Iron Fist, the sworn Defender of K’un-Lun and Hero for Hire. Po, the Valley of Peace’s very own Dragon Warrior. 

It all started one fateful day, long ago. Tragedy strikes, orphaning a boy who cannot yet comprehend the circumstances of their misfortune. Years pass, and the child has grown up. Through his tenacity, training, and willpower alone, he has triumphed over every obstacle standing in his way to become the warrior his blood has ached for him to be. Now he stands tall: golden fists ablaze, a defender and friend to the weak. In his enlightenment, he has surpassed his masters and become a teacher for the next generation himself. Be not fooled by humility, for today’s combatants are not to be underestimated. 

When it comes to master martial artists, few are as iconic or beloved as these awesome legendary warriors of mythical awesomeness. Behold! Ferocious powers, widespread reputation, unrivalled skill in hand-to-hand combat…and a sense of humor. Indeed, these two prove that sometimes the greatest technique a kung-fu master can learn is how to deliver a quip or two in the face of the most vile villains imaginable. Of course, there will be no time for games (or snacks) in this competition, for only one may claim victory in this bout. Find your inner peace now. Focus, and meditate thoroughly before taking a side…

After the dust clears, will it be the Immortal Iron Fist or the Dragon Warrior who brings glory to their land? In other words, who would win…a Death Battle?

Background

Iron Fist

“Oh! My name is Daniel Rand. I am Iron Fist and I know kung fu. Hi-yahh.”

Daniel Rand was the son of Wendell Rand, a businessman who once lived in a fabled city known as K’un-Lun, which exists in another dimensional realm, later revealed to be one of the Seven Capital Cities of Heaven. Wendell Rand-K’ai (as he was known in said dimension) was the adoptive son of Lord Tuan, who ruled over the city of K’un-Lun, until his devious brother Nu-An forced Wendell out of the dimension with the desire to rule the dimension all for himself after their father. As such, he landed in the United States and became a wealthy businessman, even marrying a woman named Heather, who had a son named Daniel Rand. In an attempt to return to K’un-Lun, Wendell, Daniel, Heather, and his business partner Harold Meachum traveled to Tibet where once every 10 years an interdimensional nexus would open to the ancient city. In an unfortunate turn of events, Daniel lost his footing while on the mountain passage, causing him and his parents to fall over an ice shelf. Daniel and Heather landed on a ledge, but Wendell was dangling over the mountainside, and begged Meachum to help him up. Meachum unfortunately had plans to take over Wendell’s part of the business, and intentionally let him fall to his death, leaving Danny and his mom behind after they turned down his offer to go with him. 

Attempting to turn back to camp, a pack of wolves encountered them and Heather held the wolves back long enough for Danny to escape, but was killed in the process. Before the wolves could go after Danny, denizens of the K’un-Lun city found the boy and took him to their city. There, he was brought before Yu-Ti, who plotted the assassination of both of Danny’s parents. Yu-Ti apprenticed Danny to the martial arts master Lei Kung the Thunderer, who trained him for 10 years straight. When Danny had reached age 19, he was given the opportunity to gain the power of the Iron Fist. To do so, he needed to battle and kill the fire-breathing serpent Shou-Lao the Undying. Danny successfully slew the beast and found its molten heart, plunging into its quasi-mystical energies and earning the title of the “Iron Fist.” With his superhuman abilities acquired, Danny rejected staying in K’un-Lun and instead returned to America via the nexus to take vengeance on Harold Meachum, the man who murdered his father.

But like a typical story revolving around the sacred martial arts, revenge was not to be served. The vile Meachum, in all his glorious wealth, had lost his legs to frostbite. Wallowing in pain, he was more than happy for the son of his former business partner to take his life. But Daniel couldn’t do it. He would not bring himself to kill such a weak, pitiful man. And so he left the suicidal Harold alone. It’s alright, though, he got assassinated by a ninja anyway. 

Since then, a lot has changed for the Iron Fist. Now swimming in dough via inheritance, he served as the protector of K’un-Lun, and in time, became a superhero. He also had the Rand company to lead and all that, so overall, he’s doing pretty well for himself. Among the likes of the Avengers, the Thunderbolts, and his very own Heroes for Hire, he’s kicking bad guys in the name of justice and kung-fu. 

Po

“I’m not a big fat panda. I’m THE big fat panda!”

Many years ago, when Po was born into his village of pandas, it seemed like he was destined to live a peaceful life. That is, until his home was raided by the vile peacock Lord Shen on the whim of a prophecy, leading to many of Po’s kind being either slaughtered or driven off. Desperate to save her son’s life, Po’s mother placed the infant in a radish basket and sacrificed herself to lead Shen away. The basket eventually found its way to the Valley of Peace, where it was found by the noodle shop owner Mr. Ping. The restaurateur gladly took in the baby and raised him to one day take over the Noodle Shop. That would have been Po’s chosen path, had he not also seen a demonstration of the art of Kung Fu from the Furious Five when fighting the villain Boar. An intense love for the martial art overcame Po, and he became determined to know everything he could about the craft, and the masters. However, he was still stuck in his father’s noodle shop, only being able to dream of fighting alongside his idols while serving tables by day.

On the day that Master Oogway was set to choose the legendary Dragon Warrior who would defeat Tai Lung, Po’s quest to see the event himself led him to falling from the sky as a ball of fire right into Oogway’s path, just as it was always destined to be. Po was given the title of Dragon Warrior, and began his training. After much hardship, mockery, and hopelessness, Po finally unlocked his true potential and the secret of the Dragon Scroll, allowing him to defeat Shifu’s estranged pupil Tai Lung, saving the Valley from his rage, and proving he was truly worthy of the title Dragon Warrior.

After some time, Po was tasked with saving kung fu itself from a terrifying new weapon, and stopping Shen in the process. Face to face with the one who had ruined his life all those years ago, Po was promptly cast out and left for dead in his former village. After finding out the truth of his past from memories and the Soothsayers’ words, Po made peace with his personal demons and achieved inner peace, using the ability to save Gongmen City and all of China from Shen’s wrath, and learning to forgive his vengeful adversary.

With his time in Gongmen, and his defeat of many notable threats like Tong Fo, Hundun, Temutai, and Pang Bing, Po soon had garnered Shifu’s trust, and was put in charge of teaching the Furious Five. But before he could go far, he had an unexpected reunion with his long-lost panda father Li Shan, just in time to be attacked by the forces of Kai, a spirit warrior hellbent on absorbing the chi of every kung fu master in China. Desperate to stop the rampage, Po traveled to the new village of pandas to learn the secret of chi, and eventually led a final stand against Kai that took the conflict to the Spirit Realm. It was here, with the blessings of all his allies, new and old, that Po was able to master chi at last, defeat Kai, and take up the mantle of Oogway’s successor, training the rest of China in the art of chi.

Since then, Po has taken up the mentoring of a new generation of chi warriors in the Four Constellations, and together the 5 have defeated notable threats like Dragon Master Jindiao and the White Bone Demon, proving that China will always be safe as long as the Dragon Warrior is on the job. As long as he isn’t stuffing his face with dumplings, anyway.

Po

Master Oogway’s Staff

An artifact gifted to Po by Oogway upon Kai’s defeat. The staff seemingly helps augment Po’s chi. The staff was carved by Oogway from the wood of the Peach Tree of Heavenly Wisdom, which can ward off evil.

Morning Star

A morning star is a medieval club-like weapon that consists of a shaft with an attached ball, resembling a mace, adorned with one or more spikes. However, the spiked ball is attached to the shaft through a long metal chain. The morning star uses a combination of blunt-force and puncture attack to kill or wound enemies. Po is fairly proficient with this weapon.

Nunchucks

Po is quite capable of craftsmanship, as he made a pair of nunchucks from the bark of a tree in seconds. Nunchaku is a traditional Okinawan martial arts weapon consisting of two sticks connected at one end by a short chain or rope. The intended use of nunchaku is for it to be a training weapon, since it allows the development of quicker hand movements and improves posture. The nunchaku helps teach self-restraint and posture, as the weapon is liable to hit the wielder more than the opponent if not used properly. It can be whirled around, using its hardened handles for blunt force, as well as wrapping its chain around an attacking weapon to immobilize or disarm an opponent. Training with the nunchaku has been noted to increase hand speed, improve posture, and condition the hands of the user.

Ninja Stars

Po has also been shown to have some proficiency in using shurikens. Also known as ninja throwing stars, shurikens are Japanese concealed weapons used as hidden daggers or metsubushi for distractions or misdirection. Though supplementary weapons, they often had an important tactical effect in battle. Targets for shurikens were primarily the more exposed parts of the body: the eyes, face, hands, or feet. Shurikens would sometimes be thrown in a way that slashed the opponent in a glancing blow and travelled on, becoming lost, leaving the opponent confused about the cause of the wound. There are other various ways to use shurikens. They can be embedded in the ground, injuring those who stepped on them, wrapped in fuse to be lit and thrown to cause fire, or wrapped in a cloth soaked in poison and lit to cover an area with a cloud of poisonous smoke. A shuriken can also be used as a handheld weapon in close combat.

Tri-Bo-Yao

A three-pronged, extendable staff with twin iron hammers attached at both ends, enabling incredible striking power. Po isn’t very proficient with the weapon, though.

Miscellaneous Equipment

Over his adventures, Po has acquired and lost many items, including:

Shuyong Seeds

Seeds that come from the fruit of the Shuyong Tree, or the Tree of Eternity. Throwing a seed on the ground causes the user to travel back in time a few seconds. Throwing more seeds increases the time sent back, to the point where one can travel to before the beginning of time. Planting a seed creates a new Shuyong Tree, and eating its fruit allows the user to time travel as they please.

Mystical Mirror of Yin and Yang

When held up to a person’s face, it splits the target into two halves, good and evil. Whichever half is hurt has the pain felt by the other half. The evil half is the user fighting while bloodlusted, which usually results in that half being a more skilled fighter than his original half, without any sense of morality.

Kung Fu Shoes

Increases Po’s kung fu fighting capabilities a thousandfold. However, the shoes evaporate upon touching water.

Hopping Ghost Staff

Allows Po to control Hopping Ghosts, or potentially other types of ghosts as well.

Phantom Crystal

Enables Po to phase through any solid matter. 

Doll Dagger

A dagger that can extend into a sword, which shoots concussive energy blasts.

Shift Stone

Allows Po to change his form to look like anyone else in the eyes of everyone around him.

Spirit Urn

A magical urn capable of sealing souls.

Sword of Heroes

A sword that is so sharp, one can cut themselves just from looking at it. Although not used by Po very often, he has shown some level of proficiency.

Helmet of the Invincible Thunder Kick

A helm that grants the user tremendous power, infusing their kick with lightning and further strength.

Parasol

When trapped in the village of the Ladies of the Shade, Po briefly fought with the use of a parasol, showing decent proficiency.

Hand Wraps

Gloves that Po uses to strengthen his punches.

Bamboo Staff

A staff made of bamboo that Po can use to fight at a distance.

Abilities

Iron Fist

Combat Abilities

Iron Fist is considered to be a master martial artist, having been trained in hand-to-hand combat since the age of nine. He is a master in K’un-Lun martial arts and has learned and mastered countless Earth martial arts including, but not limited to, boxing, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, karate, kung-ju, and ninjutsu, and in his experience has claimed he has learned an infinite amount of ways to kill someone. His skill has been regarded and respected by many other martial artists such as Elektra, Wolverine, Spider-Man, and even legendary martial artist Shang-Chi, who recognizes Iron Fist as a martial arts master and vice versa. Danny’s fought countless other Marvel heroes in combat, such as Spider-Man, Deadpool, Daredevil, and Wolverine. He was even able to beat Sabretooth, long mortal enemy of Wolverine despite being blinded. He is able to fight hordes of enemies on a day to day basis, from 88 S.H.I.E.L.D. Agents, to armed K’un-Lun warriors and martial artists. Some of his best stand-alone martial arts feats include:

• Defeating a monster that increases in size per hit by cutting his Achilles tendon

• Taking down a armed ninja with thousands of years of experience

• Beating Warhawk, his physical superior despite being tranquilized

He is also skilled in applying unique chi-based techniques to his martial arts, such as using the drunken monkey style, which allows him to slip past Mr. X’s telepathy. Danny is also proficient in armed combat, and has used a variety of weapons. He is skilled enough to use Daredevil’s batons, and has used numerous weapons at once such as nun-chucks and katanas.

Pressure Point Knowledge

Iron Fist has been shown capable of locating different pressure points on the human body. Some methods for using them include paralyzation, incapacitation, putting someone to sleep, or can kill a person if needed too. Some techniques include a sleeper pinch, which can put someone to sleep or his meridian pinch, which can knock someone out and leave them with a mild headache when they awake. His pressure points are potent enough to harm the likes of Misty Knight and Spider-Man.

Tigerclaw Blow

The tigerclaw blow is a martial arts technique where the hand is formed into an arc, seeking to strike the opponent's neck.

Chi Manipulation

Defined as mystical spirit energy, chi is the main source of power Danny derives his power from and in Marvel, chi exists everywhere! He’s able to utilize chi in a variety of ways, most notably in amplifying his own physical limits, however he can utilize chi in many different ways.

The Iron Fist

Gained by dipping his hands into the molten heart of Shou-Lao the Undying, the Iron Fist allows Danny to summon chi and focus it through his fists. With it, his fist becomes strong enough to accomplish feats like punching Luke Cage through a building, destroying an aircraft, and harming superhuman characters like Ragnarok and The Thing.

Iron Kick

A variant of the Iron Fist where Danny channels chi through his foot.

Healing

By focusing chi through himself or others, Danny is able to heal them. This healing is said to be as strong as his convictions, with its abilities ranging from healing bruises to reviving himself from a near-death state. With it, he is immune to poisons (provided his chi isn’t weakened) and can burn them out of his system. He’s even immune to viruses and infections and can heal others of similar ailments. This can go so far as to where Danny can unconsciously heal himself, suggesting some type of passive healing.

Meditation

Iron Fist is a master of meditation and relaxation techniques. He can use this to enter a state of peace or to ignore pain and even slow his heart rate. He was able to meditate for three days straight once before he couldn’t feel his toes. He’s even learned to meditate in such a manner that others are affected as well. 

Energy Absorption

Danny has many instances of absorbing forms of energy, such as this radiation, or this instance where he absorbs electromagnetic energy from a train "loaded with enough explosives to make Hiroshima look like a sparkler" by firing himself at the train like a bullet. He can even absorb energy attacks that are measured in hundreds of megatons. Perhaps most impressively, Danny has managed to resist the Flames of the Faltine, a spell commonly used by Dr. Strange.

However, this ability isn’t limitless, as Danny’s absorption has failed to overcome the likes of Wrecker’s Crowbar, an Asgardian level artifact. 

Chi Absorption

 

In addition to absorbing energy, Danny has the capability to absorb Chi from others. Not only can Danny openly receive Chi bestowed upon him, but he can also take Chi from defeated opponents seemingly on command, without having to even think about it. He once even absorbed enough spiritual energy to one-shot Zhu Rong, Taoist god of fire.

Notably, not all Chi is the same. Thus, if Danny’s own personal Chi is ever extinguished, absorbing outsider Chi cannot replace his own entirely, only serving to momentarily replenish it instead. 

Chi Projection

 

Allows Danny to fire chi from his hands, either in the form of blasts or explosive bursts

Chi Channeling

Allows Danny to imbue anything he holds with chi, granting it an increase in strength. He’s been shown to do this with a sword and scrap metal.

Enhanced Senses

Danny’s extensive training has left him with frankly superhuman senses. His hearing is astute enough to catch out something as simple as somebody sweating, he can follow normally undetectable trails with methods such as tracking radioactive residue, and he practically has a watered down Spider-Sense. He is also very good at sensing the environment around him such as opponents sneaking up behind him or simply feeling the rush of air around him to be alert of attackers. He can also detect more superhuman activities going on with his senses such as life force energy or opponents turning intangible.

Hypnosis

Danny knows the hypnotic hand technique, which can hypnotize people via waving his hand. Victims of the hypnotism seem to be susceptible to the user’s influence to some degree, as Orson Randall managed to bypass security using the ability. 

Empathy

Iron Fist can use his chi to sense or read other people's emotions, as well as broadcast his own emotions in order to influence other people.

Mind Meld

Mind Meld is a unique ability that allows Iron Fist to fuse his consciousness with another person, resulting in a sharing of thoughts, emotions, ideas, and memories.

Mystic Protection

Thanks to his training in sacred arts, Danny is uniquely protected from certain specific magic phenomena. This should not be construed as magic protection or immunity, however; simply that Danny’s mystic nature separates him to some degree from most normal humans. 

Mental Resistances

If given enough time, Danny’s Chi has the ability to clear certain mind-targeting afflictions such as Norman Osborn’s mind control. He has also been shown to be able to break out of other types of mental influences such as Angar’s sound illusions. However, he has been mind controlled before and has been unable to free himself without focusing his Chi, indicating this resistance is far from impenetrable. 

Chi Dragon

 

It’s a Chi Dragon, it looks sick. Danny may summon it for a devastating attack.

Nervous System Control

Iron Fist has absolute complete control and precision over his nervous system. He can slow down the rate at which he bleeds or suppress heartbeat altogether to appear dead or deaden pain. He can slow down his breathing rate or hold his breath to avoid toxins or gases, and resist the effects of drugs and poison. 

Stealth

Iron Fist is incredibly stealthy and quiet, being able to use his ninja skills to disappear from view before his enemies even realize it. He can use the fog, shadows, and darkness in general to strike from places no one can see him. His stealth is so advanced, it has gone undetected by the Avengers Mansion defenses, a group of students with trained hearing, and even Spider-Man’s spider sense couldn’t detect a stealthy attack from Danny.

Dimensional Travel

By concentrating his chi, Iron Fist is capable of utilizing a technique that creates a portal across time and space, allowing him to access other dimensions.

Po

Panda Physiology 

Due to being, well, a panda, Po is extremely fat, and has adapted his fighting style in order to take advantage of this fact. He uses his momentum when hit by opponents to strike back with a much larger force. He can also use his furry fat to bounce off attacks. For example, he is basically immune to most standard pressure point attacks, as they simply cannot reach his nerves, only tickling him. However, if the attacks are aimed in the proper spots, it is possible to affect Po with acupuncture type pressure attacks, as seen with Taotie’s machine. However, this required an intimate knowledge of Po’s physiology.

Combat Abilities

Po is an incredibly skilled martial artist in his own right, with some extremely notable feats.

• He was able to beat Master Monkey and Crane simultaneously, two of the most renowned kung fu masters in China, without using his hands.

• Can fight on par with Fenghuang, who is more skilled than Master Shifu and was able to contend with Oogway, who is more skilled than Tai Lung, who mastered the thousand scrolls of Kung Fu.

• Won a fight against professional wrestler Kwan the Unkillable, while partly weighed down with iron gauntlets on his hands and feet.

• When poisoned by Scorpion, was able to use his dizzy kung fu style to still win.

• Was able to overcome the original Furious Five singlehandedly, who were able to completely curbstomp the current Furious Five in a fight.

• Has been trained in the art of Bushido by Master Yijiro.

• Has excellent aim, being able to shoot a pair of tongs at Shen and trap his neck between the prongs.

• Was able to overcome the Croc Bandits, even while chained to Tigress.

• With a broken leg and many injuries, was still able to cleanly cut down a forest of bamboo with just a crutch.

• Overcame his weakness to the Swirling Lynx roundhouse kick when fighting Hundun.

• In a week’s time, became skilled enough to contend with Tai Lung, something the original Furious Five couldn’t do, even with years of training and a 5-1 advantage.

• With a broken leg, was able to beat Hundun, a rhino whom Po had taught all his kung fu secrets.

• While blinded, was able to defeat Junjie, an accomplished Shaolin master who can contend with Shifu.

• Beat a gang of croc bandits with only his pinkies. Later, after he had lost all his skills and gotten stomped by the bandits, was able to get back his skill with only a day of training.

• When wearing the kung fu shoes, was capable of passing the “Test of the Three Needles”, a task considered impossible by even the greatest masters in Po’s world.

• Was considered worthy to become a successor to Master Yao, keeper of all the world’s greatest Kung Fu secrets.

Po is a master of kung fu. Kung fu is the Chinese martial art that is also known as wushu and quanfa. In China, it refers to any study, learning, or practice that requires patience, energy, and time to complete, not necessarily martial arts. While there are various forms of kung fu practiced around the world with their own principles and techniques, the martial art is best known for its trickery and quickness. Po also knows some tai chi. Also known as shadowboxing, tai chi is an internal Chinese martial art practiced for defense training, health benefits, and meditation. Developed as a martial art, it is practiced for other reasons: competitive wrestling in the format of pushing hands (tui shou), demonstration competitions, and greater longevity. As a result, a multitude of traditional and modern training forms exist corresponding to those aims with differing emphasis.

Enhanced Senses

Po could smell the day-old garlic chow mein on Junjie’s breath to fight him in the dark, and heard the faint sound of the Qi’dan Bell Trap from the top of Jade Mountain all the way in the Valley of Peace.

Ground Pound

Po jumps high into the air, with the full weight of his body falling on top of his opponent soon after.

Roll Dash

Allows Po to increase his movement speed by rolling his body like a ball.

Belly Attack

After attacking with his belly, a gust of wind appears and blows opponents away.

Super Iron Belly Technique

A stronger variation of his regular belly attack. Sends enemies farther and harder.

Chi Punch

After a bit of windup, Po unleashes a punch of chi.

Flying Squirrel Technique

Allows Po to perform a double jump in midair.

Lost Panda Ball

Po curls into a ball and rolls, either into enemies or through tight spaces. Po can also roll at high speeds, allowing him to crash into enemies with incredible force.

Mantis Fury

Po throws objects with incredible force, letting them hit strong material with enough force to destroy them.

Viper Crush

Po squeezes enemies hard enough to make them pop out of their armor.

Panda Quake

Po bodyslams the ground and deals great damage to anything caught below.

Iron Claw

Po slashes forward with sharp claws powerful enough to obliterate any shield.

Leaping Monkey

Allows Po to jump from object to object in midair to remain airborne.

Spinning Feather Blossom

Allows Po to fly through the air temporarily.

Dragon Warrior Technique

Adds explosive damage to Po’s attacks, making them far stronger than normal.

Dumpling Defense

Boosts Po’s defenses.

Acu-Punch

Seemingly learned from Mantis, Po can execute a series of lightning fast jabs at specific pressure points in order to cause negative effects to the target’s body. Po can use this technique to put targets to sleep, as well. If Po paralyzes an opponent at the right points, they will be stuck in their position forever after about an hour.

Dragon

Can summon a dragon to attack a multitude of enemies.

Chao Wa Punch Kick

A move where Po delivers a series of pressure point strikes that allow him to totally paralyze his target.

Golden Lotus Clap

A powerful technique where Po performs a series of hand movements before clapping. The technique is powerful enough to easily break iron leg cuffs, and can blind anyone who doesn’t close their eyes, including Po himself.

Silken Moon Touch

A technique created by the legendary master Wu Shen, allowing Po to deliver a powerful strike at his greatest moment of clarity. The technique is so potent, it briefly causes the sky to turn to night as a side effect.

Mongolian Fireball

One of the legendary 12 Impossible Moves, allowing Po to summon a fireball as an attack. When combined with a second fireball, it produces a sort of black-hole type effect, sucking in any nearby objects.

Thundering Wind Hammer

Po spins around incredibly fast, before firing a shot of concentrated wind energy. The attack is powerful enough to send Temutai, a ram almost twice Po’s size, miles away with one hit.

Eyes of Bushido

Po concentrates and puts aside all thoughts of himself, enabling him to see the world as a samurai, making the world appear slow by Po’s perception.

Wu-Xi Finger Hold

A technique developed by Master Wu-Xi in the 3rd dynasty. With a flex of the pinky finger, the user sends the victim to the Spirit Realm, effectively the KFP universe’s equivalent of the afterlife. The technique is useless against those who are already classified as spirits, however.

Resurrection/Portal Creation

Po is capable of creating portals in and out of the Spirit Realm at any time. Because the Spirit Realm is where the dead go in Kung Fu Panda, it essentially offers a level of resurrection to Po as long as his soul remains intact.

Inner Peace

A technique Po was able to master after coming to terms with his past. The move allows Po supreme precision, enabling him to do feats like guiding a single raindrop to the ground without dispersing it, or catching and returning cannonballs.

Chi

A natural life energy exists within Po and other living beings in the Kung Fu Panda universe. Chi is spiritual energy that’s a power presumably associated with kung fu. Surprisingly enough, the mastery of this art seems to stem from the pandas. Po also possesses a special type of chi known as Hero’s Chi. This special chi belongs only to a select number of Kung fu masters. Master Oogway was given Hero’s Chi as a gift from the universe and later gave the Hero’s Chi to Po when the old tortoise passed on. 

Energy Manipulation

Po can manipulate chi energy to do all sorts of things, whether it be defense or offensive. For example, shooting a beam that blows up the big baddie of Kung Fu Panda 3. 

Healing

During his battle with the demon Ke-Pa, Po’s Hero Chi was drained with the panda nearly finished off. However, a peach tree sapling of the Peach Tree of Heavenly Wisdom re-energized and enhanced his Hero's Chi, allowing Po to defeat Ke-Pa and his demon army.

Soul Manipulation

Chi is capable of manipulating the souls of others as shown during the fight against Jindiao where the Panda Village used chi to remove Jiandao’s soul from his body. Po has this ability as all the members of the Panda Village were able to help with removing Jinandao’s soul. 

Elemental Manipulation

Po can use his chi in order to manipulate the elements around him. With the help of 4 other pandas, he could solidify lava. 

Physical Augmentation 

Po can use his chi as a means of augmenting his physical abilities, allowing him to run faster and jump higher. His chi should also augment his durability, though that has not been shown in the series.

Chi Construction

During his final battle against Kai, Po created a dragon construct to truly showcase his status as THE Dragon Warrior, and everything else he was. He can fly and use the dragon’s long body for a new way of fighting with its belly and tail. This form is not to be confused with his dragon form from the TV series. 

Transmutation Resistance

Chi users can use their chi to prevent others from being transmuted as shown in Kung Fu Panda 3 where Panda Village prevented Kai from transmuting Po. 

Chi Restoration

When Jindiao stole Po’s chi, Po was able to reclaim it by concentrating within the Spirit Realm.

Resistance to Possession/Infection

Po has shown great fortitude when fighting off attempts to control him, such as: 

• Resisting the mind control of Master Ding, who single handedly controlled the minds of an entire legion of monks on Mugu Mountain

• Resisting the influence of the Hopping Ghost curse for several minutes 

• Resisting the mind control of Pang Bing, who could control a large part of China

• Resisting the possessive influence of the Moon Weevils 

Possible Acausality

Po was able to remember Shifu and the Furious Five, even after Fenghuang erased them from history via time paradox. However, this is likely only because of the power of the Shuyong Seeds.

Paralysis Resistance

Could resist the effects of the Hopping Ghost Death Breath, which paralyzes victims.

Dragon Transformation

When in the Spirit Realm, Po can assume his “true form,” that being a dragon, which boosts Po’s stats to allow him to better compete against Jindiao. It should be noted that Jindiao was boosted by Wellspring, which is all the chi in the universe. This is easily Po at his most powerful.

Wings of Light

These wings allow Po to fly, whilst in his standard form.

Nao Yuedu

Allows Po to read minds.

Fluttering Finger Mindslip

Learned from the Sacred Scrolls, this technique allows the user to erase the short term memory of the target. If performed enough times, the target forgets more long-lasting memories as well, until they forget how to breathe. Although Po erased his memory of the technique, it is possible he relearned it, considering his memory is restored in future events.

Hopping Ghost Curse

Temporarily, Po also assumed the form of a Jiang-Shi, a Hopping Ghost, which provided Po the ability to levitate, turn invisible, phase through objects, shoot paralyzing Death Breath, and infect others with the Ghost Curse. However, this form is weak to sunlight.

• Fought on par with Jindiao after the latter absorbed the Wellspring. The Wellspring is the source of all chi in the universe (Paws of Destiny Episode 1, 13:11), an endless energy source (PoD Episode 11, 00:45), and the source of all light and life in the universe (PoD Episode 24, 9:12). Upon absorbing the Wellspring, Jindiao grew so powerful that he was able to break out of the Spirit Realm with raw power. This is something noted to have never been done before (ruling out the possibility of portal creation like Kai performed). Blue Dragon stated that “the Spirit Realm is a place of great power, and it would require an even greater power to find a way out” (PoD Episode 12, 8:30), implying Jindiao had surpassed the power of the Spirit Realm itself.

• NOTE: Jindiao absorbing all the chi of the universe and then busting out of the Spirit Realm could be interpreted as a universe level feat, but this is debatable. Individual verdicts will go over the feat, with each person providing their take on it (if they so choose).

Speed

• Ran fast enough to ignite his paws (Mach 5)

Weaknesses

Okay, but seriously, Danny is still a mostly normal human, even with his superhuman abilities. He can only take so much of a beating before he’s down for the count. In addition, enhancing his abilities beyond what they normally grant him is temporary, and can leave him physically or mentally exhausted. In his earlier days of using this technique, it would take him sometimes as long as a day in order to recover before he could enhance himself again, and while it has been diminished thanks to his training, it hasn’t been removed entirely.

Additionally, many of Danny’s more specialized abilities have certain shortcomings and caveats to consider. His energy absorption has a clear upper limit, and his mind resistance has failed on multiple occasions to counter mind control. Not to mention the fact that various other techniques such as hypnosis, Chi absorption, and dimensional travel have rarely, if ever, been applied in the midst of combat. In other words, Danny is a martial artist first and foremost for a reason, preferring to utilize raw skill and basic applications of the Iron Fist over most anything else.

Po

Po is a panda, and pandas are naturally bulky and not all that graceful. As a result, more dextrous abilities can be troublesome for Po. He loves food and can be generally lazy sometimes, meaning that he doesn’t have much experience overall. Po is also sometimes guilty of being too cocky and arrogant due to his title, which has caused him to underestimate characters like Ke-Pa, almost causing total destruction. Po has used many kung fu relics and powers throughout his adventures, but almost all of them are stripped away relatively quickly. 

Po’s chi, while incredibly potent, has been stolen on at least one occasion, forcing Po to concentrate in order to reclaim it. And while Po can reclaim his chi in the Spirit Realm, and while the Spirit Realm is where Po is at his strongest, it also marks Po at his most vulnerable, as a death in the Spirit Realm is permanent.

Summary

Glad to be back at it again on the prediction blog, wish I could’ve said the same for Doom vs Lex but unfortunately I was busy. Brief thoughts on that fight, I thought it was awesome enough to stand out on its own without comparing it to Tony vs Lex and frankly it was one of the best modern Marvel vs DC fights to date. Now that that’s out of the way…

Hype is a massive understatement here. 

No lie, I love comic books, they’re my favorite thing to read when I wake up in the morning and feel like hitting my brain with random knowledge. But this time around, I get to also somewhat revitalize my love for Kung Fu Panda, which is by far my favorite Dreamworks trilogy out there. So much action and comedy blended together well, way better than it has any right to be, and the themes of unlocking your inner peace or self are so similar in each film yet delve into it so differently making it a ton of fun to revisit and rewatch. And objectively speaking, this is hands down the best idea for both by a long shot. The martial artist chi warriors who take up the title of Dragon Warriors. What more could you ask for? The blog has been a blast, the research has been fun despite a wild goose chase in the first week, and overall I’m looking forward to this without a shadow of a doubt. Who do I think wins? To answer that I’m gonna use the old-fashioned sections to talk about who has wincons in what areas, starting with what I think is one of the more prominent arguments;

Strength/Durability: This is one I really wanted to talk about first because there is an elephant in the room that I think needs to be addressed…

I don’t buy herald Iron Fist at all or any of the feats presented to argue for it. Unironically nearly all of them are loaded with massive amounts of context that really need to be addressed since the arguments for herald Iron Fist have been pretty prominent surrounding this Death Battle so I wanna do my best to address as much as I can;

• Danny uses the Iron Fist punch on Skaar, the son of Hulk

• Skaar at most was sent flying a relative distance without any visible pain and 2-3 pages later he gets back up perfectly fine

• Iron Fist punch sends Doc Green Hulk through a wall

• Doc Green isn’t visibly injured in this scan and Danny easily implied in the middle bottom panel that Hulk could easily take him out if he hit him back

• Danny fights Iceman and shatters his body

• Iceman was pretty clearly holding back seeing as how he easily reformed and all it took was hailing his own body to take out Danny

• Danny punches Colossus into a table

• Colossus also appeared visibly unharmed and is literally seen in the bottom scan

• Shao Lao, the dragon Danny killed to gain his powers defeated the Phoenix according to legend

• Not only does the scan imply the dragon shown isn’t the same one that supposedly fought Phoenix, but frankly (and I hate to use this word), this feat would be a massive, massive outlier in hindsight because Danny had to kill the dragon to gain its powers. And it’s pretty obvious Danny isn’t consistently punching out Nightmare or Odin, so this feat at most is super moot. 

• Danny punches Null the Worldbreaker through the heart (who fought Ghost Rider)

• Danny’s hand is clearly hurt by punching him through the heart in the scan

• Danny delivers a finishing punch on an already beaten down Ragnarok, a clone of Thor

• Dark Avengers Volume 2 175 heavily implies the fight between the Defenders and Ragnarok was thrown, and Ragnarok wasn’t trying at his fullest

And on top of that, here's some instances where the Iron Fist punch just doesn’t do anything to heralds;

-Knocks back Iron Man with the punch, who comes out unharmed and one-shots him with repulsor blasts

-Classic Savage Hulk full-blown stops the Iron Fist punch by grabbing Danny’s hand

I’m not doing all this because I hate Danny or I wanna see him lose, I’ve been skeptical of herald IF even before this Death Battle was announced and after talking it over with others it’s a rare case of just hard out of context scaling. Now that it’s been properly addressed, you’re probably wondering where I put Danny in terms of overall AP? With the Iron Fist punch, definitely mountain level. His IF punch has been compared to that of a hydrogen bomb, which can measure from 100 kilotons to 50 megatons and to support it he has matched Radion, whose power is measured in hundreds of megatons. Objectively speaking, I think Danny is all around the strongest Marvel street tier out there by a longshot. And even without the Iron Fist punch, he should easily be large town to small city level via upscaling to numerous other street tiers like Spider-Man having consistently matched him or even people with his powers and even knocked out Luke Cage, and as such scales to feats such as;

• Luke Cage surviving a nuclear bomb from one of Ultron’s sentinels (54 megatons)

• Spider-Man survives being hit with enough electromagnetic energy to destroy a city

• 2099 surviving a city destroying explosion via web cocoon

• Electro powering a rocket (1.09 kilotons)

• Captain America survives relativistic spaceship crash (6.1 megatons)

• Deadpool tanking an explosion meant to destroy the Hoover Dam (145 tons of TNT)

The list goes on. In terms of Po, I think overall he is ahead in strength by miles. He’s easily comparable to the likes of the Furious Five, who fought Tong Fo wielding the Sacred Hammer of Lei-Lang, which can shatter mountains, or being comparable to the likes of Kim the Invincible, who pushed apart the Great Wall of China or Lei Kung, who could casually create small storms, making even a chi-less Po relative to Danny in overall AP. But where he really shines in strength is being superior to Master Black Tortoise, who shattered a meteor with his chi shield that got out to 3.068 Tenatons aka Dwarf Star Level, and this took place in the Paws of Destiny show, which took place after Kung Fu Panda 3, so I don’t think you can make the argument its some massive outlier since Po has drastically gotten stronger with each movie, especially with his ability to amplify is AP with chi. In terms of durability, the same should apply. Even disregarding Po’s massive dwarf star level feat, naturally speaking Po’s got that panda physiology. The man can tank falls hundreds of feet in the air without being harmed, and can take beatdowns from characters as strong and skilled as Kai, who pulled and threw two large rocks hard enough to shatter them and survive being kicked hard enough by Tai Lung to form a massive crater into  the ground. Danny’s durability is also impressive obviously, being able to take hits from Radion, the hundreds of megatons guy I mentioned earlier and the same scaling to the likes of Luke Cage, Spider-Man, Cap, etc. all carry over with some impressive feats of his own like surviving the explosion of a train carrying enough electromagnetic energy "loaded with enough explosives to make Hiroshima look like a sparkler” or recovering from having his back broken and folding the guy who did it with an Iron Fist kick, which somewhat backs up Danny’s statement that pain doesn’t stop him to begin with. Obviously there are a whole bunch of other feats to cover for both these guys in this department, but overall I think it’s better to solidly place them at a certain tier rather than name every feat in the book. So overall, Po is stronger. Mountain level vs dwarf star level is a recipe for disaster.

Speed: In terms of who's faster, Iron Fist takes it pretty clear cut. Sweet and short, its FTL vs. Sub-Relativistic reaction speeds. To back this up though, Danny should easily be FTL by virtue of scaling yet again. Like I said, he’s the king of the Marvel street tiers. No like, he’s the strongest and hell most skilled all around so it's no surprise he would scale in speed. Some various feats include;

• Captain America and Wolverine reacting to Cyclops’ optic lasers, which have numerous statements confirming they are lightspeed

• Spider-Man looking away from hypnotizing light at close range

• Dazzler says Spider-Man is the fastest she’s seen, and Dazzler moves at lightspeed

Now as for Po, Sub-Relativistic comes from the Black Tortoise feat again. The Black Tortoise was able to shield the entire planet with chi before the meteor hit, which got calc’d to relativistic. Obviously they have a lot more feats on both ends, but they aren’t worth diving too much into since I think this category is pretty clear cut, but for the fun of it I’ll just mention some weird travel speed feats they have, like Po running fast enough to ignite his hands from high-fives (Mach 5) and Danny just moving faster than New York City traffic can travel.

Skill/Intellect: I think this is another clear cut category that goes to Danny albeit Po this time isn’t as far behind. I mean I’ll just put it out there, Danny’s longer history kinda goes in conjunction with this wincon, the man’s basically the top Earth martial artist next to people like Shang-Chi, so in my eyes he’s probably more skilled overall than anything in Kung Fu Panda. Not stronger, but more skilled. He's perfectly capable of mixing different fighting styles, he can disarm foes as strong as Spider-Man with nerve strikes, heck he’s even gotten around telepathy via the drunken monkey style. And he’s essentially the Thanos of street tiers in that he’s fought everyone you can think of. Daredevil, Wolverine, Luke Cage, Shang-Chi, Spider-Man, Batroc the Leaper, Misty Knight, Sabretooth, the list goes on, and nearly all of these people are also very skilled martial artists, with Spidey even inventing his own Way of the Spider technique and Wolverine having hundreds of years of experience. But like I said, Po isn’t too far behind either. When he was just learning the ropes of martial arts he was capable of going toe-to-toe with Tai Lung, who according to Po himself mastered the 1,000 scrolls of Kung Fu (and Po is a kung fu nerd, its kinda hard not to take his word for it). And like Danny, Po has also fought countless opponents outside of his pay grade in terms of skill like despite having broken leg, he was able to beat Hundun, a rhino whom Po had taught all his kung fu secrets, consistently matching the Furious Five in training, beating professional wrestler Kwan the Unkillable in a wrestling match, and even matching a being who beat Shifu and contended with Master Oogway named Fenghuang. Now this is a bit of a lesser problem in the fight but Danny is all around smarter as well. General knowledge is kind've irrelevant but combat knowledge is where I think Danny is much better. He can psychologically read his opponents via looking at their stances alone, find the Achilles Tendon of a large monster, use blood and dirt to write in morse code to other Iron Fists, in this insane feat, he calculates the angle and force of Scythe's strikes through a wooden fence, calculating his exact position. Overall, I think Danny is just flat out smarter, and with his additional enhanced senses and stealth that allows him to use his environment better, it goes hand in hand with his combat abilities. But it’s worth mentioning Po isn’t entirely outclassed, since he is immune to pressure points that could incapacitate the Furious Five, something Danny specializes in.

Chi Hax: This is the second big category that determines a lot of who wins like the strength section. Their hax and abilities with chi augmentations are insane and also surprisingly super similar. So like Yoda vs King Mickey, I’m gonna try my best to compare all of their most prominent or most similar hax. Starting with their mind hax. Danny has this neat ability called the mind meld, which allows him to share his consciousness with Po and share each other's memories, thoughts, ideas, which in this case could be used to possibly figure out Po’s strategies or how potent his chi is. Can Po resist this? Likely not, no such indications he can resist this type of mind hax. He can also use chi to hypnotize people with the hypnotic hand technique, so is Po in trouble? Not really. The Fluttering Finger Mindslip can erase memories with just a hand wave, which by itself is more potent then the mind meld and hypnotic hand technique combined, and to add insult to injury if he keeps doing it on you, you flat out forget how to breathe (and Iron Fist has been able to slow down his heartbeat, but he won’t remember how too). Now what about soul hax? Po has the ability to use chi to remove souls from others or manipulate them altogether such as the instance where the pandas worked together to remove Jindiao’s soul. This can easily hinder Danny, as Danny has actually shown multiple times that he is vulnerable to having his soul stolen. Speaking of soul hax, let’s direct our attention to the Spirit Realm. Considerably the afterlife in Kung Fu Panda, for Po it’s basically a home field advantage, since he can now create portals to leave or resurrect himself from the Spirit Realm as long as his soul is intact. This is where Danny is seriously in trouble. Not only does Po have a means of taking him there via the Wuxi Finger Hold, but Danny being able to escape from it is somewhat unlikely unless he kills Po. Why do you ask? As seen in Kung Fu Panda 3, in order to escape the Spirit Realm, one needs to harness a lot of chi, as shown when it took Kai having to absorb every masters chi within the Spirit Realm, and when Po overloaded Kai and the Spirit Realm with his own chi which allowed him to escape. Now, Danny has also been shown capable of using a portal or nexus to travel between dimensions, as shown here;

But in this case, Danny has to absorb large amounts of chi he’s never been able to in his entire life. Yes, he is perfectly capable of chi absorption and energy absorption for that matter, but not to the extent that Po has. This is one of the big deciding factors that can determine if Danny can even survive in the Spirit Realm, since Po can easily use it to his advantage, being able to restore his own chi stolen if Danny were to steal it via concentration and being able to access his Dragon transformation, which is Po at his strongest and fastest. And in a more broad scheme of things, Po can use a lot of the same basic chi hax Danny can. Both can use chi to augment their physicality, both can infuse chi into objects, both can use chi to heal themselves of injuries, both can use meditation, and best of all;

THEY CAN BOTH MAKE CHI DRAGONS. Man this fight is awesome.

Conclusion/Recap: So to recap in case all of that was hard to gauge, here's the advantages Po has that sell him the win against Danny;

• Po is overall stronger and much more durable, and chi augmentation can give him greater speed to match Danny’s and the Dragon transformation overall just outclasses Danny on all physical accounts

• Po’s soul manipulation makes it hard for Danny to do anything, especially if he happens to be taken into the Spirit Realm.

• Fluttering Finger Mindslip outclasses the Mind Meld and Hypnotic Hand Technique abilities in the way of overall mind hax.

• Po’s dimensional travel/portal creation > Danny’s

• Danny has no counter to Wuxi Finger Hold

• Po is immune to pressure points via his own Panda physiology

• Danny’s dimensional travel to escape the Spirit Realm requires a substantially large amount of chi that Danny has never absorbed

• Po can overload Danny with chi, especially when he is in the Spirit Realm

• Po has overall much more techniques and versatile chi abilities like inner peace, monogolian fireball, silken moon touch, thundering wind hammer, and much much more to throw off Danny with his more unorthodox and unpredictable fighting style.

And it's for these reasons that I believe Po will come out on top as the Dragon Warrior in this battle of sheer awesomeness, and will give the Iron Fist a Kung Fu Po-unding with kicks as fast as lightning.

Anyway thanks to all the G1 people for letting me on here, really nice gesture. I guess just going over the episodes prior, I thought Shadow vs Ryuko was okay but nothing special, Doom vs Lex was actually a lot better than I thought it would be, and Greasy Hot Cheese was a really enjoyable, albeit slightly standard, brawl.

Oh and Blake vs Mikasa exists ig.

So you know, I go to the spoilers chat on Discord because I don’t really care and I’m greeted with.

Motherfucking.

PO VS IRON FIST.

Deadass I was shaking when I read that text. It was the most excited I’d been for a Death Battle for 3 seasons. Couldn’t believe it was real. And yet it was.

I think personally Po vs Goku also could have worked, but this is a lot more fair and I think it can pull off a lot of the same stuff. The preview really churned up my interest in the episode higher than ever, it has this really nice wholesome energy to it that is exactly what I wanted. Po’s easily one of my top 5 characters ever, and Iron Fist is really cool as well. I’m just, really excited!

And I spent like half a page talking about irrelevant stuff, whoops.

So, starting off with the stat stuff, Po is sort of all over the place. I will say that the majority of his good stuff is from Paws of Destiny in terms of stats specifically. However, a decent chunk of it requires some context on certain elements in the KFP universe, so let’s just go slowly here.

In the KFP series, every living entity has a pool of chi within them. This chi generally lays dormant, but with enough training it can be pushed to the surface in order to perform certain abilities. However, all chi, no matter where it ends up, originates from one place: the Wellspring.

The Wellspring has a lot of statements attached to it. It’s regarded as the source of all chi in the universe, the source of all light in the universe, an endless fount of energy, etc. Basically it’s a giant chi battery. You can interpret a lot of these statements as metaphorical, but in the series itself these statements are usually made by people with intimate knowledge of the Wellspring, or literal gods in the verse. And when the Wellspring is freed from the White Bone Demon’s control, it does things like cause clouds to part, the sun to come out, flowers to bloom, and ends a massive drought. So clearly its effects are, at least to some extent, physical.

How does this affect Po?

In the series, the Wellspring is ultimately absorbed by the villain, Dragon Master Jindiao, in order to reclaim his true body. In this state, Jindiao is basically a god, and is far more powerful than almost any other character in the series.

However, Po, while in his dragon form, was still able to go toe to toe with Jindiao, and even surpass him at some points. Since Jindiao was amped by the Wellspring, all the statements regarding its power now scale to Po. But that’s not even the extent of it. Using the Wellspring’s power, Jindiao is able to break out of the Spirit Realm with just pure force.

Now, it should be clarified that this is different to what Po and Kai did in Kung Fu Panda 3, where they used portals. So what I’m about to say does not scale to Kai, the method that Jindiao used is completely different and involved punching a literal hole in the fabric of the realm. That, and the Four Constellations state it has never been done before.

Blue Dragon, one of the former Constellations (who pretty much knows what he’s talking about) states that “the Spirit Realm is a place of great power, and it would take an even greater power to find a way out”. Combined with all the statements about the Wellspring’s energy levels, and how its power strengthened Jindiao physically, a good case can be made that what Blue Dragon is implying is that you literally have to have more power than the Spirit Realm itself in order to escape it.

The Spirit Realm is a universe, but we can actually tell how big it is from Master White Tiger, another constellation, who says that the realm has “no true borders”, implying the realm itself is infinite in size. So, Jindiao, in order to escape the realm, had to overpower the energy and power of an infinite universe, implying that Jindiao himself had infinite energy and power when Po fought him. This is even backed up by the previous statement of the Wellspring being an “endless fount of chi”. And while Po did have to be in the Spirit Realm to fight evenly with Jindiao, later events of the series show Po fighting Wellspring-amped foes like the White Bone Demon and staggering them, showing he may be able to downscale from the Wellspring’s power even in the Mortal Realm, which puts Po on a Universal to High Universal level of power in Paws of Destiny.

Of course, I realize this sort of thing is inherently contentious, and some people might choose to slap the outlier moniker on the feat even if they did believe it. And to the outlier argument I say...nah.

Like, yeah, this sort of thing is way above anything else...in the pre-chi era. The pre and post-chi eras of Kung Fu Panda are operating on vastly different scales and you can’t use the standards of the former to judge the latter. That, and universal stuff isn’t even that new to the series. An episode of Legends of Awesomeness was about Po recreating the Eternal Chord to remake the universe and stop the Anti-Chord from unmaking the universe, created by the Yaoguai (One of which is in Paws of Destiny and becomes fodder to Po btw).

But I know that a lot of people still will not be convinced, so let’s go over some of Po’s other feats and scaling, which...are admittedly nowhere even close to the same level as this Wellspring stuff. I mentioned the Constellations earlier, and one of them is known as Black Tortoise, who was capable of using his chi to block and shatter a meteor that was hurtling towards Earth. This would scale to the attacking chi of the user, and Po would likely upscale via fighting Jindiao, who is far above any individual constellation. The feat itself, at face value, has been calced at around Dwarf Star level.

The only major point of contention with this particular feat is that it’s demonstrated in the form of a story Po is telling to the Panda constellations, with no clear indication of whether the flashback imagery is from Po’s perspective or Bao’s. So it’s possible that the size of the meteor, and its speed, were fairly exaggerated. However, given that the master put up a shield to block the meteor in the first place, you can argue its effects were still potent enough to cause devastating damage, with power ranging anywhere from Town Level to City to Country when based off other notable meteors.

After that, there’s a couple other feats. Po scales above the Sacred Hammer of Lei-Lang, which can shatter mountains. He has a cloud parting feat in Paws of Destiny that gets about Town level overall. And then after that there’s a few bit feats like Ke-Pa destroying the Jade Palace, a small storm feat by Lei Kung in the comics, Kim the Invincible pushing apart the Great Wall of China, and Tigress absolutely pulverizing a boulder in Secrets of the Scroll, all of which Po can scale to. Really, though, the meteor feat is the big one outside of the Wellspring stuff.

The meteor also serves as a decent speed feat, as reacting to it based on the flashback would be about sub-relativistic+ to relativistic, and even a normal meteor’s speed would be about high hypersonic. At the moment that’s probably the peak of Po’s speed, with the rest of Po’s feats being either hypersonic for ablating his hands, supersonic for redirecting cannonballs, or subsonic via scaling to characters who react to arrows. All of Po’s feats that could be higher either vague timeframes or distances, like Po crossing part of the Spirit Realm, or aren’t really feats at all, like Po’s consciousness traveling to the Spirit Realm in 23 seconds. But, relativistic is still good.

In terms of Iron Fist, I think Bang already did a pretty solid job covering why Herald Iron Fist is just a little bit sketchy, but he does still have some pretty impressive feats. He can frequently trade blows with characters like Captain America and Spider-Man without the Iron Fist, who can survive attacks that level cities. The Iron Fist itself also allowed Danny to survive bombs that quote unquote “make Hiroshima look like a sparkler”, and were set to blow up K’un-Lun, along with dealing damage on the level of hydrogen bombs or hundreds of megatons, a pretty easy Mountain level feat.

However, arguably Iron Fist’s greatest feat is being able to stand up to the power of Master Khan. Khan, in an earlier scene, was capable of creating an entire universe and passed control of it to a character called Ninja, who Iron Fist defeated while they were in said universe. Later, he even absorbed the power from Master Khan’s Flames of the Faltine and Bolts of Bishru. This sort of thing can arguably put Iron Fist on a universal scale of power, comparable to Po. All around, very impressive stuff.

Speed-wise, Iron Fist is a Marvel street tier, so he’s pretty damn quick. He’s comparable to or upscales from characters like Captain America and Daredevil, who can react at the speed of light or within the span of nanoseconds, respectively. That, and he can keep up with Spider-Man tiers, who can dance around Cyclops’ lightspeed Optic Blasts. Lightspeed to FTL stuff is pretty set in stone for the character. You can potentially argue he scales to suppressed Heralds in speed at least, since he can tag some of them, but many of these are likely unreliable for the same reasons that scaling power-wise is unreliable: a lot of these Heralds could be holding back. A lot. Still, pretty quick, befitting the mightiest of Marvel street tiers. That said, Po can somewhat close the gap with the perception boost he gets from the Eyes of Bushido technique, so it might not be that big of a hurdle.

So, looking at the stats, you can sort of divide them into categories:

Universal Po vs Universal Iron Fist: Po due to scaling to energy overpowering an infinite universe vs Iron Fist doing it to a finite universe.

Meteor Feat Po vs Mountain Level Iron Fist: Po if you treat the meteor as either a life-wiper or at face value, Iron Fist otherwise.

No Meteor Feat Po vs Mountain Level Iron Fist: Iron Fist wins.

Out of these scenarios, I definitely see DB going with 2.1. I don’t think they’ll treat the meteor as Dwarf Star, but given the context and the fact that Black Tortoise put up a shield at all, I see them putting it around evenly with something like the dinosaur-killer meteor, which is still leagues beyond Iron Fist’s best capabilities in that level.

Surprisingly, though, you can still make cases for either character even with a stat discrepancy against them. Both have the ability to return to the fight after their death (Po because the Spirit Realm is his afterlife and he can go between it and the mortal realm at any time, Iron Fist because he can use his chi to make a new body for himself). Both of these abilities have solid counters (Iron Fist needs to put his soul into the body and have enough chi to make the body to begin with, and Po can be killed in the Spirit Realm outright). They also both have hax to help make these resurrection counters feasible, so part of this debate comes down to how their hax counter each other. So, let’s compare.

Starting with the hax that is countered for both:

-Both can resist the other’s mental manipulation.

-Both have a resistance to paralysis.

-Both can resist the others’ pressure points (Iron Fist cuz of being able to control his own nervous system)

Iron Fist’s counters:

-Iron Fist being able to fight while blind counters the Golden Lotus Clap.

-Iron Fist being able to open a dimensional nexus counters the Wu-Xi Finger Hold.

Po’s counters:

-Po being able to regain his chi in the Spirit Realm counters Iron Fist’s chi absorption.

-Po being able to literally kick mental intruders out of his mind counters the mind meld.

Oh and if Danny’s magic proof suit exists then it doesn’t really matter because Po doesn’t use magic teehee.

After that, though, Po just has a lot more abilities at his disposal. He can create a vacuum effect with the Mongolian Fireball, he can cut Iron Fist mid-fight with the Sword of Heroes, he can remove Iron Fist’s soul from his body and seal it in the Spirit Urn if the fight ever takes Po to the Spirit Realm (which counters the body creation Iron Fist has), etc. If he gets his optional equipment that just adds on phasing, time travel, invisibility, and ghost infection, only a couple of which Iron Fist has solid counters to. The soul hax in particular would definitely work against Iron Fist, since it’s worked on him in the past, and in a very similar fashion of having his soul ripped out of his body.

Po even counters chi stealing with the fact that even if Iron Fist did steal Po’s chi, Po can reclaim it, and fought against a character like Jindiao, who had absorbed not only Po’s chi, but the chi of the entire universe, and held his own. There is no way Iron Fist can absorb enough chi to overwhelm Po. In fact, Iron Fist might not even be able to absorb Po’s chi, period. Not only has Iron Fist struggled to absorb chi from opponents on command in the past, but characters like Jindiao who tried to absorb Po’s chi when they were weaker than him just flat out could not do it. And while this is very unlikely to happen, there’s even a possibility that absorbing too much of Po’s chi could overload Iron Fist and make him explode like Kai did. So, overall, I don’t see chi-stealing really being much of a factor in this fight.

In terms of the miscellaneous factors, Iron Fist skillstomps but Po is more unpredictable as a fighter, with skill not really being a major factor here anyway. Iron Fist has more experience. Iron Fist is smarter (you seeing a pattern here?)

Really, what’s messing Iron Fist up here is not his lack of advantages, but rather that his advantages are outweighed by Po’s monstrous advantages in strength, durability, and hax, along with Po just having better counters to Iron Fist’s best abilities. That is, of course, if you buy the meteor feat Po scales to being really powerful. Gonna just say right now, that meteor feat is going to be the clincher of this fight. I don’t see Iron Fist getting above Mountain Level, and nothing Po has besides the Wellspring stuff (and arguably Sun Wukong’s dream dimension warping feat which is at least Moon level) can get above that threshold. But even if Po is a little weaker, you can still argue a win for him just due to the potency of his resurrection, and getting a hax win. It’s just a lot harder.

For these reasons, I’m going to tentatively side with Po, the Dragon Warrior of the Valley of Peace, taking the win here. But I would not be surprised at all if Danny won due to just scaling the characters differently than I chose to here. It would just make me really sad.

Here’s hoping Po spring-rolls his way to victory!

LESSSSSSSSFUCKINGGOOOOOOOOOOOO MY MOST WANTED IS HAPPENING.

Hey y’all, it's the Big Chungus enthusiast and the funny funky monkey himself: EpicMonkey! Here for the very first time with the (awesome) Po vs Iron Fist verdict!!! I did not expect this one so soon, but I’ll take it! I am very excited for this one. Easily the best matchup for both and everything that has come out for this matchup so far has been really good and I am so happy about it. Po is one of my favorite characters ever and Iron Fist is also a really cool comics character from what I have seen. I have made several pieces of art for this fight and have barely been able to survive weeks Uno and Dos for this one because of how hyped I am. 

But let’s cut the chitty chitty chat chat, as for who I think is gonna win? Well I’m more of a gamer than a debater so this will be shorter than the others. Both have a number of advantages over the others. Po is more than likely stronger and more durable, he has more of an arsenal to pull from and more of his arsenal will work on IF than vice versa. While Danny is faster than Po, is more experienced, skilled, and better in combat and has a wincon with his abilities and better speed. But overall, I think Po’s advantages carry more weight to them. He might be slower and less skilled but he is a very unpredictable fighter. If he takes Iron Fist off guard and manages to get an opening he can end the fight then and there with the strength advantage and is durable enough to keep in the game long enough and has resistance to some of Danny’s hax to keep in longer. He might not have a resistance to every bit of hax so Iron Fist has a win con as well with his chi absorption but this isn’t as reliable as Po just hitting him. Not only can Po restore his chi but it’s just not something that ensures a victory considering the stat gap, and it’s also not something he uses all the time. Po has as well defeated characters with much more experience than him like Tai Lung and Jindiao, the latter of which had been training and planning for a century to go through with his plan, making Danny’s experience edge not as big as it would originally be. This isn't to say that characters like Tai Lung are more skilled than Danny, but it definitely helps Po a lot in the fight. It doesn’t help that Po has better ways of getting around death and his arsenal size only adds to his advantage of unpredictability. 

So ya, kinda short but I think I explained it well enough. In the end, I think Po shall take this Dragon Warrior duel! Looks like Danny’s about to feel the thundaaae!

It’s been a while, but I’m happy to be back here with these wonderful fellows. The last two times I delivered a verdict, it was for the one-two punch combo of Zukoroki and ArchieWally, a couple of episodes that are certainly memorable if nothing else. Comparatively, I’ve done a lot more this time around, which was rather fun and exciting. I hope the blog has been reflective of our efforts in a positive & convenient-to-digest way. (And I especially hope that the intro was good, I wonder who wrote it?)

Iron Fist VS Po is a matchup that I can fully admit to have been firmly against at one point, but I’ve evidently warmed up to it immensely recently. Who knew that simply thinking two characters are awesome is reason enough to get excited? Po is one of the greatest, most beloved animated movie characters of all time for good reason, and Iron Fist is easily one of the most underrated Marvel gems around. All in all, this is just a match with really good vibes, so I’m excited to see how it turns out. 

I primarily researched Iron Fist, but I’ve watched the key episodes responsible for most of Po’s scaling & lore. As such, I went about this mostly from the perspective of someone arguing for Danny, which may be evident below in how I came to my conclusion.

Chi Absorption

Easily one of Iron Fist’s best abilities to bring to this fight, on paper, it seems like a huge advantage. After all, everyone knows Po was susceptible to having his Chi stolen by Kai in the third KFP movie, so if Danny can do that and he’s faster, surely he can get around the gap in power that way, right?

Well, not really. At first glance, it does seem like Danny can just up-n-suck up someone’s Chi whenever he wants, but that doesn’t seem to be the case upon further inspection. Against Davos, Danny needed to first defeat him in combat before he could retake his Iron Fist powers and chi. Against the Liu Shi, Danny also needed to defeat the Masters before he could take their Chi. In every instance I read of Chi Absorption, the absorber needed to be pretty darn close to their target in order to pull it off. 

So, okay. Danny’s fast enough, he could just blitz Po and steal all that chi… but that’s ignoring the fact that Po can levitate, making it less likely Danny will get Po stuck in one place for long enough to absorb, and has access to the Spirit Realm, where his mobility becomes even greater, and Po can restore all his lost Chi. 

Additionally, it’s a huge stretch to say that Danny could use Po’s own chi to fight at a similar power level. Let’s just compare Chi-Storage; Po could fight a guy who had all the Chi in the universe, whereas Iron Fist could contain all the Chi of K’un-Lun’s residents. Bear in mind also that those residents had to survive their home being destroyed, so it’s definitely not all of K’un-Lun that ever was, strictly speaking. Even if you assume EVERY single resident of K’un Lun can compare to Danny’s special Shou Lou Dragon chi, that’s still a long, long ways off from competing with all the chi in the universe. 

Add on as well that Po has fought and defeated people who specialize in stealing Chi, while Danny rarely ever does so, and I feel confident saying that Chi Absorption will not be enough to save the Iron Fist here. It is a good ability to have, but he’d need more.

Soul Shenanigans

In Paws of Destiny, the Four Constellations (young Panda warriors who inherit the Chi of some old ancient masters called the Four Constellations) are able to use all four of their powers at once to forcibly remove someone’s soul from his body. Later on in the series, the Wellspring (the source of the Constellations’ powers) is destroyed, dispersing into everyone in the world, meaning Po should now have access to the same Chi that the Constellations used.

The argument, as I follow it, is that Po, having the Spirit Urn and Wellspring Chi, should be able to remove someone’s soul from their body like the Constellations did, and then suck their soul up Danny Phantom-style in the Spirit Urn. 

Does Iron Fist have a counter for this? Well, kind of, probably. He was able to manifest himself back into a physical form after being rendered into a spirit-thing by Master Kahn. Po’s soul stuff revolves around first removing the body from the soul, which is done via a constant stream of chi forcing the spirit out. If this lands, Danny has no way to prevent his soul being pushed out, but as this showing suggests, he could also probably return to his body so long as his spirit is intact.

Of course, the Spirit Urn would probably make that impossible for Danny, so it may depend on what one considers standard equipment for Po. To me, however, I don’t think this matters too much either way; it’s not a technique Po would be likely to use, and it’s inconclusive nature relies on equipment that could go either way depending on the interpreter. 

In short, soul shenanigans probably aren’t a huge deal either.

Mind hax

I’ve seen it said that Po and Danny both have ways of mind-haxxing the other, or that their resistances are about equal. I’m not sure I’d wave it off so simply, though. Iron Fist has definitely resisted and overcome mind control before, but he’s also been completely helpless against it more often than Po, and even in instances where he overcomes it, he tends to need time or help. 

Take for instance when Danny fought Black Panther, and couldn’t break from mind control at all until T’Challa saved him from it. Danny even had all his powers restored to him at the time of his mind control, so he should have had the means to free himself. 

Then there’s Danny’s mind hax, the hypnotism and the Mind Meld. The hypnotism is unlikely to keep Po down for long, given that he has better showings of resisting mind manipulation, and not only that, but the hypnotism really hasn’t been shown to do much. All we see is Orson Randall use it to make some guy do what he wants, but the combat application of it seems dubious at best; to hinge Danny’s entire win on an ability he’s never used in combat seems unreliable, to be blunt. Comparatively, Po’s memory erasure seems more relevant in the middle of battle. It also helps that we’ve seen Po do it before, whereas Danny’s only said he could use the hypnotic hand technique.

All in all, I doubt this is a game-changing factor either. If Danny gets hit by the memory erasure, he likely doesn’t have any counter to it. If Danny somehow lands his hypnotism, it may work on Po a bit, but shouldn’t be very reliable. In either case, it mostly just delays the biggest elephant in the room, which is stats.

Dimensional Portal Nexus Whatevers

For a long time during research, there was a claim that Danny could open portals and create a “nexus point” or something along those lines. What I found in my research was that Danny could, in fact, create portals reaching across time and space to access other dimensions - he does exactly this to save his student, Pei - using a technique found in the Book of the Iron Fist. It’s brief, and we don’t actually see the portal itself, but it stands to reason that Danny probably could in fact use it to escape the Spirit Realm if he were brought there.

I dunno what any of that has to do with Nexuses, but the portal stuff does exist. 

Granted, Po can also go to the Spirit World on command, so Danny’s being able to escape doesn’t do much other than delay the inevitable. He’d have to finish the fight, meaning more often and likely than not, the fight will be brought to Po’s home field.

Overall

So if I don’t think the mind hax, soul shenanigans, or chi absorption are going to dictate this fight, then who do I think wins? Well, it’s pretty simple. 

Black Tortoise’s meteor feat, combined with the Wellspring’s massive quantity of chi, should in my opinion be enough to suggest that Po can simply overpower Iron Fist. Not to mention, Po has plenty of other abilities that can and should aid him in battle here, such as healing, Bushido Eyes, and flight. Danny may be able to occasionally swing above his weight class, but to say Danny is equal to those higher tier characters in Marvel is easily disputable. Just looking at their advantages side-by-side, Po has the simpler path toward victory, the better abilities to help him get there, and the battlefield control to assure that he does. 

To recap...

• Iron Fist may be able to escape the Spirit Realm, but he still needs to finish Po off, who  can bring the fight there any time.

• Iron Fist can absorb Po’s Chi, but has never absorbed Chi on the level of Po. Po can also just restore it whenever.

• Po can fly, amp his speed with his chi, and see in slow motion, helping to lessen the speed gap

• Black Tortoise’s Constellation Chi is derived from the Wellspring, which Po has within him now. Po, as the Dragon Warrior, should be comparable to some degree to the Constellations anyway, so Po scales to the meteor feat just fine.

• Po has fought people who have absorbed far more Chi than Danny ever has.

• Danny may be able to counter Po’s soul removal to some degree. If Po has the Spirit Urn, however, then that’s a clear win condition for Po.

• Danny’s hypnosis and mind meld shouldn’t be a big deal for Po to deal with, whereas Po’s memory erasure would be a huge issue for Iron Fist.

Iron Fist may be more skilled, faster by most measures, and have some useful abilities, but Po is simply too powerful, versatile, and accustomed to handling Danny’s own powers. All in all, Po should ensure that this fight doesn’t drag-on.

OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD

Heyo back again for another verdict, this was certainly a fun one to work on. First though are my quick thoughts on the previous episodes. Shadow vs Ryuko lived up to everything me and my lads hoped for and then some, it was a fun ride and I was happy with how it turned out. Lex vs Doom I actively did not care but ironically became and still is my favorite episode of the season with how entertaining and well made it was. Geese vs Heihachi was hype and the episode was pretty cool. Then came Blake vs Mikasa which was aight with a banger track. After that though I wasn’t really sure on what the next time could be as most of the confirmed characters had appeared so I went into this a little excited on what it could be.

Like honestly it’s so jarring to see this matchup actually happen given how ridiculous it is on the surface, like it’s some joke matchup. But it surprisingly works for what it is and given everything that we’ve seen on the episode and the hype surrounding it, it’s shaping up to be a real highlight of the season for me and plenty of other people. While I have little to say in regards to Iron Fist, from the little I’ve seen from him in the shows he’s been in I can say he was cool to watch in them with Ultimate Spider-Man being a real highlight for the character for me personally and has a cool design and abilities. I can acknowledge the fans he has and respect him for who he is. Po on the other hand is one of my favorite characters of all time from a well regarded series which is my personal favorite dreamworks movie series and one of my favorite animated movies of all time. I’ve also watched plenty of episodes from the show and recently jammed out to the incredibly catchy theme song which if you haven’t gotten it stuck in your head, shame on you. This series was my childhood and re-experiencing it all with my pals was great and this being the first animated movie to appear on death battle is a real treat, seeing big ol Po in the show. So I’m very much looking forward to this episode all around and what it brings for these two dragon warriors.

Now let's get into the meat of things here and talk about which of these two would come out on top. Off the bat the big factor that gets tossed around a lot in this matchup is the AP for both and more specifically Iron Fist which turns this fight from a stomp in either one's favor. The major factor being is whether or not Iron Fist is herald and in my personal opinion, no. Bang already addressed the points against it pretty well but in short, they’re all very dubious and out of context for the most part. So without all of those herald shenanigans, Danny would be placed at around mountain level with his Iron Fist via defeating Radion and would physically be around large town to small city via upscaling from other marvel street levelers as he reaches quite high in the street tier scale. Now for Po, being that he’s the dragon warrior, he’d naturally scale to a lot of the notable feats in the verse. The best of which is when master Black Tortoise had destroyed a meteor with his shield which came out to around planet to dwarf star level. Soooooo ye, Po takes AP quite handily by a massive amount. For speed though Danny would also naturally scale to rela and light speed stuff being a high tier street leveler while Po only gets around to sub rela via scaling to master Black Tortoise creating that shield at that speed. So Iron Fist takes speed easily which yeah, it’s obvious, Po’s a big slow panda after all. 

So Iron Fist absolutely blitzes Po but is unable to harm him physically and gets one shot via the massive difference in AP. Seems to be pretty cut and dry for Po but we’re not done yet. Both of these two have quite the display of skill, abilities and chi packing so Danny might still be in this. For skill, it goes to Danny fairly handily as he’s much more disciplined and experienced than Po who is prone to be lazy and goof off at times. Both strangely have a good amount of the same abilities and counters to each other's abilities. There’s quite a bit to go through but the more notable ones is that Po’s mind hax would be more effective in this case as he has better resistances to them which Danny lacks and can permanently remove his soul with the spirit urn if he’s in the spirit realm which would be leave Danny unable to manifest himself back from. There’s a lot of other one time use equipment Po has at his disposal which Danny could probably counter a good amount of but would definitely be overwhelming to keep up with and leave Po in a good advantage. Finally we come to their chi based abilities and Danny is in a good position as he’s able to steal Po’s chi so he could possibly turn the tide. However Po can easily restore his chi back with the Wellspring’s massive amount of chi at his disposal and Po could overload Iron Fist with a massive amount of chi like he did to Kai which gives Po the clear edge. So overall while Iron Fist has a good amount of abilities, skill and speed on his side, Po has the power, durability, versatility and superior chi to come out as the true dragon warrior.
