Pride. Greed. Lust. Gluttony. Wrath. Envy. Sloth. The Seven Deadly Sins as per the teachings of Christianity represented what would happen if one had abused their indulgences in earthly vices, to the point of committing many a misdeed in pursuit of their desires. While not outright villainous, our next two combatants hailing from the most prolific company in gaming history have no qualms in creating a ruckus to become the richest beings in all of existence, and if it meant attaining it over the other’s dead body, then so be it:
Wario, the treasure-hunting CEO of WarioWare. King Dedede, the self-proclaimed King of Dreamland. These Nintendo icons straddle the fine line between hero and villain all in service of their own grab for fame and fortune, and will cross any lines they deem necessary to do so. In what is sure to be a drag-out slobberknocker of a brawl, Death Battle’s next episode will see Diamond City’s resident scoundrel with a fart of gold take on Kirby’s great royal nemesis; which one of these gluttonous troublemakers take the throne as the greediest of them all?
Background
Wario
The Star Children, according to Kamek, hold some of the most extraordinary amounts of power in the Mario universe. These include Yoshi, Mario, Luigi, Peach, Donkey Kong, Bowser, and of course, Wario.. Most of them went on to become heroes / ordinary civilians of their land. But not Wario and Bowser. In their childhood, Mario and Wario played Sheriff and Cowboy a total of 1,256 times… Wario only got to be the sheriff once. This lead to Wario holding a grudge towards the red-capped plumber for decades, and he started to plan his revenge.
When Mario went to go on his adventure to Sarasaland to rescue the princess Daisy, he left his castle unguarded. This was perfect for Wario; using his hypnotic powers, he forced all of the citizens to conquer the land for him, as Wario established himself in his newly stolen castle. After a hard fought battle with Mario and the loss of his shoe, Wario was forced to flee. Seeking treasure elsewhere, he has gone on many adventures to uncover several mystical artifacts, defeated many eldritch abominations seeking to get their mitts on his booty, and even starting his own microgame business to make some quick cash. Nothing is too sneaky or underhanded for Mario’s rival, not even releasing a big stinky gas bomb.
King Dedede
No one is really sure how King Dedede became the king of Dreamland. He claims it as the ancestral birthright of the Dedede Clan, but it seems pretty clear that he merely stole that title from the ancient Cappy Clan, the possible true ruling family of Dream Land. Nevertheless, ever since Dedede laid claim to the kingdom, he has led it with an iron fist and a boundless belly. No act is too cruel for him, be it stealing food from his subjects, sending monsters to terrorize them, or simply playing cruel practical jokes, as suffering is the most pleasurable thing for the king. However, he has since learned to soften up, and has routinely gone on adventures with Kirby and friends to save the cosmos on more than one occasion.
Equipment
Wario
Power-Ups
- Carrot: Grants Wario bunny ears, which slow his descent when he falls in the air.
- Fire Flower: Gives Wario the ability to launch fireballs out of his hands.
- Power Flower: Turns Wario into solid metal. While metal, he sinks and can breathe in water, is immune to suffocation from toxic clouds, and is invulnerable to attacks.
- Wing Cap: Grants Wario wings on his cap, which let him fly around in the air.
- Mega Mushroom: Turns Wario into a hulking giant that can smash through almost anything for 16 seconds.
- Jet Pot: Allows Wario to take to the skies and fly for a brief time, as well as improving his general mobility
- Dragon Pot: Allows Wario to shoot fire powerful enough to break blocks, even underwater.
- Bull Pot: Allows Wario to cling to surfaces with his horns, as well as double his strength, at the cost of making him much heavier.
- Mini Wario: Wario's weakened (and possibly his true) form. Brought on by significant damage or spells to make him smaller, this form leaves Wario less physically capable than usual.
Goodstyle
A living magic wand that Wario uses to change into various types of disguises that grant him new abilities. Each disguise is based around a theme, which include:
- Thief: Lets Wario jump higher and run faster, as well as gives him a body slam attack.
- Cosmic: Gives Wario a ray gun that shoots lasers that ricochet off walls and blue balls that activate objects. He also jumps higher and descends more slowly.
- Arty: Gives Wario a brush that he can use to create blocks to platform on, doors that warp him to other locations, and hearts to heal himself. Any time he messes painting something up, it creates an abomination (a walking piece of poo) that can destroy blocks and attack enemies. However, Wario can’t walk while wearing this disguise.
- Genius: Gives Wario goggles that let him see anything that’s invisible. He also has a boxing glove on an Ultra Hand used to attack from a distance.
- Sparky: Lets Wario light up dark areas, power machines back up, and send out jolts of electricity to attack. However, he walks much slower.
- Captain: Lets Wario swim faster. He also has an inner tube to row through water and can submerge with no need for air. Best of all, he has a submarine that he can use to go underwater and shoot torpedoes.
- Dragon: Similar to Dragon Pot Wario, except much heavier, doesn’t work underwater, can shoot hotter blue fire, and can swim in lava.
- Wicked: Allows Wario to fly infinitely.
*It should be noted that Goodstyle didn’t exit the TV World with Wario, so these skills aren’t really something Wario can use at any time. It’s also not explained as to whether these powers are real outside the TV World or not.
Wario Car
A car built by Dr. Crygor that can reach 280 miles per hour. It really hurts when hit by it, and if it kills you, you’ll die.
Standard Kart
The most modern standard kart as of Mario Kart 8. It has glider compatibilities for long drops, is completely immune to water damage, has propellers for underwater travel, and anti-gravity technology to let it smoothly drive along surfaces that would normally be impossible to drive on.
Wario Bike
A bike built by the genius Dr. Crygor, capable of reaching speeds of 217 miles per hour. Capable of crushing enemies under-wheel for heavy damage, blocking projectiles for some time, and even throw at enemies. If it’s destroyed, Wario can simply pull another one out of nowhere. It has two variants, the Speeding Bike for moving faster and the Burying Bike for burying opponents in the ground and trapping them.
Mini Bike
A bike created by Penny Crygor. There’s no word on the potential stats of this but something happened with it where Wario was sucked into it and split into many different Tiny Warios.
Bull Dog
A plane Wario occasionally uses to get around. Capable of dropping buckets and Piranha Plants on enemies, but Wario needs to be careful that the plane stays gassed up with fuel. The buckets themselves can blind enemies for a long time.
Magnet
Even as a baby, Wario had a penchant for pilfering treasure, so he acquired his own magnet capable of pulling almost any metal object to him from great distances.
Brass Knuckles
A pair of...brass knuckles, that boosts Wario’s punching power. Pointed tips for the sake of W shape, and also possibly for easy cuts.
Megavitamins
Taking after his rival, Wario also dabbles in the medicinal business. These pills can heal, act as pesticides, and even be used as projectiles. In Mario Party 4, they're shown to be so great as healing items they can save people from heart failure.
If only Wario knew that taking this up as a general profession would make him balls rich.
Balloon Suit
For whenever he wants to feel large in life, this is a suit Wario can wear that blows him up to enormous size, boosting his strength. However, it can be deflated by removing the plug on its back.
Capsules
Hammer Bro Capsule
Acts as a magic landmine. Whoever lands on it will have summoned a Hammer Bro, who will proceed to attack them before leaving almost immediately. This also steals currency and gives it to Wario.
Mr. Blizzard Capsule
Acts as a magic landmine. Whoever lands on it will have a Mr. Blizzard dropped on them. This will also steal currency and give it to Wario.
Bob-omb Capsule
Acts as a magic landmine. Whoever triggers it for the third time will have a Bob-omb blow up on them. This will also steal currency and give it to Wario.
Chain Chomp Capsule
For a 15 coin fee, you can send it to attack any enemy of your choosing and basically mug them for cash. For 30 coins, when he attacks the enemy, he’ll steal a star off them. Whether or not it can be convinced to steal something else is unknown.
Piranha Plant Capsule
Acts as yet another magic landmine. Any enemy who lands on it will be attacked from under by a Piranha Plant and will have half of their currency stolen and given to Wario after a good chew and spit.
Candy
Cash-Zap Candy
Covers Wario in electricity and allows him to shoot real lightning straight down from the sky to hit his enemy. This also steals half of their currency.
Bloway Candy
Turns Wario into a living tornado. Any person he runs into is blown away a significant distance. It also removes half of their currency.
Bowlo Candy
Shapeshifts Wario into a ball shape. If he runs his enemy over in this state he steals 10 units of the enemy’s currency. You startin’ to see a pattern here?
Chomp Call
Summons a Chain Chomp to attack anyone of the summoner’s choosing for a short time.
Sparky Sticker
Acts as a magic landmine, anyone who passes over it gets shocked by Sparkies, and ten of their currency is given to Wario.
Boo’s Crystal Ball
Summons a Boo to steal coins or stars from any enemy for a fee that varies depending on which. It’s unknown if Boo would be willing to steal anything else.
Super Mega Mushroom
Makes any user quadruple in size for a very limited time.
Mushroom
These iconic little fungi can boost your stats in every way as well as heal a decent amount of damage. They can also increase the user's size back to normal if they've shrunk or possibly make them giant if they're their normal size.
Golden Mushrooms
Boosts to the same extent as a regular Mushroom but with a longer duration. Whether it heals to a larger extent if at all however is unknown at the moment. In Mario Kart, mushrooms offer a significant speed boost, with the golden mushroom offering unlimited boosts for a limited time.
Metal Cap
Quite simply put, it makes Wario completely metal further increasing his weight, making him more durable to the point of “invincibility”, and increasing power to where he can kill enemies by walking through them, all surprisingly without detracting from his speed.
Banana Peels
Physical comedy in its purest form. Does this really need an explanation?
Icy Blue Shell
A shell at least double the height of Wario that when hitting an enemy, completely freezes them. When broken, it explodes.
Blue Shell Bomb
Move over drinking and driving, because now blue shells are the leading cause of death behind the wheel! These monsters target whoever is in first place during a match, home in on them, and then proceed to blow them the fuck up. If the user is in first however, it goes for second place, because someone has to suffer. More likely they just target whoever has a significant advantage in a competition.
Side note: They're also known as the leading cause of smashed controllers.
Super Star
One of the most powerful macguffins in the Mario universe, they have the ability to increase the stats of any user tenfold as well as destroy magic barriers, grant flight, warp space, create worlds, BFR people into pictures, gain invincibility, allow teleportation, etc... This power however is usually somewhat fleeting and it may not last very long if it's used for overall stat boosting. Thanks to good old hammerspace, we know Wario can hold up to around 120.
Mecha Donkey Kong
A giant Donkey Kong shaped mech Wario controls with a control pad. Capable of throwing explosive barrels, sprouting horns to impale enemies, shooting fire, flying usings its rocket boosters, and body slamming enemies.
Wario Power Suit
Taking after galactic bounty hunter Samus Aran, Wario has his own variant of her iconic Power Suit. It’s a fair bit bulky, but it allows him to fire beams of energy strong enough to blast the likes of Mario and Yoshi into the air, shoot stink gas and balls of shit when he runs out of energy, turn into a morph ball form to bowl into enemies, and deploy spikes while in morph ball form. It can be destroyed with enough force though.
Bombs
Wario owns the exact same kind of standard bombs as THE Bomberman himself! This includes the standard power-ups that you’d normally find lying around in Bomberman games to make the bombs more plentiful and deadly. He also has smoke bombs.
Mandrake
A root that can potentially kill people. When eaten, it transforms Wario into Wario-Man. As Wario-Man, his power, speed, and durability are increased. He can attack more rapidly, jump incredible heights, fly, and imbue electricity into his physical strikes. The speed of his Wario Bike also increases dramatically.
Character Caps
Although he doesn’t carry them on his person, Wario can use these caps to instantly turn into either Mario or Luigi. While posing as said characters, he gains all of their mobility options and can even use their Power Flower Abilities, namely the Wing Cap to fly through the air, the P-Balloon to inflate and rise higher, and the Vanish Flower to turn invisible and go through walls.
King Dedede
Hammer
In order to clobbah dat dere Kirbeh, Dedede needed a weapon strong enough for the job, luckily he had just the thing (maybe).
The hammer is the king’s traditional melee weapon. It’s a standard wooden mallet but is capable of smashing large boulders into dust. When at full health King Dedede can fire a hammer wave from it (as a nod to the Legend of Zelda series), and can somehow channel fire into his hammer for his own hammer flip technique, and his own hammer twirl technique. The hammer itself can also be infused with electricity, water, ice, and wind to grant it extra damage along with other attacking properties. The hammer can also send out a wave of energy when swung when Dedede is at full vitality, or fire a smaller, more precise shot when charged up.
He can also fire a beam of energy from his mallet, and throw his hammer for a powerful explosive attack and pull out a new one with the same abilities as the last one, giving him an unlimited amount of hammers. In Kirby Tilt N Tumble, He could also throw his hammer in a boomerang like fashion.
In Star Allies, the king was granted the ability to give his hammer elemental properties. This not only increased his attack power, but gave his hammer new abilities as well. These include:
Bluster Hammer
A hammer imbued with the element of wind. Attacks can now summon whirlwinds and can spin fast enough into a tornado. Enemies are launched further than before.
Zap Hammer
A hammer imbued with the element of electricity. Charge attacks can now summon lightning bolts from the sky and leave electric shockwaves on the ground.
Splash Hammer
A hammer imbued with the element of water. Charge attacks cause waves of water to move forward and regular hammer swings will cause gobs of water to fly forward and hit foes.
Blizzard Hammer
A hammer imbued with the element of ice. Attacks freeze enemies solid and the hammer can summon icicles from the ground to be spear enemies.
Sizzle Hammer
A hammer imbued with the element of fire. Attacks become more explosive and have the king followed by streaks of fire.
Jet Hammer
The jet hammer is Dedede’s standard weapon in the Super Smash Bros. games, and performs just like King Dedede’s normal mallet, and may very well be the same thing. The only differences is that the hammer is outfitted with special mechanical systems which include precision bearings to boost it’s effectiveness in battle and turbo jets (hence the name Jet Hammer).
King Dedede can charge this hammer for a more powerful attack similar to the hammer flip technique, but more powerful. The longer he charges, the more powerful it gets, but if he charges it for too long he starts to get damaged.
Dedede Hammer (Masked Dedede)
This hammer is probably the most powerful hammer in Dedede’s possession, and comes with a mechanical mask which up’s the king’s defense. The hammer is used liked any of his other hammer’s except this time contact with the hammer (and Dedede himself) will inflict an electric shock. Dedede can also send an electric shockwave through the ground by slamming the hammer against it.
The hammer is also a rocket launcher, and can fire rockets while seemingly having an unlimited supply of rockets inside. As an added touch the hammer is also a flame thrower and a plasma cannon. Dedede can use a very powerful spinning attack with the hammer that covers him completely in an aura of electricity and, as a result, leads to dizziness.
Bombs
King Dedede uses a variety of bombs in a variety of games. In Kirby Mass Attack King Dedede was given access to timed bombs that are somehow contained within bubbles. If the bubble is popped the bomb inside instantly explodes, but if undisturbed the bubble can be bounced back at Dedede and explode/be hit back by Dedede depending on where the time lies on the bomb.
Rocket Launcher
A rocket launcher he uses to fire several rockets at a time. Likely served as inspiration to Masked Dedede Hammer.
Gordos
Gordos are invincible circular spiky balls that don’t… do anything. They were added into Dedede’s arsenal in Smash Bros. Brawl were they could be randomly thrown out amongst Waddle Dee’s or Doo’s, but they are now exclusively tossed out instead in newer games. He also throws these in the Dedede arena in Kirby Fighters Z.
Star Rod Hammer Dedede Custom
In Kirby Fighters Z Deluxe, King Dedede obtains this hammer by powering it from the Fountain of Dreams. Giving him the ability to multiply himself into 64 smaller Dedede’s being around the same height as Kirby, including 2 Medium sized Dedede’s that take more hits and have stronger attacks than the smaller ones. He’s also given a new attack where he spins his himself and flings key chains of himself to blind the player (or an opponent if in a fight). He can also fire energy blasts and has the ability to increase his size with the hammer.
Boost Orbs
Boost orbs are special equipment granted during the Platinum league in Kirby Battle Royale that unlock special abilities to aid the user in battle. These orbs are available for Kirby, Meta Knight, Bandana Dee and the King as well.

Deflector
Brushes off attacks automatically for 60 seconds.
Superspicy Curry
Lets you blow flames for 10 seconds.
Berserk
Raises attack strength by 40% and mobility by 50%, but slowly drains health.
Sparkling Star
In Kirby’s Blowout Blast, after having seemingly taken note on how Kirby has used them in the past, King Dedede can use a Sparkling Star to increase his size to that of his own castle.
Doing so increases his strength and durability, along with giving him a stronger inhale ability. He can also use electricity in this form in his hammer strikers, and can even don his Masked Dedede equipment to further his strength and defense.
Robo Dedede
Appearing first in Kirby’s Dream Course, Robo Dedede is a mech piloted by the real Dedede. It attacks by releasing chibi Dededes to bum rush the enemy and deal damage on contact.
HRD3
An overall upgraded look to Robo Dedede, in addition to flight, he can use his drill arm to pierce foes and can fire a large laser out of his mouth. It also has the ability to fire multiple rockets out its body.
Dededestroyer Z
A giant mech Dedede controls in Kirby Battle Royale, capable of creating clones of Kirby to attack for it using the Kirby Printer on its chest. It also uses a hammer attack powerful enough to destroy the ground, shoots a laser cannon that swivels around the arena at extremely fast speeds, and fires missiles. Defeating it requires using concussive force on the robot’s shell.
Hot Air Balloon
Why Dedede needs this to fly I have no idea, but regardless he can drop time bombs inside bubbles that explode after some time.
Super Scope
Only used in Scope Shot, Dedede can use a Super Scope to attack enemies at long range with a combination of charged, powerful, but slow shots, and rapid, but weak shots.
Cracker
A powerful cannon Dedede can use to blast explosive shots that defeat enemies in just a few hits.
Stomper Boot
Similar to the Kuribo’s Shoe from Mario, this spiked boost allows Dedede to crawl inside and harmlessly bounce on anything to get higher, with enemies being crushed by the spikes.
Prism Shield
With this, Dedede can project a shield above him that blocks all projectiles for a short time.
Invisibility Stone
A crystal that allows Dedede to pass through certain walls as long as he’s holding it.
Candle
A candle to light the way to the fridge at night.
Invincible Candy
Makes Dedede invincible for a brief time, allowing him to instantly kill most common enemies and even tougher enemies in a few hits.
Wheelie Bike
In Kirby Air Ride the King is given his own exclusive wheelie bike type that differs from the other wheelie types. It has good top speed, acceleration and offense, but poor handling and charge time.
Dedede Limo
In order to beat Kirby in a race around Dreamland, Dedede ordered this monstrous machine from Nightmare Enterprises. It comes with buzzsaw wheels, bombs, thumbtack traps, oil slicks, missiles, a high-pressure water cannon, noxious gas, and a retractable hammer.
Dedede Tank
Before he got his limo, Dedede drove a tank equipped with a cannon.
Dedede Dolls
A set of dolls Dedede possessed that work independently of Dedede and follow his every movement, and can also implant suggestions into people while they sleep. However, whatever happens to the dolls happens to Dedede as well due to their psychic link with him.
Delightful Dreams Pillows
Special pillows ordered from Nightmare Enterprises. Due to the Noddies living inside, anyone who sleeps on them is stricken with terrible nightmares, and anyone who eats the Noddies falls asleep FOREVER...or a thousand years.
Dedede Stone
A giant stone mecha Dedede used to try and crush Kirby.
Microtizer
A shrink ray Dedede ordered from Nightmare enterprises to shrink others down to the size of a pea.
Laser Saw
A saw Dedede uses that’s capable of cutting down trees in seconds.
Dedede Parade Float
A giant parade float in Dedede’s image, capable of firing numerous rockets out of its hammer and throwing bombs.
Dedede Submarine/Paddleboat/Whaling Ship
A set of aqueous vehicles Dedede used to try and destroy the Rainbow Coral Reef and hunt whales.
Cream Pies
Deliver sweet justice to all who cross the king. If you thought of something non-confectionary while reading this, shame on you.
Insta-Monster Mixture
Developed by his servant Escargoon, this serum can turn any creature into a hulking monster in a flash. However, whether they serve the king or not depends on the creature, so it could backfire.
Pump Up D/Power Down E
Pump Up D is an energy booster drink that, when consumed, grants King Dedede a burst of energy for about a day, after which he becomes very tired and needs to drink another one to regain his energy. Power Down E makes anyone who drinks it tired, lethargic, and unable to fight.
Power Bracelet
Developed by Escargoon, it allows anyone who uses it to insert a powerful gemstone into the open slot, and then fire a powerful blast of energy. The laser emitted was capable of destroying Masher 2.0, the second strongest monster in Kirby Right Back at Ya! behind Heavy Lobster. Does not wipe away half of the universe.
Abilities
Wario
Melee Techniques
- Dash Attack: Wario’s signature attack where he dashes forward and shoulder bashes whatever is in his way. Sakurai hates it for some reason.
- Earthquake Punch: Wario punches the ground so hard it creates a shockwaves that damages enemies and knocks them down.
- Mega Toss: Like Mario, Mario grabs the enemy from behind (ala Mario grabbing Bowser’s Tail) and spins around really fast before letting go.
- Smash Attack: Essentially Wario’s version of the Ground Pound, where he falls downward to smash enemies beneath him.
- Wild Swing-Ding: Wario grabs the opponent, swings them around, and powerfully hurls them. The lighter the foe, the faster he'll spin them. Gradually swings the poor victim faster and faster, and spins them around up to 23 times before releasing them.
- Piledriver: Wario grabs an opponent, leaps into the air, and them slams them onto the ground head-first for heavy damage.
- Corkscrew Conk: Executed by jumping while performing a shoulder bash, causing Wario to start spinning in the air in order to cross large gaps and deal immense damage.
- Corkscrew: Wario spins while traveling upward, acting as both a damage-dealer and vertical recovery. The Widescrew variant does less damage and doesn’t travel as far upward, but is good for horizontal recovery. The Corkscrew Leap offers more vertical recovery at the cost of all horizontal recovery and damage.
- Chomp: Wario inhales an enemy and then clamps down on their head, biting then numerous times as he recovers little bits of his vitality with every chomp. The more damaged an enemy is, the longer they can be chewed on. If Wario eats a healing item with Chomp, it actually heals 1.5x more than it would otherwise. In fact, Wario can just skip the biting altogether and simply breathe nasty garlic breath on his foes to stun them briefly, leaving them open for attack.
Gas Mask
Wario’s “Gas Mask” is more or less a trail of farts he can leave behind him while running that largely obscure vision, disorient whoever smells it enough to affect their movement, and ends up upsetting them enough to want to call Wario out on it.
Wario Waft
Wario charges up his noxious back gas over time before releasing it in an almighty mushroom cloud of stink that deals heavy damage. Charges up over time and charges faster if he eats.
Magic
Wario possesses several magical abilities, including the ability to turn himself into a tree, turn enemies into pigs, and trap enemies in bubbles.
Greed
Wario’s lust for cash is so immense that he can actually resurrect himself at the cost of a small chunk of change.
Mega Strike: Swelled-Up Wario Time
Wario swells up like a balloon by inhaling air into his lungs, before blowing himself up (yes you read that right) into an explosion that can split projectiles into six that rapidly smash into the opponent (though it is unknown if this is some magical property of Wario’s or the ball’s)
Super Strike: Belly Blast
Wario punts a ball into the air, and then charges it up with electrokinesis (yes, he has that too) to shoot the ball forward with his belly with heavy damage.
Booger Attack
Wario can actually shoot his nose nuggets at enemies to damage and bind them in place. He can also infuse his...boogers with fire to make flaming nostril nuggets.
Digestion
A move he probably picked up from his prehistoric lizard babysitters, Wario can stick out his tongue to gulp down faraway objects, energy attacks, elemental attacks, magical spells, and even sentient organisms with ease. He can also eat explosives, which somehow does less damage than if they explode next to him normally...somehow? He can even suck in air to fly and shoot it out as a projectile.
Hypnotism
A natural ability Wario seems to have. He used it to conquer Mario’s Land and turn the citizens against the ruler.
Regeneration
Pretty self-explanatory, Wario is so damn tough and persistent he survives things to an extent most Mario characters can’t. This includes being blown to pieces, melted, bisected, and burned to a crisp.
King Dedede
Inhale
Ever since the first game King Dedede has had the ability to inhale, and has improved to the point where he can inhale anything up to 10 feet in front of him, and he can inhale anything from Fire Kirby to Plasma Kirby with no trouble. He can also spit out damaging puffs of air powerful enough to destroy stone blocks, just like Kirby.
After inhaling an object, he can spit it out at high speeds in any direction (sometimes breaking the fourth wall and shooting at the screen) and after being beaten by Kirby in Nightmare in Dreamland, shot Kirby out of Popstar’s atmosphere within seconds from his mouth. Since the first game, Dedede also has the ability to shoot things out as Star Spit, turning anything he spits out into a star temporarily.
Star Spit
It’s not really clear how per se, but Dedede can somehow transmutate enemies into stars when he inhales and spits them up. He’s done this before in Kirby’s adventure and in the Smash series. Now if only he could keep them swallowed forever…
Flight
After getting his ass kicked in the first game as mentioned before, Dedede went through intense training to puff himself up giving him the ability to fly according to his melee trophy. He does this by inhaling air, and he can fly at high speeds.
Super Dedede Jump
Dedede can jump at over 12 feet in the air. After landing he can cause a small shockwave in the shape of stars around him.
Genius Intellect
Despite his actions, he’s actually been shown to be a genius, since on more than one occasion has built mechanisms like The Dedede Hammer, Jet hammer, the Dedede Brooch in Super Smash Bros. Brawl which changed any character turned into a trophy back to normal, etc. The anime version, though...eh not so much.
Electrokinesis
Yep. This is a thing. Done in Kirby’s Pinball Land, Dedede has the ability to generate bolts of electricity from his hands. Now onto what this can do, the electricity is powerful enough to stop metal flippers in a giant pinball machine-esque arena.
Teleportation
Confirmed by an old miiverse post, Dedede can teleport himself in Dedede’s Drum Dash to get back on the move.
Possible Dimensional Travel
One time, Kirby ended up sucking Dedede into his stomach dimension, but in the next episode Dedede got out. It’s possible Kirby simply ejected him from his stomach, or maybe Dedede escaped on his own.
Hypnotism
By using his TV Network, Channel DDD, along with a black and white wheel, Dedede can hypnotize anyone watching his TV Channel into following his commands.
Waddle Dee Army
By performing a summoning dance, Dedede can call forth an armed squadron of Waddle Dees, Waddle Doos, and the occasional Gordo to attack foes.
Giant Dedede Swing
Dedede performs a powerful spin attack with his hammer.
Ultra Giant Swing
Dedede somersaults in the air while spinning his hammer around his body several times. With wind, King Dedede's aerial descent slows as he performs this move.
Hammer Twirl
Dedede twirls his hammer below him, temporarily invincible as enemies are damaged who contact him. With ice, Wherever standing or in midair, King Dedede creates four icicles, two to either side of him. With wind, King Dedede floats into the air, creating a whirlwind beneath him. With fire, King Dedede creates a brief fiery explosion around himself. With water, King Dedede shoots out two droplets, one to either side of him. With electricity, King Dedede summons down a bolt of lightning onto himself as he twirls his hammer.
Dedede Hammer Throw
Dedede does a spin attack before throwing his hammer, which self-destructs for heavy damage before returning to his side. With ice, King Dedede creates a trail of crystalline ice along the ground. With wind, King Dedede floats into the air as he spins, creating a small whirlwind. With fire, King Dedede creates a trail of fire as he travels along the ground. With water, King Dedede creates a trail of water as he travels along the ground. With electricity, King Dedede leaves a trail of sparks as he travels along the ground.
Hammer Flip
Dedede charges his hammer with fire before swinging it upwards for heavy damage. With ice, King Dedede creates a series of increasingly-large icicles in front of him, the more the longer the move is charged. With wind, King Dedede's jumps are floatier while charging this move. When released, he leaps up into the air before slamming his hammer down to the ground, creating a whirlwind on impact. With fire, King Dedede shoots out fireballs as he swings, the number of which depending on how long he charges up, and the fireballs explode on contact. With water, King Dedede shoots droplets forward as he swings, the more the longer he charges. With electricity, King Dedede summons down a bolt of lightning onto himself as he swings, and the lightning creates electrical explosions above him, the more the longer he charges.
Head Slide
Dedede rushes forward before belly flopping and sliding forward to damage enemies.
Friend Hearts
As a result of the events of Kirby: Star Allies, Dedede was granted the power to throw an unlimited supply of hearts. When these hearts touch another enemy, that enemy’s moral compass is automatically oriented towards serving Dedede as his ally, following his every command until Dedede decides to “unfriend” said ally. The ally also gains the ability to toss Friend Hearts, and generally becomes comparable to Dedede in power as a result of the friending. The only ones unaffected by the Hearts are those who are truly corrupted and evil, who simply take minimal damage upon touching them.
Transformations
Wario
Tree Wario
Wario uses magic to combine himself with a tree. Can ensnare enemies with his roots, whip enemies with his roots, release bad breath capable of killing plants in an instant, can emit spores that make people trip balls, and can melt people with a substance from his mouth. However, he is vulnerable to stuff that hurts trees, and if he takes too much damage he will revert back with whatever injuries he sustained.
Vampire Wario
After being bitten by a vampire bat, Wario temporarily becomes a vampire, capable of defeating foes on contact, and transforming into a bat to fly through the air. Can be reverted with light, water, or garlic.
Invisible Wario
Wario's flashiest look yet; when splashed with a scientist’s potion, Wario becomes invisible. He turns back when hit by something that transforms him into another form.
Electric Wario
Upon coming in contact with electricity, Wario becomes an electrified man that shocks anyone he touches.
Flat Wario
Getting crushed turns Wario flat, allowing him to crawl through tight spaces and dodge under attacks, as well as glide. Touching water turns him back to normal through...expansion.
Zombie Wario
Upon being bitten by a zombie, Wario becomes invulnerable for some time and can kill almost anything on contact. If he ends up coming apart, he can simply put himself back together again in a short time. However, his speed is dramatically decreased as a result, and he reverts back upon touching water or sunlight.
Tiny Wario
Active upon Wario being hit by a shrinking spell. Increases Wario’s agility, allowing him to slip through spaces he couldn’t otherwise. However, he becomes much weaker and more susceptible to damage, and can’t body slam anyone. He reverts back upon being hit or when touching water.
Puffy Wario
When Wario is stung by a bee, he puffs up like a balloon, allowing him to float upward slowly. It wears off when Wario is hurt or crashes into the ceiling.
Fat Wario
Activated upon Wario eating too much. He becomes much slower and can’t jump very high, but his normal jump becomes a shockwave-inducing ground pound, and can damage enemies by walking into them. Exercising or water returns him to normal.
Crazy Wario
Happens when Wario gets drunk. No, he really gets drunk. He spins around without any control of his movements, but can breathe poisonous clouds to damage enemies, and returns to normal upon touching water or being hurt by enemies.
Bubble Wario
Happens if Wario touches bubbles underwater. He floats upward. He returns to normal when reaching the surface or touching a wall.
Bouncy/Spring Wario
Happens when Wario is crushed by a hammer specifically (hmm…). He can jump higher than normal. It has a time limit, but it can also be exited early by touching a spike.
String Ball Wario
Happens when Wario is wrapped in spider silk, moving him uncontrollably and bouncing him off walls until time runs out.
Frozen Wario
Happens when Wario gets...frozen. He slides around uncontrollably until he hits a wall, but he can slide over normally dangerous hazards unharmed.
Snowman Wario
Happens when Wario is covered in snow. He can defeat enemies on contact and slide down slopes as a giant snowball to smash any obstacles in his way. However, he cannot run.
Flaming Wario
Occurs when Wario is burnt by fire. Enemies that contact him are burnt to a crisp. Can be reverted by either falling into water or simply burning to ash and then regenerating.
Wario Man
Although in the Wario series of games this transformation doesn’t seem to do much of anything, in Super Smash Bros. it acts as an all-purpose stat buff, increasing Wario’s strength, speed, durability, and even the power of his farts so they hit with the strength of a nuclear-powered bulldozer.
Mario
By wearing a Mario cap, Wario can quite literally, turn into Mario and use any of his own special abilities. It is however still Wario beneath that skin, so his usual demeanor likely shouldn't change. Should the cap get knocked off of him in any way, he'll turn back into Wario.
Luigi
Wearing a Luigi cap, Wario can turn into Luigi, the cowardly green Mario. Same as before, he gets all of Luigi's special attributes and abilities. It's still Wario under there however, and if you manage to knock off his cap he turns back into his normal form.
King Dedede
Masked Dedede
After taking one too many losses to the pink puffball, Dedede dede-decided he had had enough. So, gathering all of his might, he crafted a powerful iron mask and a brand spanking new hammer and challenged his long time rival to an electric cage match to the death. With a slew of new moves like missiles, flamethrowers, and an improved inhale, he’s a tough customer to beat.
Giant Dedede
Upon defeat in Kirby’s Blowout Blast, Dedede turns into a penguin kaiju whose attacks hit much harder. His hammer also naturally releases shockwaves when attacking. It also has its own masked form equipped with a missile launching hammer. The mask itself also finally serves a defensive purpose, as only stronger attacks are capable of breaking through it.

- Survives this bomb that majorly damages a mountain sized fortress.
- Can be set on fire, crushed, frozen, or electrocuted, and use it mainly for his own benefit.
- Survives Bomberman’s bombs (whether or not you could use this to argue for scaling to Bomberman series feats is arguable at best though)
- Can easily get back to normal if he were turned into a vampire or zombie.
- Tanks the Shake King's Detonation at point blank range.
- Can survive falling into a black hole that eclipses multiple galaxies
King Dedede
Accomplishments
- Stole all the food in Dreamland with no resistance.
- Stole all the stars in Dreamland’s sky in one night… twice(somehow)
- Has done battle against Kirby, the “hero of the lower world” on several occasions.
- Helped save Ripple Star and the universe from the likes of the fiendish 02.
- Helped Kirby, Meta Knight, and Bandana Waddle Dee save the universe from the tyrannical Magolor.
- Helped Kirby defeat Queen Sectonia after she had fused with the Dreamstalk.
- Defeated Dark Meta Knight, an enemy that had given Meta Knight trouble in the past.
- Helped Kirby and allies defeat the godlike Void Termina after it had been summoned forth by Hyness. Void Termina’s death explosion eclipsed several galaxies, and Void Termina itself is described as “the origin and ancestor of all chaos and possibilities” in the Kirby universe, mainly the concepts of darkness, dreams, soul and heart, as well as existing in the other dimensions in the greater Kirby multiverse, including Halcandra and Another Dimension.
- Fought against Zan Partizanne who’s electricity is stated to be potent enough to power the Jambastion, a hulking intergalactic space station much larger than multiple planet’s in Kirby’s galaxy
- Successfully starred in his own rhythm game.
Strength
- Comparable to Kirby, who can crack Planet Popstar in two (outright destroying it in the manga), throw a frying pan to the sun and back in seconds, and break stone blocks with ease.
- Has knocked Kirby unconscious before
- Likely comparable to Claycia, who created Seventopia, a series of seven dimensions, each containing mass quantities of stars.
- Comparable to Nebula, a form of Dark Matter capable of creating a black hole as large as a neighboring galaxy
- Can easily smack Kirby around like a beach ball.
- Can bust through doors using his hammer, as well as crack Escargoon’s shell.
- Should be physically stronger than Meta Knight, who held up the Dedede Stone using only his sword.
- Beat up his entire army of Waddle Dees while high on Pump Up D
Speed
- Should be superior to Knuckle Joe, who traveled as data through NME’s online monster system
- Comparable to Meta Knight, who flew from NOVA’s spawn point at the edge of the galaxy to Popstar at the edge of the universe in a brief time, and is consistently capable of traveling at faster than light speeds.
- Able to catch up and dodge the falling Jamba Heart pieces, which traveled across the entire galaxy/universe in a brief time. (It uses both the words galaxy and universe at different points, although given that Popstar is on the edge of the universe it seems likely that universe is more what they were referring to. Assuming best case scenario, the speed is 97.8 quadrillion times the speed of light)
- Kept up with the Warp Star, which traveled from Nutty Noon on Popstar to Another Dimension to fight Grand Doomer in a short time.
Durability
- Has shrugged off numerous beatdowns from Kirby and gotten back up afterwards.
- Survived the explosion of a robotic Nightmare Enterprises Dog made specifically to kill Kirby with little injury (as seen above)
- Survived getting blasted out of his own castle.
- Survived being in the middle of a gigantic explosion of Bomb Kirby’s bombs without a scratch.
- Survived being burned to ash on two separate occasions
- Has survived getting flattened on multiple occasions
- Has survived exploding
- Survived the same explosion Kirby did at the end of Kirby Triple Deluxe that eclipsed all of Popstar
Weaknesses
Wario
Wario is highly motivated by greed and can usually act extremely dumb at times. A lot of his transformations, while some of them do have very potent effects, are generally very hard to actually utilize due to their extremely specific activation conditions. Not to mention that despite being portrayed as Mario’s physical superior, he’s never been able to truly defeat Mario in pitched combat, likely due to his somewhat simplistic battle strategies.
King Dedede
While the king has been shown to be strong enough to harm Kirby… he’s never actually been able to beat the pink puffball. He also has a bad habit of getting possessed and brainwashed and made to do others bidding, and a few of his transformations also come from these possessions so it’s unlikely he will be able to access them again. Granted, he has gained some resistance to darkness-based corruption. Also, he’s really dumb in the anime. Like, so dumb he can’t even read.
Summary
Wario
Advantages:
- Far more durable and stronger via scaling to the likes of Mario and Bowser.
- Definitely the more unpredictable and versatile of the two.
- More hax abilities than Dedede, particularly through the use of his magic
- Practical means of hypnotization
- Wario’s transformations > Dedede’s transformations on the whole.
- Overall has slightly more combat experience.
- Regen makes him extremely difficult to put down for good
- More methods of growing to a giant size
- Can potentially self-inflict into a lot of his different forms
- Self revival methods (megavitamins to prevent heart failure and being able to pay for his resurrection)
- With the Power Suit, he can literally make Dedede eat shit if he's not careful while inhaling
- Sticky boogers and fart clouds offer supreme control of the battlefield.
- Wario’s candies and capsules serve as a counter to the Cashgrabber orb.
- Is a Lesbian Ally.
Disadvantages:
- Possibly statstomped when stats are not scaled to the Star Children
- At their peaks, Wario is a good margin slower than Dedede.
- Wario Car and Bike aren’t as useful as Dedede’s Limo.
- Not as smart.
- Susceptible to Dedede’s Star Spit ability
- Is susceptible to Dedede’s Friend Hearts.
- Doesn’t have an equivalent to Waddle Dee Army or the 64D’s
- Many of Wario’s transformations are very situational
King Dedede
Advantages:
- Way faster using peak speed for both
- Dedede’s Limo is generally superior to Wario’s car and bike.
- Friend Hearts would definitely be effective on Wario to grant Dedede the upper hand temporarily…
- Generally the more intelligent of the two
- Star Rod Hammer Custom can improve Dedede’s numbers
- Star Spit serves as a method of transmutation
- Cashgrabber Orb interferes with Wario’s greed mechanic and his ability to resurrect himself, and the other Boost Orbs offer a slew of stat buffs.
- Pump Up D and Power Down E can either raise Dedede’s stats or lower Wario’s fighting capabilities respectively.
- Insta-Monster Mixture could be used on Dedede to increase his stats at the cost of his intelligence by turning him into a monster.
- Has elemental, magic and mechanical hammers
- Statstomps Wario if Wario is not scaled to the other Star Children.
- If Wario eats the Dreams Pillows, he would fall asleep forever. Then, the Dedede dolls could be used to hypnotically implant suggestions in Wario’s head.
- Is a supah stah warria.
- In a healthy relationship with Bandana Waddle Dee
Disadvantages:
- Wario’s ridiculous regeneration makes it hard for Dedede to put him down.
- Friend Hearts don’t allow Dedede an easy way to actually kill Wario.
- Has far less hax abilities than Wario.
- Star Spit is only temporary
- If Wario is scaled to the likes of Mario and Bowser, Dedede is heavily outclassed in strength and durability.
- Has slightly less combat experience.
- Less transformations, and half are even more situational than Wario’s
- Not as unpredictable as Wario.
- Hypnotization isn’t as good as Wario’s.
- Less reliable healing
- Dedede’s equipment allows Wario access to transformations he wouldn’t have otherwise.
- The Dedede dolls inflict the same pain they feel onto Dedede

This match has a lot going for it, but I have to address some of the points made throughout the blog to give a good idea of just how close this match really is.
A lot of Wario’s abilities are very situational, and result in him oftentimes needing to get hurt in order to activate. While “unpredictable,” most of them aren’t all that useful, like freezing solid and being unable to move, being squashed flat limiting his movement, a ball of string nobody has access to, zombie and vampire transformations that he also has no access to. Even his most basic powers like the fire flower or the wing cap are countered by Dedede’s ability to use fire in his attacks and his basic ability to fly.
Seeing as both Dedede and Wario have means of enlarging themselves, that seems to be the only transformation worth noting when Dedede has the ability to channel several different elements into his hammers, countering all of Wario’s transformations (Or outright initiating them) which are much more useful and practical than Wario’s transformations which, quite honestly, barely qualify as transformations. On top of that, Dedede’s ability to go Kaiju is much larger than anything Wario’s been shown to grow to, to which he can also use his hammers in said form.
So many of their abilities counter each other, it really is going to have to come down to stats and hax, which I quite honestly believe Dedede has in the bag.
Multiple times throughout the Mario series, Wario has been stated to be Mario’s superior in strength. Just about everywhere else though, he comes up short. Dedede is fast enough to react to a macguffin that launched at the ends of the universe in seconds, Wario has nothing close to that, and no, I’m not entirely keen on scaling Wario to any of the Mario higher ups, especially since feats related to Rosalina (Who Wario has in no way fought alongside or against with outside of sports and party games) are done only through the help of a Luma. Even scaling to Bowser is odd when most of the time when Bowser and Wario interact Wario is constantly chased or pushed around by Bowser, moreso than Mario.
On top of this, Boost orbs allow for incredible boosts in abilities that also counter or surpass Wario’s powers to an insane degree, including a 50% increase in speed to Dedede’s MFTL speeds. Boost orbs that also increase strength will also lower the gap in-between them.
I know it’s been a subject of debate for who these guys will scale to and why, and to that end I can say Dedede’s scaling is much more reliable and straightforward than Wario’s. Recently, Dedede has become much more relevant as a Kirby final boss, while Wario and Mario haven’t tangled in years, giving me much less reason to believe Wario scales to anyone who isn’t just the portly plumber. And if it’s argued that Wario loses to Mario who is still physically weaker than Wario, then I have every reason to believe the same outcome will happen for Dedede since (Despite the anime) he’s actually been shown to be a pretty smart and competent fighter. Him running an entire army (without the need for hypnosis) should be a big indicator of that.
That said, scaling isn’t needed for the most part on this match, which if that’s the case Wario’s goose really is cooked, since Dedede ironically holds the best speed feat in the Kirbyverse and has survived a lot of the same or similar punishment Kirby has.
With the subject of hax, Dedede’s is still far more impressive with his ability to influence a person’s heart via the friend heart, and his ability to transmute via the star spit ability. Given Wario’s tiny, vampire and zombie transformation, he isn’t exactly resistant to being transformed. If the argument is that Wario has high endurance because of the amount of punishment he takes, there’s evidence that Dedede has just the same amount of endurance, with the advantage of being faster.
Both Wario and King Dedede have survived being exploded, flattened, and being burnt to ash on multiple occasion and have put themselves back together afterwards. They’re both, generally speaking, incredibly difficult to put down, and part of that has to do with their wacky toonforcey nature.
With everything at Dedede’s disposal, from magic, mech suits, to elemental and mechanical hammers, he has enough speed, hax, versititly and endurance to keep up with the portlier plumber.
Dedede’s gonna clobbah dat dere Wario.
Malcolm Belmont
Being honest here, i have really wanted this battle for a while and i am glad that it’s finally happening. I know that there are better matchups for both of them but i like both chatcters and i feel that they make a lot of sense to be paired up together in terms of a fight. Now as for who would win - by looking at the analysis - unless you are ones of those speed readers who only take a look at the verdicts which in case if you do:
In all seriousness - based on the feats as well as abilities and movesets The G1DBFB has shown off in the analysis section - you might get the mindset that out of these two Nintendo icons - Wario is most likely to come out on top and you would be right. While i do think there are areas where King Dedede comes out on top generally (like intelligence and speed). Generally in most categories - the rival of Mario has the edge but first let's talk about the areas where the tubby penguin does win - mostly speed.
In terms of speed - while King Dedede is slightly slower than Kirby and Meta Knight,he has been able to consistency keep up - so he scales. Kirby is is able to keep up with the Warp Star which has a speed of 96172280675748830c - aka Massively FTL. So - Dedede scales to the Warp Star through Kirby - that puts his speed at Massively FTL. Plus he kept up with some of biggest bads in Kirbys verse who have also kept up with the Warp Star. So Dedede is Massively FTL...w hat about Wario? Well we can scale Wario to Shake Kin Speed which was calced to be Mach 225.6147 or Massively FTL. that about Power Stars then - well they likely won't be used in the fight though they would give him MFTL Speed. So in terms of speed - FTL is superior to MHS+ so Dedede wins this area but strength and speed are also a key factor. And based on my previous hinting - Wario wins these areas as well which he does and allow me to explain why.
So let's talk strength. Wario is able to shake the entirety of this castle by jumping as well as create massive quakes with his punches.Physically outmatched enemies like Black Jewel who had the power to turn Wario's Castle into a separate dimension. In the manga, he beat down Mario and Luigi at the same time. Those are his most impressive feats through not scaling. So what about the King? Well easily smacks Kirby around, can bust through doors using his hammer and beat up his entire army of Waddle Dees. So on paper Wario may edge out in strength but what about Scaling - Who did Wario and Dedede scale to and how would those feats impact the fight..well. We know Wario scales to Mario,Luigi and Bowser. Mario in Mario and Luigi Dream Team - has defeated Antasma - who is strong enough to manipulate and move constellations which puts him at Large Star Level. Considering Mario beat him - logically he should scale which puts Mario and likewise Wario at large star level. Mario has also beaten a Grand Star Boosted Bowser. The Grand Star is more powerful than Power Stars can also turn into galaxies. While its dubious if Wario could scale to Grand Star Boosted Bowser - he could definitely scale to Matio which puts his Destructive Capability at around Large Star Level - Galaxy Level though personally i lean towards Lare Star Level. So what about King Dedede?
Obviously King Dedede scales to Kirby and Meta Knight considering he has allies with and fought both of them. For those who don’t know their Kirby. who can crack Planet Popstar in two and destroys iit in the manga as well as being able to throw a frying pan to the sun and back in seconds as well as comparable to Claycia, who created Seventopia, a series of seven dimensions. So if we take scalin into account, who would win? Well it's certainly close but i am giving this to Wario - Wario not only has more outwardly impressive feats then the King in my opinion but also the Antasma Constellation Feat is more impressive than Kirby breaking the planet - Antasmas feat should at least be Star Level/Solar System Level while Kirbys feat is simply Planet Level so in terms of scaling - he scales to characters more powerful than King Dedede. And that's not even mentioning Galaxy Bowser. So overall in terms of who wins in terms of strength and DC i would have to give this to Wario.
Let's talk durability - now i am saying this right now - Wario's durability is insane.Wario-Man has survives atmospheric re-entry as well as survived falling into a black hole that eclipses multiple galaxies. That final feat should put Wario over King Dedede easily but for comparison we will take a look at KDDs feats. King has survived getting blasted out of his own castle and has being beaten to a pulp by Kirby….so yeah King Dedede really has the shorthand in this category. Even if we ignore the black hole durability feat - Wario simply has a lot more impressive durability feats and the fact he has being beaten by the likes of Mario who is an extremely powerful fighter should more than prove that in terms of durability - Wario has the edge.
So Dedede has the speed edge while Wario has the Strength/Destructive Capability and Durability edge so what about Weaponry/Power-Ups. Well the fact that the amount of powerups that we have listed for Wario should tell you something - he has a lot and i truly mean this, ALOT of powerups, these power ups give Wario an incredible amount of versatile (i am not going to list them as we have the blog to that) but he has powerups that can burn, freeze, zap, drain the life, turn into different costumes and roles like Sly Cooper in Thieves in Time. He can alter his body shape and body mass to become Big Wario or Thin Wario. He can even use the Mega Mushroom to pull a Rita Repulsa and make himself grow. While Dedede himself has a fair amount of power ups (as well as different forms of hamers) i still think they have far less utility then Wario’s numerous powerups as well as lack the power. So in terms of arsenal i would argue Wario greatly eclipses King Dedede.
At the end of the day while King Dedede may have the edge in speed - he comes a bit short everywhere else - he lacks the destructive capability nor strength in order to put Wario done and his durability is nowhere near as impressive as Wario. Coupled with the fact that Wario has so many powerups that could be used to neutralise or counter King Dedede who has a far less impressive number of powerups and really this fight is in the bag with Wario. Looks like Wario is going to eat the penguin for lunch.

oooooh right you guys want a verdict click this - too bored and uninterested to do more, will return to making full-length stuff when a match i like is coming but until then good day to y’all
RadioactiveCaffeine
Ta-daaa! It's that Mario guy again, back to vehemently defend his favorite video game series.
Lucky for me Wario should win anyway. I'll try my best to keep the reasons why as simple as possible to avoid people from wanting to skim past me.
First, before getting into stats, it's worth pointing out Wario should definitely scale to Mario. He fights him all the time, even if it's through spin offs like Mario Party. Not to mention Mario and Wario both draw from the exact same power source, that being the stars they were born with inside them. Mario himself also logically scales to Rosalina who, in Mario Galaxy, shields Mario from the big bang and implies it's not the first time she's had to do so either, because of her being able to explain and aware of the universe's constant cycle of death and rebirth.
While Rosalina may have been a God tier in Mario Galaxy, that game is over a decade old, and long since has she appeared in multiple games where Mario and Bowser have scaled to her and even fought her. She canonically appears in Super Mario 3D World where the bosses, including Bowser, all pose an equal threat to her as they do to Mario. There's also the fact that she fights against both of them, including Wario, in Party games, which usually have stories that any character can feasibly be the main hero of. Given everyone's competitive nature to prove that they're the superstar, Rosalina also has no reason to hold back against anyone.
Now in terms of the speed, Wario is still definitely outmatched. However, it's not that large a difference, the piece of the Jamba Heart Dedede dodged puts him at about 97.8 quadrillion times the speed of light. Rosalina's best reaction feats from steering her own Comet Observatory to the center of the universe are 73.5 quadrillion times the speed of light, which by scaling to Wario, only makes Dedede about 1.33 times faster.
In terms of strength and durability, Wario takes the cake by a large margin. Kirby can survive the outer explosion of a blast that eclipsed multiple galaxies and only be KOd by it. Wario however can not only survive a feat on a similar scale in Party, but will end up tanking it as well, should he fall into the epicenter of the black hole. On top of this, Rosalina's feat of blocking the big bang is astronomically even higher, considering the big bang is responsible for the creation of the universe, which is comprised of about 200 billion to 2 trillion galaxies taking our observable universe into account.
Lastly, any hopes of Dedede using his minor speed advantage to use hax on Wario falls short when Dedede has no hax actually capable of killing Wario. Closest thing is his transmutation from inhaling, but it also only lasts a second. His mind hax is all very situational, and requires Wario to be watching a TV for some reason. His Heart powers have implications of requiring the opponent to be far physically weaker than Dedede and even assuming it works, it doesn't make Wario compliant to killing himself or randomly tossing himself towards danger. Not to mention Wario's own mind manipulation is implied to be a natural ability, with a kingdom wide range.
So, while I love both of these fatty fatty 2 by 4’s, Wario is going to give Dedede a rotten day.
Bloxxer
Before I get to my verdict, I really want to take the time to thank Strunton for allowing me to be a part of this blog.
Truth be told, I never wanted this fight to happen. I’m slowly warming up to it now, but so god help us we should’ve gotten Bowser vs Dedede.
Now, where were we… my verdict. The fight more or less depends on what is given for Wario and Dedede.
- If we were to not scale Wario to Mario or the rest of the crew, then Dedede clobbers the ever living shit out of Wario
- If we were to scale Wario to Mario, then the result goes, way too much into the favor of Wario
- Use both at their maximum potential. Take what I said about the second one and take it on a much grander scale.
Of those three, I see DEATH BATTLE! operating under the second one the most, meaning I will be under the assumption that Wario will overthrow the King. Not very far fetched either.
Already being Mario’s physical superior, Wario should reasonably scale to the man himself, and he has enough reasonable counters to Dedede that would prove dangerous and / or fatal. Dedede is obviously faster, even at their peaks, but speed isn’t very helpful when you’re probably only a few decimals faster than your opponent. On top of that, Wario’s hax is probably his biggest advantages in the fight. Whatever Dedede has, Wario can either counter it or has it, but even better.
- Dedede’s hypnosis requires a TV to use it. No seriously. Wario’s hypnosis, on the other hand, appears to be natural, and it has affected an entire kingdom.
- Friend Hearts wouldn’t work in a bloodlusted situation like Death Battle and wouldn’t work on Wario either. It could work on Wario, since he’s not pure evil, but he would have to be critically injured for the Friend Heart to work, which isn’t happening anytime soon with his absurd durability. Even if Wario was incapacitated by it, you can’t just use the hearts to just outright kill somebody with it.
- Wario can literally just make Dedede eat shit by farting while he attempts to inhale the CEO
- Dedede Dolls work like JoJo stands; any damage taken by them will reflect back onto their user; this isn’t any different for Dedede and the dolls. No point in using them.
- Everything else, Wario should have a counter to, but just to keep this conclusion brief, since it’s 1 AM right now, I’m not going to list all of them.
- Lastly, this has been mentioned already but by the fucking pope, however you want to look at it, Dedede cannot harm Wario permanently. Wario’s healing factor is ridiculous; up to the point where he can become a pile of ashes, get melted into a puddle of liquid, any of that. It also doesn’t help that Wario by all technical means can’t even die either, since he can just buy his way out of death.
And that concludes my TED Talk. These two are very fun characters, and while they both have their shots at winning,
Monday is gonna be quite the rotten day for the King.
MarioGMan25
I’ve been a big fan of these 2 since childhood, though Wario holds the victory for being the man with the win here. It’s almost a sort of… Immovable Object vs. Unstoppable Force. Dedede holds the unstoppable force, Wario being Immovable. Dedede seems to have the edge in attack but Wario is borderline invincible, and perhaps can outlast Dedede’s onslaught until he can go in for the kill when he’s out of energy… that and… The waft is also a good counter against Dedede trying to eat him. Wario also probably holds the speed feat on the ground while Dedede takes to the air. I’m curious to see if the fight will go beyond the cage or not. Plus if Goodstyle is brought in (though… he is TV exclusive), Wario has been given a LOT of variety in terms of power here, Dedede doesn’t have that luxury unless his minions start throwing useful things into the ring. WARIO GONNA WIN!

THE TIME HAS COME AND SO HAVE I HOLY FU-
……...
oh uh joker is pretty cool I guess onto the fight
Alright gonna try and make this brief, Dedede is uhhh kinda fucked. With scaling from the other Star Children, who Wario should certainly be comparable to, Wario is LEAGUES stronger and more durable than the King. Speaking of durability that might be Wa's biggest advantage here, Dedede...doesn't really have many ways to put him down for good. I mean the guy's been smashed, split in half, burned to ash and still somehow regenerates from it almost instantly. A speed advantage ain't gonna help Dedede out much when he's facing a guy he's gonna struggle to scratch let alone kill. So um yeah Dedede is Dededead-
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
JJSliderman
MMMMRHRHAHAHAHA...PENGUINS.
(Man I can’t wait ‘till they put Beyblade characters on the show in about 3 years or so.)
Anyways before I start, obligatory thank you to Strunt and everyone else here for allowing me to work on this. It was kind of a slow process, but I like to think that makes it all the more rewarding in the end.
So, I’m sure you’re probably expecting me to try and pull something out of nowhere that no one realized in order to make it so Dedede can take the win here. Well...that depends. A large part of this fight I feel is where the characters are going to be placed. Mario characters in Death Battle have been sort of all over the place, and Kirby is kind of a hot mess in and of itself. So before I get into the nitty gritty, I’m gonna list all the possible scenarios that I think could occur for this fight in terms of Wario and Dedede’s general power placements.
Scenario 1: Wario’s best feats are only his direct ones without scaling to any characters, and Dedede’s feats are identical to Kirby’s from Kirby vs Majin Buu
In this scenario, I see Dedede taking it handily. Destroying planets outright is a fair bit more impressive than the Shake King’s blast, and Death Battle has outright said that Kirby moves faster than light, while they placed Mario at Massively Hypersonic with possible FTL speed. Dedede’s general advantage here gives him the win in this scenario
Scenario 2: Wario is scaled to Bowser’s black hole feat from Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Mario’s reaction speed, while Dedede is scaled to Kirby’s feats of busting a planet and moving just above FTL
In this instance, Wario’s physicality (including speed) would be so much greater that Dedede can’t do much of anything, especially when I get into talking about Dedede’s abilities later. So yeah, point to Wario.
Scenario 3: Wario only has his direct feats, while Dedede is scaled to Kirby’s cosmic tier feats.
Take what I said about the last scenario and flip it. Except the speed advantage would be much greater.
Scenario 4: Wario scales to Bowser’s black hole feat, and Dedede is scaled to Kirby’s cosmic tier feats.
Again, point to Dedede. Kirby is one of the most consistently powerful MSS verses ever, teetering on the edge of galaxy busting, due to Claycia’s feat of creating Seventopia, Magolor’s feat of destroying a portion of Another Dimension, Dark Mind’s feat of creating an entire road of stars, and while slightly dubious, Dark Nebula’s feat of creating a starry backdrop and Drawcia’s feat of turning a large portion of the galaxy into paint. Comparatively, the SMG2 Black hole feat, while impressive, is on the lower end of the spectrum. Also, again, Dedede would be much faster, although not by too much.
Scenario 5: Both characters at their maximum potential
And here, the tide shifts back to Wario. Mario characters are consistently capable of displaying feats on a universal level, namely with the Megabug, Sammer’s Kingdom, and Rosalina universal reset feats, and Wario can scale to all of these by scaling through Mario via being his physical superior. By contrast, no direct feat in the Kirby series even comes close to that. Sure, there are some statements of Kirby having “Infinite power” or the Master Crown having “limitless energy” or Void Termina “ending all tomorrows”, but that’s just it, statements. The best actual direct feats are either Dark Mind creating his starry road in his death throes, or the Master Crown destroying a portion of Another Dimension (not the whole thing, seeing as it reappeared in Star Allies). Dedede is still faster, but you’ll see why that isn’t really as notable later. So yeah, Wario takes this one.
So averaging it out, Dedede takes three categories, and Wario takes 2. So by probability, you’d assume Dedede would take this. But it’s more about judging which scenarios are most likely in this case, and those are probably every scenario except for the last one, which makes it relatively even. But for the rest of this prediction, I’ll use the characters at their maximum.
So, with that, Wario already has a huge AP and durability edge over Dedede, while Dedede takes speed. So can Dedede’s abilities make up for that? Well…
First off, there’s Dedede arguably best ability against Wario: Friend Hearts. If Dedede were to toss these at Wario, there’s a good chance Wario would be incapacitated and unable to fight Dedede. However, there’s an issue with this, in that Dedede actually cannot hurt his ally once he is friended (not that he really could, given the stat gap), so the only ways Dedede could kill Wario are by either slowly killing him via environmental hazards (which is not really feasible), or by unfriending, which turns the friend into a power-up. You could argue that the Hearts wouldn’t even work against Wario, which is half-true. They probably would work, but in order to make them work Dedede would have to physically beat up Wario and get him into a vulnerable state and...yeah, you see the issue here. So with that said, Friend Hearts are sort of not gonna work.
Insta-Monster Mixture? That would just make Wario stronger and deadlier, and there’s no guarantee he would fight for Dedede afterwards, so that’s out.
Star Spit? Dedede’s version from Smash Bros. isn’t permanent, and the one in the games can be resisted by strong enough characters (which Wario definitely qualifies as). Dedede also doesn’t have an equivalent of Kirby’s stomach dimension, so simply eating Wario isn’t viable either.
Dedede’s vehicles? Sure, they’re better than Wario’s, but none of them have anything that could even put a dent in Wah.
Hypnosis? Hard-countered by Wario’s better hypnosis.
Waddle Dee Army? Yeah, summon some fodder enemies that Wario can beat in a single hit, that’s gonna be real helpful.
Boost Orbs? The speed ones are irrelevant since Dedede was already faster, the attack and defense boosting ones still don’t put Dedede close enough to Wario, and the invisibility, invincibility, and fire ones only delay the inevitable. The only one that would really be essential is Cashgrabber to screw over Wario’s Greed mechanic, and even then Dedede can’t take advantage of the after-effects.
The Kirby Printer? It just prints out weaker Kirbys without the ability to inhale, removing the one thing that might have made them effective against Wario.
Delightful Dreams Pillows? Sure, they’d give Wario nightmares, but it wouldn’t kill him unless he ate one of the Noddies inside, at which point he’d sleep forever. Maybe some would count that as a death, so this might be one of the very few ways Dedede could not die here.
Dedede Dolls? Dedede feels the same consequences they do, so this would really hinder Dedede more than anything.
Microtizer? Even shrunken, Wario would still be far more powerful than Dedede, and it would just turn him into Mini Wario, who would eventually turn back into regular Wario upon being hit with the specific environmental hazard.
Dedede’s electrical powers are countered by Wario’s, Wario and Dedede’s bombs counter each other, neither Dedede nor Wario can inhale the other, and Dedede’s mechs are countered by Wario’s DK Mech and Power Suit. So, really, the only ones that would truly benefit Dedede are the Dreams Pillows (which he doesn’t have anymore), and Friend Hearts (which he can’t utilize effectively). Compare this to all the ways Wario has of insta-killing weaker enemies (which Dedede definitely qualifies as), Wario’s magic and transmutation, the numerous capsules and candies he has from Mario Party, his battlefield control via fart clouds and sticky boogers, and his ridiculous regeneration making it hard for Dedede to actually kill him, and Wario just seems to have a lot more of the smaller advantages in terms of abilities.
Intelligence I’d say is about even, with maybe a slight edge to Dedede due to his ability to create his massive machines and more effectively manage his kingdom compared to Wario managing his microgame company, but it doesn’t make too much of a difference here.
Finally, looking at their transformations, Wario takes the edge again. While both Dedede and Wario have a lot of situational forms, Wario’s situational forms are actually feasible to use, whereas half of Dedede’s require being possessed by Dark Matter, which isn’t exactly gonna happen here. And even then, transformations like Masked Dedede and Dedede Kaiju, while substantial in his world, are just small potatoes to even Wario’s base form, while Wario’s transformations give him a degree of versatility and unpredictability that Dedede just can’t compete with.
So with all these facts laid out on the line, it’s pretty clear to me that, at their maximum, Wario simply dededestroys the penguin king. Dedede’s only major advantage is speed, and it’s simply not enough given that Wario takes pretty much everything else, and by a landslide too, and his ways of ending the fight are a lot simpler than Dedede’s. Does that mean Wario is going to win the Death Battle? Can’t be sure, since it really all depends on what they give the characters. I suppose I’ll just say that Wario wins anyway, although if Dedede does take it I won’t be surprised. If Dedede were to win, the best way I could see it happening is either Dedede getting cosmic tier Kirby scaling and Wario scaling to the SMG2 black hole feat at most, or Dedede tricking Wario into eating one of the Delightful Dreams Pillows with a Noddy inside, assuming that permanent sleep equates to death. I’m not fully sure on that.
Hey I made it this whole time without mentioning Jok-
Fuck.
(I haven’t quite worked my way up to meme verdicts yet, I think. At least I had more to talk about.)
Unserious Sam
Hey! Wasn’t I supposed to come back when a Wabbit was one of the fighters?
Close enough.
So yeah, the two lovable greedy assholes who are meme material. Been waiting for SO LONG just to see Wario and another Kirby character to appear.
Anyway, let’s get into it.
In terms of abilities and powers, I don’t really think there’s much to say. Not because they have so little or anything. Quite the opposite, really. It’s just that Dedede and Wario both have a surprising amount of variety that not many people know about, whether through manga, anime, or spinoffs, they both have a lot that surprisingly goes toe to toe with each other.
Wario can inflate his (surprisingly malleable) body like Dedede, both have forms of elemental manipulation, Dedede has ways to reduce Wario’s money supply etc.
However, I’d argue that Wario has a slight edge in this category. In terms of technology, Dedede likely has more given the variety of saturday morning bad guy gear he gets in the anime, but some of them just tend to be very situational (I.E Dedede’s hypnosis which came from TVs he stationed across Dreamland, while Wario just naturally has hypnosis that he used to take over an entire kingdom). In general, I’d say that Wario’s variety of magic, items, and transformations should be enough to overtake Dedede’s arsenal.
Now in terms of Stats.
I’ve already ranted long enough about Mario Stats before, so I’ll just say that Wario should definitely scale to Mario (fights him several times, in the manga he beats up Mario and Luigi at the same time) and Bowser (Gave Bowser a black eye on accident). This should allow Wario to compare to at the very least Bowser’s Black Hole feat. This wouldn’t even be out of the question either, given how the Black Jewel had transformed Wario’s castle into a dimension with several visible stars in it. There’s also the Sammer Kingdom destruction and the Lumas rewriting the universe thing, which Wario would also probably scale to in this case but that’s beside the point.
Feats like scaling to the Millenium Star should also make the fat man a speedy fat man as well.
Now for Dedede, it’s rather simple, really. Keeping up with Kirby means he’ll scale to Popstar’s Punch, Galactic Nova’s destruction, Marx who has shown capable of destroying planets, etc. There’s also the Dreamstalk collapse that he directly tanks. There’s also several SS-MSS arguments like Dark Nebula’s battlefield transformation and Claycia’s creation of Seventopia, which I don’t take too much issue with.
And in terms of speed, the even fatter man has feats like keeping up with The Warp Star or dodging the Jamba Heart, which make this fat man even faster than Wario (Trillions-Quadrillions c VS Higher Quadrillions c).
So basically, while the Triple D takes the speed, I just think that Wario’s abilities/arsenal, as well more consistently higher feats to scale to, would give him the edge against the Triple D
However, I’ll just also add some slight input about what I expect from the episode, just because I can.
Dedede is definitely taking speed, no question. In terms of feats they’ll probably bring up at least the stuff from Kirby VS Buu (Dreamstalk collapse, Kirby’s planet punching), so I expect a Planet and FTL-MFTL Dedede at least from the episode.
For Wario, however, I expect them to not take too much stock in Wario scaling to higher feats like Bowser’s Black Hole scaling (which I’d disagree with but that’s beside the point), and probably cap him off at the Shake King’s explosion (which we know they see as legitimate given Mario VS Sonic). And no WAY they will give Wario speed in this. Period. So basically, they scale Wario to Bowser’s Black Hole feat and he might win the episode, but otherwise I think the episode will go with Dedede.
But yeah, my verdict is a little shorter than I expected, but I feel others have gotten the points I’d make across well and in more detail. Basically, while I’m not sure if he will win the episode, I expect to be boosting this out of my window when I think of this matchup, as Wario should be the Super Star in this fight.
ThankSwalot
To make this brief, Wario has an edge over Dedede in almost every way. He’s stronger, tougher, way more experienced, has regen that Dedede will have a hard time to overcome, and even resurrection if that regen isn’t does get beaten. Dedede should be faster, but it isn’t significant enough to where Wario can’t hit him at least once, especially with his larger arsenal which can catch Triple D off guard. In the end, I’m thinking Wario has what it takes to defeat pengu.
Brobuscus
Ok, this is a thing.
Not gonna lie, I was pretty indifferent to this fight’s announcement at first. Before this, I was on the side of the community that didn’t want this fight to happen, but nowadays, I’m more open to it. Although that could just be because Wario’s had 3 other chances to get in and all of them were taken from him(granted the first two were instead matchups I still liked, probably even more). He’s definitely been overdue, probably the most overdue character until now. So it’s just cool to see him featured.
Even cooler given that he should win this one.
I would say that Kirby fans are gonna throw shade at me for saying that, but for one, I really don’t care, and two, if they really weren’t accepting of people arguing against Dedede, they most likely wouldn’t be reading this far down.
For those of you who do read these despite one or more of us not having the same mindset of a matchup’s outcome as you, you are an awesome person who deserves a thumbs up.
Anyway, on to the nitty gritty.
So since this is a decently divisive debate, I feel comfortable going more in depth than I have with the other blogs I did verdicts for this season.
Strength
Both are insanely strong, but there’s so many different levels I’ve seen both be put at. The lowest I’ve seen for both that isn’t blatant downplaying is at around Small Planet Level-Large Planet Level for both. Mostly just because of different viewpoints for the scaling they get coupled with their own direct feats. The highest I’ve seen is Universal for both, but I’m definitely not buying that. I’m also unsure about whether or not to scale Wario to Mario, Luigi, or Bowser, but the argument is there. Then there’s the issue of Star Children scaling. Oh boy, the discussions had about this one. From what I‘ve been told by someone, the Star Children all draw power from the same energy or something like that. And considering the scaling is to a fodder Yoshi, not the real one everyone knows and loves, I feel more comfortable accepting it than not. This puts Wario at Large Star Level, which is about where Dedede rests as well if you scale him to Kirby, which I see even less of a reason not to than with Wario & the Star Children. What tips this category for me is that Large Star Level is Dedede at his maximum potential and scaling him to someone he doesn’t get one-shot by, but doesn’t necessarily beat either. On the flip side, Large Star Level for Wario is scaling to a fodder, and it’s likely that he’s a good bit better than that Yoshi. So while I’m not sure which feat the two scale to is better than the other, just off of the circumstances, I say Wario takes this category.
Speed
Alright, so this is gonna be a nightmare. I’ve made it clear during the Mario VS Sonic blog, but I don’t believe in scaling Mario to Rosalina. And my thoughts have not changed in the slightest since then. And since I’m on the fence on scaling Wario to Mario as I mentioned before, I’m definitely not feeling scaling Wario to Rosalina either. So I’m looking at this from his other feats as well as scaling I’m more comfortable with. Wario is solidly faster than light, given that he’s outpaced black holes, but not only is Dedede also faster than light, but he’s on a scale that’s much higher than Wario. The Warp Star is an insanely powerful vehicle, and not only has Dedede kept up with this thing, but Kirby is able to pilot it with no sign of slowing down, and Meta Knight is able to keep up with it too. Dedede may not be technically as fast as either Kirby or Meta Knight, but he’s still perfectly able of keeping up with them. So Dedede wins the speed department. And pretty handily too.
Durability
Going off of direct feats, they’re both pretty even. Wario survived being in the epicenter of the Shake King’s suicide attack that dispersed clouds that spread around the world, and Dedede survived the same planet busting explosion that DB gave Kirby in his old Death Battle. Dedede’s is probably slightly better, but I don’t really know.
Going off of scaling, Wario gets the same fodder Yoshi constellation feat I mentioned earlier, and Dedede gets the scaling to Kirby. Both are around Large Star Level, but to repeat what I said about their strength, Dedede’s stuff is scaling to high tier people, whereas Wario’s is scaling to fodder. So again, Wario takes this category.
Hax
This isn’t a contest. If you’ve been reading this far, you’ll see that Wario has a surprising amount of hax, including mind control and insane regeneration, capable of healing from ashes. It makes me wonder even with even power and durability, how is Dedede gonna kill Wario? If his healing took a while or wasn’t as strong as it is, then I could see Dedede win with his greater speed, but it doesn’t take very long for Wario to regenerate from the stuff he’s been through. As for the mind hax, we know Dedede gets mind controlled a lot, so it’s an easy thing for Wario to exploit. So combine Dedede not being able to kill Wario for good, as well as a weakness that’d be easy for Wario to exploit, it all comes together.
Conclusion
Honestly, that last point kinda seals the deal. If Dedede were stronger and tougher than Wario on a decently big scale, I would say he would win. But given that, from my perspective, they’re strength and durability is roughly even, with Wario having a more likely advantage, and that Wario’s hax are as broken as they are, especially against someone like Dedede, I’m convinced in my pick
Wario is the winner here.
Important Announcement
Endgame is pretty good go watch it
This one was good, but I am really not liking your feats from the Mario Party series. I just feel they are too different from the Mario series.

DeleteLooks like DeDeDe took the peng-WIN!
ReplyDeleteYeah... thankfully most of you were wrong in this one. Here's the thing, Dedede's scaling to Kirby and his cosmic level vilains is actually reliable. Even in the most recent Kirby games, he fights evenly with Kirby and occasionally helps him defeat universal and even multiversal threats in the case of Void Termina. On the other hand, Wario's only dirrctly fought Mario once outside of the manga. Since then, he's been humiliated by him and Bowser multiple times. And don't even get me started on Rosalina scaling. I honestly agree with Death Battle saying that Wario being comparable to Rosalina is vague, ill-defined,and just requires a shit-load of assumptions which can easilly be written off as game mechanics. That's really odd considering this fan-blog usually has better logic and research than the actual show. Oh well. Keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteScaling to Rosalina… You guys are better than this. Also, I got a troll on tumblr who cited this ass a reason why the fight was "biased" and told me to kill myself because he was throwing a temper tantrum over the result.
ReplyDeleteHe then ignored this blog when it came down to Ben 10 vs. Green Lantern.
This blog sure age well.
