’s life after having the right side of his body crushed by a boulder, Madara implanted him with Hashirama Senju’s tissue. Obito had now gained Hashirama’s Cells, which granted numerous benefits for him. Obito can regenerate from wounds, and utilize the Senju Clan’s signature technique, Wood Release. Obito was also able to strengthen the efficiency and duration of his Izanagi technique, as he had now contained chakra from the descendants of both Indra and Asura Ōtsutsuki.
Dojutsu
Literally meaning “Eye Techniques”, dojutsu techniques heavily utilize, well, eyes. Users of dojutsu employ their eyes for special attacks like jutsus. Dojutsu’s chakra drainage varies, but it is known that users can, in a way, exhaust their eyes, though their physical performance as a whole may be unaffected. The Sharingan, the Rinnegan, and the Byakugan are known as the main three dojutsu, or the Three Great Dojutsu. There are various others as well, but they aren’t important.
Sharingan
The signature technique of the Uchiha clan, the Sharingan is a dojutsu Kekkei Genkai passed down to the descendants of Indra Ōtsutsuki. Obito awakened it after feeling a great desire to protect his allies. The Sharingan grants the user heightened perception, the ability to see chakra, predict one’s course of actions by analyzing their muscle movements and respond accordingly, copy techniques, and even see through illusions, such as Itachi’s Tsukuyomi. It can even perceive invisible individuals and entities. The Sharingan also allows its user to focus their vision and act like a microscope, allowing it to see objects on a cellular level and clearly perceive viruses. In general, the Sharingan acts as a counter to other genjutsu. However, it cannot see through obstructions like thick mist.
The Sharingan is awakened and evolved through the user's negative emotions, such as hate, grief, or disappointment. The deeper the hatred or pain, the more powerful the Sharingan becomes.
Obito is able to copy almost any Jutsu he sees, memorizing ninjutsu, genjutsu, and taijutsu with near-perfect accuracy. The Sharingan also allows him to control the mind of the target it's used on, such as when Sasuke controlled Manda against his will. It can even overcome the mental destruction induced by Orochimaru’s Soul Transfer Ritual, eroding the mental universe it occurs inside of in the process.
Genjutsu: Sharingan
This refers to a variety of illusionary techniques Sharingan users can utilize rather than a specific ability. By establishing eye contact with the target, Obito can trap them within a genjutsu. He's done this many times, the most notable of which was when he secretly controlled the actions of the Fourth Mizukage, Yagura, despite him being a perfect Jinchūriki, who are normally able to break out of genjutsu. He also controlled Kurama, the Nine-Tails, with his genjutsu. Lastly, he’s placed Konan under a genjutsu that forced her to reveal information about where Nagato’s body was located.
This technique allows its user to look through others' memories and to relay their own memories, and even to project themselves into a target's inner consciousness with a mere gaze.
Izanagi
A forbidden Jutsu derived from the Sage of Six Paths’ Creation of All Things and utilized by the Uchiha in ancient times, the Izanagi is a genjutsu cast upon the user that allows them to blur the line between fantasy and reality. Once in effect, any negative events that befall the user, be it damage or even their own deaths, can be rewritten as an illusion, and the user materializes as if nothing ever happened, essentially allowing them to rewrite any negative events and ultimately bring them to their most desired end result.
However, using it comes at a severe cost. The Izanagi only lasts up to a limited amount of time, and after it runs out, the eye that was used to cast it loses its light and becomes permanently blind. Due to possessing Senju DNA from the arm crafted from Hashirama’s cells, Obito is able to maintain Izanagi for a longer period of time for at least 5 minutes, proven when he used it to outlast Konan’s 600 billion paper bombs. This attack was designed to explode for 10 minutes, to outlast the effects of Obito’s Kamui, which allows him to become intangible continuously for up to 5 minutes. Obito was able to counter it via using Izanagi to survive the remaining 5 minutes.
Izanagi also cannot undo damage done prior to its activation, as it could not restore Obito’s missing arm even after the jutsu had finished. Madara’s activation also did not close his heart wound, though that may have been on purpose.
Mangekyo Sharingan
The evolution of the Sharingan, only granted when the user experiences trauma by witnessing the loss of a loved one. Obito unlocked it when he saw Kakashi stab through Rin, the woman he loved, with a Chidori, killing her. The Mangekyo Sharingan retains all of the Sharingan’s original abilities, and adds new ones, specifically a unique ability that differs between different Uchiha clan members. All of the abilities given by the Sharingan are enhanced with the Mangekyo, most notably genjutsu, which doesn’t require the presence of a chakra flow in the target when induced by a Mangekyo,
The Mangekyo Sharingan has one vital weakness however; it can cause a strain on the user with over-usage, eventually disabling the use of the Sharingan altogether and leaving them with permanent blindness. Obito himself doesn't seem to have this issue, which may have to do with his Hashirama cells.
Kamui
Obito’s unique Mangekyo Sharingan ability, Kamui, allows him to transfer objects to and from a pocket dimension via a wormhole from the person’s eye. Two primary versions of Kamui exist, with Obito’s version being the short-ranged right eye Kamui. With it, Obito can appear to phase through attacks by entering his body into the Kamui dimension, teleport by entering the dimension and exiting at any point, bring others into the dimension and leaving them stranded (or fight them from within it), and utilize weapons by teleporting them out of the dimension, such as giant shuriken. He can make objects he touches intangible as well. Parts of Obito’s body that would be touched or damaged in some manner are automatically transferred into the Kamui dimension (here for more info). He can even “phase” underground and pop back up for a surprise attack. It even works unconsciously, saving Obito from Itachi’s Amaterasu that was sealed within Sasuke’s eyes.
Kamui does have a few downsides though. Obito can only use Kamui for five minutes consecutively, and while it’s active, Obito can’t physically interact with or attack other people. If an attack or someone enters his dimension relative to where he is in the real world, they can hit him when he becomes intangible. It also takes longer for Obito to transfer himself into the Kamui dimension fully then it would take others, and the speed of the transfer is slower than his own reactions. His body is also tangible when he does this. There is a brief window of Obito being tangible when he attacks as well.
Limited Tsukuyomi
A “prototype” of the Infinite Tsukuyomi tested by Obito in preparation for the real deal. The technique uses the chakra of seven of the Tailed Beasts trapped within the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path to create a “genjutsu world” within a crystal orb. Individuals can then be sent into the fake world, which will conform to their inner desires. In order to leave, the trapped targets must destroy the crystal orb used.
The Limited Tsukuyomi has a degree of set up time, as Obito had to observe Naruto for a period of time to learn his inner desires to set up the genjutsu world. Beings in this world are seemingly physical (shown with the genjutsu world Sakura manifesting in the real world) and techniques meant to dispel genjutsu will not affect the realm. Obito cannot directly control the genjutsu world, but can enter to possess individuals created by the technique to battle the trapped targets.
Rinnegan
By implanting Nagato’s Rinnegan into his left eye socket after his death, Obito was able to utilize the Six Paths Technique, abilities manifested and spread throughout seven (yes, seven, not six) different paths. While Obito has only been shown using the Outer Path techniques, he should reasonably be able to use the other Paths as well, as the only reason he wasn’t able to was due to the strain put on him from controlling the six reincarnated Jinchūriki.
Although the Rinnegan has the same abilities, sometimes even better versions, of previous Sharingan techniques, it also grants plenty of new tools. With it, Obito can see the chakra flow of an opponent, invisible barriers, and master all ninjutsu abilities. The Rinnegan is implied to be able to counter genjutsu cast by the same eye and grant Obito the ability to perceive events in stopped time. The Rinnegan can also see Madara’s invisible Limbo shadows, which exist in another dimension.
Deva Path
The Deva Path allows the user to control attractive and repulsive forces, effectively giving them a limited form of gravity manipulation. It grants the user levitation and a variety of other techniques, but has a recharge interval of five seconds before the user can perform another technique, which increases the more power is put into the attack.
Shinra Tensei: Obito can create a repulsive field around him, pushing everything in the surrounding vicinity away from him. When charged, this technique is powerful enough to destroy the Hidden Leaf Village.
Bansho Ten’in: Obito can create an attractive force to pull a target towards him. This can be used on a single person, or multiple people at once, making them collide into each other. It can also be used to launch objects at the opponent.
Chibaku Tensei: Obito can create a black sphere and launch it into the sky, which proceeds to create an attractive force that pulls in pieces of the land, debris, and any other objects towards it. These are trapped within a satellite, which can then be blown up or kept as a means of capturing the opponent.
Preta Path
The Preta Path grants the user the ability to absorb, and thus nullify any form of ninjutsu. The user can presumably absorb attacks even if they’re from stronger foes, as Nagato’s Preta Path was able to absorb attacks from Sage Mode Naruto, who was far superior to him. This is supported by the ability being described as sending the attacks into a “bottomless swamp”
Asura Path
The Asura Path allows the user to alter their body to form mechanized armor and various ballistic and mechanical weaponry. This includes growing up to two additional faces and four additional arms along with a spiked metal tail. These extra limbs contain a variety of weapons that the user can access. Examples include firing their hands like a projectile and possessing multiple missiles within the limbs. The spiked tail are among the many blades and drills that the user can protrude as a series of tendrils. Lastly, the user can fire a blast of chakra from their head and be capable of flight.
Human Path
Animal Path
The Animal Path allows the user to summon various creatures to aid in battle. These are creatures that have been killed, brought back into the fold as reanimated beings. Due to these creatures having chakra receivers as piercings, the Rinnegan is reflected in their eyes. In other words, the user can see through the eyes of their summons. In addition, if these creatures are killed in battle, summoning them again will bring them back to life. The Animal Path also allows the user to summon the other Six Paths of Pain and anyone else who’s wearing the chakra receivers as piercings. Lastly, Obito himself can summon the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path.
Such zombie beasts include:
Giant Drill-Beaked Bird: A large bird that can fly at incredible speed and can combine its velocity with its beak to form powerful diving attacks. In the anime, the bird can lay a quantity of eggs that can explode like bombs and produce dust clouds strewn with lightning.
Giant Multi-Headed Dog: A giant dog with multiple heads modified with the Amplification Summoning Technique, granting the creature with numerous abilities. The dog gains a new head every time it’s struck and can split apart into multiple dogs. The dog also has wings for flight and possesses a healing factor as it once regenerated its foot after it got cut off.
Giant Snake-Tailed Chameleon: A giant chameleon with a snake for a tail and is capable of turning invisible to blend with its surroundings. Just like a regular chameleon, this creature is also capable of crawling on walls. Lastly, the chameleon can grab and capture an opponent with its snake tail and tongue.
Giant Panda: A giant panda with the ability to harden its body like stone to serve as a defensive barrier for its summon.
Giant Ox: A giant ox possessing immense brute strength.
Giant Rhino: A giant rhinoceros possessing immense brute strength.
Giant Crustacean: A giant crab capable of performing water release jutsus and possesses a very durable shell.
Water Release: Wild Bubble Wave: The crustacean spits out a large volume of foam-like bubbles, covering the ground and reducing its friction to limit an opponent’s movements. The bubbles are released at a violent force to wash away large quantities of fire and oil. It also serves as an effective smokescreen.
Giant Centipede: A giant centipede strong enough to use its body as a battering ram.
Naraka Path
The Naraka Path is considered the most valuable path since it allows the user to summon the King of Hell, a giant head sprouted from the ground in purple flames, for two special abilities: interrogation and restoration. The King of Hell also possesses the Rinnegan, allowing the user to see from his eyes as well.
Interrogation involves a Rinnegan user interrogating their victim, and the King of Hell passing judgment depending on the answer. If the victim is lying or refusing to answer, then the King of Hell will rip out their soul by releasing arm-like tendrils from its mouth and using them to grab a victim’s life force by enlarging their tongues and consuming the soul right after. However, if the victim is truthful, they will be spared but left completely exhausted.
Restoration involves having the King of Hell repair any damage done to the body. The King of Hell will drag the damaged body into its mouth with its tendrils and ingest it. After some time, the body will emerge, completely repaired and rejuvenated.
Outer Path
The Outer Path is the seventh ability of the Six Paths, allowing the user power over life and death. The user can create black receivers to transmit their chakra, restraining opponents if pierced into their bodies by affecting their chakra and movement. By implanting these receivers into six corpses, the user can reanimate and control the bodies remotely as their Six Paths of Pain. Obito’s Six Paths of Pain are six Jinchūriki that the Akatsuki have killed in their crusade. Each should be capable of performing one of the Rinnegan’s abilities, but Obito chose for them not to, as doing so would divide his chakra. These reanimated bodies all have reflections of the Rinnegan in their eyes, sharing visual information with the user through the Outer Path.
Demonic Statue Chains: Obito can manifest chakra chains from his chakra receives capable of binding anyone they touch at a power stronger than Nagato’s Outer Path ability. These chakra chains contain a cursed seal powerful enough to suppress the power of the Tailed Beasts and cause great pain to trapped victims. Obito used these chains to suppress the Tailed Beasts within his reanimated Jinchūriki to keep them from resisting his control, even binding them within their own consciousness. When the chakra receivers were removed, the chakra chains were replaced by a single large chain connected to the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path, allowing Obito to quickly reseal them into the statue.
Outer Path: Samsara of Heavenly Life Technique: A reincarnation technique that the user can use with the Outer Path. When this technique is used, the King of Hell emerges from the ground and releases the souls of the deceased from its mouth. However, infusing these souls into their rejuvenated bodies comes at the cost of the user. Nagato died after using this technique to revive the citizens of Konoha he killed as Pain, and Obito was forced to use this technique by Black Zetsu to revive Madara.
Summoning Jutsu
Demonic Statue of the Outer Path
The husk that remained of the Ten-Tails after its Chakra and body were separated, and that can only be summoned by one who possesses the Rinnegan. Instead of the usual blood offering made for Summoning Techniques, the Demonic Statue instead drains the summoner’s life force when not being fueled by Tailed Beasts. However, Obito is capable of performing the summon without that issue. The Statue has enough physical might to clash with members of the Akimichi Clan using the Super Multi-Size Technique, as well as being capable of emitting phantom dragons capable of absorbing chakra and summoning chakra chains that could contain even the Tailed Beasts.
The Ten-Tails
Believed to be the progenitor of all that exists in the world, the Ten-Tails is the original Tailed Beast, whose power had been sealed away and divided by the original Sage of Six Paths. Once Obito obtained the combined chakra of all the other Beasts, he freed the Ten-Tails from its seal, commanding it in battle against the Allied Shinobi Forces. The power of the Ten-Tails is tremendous, being able to casually deflect Tailed Beast Balls from Gyūki with a single finger and being able to cause natural disasters spanning entire continents with its roar. It is even capable of producing innumerable smaller replicas of itself from its main body, which all fight with the singular goal of protecting the Ten-Tails at all costs. In its final form, the God Tree, its roots can be used to capture enemies and quickly drain their chakra, turning humans into desiccated corpses in a matter of seconds.
Obito can directly control it via a tube that connects to the back of his neck.
Ten Tails Jinchūriki
By sealing the entirety of the Ten-Tails inside his body, Obito can become its Jinchūriki, the host of its power. At first, Obito was unable to fully control this power, his mind being shattered to the point where he could barely recognize his own name. But even though the beast nearly tore him apart, Obito managed to tame it completely. In this state, Obito is far more powerful, with even Hashirama Senju, the God of Shinobi, declaring that Obito was stronger than him. He is also impervious to most forms of damage, possessing an incredibly powerful healing factor, strong enough to restore half his body in seconds, and being capable of using Yin-Yang Release, which grants him access to the Truth-Seeking Orbs (see above). He also gains some degree of enlightenment, similar to Naruto when he gains access to the Sage’s power.
In this state, he can fly and produce chakra arms that can extend hundreds of meters from his back. Tailed Beast chakra arms have been shown to be able to grab souls before. He can also manifest the Ten-Tails as a tree extending several kilometers. The tree can absorb chakra at alarmingly fast rates and can attack Obito’s opponents with its roots. The roots can also reshape themselves into a dragonic state for more offense. He can also use black receivers made from Truth-Seeking Orbs to create a barrier spanning several kilometers. Lastly, he can create trees that can launch up to four Tailed Beast Bombs.
However, the form has a few notable drawbacks. While he can nullify any ninjutsu related attack, he’s still vulnerable to senjutsu (natural energy) and taijutsu. Additionally, this state cannot be used in conjunction with Kamui.
Six Paths Chakra
A rare and powerful type of chakra given to Obito after sealing the Ten-Tails inside himself. Six Paths Chakra greatly enhances Obito’s chakra capabilities and all of his physical stats, and he can use it to amplify the power of his jutsu. Sufficient damage to Obito’s body has shown the potential of causing this chakra to “leak” from him and touching it will result in connecting with Obito’s inner mental world. Gaining this chakra allowed Obito’s soul to remain in the world of living after death and possess Kakashi, granting him Obito’s dual Mangekyo Sharingan eyes.
Yin-Yang Release
With the power of the Ten-Tails, Obito can combine Yin Release and Yang Release to obtain Yin-Yang Release. This power can be used to nullify ninjutsu, but is mainly used in order to access a unique, new
ability:
Truth-Seeking Balls
With Six Paths Chakra, Obito can form orbs of malleable chakra with a range of 70 meters, which can erase matter on contact, nullify ninjutsu, destroy things on a near-atomic level, and even erase space-time itself. Striking an opponent with these almost guarantees their demise. They can even be shaped into various different forms if Obito desires them to, including shields, black receivers, chakra arms, and the Sword of Nunoboko, said to have been used by the Sage of Six Paths to create the world (not literally). The strength of the sword depends on Obito’s willpower and resolve. Just striking with it can create a massive area of energy.
Another notable effect of exposure to an orb is the destruction of the soul of the target. Minato had both his arms destroyed by these orbs, by Obito and Madara, and his soul is later shown to be missing the affected arms. While the orbs do indeed nullify ninjutsu, this would not explain Minato’s soul missing his arms, as pieces of the soul are not separately binded to an Edo body, but rather uniformly.
Storm 4 shows how interchanging they can be, shaping into needles, to ramming tendrils, and even to large exploding orbs. Truth Seeking Scorch fires an energy beam from an orb and the Sword of Nunoboko can fire energy slashs. Six Paths Cross Lantern lights the orbs on fire to burn the enemy. Orbs can grow to encompass hundreds of meters. He can also cover himself in the orbs entirely as a barrier.
Obito can also create large arms made from the orbs, which can be shaped into a scythe (for a boomerang like attack as well) or even a massive drill (which can send out shockwaves). They can be used to perform underground attacks, or fire out large orbs (or as a giant ball nuke) and even a large charge beam. Should they be damaged, Obito can use chakra to restore them.
This, combined with their superb agility, makes them excellent tools for both offense and defense, even capable of easily dispelling Sasuke’s Amaterasu, which can burn through fireproof substances and is said to be hotter than the sun.
Truth-Seeking Orbs cannot nullify or even erase senjutsu/natural energy techniques. They can, however, still harm a body using Sage Mode, given Madara cut Sage Mode Minato's arm off.
Even after losing the Ten-Tails, Obito displayed the ability to manifest a staff made from the orbs. With it he was able to deflect other Truth-Seeking Orbs from Madara and clash with his foe’s own staff.
Tailed Beast Bomb
The trademark attack of all the Tailed Beasts, the Tailed Beast Bomb has the Ten-Tails condense chakra into its mouth and then fire it for incredible destructive force, with a massive range that can let the attack fly hundreds of miles away. Despite its name, it can take more forms than just a ball, as the Ten-Tails has fired it as a beam so powerful that it completely destroyed the Eight-Tails and Nine-Tails own Tailed Beast Bombs, and then another that destroyed entire mountains and left massive destruction in its wake. Obito can fire his variation from trees he creates as the Ten-Tails Jinchūriki.
Infinite Tsukuyomi
Via the God Tree, Obito can cast a nerfed version of Madara’s Infinite Tsukuyomi. After he grows the God Tree, it takes about 15 minutes to cast as the flower has to bloom due to Obito’s lack of a Rinne-Sharingan. When it is cast, however, it reflects light off the Moon and onto the planet, trapping the world in an endless dream. Anyone under the Infinite Tsukuyomi’s control is rendered immobile and suffer an entire dream reality, where their deepest desires are fulfilled within it. Alongside that, the target is rendered immobile, and can easily be attacked while under it or wrapped under the bark from the roots of the God Tree. However, it’s possible to resist the effects of the Infinite Tsukuyomi. Other Rinnegan users can be protected from the light of the Infinite Tsukuyomi, and those considered dead aren’t affected by it.
Hax Resistances/Immunities
-Power Null, Atomic Destruction, Space-Time Manip, Potentially Existence Erasure - Users of Six Paths chakra are unaffected by the effects of the Truth-Seeking Orbs, shown by Naruto kicking one away
-Mind Hax /Possession - Withstood the Ten-Tails’ power tearing his consciousness apart, and eventually overpowered it with his sheer will and gained control of its power. The Rinnegan can create several mental blocks and genjutsu traps against invading minds. Beat out Ino’s attempt to control his mind. Shinobi are also trained to be able to break genjutsu with release seals. Sharingan and its evolutions repel visual genjutsu. The base Sharingan can even allow users such as Sasuke to overpower Orochimaru’s mental universe, which normally destroys the minds of those who enter. Sasuke was even able to resist a weakened Tsukuyomi before he received his MS, and Obito has superior resistance. Jinchūriki are capable of resisting the binding effects and control of the Rinnegan's black receivers to an extent. Lastly, Obito was also able to fight off Black Zetsu’s control over his body for a time, only losing control when near death initially and from Madara’s interference.
-Fear Manipulation/Inducement - Strong enough characters can release auras that induce severe fear to those near it. It can cause thoughts of suicide, and potent aura can even damage the environment. Characters like Orochimaru have shown it is possible to resist such aura, and Sharingan users are immune to Kurama’s own aura. Kurama’s aura is all consuming hatred.
-Extreme Heat - Unaffected by the heat of Amaterasu
-Sealing - Broke out of Hashirama’s seal, which affected the Ten-Tails
-Poison - He can absorb Kurama's chakra, which acts like a poison, without suffering any ill effects. The chakra he absorbed was not transformed directly by Naruto in order to be compatible with him, so it should retain its harmful qualities.
-Freezing - Scales to Kakashi, who can prevent being frozen by using chakra
-Sleep Inducement - Jonin-level shinobi can break out of sleeping jutsu
-Transmutation - Merged with Zetsu who possesses Hashirama's cells. Hashirama cells turn hosts into trees if the body cannot handle them. Even when near death and low on Chakra, Obito has never been changed.

Even as a Padawan, could move starships fast enough to intercept missiles (2.513 megatons of TNT)
Fought Kenobi, who could match Grievous in combat. Grievous has broken Electro Staffs made out of the metal Phrik. A holocron encased in the same metal survived the destruction of Alderaan (3.3 megatons - 10.16 teratons of TNT)
Can match Starkiller in combat. Vader even held back fighting the clone. Overpowered Starkiller with one arm, with Galen needing to distract Vader to fully escape. Starkiller (clone as well) has:
Moved Star Destroyers (33.25 Kilotons of TNT - 13.6 Megatons of TNT)
Beat Rahm Kota, who brought down a command center of a TIE Factory into a planet's gravity well
Blasted large sections out of a Nemoidian suspension bridge (42.7 megatons - 36.11 gigatons of TNT)

While barely alive from poison, Darth Bane’s dark power was stated to be “like nothing [Darth Cognus] had seen or felt before”, despite witnessing the Devastation of Ambria not long prior. This event destroyed the landscape of the small planet Ambria and was the most powerful use of the Dark Side by that point
Note: Some of us disagree with this feat, as Bane was still injured by the same source of power
Frequently stated to be the strongest Jedi of his generation, and immensely more powerful than Jedi Council members during the Clone Wars. Yarael Poof, a deceased member, stopped a bomb that was going to destroy Coruscant (47.37 - 82.42 zettatons of TNT) (More in Q&A)
Weaker than, but still somewhat comparable to Emperor Palpatine
Palpatine can lift the Super Star Destroyer Lusankya (350.22 Kilotons)

Much faster than Aurra Sing, who is faster than most droids can perceive
Can evenly fight with Obi-Wan, who could react in a nanosecond as a padawan
Superior to Luke Skywalker in their fights. An inexperienced Luke could tangle with and even see hits in slow motion from Guri, a droid assassin whose model of brain can process data in 6.1 picoseconds (28.4c)
Guri’s processor was modified purely for speed, giving her hyper reflexes. She has multiple examples of blitzing characters with her speed.
Luke gets faster by time of ROTJ, having honed his reflexes. Vader can still keep up while conflicted.
Even before ROTJ, Luke could react to dozens of lasers at once
Anakin was cited as the fastest Jedi of the Clone Wars, making him superior to Master Judd, who can intercept blaster bolts at close range (4.558 - 26.438c)

No sold a blast from Starkiller’s clone that vaporized dozens of Stormtroopers
Scales to Starkiller, who’s Force barriers survived an “impact that can crack a moon in two” (The description might a bit exaggerated considering the same novel claims the Gorog was planet-sized)
It took the full power of ROTJ Sidious’ Force Lightning to finally kill Vader, and only after Vader’s life support had already been damaged by Luke who had been amplified by rage

The Demonic Statue of the Outer Path stopped two massive rock formations with one arm each, and destroyed hundreds of meters of rock
As the Ten-Tails Jinchūriki, is stated to be more powerful than the Ten-Tails (without the full chakra from Kurama and Gyūki) on its own, due to being able to focus its power. The Ten-Tails:

Raised the massive God Tree out of the ground (46.523 petatons of TNT)
Destroyed Hashirama’s Gracious Deity Gates which had previously held down and suppressed the Ten-Tails
Used chakra arms to tear down the Hokage’s Four Red Yang Formation which had previously withstood a giant Tailed Beast Bomb from the Ten-Tails
Created giant arms from Truth-Seeking Orbs that restrained Naruto’s Kurama Mode and Sasuke’s Susanoo then slammed them down to the ground
Comparable to Naruto, whose chakra in base form was strong enough to blow a hole through the Moon (18.22 zettatons of TNT)
Comparable to Toneri, as Naruto beat Toneri with Kurama Chakra Mode and could not do so with Obito, requiring Sasuke’s help. Also stated to have achieved power rivaling the Sage of Six Paths (chakra in another translation). Toneri is capable of:
After having the Ten-Tails extracted:
Speed
Much faster than Temari, who can react to sound (Mach 24.26)
KCM1 Naruto outran the A, the Fourth Raikage's fastest punch. A’s lariat moves at light-speed. (Read here)

Dodged Gaara’s sand, which was fast enough to save Sasuke at point-blank range from A (23.07c)
Blocked a hit from Tsunade while she was wrapped in the Heavenly Transport technique, which lets her travel at the speed of light
As the Ten-Tails Jinchūriki:
Moved fast enough that Hiruzen was unable to evade his attacks
Placed a Truth-Seeking Orb on Minato before he could teleport away
Dodged attacks from Naruto’s Kurama Mode and Sasuke’s Susanoo
After having the Ten-Tails extracted:
Durability
Was somehow still alive after a boulder crushed half of his body when he was a young boy
Survived getting hit by a Rasengan from Minato
Survived paper bombs from Konan
Survived getting headbutted by KCM2 Naruto
Survived a punch from Naruto that created a large crater (Storm 3)
Briefly survived even with his heart destroyed
Endured the pain from hosting the Ten-Tails, which made him feel as though his body was being ripped apart limb from limb
Comparable to Kakashi, who tanked hits from Version 2 Jinchūriki
As Ten-Tails Jinchūriki:
Withstood and nullified a Rasenshuriken combined with the flames of Amaterasu
Received no damage from Tobirama’s explosive tags
Created a barrier that withstood the combined explosions of four giant Tailed Beast Bombs
With Truth-Seeking Orbs, created a shield that held up against a giant Rasengan from Naruto and Minato in their Kurama Modes while they were utilizing senjutsu chakra
Was still able to move despite having the Ten-Tails extracted from his body, which should’ve left his body paralyzed for several months
Weaknesses
Darth Vader
Despite his almost unrivaled connection to the Force, Vader is far from his maximum potential due to the loss of most of his body. And even though his armor is very durable, it’s still a life support apparatus at its most basic. It’s susceptible to electrical surges or otherwise disabling it. If it’s destroyed, it’s only a matter of time until Vader goes with it. While he can delay this for a time with the force, doing this can take his focus off of other force abilities and make him weaker. This applies to his other cybernetic limbs as well, as if they’re disabled, he’ll have to focus on moving his body himself, which also takes away from his force power. Should Vader be confused or conflicted, his power will weaken as it does for all Force users.
Force precognition is not perfect. Things like seeing the future are imprecise, typically require concentration and/or meditation, and are not passive things that (most) Jedi/Sith do at all times. Vader’s double vision is far more direct, but overuse will tire him out eventually.
Obito
Despite being one of the most formidable foes of his world, Obito shares many of the same limits that other shinobi have. His chakra reserves, while fairly large, are not infinite, and continual uses of jutsu will slowly deplete them. His Sharingan can be deactivated should he be blinded, and a few of his more powerful techniques, such as Kamui and Izanagi have time limits. Some of his genjutsu techniques also require eye contact. Obito can be physically interacted with when he moves in to attack, as Kamui will not work in that moment.
In his Ten-Tails Jinchūriki state, while he’s impervious to ninjutsu, senjutsu and taijutsu technically can still harm him, and he can’t use Kamui to make himself intangible. His maximum output of power as the Jinchūriki is based on willpower, and will decrease should it waver. Lastly, Truth-Seeking Orbs cannot nullify or erase senjutsu techniques.

Before We Get to Verdicts
The Infant of Shaa
Arguably one of the single most infamous feats in the entire VS community, it’s no surprise this feat has quite its fair share of debate over the years.
For the uninitiated, a few years after the events of Phantom Menace in the Legends timeline, a terrorist organization found an object known as the Infant of Shaa, which gathers force energies before eventually exploding with enough power to destroy a planet. The Jedi caught wind of this, and Jedi Council member Yarael Poof finds the group. He stops the bomb from detonanting before dying due to injuries sustained earlier in the comic.
For some reason, this one feat has had an absolute mountain of information and context written about it from various sources. We’ll be running through a few of the common arguments levied against the feat.
What did Yarael Poof even do to stop it?
In the actual comic, he says he binds the energies of the idol before he does… something and dies. Many people would later come along and make changes to what exactly he did, but oddly, all of them should still have some basis to apply to Force Potential.
Option 1: Binding/Manipulating the bomb’s energies
This one is probably the hardest to explain so we’ll go through it first.
In the original comic, it’s stated that Yarael binds the energies of the idol together again. What he means by this isn’t specified, but it entails manipulating the Force energies of the idol as per Poof’s own words. In Legends continuity, Force users still need to be able to withstand the strain of the feats they pull off. A good example of someone dying by not being strong enough would be Dorsk-81 dying after throwing a fleet out of the Yavin system. While this will be elaborated on later, it’s stated Poof could’ve used the last ounce of his Force energy to save himself, but choose to save Coruscant instead, the clear implication being that he likely would’ve survived had he not sustained injuries earlier. This means Poof, while on his last ounce of energy, can still manipulate planetary levels of force energies.
Option 2: Containing the bomb
Cited occasionally is the option that Poof contained the bomb in order to prevent it from going off. The bomb is stated in the comic and out of universe that it was about to or nearly exploded, with Poof being the one to stop that. By this interpretation, he would have been able to safely contain planet level energies from a bomb that was moments away from exploding from what we can gather. We can back this up as well, since the Infant of Shaa being close to its larger statue the Mother of Shaa is frequently stated to keep it safe and at no risk of exploding.
Option 3: Absorbing the energies
This one is questionable as it comes from an in-universe historian’s perspective, who obviously wasn’t present (this source also says it’s a chain reaction, more on that later), but it’s also the most direct. It’s stated that Poof absorbed the energies of the idol, meaning he absorbed all, or at least a significant portion of, planet level energy, which it should be obvious why it would be applicable.
Didn’t Poof die doing this feat?
This is technically correct, but misses out context, namely that he stabbed in the chest earlier in the comic in what looks to be his heart or lungs, obviously a very fatal injury. Star Wars Fact File 106 also states “Although he could have saved himself, he used his last ounce of Force to make the object safe - thus saving Coruscant at the cost of his own life.” The implication likely being that he would have been able to live had he not suffered his earlier injuries.
Poof was also completely off-guard when he was stabbed, concentrating entirely on the idol at the time. Attacking a Jedi when they are off guard can kill them because protection from the Force depends on attention.
Didn’t Poof only defuse the bomb?
A handful of sources do say this, but this isn’t mutually exclusive to pretty much any method he would be using to make it safe. Whatever method he used above, you can use defused for and it would still make sense to describe it being made safe, Infant of Shaa isn’t a bomb in the sense of having cables and wires to cut for instance.
Is the bomb actually a world destroyer?
There are some arguments that the bomb would’ve destroyed Coruscant via a chain reaction, stated in a conversation between Zam and Jango and in a fact file. This isn’t a death sentence for the feat however. In the Zam/Jango conversation, Zam was asking what Jango would do in order to maximize damage done by the bomb. Disregarding how Zam earlier states in the same comic it has planet destroying capabilities and Jango frequently doubts it’s capabilities, and Jango’s word also running contrary to nearly every other source from more knowledgeable people in and out of universe, “damage” in this context doesn’t necessarily have to mean raw physical damage. While a planet-busting bomb would obviously do massive amounts of damage, the destruction of the planet’s power relays would still cause much havoc amongst any survivors of the plan, likely the case given these are terrorists. Additionally, Coruscant wasn't the only possible target, as Corellia and Alderaan were also considered likely victims, which are far less developed than the ecumenopolis that is Coruscant, and as far as we can tell have no power relays deep inside their planet’s crust.
As for the fact file statement, while more direct, as mentioned above it comes from an in-universe perspective of someone who wasn’t even present. Even then, there’s simply immensely more evidence that the bomb would just destroy the planet outright, or at minimum split it in half, without mention of chain reactions.
Plagueis/Palpatine shifting Naboo’s climate
This feat comes from the Darth Plagueis novel. The feat is that Hego Damask (Plagueis’ non-Sith alias for the unaware) arrives on Naboo, and it apparently causes a huge climate shift to winter. In Chapter 16 of this same book (some versions may vary), Palpatine seemingly causes the same, as Plagueis is off-world at the time. This feat is a bit controversial since nothing technically says that it’s their doing, but it’s a matter of implication. Both happen coincidentally when a very powerful Sith Lord lands on the planet, and it happening twice puts more evidence behind it.
For extra evidence, in the Rule of Two, the second Darth Bane novel, the Thought Bomb (you may know it as the Valley of the Jedi) causes major climate and weathers shifts on Ruusan due to clashing Light and Dark Side energies from the newly made Force Nexus. Palpatine later has a somewhat similar feat where his hologram’s presence seems to cause storms on Vjun (A writer has said that Vjun is a place strong in the Force, likely referencing it being a Nexus). Naboo is stated to be a Force Nexus, and while never stated, Plagueis and Palpatine being immensely powerful Sith Lords would likely qualify, as a Force Nexus is mainly an unusually powerful Force presence (This Wookieepedia article does a good job of explaining). This would also explain why similar phenomena never occur on a vast majority of other planets, as they would likely not qualify to be Force Nexus’.
As for the 10x multiplier, Palpatine says much later in Chapter 23 that he had a tenfold increase in power, this being long after these events happened.
Star Level Palpatine
In the Plagueis Novel, Sidious seemingly makes stars flare via a tremor in the Force that stems from him, which moves the stars and makes a new constellation.
There are 2 issues here: A later re-examination of the feat suggests the events may have not happened as priorly described.
The second and much larger issue is that it's implied twice in the narration the feat is happening due to a shift in the Force from the death of his master, which Palpatine compares to the shift that caused the birth of Anakin.
“But the moment didn’t constitute an ending so much as a true beginning, long overdue; it was less a transformation than an intensification—a gravitic shift.”
“Two beings in a galaxy of countless trillions, but what had transpired in the suite would affect the lives of all of them. Already the galaxy had been shaped by the birth of one, and henceforth would be reshaped by the death of the other. But had the change been felt and recognized elsewhere? Were his sworn enemies aware that the Force had shifted irrevocably?”
The feat is a chain reaction from a massive imbalance in the Force, not just Sidious himself.
In short, it’s really debatable if this is a feat. The text indicates that he wasn’t aware of the stars until they were already moving, and Palpatine directly questions during the sequence whether the tremor is something that he caused, “or one of forewarning”. It would be pretty reasonable to interpret the feat as the Dark Side itself reacting to Plagueis’ death, rather than Palpatine moving stars around for no real reason when he isn’t even aware of it. At best highly questionable, at worst just not applicable.
Likewise Naga Sadow and Aleema’s star feats have issues.
MFTL Palpatine
Read here. No seriously, read it. Adding it here would increase this already large blog by 8-9 pages.
Tsukuyomi Feat
While the official translations give a timeframe for Itachi’s feat, going over the raws show it's different.

この幻術のなかで過ぎる時間は、 現実世界の何百何千何万分の一である。
The time that passes in this genjutsu is hundreds, thousands, tens of thousands of that in the real world. This brings the feat to being around 3-7c; check the calc linked under Obito’s speed for more details.

Are the Force and Senjutsu Comparable?
Senjutsu is natural energy mixed in with physical and spiritual/mental chakra, The Living Force is very close to what natural energy is. In Legends, the Force used by Sith and Jedi includes the Living Force, but also a component called the Physical Force, and it also has spiritual components as well.

Team Vader
Stats
Alright, now there’s no denying that in terms of stats, this is a pretty complicated matchup, mostly because of the funny thing that Star Wars feats are. However, most of the time, Vader should be pretty capable of taking the stat trinity and have the advantage on this.
Let’s start up with strength and durability. Before going into the big funny confusion thing that is Yarael, let’s go through some more, while weaker, but still strong enough feats. First off, base Obito’s best feat would be scaling to the Tailed Beasts’ Bijuu Bombs. Most of these are usually around the same level of power, and the best feat these have shown has been around 60.368 petatons, or around multi-continental if you want to be more straightforward. Obito should be around or maybe even superior to most if not all Akatsuki, of which have captured and defeated most of the Tailed Beasts. Obito even fought and won against one Tailed Beast itself with the help of Deidara. He should solidly be able to scale to this in base, this being his best scaling without the Ten-Tails. Regarding Vader, he’s got similar feats thanks to scaling to Starkiller, whose best feat would be when his Force barriers sustained an impact capable of shattering a moon into two pieces. And even then, Vader (as Anakin) had thrown a spaceship with strength big enough to make a visible explosion, which got around 77.72 exatons of TNT at best, or moon level as well. Not even with the big feats, Vader already takes a good enough advantage over base Obito. We also should not forget Palps and Plagueis’ shifting of Naboo’s climate with their mere presence, which gets around 1.397 exatons, also around multi-continental. Not as strong as Anakin’s throwing of the escape pod, but still more powerful than base Obito’s best scaling.
Now, if you're knowledgeable on Star Wars, you may know that Anakin was constantly referred to as “The Chosen One” due to his insane amount of midi-chlorians. This is where we get to the thing that’s Yarael Poof and his funny planet feat. As we stated earlier, the Yarael feat should be fair game to use. Let’s keep in mind, Poof is nothing but a mere random Jedi Council member. And yet, it is stated many, many times how Anakin was both one of, if not the best Force User in his generation and far stronger than any Jedi Council member that had ever stood in place. This would mean that Vader upscales heavily from the council members, which includes Poof, who as we know did the defusing of The Infant of Shaa, a feat which got around from 47.37 to 82.42 zettatons, or around Small Planet or Planet overall. Comparing this to Obito’s scaling to Bijuu Bombs, the difference gets around to 1.3654 million times stronger. What does this mean? Vader can practically one-shot base Obito if given the chance pretty easily, considering the huge AP gap. We’ll later get back to this.
But, this is only base Obito, right? If that’s the case then, what about the Ten-Tails Jinchūriki, which we’ll call Juubito here for easier reading. This is when things change. Certainly, Juubito makes the fight a lot closer in strength and durability, but that doesn’t mean Vader still doesn’t have the advantage. As Juubito, Obito’s greatest strength feat is scaling to Toneri’s energy of possibly being able to destroy the planet via a scaling chain with Naruto. This feat got around 29.72 Zettatons, or Small Planet. This is possibly the best Obito has going for him, given how KCM Naruto couldn’t win against Juubito but could against Toneri. Now, when comparing this to Vader’s so far best feat of strength, would give us 29.72 zettatons vs 47.38/82.42 zettatons, which would put Vader around 2x stronger than Juubito. It definitely isn’t as big of a difference as base Obito vs Vader, but it still puts Vader a step above when it comes to both strength and durability. For some other things to mention, let’s remember how Vader upscales from the Jedi Council, this is just the best quantifiable feat for him; he could easily be stronger than that. As another sidenote, Juubito was also stated to be comparable in power to the Sage of Six Paths, the founder of ninjutsu itself. However, scaling to the Sage mostly just adds several additional exaton/zettaton feats and nothing more, which adds consistency, but otherwise doesn’t really change much about Obito’s side of the argument.
Now that we have these two sides covered, let’s go into the final side of the stat trinity, that being speed. For Vader, his best feats once again circle back to the fact that he is far above most other Jedi, a comparison which includes speed. With this in mind, he upscales heavily from an obscure Jedi who intercepted a blaster bolt at a very close range, which got around 4.558c as a low-end and 26.438c as a high-end. However, the one we should focus on for Vader comes from his son Luke. We know for a fact that Vader is superior to Luke (at least up to a point), and an inexperienced Luke could keep up with a combat droid with a modified advanced brain model that could react at 6.1 picoseconds. The Force allowed Luke to see the hit as slow enough to just “roll aside and stand”. The droid’s speed would get around 28.435c at an average speed, and considering that Luke saw this incredibly slowed down, his own speed is likely considerably higher. We’ll get back to this feat later. On Obito’s side of things, his best speed arguments consist of him scaling from Itachi and his Tsukuyomi, which at best gets around 7.368c, and since he can compare to Edo Madara, he’s faster than Gaara who saved Sasuke from a Raikage attack at point blank, which gets around 23.07c. With those two out of the way, we can establish that their best feats of speed compared would be 28c vs 23c, with Vader slightly taking the edge in the closest estimate we know of their speeds.
However, we’d like to go over the Luke picosecond feat for a bit. For context, Shadows of the Empire happens sometime in between ESB and RotJ, so Luke isn’t at his peak during that time. Vader and Luke are around a similar power set by the time Episode 6 happens. With that in mind, Luke being able to react to Guri is a big deal. In addition to being able to process data within 6.1 picoseconds, Guri is modified to be a battle droid that can move in the same time-frames as the brain engine in real time, as evidenced by Magnaguards. Thanks to the power of the Force, Luke could brawl against Guri hand-to-hand no problem, only getting hit when Leia distracted him, and by trusting the Force completely, he saw Guri as though she was moving in slow motion. This means that Vader is significantly faster than the 28c number. Itachi’s Tsukuyomi feat is arguably similar, but that can be discussed in his own stats section. Also, to get this out of the way quickly, if you read the document explaining MFTL Palpatine in detail (which you seriously should), no, Vader shouldn’t scale to Palps’ soul traveling through space. If he could, he’d blitz, but he can’t.
With that out of the way, it’s time to make a final judgment about speed. If there’s one thing that this comes down to, it’s upscaling. Vader upscales from the picosecond feat, while Obito in his base should be relative to Edo Madara, who dodged an attack of Gaara, who blocked an light-speed attack, which we know got around 23c. This would leave Base Obito around that speed, while Juubito should upscale heavily, considering how much faster he becomes. In terms of the numbers themselves, Vader edges out, but what about the upscaling? Going back to Juubito, he was able to blitz Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan Sasuke and Kurama Chakra Mode Naruto, who should be above Gaara in speed. So what we get here is that Juubito should likewise be considerably beyond 23c. So, in the end, to summarize the scaling chains succinctly, for Obito it’d be Juubito >> KCM Naruto and EMS Sasuke > Gaara = 23c. For Vader, it’d be Vader > RotJ Luke > SotE Luke >> Guri = 28c. Vader is likely above RoTJ Luke due to the fact that he was conflicted in that fight, which lowers Force potency, and Luke needed a Dark Side rage amp to win. So what can we get from all of this? Vader should again take the lead against base Obito by a wide margin, blitzing him, since base Obito should be equal to the 23c feat directly. When we’re talking about Juubito though, Vader still takes the edge, but only by a little, keeping in mind the original feats and the upscaling. Still good for Vader, given how he’s still faster and will thus have more chances of getting clear hits.
So, TL;DR, Vader both one-shots and blitzes base Obito, but Juubito should make the fight extremely close in all the stat trinity categories. Even with Juubito in mind, Vader still takes the edge on all three parts of the trinity, but by a close call.
Arsenal and Abilities
There is quite a lot to unpack with these two’s vast array of abilities and tools at their disposal. At a glance, Obito's sheer amount of tools and jutsu does seem to give him an edge in quantity, but Vader’s would be overall more effective in battle to overcome those vast options. Right off the bat, Vader can induce fear onto Obito by Force Fear. While Obito won’t really fall into a cowering state due to his resistance to it, what it would do is unleash a great deal of negative emotions from him. This plays greatly into Vader’s favor as well since he can also feed off those negative emotions to empower himself throughout the battle, essentially turning Obito as a battery for him to feed off of. This widens the AP gap and he can increase this further by stacking Force rage and focus rage on top of it, turning his small AP advantage against Juubito to a potential AP stomp.
Now Obito does have some of his own abilities to help him get past that stat gap, but Vader has the means to counter his major ones. Obito could try and go for the Human Path to rip out his soul and attempt to seal it, but doing so would require touching his head, which is easier said than done given his ever increasing stat lead. Even if he managed to touch his head and remove his soul, Vader can just use the Force to push Obito away and return to his body. Kamui can BFR Vader when he gets close, but that’s an extremely risky move, as Vader one-shots base Obito and is much faster than him on top of his own precognition, so he’d be able to catch him mid-cast and instantly take him out. Kamui’s biggest weakness is that whenever he goes for the attack, Obito’s intangibility is turned off, leaving him open to be grabbed, which has happened to Obito in the past. Obito can seal the Ten-Tails inside himself to close that stat gap and have access to new abilities, but loses access to Kamui. Though he does possess the Truth-Seeking Orbs that can one-shot Vader upon contact, they can be easily repelled with Tutaminis/Force barriers due to the force being comparable to senjutsu (refer to the Force and Senjutsu Comparable section) and would thus just bounce off the shield, along with absorbing other chakra-infused elemental attacks. Even then, Vader can just catch them in midair from a distance using the Force. Vader then can use his own ranged option with precision to go for vital organs such as Obito’s head or eyes, something Vader has done before (refer to the Precision section).
However, there is Obito’s ace in the hole with Izanagi, which makes him practically invulnerable for five minutes. Vader can keep himself away from this tight situation with his use of double vision, which allows him to see glimpses into the future, showing him that Izanagi can’t regenerate his prior wounds and requires hand signs to be used. This gives him the knowledge needed to mortally wound Obito prior or use his long-ranged Force choke when he tries to get some distance/using the jutsu. While using double vision does drain him, it can be used up to a dozen times before it begins to wear him down, which is more than enough for him to avoid the technique. And during all this he grows in power through continuous feeding off negative emotions, and would score a strong enough blow from either his head or vital part of his body that Obito wouldn’t be able to regenerate from. Madara confirmed he was nearly killed by Might Guy, showing the regeneration is not perfect. So while Obito’s vast array of techniques would keep him at bay, Vader’s deadlier options would come out on top.
Intellect and Experience
There is no doubt Obito is an accomplished fighter and tactician. He convinced seasoned veterans that he was Madara Uchiha off of his skills in battle, and played all five great nations into participating in a world war. That said, a lot of Obito’s tactical accomplishments are most often outside of battle, and from decades of planning, not actual in-battle stratagems. His time pretending to be Madara was mostly successful due to the impossibility that was Kamui and from groundwork laid down by the real Madara. Obito has had many hiccups; resurrecting the Ten-Tails in an incomplete state, losing nearly all of the Akatsuki, and being put in a tough spot by Kabuto are some examples. Even in battle, Obito has often overestimated his skill, and has only survived due to his unique abilities from the Sharingan (Kamui, Izanagi, etc). When put on the spot, Obito has faltered before, and was eventually outplayed by his savior, Madara.
In comparison, Vader is everything Obito was mentored to be but failed to reach. Trained since his childhood, Vader is both a monster of battle and a master general. Growing past his errors shown in the clone wars, and eventually even mistakes made from anger, Vader was the Empire’s ultimate instrument of death. To demonstrate:
Vader asked for the best student of the Royal Guards, Burr Danid, who's stated to have flawless offense and defense, and perfect technique, and would know every known fighting style. Royal guards mastered all weapons and every known H2H fighting style and are still no match for Jedi (specifically talking about skill). Vader casually beats Danid.
As Anakin, he had more combat experience than many Jedi Masters, His style incorporated elements from every form of saber combat. His skills are unmatched by all Sith before him, and he was noted to be the greatest Jedi killer in history. He has outskilled two Jedi Knights at once, responding to their attempts at style alteration with his own style borrowing elements from all techniques of combat, making his moves unpredictable. Vader has faced down 1,000 rebel troops by himself and won, and bested Darth Maul while being banned from using the Force.
Vader has broken a code in seconds that would've taken Doc Aphra hours to crack, who in turn is a specialist of that field. He was and is the best pilot in the galaxy. A master inventor, craftsman, and scholar.
Vader's military rank is proportional to his strength, of which he has reached the Position of Supreme Commander of all the Empire’s forces. Vader has conquered worlds for the Empire leading his troops, successfully won the Siege of Hoth, and crushed any possible coups. Holding the title of Supreme Commander, Vader led the Empire to several victories against the Rebel Alliance, and proved himself to also be a master of deception. Vader uses the advantages of his enemies against them, like when he used Lando Calrissian against Han Solo and his allies, and then using Han and Leia as bait to lure Luke Skywalker out of hiding.
Vader’s main folly was a rack of poor choices when moved by anger, in canon, most notably the decision to abandon pursuing rebels to face down his old master, Obi-Wan. However, decades of battle and enlightenment from the Dark Side have purged these weaknesses from Vader. Anger instead became a lens of focus, and of strength.
This is the greatest difference between Vader and Obito, Vader learned from his mistakes and grew, becoming a force of nature and a master at battle. Obito is undoubtedly skilled, but lacks the same growth. Vader’s training exceeds Obito in quantity and quality, being trained by the greatest battle masters of the galaxy, and then further perfecting that for an additional 23 years. He has all the tactical tools to beat Obito at his own game, combat or not.
Conclusion
Overall, this fight is pretty close as it can go either way. However, let’s get one thing clear. Vader dominates base form Obito. Once the shinobi becomes the Ten-Tails Jinchūriki is when this fight becomes close. Despite that though, Vader still has everything he needs to put Obito into a permanent sleep.
For one thing, Vader is higher in the stat trinity. Sure, it’s not a big gap, but even the slightest difference is enough to deliver the killing blow. In the Star Wars franchise, Darth Vader is one of the strongest Force users in the galaxy, more powerful than most Jedi. This includes Yarael Poof, who stopped Coruscant’s destruction. Even the low-end of this feat is twice as strong as Obito’s scaling to Toneri having the energy to destroy the Earth. While the speed gap is much closer between the two, Vader being faster even slightly will allow him to kill Obito first instead of vice versa.
Next, Vader has key abilities that’ll not only widen the stat gap but also make himself one step ahead of Obito. Force Fear will turn the shinobi into a living battery to amp up Vader, Tutaminis and Force barrier will no sell Obito’s Truth-Seeking Orbs, double vision will allow Vader to see into the future, and the Sith Lord can simply use the Force to pop Obito’s eyeballs like a grape. While Kamui and Izanagi are Obito’s best chances at winning, they’ll only delay the inevitable in the end. Obito overly relies on Kamui as a defensive technique for its intangibility, but he needs to be tangible to hit Vader. This will leave him open for a fatal blow by the Sith Lord. It also doesn’t help that Vader’s speed advantage will allow him to dodge being sucked into the Kamui dimension. Sure Izanagi will allow Obito to cheat death, but he’ll lose an eye every time he uses it, and he only has two eyes (not counting his creepy collection of Sharingan eyes). Plus, double vision will allow Vader to see the mechanics of Izanagi.
When it comes to intelligence and experience, Vader is shown to be far better in every way. Sure both were trained from a young age and became one of the big bads of their franchises, but in comparison, Vader grew while Obito stagnated. Vader has shown to be a master fighter, with and without the Force. By himself, the Sith Lord has defeated countless experienced Jedi and armies of rebels. As a master tactician, he conquered numerous planets and earned himself a high military rank in the Empire. He’s a specialist in various other areas, most notably the galaxy’s best pilot. Lastly, Vader spent many decades on the frontline, leading armies on the battlefield as both Anakin and Darth Vader, while Obito spent most of his life hidden in the shadows.
Between the two, Darth Vader is the master while Obito is merely the apprentice. You can say that it’s outrageous or that it’s unfair, but take a seat and see that nothing Obito has ever shown or has is enough to strike down the Sith Lord. Maybe in his dreams, but not in the actual fight. Think of it this way though, at least he’ll be reunited with Rin in the afterlife. In the end, Darth Vader will come out of this fight triumphant, and that’s pretty wizard.
Team Obito
Stats
Naruto and Star Wars stats pretty much change regularly with dozens of different calcs coming out for both, making this no easy match to discuss. Let’s start with Vader’s side.
With his dozens of statements proving him to be on equal footing to Emperor Palpatine, Vader should be comparable to the Dark Lord himself. That’s no small feat, considering Palpatine’s mere presence is enough to shift the climate of an entire planet, a feat solidly in the exaton range. Even as Anakin, he’s causing explosions comparable to the curvature of the Sun, even when far from the peak of his power. And of course, he should scale above the likes of Yarael Poof, who in his dying moments contained the planet-busting energy from the Infant of Shaa, ranging from 47-82 zettatons of TNT. As far as speed is concerned, Vader, and even weaker Jedi, have routinely blocked blaster bolts, even in Legends. This is important since in the Legends continuity, blaster bolts have a looooot of statements of moving at LS, with Master Judd in particular intercepting one at around 4.5-28 times faster than light. The latter number is quite consistent with Vader keeping up with his son, Luke Skywalker, who’s so fast that the droid Guri is moving in slow motion from his perspective. That’s not to be taken lightly, given Guri’s advanced AI brain allows her to perceive events down to 6.1 picoseconds. While perception speed may not scale to her actual combat speed, even accounting for the difference between perception and reactions gets it to over 28 times light speed, and Luke should be much faster than that. Overall, we’re looking at a solidly planetary and FTL+ Vader
Obito is a bit simpler to get the jist of. We know he’s capable of matching KCM1 Naruto in strength, and even survived a direct attack from the stronger KCM2 Naruto. KCM1 Naruto is tough enough to survive a direct attack from the 4th Raikage, A. While that may not seem like much, A has been stated to be on the level of Tailed Beasts in terms of power, large monsters capable of vaporizing entire mountains and even dispersing large amounts of air, clocking up to around 60 petatons for each one. Obito scaling to that tier of power is far from inconsistent, considering how he contributed to the defeat of the Three-Tails, pinned down and pierced Gyūki’s skin, and should be no weaker than Kisame, who’s outright stated to have the power of a Tailed Beast. As for speed, we can scale him to feats like Naruto blitzing the A’s lightspeed Lariat or Edo Madara dodging Gaara’s sand. Obito and Edo Madara are stated to be equal and spam projectiles at similar speeds to one another, proving they should at least be in the same range. Gaara’s sand is capable of intercepting A from attacking Sasuke at practically point-blank range, a feat requiring speeds of around 23 times light-speed. While that’s all nice and dandy, it unfortunately doesn’t stand a chance against Vader. A million times AP gap is already pretty hard to deal with, but given Vader can see 28c characters in slow motion, that should give a pretty good idea of how slow Obito is gonna move in comparison. Base to base, Obito doesn’t stand much of a chance…
…until he absorbs the Ten-Tails’ power and becomes its Jinchūriki. The Ten-Tails power is astounding, capable of creating continent sized explosions and craters, and even act as the Gravity Core for the moon, a feat requiring over a zettaton of TNT. Juubito’s power is so great, it rivals the Sage of Six Paths, Hagoromo, and his brother Hamura. This would put him comparable to the likes of Toneri, who claimed to have power comparable to Hamura when he had control over the complete Tenseigan. With the complete Tenseigan, Toneri hurled the moon with enough speed to destroy the planet entirely. Even accounting for the fact that he had to use half of BSM Naruto’s power, that’s still nearly 30 zettatons of TNT, well into small planet level. And as for speed, Juubito completely blitzed KCM Naruto and Sasuke. Given how KCM Naruto scales to the 23c base Obito, Juubito being fast enough to blitz those levels of speed speaks volumes for how much of an increase he gets with the Ten-Tails’ power.
Overall, while base Obito may be outgunned, Juubito has stats that, while slightly lower than Vader’s, are comparable enough that he can most certainly keep up and give trouble, and this allows him to gain the advantage with his numerous and greater list of abilities.
Arsenal and Abilities
There is quite a lot to cover regarding Obito’s assortment of techniques and skills. Having spent a lengthy period of time with widespread influence courtesy of Madara himself, and having acquired experimentations and benefits that make him a formidable opponent to surmount, Obito will have a huge leg up on Vader if he properly utilizes his abilities.
To begin with, the dojutsu abilities Obito has at his disposal through the Sharingan and Rinnegan open up a gateway to many abilities that will prove to be most beneficial. Most notably, the Six Paths techniques granted to him by the Rinnegan offer a lot of variety and utility. The Human Path can remove Vader’s soul should it land, and if used in conjunction with the King of Hell can even seal it away, preventing any means of escape on Vader’s end, even if he can potentially return to his body. Preta Path can potentially absorb any Force Barrier or Tutaminis that Vader attempts to protect himself with, which is extremely crucial. If that is followed up by Truth-Seeking Orbs, Obito can seize an opening and strike a vital blow against Vader, especially considering the TSOs’ properties of erasing anything they touch on an atomic level and possibly even the soul, something which would prove to be Vader’s undoing. Vader can hold his own using barriers or telekinesis to fend them off, but if they should be removed from the equation, then that could possibly spell the end of Vader right then and there.
And that’s not all Obito has from his repertoire. Kamui grants him significant assistance, allowing him to become intangible and evade any vital blows or attacks, and Vader won’t be able to return should he be sucked in through Kamui to his dimension. Now the caveat to this is that it leaves Obito open as he becomes solidified during the process, but with other things Obito has up his sleeve, he can make this a more challenging endeavor then it would appear. This brings us to arguably Obito’s biggest trump card, the Izanagi. This ability makes Obito virtually immune from all danger for upwards to 5 minutes, as any damage or injuries he receives will be rewritten as an illusion and undone as if it never happened. This provides a critical window for Obito to capitalize on, allowing him to dish out vital assaults or implement tactics and maneuvers to take Vader down, without Vader being able to circumvent it or inflict damage at all during that window.
Another thing to consider is Juubito. Although he loses Kamui, Obito becomes increasingly difficult to put down for good thanks to his regeneration, which is potent enough to regenerate half his entire body being destroyed on an atomic level. When coupled with his barriers and brief period of immortality from Izanagi, this gives Obito several opportunities to seal the deal and land a finishing blow on Vader. Likewise, mind manipulation won’t be effective on Obito thanks to the multitude of countermeasures he has. He could overcome his mind being ripped apart by the Ten-Tails. He can install psychic blocks into his mind from the Rinnegan, which closes off access to his mind and makes it difficult to navigate through it. Even just on the most basic level, the Sharingan and Rinnegan provide general protection from illusions and other abilities of that nature.
On top of that are many miscellaneous advantages, such as possessing greater area of effect thanks to Tailed Beast Bombs, Chibaku Tensei, Shinra Tensei and summoning the God Tree. Or the ability to supply himself with greater numbers with the Animal Path, and use chakra receivers to bind the summons should they be controlled by Vader, or simply undo the technique to send them away during a worst case scenario. With all of this in mind, Vader certainly will prove to be a difficult adversary to face, but Obito’s myriad of techniques, abilities and weaponry that bolsters his wave of attacks, his survivability and defenses that will prolong the battle to turn the odds in his favor will ultimately grant him what he needs to achieve victory in the end.
Intellect and Experience
In this field, both have similar amounts of experience and intellect, though Vader almost certainly comes out on top in terms of direct years of experience, due to his time as both a Jedi and a Sith. However, Obito definitely doesn’t lack experience in comparison. His skill could contend with the likes of Kakashi and Minato, who were renowned as prodigies, and considered two of the greatest shinobis in history. Additionally, he was trained by Madara Uchiha, whose experience vastly exceeds both Vader and Palpatine. Hell, he became so skilled, even Minato thought he was the actual Madara himself. As for intellect, we’d give it to Obito. While in terms of baseline intelligence, you could definitely argue an advantage for Anakin, due to being a natural genius, which Obito is not. However, Vader’s spurts of rage can cause him to be completely blinded by his anger, such as during his fight with Obi-Wan. On the flip side, Obito remained calm throughout almost the entirety of the Fourth Great Ninja War.
Before becoming Tobi, Obito could somewhat compete with fully trained Jōnin as a child, massacre an entire army of Kirigakure ninja, and he learned everything that Madara knew, who at this point had already lived for over a hundred years. After this, he essentially became the Mizukage, and had enough intelligence and skill to lay undetected for years, only being found out by someone with the Byakugan. Later, he’d go on to help Itachi kill most of the Uchihas, almost all of them being incredibly skilled shinobi who had awakened the Sharingan. As Tobi, he was powerful enough to be recognized by the Akatsuki, joined and helped defeat multiple Tailed Beasts, and eventually fought and killed Konan, one of the original Akatsuki members. In the early stages of the Fourth Great Ninja War, he even fought both KCM Naruto and Kakashi at the same time, both of whom are incredibly skilled and tactical.
Finally, after shredding his Tobi persona, he was directly equal to Kakashi, who at this point was known across the world for his prowess. Then, after sealing the Ten-Tails within himself, had enough willpower and mental fortitude to control the power of the Ten-Tails, which was literally ripping him apart inside his mind. As Juubito, he fought the entirety of the shinobi alliance and nearly won, only losing after being persuaded by Naruto.
As you can see, Obito still has a ton of experience, despite not having fought as long as Vader, and he has the skill to match, as established earlier. Therefore, we can conclude that while Vader has more direct experience, Obito more than makes up for it with his own skill and intellect.
Conclusion
Obito and Vader both have many unique advantages to take into account for this fight, but ultimately, this fight comes down to who can land their finishing blow first.
Obito, while at a slight physical disadvantage, can still keep up with Vader’s stats. Both scale to planetary threats, such as Toneri and Yarael Poof, and both scale above FTL+ combatants within their series. While Vader can affect a wider range with his telekinetic abilities via the force, Obito is no slouch in the AoE department, as the Juubi can wipe entire continents off the map and send massive shockwaves across oceans. So while he may not be as ranged as Vader, he can certainly affect a wide enough area to where he isn’t completely outmatched.
Obito also holds more important advantages via his abilities and defensive measures. His regeneration is far superior to Vader’s and ensures he can heal from any wounds Vader causes with his lightsaber, especially considering it allowed him to regenerate from his own TSO.
Vader also cannot mind control Obito, as Obito has resisted attacks targeting his mind before, such as forcing Ino out of her mind transfer jutsu, and general Sharingan abilities include being able to detect and see past illusions, meaning illusion creation won’t be very useful either. To Vader’s credit, however, he has impressive mind control and resistance feats, making it questionable if Obito’s regular genjutsu can affect him, and thus canceling this point out for both, as neither can win based on that technique alone.
Along with his regeneration, Kamui and Izanagi are techniques that while Vader could try to find ways around, still benefit Obito immensely allowing him to bypass any conventional damage Vader may inflict on him. While the former is an ability Obito can no longer use defensively while in his strongest state, the latter is something that essentially grants him immortality for a limited amount of time, and while Vader can try to wait it out, there’s only so much time Vader can spend holding Obito off before running the risk of being hit by one of his win conditions, those being the Truth-Seeking Orbs, Kamui BFR, or Human Path. Couple that with Obito’s comparable skill and mobility advantage (given he’s able to fly as Juubito, and Kamui allows him to teleport both to and from his pocket dimension), several benefits brought about from the Rinnegan, and the Truth Seeking Orbs’ insta-win potential via atomic and spiritual erasure, and it’s not too difficult to see why Obito would have an easier time landing the victory. He simply has much more to pull from and throw at Vader than vice-versa.
