Death Battle Predictions: Venom VS Crona

Symbiosis: a partnership formed between two living organisms often made to the benefit of both parties. As a relationship that best embodies the idea that two beings are better through the sum of their parts rather than individually, it has allowed several dynamic duos to reach heights never before seen and accomplish enormous feats of power, especially if you’re somehow mentally unstable to no end. For our next set of combatants, they’ve achieved just that and more; the unions these characters have formed with their partners - literal living weapons at that - have made them ultimately capable of rendering entire hordes of their foes to shreds:

Venom, the bloodthirsty Lethal Protector and ex-archnemesis to Marvel’s Spider-Man. Crona, Soul Eater’s introverted Demon Sword Master and partner of the Black Sword, Ragnarok. Eddie Brock and his trusted symbiote are making their return to the Death Battle arena searching for their newest prey, and the scion of Medusa Gorgon, along with the embodiment of their weaponized blood, is ready to strike back. In the next episode, these gruesome twosomes have a score to settle soon enough to determine whose unholy union is ultimately stronger together; which of these deadly alliances will eventually be met with the most unfortunate of fates?

A Quick Heads-Up From Ya Bois

Just some very quick housekeeping for clarification. Since Eddie Brock is the most well-known host of the Venom symbiote, we’ll primarily be taking a look at him as the primary incarnation of Venom for this battle. That said, we will try and take feats where applicable from other hosts of the symbiote in addition to other symbiotes that Eddie had bonded to in the past. Also, just in case you’re one of those folks who still remembers Venom as “evil (but not really) Spider-Man” and has no idea what has happened in the past couple of years:

As for Crona, we do want to note that they’ll be composited between the Soul Eater manga and anime, the latter of which diverged from the original source material near its end. As the manga came first, Crona’s analysis here will tend to lean towards that for the most part.

And yes, we’re using “they/them”. Don’t be a dick about pronouns.

Background

Venom

“Eyes, lungs, pancreas... so many snacks, so little time..."

Aspiring photojournalist Eddie Brock moved to New York City from his original stomping grounds in San Francisco with simple aspirations: make a reasonable living, uncover the truth and maybe prove himself to be someone his father can be proud of. He seemed to have things under control for the most part, but one really foul day ended up turning his life upside down in ways he could not have known at the time. In his attempt to report the identity of a rampant serial killer, Eddie became a laughingstock when Spider-Man managed to catch the real killer while he was pursuing a cold lead. Things go south fast; Aside from Daddy Brock disowning him, Eddie loses his job, his marriage, and his professional reputation all within a matter of days, and in their place, he develops an unhealthy hatred of the webslinger for ruining his life and taking away everything he held dear.

Eddie would soon find an ally of sorts in his vendetta against Spider-Man from an unlikely source. At the time, the web warrior found himself bonded to a black alien symbiote that enhanced his physical capabilities, but also corrupted his mental compass and drove him to become more aggressive and violent. Seeking to rid himself of his new suit, Spider-Man travelled to a nearby church and used its bell to remove the symbiote from his body before it permanently bonded to him. In an attempt to find a new host, it bonded with a suicidal Eddie over their mutual hatred for the hero, not only granting him powers similar to Spider-Man’s, but making him superior in all aspects in addition to giving him the wall-crawler’s secret identity: Peter Parker, a photographer for the Daily Bugle and an old acquaintance of Eddie’s.

This united front made it their shared goal to ruin Peter’s dual lives by becoming the twisted mirror image of Spider-Man, with a new name to boot: Venom, dubbed as such by Eddie due to all the “venom” he was forced to write for as a struggling tabloid journalist since his fall from grace. For years, Venom and Spider-Man battled each other to no end, but it was here that Peter learned more about his recurring archnemesis. Deep down, he knew that Eddie had similar intentions to his own; with the power the symbiote granted him, Venom genuinely wanted to do his part and become a hero who could also defend the innocent and downtrodden in society, even if his more brutal methods implied otherwise and with the symbiote’s more malevolent impulses demanding on a daily basis that he give in to its twisted will.

Eddie and the Venom symbiote have often times been separated from each other over the course of the following years - the former going through multiple other symbiotes and the latter through different hosts - but even with that time spent apart from each other in addition to differences in their philosophies, their combined efforts and power have only served to make them the ideal pair for each other when evil runs rampant and a more lethal brand of justice has to be enforced. With a strong desire to fight his inner demons in order turn into a better person, even going so far as to make his peace with Spider-Man and become one of his most trusted comrades, Venom has taken his rightful place as one of Earth’s mightiest anti-heroes, ready to devour cowardly villainous scum wherever they may lurk and keep the peace in his own way.

Crona

“I don’t think I can deal with this right now.”

When they were a toddler, Crona was the test subject of an experiment performed by Medusa Gorgon, their mother. The aforementioned experiment led to the creation of Black Blood by melting down the Demon Sword Ragnarok and transfusing it into Crona’s body. From there, Crona was subjected to various forms of torture, including the likes of killing small animals, Ragnarok’s bullying, and their mother’s ruthless punishment. This experience essentially destabilized Crona’s mind, turning them insane and becoming the ultimate weapon for Medusa’s plan of world destruction.

It wouldn’t be until years later, after several destructive battles with members of the Death Weapon Meister Academy and others, that Crona would meet Maka Albarn. Unlike many others that they had met, Maka was the first person to treat Crona as a person instead of a monster or an experiment. This kindness from her led to Crona starting to become less insecure and a more positive person, eventually joining the DWMA after a tour around Death City.

This peace would not last, as Medusa would ultimately trick Crona into abandoning Maka and Death City. Forced back into doing “experiments” for Medusa, Crona regressed back into an unstable state and went on to slaughter several people in Ukraine. Crona’s instability reached its boiling point when Medusa, for the first time in Crona’s life, displayed motherly love to them. Not knowing how to process this, Crona broke down and killed Medusa. This completed the Black Blood within Crona, allowing Medusa’s ultimate goal to become a reality: Crona could now absorb the Kishin and plunge the world into madness.

After one final parting with Maka in the same church in which they met, Crona departed to the moon and absorbed the Kishin Asura. Unfortunately, Asura regained control when Crona’s will faltered after seeing the bond of family that Maka had with her father. Trapped within Asura, Crona questioned everything and expressed their regrets for everything that had built up to this.

Shortly after, Maka came to Crona’s rescue, having plunged into the Kishin itself. Reaffirming their friendship, Crona revealed that the Kishin could not be killed, instead deciding to seal themselves away with Kishin Asura on the moon using their blood. Maka promised to return one day to save Crona, and Crona proceeded to lock away the Kishin, ending the madness.

Equipment

Venom

Symbiote

Once simply known as Spider-Man’s Black Suit, the Venom symbiote belongs to a race called the Klyntar, whose origins actually date back as far as the beginning of time. Knull, a progenitor god who opposed the expansion of the Celestials, created the first symbiote: All-Black the Necrosword; with it, he sliced off the head of a Celestial and used it to forge more with which he commanded hordes of to enslave civilizations and kill gods that opposed him. This continued until Knull’s connection to the symbiote hivemind was severed by Thor, who defeated the dragon-like symbiote Grendel in medieval Earth. Ashamed of their previous roles as deity-slaying conquerors, the symbiotes rebelled against their creator by trapping him on their namesake planet Klyntar.

Since then, the Klyntar have attempted to re-establish themselves as a race of honorable and altruistic warriors who aimed to bond with noble-hearted warriors. This came with issues, as bonding with hosts that were of a foul nature subsequently corrupted the symbiote’s own into being twisted and violent. One such symbiote - originally used by the Kree as a weapon against the Skrulls - found itself left to die by its own kin on the Beyonder’s Battleworld, where it forged a bond with Spider-Man. After a period of time wherein he wore the symbiote as his primary costume, Spider-Man forcibly separated himself from it after noticing its toxic influence on him; the symbiote would later join forces with Eddie, leading to the birth of Venom.

Besides Eddie and Spider-Man, other noted hosts of the Venom symbiote included the following notable characters:

  • Mac Gargan: Better known as the Scorpion, Gargan bonded with the symbiote as a way to attain more power in exchange for killing Spider-Man, and later joined the Dark Avengers team assembled by then US President Norman Osborn. Gargan’s tenure as Venom was rather lengthy, and ended when Osborn’s defeat resulted in the group’s disbandment and both he and the symbiote were separated by the military.

  • Flash Thompson: A US Army Colonel and Peter Parker’s former high school bully, who also held a deep appreciation for Spider-Man. After losing his legs in Iraq, Flash was bonded to the symbiote as part of the Army’s Project Rebirth 2.0, becoming Agent Venom. In contrast to other hosts, Flash’s run as Venom was that of an unambiguous hero, with several cosmic-based adventures as a liaison of the Guardians of the Galaxy.

  • Deadpool: Theorized to be one of the main sources of the symbiote’s insanity, Wade Wilson supposedly bonded with symbiote while on Battleworld before it encountered Spider-Man, and even supposedly returned to Deadpool prior to bonding to Eddie Brock for the first time. (This is treated as dubious canon depending on which author you ask: current Venom author Donny Cates does not officially recognize Deadpool as a prior host in any of his works.)

  • Other temporary hosts the symbiote bonded to include Carol Danvers, Drax the Destroyer, Rocket Raccoon, Groot, Red Hulk and Superior Spider-Man.

Crona

Ragnarok

In the world of Soul Eater, people are bound to sentient weapons that can take physical form. The wielders of these are referred to as “weapon meisters”. For example, Maka Albarn has a living scythe named Soul. Crona is no different but their weapon is actually pretty unique. It's a demon weapon named Ragnarok, which was melted in a pool of black blood and mixed with Crona’s blood in a sort of forced symbiosis. Ever since, Ragnarok spends his days bullying Crona whenever the chance presents itself, though having a demon on your blood has its perks.

For starters, Ragnarok is a weapon, and will manifest itself as a long sword for Crona to use which gives it a few unique abilities.

Ragnarok can also grow wings, allowing Crona to fly. Should Crona be knocked unconscious, Ragnarok can fight for crona, using the black blood as a weapon.  Ragnarok can further evolve by consuming souls.

Black Clown

An artificially made clown (physical embodiment of madness) made by medusa, this creature shares some of her abilities and was made to fuse with Crona to bolster their abilities.

Before fusion, crona could summon this creature at will, and it is capable of fighting by itself.

Made entirely of black blood, the black clown is capable of the following abilities:

Swords

Ragnarok and the Black Clown become blades for Crona to wield, totaling 3. Crona is extremely proficient at using all three at once, using a “three-sword” style. All three blades are made of black blood, as such scale to Crona’s strength and durability. Crona can also channel scream resonance through all three blades.

Kishin

The kishin, Crona fuses with this embodiment of fear. Refer to forms for abilities Crona gains from him. For abilities that might be exclusive to Asura himself, refer to here.

Abilities

Venom

Biomass Manipulation

Using the biomass of the symbiote, Venom is able to shapeshift any part of his body into any object of his choosing, like bladed weapons and shields. This also extends to his various ranged attacks.

Tentacles

Venom can manifest tentacles in order to attack his opponents at a distance. He can manipulate the size and shape of these tentacles to the point that they can be thin enough to avoid a laser grid. Venom also has extremely impressive range with these tentacles being able to extend to an entire city block. He can also use it as a surprise method in order to catch his opponents off guard. Venom can create a duplicate of his body parts using his tendrils in order to fool his enemies and create traps for his opponents.

Shields

He can create shields in order to protect himself and his allies. These shields can be detachable or simply use his biomass in order to protect people.

Flight

Eddit can use his biomass in order to create giant wings, allowing him to glide and fly in order to move around the battlefield.

Venom Fang

Venom’s teeth are extremely poisonous and can affect the body to a molecular level to the point that Sandman was unable to reform himself properly, and was even described as being “poisoned by a bite from Venom”.

Psychic Shriek

The Psychic Shriek is a scream of absolutely agony that can cause a considerable increase in depression over a range of one thousand kilometers. This Psychic Shriek can also reach symbiotes in another star system, and force them to commit mass-suicide. As Venom has shown better resistances both to a symbiote’s natural weaknesses as well as mental attacks, he should also be capable of resisting this to some extent.

Size Manipulation

Venom can manipulate his size and mass through various ways. He can manipulate his hands in order to create large spikes or razor sharp claws. He can also enlarge any part of his body  as well as completely flatten his body so he looks like a costume or reduce his size to that of a spider symbol

Genetic Memory

Klyntar symbiotes often retain the genetic memory of their hosts, even going so far as to copy powers learned from them. Given its long-time connection to Spider-Man, it has been influenced enough to utilize many of the powers he uses; combined with its previous augmented physicality, this has often led to Venom being compared to as Spider-Man’s superior when the two would directly clash.

Webbing

Venom doesn’t have natural web abilities or web shooters. Rather, he manipulates his biomass into makeshift webs to emulate those of his friendly neighborhood rival. In terms of how strong Venom’s makeshift webbing is, it is strong enough to carry several loads of bricks as well as restrain the likes of Peter Parker and Miles Morales. In terms of weaknesses, the webbing decays when Venom is further away from it

ESP

While Venom does not have Peter Parker’s Spider-Sense, he does have something close to it that is commonly called ESP. This allows the symbiote to scan nearby areas and alert Eddie to any threats he can easily react to. He can use his tentacles to extend the range of his ESP to a fair distance. Also, due to its prior bonds, Venom and his kin are notably immune to the Spider-Sense itself, making Peter’s life even more difficult.

Camouflage

The symbiote can also disguise himself as normal everyday clothing for Eddie to wear out in the open, and can even turn invisible for stealth attacks.

Regeneration

Part of what makes Venom’s durability stand out is the symbiote’s impressive regenerative abilities, as it allows him to survive all sorts of lethal blows, including attacks directed towards vital organs and having body parts severed. He has tangled with the likes of the Hulk and come off no worse for wear, tanked rapid-fire bullets, anti-tank missiles, an exploding power plant, electric shocks and repulsor blasts. This extends to non-physical attacks too, as Venom can purge diseases and toxins from his body; the symbiote was even responsible for curing Eddie of cancer at one point.

Mind/Soul Protection

Venom’s symbiote has allowed its host to withstand attacks on their mind and soul far better than they otherwise would. It tanked Ghost Rider’s Penance Stare, which directly targets a person’s soul and mind, when bonded to both Eddie and Flash (Pictured above), with Carnage implying that Symbiotes naturally resist it when he was hit by it. Venom also took a trip to the Realm of Insanity and was literally too mad for its madness to affect him.

Codices and Hivemind Connection

(Disclaimer: This was introduced a year after Venom fought Bane in his first Death Battle appearance, and is one of the biggest X-Factors for him heading into this episode, so we do encourage a read.)

Even after a host is separated from its symbiote, a trace part of its genetic code is kept lingering within their bodies, with the express purpose of sharing host information with the larger Klyntar hivemind. These Codices can be forcibly extracted from their hosts,

usually through killing them, although non-lethal means exist. At which point, a symbiote can temporarily gain access to that particular host’s memories and abilities until it is burnt out.

While these copied traits are temporary, they also lead to a permanent boost to the symbiote’s power by increasing its connection to the hivemind. The more Codices absorbed, the stronger the connection becomes, and thus leads to a more powerful symbiote. As of this writing, Venom possesses one of the strongest connections due to his absorption of almost every Codex available to him on Earth.

Crona

Black Blood

Created by the wicked witch Medusa Gorgon, Black Blood is a synthetic fluid that is actually not that different from normal blood in terms of looks and function. However because this is anime, it means it's actually weaponized. The black blood in Crona’s body can be manipulated in almost every way they desire. It can be hardened to block attacks and stitch up wounds, it grants a pretty potent healing factor and immense strength, and can be bent into any shape the user desires, either be spikes, waves of energy, shields, etc. Interestingly enough each drop of blood Crona sheds will move on its own and attack.

If the black blood enters somebody else’s bloodstream, it can affect them with something called “Madness of the Black Blood” which can turn regular people erratic and reckless. However, although it is a powerful tool, sufficient damage will be able to break it, and attacks that can bypass normal defenses can hurt Crona internally, special attacks can also disable the black blood temporarily.

Black Blood can be used defensively and offensively by Crona in different variations:

Offense

Defense

Mad Blood

Those who are swallowed by madness… swallow madness… melt into madness… and harden with madness.

—Crona, Chapter 87

Mad Blood is an evolved state of the black blood exclusive to Crona. Crona releases a wave of Black Blood that engulfs and melts the target. The blood then hardens, trapping the soul of the victim and exposing it and anything that touches the blood to madness. This madness can bypass immunity, as it completely overcame Maka’s anti-demon wavelength and drove Soul Evans insane. Mad Blood can be used on a single target, or encompass a whole city. Crona can also use this ability to forcibly absorb someone, assimilating them and gaining access to their abilities.

Wavelength

Wavelength is the “sound” of the soul. This wavelength is amplified and channeled through a weapon. Crona channels their wavelength through Ragnarok, and possesses the wavelength of madness, manifested through their black blood. This wavelength can shut down the user’s own fear, allowing them to fight without restraint. Crona's own wavelength eventually becomes powerful enough to crush the wills of people. Due to the nature of the wavelength, Crona’s attacks with Ragnarok could be considered spiritual attacks as well.

If Crona’s link with Ragnarok is spiritually interrupted, it can cause rejection with their black blood

Thorn

Thorn is an ability Crona gained after absorbing Asura. Anyone touched by the thorn will be infected by Crona, severing spiritual bonds between people. This even cancels out abilities designed to counter madness, such as soul’s melodies. Crona can also use these as barriers or for killing blows.

Screech Resonance

When a meister and their weapon’s souls achieve the same wavelength, they form a sort of recursive loop known as Soul Resonance. This generates a massive soul wavelength that allows the meister in question to perform far stronger techniques. However, Crona’s is a bit… different. See, Crona’s wavelengths are artificially matched up to Ragnarok’s thanks to Medusa’s experimentation, and rather than soul energy, the energy released from their resonance is sound. During Screech Resonance, Ragnarok starts intensely vibrating to the point where even being in contact with him can inflict damage. Crona also gains access to several powerful techniques:

Crona’s scream eventually gained enough range to encompass the moon. (which is smaller than the irl moon)

Soul Manipulation

Besides being able to imbue their spiritual wavelength into their attacks, Crona can absorb hundreds of souls at once to become stronger, though the soul must already be outside of the body of the victim.

Crona can also physically harm souls with their swords (cut a ghost)

Resistances

Crona has shown resistance to attacks on the soul (which increased as the series went on) and to madness. (was perfectly fine in Asura’s presence)

Through Asura, Crona should be able to resist things such as organic intrusion or possession. Asura was able to weaponize his internal sea of Black Blood to fight off Maka and Soul, who intruded his body. Maka and Soul only managed to enter his body via using their Black Blood to connect with his own. They also only survived inside due to all the souls of their friends, Soul using his melodies as a counter (with assistance from Crona), and an amp from Soul Resonance that cost Maka all of her own Black Blood in the process. Death the Kid and Black Star also had to distract Asura from the outside, while Crona used the Brew inside. (magical empowerment device)

Black Clown/Madness Fusion Crona

The fusion of Crona and the black clown, this form enhances Crona’s stats and gives extra arms and blades for extra combat options. Crona’s black blood is further bolstered, giving access to the Mad blood, and Crona now has an exterior layer of black blood for extra defense. Crona also should have access to the abilities of the black clown, which include vector arrows and evaporation.

Asura Crona

This form is simply Crona after absorbing Asura. Crona gets a massive stat amp, now capable of overpowering Black Star in raw strength. Crona’s screech abilities have been enhanced, now capable of crushing the minds of weak willed people instantly. Crona also gets access to the thorn ability, which can sever spiritual bonds (when Maka and Black Star were exposed to it, it severed their spiritual connections to their weapons). The thorns are also capable of negating abilities that can restore spiritual connections (Thorns touching Soul negates his melody).

Asura’s Madness

After fusing with Asura, Crona inherited his madness. Asura’s madness is passive, and affects both sane and insane alike. It causes hallucinations (1, 2, 3) and even distorts reality, making a myth of Atlantis rising become real, and spawning an army of “clowns” (physical manifestations of asura’s fear). They will keep regenerating from nothing so long as they are spiritually connected to Asura (though this requires some genetic material to remain initially, such as ashes). While Crona never used these abilities before Asura took over, Crona did mention they would use Asura’s variant of madness to infect the entire planet.

Asura’s madness can also bypass basic resistance, as it influenced Justin, who was trained to resist madness. Even while sealed, Asura’s madness can make individuals near him attempt suicide.

Asura himself is capable of taking over if Crona’s will ever were to falter, and is immortal as his existence is tied to the fear of humanity. So long as humanity has fear, asura will remain.

For a more in depth explanation of this form, refer to here:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/18lZ9Jhq80PzJ1BghXGdhscrMZuHQPK-6Q5scKrzzDHk/edit?usp=sharing

Kishin Crona

Gained in the final two chapters, Crona is transformed into a Kishin (same species as Asura). In this state, Crona’s Mad Blood is enhanced, now capable of sealing away Asura on the moon. Crona also gains a connection with “the need for a mother” within humanity, which manifests as The Madness of Boobs, a passive field of madness that encompasses the planet. This makes all humans obsessed with breasts, and bypasses immunity (shown with full power Death the Kid and Maka).

Being a Kishin now, Crona should have Asura’s regen, though tied with humanity in a different way (motherly need/want).

Feats

Venom

Overall

  • Has repeatedly fought against and alongside Spider-Man, who he is often considered to be superior to

  • Besides Eddie Brock, the Venom symbiote has managed to successfully bond with other different hosts, including Spider-Man (who served as the basis for most of its powers), Mac Gargan (the former Scorpion), Lee Price and Flash Thompson

  • “Fathered” many of the Marvel universe’s symbiotes, and has proven to be capable of beating them despite often being portrayed as weaker

  • Eddie himself has bonded with about seven other symbiotes - the most known for any Marvel character; these include his stints as Toxin, Anti-Venom and Carnage

  • Successfully managed to kill Knull’s avatar, at the cost of leaving the Venom Symbiote brain-dead

  • Using the Legion Codices, murdered Dark Carnage (Cletus Kasady using the Grendel Symbiote)

  • Had a temporary stint as a vigilante when he returned to San Francisco

  • Obtained a boost in power by absorbing the Legion Codices, connecting to the Symbiote hive more than he ever had prior

  • Throughout the Venom symbiote’s existence, it has held membership claims with the Thunderbolts, War Avengers, Sinister Six and the Guardians of the Galaxy

Power

Speed

Durability

Crona

Overall

  • Is the only person to become a Kishin besides Asura

  • Defeated Maka in their first encounter, requiring Stein to save her life

  • Overwhelmed Kid in their fight and destroyed the Nidhogg ship

  • In their second fight with Maka, pushed her to her limits and her use the madness of black blood for the first time

  • Saved Maka from certain death, while fighting Medusa and Stein (anime only)

  • Covered an entire city in Mad Blood

  • Killed Feodor and Tsar Pushka, top soldiers of Death

  • Brutally killed Medusa

  • Absorbed Asura and the book of Eibon

  • Forced nearly all of death’s soldiers to retreat from the moon with just a scream

  • Overwhelmed Black Star and Maka at the same time on the moon

  • Sealed themselves and Asura on the moon

Power

Speed

Durability

Weaknesses

Venom

Venom shares most of the Klyntar’s pre-existing weaknesses to fire and sonic-based attacks; while the symbiote’s immensely powerful regeneration has insane upper limits and can keep Venom alive for long periods of time, these two specific sources can drastically weaken it to the point where it must forcibly leave Eddie and gather its strength before returning to fighting condition. That said, it’s a weakness with varying effectiveness, with Venom having documented instances of having survived powerful fire and sonic attacks without being incapacitated.

Beyond that, Eddie is not known for being a strategist. He and the symbiote are prone to bouts of recklessness, such as when Eddie ignored the threat of Knull’s arrival in favor of killing Carnage immediately. While rare, Eddie and Venom’s thoughts don’t always line up perfectly. This has led the two in the past to split from one another in order to pursue what they perceived as the best thing to do.

Crona

Due to Medusa’s continuous abuse over the years, combined with a lack of exposure to a proper setting for a child, Crona is mentally unstable. Crona has difficulty dealing with new stimuli (such as making friends). Their instability would reach its peak after murdering Medusa and collapse upon being shown what a healthy family is. Despite this, Crona is still fully capable of fighting, shutting down all conflicting emotions with the madness of the Black Blood.

Attacks to Crona’s soul interrupt the link between Crona and Ragnarok, weakening Crona, though Crona has since gained resistance to this. Should Crona have a mental breakdown when absorbing someone, the affected party might be able to assert control, though this may have been due to the Black Blood the absorbed victim had (Asura had much more black blood than Crona). Additionally, the Black Blood armor can become overcome with sufficient physical force.

Summary

Venom

"We are the fury of this red-drenched city. Clothed in the armor of an avenging legion. This ends with us. All of us. Because we're stronger when we're together. And together... we. Are. Venom."

Advantages:

  • Should be faster regardless of whether or not his current stats are used

  • More experienced

  • Regenerative and healing abilities allow the symbiote to keep Eddie in the fight for prolonged periods of time

  • Could likely resist Crona’s soul hax and Asura’s passive madness hax

  • Statstomps if his current incarnation (post-Absolute Carnage) is used

  • Eddie and his symbiote have a stronger bond

  • Bisexual icon

  • Made up with Spider-Man and now they're BFFs

Disadvantages:

Crona

“I'm tired of hating myself all the time, and I'm tired of betraying the people I care about, and most of all... I'm sick of being some tool for you to use.”

Advantages:

  • Far more powerful and durable if Venom isn’t getting current stuff

  • Dominates in range and AOE

  • Screech Resonance can exploit Venom’s weakness to sound

  • Generally has much better hax and abilities than Venom

  • Far superior regenerative and healing abilities, which make it difficult for Venom to kill them

  • Androgynous icon

  • The Madness of Boobs

Disadvantages:

  • Slower, regardless of Venom’s current stats being used or not

  • Less experienced

  • Venom can likely resist their soul and madness hax

  • Statstomp is reversed against them if current Venom is used

  • Bond with Ragnarok is unstable in comparison to Venom

  • Rabbits

  • They can’t deal with this

  • The entire youtube comment section is going to be “haha crona like corona funny”

Verdicts

Another Heads Up from Ya Bois

We’re not going to sugarcoat this, dear readers. Someone is going to be on the receiving end of a curb-stomp battle here, and the only thing that really determines who’ll be giving the stomp will be whether or not many of the absurdly powerful feats Venom has gained from Donny Cates’ run will be accepted. To save you all time and keep the space here clean, we’ve prepared some supplemental reading for you guys: a document containing arguments for and against using Venom's current incarnation.

Reason why the doc exists is because we’re not entirely sure ourselves what’s being considered for Venom at this rate, so the arguments you see there mainly rely on comparing this situation to Death Battle’s current rules and past trends we can call upon. We hope you’ll have this on hand as you go through our verdicts in hopes that it’ll also help you make an informed decision about who you think will take the episode come Sunday.

Now, sit back and relax.

Ramen

(my head hurts)

tl;dr idk how a match like this was capable of so many fucking twists and turns

Anyway, this verdict was gonna be a tad longer but because of said twists and turns I’m just going to condense my thoughts in something a bit more compact.

(This is going to assume Venom is getting Cates stuff as per our argument doc, I’m not gonna bother repeating every point, the whole gist is that there really isn’t a reason why it shouldn’t be included in the episode at all so might as well give Eddie his herald stats.)

Right off the bat, Venom reverses the statstomp people have assumed Crona would have given him. Since he scales to a whole new tier of folks that defy his previous placement as a street level character - reminder that such folks now include Iron Man, Thor, Ghost Riders and the Hulk, Venom is multiple factors stronger and faster than Crona to the point where he should realistically one-shot before they realize what’s happened.

To put it in perspective, Crona’s best destructive feat of covering a city with Black Blood and destroying it would yield 20 or so gigatons, and scaling to Black☆Star puts them capable of relativistic speeds. By contrast, through fighting Virus’ modified War Machine armor, we can scale Venom to Silver Centurion!Iron Man destroying the Manhattan-sized rock, which Death Battle themselves calculated to be about 200 teratons. That’s already a 1000x advantage Venom has off one of the lowest possible scaling examples we can give him since a few names we’ve mentioned are planet busters and above. Even without Cates, there’s a bunch of rela street level Marvel speed feats that give Venom the edge he needs to surpass Crona’s own, and adding Cates makes it worse with MFTL scaling; ergo, statstomp.

Even the hax that were touted as potential aces in the hole for them aren’t really going to work out well, since they’re countered pretty cleanly:

Ragnarok would have abused the symbiote’s weakness to sound, but at the same time, Venom has recorded instances where he’s powered through such attacks without incident and even fought off foes who have equipment specifically designed to abuse such a weakness.

Crona weaponizing Asura’s Madness of Fear could drive Eddie to suicide, and for a while we thought this and their regen would have been enough to let them come back and defeat Venom despite the stat gap, but that isn’t much of a case anymore. Not only has Venom (and Carnage, for consistency’s sake) survived a Ghost Rider’s Penance Stare - an attack on the mind, soul and body that meets the same criteria as the Madness of Fear, but he’s also no sold being trapped in an astral plane of absolute madness, which again fits the same mold but to a much greater degree. This pretty much makes a suicidal Venom - one of the only ways Crona could have legit killed him since it doesn’t require stats on their part - a very improbable scenario.

Even Crona’s Kishin regeneration has its limits, as while they can regenerate similar to the Clowns for as long as the Madness of Fear exists, the regen only kicks in when there’s genetic material to grow back from. Simply put, all Venom has to do to bypass that is simply eradicating Crona until they literally cease to exist and have nothing left after to get his kill and the win. By contrast, while his regen is inferior to theirs, the large stat difference means that they have no reliable way to remotely damage Venom, much less actually kill him.

Overall, Crona’s hella powerful and I’ve no doubt they would’ve annihilated a couple of their other major matches (*cough*Shiro*cough*), but when Venom simply cuts off every avenue they can take to secure a win… well, idk what to say just have this

(also from a very base sentimental level eddie i’m begging you win this)

Phantom Falcon

(Should’ve been Nui smfh)

Not my preferred idea for Crona, but I kind of expected this to happen, and hey, if Venom did have to come back, I’m glad it’s against Crona, it’s the best idea for him if he did imo.

Anyways buckle up friends ‘cause this’ll be a ride

To start off, I’ll be using Cates’ current run for Venom. No reason for it not to be used, it’s his current base and they used Unmoored Wally, which came out after Absolute Carnage ended. Though the same applies to Crona Asura, it’s a permanent fusion that’s standard by EoS and is essentially their base form. So we’re going in this with both at peak performance, and the entire blog was a fucking rollercoaster with this lemme tell ya. This’ll be explained in 4 parts

Part 1: Everything was so simple. No Cates’, no hax talk, just the basic “Crona AP and dura stomps, can absorb the symbiote, exploits its greatest weakness, has better regeneration, etc”. Everyone lived in harmony...until the dreaded reminder of Cates’ was brought up

Part 2: Cates’ was brought up, and everything was a mess. It didn’t come down to whether who wins with or without Cates’, because that’s a fucking no brainer. It’s whether or not DB would even use it. For a bit, I thought they would only use Cates’ for lore, nothing else. However, the preview came out and showed Venom with the sword used to kill Dark Carnage and the wings he specifically gets due to his connection to the hive mind, and I was fucking scared. It was then, that me and Cyber made a comeback

Part 3: After looking more into Asura and realizing Crona should receive the permanent fusion with Asura they got, Crona’s abilities made this one hell of a debate. They had low godly regen, a constant army of clowns with low godly regen, and passive madness manipulation. The latter is ultimately what tipped me over to team Crona even with Cates’. Crona/Asura’s madness hax can bypass multiple layers of resistances/immunities. Venom no-selling the Penance Stare is nice and all, but it doesn’t bypass quite as many resistances as Asura’s madness hax does, meaning that I thought it could work. As shown in Venom’s preview, Symbiotes can in fact be driven to suicide, so I thought there was no reason why Venom would be immune to it. While eventually the regeneration wasn’t quite as good as we thought it was, the passive madness hax ultimately made me side Crona overall

Part 4: Then all my hopes and dreams went down the drain because of Venom the Madness, where Venom is so insane he’s immune to a literal astral plane of reality, thereby making Crona’s wincon negated

I swear these past 2 weeks have been a fucking ride. So where does this end us off on?

So yeah, realistically Venom should clap vía stats and being able to resist Crona’s madness hax. I was one of the biggest advocates for Crona here, and while I’m very happy me and Cyber made this quite possibly the most back and forth and debated matchup this season (credit to Loka from the wiki for the meme lol), I can’t let my bias cloud my judgement. It’s honestly a real shame. Despite initially rooting for both, after finishing Soul Eater, I came to overall prefer Crona by a pretty good amount, and they’ve quickly become one of my favorite characters in fiction, period. Soul Eater definitely has a lot of flaws, mainly with the ending for both sources, but I still loved my time with it. The colorful cast, creative and vibrant environment, well done storytelling, awesome fight scenes, and some powerful moments that really pull on your heartstrings makes it without a doubt one of my favorite anime/manga of all time. It’s a great time all throughout, and I highly recommend it. I’m truly glad I was able to experience this wonderful series.

Btw the G1 blog fucking bullied me two weeks straight I hate them

Spider-Pidge

(Scott Pilgrim’s back let’s fucking gooooooooooooooooooooooo)

So this blog’s been a fucking trip.

Goes from Crona stomps Venom due to having abilities that hard-counters and being way too strong/tough for Venom to do anything, to me coming on-board and Venom soloing the verse because Cates’ run made him a herald tier in his current base which made even War Machine scaling enough to take a free w, to Cyber bringing up potential passive abilities Crona could’ve gained from merging with Asura that included regen that was nearly impossible to overcome and a passive madness hax that could make people kill themselves, to Venom unanimously winning again cause the regen wasn’t as good as the blog initially thought, and because Venom took a trip to the madness dimension and was able to casually overcome it in a book literally titled Venom: The Madness.

Venom: The Madness

Can’t even blame anyone for not looking there to find it, took me four days to and I only did it to look for something completely unrelated lmao. We all played bad ggs.

So yeah uh, frenby dies sad to say. Current Venom killed Dark Carnage, who murdered a Ghost Rider and laughed off hits from Hulk, fought the Grendel Symbiote, whose earliest feat is literally surviving a lightning strike from Thor, and kicked the shit out of Virus, who literally uses War Machine parts in his armor. Any of those is enough to sweep the verse AP-wise, and the speed scaling means Crona is nowhere near fast enough to hit Eddie with any of their attacks.

Then we get to hax-based abilities and once again, Venom ultimately comes out on top. Venom’s taken enough sound/vibrational attacks to resist Screech Resonance solidly enough despite the weakness, and is more than fast enough to avoid it or Crona’s attempts at just melting the Symbiote down. Venom’s speed also lets him take care of Crona’s regen, since he’s faster than they can regen by a significant amount and can even destroy everything that remains of Crona before said reformation just due to that stat gap. And again, madness manip doesn’t mean much when Venom’s tanked similar soul and mind manipulating powers before and ended up fine.

Wish this was more in-depth (And it kinda was before like half of it became kinda outdated lolrip) but, honestly there’s not much to really say beyond arguing if Cates’ run should be used, which we already have a whole doc for. Venom is simply far stronger, faster, tougher, and more resilient than Crona can hope to overcome.

Really wish we didn’t have to watch the good enby die to see a Venom W though :(

I’m a bit unsure on how to feel about this fight. When Crona was announced, I didn’t really know who they were, but as talk surfaced, I had secretly hoped to some degree that Venom would be their opponent. Eventually, that faded and I didn’t really care, but now that it’s back… I don’t really mind.

Anyways, I’m going to keep my verdict short for now. Originally, from what I heard, I thought Crona would win the fight, but I kept hoping to myself that Venom would somehow find a way to win… and guess what, he has through Donny Cates, the same guy who amped both Thor and Silver Surfer to multiversal and not just regular multiversal, like really high multiversal, like skyfather, complex multiversal. Anyways, Venom got amped to herald! Multi-solar system to universal stats. Fighting Dark Carnage who scales to Thor… fun.

Crona’s dead. Like, they’re definitely dead. Venom was already that one street-tier character with a bunch of scaling, and even when you took it into context, it still made little sense. Taking hits from Hulk and Juggernaut, that’s just insane. And then you have Carnage’s feat of being torn in half by Sentry and surviving atmospheric reentry… which, at that speed would result in you know what, but lmao, he survives anyway (Sentry has a kink of ripping people apart).

Crona does have a better healing factor but with Venom’s stats via his connection to the hivemind, a single punch would result in vaporization and that’s not something Crona can heal from on a general basis. Absorption is a potential wincon but Venom would literally be quintillions to septillions of times faster via herald scaling and even without it, he should be a good 3 to 5 times faster but since herald-tier Venom is currently standard, the former is more likely and it would result in a blitz on a horrendous degree. Venom also has some great hax like shapeshifting, possession, and some psionic abilities. He resists Crona’s madness manipulation via resisting both soul manipulation and madness manipulation (via the Penance Stare and Realm of Insanity respectively) and with it… there’s really no way for Crona to win. Just by using herald tier Venom, this becomes a stomp on a level even Rogue VS Wonder Woman can’t compete with. Venom is going to ragna-rock Crona’s soul.

(Ghost! Come in, this is Price! We're under attack by Shepherd's men at the boneyard! Soap, hold the left flank! Do not trust Shepherd! I say again, do not trust Shepherd! Soap, get down!)

In the CoD mood rn and this image is going to be me when I watch this fight

So anyways, uhm, where do I even begin?

For one, it’s good to be back, and two, Winter Soldier vs Red Hood was dope. Even as anti-climactic as the killshot was, everything else about the fight was absolutely astonishing and I’m glad to see Ismahawk has stepped up their game since Nightwing vs Daredevil.

Now about Venom vs Crona… egh. I was absolutely not happy when this matchup was announced at RTX. 3 comic book characters in a row, seriously? I’m fully aware that none of this is under RoosterTeeth’s fault, but damn this is already getting annoying fast. On top of that, one way or another the comic characters all won.

And I expect for it to be the same here in Venom vs Crona.

Debating this has been an absolutely brain aching 2 weeks and most of it has legit boiled down to “Is Eddie getting Cates or not?” With the preview, which blatantly shows panels from the aforementioned comics, I fully expect that he will, in which case Eddie is too strong and too fast for Crona to deal with.

And once you’ve finished reading this conclusion that I wrote at 1:00 AM in the morning, Venom will be the winner. And this will be society if Cates didn’t exist

Clockboxxer

HAHAHAHA! NOTHING BAD EVER HAPPENS TO THE SYMBIOTES!

I was on a Clone High craze this past week bare with me here

Black goo is stored in the brain and brutha, I got one hell of a headache

Red Hood vs Wint-I mean, Winter Soldier vs Red Hood was a pretty good fight. The analyses were admittedly barebone and the character comparisons were...odd, to say the least. But that battle was leagues above Nightwing vs Daredevil. Tyler did what he could, but I do think he didn’t quite capture the character like Tom Neff did with Jason. And Kerem Erdinc slayed as Batman and Joker. All in all, big props to everyone involved with this episode, glad it finally happened.

Now that we’ve got good ol’ Wally and Jason back to back, I think we can stray away from the comic pages and reach for the controll-

RTX happens

oh.

In all honesty, I should’ve seen this coming. Venom 2 was scheduled for this year, it was a predetermined fate. Not a fan of getting 3 Marvel/DC in a row, but I can’t blame the team for it given all the schedule shifts. However, I do think Crona should’ve fought somebody else. Given that the popularity of their other opponents pale in comparison to Venom, though, yeah, I was dreaming. As with any episode, I’m gonna be positive. Venom is a sick ass character, Crona’s got some cool stuff, and the animation looks pretty promising so far.

Anyway, this debate has been way weirder than expected. It went from “oh Marvel dies again” to “oh nvm Donny Cates” to “oh? Asura and low godly regen?” to “oh nvm Venom: The Madness and low godly regen isn’t legit”

Simple as it gets, I think Venom should and likely will get his current incarnation in Donny Cates’ run, for the reasons posted in that document. Crona getting Asura is a situation that doesn’t really have a precedent in DB, but I see no problem with that either.

With all this, Brock oughta be taking the win. He blitzes and one-shots. He has no problem dealing with madness, and despite Crona’s great healing factor, all he needs to do is make sure there’s nothing left of them to regenerate from. Not too hard with such a big AP gap.

There are some bit advantages like more experience and Ragnarok being an unstable asshole, but the bottom line is Venom should win by just being an absolute powerhouse. How many victories will Soul Eater have after this? Ven-none.

Real glad that Marvel could get the opportunity to win 2 fights in a row. Haven’t had that in...a while. Black Star’s a fucking G, though, get him in here.

If we just get Crona smacking the cheeks off of vanilla stats Venom, Imma be sad but whatever lol

BTW STEVE IS IN SMASH BROS DUIHIUSHIUHJIESHJIWEHDIHEIDHEIHIHEIHSI LETS FUCKING GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Joshski

(This is eternally burned in my mind whenever I think of Soul Eater music and I don’t know if that’s a good thing or not)

NGL while at first, I was pretty disappointed that this ended up being Crona’s episode, I’ve warmed up to the idea a little bit, though I still really fucking hope we can move away from Marvel and DC for at least a little while (please for the love of god give us a video game fight) I think my least favorite thing about this episode though is probably the debate for it...or more accurately the lack thereof.

As you've already heard multiple times in this blog and are gonna hear even more when you scroll down from here, this is a stomp fight no matter what you go with. If you don’t use current Venom, Crona stomps via vastly superior strength and ability to exploit Venom’s weakness to sound. If you do use current Venom, he wins thanks to being a fucking Marvel herald which is uh quite a tad bit above Crona’s pay grade, and if that somehow wasn’t enough he’s also able to shrug off sonic attacks specifically made to fuck over symbiotes.

Honestly, the only real debate that matters here is if current Venom should be included. I mean it’s simply a one-time buff that will go away in a few months right? It’s a completely different power set for Venom that makes him a completely different character right hahaha? To keep it simple, Wallyhattan this is not, and you can read the doc above to see why that’s the case.

While a part of me has a gut feeling it won’t be included for whatever reason, I really can’t see a reason why it shouldn’t, and unfortunately, with it, Crona really doesn’t stand a chance. Soul Eater will probably be able to scoop up a W later on, but for now, I believe the victor or victors should be Veno-

Man if only past me had any idea what the fuck this would turn into

I don’t think anyone expected this fight to become whatever the fuck it did but here we are. To say this whole debate went into circles would be a complete understatement with the debate going from over whether they should use current Venom, to it being practically confirmed in the preview watch this age horribly tomorrow, to Crona possibly edging out with their low godly regen and madness manipulation, to Venom surviving a literal dimension of fucking madness and it being found out Crona actually needs genetic material to regenerate. Essentially we’ve looped right back to “lol Venom one-shots” only now Eddie just needs to hit them a wee bit harder so that there’s nothing left.

It will never stop being funny how this whole thing started with Crona stomping and now it’s Symbi-oh fuck no they don’t.

Grandbull

Better than Nui, but not as good as shiro

Tbh i wasn’t expecting much from this fight debate wise but holy shit was i wrong. This debate went from a stomp in Crona’s favor to a stomp for venom. Its cable vs booster all over again. And if you're wondering why it has to do with a mix of absolute carnage and venom getting boofed to high heavens. To where he actually scales to heralds now. But then more stuff came up for crona having low godly regen. So crona went back to stomping. And now that’s basically bunked. TBH its just been a fucking wild roller coaster this past weak. And honestly. I have no clue who will win. Mainly because it's super close. But if you put a gun to my head and forced me to choose, I would pick venom. Mainly because of higher stats and better resistances. Looks like Crona got ragna rock’d. The winner is Venom

Js250476

(Not a Symbiote but a black spider I’m extremely hyped for

So Venom vs Crona not one I was hoping for Crona’s opponent or really wanting Venom to make a return but I still wanted to give this idea a chance and after seeing a preview of what’s to come it’s shaping up to be a fantastic fight and featuring fantastic characters so I went into this expecting this to go similarly to the last time a Symbiote fought a pink haired anime character

Only this debate ended up being one of the most insane roller coasters of a debate I have ever seen with the constant back and fourths going between to ether Venom or Crona for various reasons it got to the point I almost didn’t end up making a verdict at all because choosing either one proved very difficult but after enough time has passed I managed to wrap my brain around this symbiotic showdown to decide on who I think should win.

Now if this was done in the past Crona would destroy Venom no contest. Far more powerful AP, durability, much better regeneration, better AOE and range, can take advantage of Venom's weakness to sound Ect so on a surface level sounds like a no brainer right?

Well many myself included forgotten all about Venom’s new lore and history Marvel had made since 2018 and it throws a wrench into everything we thought about this match prior. Essentially it introduced codecs and the Symbiote hivemind making Venoms current base a herald tier in Marvel and unlike most big comic book powerups isn’t non standard or one time used it’s current base Venom. Spidey as always becomes the most relatable superhero ever to the audience with his reaction to the shenanigans Venom’s now involved with

And with all this in mind I decided there’s no reason Venom’s current level of power should not be used and because of them Crona sadly stands no chance at being able to compete with them. He’s killed Dark Carnage who laughed off hits from The Hulk and killed a Ghost Rider, fought the Grendel Symbiote which survived a lightning strike from Thor. Even with the lowest interpretation of the power of these characters puts Venom far beyond anything in Soul Eater in strength and speed rendering most of Crona’s advantages a non factor even withstanding sound attacks from a Iron Man armor, essentially Venom was looking like this to this at the fights results the whole way through (several times even.)

And even with Asura and being a Kishin giving Crona extremely broken abilities that could definitely help them they ultimately are still not enough to win here. While the regen is extremely impressive it’s not as potent as initially thought and requires enough genetic material to keep going which Venom is more capable of obliterating Crona’s entire being with one hit. And the passive madness manipulation while extremely effective will not do much good against Venom due to not only tanking the Penance Stare several times but by literally no selling the effects of an entire realm of madness (because comics everybody.)

So as awesome as both characters are and sad to see Crona lose after everything that’s happened under these circumstances (seriously both characters are so tragic, sympathetic, well written and compelling it’s really hard to not root for either of them) in this scenario the winners are Venom

Oh yeah and Steves in Smash Bros and Sakurai broke the internet what a historical day this will be.

Until next time.

The Draconic Hero

Venom vs Crona, huh? So, a spiritual successor to Lucy vs Carnage then. And...likely with the same results. My heart goes out to Venom and my best friend, but you’re tackling the non-binary nutjob that fucks with the moon. Venom doesn’t exactly have anything for fighting against that. If it wasn’t for the symbiote’s love for Eddie Brock, it might have a chance to possess Crona to survive, but I doubt DB will give a cop-out like that. Crona is packing not only serious power against Marvel’s lethal protector, but Venom doesn’t have nearly as much hax as Carnage, meaning the symbiote stands less chance against pure obliteration than his red hued counterpart.

...which is what I would be saying if not for the Cates run. Like my fellow bloggers said: we aren’t sugarcoating this. This is a stomp. But at least this one is a stomp in Marvel’s favor. Venom has consistently punched in the bracket of Juggernaut and the Hulk, which potentially safely puts him in the same weight class as Crona. Even Crona having the weakness advantage doesn’t necessarily secure a win for Crona. Ganon Vs Drac is a good example of this. Ganon had a holy sword, but Drac was just way WAY too much for him. In a few scenarios, this could work in Crona’s favor, but a majority of the time, the pink haired meister is going down.

Even with everything that’s been added over the past few days, to me, this still looks like Ed boy’s win. Let’s assume they were both even in terms of stats (unlikely but given how much this debate has pingponged, it’s worth a mention) Well then we’d be looking at a Venom that resists most of Crona’s hax, Eddie and his symbiote are more cooperative than Crona and Ragnarok, and while sound will be a problem for Eddie, Crona’s own mental instability may prevent liberally taking advantage of it--since they don’t know it’s a crippling weakness at the start--and Venom’s regeneration will keep them in the fight just long enough to eat Crona’s brains.

What else is there to say other than Crona made their last meistake trying to Ragnarok Venom’s world and will end up Brocked and rolled. (I’m not sorry). The winner is Venom.

SoMaShadow

(So glad that Soul Eater’s finally here!)

Coming off of the second live action fight Death Battle has ever done, it was actually pretty good. Like most of us thought, Winter Soldier took the battle (the crowbar scene was brutal, man), and Jason died for the second time (I was hardcore rooting for him, so that one hurt a bit). Then, RTX happened… the reception on the next one from the fans…

So, Crona’s opponent was finally revealed, and after waiting and hoping for Shiro (my personal preference), or Nui Harime (looking at you Phantom), we got another comic book character in the form of Venom. Third comic book character in a row. I’ll just say that I’m not happy that Venom was chosen as Crona’s opponent, not one bit, but this has been a rollercoaster of a debate, and though it would’ve been so much better as a different matchup, the discussions have been interesting. We’re all getting a bit sick of comic book fights, and something different, but awesome (like Crona vs Shiro) would have been greatly appreciated, and with the lack of video game fights, Jon Talbain vs Sabrewulf would’ve also been hype, but this is what we got instead, so we’ve just got to roll with the punches.

Soul Eater is far and away one of my favourite anime ever, and my gateway into anime itself from stuff like Bakugan and Pokemon, so seeing Crona get revealed last year was just mind-blowing for me, and took me completely by surprise. Seeing Venom make a return was a bit unexpected, but Death Battle doesn’t like to do too many characters from series which aren’t super mainstream, without one really recognisable character to carry the views, and that would be Venom, like Carnage before him, in his fight against Lucy.

And like Carnage vs Lucy, I’m hoping that another Marvel symbiote loses to another insane, pink-haired anime anti-villain, but there’s one glaring problem with that. Donny Cates’ run of Venom. This one run of Venom has made the debate so much more complicated, and thrown everything for a loop. To cut a long story short, I think Death Battle is going to use Cates’ run of Venom, and because of that, my verdict is too.

Keeping things simple, Venom outstats Crona hard with Cates, and without it, is still able to match them in relativistic speeds. Both can fly and regenerate, but Crona debatably has more experience with flight, and isn’t too badly off in terms of maneuverability. Venom is normally around the Kiloton range, while Crona is in Megatons and Gigatons for strength and durability, so if this was non-Cates, Crona would clap, but since Venom fought and killed Dark Carnage, who fought off Thor, and a Venom-enhanced Hulk, Eddie takes strength, durability and speed. And Venom himself has taken blows from Juggernaut and the Hulk before, so this just solidifies his scaling to the herald-level characters. And when it’s a Relativistic, Mountain to Island level character vs a MFTL, Solar System to Universe level character, the battle becomes much more clear-cut.

Crona actually has quite a few wincons besides their stats in a normal fight, like their sound attacks, soul hax, absorption, and surprisingly better regeneration. Crona’s Screech Resonance was able to make the moon bleed (it’s alive and creepy, don’t worry about it), and can harm characters who also have island level durability, so it’s definitely a huge factor in this fight. Venom has powered through sound attacks before, but none of this magnitude before, so it would actually be a very good way to end the fight.

Soul hax in the Soul Eater world is just crazy. You can turn people comatose, disrupt their abilities or connections to others, drive people mad, and much more. Crona is no exception to this. And though they’ve got a lot, it’d be too much to cover, and nothing that can’t be read above, so I’ll keep it short. Crona’s Black Blood + Mad Blood gives them regeneration, and the ability to make people go crazy, and this can also be extended to literally cover a city. Then there’s Crona’s Soul Wavelength and Madness, which should have planetary range after fusing with the Kishin and is able to crush the soul of the target. This also affects people who have immunity to these kinds of attacks, or are already insane, and should prove effective on Venom.

And if Venom tries to go into Crona’s bloodstream, he might get absorbed himself, so it’d be a ricky move, and one that likely wouldn’t end well for the symbiote. And Crona’s regen means that Venom would be hard-pressed to put them down for good under normal circumstances. Key word being normal circumstances. Since Cates’ Venom has tussled with herald-level characters, it further supports the symbiote resisting the influence of Ghost Rider, and when Venom went into a realm of literal madness, they were able to resist the dimension’s effects on them. Surprise, surprise, it makes people go insane.

Not to mention that even though Crona has better regenerative abilities, Venom isn’t far behind, and the symbiote will be able to keep him in the battle long enough to score a fatal blow on our favourite androgonyous child. Also, Venom’s connection to Eddie is much more stable than Crona’s connection with Ragnarok, and due to Crona’s life of abuse from Medusa, they are just as/if not more mentally unstable. And Eddie’s decades worth of experience in comics with the symbiote, and in-universe time with Venom is greater than Crona’s, so he’s got an edge in experience.

Venom’s biggest problem will be getting past Crona’s regeneration, and it could very well score Crona a win, because as long as the need/want for a motherly figure exists in the world, the Kishin (this being Crona), will continue to exist. This is Venom’s one major hurdle in this fight, and why I’m still super hesitant to give Venom the win over Crona, but they have so many other advantages, that I (sadly) can’t just give it based on that. Additionally, Crona still needs something to heal from, like ash, in order for the regeneration to kick in, so if Venom is able to vaporise Crona, then that will be a win for the symbiote. And Venom’s ability to fight with Thor and Dark Carnage means that he should be able to hit Crona hard enough to vaporise them.

So, overall, even though Crona would normally stomp against non-Cates Venom, it’s inclusion turns this whole fight around. But if we just get Crona smacking around regular Venom, I’m gonna be super happy, and I’m sure Phantom will be too. At least Maka stomps Ruby, and that makes me happy.

In this rollercoaster of a battle that I’m sure people are going to resonate with, Venom just ragna-rock’s Crona’s world, making this battle their last meistake.

The winner is Venom.

Basically, Crona wins all of their MU’s except for Venom.

Fuck

Still should’ve been Shiro.

Twice

(Nothing quite like Dark Heroes and Lethal Protectors)

Another Marvel fight, huh? Well, it may be laying on a bit thick right now, but at least it gives me something to talk about. I’ll admit that at first, I joked about Venom being Crona’s opponent because of how predictable and lame it would be. Of course, now that it’s actually happening, my opinion has changed, thanks in no small part to the prospect of this becoming a spiritual successor to the incredible Carnage VS Lucy. Will this episode be able to recapture that lightning in the bottle, or is it doomed to mediocrity? I’m certainly hopeful. And hey, since Death Battle is flirting so much with beloved and iconic Marvel anti-villains fighting lesser-known anime anti-villains, mayyyyyyyyyyyyyybe a certain grandpa and albino cripple have a shot at murdering each other?

First things first: Read Donny Cates’ ongoing Venom comics. Seriously, even beyond all this silly VS stuff, it’s legitimately some of the best storytelling Venom has ever received. It’s not too long of a run right now, has wonderful development, intrigue, great visuals and characterization, and covers some very interesting themes. If there’s at least one takeaway from all this, it’s that Cates’ Venom is fucking awesome storytelling and absolutely worth your time.

Now, that aside, I’ll touch on a few key points here in regards to the power interactions at play here.

Sound? Well, Venom may not be immune, but he’s powered through plenty of sound attacks over the years. Just sound won’t be enough to take the dub here.

Madness? Sounds great on paper, but Venom has somehow shown immunity to similar effects because he’s already too insane. That may not sound consistent with Venom currently, but bear in mind that the Symbiote isn’t really the one who has grown and developed, Eddie is. The symbiote has been manipulating Eddie’s memories in order to get his host to stay with him. That cancer thing that Wiz says is complicated in the preview? Well, turns out Eddie never had cancer. Nor did he have family who died of it. That was, in fact, the symbiote taking matters into its own hands and literally rewriting Eddie’s memories. While Eddie definitely isn’t insane now, it’s arguable whether he ever truly was, at least compared to someone like Carnage. So I do not believe that Venom’s current development will make them any more vulnerable to Crona’s Madness hax.

Admittedly, Crona does still have some powerful tools keeping them in the fight, hence why I hesitate to claim my stake with Venom confidently. The Thorns seem like a hard counter to the bond between Eddie and Venom, and his only real defense for attacks targeting the soul rely on your interpretation of things like Venom handling the Penance Stare and Hellfire. Sure, these all target the soul in some ways, but they’re not 1:1, so I could see arguments going either way.

Additionally, Venom is likely susceptible to being assimilated by Crona. After all, he’s already been absorbed and assimilated before by other symbiotes, such as Carnage. Granted, these are also fairly different cases than the manner Crona goes about doing things, but a vulnerability here at all isn’t great for the dynamic Marvel duo.

Lastly, Crona’s regen is absolutely an issue for Eddie, one that could arguably land him a win with his above hax even if they’re completely dominated in stats. This isn’t really a point I have a good counter to, either.

We have an entirely separate document going over stats and the justification for them, so I’m not going to talk about whether Venom will get it or not. That being said, I do believe that this fight ultimately boils down to said stats more so than either combatants haxes or resistances. Although this is easily the hardest call I’ve had to make for a modern DB episode, I’ll put my chips in on Venom, but not confidently. Crona has a lot of useful hax, some of which I believe Venom has no answer for. Venom should outstat in some instances, seeing how the symbiote has tangled with the likes of Juggernaut even before his recent adventures. It’s a close debate, one that I can see both sides for. While I won’t be surprised at all if I’m wrong, I’ll stick with the dude with the adrenaline momentum, Venom (mmmmmmmmm).

UnknownUser55

Welp, I was not expecting this matchup in particular to be my debut onto the prediction blogs, but here I am. I first want to say that I am genuinely excited for what this episode brings to the table. Venom happens to be my favorite character from Marvel, and I finished watching Soul Eater about maybe two months ago now, and Crona is one of my favorite characters from the show. So seeing two characters I love battle each other hopefully will leave a smile on my face. Being real here, I’m also glad Crona ended up fighting a symbiote like Venom or Carnage and not anyone else; I have absolutely no interest in the likes of Shiro and Kaneki as characters, and I didn’t see them bringing much to the table.

Anyways, I’ll take the time to give my thoughts on Bucky VS Jason. The writing and the editing on the episode were top notch, backed up by an amazing fight, though, the kill lacked buildup and I wish there was more characterization on Bucky’s side. I also didn’t like the approach to the episode in terms of research - there were little to none feats listed, and the verdict’s explanation hardly talked about anything apart from experience and “Bucky being more consistently superhuman”? I don’t know what was up with that. But overall, a very solid episode that has a praise-worthy fight. Seriously, get Ismahawk to do more fights in the future.

So, now with that out of the way, time to get onto the actual fight. Either way, this fight will be a huge stomp, but out of either outcome, I believe Crona will be the victor of this battle as I have the sensation Cates Venom will not be appearing in this fight.

In terms of raw power, Venom does not stand a chance against Crona - who has up to city and island level showings of AP. And since durability will scale to power, this means Venom will barely be able to do much damage to Crona at all, especially when you also take into consideration Crona’s absolutely busted regeneration and black blood hardening.

Eddie sure is faster, and could potentially score a win through possessing Crona, however, it’s unlikely the symbiote will resort to that immediately in a fight before getting absolutely one-shotted by Crona, as well as the fact that Ragnarok is a part of Crona’s blood so he could potentially prevent Eddie from possessing Crona.

So overall, while Eddie has speed on his side, it’s hardly a factor when Crona is just so much more powerful in terms of attack potency and overall abilities.

Hyperstarman

(This can happen in Smash, oh my god I was floored when I saw this reveal. I’m so happy)

So, Red Winter was pretty hype. A massive leap in LA fights and really cool overall, sad to see my boy Red Hood take an L though, but I was satisfied non the less.

But this matchup is very very very interesting, debate wise at least with how this all went down. I was in the minority as this was my most wanted out of all of Crona’s opponents and I’m glad we got the chad Venom back for a new episode. And I decided to invest myself in soul eater and it’s really cool. Crona is awesome and high up there for me, but nothing surpasses the legend that is Black Star. I like both Crona and Venom equally and the interactions and animation potential with this is massive so I’m really looking forward to it.

Now for what went down. Well to put it short, this was a massive rollercoaster of a debate with how back and forth this went, Wally vs Archie was much more tame in comparison and that astounds me. For the longest time everyone concluded that Crona stomped Venom via counters and superior AP. BUTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT, as it turns out Venom has had an interesting run these past two years thanks to Cates. And uh, he’s a herald now and that came to be quite a shock. How far he’s come, god comics are crazy. So he stomped Crona for a bit until the discovery of low godly regen and madness manipulation that let Crona compete with a herald and turn the tide briefly, ain’t that just crazy. But then the regen was discovered to be not as effective as it seemed and that Venom is immune to a literal astral plane of insanity because comics.

This has been confusing and insane but ultimately it comes down to if Cates will be used. And well yeah I think it should be used, no dancing around that, reasons why it should be used are listed in the doc and it was shown in the preview already with the sword and wings. Although Crona Asura should also be used as it’s a permanent amp Crona keeps so both are in their full potential in this regard. So with these stats in mind,  Cates Venom stat stomps hard and the regen isn’t good enough to survive Venom for too long and the madness manipulation won’t do any good with Venom’s resistances. So ye Venom wins when both are looked at their peak.

(Even though I like both equally, I’m gonna feel sad if Crona dies.)

While I’d prefer if Crona took the dub, Venom ragna-rocks the competition and is Croned the winner.

EpicLinkSam

(Symphogear music probably doesn’t fit this fight, but I don’t give a fuck.)

I dunno if this bears repeating, considering everyone else has said the tldr already.

Originally, Venom would have taken a fat L by staying somewhere around the street and town levelers in the Marvel Universe, with only speed as an advantage.

Then came Absolute Carnage and… yeah. Venom’s the only one walking out alive.

In other news, Steve is in Smash Bros.

TexasRoastingOnAnOpenFire (Robin)

(This is going to be an interesting episode.)

I’m definitely going to regret this verdict, but like who the hell would have expected one of the biggest supposed “stomps” to have been the most debatable matchup of the season, and maybe one of the most debatable episodes in the history of the show??? Venom was supposed to get absolutely shit stomped, and well…

You’ll see.

Venom’s stats are pretty simple when you look at his current place in the Marvel universe. He’s herald, no way around it. He’s out here fighting Ghost Riders and fighting Dark Carnage too, so his stats are whatever the hell you put Marvel heralds at.

Hint hint, it’s above even the biggest Crona wank.

Crona should easily be in the city to mountain range depending on the calc for that Mad Blood feat, which would have shit stomped Venom had not been for the new stuff for him. Speed-wise they’re relativistic, which...doesn’t compare to street level Venom (3c) or Current Venom (MFTL). However, what still keeps this a debate is the abilities.

Crona’s hax is great. Madness Manipulation is something they can use to induce suicide, and it’s PASSIVE with Asura absorbed. It even attacks the mind, body, and soul. Their absorption is also pretty damn good too! Their regen is pretty debatable, but even if you believe he can return from ash, like...that’s PHENOMENAL regen right there. I don’t buy anything further than that personally, mostly because Asura or any of his clowns are never shown regenerating from nothingness. Venom’s only hax is possession, and that could be countered if Mad Blood would effect Venom…

Does it?

Venom has straight up lolnope’d the Penance Stare twice, and it shares similar madness inducing qualities as well as attacking the psyche and soul...which kinda implies to me that Venom has an immunity to stuff like that. He’s also survived in the realm of Insanity sooo. That being said, other symbiotes have been affected by similar suicide inducing moves, and THEY didn’t resist them at all. That being said, Venom could just be an exception. Overall, this makes me believe Venom’s stat stomp may just be way too good here for my good little non-binary child to overcome. One punch should turn them into nothingness…

Someone call in Spider-Man, we’re going to need someone to stop Venom once he’s done beating up a poor pink haired child.

Jedi Bender

So Venom is back. Took em 5 years but hey, better late than ever, and we have our first Soul Eater character so that’s nice. Anyway, I’m not the biggest fan of Venom. He’s cool as a

concept, but unfortunately 90s edgelord characters aren’t my favorite. Yeah, he’s gotten better written over the decades; this being said, Venom 2018 is a guilty pleasure for me XD

As for Crona, they’re ok in my book.

Now onto who I’m going for and IMO this will probably be another Lucy vs Carnage on paper. Most think Eddie’s got this in the bag… however, Crona is an anime character who has all of these hax’s and crazy shit regardless if we use recent Venom stats. (On this note, no I don’t think they're gonna get herald.)  Will Venom give Crona a hell of a fight? Most definitely. Alas I’m gonna go ahead and give it to Crona for the win…

(FAIRY BLUE KIMI NO DAME NE-)

AAA IM SO EXCITED

This is my first blog verdict and I can’t thank the others enough for letting me join! Now for a brief introduction, Red Hood VS Winter Soldier was honestly amazing and I’m glad Ismahawk got another episode for his team. Great job with that, y’all, really outdone yourselves there.

Alright with that out of the way, now I can safely say that out of the three Crona ideas I loved (Shiro, Kaneki, and Nui), this unfortunately wasn’t one of them. I grew to appreciate that this idea has a lot of animation potential ahead, but I personally wish that we could’ve gone for something worth a lot more for an interesting, fair, and enjoyable debate cuz hooo boy this blog was surely a fucking ride for a game of Russian Roulette for who wins between these mfs. Now I don’t have a big mind for Marvel, only really enjoy the movies and TV shows and the occasional comics, but man, getting cool and obscure with great connections, yet interesting and resourceful amounts for someone else could’ve been nice. (13 volumes and an anime adaptation for Deadman Wonderland with plenty of abilities and notations to go off of for Shiro, 170 chapters and around 4 anime seasons for Kaneki, etc.). However, I won’t deny this wait period was definitely interesting.

God, where do I start? I guess I should start with Cates’ new series since that was the most relevant thing to keep mentioning in the blog. Now for Cates Venom, after seeing that preview I am almost entirely convinced this means that Venom is indeed gonna be getting everything that he added, and jeez, talk about a LOT of shit to note. With this form Venom has achieved some really apeshit crazy things, and I’d be surprised if they somehow just leave it out. So, with that due, time to dive into what these insanely ludicrous things Venom has done in the wait period, shall we?

To start off, what gifted Venom’s new and improved existence in the first place was a connection to the Hive Mind of the symbiotes, which has been consistently increasing Venom’s strength and stats ever since he got this in his system. This has stayed throughout the Cates run and the only things really contradicting it’s strengths are the obvious heat and sound attacks, though Venom over time has gotten a lot more resistant to it.

Ever since Venom has been taking on characters around War Machine’s level in strength, already has Spider-Man’s speed which you can scale to Daredevil’s FTL reactions, and without the new run still was high-kiloton range and had a lot of uhhh, “tentacles” that possess people, take that as you will. But this is all amped up to 11 with the Hive Mind and Venom has been kicking ass since, and even killed fucking Dark Carnage before. Whether or not you wanna use this for Venom’s power, it doesn’t deny that it is insane, Dark Carnage killed Ghost Riders before! Essentially Venom at a lowball now is multi-continental with resistances to the Penance Stare (soul hax) and can possess things and sooooo much more, and at a highball is multi-galaxy to fucking universal with Dark Carnage and Thor.

I’ve only watched all the anime and gotten some citations from the manga from galaxy chucker Phantom and madlad Cyber, seriously, huge props to these motherfuckers with all that digging. There is also the game with lightspeed lasers, and Soul Eater NOT! which I genuinely believe is not useful whatsoever here but it would’ve been nice if someone feat checked it at least. I personally believe Crona has a fair enough chance for wincons though if you think universal is undeniable I am dropping those arguments harder than Gwen Stacy-

Now for Crona, I know there are some inconsistencies regarding Asura lasers and the moon feats for gravity, however I can rightfully say there is still plenty of consistent and really strong shit for Crona. Their black blood is a very large factor with range, agility, and a safe strategy Crona can use to keep Venom at bay alongside soul attacks. It also can harden Crona’s defense a lot which can be proven useful against Venom’s offensive fighting style. While Venom may be resistant to things like the Penance Stare, the question is if Venom can survive getting his soul ripped out of his body or directly harmed without disrupting the symbiote’s connection. Can he? Well, debatable enough for me to believe he can, though this isn’t all that Crona has. Their Area of Effect is really huge, being able to cover cities and fucking moons with their attacks, and to top off some of their resonance attacks being able to cleanly saw ships, buildings, and towers over like nothing. Speed-wise I think that the Clown feats are fine enough for rela speeds, and it stays consistent with what Maka said since it has consistently burned and moved in straight lines.

For other crazy things Crona has in store, there is everything Asura packs in his punch, and the storms and DWMA blasts and such. Crona has absorption with souls, and respectively has a lot of uses for soul abilities. Crona also has really good regeneration too, given how Clowns and others can regenerate from mere vapor, I’d say this is some seriously good comparison to Venom’s regeneration too. Hell, Ragnarok is also an obstacle here with his Soul Resonance with Crona, and that Venom would have to kill him to kill Crona too, which would be having to disrupt their wavelength. With all things considered most of the epicly strong things in Soul Eater ranging from island and up are in question for Crona to scale to, however it is indeed possible that Small Island is a fine enough estimation for their AP… and now Shitbag Theater gives to you the most stupidly powerful part about Crona: Kishin Asura.

Where should I start for Asura? Seriously, this guy is fucking busted with his hax and abilities. To start off with Asura’s main gimmick, Madness, it’s safe to say Asura’s abilities are insane in abilities… ok I’ll stop, don’t wanna drive y’all mad. Wait, did those puns make your blood boil? Anyways, they deliver a big punch, being able to drive people to suicide, illusions, all that Devilman Crybaby shit in it’s range. It’s range is pretty mild but can majorly affect the mind in an instant once it does. And this hax can go through a lot of resistances too. In the manga, Crona by the end of it absorbs Asura completely, taking all of his already ludicrous abilities into their own body. This transformation was permanent and eventually led Crona into a Kishin themself, gaining power that could arguably surpass Maka by the end of the series. It really is a massive boost of Crona’s already good AP and speed.

Does it sound like I’m biased to Crona? Yeah, I really am. This whole period I was paying a lot of attention to Crona’s pros but this doesn’t change that I genuinely believe it is nothing compared to Venom. Crona may have a lot of good wincons, most being usable and not OOC at all in a fight unlike things such as possession, however this doesn’t ignore that Venom is just way too strong. Crona can try all they want to disrupt his soul or connection to the symbiote but honestly? That’s not gonna do shit if they resisted the damn Penance Stare and even getting hit by a gun that atomizes things. Even with Asura’s Madness, there’s no doubt that Venom can resist mindfucks while napping. Sorry Crona, you're my 5th favorite character. I really wish they took this win but ever since Cates was introduced I lost hope at first sight for Crona’s chances… but hey, this wait period got me into the series in the first place. I’m glad Crona was announced, and I’m glad to be here for this blog for today. Until next time, arrivederci.

...also when thE FUCK IS JOJO GONNA BE ON DB AGAI-

Cyber

(Should have been Shiro)

After a week of constant back and forths, it is time to conclude who wins.

Before I dissect who wins, I would first like to explain why Relativistic soul eater should be fine.

Rel Soul eater

First, the reason Black Star is capable of grabbing and throwing the beam of light is due to soul menace, which laces his handhand with his wavelength and applies it to anything he touches, giving him the ability to attack the soul or grab things that have no mass, like souls.

Stein also notes he can feel black stars wavelength.

It should also be noted that other characters can also grab eat souls, which have no mass

As for what makes it light?

https://s1.mangabeast01.com/manga/Soul-Eater/0091-014.png

It's called light when refracted by this spell (it curving here is most likely due to the spell using wavelengths, which is what happened when black star grabbed them with soul menace)

Maka calls it a laser (should be noted she is by the far the most intelligent member of her class)

The photon arrow from the video game, Monotone Princess, adds to the validity of se characters being rel, as its canon to the anime, and characters can avoid it (actual photons)

https://souleater.fandom.com/wiki/Photon_Arrow

Update: Atsushi Ōkubo actually has recently been adding elements from soul eater to his newest manga, force force.

Fire Force also has lasers called light, and that have radiation signatures. They are drawn in a similar manner to soul eater. Given this, it could be argued that the narrative intent for the soul eater lasers were for them to be actual lasers.

Who actually wins

I do believe Venom should get his recent herald scaling. With that said, he firmly out stats Crona across the board. Venom scales to characters who are faster than light, crona at best is .89c.

Crona at best is an island buster in ap, Venom scales to savage hulk and juggernaut, who in turn are stronger than grey hulk, who destroyed a meteor twice the size of earth.

Venom firmly resists all of Crona’s hax except absorption, and can just avoid it due to the speed gap. The only issue is crona’s regen, but given the AP gap, venom can literally one shot crona so no genetic material remains. If crona somehow can return using the sea of black blood inside of asura to return, venom can keep killing crona until there is no black blood left. Disappointingly, this is a stomp. Venom wins.

More calc’s for both series

BangJang96

(Spooky time!)

Well...Death Battles really spoiling me. First my favorite character of all time, then my favorite anti-hero of all time, and now my favorite Marvel character of all time...I’m gonna be the first to say, I’m having the absolute time of my life right now. I’ll talk brief this time since when it comes to Soul Eater, I know nothing.

Right off the bat I wanna say I do think Donny Cates content for Venom past 2018 will indeed be used, with the implications of Donny Cates we got in the preview (the panel of him with the cool wings per say), no doubt for me is that Cates is going to be mentioned and brought up and with that being said, Venom I think is going to take this. His herald scaling has gained much more supporting ground then before, and if you don’t believe me lets go over them:

So with feats like these, I think it's safe to say Venom secures the stat trinity, being stronger and more durable and scaling to lightspeed-reaction characters such as Spider-Man, that gap should allow him to bypass Crona’s insane regenerative capabilities to where there's no black blood or genetic material left, and as for Crona’s madness manipulation, Venom has casually resisted the Penance Stare in the past, and while it isn’t entirely the same it has some form of mental influence over those he uses it on, so Venom in the long run shouldn’t have trouble resisting being driven to suicide. Overall, Venom is gonna ragna-rock Crona’s world.

“We...are Venom.”

Migue79

(‘Feelin’ familiar?’)

Hello, everybody! Good to be back in the G1 blog to write some more verdicts for MUs. And this time, the MU we got is what is considered Carnage vs. Lucy’s spiritual successor, Venom vs. Crona! And what do I have to say in respect to this unexpected MU verdict-wise?

Haha. Symbiote guy vs. pink-haired anti-villain with an MPD.

Haha. Pink-haired character statstomps symbiote boy. Crona gonna continu-

This happens

Oh… Welp, shit.

Well, initially I was going to go with Crona with the regular “AP stomps + too durable + having access to weakness + better hax + Range + AoE + non-blitz worthy speed gap (and matching speed with leeway) = Win” equation that I went with for CvL (maybe ignoring the hax part for CvL lol).

Buuuuuuuuuut Donny Cates decided to throw a wrench into this equation by giving Venom Herald Scaling with his recent runs (Absolute Carnage and Venom Island). And one that he seemingly keeps instead of losing shortly after. Great! Now I have to use it due to it also being accounted for in DB’s research.

There isn’t much to say from here on that hasn’t been said, so I’ll be keeping this short. Crona is… not even close to being in the Planetary region Attack Potency-wise, let alone Stellar and beyond. And… that’s kind of what they sort of needed, to be honest. Because if the AP gap wasn’t that large and was close, Venom would have no reliable way past their regeneration (which is to the point of regenerating from ashes), and thus, Crona could’ve haxxed themselves to victory with their Madness hax and Absorption.

Going back to Crona’s regen… their regeneration is due to, of course, Reliant Immortality (Type 8 if you wanna use VSBW terms). In this case, their Immortality relies on desire for motherly love and fear, aspects of humanity they represent. That’s… pretty sweet ngl.

But I guess Immortality is useless if Venom can literally overcome the regen by turning Crona to atoms just by breathing. And on top of that speed blitzing (it’s fricking Quadrillions C vs. Relativistic+ for crying out loud) and arguments of him resisting most of Crona’s hax as well. Yeah… I…

I guess Crona ain’t winning like my girl did back then… Sad days… I’ll still be rooting for you, Crona!

Venom will Ragna-rock the competition and take his second W.

  3. Late on this, but truly a good prediction. 50/50 again on the factor as the fight can go either way, the research was still on top. Can't wait for the fight.

  4. Wow. What a plot twist. It'seems honestly kind of hilarious that Venom got buffed this much so recently. Poor Crona though...

  5. Here's a controversial take:
I think Venom speed-blitzes without the Cates stuff.
Honestly, you could just scale him to Spider-Man, and you get pretty much the same results. Considering the absurd scaling Pete has gotten over the years.LOL
Anyways, decent blog overall.I disagree with a few points here or there, but it's still pretty solid overall.
    Oh, Also:
Do statements about characters hitting with the force of an earthquake really put them around the hundreds of kilotons range?
    Because if so ...

He actually did if you scaled him to Spider-Man's feats of defeating Firelord, breaking Quasar's constructs, injuring base Ms. Marvel Carol Danvers with a punch, and owning Civil-War Iron Man. LOL
(Although scaling all of them to the Venom symbiote is a bit dubious as for a time, Spidey when not holding back was explicitly stated to be stronger then Venom. Even during the Venom Symbiote's time with Flash Thompson as Agent Venom (Who has some absurd scaling in his own right), as you can see with these scans right here:
      https://imgur.com/gallery/u1ramdd
This actually makes sense, considering Spider-Man is constantly getting significant boosts to his strength and speed as his story continues.
More info about Spider-Man scaling, if you need it (WARNING: Extremely Comprehensive, Read at your own pace.):

Really now? That's good to hear.
      FYI
If this does make Silver-Age Batman and Joker town-level, then it scales to:
-Killer Croc, whose the same Pre-Crisis and Post-Crisis, and thus has actually fought against the same Batman who did that feat (And won multiple times against him, apparently)
-Pre-Crisis Jason Todd (He beat the crap outta Killer Croc when Croc killed both of his parents)
-Lady Shiva, who defeated Killer Croc with ease
-Harvey Dent, believe it or not (He's beaten Killer Croc with just his bare hands)
-Bane, who broke Killer Croc's arms in one of his earliest appearances
-And Harley Quinn, who defeated Croc albeit after a long-struggle that ended up with both of them being knocked-out
      Hope this was helpful. ^V^

    5. @KamiZephr
Oh, I also think town-level Batman characters wouldn't be too far of a stretch, considering that some Batman characters scale to things like Deathstroke's lance incinerating a helicopter, and Silver-Age/Bronze-Age Batman doing more damage to a zombie Ubu then Ra's Mountain Base exploding with Ubu inside it.

And knowing Death Battle, they'll probably have Crona win. I could understand if Venom wins if they used Modern Venom, but we don't know what's gonna happen. Well then, until tomorrow." - Andrex

  11. So I watched the death battle on YouTube and it turns out they didn’t use the cates run I think???? They had venom use the wings and sword that I thought came from that series, they even mentioned the codices but the stats they used seemed to be specifically the old venom. Maybe I missed a tool tip or something during the match but why didn’t they use the herald stats.

    1. They used Cates run but they used the fact that Venom needed outside help to defeat some of his strongest opponents as an excuse to downplay him... despite the fact that he could still dodge and survive all of thier attacks. Attacks which would one-shot pretty much anyone in Soul Eater

    2. That makes no sense if it’s more or less a permanent buff. 0.o. Wow it’s been a while since I have disagreed with a death battle lol I shouldn’t be so surprised

    3. I mean, they're not exactly wrong on the fact Carnage was literally with Venom together in the Cates run to defeat some of his strongest opponent like Dark Carnage LOL...

Regardless, it's still a stomp either way and I'm happy that Crona actually won.

    4. Plus, I think y'all were kinda overestimating Venom there when taking his Donny Kates' run into context.

    5. Doesn't change the fact that he could tank hits from and hurt herald level threats

    6. several characters do that. what matters is consistency

    7. By the time Venom got his upgrade, it became pretty damn consistant

  12. You guys can do way better research than the death battle crew does and I knew venom but they let Crona win this but have venom does have more Durability! because he took hits from the Juggernaut and Hulk and he even tank the hulk tunder clap
