“But can they beat Goku though?” - Every versus debater ever
Gogeta, the Metamoran fusion of Goku and Vegeta.
Vegito, the Potara fusion of Goku and Vegeta.
Nerds across the world have debated a large variety of match ups, would it be crossing franchises or within a single home turf. Sides have been chosen, battles have been fought, a keyboard or a million smashed, and so on.
But today we look into one of the most infamous character debates of all time, between the two fusions of Dragon Ball’s most iconic characters, Goku and Vegeta. One made from a dance, the other earrings.
Will the result of the Fusion Dance bring Vegito to his knees, or will the Potara’s miracle cut Gogeta to shreds? It’s time to come together (sus) and decide which Fusion will be victorious in a Death Battle!
Before We Begin…
Both of these characters are very similar in a lot of ways, which includes their techniques, forms, scaling, etc. Thus multiple sections of the blog that are normally separated will be condensed into single sections for both Fusions, with it being specified whether something is an exclusive trait to Gogeta or Vegito when needed.
Also, even though the official crew has clarified that it is aiming to completely composite the characters with all feats and forms they could possibly have, they will not be receiving any special equipment or video game only abilities. So no Key Sword or RPG stat buffs, just a good ol’ fashioned Dragon Ball throw down.
Background
Goku and Vegeta
On a faraway planet on the other side of the universe, the Saiyans were thriving. With new technology and a new ruler, they were ready to crush the universe with an iron fist. Meanwhile, the next generation had just been born. Prince Vegeta IV was born as the next heir to the throne, with the second highest recorded battle power in history. Meanwhile, Kakarot was born... a bit more humble.
Not many would expect these Saiyans to collide, and they didn't for many, many years. Kakarot was sent to a weak and primitive planet called Ee-arth (I think it's pronounced Earth), and Vegeta was battling on other worlds. This was due to a supposed meteor that struck their planet, though it was just a cover up for Frieza destroying Planet Vegeta. Throughout their lives, they grew, not just in size, but in power. Kakarot became Son Goku, the greatest martial artist and protector of planet Earth. Vegeta eradicated world after world under Frieza's rule. For many years, they had continued their lives without one another, until one fateful day...
In the greatest Saiyan duel in the history of Planet Vegeta, Son Goku and Prince Vegeta did battle that shook the Earth to its very core. With the help of his friends, Goku stopped Vegeta from destroying his world, as Vegeta was forced to escape.
However, this would not be the last of their story. Goku and Vegeta got closer and closer since this battle, as enemies, as rivals, and then... as friends. On Namek, Vegeta cried to Goku to push him to be the next Super Saiyan, which Goku fulfilled.
Back on Earth, Vegeta pushed himself to become a Super Saiyan to catch up with his rival. They fought begrudgingly alongside each other for many years, as Vegeta became one of Earth's most valuable saviors. Together, Goku and Vegeta have battled gods, demons, emperors, and even other universes. What was once a fierce hatred between enemies became a bond between Saiyan brothers.
Gogeta
Son Goku, the legendary hero who saved the universe countless times, and his rival. The Prince of All Saiyans Vegeta. These two Saiyans' legendary rivalry is one for the ages. They're always competing to get stronger and surpass each other, even when facing world ending threats. But on rare occasions, they must put that rivalry aside and combine their power to form something greater than the sum of its parts…
So when the demon Janemba awoke and the dead began to rise (including Kanye’s BFF!), it was only natural they'd be there to stop it. But their individual power wasn't enough. Luckily Goku had learnt of a technique from the Metamorans. A special dance that allowed two people to combine their power to create something greater. While the dance itself embarrassed Vegeta and they did fail initially, Goku and Vegeta eventually mastered the technique. Giving birth to a new warrior: The Legendary Fusion, Gogeta!
Now the Metamoran Fusion Dance only has a 30 minute time limit, but that was more than enough time for Gogeta to wipe the floor with Janemba and save the day. A legendary first showing worthy of a Fusion of the two greatest warriors.
Gogeta's power would be needed again though, when the negative energy of the Dragon Balls gave birth to Syn Shenron. At the height of his power as Omega Shenron, the situation looked grim. But Goku and Vegeta once again performed the dance, one again summoning the Might of Gogeta. This time in the powerful form of Super Saiyan 4.
But Gogeta wasn't content to merely exist in non-canon movies and sequels. His power couldn't be contained, so when Frieza returned to his old ways following the Tournament of Power, bringing Broly with him to rage against the two Saiyans, they only had one choice. After some more reluctance from Vegeta, they performed the dance once again and the Fusion Warrior was reborn, now in the main canon. Wielding the godlike power of Super Saiyan Blue, Gogeta clashed with Broly in a battle that tore apart the very fabric of reality.
That would be far from the last time the two Saiyans would combine their power in this way. During the battle against the Godslayer Hearts, the clash against the Crimson-Masked Saiyan, and the many adventures of the Time Patrol, Gogeta would always arrive when things got dire. For there are few, if any, that can challenge the endless power of this fusion warrior.
Vegito
“I'm the fusion of Vegeta and Kakarot. Guess that makes me Vegito!”
When Majin Buu threatened all life with his insatiable hunger, no one could stop him. Gohan, Piccolo, and even the Metamoran fusion of Goten and Trunks, Gotenks. One by one they all fell. Luckily the Old Supreme Kai revealed a secret technique, a way to create a warrior capable of matching this threat: the Fusion technique facilitated through the Potara Earrings. By putting these on one ear each, two people can fuse for 1 hour (or permanently if you're a Supreme Kai). Goku and Vegeta used a set of Potara Earrings to fuse together, and thus, we were graced with the Potara Fusion: Vegito!
With the sheer power he possessed, Vegito was able to treat Super Buu like a game. Not even being turned into candy by Buu could hamper Vegito. It was only when Buu absorbed him that the Fusion Warrior was defeated and defused into his components.
But like with his counterpart, he made a rather super return. When the Supreme Kai of Divine Justice enacted his Zero Mortal Plan and fused with his alternate self Goku Black, the all powerful Merged Zamasu was born. So in order to defeat him, Goku and Vegeta donned the Potara Earrings again to bring Vegito back. Now empowered with Super Saiyan Blue, Vegito was able to contend with Zamasu's merged state.
That would be far from the last time the two Saiyans would combine their power in this way. During the battle against the Evil Saiyan Cumber, the clash against the demon Fu and his Universal Tree, and the many adventures of the Time Patrol, Vegito would always be brought back whenever things got dire. For there are few, if any, who can overcome the sheer might of the Potara Warrior.
Fusion Methods
Gogeta
Fusion Dance
The Metamoran Fusion Dance is a special technique created by the Metamoran people; a dance that two warriors can perform which allows them to merge together into one superior warrior. Goku learned this technique from some Metamorans he met on the Other World. Although there was some reluctance on Vegeta's end, he and Goku use the Fusion Dance to merge into the powerful warrior Gogeta.
When performed correctly, the resulting fusion is one several times stronger than the sum of its parts. But if there are any mistakes, a far weaker fusion is the result. The fusees must have equal power levels, and must perform the dance perfectly. Failure to do so will result in a skinny or fat fusion. This fusion has a time limit of 30 minutes, which can decrease with extensive energy use.
Vegito
Potara Earrings
The Potara are a set of earrings worn by the Kaioshin, the gods of the world of Dragon Ball. While seemingly only decorative at first glance, the Potara in fact allow for fusion. When two nearby people place a single Potara earring on opposite ears, they’ll suddenly crash into each other, merging upon contact into a single entity with massively enhanced power. These earrings are what allow for the creation of Vegito when worn by Goku and Vegeta.
The resulting fusion has a number of unique mechanisms depending on the nature of the people involved. For example, while it was originally thought that the fusion resulting from Potara was a permanent transformation that could not be normally undone, it was revealed in Dragon Ball Super that this only applies when one of the fusees is a Supreme Kai. If both of the fusees are mortals, such as is the case with Goku and Vegeta, then the fusion only lasts for one hour at most, with this time limit decreasing with extensive energy use.
Of note is that the Potara earrings are stated in multiple guidebooks and auxiliary sources to provide a greater level of power than the Fusion Dance. While certain sources say otherwise, such as a Weekly Shonen Jump article claiming Vegito would only beat Gogeta if the fight ran longer than 30 minutes, and promo material for the Broly movie describing the two fusions as “equally-matched ultimate trump cards”, these sources are generally more tertiary and have caveats.
For example, the Weekly Shonen Jump article is likely specifically comparing Fusion Reborn Gogeta to Buu Saga Vegito given the images, and so could be chalked up to differences in the Goku and Vegeta involved in each fusion. The Weekly Jump promo piece for Broly could simply be saying that the two fusions are equally valid trump cards for a dangerous situation, due to how much stronger they are than basically any enemy, and not necessarily that they’re outright equal in power. These statements are all in-reference to the canon storyline, so it’s difficult to say if they’d apply with Heroes in mind, though a similar statement for the Potara is made in Xenoverse 2.
Abilities
Saiyan Physiology
As the fusion of two Saiyans, both Gogeta and Vegito inherited the physiology that made the Saiyan race feared by even tyrants and gods. In addition to their natural talent for combat, the Saiyan blood running through their veins allows them to tap into the Zenkai boost to grow stronger if they can recover from a near death experience. It also grants them access to many forms such as Super Saiyan and theoretically the Great Ape, all of which will be discussed below.
Martial Arts Skill
Being the Fusions of the naturally-skilled Goku and Vegeta, Gogeta and Vegito are extremely potent fighters. Both know the fighting styles of their unfused counterparts, and can perform any move their unfused counterparts can, and actually do have some unique moves when compared to one another.
Both
Rock, Scissors 'N' Paper: Goku shouts "Jan Ken" followed by either "Gu", "Chyoki" or "Pa". Followed by either a punch, a poke to the eyes, or an open palm strike respectively.
Super God Fist: Goku charges Ki in his hand and delivers a powerful punch.
Double Axe Handle: Goku cups his hands together and then slams them into his opponent.
Pressure Point Attacks: An attack that targets specific weak points in an opponent. By striking these specific points, one can stun, paralyze or even kill an opponent.
Super God Shock Flash: A powerful punch to the gut that can launch an opponent away with a powerful shockwave (not the universe shaking kind).
Grudgeless Strike: Goku moves around at a rapid speed before launching himself at an opponent and delivering a powerful punch to the face.
Godly Strike: A powerful upside down strike.
Dragonthrow: Goku grabs one of his opponents limbs and spins them around before throwing them away.
Full-Nelson: Goku grabs his opponent from behind, restricting their movement and allowing others to attack.
Dragon Flash Fist: Goku charges forward and delivers an overhead punch. He can also perform a downward kick called Dragon Flash Kick.
Flurry Kick: Goku propels himself up with a flurry of kicks.
Super Dash Kick: Similar to Goku's Dragon Flash Fist. Vegeta charges forward and delivers a kick.
Divine Void Strike: Goku charges forward and strikes an opponent with his elbow.
Crushing Knee Kick: A rising knee strike Vegeta can perform.
Interceptor Kick: A downward kick Vegeta performs from the air.
Deadly Knee Drop: Vegeta positions himself above his opponent and slams down on them with a double knee drop.
On a scale of one to ten, I'll give you a three!: Vegeta grabs his opponent by the face and slams them into the ground.
I have no use for Saiyans that can't move: Vegeta grabs his opponent by the legs and throws them up into the air.
Final Blow: Vegeta launches himself at an opponent and quickly delivers a powerful strike to the stomach.
Final Strike: an unblockable attack that Vegeta can use to send an opponent flying.
Ignite Strike: A powerful strike that Vegeta uses in Super Saiyan Blue.
Gogeta
(FighterZ gives a lot of random things names, huh)
Soul Strike: A fearsome charging knee attack that can lead into another knee attack and a dropkick.
Rising Vortex: Gogeta does a charging somersault jump that damages from all angles.
Multiplex Afterimage: Gogeta creates two after images that can do specific Ki attacks.
Punisher Drive: Gogeta charges towards his opponent in a blinding flash like he did Janemba, dealing multiple hits in the blink of an eye.
Saiyan Kick: An upwards kick that can be followed up with an axe kick called Head Crusher, or a low sweep called Leg Breaker.
Lightning Hammer: Gogeta rushes towards his opponent and lands a strong gut punch.
Meteor Strike: A rushing overhead kick.
Ultimate Impact: Gogeta charges forward at the opponent in a ridiculous blitz, coming from forward, then to behind, to deliver a literally explosive kick.
Comet Strike: Gogeta lunges forward and delivers three devastating gut punches to the opponent.
Vegito
(Credit to the FighterZ Wiki, again)
Spiral Heel Shot: Vegito does two roundhouse kicks in quick succession, and if the first kick hits, he does a flurry of kicks instead of the second roundhouse.
Atomic Buster: Vegito leaps towards the opponent and grabs them before tossing them in the direction he came from.
Complete Shot: Vegito delivers two gut punches to his opponent before uppercutting their chin and kicking them away. Vegito chases after them and punches them again in the stomach before roundhouse kicking them away.
Vegito Combination: Vegito delivers a flying kick followed by a rapid barrage of downward punches and uppercuts before finishing with a drop kick and a knee to the ground.
Savage Strike: Vegito teleports above his opponent and covers his fist in blue aura before delivering a devastating punch to the opponent, knocking them into the ground.
Ki Manipulation
As with all living beings in Dragon Ball, Gogeta and Vegito are both capable of using Ki, the natural life energy within all things. They can sense the Ki of others, and with Ki, they can fly, create powerful auras and barriers, and perform a variety of different attacks and techniques.
Both
Kamehameha: Goku’s iconic signature attack; a powerful blue beam is blasted at the opponent.
Spirit Bomb: A giant orb created from the energy of nearby life forms with huge destructive capability, with the drawback being that it takes a very long time to charge.
Galick Gun: One of Vegeta’s main energy attacks; a purple beam is blasted at the opponent.
Solar Flare: By placing his hands to his face and shouting out the technique name, Goku can fire out a white light, blinding anyone who looks at it.
Dirty Fireworks: By quite literally pointing at his opponent, Vegeta can detonate them on the spot.
Big Bang Attack: A blue ball of energy that Vegeta charges and fires, strong enough to create mushroom clouds, or even a stadium full of innocent civilians lmao losers.
Final Flash: Putting his hands together, Vegeta forms a ball of electricity, and when fully charged, a giant yellow energy wave capable of destroying the planet.
Mafuba: Also known as the Evil Containment Wave, this technique can seal anyone inside of a container with a “demon seal” ofuda on it.
Spirit Sword: Vegeta can create a sword made of Ki to attack others or to grab on to surfaces to slow his movement.
Dragon Fist: One of Goku’s greatest techniques, where he lunges forward and smashes through an enemy’s torso, with an explosion of Ki in the shape of a golden dragon powering up the attack further.
Gogeta
Finish Sign: Gogeta taunts the opponents, slightly increasing his own Ki while powering up his next big Ki attack.
Bluff Kamehameha: A Kamehameha that baits the opponent into thinking Gogeta is about to fire a devastating beam, only to bust out a handful of confetti.
Punisher Guard: A barrier that parries traditional attacks, giving Gogeta the opportunity for a strong counter attack.
Plus Energy of Justice: Gogeta causes a burst of Ki that protects him from attacks. It also gives him a Dragon Ball in FighterZ when used, but that’ll be ignored for this match.
God Punisher: Gogeta charges twin blue spheres of Ki in his hands and flings them in rapid succession at his opponent. Afterward, he concentrates more energy in his hands before placing the bottom of his palms together in front of him to bombard his opponent with a barrage of blue Ki blasts.
Punisher Shield: Gogeta swipes his left arm out to slice the air with a blue barrier that deflects any energy blasts afar as a giant blue blast.
Stardust Breaker/Soul Punisher: Gogeta raises his hand in the air to generate a prismatic, rainbow energy sphere and uses it to deal massive damage to his opponent, either by throwing the attack or by crushing the sphere and then throwing the scattered energy into the opponent.
Stardust Fall: Gogeta charges a massive energy sphere in his hands and fires it downward in a hailstorm of energy bullets.
Meteor Explosion: Gogeta powers up first before charging towards his opponent, punching them a total of three times. At the final third punch, Gogeta floods his opponent with his own ki and proceeds to kick the opponent into the air. Gogeta then raises his arms, crosses them, then detonates the ki within the foe's body in a devastating thermonuclear-like explosion.
Atomic Kamehameha: Another variation of the classic Kamehameha, rather than deal prolonged damage in a wave, this one hits the opponent in a single, devastating blast that launches them away.
Big Bang Kamehameha: A combination of Goku’s kamehameha and Vegeta’s Big Bang Attack. Gogeta puts both of his hands in front of him, palms open and hands turned up at approximately a 90-degree angle. Next, he creates a massive Big Bang Attack in front of him, before charging the tremendous energy of a Super Kamehameha to power up the technique even more. Finally, he releases all of it into a gigantic ki blast or stream.
Ultra Big Bang Kamehameha: A stronger variant of the Big Bang Kamehameha.
X100 Big Bang Kamehameha: A Big Bang Kamehameha that is 100x stronger than a normal Big Bang Kamehameha, it’s Gogeta’s ultimate move.
Limit Ultra Kamehameha: Just another stronger Kamehameha, with enough power to kill Broly.
Vegito
Split Finger Shot: Vegito fires multiple miniature Ki blasts from his fingers at the same time.
Barrier: Vegito surrounds his body in a barrier of Ki that protects him from attacks, and can be used to set up a counter attack.
Spirit Cannon: Vegito extends his hand towards his opponent and becomes surrounded by yellow energy. Then, he releases a powerful sparkling golden energy blast.
Big Bang Flash: A version of the Big Bang Attack created by Vegito that sends out an energy wave rather than an energy ball.
Beam Sword Flash: Vegito can manipulate their ki into a blade to pierce and slash with.
Spirit Excalibur: Vegito creates a gigantic Ki blade that can be used to attack opponents.
Omega Finishing Blow: A follow up move to his other techniques where Vegito uses Instant Transmission to get in close to the opponent before dealing a devastating punch amped by blue Ki.
Final Kamehameha: Vegito’s strongest attack, a combination of Goku’s Kamehameha and Vegeta’s Final Flash that has absurd destructive power.
God Final Kamehameha: An even stronger version, combining God Final Flash and God Kamehameha.
God Ki
God Ki is the unique type of Ki only used by angels and Hakaishins. But throughout the course of the series, both Goku and Vegeta have learned how to access this Ki and use it in their transformations/techniques and for other actions.
Healing: God Ki users are capable of healing minor wounds.
Extrasensory Perception: God Ki users are capable of sensing other godly beings who cannot be sensed by normal people.
Pocket Dimensions: Those who utilize God Ki are able to create and then teleport themselves and others into their personal pocket dimension, allowing for a field advantage.
Space Time Portals: God Ki users are capable of tearing open holes in space-time.
Instant Transmission
Through the use of Ki Control, both Goku and Vegeta can perform Instant Transmission to instantaneously travel distances ranging from a few meters to light years away. They can even use it to travel to places like the Other World. They perform this by placing two fingers on their forehead and locking onto someone's Ki signature, allowing them to instantly teleport to that person's location.
Hakai
Both Goku and Vegeta are capable of using destruction energy and forming it into the technique known as Hakai. This attack can erase someone’s very soul from existence, and will destroy everything it touches.
Forced Spirit Fission
A technique utilized by Vegeta through Spirit Control. By inflicting damage to an opponent at either long or short range, Vegeta can separate energy from them and manipulate it. This technique can be used to return energy an opponent has absorbed, or to undo a Fusion. However this technique needs to actually hit the opponent for it to activate, limiting its usefulness if the enemy can avoid the user’s attacks.
Resistances
(The funny part is Candy Vegito does not even count as a resistance.)
Both Fusions should have the resistances of Goku and Vegeta, as well as any resistances that come with God Ki:
Extreme Temperatures: Goku can stay near stars and be in the vacuum of space without any difficulty. Vegeta had his hand frozen to the bone at absolute zero but was fine after turning Super Saiyan.
Mental Manipulation: Users of God Ki have complete immunity to mental attacks, and Vegeta has shown the will power to overpower Babadi’s magic
Time Stop: SFPS4 LB Gogeta was also able to bypass Fu’s time stop by tearing holes in time itself.
Existence Erasure: Vegeta was able to power through Toppo’s Hakai.
Extrasensory Perception: Both Fusions have God Ki, which makes them unable to be sensed by normal beings.
Battlefield Removal: Weaker Fusions like Gotenks are able to scream out of dimensions, and Vegeta was able to power out of the Hyperbolic Time Chamber.
Dark Ki / Dark Factor: Fu stated that he had no true way to get rid of Super Saiyan Blue Vegito, despite his mastery of both Dark Ki and Dark Factor. Fu also later had to resort to time rewinding to defeat SFPS4 LB Gogeta, and Gogeta also has God Ki like Vegito, so he should have the same resistance to all the different abilities Dark Ki and Dark Factor can use. So we will add the various notable Dark abilities that Gogeta and Vegito don’t already resist.
Illusion and Perception Manipulation: Dark Ki can create false illusions and mental worlds to trap a person in.
Poison Damage: Dark Ki users can use a move called Bloody Sauce which inflicts the enemy with progressive poison damage.
Physics and Law Manipulation: Dark Ki was used to create the Demon Realm, which in turn follows different laws of logic. Dark Ki has also been used to create a parallel universe that followed distorted laws of reality.
Reality and History Altering: Dark Shenron’s mere presence in the Dark Demon Realm caused distortions and openings in time space.
Transmutation: Dark Ki can be used to transmute beings, even working on super powerful ones that can control time on a whim like Tokitoki.
Absorption: The Dark Factor is capable of absorbing others in order to empower oneself.
Possession: Goku’s God Ki allowed him to gain control over and use the Dark Factor to empower himself. The Dark Factor is imbued with the essence of Mechikabura, and harnessing that Dark Ki makes him attempt to control someone.
Transformations
Super Saiyan
The iconic original Super Saiyan form, this form turns the user’s hair gold and offers a fifty times power increase to all stats. Though it can occasionally be a bit draining on stamina.
Super Saiyan Grade 2
An enhanced state of Super Saiyan that both fusions should be capable of achieving, the form offers even more of an increase than Super Saiyan does, though the stamina issue is also slightly worse.
Super Saiyan 2
The next stage in Super Saiyan evolution, Super Saiyan 2 offers a one hundred times increase to all stats (compared to base).
Super Saiyan 3
The final traditional Super Saiyan form, Super Saiyan 3 offers a four hundred times increase to all stats (compared to base) at the cost of a more significant stamina issue than previous forms.
Golden Great Ape
(You will never obtain high quality DB Heroes gameplay images, EVER)
By absorbing a sufficient amount of blutz waves, Gogeta/Vegito can ascend to the Golden Great Ape form. The form is very powerful, just as strong as Super Saiyan 4 in fact, but it comes at the cost of a huge exploitable size and lack of mental control.
Super Saiyan 4
By achieving complete mental control whilst in the Golden Great Ape state, one can achieve the form of a Super Saiyan 4. This state is just as strong as the Golden Great Ape form, but also has no mental drawbacks. Serving as a condensed version of the Great Ape’s power, the form awakens the dormant power of the Saiyan. It also somehow turned Goku into an adult when he was in his child form.
Super Saiyan 4 Kaioken
Thanks to Super Saiyan 4 requiring a good mastery of energy control, it can also be combined with the Kaioken technique. The Kaioken can increase the ordinary Super Saiyan 4’s power from anywhere from twice as much to a full twenty times increase. However, using the Kaioken alongside Super Saiyan 4 does result in a much greater stamina issue than normal.
Super Saiyan God
The first step in godhood for the Saiyans, Super Saiyan God is MASSIVELY stronger than the initial three golden forms. While it has no specified multiplier increase, it is clear that the gap is enormous compared to previous forms. With a shining red aura and godly ki, it lets Goku contend with the God of Destruction Beerus.
Super Saiyan Blue
The next step in the Super Saiyan evolution, by combining the God Ki of the Super Saiyan God form with the regular Super Saiyan form, one can achieve Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan… Which is a mouthful, so most people just call it Super Saiyan Blue.
Super Saiyan Blue Kaioken
By combining Super Saiyan Blue with the Kaioken technique, Gogeta/Vegito’s power can massively skyrocket depending on the Kaioken multiplier that is used, just like Super Saiyan 4 when paired with Kaioken. Just like that combination however, there can be big stamina issues.
Super Full Power Saiyan 4 Limit Breaker
Xeno Goku and Vegeta originally obtained this form by having Ki bestowed to them by Xeno Trunks, Pan, and CC Goku and Vegeta. Instead of the normal Super Full Power Saiyan 4 form however, the two Saiyans gained a pinkish tint and completely red hair. This form is tied for Gogeta and Vegito’s strongest form (more details in a bit), granting a massive increase in power that lets the Saiyans compete with foes such as Modified Janemba and SFPS4 LB Broly.
Super Saiyan Blue Evolution
By using Vegeta’s Super Saiyan Blue Evolution form, Gogeta/Vegito can achieve their strongest state next to SFPS4 LB. However the form does seem to be different visually compared to Vegeta’s normal evolved state. The form could theoretically be some sort of combination between Blue Evolved and Ultra Instinct, based on Gogeta saying the form was the result of Goku and Vegeta training in their Ultra Instinct and Blue Evolved forms in the DBS Heroes Manga, but there is no confirmation of this, nor is there confirmation about the form having any Ultra Instinct related properties.
Veku
(Hey look a Gogeta only form)
The Metamoran Fusion Dance needs to be performed perfectly in order to create a usable fusion. If something goes wrong, like say, someone's finger or posture being misaligned, the result will instead be a weakened failed Fusion. And in Gogeta's case, Vegeta's failures resulted in Veku. This state… isn't that impressive. If they're unlucky enough to end up as Veku, they need to just wait out the Fusion or power up to speed up the timer so they can try again to form Gogeta.
Feats

Vegeta no sold Nappa obliterating a city when he stood in the middle of the explosion.
Vegeta tanked Goku's Kamehameha, which countered his Galick Gun in the Saiyan Saga.
Goku and Vegeta survived getting bombarded with cubes of Katchin by God Zamasu.
Goku and Vegeta are superior to Yamcha, who died to a Saibaman exploding. (0.64 tons of TNT)
Gogeta
Took a punch to the face from Janemba and didn’t even flinch.
Endured blows from Legendary Super Saiyan Broly while only a Super Saiyan.
Survived a full power blast from Time Power Unleashed Fu.
This attack caused two Gogetas to defuse in the anime, though in the manga Fu had to resort to defusing SFPS4 LB Gogeta with his time powers. So logically Gogeta should scale to his full power.
Vegito
Able to block attacks from Buu with no damage whatsoever.
Was able to quickly recover from an immensely powerful gut punch from Fusion Zamasu.
Weaknesses
(Because Goku is afraid of needles and Vegeta is afraid of worms)
First off, no, they’re not actually cocky and overconfident in fights. At least, they aren’t nowadays. While they can have their aggressive banter, both Fusions are legitimately focused on getting the job done, as seen in recent battles with characters like Zamasu, Broly, Fu, etc.
However, while both Gogeta and Vegito are incredibly powerful, they are held back by one key flaw: their time limits. Both the Potara (lmao retcons am I right) and the Fusion Dance have time limits on the actual fusions, restricting their effectiveness in longer fights. This time limit can also be shortened through expending too much energy all at once.
For individual weaknesses, Gogeta does have a shorter time limit compared to his counterpart, and Vegito’s Potara being destroyed could maybe result in his fusion ending early, as seen with Kefla’s defeat against Goku.
Summary
Gogeta
Advantages:
Equal in the stat trinity
Knows every move Vegito could do, and could replicate all of them (STRANGE, ISN’T IT?)
Better in FighterZ (monke)
Has like, twice as large a collection of themes and they’re all better than Vegito’s
Disadvantages:
Worse time limit
Failure to perform the Fusion Dance properly results in a worse Fusion
Worse in FighterZ (blue man)
Vegeta has to bust a move for Gogeta to appear
Vegito
“We’re a merged fighter, the combination of Vegeta and Kakarot: Vegito!”
Advantages:
Equal in the stat trinity
Knows every move Gogeta could do, and could replicate all of them (Not doing the joke again)
Better time limit
“YOSHA!” is a really simple but somehow immensely badass catchphrase
Was canon for over 20 years longer
Disadvantages:
Earrings might be a targetable weakness
never actually won a fight lmao
Goku and Vegeta have to touch dicks for Vegito to appear
Verdict
Stats
To get the obvious out of the way, both are equal in every stat. Power, speed, durability, Vegito and Gogeta match one another in every way.
Normally this conclusion would require more semantics. In the traditional canon, Potara is stated numerous times to be a superior increase in comparison to the Fusion Dance by multiple relevant sources, such as the Elder Kai, Vados, etc. So in a fight where it's a modern era Goku and Vegeta against a modern era Goku and Vegeta, Vegito would take the edge.
However there’s more than one way to look at things. If you base their stats on their most recent appearances, Gogeta has the edge. Vegito’s last canon appearance was in the Goku Black Arc in the battle against Fusion Zamasu. In comparison, Gogeta’s was in the battle against Broly in Dragon Ball Super: Broly. In the time span between fighting Zamasu and Broly, Goku and Vegeta had an entire arc filled to the brim with Zenkai boosts and non-stop training. Thus Gogeta in his respective movie was without a doubt stronger than Vegito in his respective arc.
But, due to the fact this debate is involving Dragon Ball Heroes and its lore and battles, everything that we just stated is completely irrelevant.
Putting aside the fact that Heroes just blatantly makes the two have a direct fight on equal footing (as shown in the gif used for the martial arts section), SFPS4 LB Vegito and Gogeta have fights that go just as well as the other against Dark King Fu and Fu’s Time Power Unleashed form. This arguably makes Gogeta more impressive as the form he fought, being the Time Power one, is Fu’s strongest form. He was even stated by Fu to be above anyone he had ever faced before, which would include SFPS4 LB Vegito. Though this can just be chalked up to Goku and Vegeta getting a tiny bit stronger before fighting this variant of Fu.
In conclusion, both Fusions scale to the exact same feats, both getting Multiversal+ AP and Immeasurable speed. So, the stats for this fight are completely equal. Thus neither Vegito or Gogeta can gain an upper hand over the other through stats alone.
Abilities and Equipment
Both Vegito and Gogeta have a wide array of powers and abilities: they can erase souls, seal others, have over a hundred physical and ki techniques they can pull off, instantly teleport, etc. But that’s exactly the issue here, for both of them: Both Vegito and Gogeta. As in, the two have every ability, technique, hax, and so on the other has. This is due to not only them both being Fusions of the exact same people, but also since fusees keep their memory of their time fused, Gogeta and Vegito would remember their experiences as Vegito and Gogeta. Because of this, their entire arsenals cancel out with each other, if they did not already resist any hax the other had anyways.
However there is one ability that stands out here, being Vegeta’s Spirit Fission. This ability has been stated to even be capable of removing the Namekians Piccolo fused with, being Nail and Kami. Spirit Fission would logically be capable of instantly defusing Vegito, giving Gogeta an edge. But also instantly capable of defusing Gogeta, giving Vegito the edge. And it is not like you can argue one would use it before the other does. Both Fusions know everything the other Fusion can do, and would know about the other Fusion wanting to use this ability. Either both Fusions start the fight with it and instantly defuse, or both decide not to use it at all for the sake of getting a good fight.
Thus while Spirit Fission would seem like a powerful instant win condition, due to the fact both Fusions know the technique, it’s yet another factor that simply cancels out and is made irrelevant. Similarly to the other abilities Gogeta and Vegito have.
Tertiary Factors
Both Fusions have equal skill and range in terms of their techniques, due to the fact they know every technique the other can use. So that aspect is not going to be relevant here.
What is going to be relevant however, are both Fusions’ time limits. Vegito’s hour long limit is twice as long as Gogeta’s thirty minutes, meaning that he is going to last longer in a drawn out fight. This also means that he can more safely release his power than Gogeta, since he has more time he can burn in comparison. Taking this into account, Vegito has the minor edge needed to win.
There is one problem however, and that is if Gogeta attempted to destroy Vegito’s earrings. Assuming that the destruction of the Potara earrings would undo a Fusion, Gogeta would target them as he would be aware of this. After all, didn’t Goku see Kefla’s Potara shatter? So shouldn’t Gogeta have an easy weakness to target that is more likely a win condition in comparison to Vegito’s better time limit allowing for the release of more energy?
No. Here is why.
Apart from the instance with Kefla defusing in the Tournament of Power, all other instances of Potara Fusions having their earrings endangered have had different results. When Kefla was defeated in the DBS manga, Kale and Caulifla returned to the stands fully healed without their Potara Earrings. And the Earrings were still intact when Kefla was rung out by Gohan. The Manga Tournament of Power also had fighters fully healed before they were moved to the stands as well.
What we’re trying to say here is that the anime version of the instance is weird in its portrayal. This scene could be seen as consistent with other Fusions like Gotenks being defused by Hirudegarn knocking him out as well, though that is a Metamoran Fusion and not a Potara one.
Also in the DBS manga, Fusion Zamasu had one of his earrings erased by Goku’s Hakai. He later regenerated his earring along with the part of his body the Hakai had erased. This could suggest either that only one earring is needed to maintain the Fusion, or that they aren’t needed at all. However Fusion Zamasu could also be seen as a weird case, considering that Black and Zamasu were unable to properly defuse after their hour time limit expired, and Fusion Zamasu regenerated the Potara Earring before he regenerated his other clothing.
The point we’re trying to establish here is that the Potaras being destroyed causing premature defusing is not a completely consistent thing within Dragon Ball’s lore. And in addition to these other examples, Kefla’s Potara being destroyed could have just been a symbolic thing representing her defeat. And there is also no direct canon confirmation that destroying the Potara results in the Fusion being defused.
And in further addition to all of this, it’s likely that the Potara scale in durability to their current wearer anyways. Characters like Zamasu and Vegito have taken large beam attacks that would have come in contact with their Potara plenty of times, and the earrings were not broken. For the case with Kefla’s breaking, she had just spent all of her energy trying to hit Goku, and was being hit by a massively charged up Kamehameha.
Simply put, you have to hop through too many hoops to argue the earrings are an exploitable weakness Gogeta can target, and even more to say they’re a weakness at all.
Conclusion
This will by no metric be an easy fight for Vegito. His only advantage is, while significant, his only singular advantage. He is still fighting someone who can match him in every other aspect.
However, in comparison, Gogeta does not have a specific distinct advantage like Vegito. The idea that the earrings would be a targetable weakness is a very complicated and lackluster argument with little consistency.
Simply put, Vegito’s singular advantage in being able to abuse more of his power thanks to his longer time limit is also the only advantage either Fusion truly has in this fight. And thus, it is what gives him the needed edge to win.
While Gogeta obviously will not go down without a fight, Vegito’s one advantage makes him the winner here. There are no good puns you can do with the word “Fusion”. The winner is Vegito.

Before We Go…
We are also currently working on a Gogeta/Vegito VS Omnimon Bonus Blog, which will be released at some point prior to Gogeta VS Vegito. Look out for that!
Lastly…
#ColexSweep
Can't wait for Omnimon to eviscerate Gogeta/Vegito in two weeks. Other than that, I respect the hell out of GumballViking for not falling for peer pressure and picking the winner based on his opinion and nothing else.
ReplyDeleteBased on what
DeleteCan't exactly say I agree with the majority here: targetting the Potaras seems like a perfectly viable solution to me. Even if they can't be physically destroyed, they still can be forcefully taken off, and Gogeta has the techniques required to close the gap. Nevertheless, great work on this one as usual; can't wait to see the Omnimon blog!
ReplyDeleteGogeta doesn't really have any techniques that could actually close the gap since they can both do the same thing as stated by everyone else even if targeting the Potara earrings is valid
DeleteI noticed Vegito had some exclusive techniques that would be tricky for Gogeta to counter in comparison.
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteAccidentally made a typo on the previous comment, The problem is that they can both perform the same exact techniques, they're only listed as separate because they prefer those over the over but they can still very well perform them
DeleteLike how Goku can use the Kienzan but prefers the Kamehameha overall
Not much to say about this matchup; didn't like it earlier, don't like it now, but nothing against the blog.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to the Omnimon matchup!
I still massively disagree with the whole "they are the same character" point
ReplyDeleteThey are explicitly shown to fight/act differently in combat
>Even in his fight with Fused Zamasu, Vegito was incredibly arrogant and cocky, he faked out Zamasu just to land the Spirit Sword
>But Gogeta acts far more seriously, this is obvious in his fight with Broly, as Gogeta relentlessly beats down Big and Green with endless ki blasts and precise strikes
I actually think this difference in mentality when it comes to fighting would lead to Gogeta winning
That could play a factor but unlike the Canon version of Goku, Xenoverse and Heroes versions of Goku will actually try ending the fight immediately rather than let their opponents warm up and so this also applies to the fusions
DeleteI have to agree. It's pretty clear that both Gogeta and Vegito are not the same character whatsoever, considering both of their mentalities and how they fight in a fight are very different from each other, such as Gogeta being very serious while Vegito tends to be a lot more cocky and arrogant. Otherwise, there should only be one form/transformation for Goku and Vegeta if they were to fuse together to begin with, regardless of if it's through the Fussion Dance or Potarra Earrings.
DeleteOne Name to Describe this Fight.
ReplyDeleteGeorge Hancock
Honestly I do agree Vegito wins but as a season finale fight you want something else. End of the day, they're so close in stats. We have to directly focus on their fusion methods to determine a winner. As for your bonus one go for it.
ReplyDeleteA time limit as the win condition!? What a rip off. I'm backing Gogeta til the day I day. Otherwise, great job as always on the blog guys.
ReplyDeleteSadly it is a huge issue for Gogeta.
DeleteHow? He lasted way longer against Broly in Blue than Vegito did against Fused Zamasu in the same form. Vegito was literally only on screen for like 7 minutes. Gogeta lasted WAYYY longer.
DeleteAnd Vegito defused almost immediately after using his ultimate attack, the final kamehameha. Gogeta was still around for quite a bit after he used his kamehameha. He had enough time to watch Broly be teleported away, smile, and stop Frieza from killing Cheelai and Lemo. I don't understand how Vegito has the time limit advantage when it was made very clear he did not last the whole hour he should have.
DeleteVegito was too powerful, the energy within the Potara Earrings started to use up faster. Also you got to realize these characters moves incredibly fast. Sadly Vegito couldn't beat Zamasu because he was immortal. Vegito can use more of his energy in comparison. Gogeta's fusion method is more energy based. So the more powerful the forms, the less time Gogeta has. GT did state SS4 Gogeta had much less time. Considering Super Dragon Ball Heroes is getting thrown in. Both of them also has SS3 and SS4 forms respectively.
DeleteHeroes really throws a wrench into things. I thought this was gonna be more straightforward, with Vegito winning with the Z timeline, and Gogeta winning with Super with their respective scaling. With them equalized, it's hard to come up with a definitive answer.
ReplyDeleteBtw, it's not relevant here, I meant to comment this in the previous blog, but can I tell you guys how much I love this new summary system implemented in Asta Vs Deku? It was so bothersome seeing "Pros: he could be stronger depending on what you buy for him. Cons: He could be weaker too tho." I feel like this is such a great way to compromise when the two parties aren't on the same page; give the two different stats depending on what each verdict team buys for the characters. I felt like that could've helped blogs like Megatron Vs Frieza and Akuma Vs Raoh a ton, since debates like those have some serious contentious debate in terms of stats.
Looking forward to Omni-Mon Vs Vegito. Haven't looked into the digimon stuff since I was a kid, and even then, I could barely catch it on tv, but apparently they made Omni-Mon universal/possibly multiversal in a later season. I remember one guy put Omni-Mon above Arceus.
