‎”I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times.”

Bruce Lee

In the world of anime, those who have chosen to follow the path of the martial artist are many and varied. From Super Saiyan gods to brutal Kengan Association fighters, it takes a lot to truly stand out amongst the crowd in the shonen genre. But these two footloose and fancy free fighters have been used to going up against the odds since their youth. Vinsmoke Sanji, the Straw Hat Pirates’ chef with his soul on fire, and Rock Lee, the Splendid Ninja who truly embodies the power of youth. After 10 years of Death Battle, One Piece and Naruto finally come to blows.

Looked down upon as children for their seeming disabilities compared to their peers, they managed to rise above the scorn and derision of their childhoods to prove that it doesn’t take genetic alteration or ninja magic to make yourself one hell of a badass. Now, thanks to the tutelage of their now-weakened mentors, they’ve come to settle the question of who truly is the best martial artist of the Holy Shonen Trio. …well, besides Yoruichi, we all know she’s the best.

A Heads-Up From Ya Bois

For this blog, we’re going to be taking into account all the major appearances of both Sanji and Lee, from the manga, the anime, to the movies and video games, and yes, even the often-mocked filler arcs. No stone’s gonna be left unturned for this rivalry in the making, so let’s cut the chit-chat and hotfoot our way into the analysis!

Background

Sanji

“Messing with a cook of the sea is a good way to get yourself killed… remember that well.”

The Germa Kingdom was a rare seafaring kingdom, and was ruled by the Vinsmoke family. The patriarch, Vinsmoke Judge, wanted his wife to bear extraordinary children. He planned to make ruthless killing machines, and had his wife undergo experimental surgical operations to do so. In defiance, she took a special poison that would neutralise the superhuman experiments done to her. She ended up having five children, only one of them spared from her husband’s sick machinations. This was Vinsmoke Sanji.

Surrounded by bigger and stronger siblings, Sanji had a rough upbringing to say the least, having to suffer constant abuse from his brothers as well as his father, who became convinced that Sanji would never develop superhuman abilities and decided to erase the very fact this “disappointment” existed. He was placed in an iron mask and locked away in a Vinsmoke castle dungeon. It was here that he learned about the mythical sea of legend, the All-Blue, and decided that he wanted to become a chef and travel there.

His only sister, Vinsmoke Reiju, cared for her brother, and helped him run away from his former life, where he would denounce all ties to the Germa Kingdom and his father, Vinsmoke Judge. Two years after he left the Vinsmoke Family, a ten year-old Sanji was working as a ship's cook on the Orbit. One day, the pirate known as "Red-Leg Zeff” and his crew attacked the ship, but then both ships were destroyed by a storm. This caused Zeff to rescue Sanji and bring him to an island. On this island there was very little in the way of food for them. Splitting up what little rations remained, Zeff ordered Sanji to sit at the other end of the island to look for a ship, with Zeff taking the bigger bag of rations and Sanji taking the smaller one. Sanji, growing increasingly more desperate, tried to kill Zeff only to realize that he had no food and that Zeff had eaten his own leg in order to stave off hunger. Zeff was accepting that this would likely be his end until a ship came and rescued them. Zeff, after this experience, decided to open a restaurant on the sea called the Baratie, where Sanji worked as a sous-chef, learning all that he could about the art of cooking as well as Zeff’s signature style, the Black Leg style.

At the age of 19, his life would change yet again when he met a young pirate by the name of Monkey D. Luffy. The elastic Straw Hat was impressed by Sanji, both in his cooking skills and his kindness as shown when he decided to feed a starving pirate. Luffy asked Sanji to join his crew, but he declined, saying that he had a personal debt to Zeff and he would not break that debt. The Baratie would later come under attack by Don Krieg and Luffy, Nami, Usopp, and Zoro would fight them off, Luffy dealing with Don Krieg. Ultimately, it took quite a bit of convincing, but Sanji eventually decided to join Luffy on his pirate adventures in order to find the All-Blue, becoming the fifth member of the Straw Hat Pirates. Now ingrained into this life, Sanji had finally found himself surrounded by a true family, and home was always around.

Rock Lee

“I want to prove that you can become a great ninja even without being able to use Ninjutsu or Genjutsu! That is everything to me!”

Rock Lee was, well, a bit of a nobody. Born in Konoha, the Village Hidden in the Leaves, Lee had a rough time at the Ninja Academy. Young Lee wasn’t like the others, as he completely lacked the ability to employ ninjutsu and genjutsu. He was mocked for this lack of talent considering how commonplace such abilities were. Most people thought that Rock Lee had no chance of becoming a proper shinobi. He made it his mission to prove them wrong, and become his own “splendid ninja.”

After he managed to graduate from the Academy, he was placed into Team Guy along with Neji Hyūga and Tenten. Lee vowed to everyone that he would become a powerful ninja without using ninjutsu or genjutsu. Neji dismissed this, but their sensei, Might Guy, took an interest in him. He decided to train Lee, recommending that he put everything and more into his taijutsu skills. Lee would be taught powerful techniques of taijutsu including the Strong Fist fighting style. Eventually, Guy decided to train Lee in the use of a technique that most ninja were not able to use due to how dangerous it was: the Eight Gates. Lee managed to activate five of these gates by the age of 12, but kept it a secret from everyone besides Guy.

Lee would later participate in the Chunin Exams, where he showed off his truly impressive strength and speed to everyone, proving hard work can be a valid substitute for raw talent. He even managed to give the strongest genin in the exams, Gaara, a run for his money, nearly winning if it wasn’t for Gaara’s split decision thinking. However, tragedy would strike when Gaara used his sand to crush Lee’s left arm and leg. Though Gaara was prevented from killing him, Lee suffered heavy injuries from the fight, and it was recommended that he should retire from being a ninja. Lee didn’t give in and eventually Tsunade healed his injuries. This enabled a sort of rebirth for Lee, and he trained harder than ever to truly prove the naysayers wrong and become the ninja that his mentor Guy would always hope he would be. Through perseverance and just plain old stubbornness, Lee pushed on and proved to himself and the world that he was truly a great ninja.

Equipment

Sanji

Raid Suit

Initially hesitant to don the suit due to his loving relationship with his family, Sanji would eventually swallow his pride and begin using it to deal with the oncoming threats in the country of Wano. Developed by the Germa Kingdom’s legendary technology, the suit comes with many perks such as boots that allow him to hover in mid-air, a cape that can act as a forcefield, and enhanced strength and durability to the point where even King (the strongest member of Kaido’s crew minus the big man himself) has trouble killing him.

Most importantly Sanji’s suit grants him the ability to turn invisible like the legendary hero Stealth Black (Law’s a nerd), specifically by blending in with the environment around him. It also makes him a lethal weapon around women, thus finally allowing Sanji to fulfill his dreams to become the Invisible Man. Sanji himself has also picked up a decent proficiency at general stealth.

Wait…if Sanji can turn invisible…and according to Oda, he’s based off of Steve Buscemi…does that mean...?

Rock Lee

Weights

Rock Lee wears a pair of ankle weights that he uses for training. By removing his weights, Lee’s speed increases substantially, as shown in his fight with Gaara. These weights are heavy enough to leave a small crater on the floor when dropped from a large height, so they likely weigh at least several tons, somehow.

Nunchaku

Lee wields a pair of nunchaku that he keeps in his weights. For melee purposes, these weapons allow the development of quicker hand movements and posture improvement. Not only can these heavy bars operate as nunchaku, but they can also form together into a bo staff and a long chain.

Kunai

These daggers are used by most ninja throughout the series. While Lee tends to not rely on kunai, preferring to use his fists, he has shown quite a bit of skill in using them, like when he used one to deflect Gaara’s attacks.

Shuriken

Shuriken are also a commonly used weapon of the ninja, great for long-ranged peanut damage and distraction. Due to Lee being a mostly close-ranged fighter, shuriken are quite useful for closing the distance.

Explosive Tag

While Lee tends to not use these often, explosive tags can be useful for generating, well, large explosions. Explosive tags are most often used for trapping enemies or cutting off pathways. As such, they typically require time to prepare, which is not that useful in a fight, unless your name is Madara Uchiha.

Alcohol

To properly utilize the Drunken Fist style, it isn’t out of the ordinary for Lee to keep a bottle of alcohol on his person and get shitfaced.

Abilities

Sanji

Black Leg Style

As Sanji states himself, the hands of a chef should be used only for cooking and shouldn’t be soiled by such ugly means like combat. Basing it on Zeff’s own kick-based combat, Black Leg Style prioritizes the use of feet and legs in combat, taking cues from various martial arts such as Capoeira, Savate, and Taekwondo.

Black Leg Style Techniques

  • Collier: A powerful kick to the opponent’s neck that Sanji does whilst on the ground. Has a variant called Collier Shoot in which he kicks an opponent from the air instead.

  • Épaule: A downward kick to the opponent’s shoulder, meant to knock them off-balance or drive them into the ground. Also has a variant named Épaule Shoot in which he does the attack from the air.

  • Côtelette: Sanji does a handstand before kicking his opponent hard in the ribs. This attack is then followed up by Selle, a kick spinning in the opposite direction, landing in the opponent’s back or lumbar region.

  • Selle: Using the momentum from Côtelette, Sanji (whilst still in a handstand) spins around to serve a fast kick to the opponent’s lower back.

  • Poitrine: A stabbing kick to the opponent’s chest. The enhanced version named Poitrine Shoot involves aiming a little higher up.

  • Gigot: Dashing toward the opponent, Sanji delivers a sweeping kick to either send them flying or slam them to the ground.

  • Mouton Shot: One of Sanji’s strongest single kicks. He starts by jumping into the air, channels all of his might into one leg, and then strikes his opponent with a kick to the midsection.

  • Reception: Sanji lifts his leg up and hooks his opponent’s neck with it, before slamming them into the ground.

  • Anti-Manner Kick Course: Sanji delivers a powerful vertical kick by lifting his leg a full 180 degrees.

  • Basse Côte: A midair attack where Sanji kicks forward with one leg to attack, while kicking backward with the other leg to provide the necessary momentum. This attack is the beginning of the Basse Côte, Longe, Tendron, Flanchet, Quasi, Queue, Cuisseau, Jarret, and Veau Shot combo.

  • Longe: A sweeping kick to the opponent’s back.

  • Tendron: A kick to the opponent’s collar bone.

  • Flanchet: A kick to the opponent’s stomach. Has a variant called Flanchet Shoot that instead targets the head.

  • Quasi: Sanji flips into a double-handed handstand before spinning around and kicking the opponent.

  • Queue: Sanji continues spinning with the momentum from Quasi and swings his other leg around to kick the opponent's tailbone.

  • Cuisseau: Sanji delivers a hard kick to the opponent’s thigh. Has a variation called, you guessed it, Cuisseau Shoot, which sends the opponent flying if it connects.

  • Jarret: A strong kick to the opponent’s shin.

  • Veau Shot: The finishing blow to this combo, Sanji jumps in the air and repeatedly flips to gain speed before bringing his heel down on the opponent. He can also use this by doing a handstand and repeatedly spinning before kicking the opponent.

  • Concassé: Sanji jumps into the air and repeatedly flips to gain speed before bringing his heel down on the opponent. He can also use this technique by doing a handstand and spinning around rapidly before delivering a kick to his opponent.

  • Troisième Hachée: Sanji does a series of backflips before standing on his hands and pushing the ground to launch himself towards the opponent to deliver a flurry of kicks.

  • Bouquetière Shot: Sanji does a handstand underneath an opponent’s chin and pushes himself up to strike their chin.

  • Slice Shoot: Sanji runs up to his opponent and kicks their hands to disarm them of any weapon they have.

  • Party Table Kick Course: Sanji does a handstand and does a spinning kick to clear out any nearby foes.

  • Brochette: Sanji jumps into the air above his opponent, aims one of his legs downwards, and spins like a drill to spear his opponent with his leg.

  • Collier Frit: Sanji leans forward and launches a powerful kick to the opponent's throat.

  • Frit Assorti: Sanji leans forward and performs several upward kicks to take out multiple enemies.

  • Escalope: A jumping kick to the opponent’s forehead.

  • Santen Découpage: Sanji throws three powerful simultaneous roundhouse kicks to the opponent’s throat, chest, and stomach.

  • Shishinabe Shoot: A powerful side-kick strong enough to break down walls.

  • Deuxième Hachée: Sanji does a running jump and kicks the opponent’s stomach with both legs.

  • Extra Hachée: One of Sanji’s strongest attacks, Sanji serves up a barrage of hard kicks aimed in multiple directions at his opponent.

  • Jenga Ho: Sanji throws out multiple kicks strong enough to launch pieces of a building at an enemy.

  • Jabot: A quick kick to the opponent’s face.

Parage Shot

Certainly one of Sanji’s more…unique techniques. The Parage Shot is a barrage of kicks to every single section of the opponent's face that are so powerful they not only alter the bone structure of the unlucky foe but are also somehow capable of reconstructing the target’s facial features and hair structures. It’s like becoming Handsome Squidward, in its own anime way.

“H-how dare you do that to my beautiful eyes and nose?!”

  • Œil: Starts off with a kick to the opponent’s eyes.

  • Nez: A kick to the nose.

  • Joue: A kick to the cheek. Also has a variation called Joue Shoot where Sanji leans forward for a stronger kick.

  • Bouche: A kick to the opponent's upper jaw that can only be done with the opponent's mouth open.

  • Dents: A straight-on kick to the opponent’s teeth.

  • Menton: Finishes off with a strike to the opponent’s chin.

Sea Walk

A variation of his Sky Walk technique, Sanji utilizes this to boost his speed within the water. Ironically, this was shown off before Sky Walk, but that ain’t important.

Sky Walk

During his time in the Kamabakka Kingdom, Sanji developed a technique that would allow him to escape the Okamas. This would become Sky Walk, which allows him to push off the air via creating miniature sonic booms on his feet, similar to the Rokushiki technique Geppo. Sanji can use this to effectively walk on the air, allowing him to gain extra mobility on his foes and travel large distances.

Hell Memories

After closing his eyes and remembering his painful time in Kamabakka Kingdom, Sanji immediately becomes enraged, his whole body catching fire. He then leaps into the air and delivers a powerful kick to the opponent, setting their entire body on fire and causing great damage. This attack generates an enormous amount of fire encompassing even gigantic opponents like Wadatsumi, a giant tiger blowfish fishman.

Diable Jambe

During the raid at Enies Lobby, Sanji developed a new technique titled Diable Jambe. Initially requiring a rapid spin to ignite his leg, Sanji can now activate it without the need of such preparation (likely due to the Hell Memories) and even perform it underwater. Being fucking fire naturally makes the attacks Sanji delivers to be much more potent, leaving burn marks as a side effect. He also has several unique techniques accessible in this state.

  • Premier Hachis: A running jump into a dropkick, enhanced further by the flames of Diable Jambe.

  • Flambage Shot: In the air (sometimes several feet from the ground), Sanji kicks the opponent’s side, sending them smashing down into the ground like a rocket.

  • Extra Hachée: A barrage of flaming kicks so fast, they impact as one singular fireball.

  • Frites Assortes: Three simultaneous kicks (forward, left, and right) that shoot out corkscrew-shaped flames.

  • Bien Cuit: Grill Shot: Running at high speed towards his target, Sanji delivers a powerful donkey kick to the unfortunate victim, burning them so hard that grill marks appear over the affected area. Like Flex Tape, it works underwater!

  • Poêle à Frire: Spectre: A downwards kick that sends out multiple flaming fireballs to take out a large assortment of enemies.

  • Collier Strike: An improved variation of Collier Shoot, where Sanji leaps into the air and kicks the opponent in the neck, sending a stream of fire burning through the victim’s body.

  • Flanchet Strike: An improved variation of Flanchet Strike that smashes the opponent straight in the stomach.

  • Joue Shoot: A flaming kick straight to the enemy’s face. Zuko and Todoroki do not approve.

  • Concassé: An enhanced variation of the original Concassé attack, which was used to temporarily knock Luffy unconscious.

  • Crosse Strike: A literal ass-kicking enhanced by fire. Ouch.

  • Party Table Kick Course: An enhanced variation of the original, where Sanji heats up both legs, before spinning towards the enemy like a flaming tornado.

Haki

As described by Rayleigh, Haki is a force that exists within all creatures as a spiritual aura of some kind. Many people in the One Piece world are often unaware that they have Haki dwelling within themselves and often utilize it unknowingly. With proper training however, the user can fully realize these abilities and make use of them primarily in combat. During the two years he was trapped in the Kambakka Kingdom, Sanji would learn two out of the three Haki types.

The first and less important one in Sanji’s case is Armament Haki, which allows the user to coat their bodies in a spiritual armor that can enhance their attacks and gain extra durability. It can even be used to solidify the intangibility aspect of Logia type Devil Fruits. On a more advanced level, the user can even harden their bodies to further enhance their attacks and durability.

The more important type of Haki for Sanji, however, is Observation Haki. The primary usage of this type is to sense the presence of others, allowing the user to detect specific auras, as well as people who attempt to remain unseen or are far away. It can be used to detect the strength of another being, gain a feel for the emotions they have within, and even detect the intent of others to dodge and predict attacks. Sanji is noted to have Observation Haki as his speciality, and has performed many impressive feats with it, such as being able to detect a sniper, or understanding Viola’s true motives despite only just meeting her.

Rock Lee

Chakra

Chakra is the physical and spiritual energy located in every cell of the body and gained through exercise and experience. It's basically a cross between chi and stamina as the two are directly linked. Though other methods exist, Hand Seals are the main way to channel chakra through 361 different points over the body so it can be manipulated to perform a variety of acts like walking on water, ceilings or sheer cliffs, creating elemental attacks, creating illusions, etc.

While anything capable of using chakra can use non-elemental chakra, they also have an affinity to a certain element, allowing them to give elemental properties to their techniques, boosting power and efficiency. However, unlike many other shinobi, Lee doesn’t have any affinity for any chakra element. In fact, Lee has no talent with ninjutsu or genjutsu, to the point that he can’t perform either of them like most shinobi can.

Taijutsu

Due to not being able to use either ninjutsu or genjutsu, Lee decided to train purely in taijutsu to prove he can still be a great ninja despite these limitations. To help reach this goal, he received the support of his teacher, Might Guy, Konoha’s greatest taijutsu master. It’s thanks to Guy’s training that Lee was able to keep up with ninja prodigies such as Sasuke Uchiha and Gaara of the Sand. Under Guy’s tutelage, Lee learned various taijutsu techniques that he applied through his fighting style, The Strong Fist. The Strong Fist has been classified as being the exact opposite of the Gentle Fist, which is a fighting-style used by the Hyuga Clan. While the Gentle Fist relies on quick, precise strikes, the Strong Fist relies on physically overpowering your enemy through powerful strikes and kicks, focusing on strength rather than speed. After all, the purpose of this fighting style is to cause external damage and break bones, smashing one’s opponent.

Drunken Fist

This is a style of taijutsu that is only possible while the user is very drunk. Because they are intoxicated, users move irregularly and erratically; they attack with no warning and defend with unconventional motions. Users have no conscious awareness of what actions they'll take, which also means opponents can't predict what they'll do. Lee is a natural prodigy of the Drunken Fist. After drinking only a small amount of alcohol, his cheeks become red and he goes into a drunken rage, picking fights with friends and foes alike. Since he's already very gifted with taijutsu, Lee is extremely destructive in his drunken state. Because of how easily Lee becomes drunk, though, he also sobers just as easily. Lee also seems to have no memory of his actions while drunk, or at least he can't understand his hangover.

Leaf Techniques

These techniques are a specialty taught to Lee by Guy, emphasizing the use of the user’s feet rather than their fists. Some of the Leaf Techniques are strong enough to create entire whirlwinds. In terms of the techniques that fall under this subsection of Strong Fist:

  • Leaf Coil Whirlwind: Performs a powerful roundhouse kick to a single opponent.

  • Leaf Drop: Delivers a falling kick to the opponent, strong enough to crumble the surrounding environment.

  • Leaf Gale: Lee does a rear spinning kick that makes the target spin away, causing them to lose balance.

  • Leaf Great Whirlwind: Lee performs this attack with a low kick, followed up with a middle kick and a high kick, and ends with a heel drop to the opponent.

  • Leaf Rising Wind: Lee kicks just above the opponent’s head. Because the power of the kick from the ground is instantly converted into a blow, the opponent hit with this attack will be launched high into the sky. Can also be initiated while mid-air.

  • Leaf Whirlwind: Lee can use a high kick as a feint before following up with a low kick, finishing off the opponent with a powerful spinning roundhouse kick in the air.

Dynamic Techniques

These techniques are usually used to open a fight.

  • Dynamic Entry: Usually the move Lee first uses when fighting a target, he will perform a kick into the target’s face.

  • Double Dynamic Entry: This is an attack that Lee does together with his sensei Might Guy, and they kick the enemy at the same time.

Lotus Techniques

The lotus techniques are various taijutsu techniques Lee performs after unlocking certain Gates and implements the use of his bandages:

  • Front Lotus: Using the First Gate, Lee delivers an upward kick to his opponent and sends them high into the air. He follows the opponent along their upward trajectory, using his bandages to take tight hold of them so that they can't move or escape. Once he reaches the peak of the initial kick's arc, Lee begins a spinning motion and propels him and his opponent headfirst towards the ground. He releases the opponent right before impact and retreats to safety, leaving the opponent to collide with the ground alone.

    • One-Man Front Lotus: A version of the Front Lotus, Lee instead starts spinning by himself creating strong winds around him and dives down on the opponent rather than with them.

  • Reverse Lotus: Using the Third Gate, Lee removes his body's limitations on his maximum speed. Once this is done, he continually strikes his target from multiple directions, pummelling them into the air. Afterward, Lee gradually wraps his opponent with the bandages he wears, allowing him to better manoeuvre them to deliver a finishing blow that sends them crashing back to the ground.

  • Shadow of the Dancing Leaf: Used as a setup for the Front Lotus, Lee moves close to behind an opponent and carefully matches their movements, following them in the same way that a leaf is followed by its shadow.

Eight Gates

Lee’s ace in the hole is a dangerous technique that he learned from Guy. By opening up each of the chakra gates in his body, not only does his chakra begin to flow through him a lot better, he gains new abilities, and can increase his power and speed further and further. Each of the Eight Gates has its own name and technique, but opening each one puts more and more of a strain on his body. This is because, while chakra is a useful energy, using too much of it strains the body. And while some ninja who use the Eight Gates technique are able to open up to the 7th Gate and still be relatively fine (Might Guy being an example), opening up the 8th and final Gate will eventually kill the user, no matter how powerful they are

  • Gate of Opening: The First Gate, which is located in the brain, removes any mental inhibitions a user has, and allows the user to use the Front Lotus technique we mentioned earlier, though using this technique also tires the user out.

  • Gate of Healing: The Second Gate, which is located next to the first gate in the brain, increases the user’s physical strength. It also helps the user to recover from exhaustion quickly, such as when using the Front Lotus, as well as re-energizes the body.

  • Gate of Life: The Third Gate, which is located down the spinal cord, allows the user to perform the Reverse Lotus technique we once again mentioned earlier. Side effects of opening the third gate may include reddening of the skin, disappearance of the pupils, hair standing on end, and bulging veins on the body

  • Gate of Pain: The Fourth Gate, which is located lower down the spinal cord, results in the tearing of the user’s muscles and, in some cases, nose bleeding. But, as an added benefit,  the user’s physical speed is further increased

  • Gate of Limit: The Fifth Gate, located in the abdomen above the stomach, increases the user’s physical strength, though at the cost of causing compound fractures on the user’s limbs afterwards

  • Gate of View: The Sixth Gate, which is located in the stomach, allows the user to perform the Morning Peacock technique, where the user will kick the enemy in the air and then jump after them before unleashing a rapid fire flurry of punches that are so fast and powerful that they light the air around them on fire and spread out in a peacock formation. It’s a move so powerful, it was able to stun Saiken, the Six-Tailed Slug. Other benefits of this technique include an increase to all of the user’s abilities and being able to punch so hard that the user displaces water around them. A good sign that someone has opened this gate is seeing a green aura around their body

  • Gate of Wonder: The Seventh Gate, which is located below the stomach, causes the user to start secreting a weird blue sweat that evaporates so quickly, it can be mistaken for an aura of chakra, as well as rupturing the muscle fibres of the user, which will cause extreme pain if they are touched by anyone anywhere on their body. But, to make up for this, the user can use the Daytime Tiger technique. This technique allows the user to create a pocket of air pressure that they can then launch at their target in the shape of a tiger. This technique also explodes on impact with the poor victim

  • Gate of Death: The Eighth and final Gate, which is located in the heart, is the ultimate last resort of the user. This gate can only be opened by puncturing the heart with the user’s thumb, directing their chakra to it. Opening this gate actually gives the user a hundred-fold power increase, allowing their body to go past its normal limits. Using this technique allows the user to use two techniques. The first is the Evening Elephant, where the user rushes past the victim and unleashes five punches, each getting relatively stronger, that are in the shape of an elephant’s leg. This technique, when performed by Guy, was able to end on a punch so powerful, it actually broke through Madara Uchiha’s chakra shell, as well as multiples of these techniques immobilizing Madara when he became the Jinchuuriki of the Ten-Tailed beast. The second technique is called Night Guy, named after...well, Might Guy. By unleashing this technique, the user’s chakra takes on the form of a red dragon before dashing forward so fast, space around the attack is distorted and it becomes nigh impossible for the target to defend against this technique. They then unleash a kick so powerful that it can obliterate an opponent’s body and creates a shock wave linear to the kick. This technique was actually powerful enough for the Ten-Tailed Madara to actually fear for his life. So what’s the downsides? Well, upon using this technique, the heart pumps at the fastest speed it possibly can, and the user’s body becomes so hot, it evaporates their blood, which is emitted from the user’s pores and hair in a way that resembles a flaming aura. Over time, the user’s body will be cooked from the inside-out, reducing them to a dead pile of ash, and the kick from Night Guy becomes so powerful, it actually shatters every bone in the user’s striking leg.

It should be noted that we’ve never seen Rock Lee use the attacks from Gates Six through Eight, but it is still likely possible for him to use them, as Might Guy was able to perform them as well. We’ve also only ever seen up to 6th Gate Lee in general.

sheer heartbreak

If his primary fighting style wasn’t any indicator, Sanji is a close-ranged fighter. Ergo, he doesn’t have a lot of projectiles or ranged attacks, meaning he has to rely on getting close to an opponent. His biggest weakness, however, is his own moral code. He will not use his hands in a fight even if his very life is at stake, which can lead to enemies exploiting his limited fighting style and getting the upper hand on him. He also refuses to fight any sort of female opponent, being the chivalrous gentleman he is. Lucky for him, Lee isn't a female sooo…

Rock Lee

Man did Shippuden do Lee dirty

Lee’s win/loss record is quite frankly abysmal for such a cool character, with the only opponent that he looked to beat being Part 1 Sasuke (this was before his powers got crazy). Part of the reason why Lee’s win/loss record is so poor is the burden that the Eight Gates puts on the user. It is a glass cannon technique, in that it does a lot of damage but ultimately leads to the user feeling exhausted. While Lee has managed to mitigate this somewhat in Part 2, the Eighth Gate in particular would still kill him if used.

Rock Lee

"A genius, huh? What does that mean? ‘Genius’? So I was not born with a whole lot of natural talent, not gifted like Neji… but I work hard and I never give up! That is my gift; that is my ninja way!"

Advantages:

  • Hypothetically much stronger when using the 8th Gate

  • More experienced

  • Likely even with Sanji in skill

  • Guys like actually fr when Rock Lee removed his training weights omg holy fuck best anime moment of all time deadass bro

  • Fucked and now has a kid

Disadvantages:

  • Slower

  • Weaker than Sanji in all forms besides the 8th Gate

  • Using the 8th Gate will kill him

  • Has no answer to invisibility

  • Man got absolutely shafted in Shippuden

ATTA BOY, FALCON, GET HYPED!

Seriously, though, you’re valid. This is one of those Death Battles-- where you really wish the show had just been named something else, because you don’t wanna see either character die. But hey, at least Sanji winning means somebody gets to walk out alive (as opposed to what’d probably be another mutual kill).

And I’m still excited! Really excited! Though it died down in recent times, this match-up used to be one of my top requests, and the pre-release hype train has reignited my flames of passion! Besides, One Piece is a series more important and influential to me than almost any other. The characters, the world they live in, the raw emotions and magic Oda puts into his work… insane. Absolutely insane. I’ve been asking for more OP representation in DB, so now I’m hoping this is the start!

So, yeah, Sanji’s got this. Plenty of more-well-put-together people’ll dive into the nitty gritties below. But to summarize: Lee’s 99% not getting the 8th Gate he’d need to even pull off a debatable win (because it’d be silly to include a form that doesn’t as-of-yet exist). So he’ll probably be forced to contend with Sanji’s precognition, flight, invisibility and INCREDIBLE HIHG SPEED using only 6.

The odds of Lee succeeding in that are about as high as us ever finding out who he married.

And now… VS Battles Wiki being right, for once.

"There's this weird ironic bitterness to the themes of the Sanji-Lee match as well. Rock Lee was supposed to be representation of the idea that inborn talent could be overcome with hard work, and that with sufficient training someone with no talent could overcome a prodigy. Then the Naruto series became all about inborn prodigal talent with Lee just completely falling out of focus and amounting to nothing in the end. Sanji was supposed to have genetic augmentation to become a supersoldier from birth, but was the one reduced to a normal human because of his mother's desire to have a normal kid. In the end, Sanji still becomes the most badass of all his siblings despite being the only one that wasn't a born supersoldier, working his way up to overcome their natural talents with not just hard work but a love for life beyond fighting. Lee is going to get killed by a man who succeeded where he failed as a character."

You hate to see it.

Get hyped.

Shulk

I wonder if Kishimoto forgot Lee existed

Alright so Bat-Man vs Spider-Man but girls happened and it was whatever. More importantly

IT’S ONE PIECE TIME BAYBEE

Granted I do wish they waited some time to do this match but it’ll be at the very least a sick animation so I can’t be too mad about that.

That being said damn I gotta be real with y’all Lee has the cards stacked against him like a mother fucker. Being shafted as hard as he did really made him suffer long-term when all of the crazy shit happened and he wasn’t doing anything to get involved in that shit. Meanwhile Sanji has a consistent presence, is rivals with Zoro who gets some decent scaling, and has a whole ass arc dedicated to himself.

On top of that just to pour more salt into the wound

-Composite is happening with Sanji getting Stampede as well as every meteor feat ever

-Swan talking about the OP planet size beforehand and he’s handling Sanji which possibly gives us an idea of what big stuff will be focused on

-WallyVSonic brought up outlasting as a method of winning as well as MightvGuy last year establishing as long as Guy killed All Might before he died he’d win which sorta reinforces this idea

-Lightspeed stuff already being brought up in the preview for Sanji

Like I will bite my tongue if Lee wins this but as it stands there just isn’t much going for him long term. 8th Gate is pretty much the only reason why it’s not a clear cut verdict cause otherwise Sanji has him folded in all ways than none. He’s got the better stats, more useful abilities and is arguably just as skilled.

8th Gate is the big saving grace for Lee here but honestly it’s not gonna factor all that much. It’s dependent on Guy scaling which given Lee’s lack of doing anything in Boruto right now is hard to apply for sure. Even if we gave it to him, Sanji is just too fast for Lee to get a proper hit in, and has several methods of avoiding him, notably Haki and Sky Walk in this regard.

Lee is about to get Vinsmoked cause all I see right now is Sanji taking this W.

Hyperstarman

One Piece has so many great openings, but this one is top 3 for me and also relevant to Sanji.

So Bat Girl vs Spider-Gwen is an episode that exists. Gonna keep it short here but it played out the exact same way as Batman vs Spider-Man in terms of verdict and as an episode, an obvious stomp for Gwen that left no real impact and it didn’t do anything to stand out to me personally, which does kinda bum me out a bit but eh, it is what is.

Anyways next time is.........

YES YES YES YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS I AM SO HAPPY THIS MATCHUP IS HAPPENING, I AM THE HYPEDSTARMAN RIGHT NOW LETSSSSSS GOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

I am a huge One Piece fan, I grew up on that show for a while and have kept up with it to this day. I love the world building and characters in it and just how well everything is fleshed out, sometimes too fleshed out, it's almost 1000 chapters good god. But regardless, I still thoroughly enjoy it and happy to see One Piece repped in a modern light of Death Battle and it’s none other than my boy Sanji, one of my personal favorites from the series. While I’m not as big on Naruto as I am with One Piece, I do still enjoy a lot of the characters and I still like the series overall. Rock Lee in particular is a treat and one of the better Naruto characters for me personally and I’m so happy that I get to see these two chadly gentlemen duke it out in battle. Sucks one of em has to die, but I’m still really looking forward to it.

So let's break this down because this is a very very close fight as it comes down to one major factor. There are other variables to this as well so let's look over those real quick. Firstly it’s pretty obvious that Lee has superior training given his history as a trained ninja ever since he was kid, and that isn’t to say Sanji isn’t skilled as he was taught by Zeff for a while and underwent serious training during the time skip given them an even amount of experience, but Lee’s was more formal under highly skilled warriors so that gives him the slight edge on that front. Now let's get into the meat of this, the stats and while Lee does have some range game and a few more tools up his sleeves than Sanji, it ultimately really doesn’t matter as Sanji is much stronger than Lee and almost all of his gates and with his very high speed advantage, Lee won’t be able to land any fatal blow or be able to catch Sanji at all. Now it doesn’t end there though as Lee does have one gate that can surpass Sanji with the 8th gate and while it does kill him, he can still net a win if he lands a few blows in this state before he dies. So is it possible for Sanji to outlast the 8th gate? The answer is yes as Sanji is still much faster even when Lee is in the 8th gates and with the help of his Raid Suit, his invisibility and pregog gives him the tools needed to outlast Lee’s 8th Gate and score the winning blow and come out on top. This is still very close though and I can legitimately see Lee taking this with the 8th gate and training. Though more times than not, I believe Sanji has the better wincons overall to take the win in the long run.

Looks like Sanji’s serving broccoli tonight! (Credit to Js250476 for that pun and pic above, he is a very epic person (: )

Anywho, can’t wait for the finale though. It’s crazy to think the season is coming to end and the anniversary season will soon be upon us. I have a good idea for what the finale might be, and if it’s what I think it is then my boy Asura will finally be in de----

……

Oh.
Well, that’s going to be interesting to talk about.

Wolf

Well...this is a thing. Truth be told, I’ve never cared for either anime, though Sanji was one of the few things I liked about One Piece when I watched it (even though Chopper’s my favorite One Piece character). So...I’m kind of in unfamiliar territory here.

Right at the start, just from seeing these abilities that these two have, Rock Lee has an advantage. He not only has trained longer with these abilities than anyone else, but he has various different techniques he can unleash, especially with the different abilities the Eight Gates give him. Sanji does have the ability to fly, so to speak, so that might help him a little in that category, but I’d say Rock Lee started with the bigger advantage

Then...we look at stats...and honestly, that’s where Sanji not only matches up with Rock, but also blows him out of the water. Rock Lee’s stats are good, but they pale in comparison to Sanji, who is much faster, far more durable, and far stronger...well, maybe not that last one at their best, as Rock Lee could theoretically beat Sanji if he unleashed the 8th Gate, even if that alone causes an obvious issue of putting Rock Lee on a time limit

Speaking of the Eight Gates, that brings me to training and experience. While Rock was actually trained by Might Guy, Sanji was mostly self taught. Sanji also has far less experience, both in terms of his love life, and in terms of combat. However, I would argue that Sanji’s experience has been where it matters. The abilities he has, while less compared to Rock Lee’s, are also ones he’s trained with more, especially the most dangerous techniques he has. Rock Lee, however, has very little experience in using the Eight Gates, especially most of the gates past the third. Unlike Might Guy, who had plenty of experience with each of them save for the last two. To quote the man that was Rock Lee was based on, Bruce Lee: “I fear not the man who has practiced one-thousand kicks once, but one kick ten thousand times”

It’s a matter of quality over quantity with these two, really. Sanji may not have as many abilities, but the ones he does have are what makes him such a secret threat when it comes to the Straw Hat crew. He may not be as flashy as Luffy, Ace, or Robin, and the idea that he never uses his hands might seem stupid, but it only means he knows what to practice with, and he knows how to use it. Both Sanji and Rock Lee are impressive characters in their worlds for people who don’t have as many crazy superpowers, but at the end of the day, it looks like Sanji’s going to cook up a dish too painful for Rock Lee to take. Point goes to Sanji

Joshski

Lee gets fucked harder than he got fucked in Shippuden

UnknownUser55

I’m a huge fan of One Piece and I really enjoy Sanji as a character. Time to get swiftly into this;

Both fighters should have about equal levels of skill I’d say - both having unique fighting styles at their disposal. However, Sanji should hold the advantage in versatility despite not having less equipment than Lee does; The Black Leg style gives Sanji many techniques that gives him an advantage in this battle, such as flight via the Sky Walk. Sanji’s advanced knowledge on the body and the ability to reshape the bone structure also gives him an advantage here.

On the topic of equipment though, the Raid Suit should surpass all of Lee’s arsenal. Not only is Sanji’s physique upgraded, but the ability to completely fly around, go invisible and create shields can definitely overwhelm what Lee has.

Now going onto stats, Sanji also has the edge; Whether it’d be from scaling to the likes of Pica, Zoro, Katakuri and Marco, Sanji holds a comfortable edge in speed and power, as through Katakuri, Sanji should have FTL speed and his long time rival, Zoro, was able to slice a meteor in half, which should top all of Lee’s AP feats.

The Gates could help Lee in this fight, but Sanji is generally just too quick and agile on his feet to really land any hits in. Overall, while Lee is an impressive fighter in his own right, the Straw Hat chef is strong, versatile and fast enough to win this fight.

MomoUra

(The best Naruto openings tbh)

Wanna start off by thanking the G1 Blog for having me on here, I enjoyed contributing to this match up these past few weeks and am looking forward to working on future blogs.

Spider Gwen vs Bat Girl was just a repeat of Spider Man vs Batman as expected, same results and reasoning, mediocre animation, and for the most part it did feel unnecessary. It did give us a decent score though. Regardless, Sanji vs Lee is definitely a match up I am excited for. Naruto is easily one of my favorite franchises of all time. The OST is great, the fights are truly an experience, and the characters are fun and really well written. Lee is a character that I think can definitely work well in a death battle. I’ve grown fond of One Piece as well recently, Sanji is a great character and has really good potential for interactions with Lee. Overall can’t wait for this episode.

Now debate wise this is actually fairly interesting. I’ll go into each character and discuss their general feats, scaling, skill etc, (one more so than the other though, since I know a lot more about Naruto than I do One Piece).

                                 Rock Lee

              Part 1 Feats/Scaling:

Lee is an interesting case of having more relevance in Part 1, rather than Part 2. In Part 1, he’s an absolute beast, capable of breaking Gaara’s sand armour and just blitzing him repeatedly with the man not even able to move or do anything. Gaara was one of the stronger characters in Part 1, recognized as a very powerful Genin. While this doesn’t give Lee any noteworthy feats besides city block or hypersonic stuff, it’s still interesting to note. He should also somewhat scale to Kimimaro, given that he was able to fight on par with him.

              How the Eight Gates work:

Once we get into Part 2, we get into some much better scaling, despite Lee getting totally shafted.

First of all it’s important to note that the Gates do increase someone’s physical attributes, and they’re heavily implied to be multiplier based. When Lee opened a few of the gates, he gained a massive speed buff that allowed him to completely turn the tides of the Gaara fight. Plus, the gates are mentioned to increase one's power by 10x right here. Further supported by these scans as well. The gates are also consistently recognized as power that surpasses even the 5 Kage. This description is accurate given that opening the 8th Gate allowed Guy to rival Juubidara, and completely destroy his left side. Edo Madara, even while holding back was able to keep up with the 5 Kage in battle. This shows that the multipliers are indeed consistent and should be considered when looking at Lee’s stats. Second of all, the Gates are actually implied to give the same benefits, regardless of who uses them. The idea is that the Gates are simply limiters for one’s flow of chakra, and removing them increases the amount of chakra you can use and therefore increases your strength exponentially. It also allows for the same techniques presumably, as Kakashi is able to perform the Front Lotus with it, and it does the exact same buff as the 1st Gate is said to do, which is to remove the restraints that the brain places on the muscles, as seen

here when Kakashi uses it. What does this prove? Well for one it should very clearly show that the Gates provide the same buff, no matter who uses it. It’s meant to give a specific boost to a specific point, and remove restraints on a specific part of the body. Because of how these boosts work it is very reasonable to say that the 8th Gate should give Lee the same amount of power that Guy had to fight Madara, which as we all know is pretty fucking massive. Now, this is heading more into hypotheticals, but Lee should maybe be capable of performing Asakujaku and Hirudora. Both of which would increase Lee’s range by quite a lot, especially Hirudora. Essentially making the outlasting argument more difficult as a win con. Even ignoring these though, it’s definitely likely that the 8th Gate would make Lee as strong, if not stronger than 8th Gate Guy.

                  Part 2 Feats/Scaling:

So, where does Lee scale exactly? Well for starters we have a pretty good direct feat to go off of, and thats the meteor that Lee destroys in The Last, which can get Island. However he gets much more powerful with scaling, specifically with the 6th Gate, and a hypothetical 8th Gate. (Don’t get it mixed up btw, Lee has outright confirmed he can use the 8th Gate in Boruto, and DB not including it would be removing someone’s prime.) When opening the 6th Gate, Lee should scale to KCM Naruto. This is because Lee is capable of intercepting Juubidara and 8th Gate Guy with a kunai toss. While this may seem inconsistent at first, keep in mind, Lee was also able to blitz Madara and blow a hole through him (albeit it was with a Kyuubi Chakra Cloak provided by Naruto), and we haven’t seen much of what 6th Gate Lee is capable of, so this shouldn’t be too far off from what he can do. Scaling to KCM gives Lee a lot of good scaling. AP wise, Lee scales to Kirin (Large Mountain), Pain’s shinra Tensei/Naruto’s jinchuriki bijuu blast (Small Country), and Kurama’s Bijuu bombs (Island). Speed wise, he’d scale above Part 1 Haku, who is rela/light speed, and scale to KCM who dodged a light speed attack from the 4th Raikage Ay, which gets FTL+. In case anyone mentions the fact that the translation says, near or almost the speed of light, there is a more accurate translation that confirms it is at the speed of light. This isn’t calc stacking either, as Naruto is reacting to this exact attack. I'm not sure where the idea that it shouldn’t be taken as literal or should be taken as hyperbole came from, when the guidebook statements have been shown to be fairly accurate in the past and should count as a reliable source. Not to mention, it makes sense for Ay to be this fast narratively speaking. There are many more light speed feats/statements in naruto, like Samurai slashes, one of Itachi’s jutsu, and Itachi’s tsukuyomi, but those are more iffy and don’t help in any way with the debate so I’ll save those for another discussion.

A feat that can buff the verse pretty significantly is when Minato dodges the same Jutsu, Lariat, but from Jonin Ay instead of Raikage Ay. The argument against the feat is that Ay should be much faster when he’s the Raikage, but This has a couple problems. The guidebook never specifically implies that it’s Raikage Ay who is that fast, rather how fast the technique is (it says the taijutsu Lariat, then proceeds to describe how fast it is, and is additionally referring to Bee as well). Ay is seen as a major rival to Minato, even back then, and Minato being this fast also makes sense narratively speaking. It can get 25c, and 6th Gate Lee should upscale by quite a bit. I won’t use this feat, but it still could be used to counter a certain speed feat for Sanji that I’ll get to later.

Then we get to 8th Gate Lee. While this is a bit of a hypothetical, what isn’t is that Lee can use the 8th Gate. And given the reasons I’ve provided for the Gates not differing in power across different users, at least not to a large extent I think we can safely scale Lee to Guy when in the 8th Gate. In fact, he may even be stronger. In another guidebook statement, Lee is directly compared to Six Paths Sage Naruto, which, while not giving him many new speed scaling, would give him useful new AP scaling. With this in mind, along with the fact that he should be comparable to Guy, Lee when opening the 8th Gate should be around Multi Continental, via scaling to Base Naruto who survived this enromous crater made by his chakra , As well as Moon, via scaling to Six Paths Sage Naruto, who should be capable of doing this. (He received half of Hagoromo’s power). I’m much safer using multi cont for 8th Gate Lee’s ap, so we'll go with that for now.

                                 Other:

Lee is a very skilled fighter, being trained by Guy who is one of the most skilled Martial Artists in Konoha, and being trained all his life to fight a variety of opponents and to use the Eight Gates efficiently. He’s also got insane determination and willpower, even when hospitalized and being told that he will probably not be able to continue his career as a ninja, he still trains and pushes himself to work harder. He doesn’t have the best range as he relies on fighting up close and personal with punches and kicks, but those punches and kicks can very easily create powerful and wide shockwaves. Lee won’t be left completely helpless if he needs to close the gap in range between him and his opponent.

In Conclusion, without the inclusion of any multipliers:

Lee has Island - Small Country ap and durability in the 6th - 7th Gates, and is FTL+

Lee has Multi Continental ap and durability in the 8th Gate, and is FTL+

Now for Sanji:

                                     Sanji

             General Scaling/Feats:

Like I said, I won't go too in depth about Sanji’s stuff, just briefly going to mention what he scales to so we can get a grasp on how his stats compare to Lee’s. Sanji has some Small city scaling, in terms of pre time skip. As for speed, there are plenty of rela and light speed feats in one piece, even pre time skip, due to Kizaru’s light beams.

As for higher stuff, that’s where stampede comes into play. While I am conflicted on whether or not stampede should be used, it does stay consistent with One Piece for the most part and DB is already going to be using it anyways. Sanji should scale to both Zoro cutting a meteor, and Sabo intercepting Kizaru’s light beams with his fire wall. The meteor gets small country (which fits in with other calcs of it) and the infamous Sabo feat gets 49c .

                                  Other:

Sanji’s Raid Suit grants him invisibility, and a force field. Both of these are useful, though the more important one out of these is the invisibility, as it’s the first of a couple abilities that allow Sanji to possibly outlast the 8th Gate.

Sanji also knows moves like Diable Jambe, which burns someone in the inside (though I’d like to point out that this shouldn’t count as durability negation), Sky Walk, which lets him stay in the air, and Observation Haki, which allows him to be aware of his surrounds and predict what will happen next to him, including any oncoming attack.

Sanji is very skilled and experienced as well. He was trained by Zeff for many years with the Black Leg Style and has fought a wide variety of opponents. Although the Black Leg Style isn't the best in terms of safety as Sanji only follows through with that fighting style. He will not use his hands even if his life is in danger.

In conclusion:

Sanji should be small country - country in ap and durability, and FTL+.

                           Final Verdict

So when looking at this fight, you see something very, very apparent. With the 1st through 7th Gates, Lee does not win this. Even giving him the benefit of the doubt and giving him the 25c scaling, he gets overpowered and outsped. Not to mention Observation Haki is very useful in avoiding and predicting attacks, and would definitely make it even easier for Lee to tire our. The 8th Gate is where this debate changes heavily

With the 8th Gate, Lee should be the one to ap stomp, with Multi Continental - Moon scaling. This makes it so that not only does Sanji lose the stat trinity advantage, he gets one shot by anything Lee does. Any punch, any kick, any simple shockwave, it would simply kill Sanji the moment it hits him. Sanji does still have a speed advantage, but it’s nowhere near as big as the ap gap. To put it simply, Lee’s skill and overwhelming power should Trump Sanji’s slightly superior speed and superior abilities. Now, to address counter arguments:

“What about the 170c version of the Sabo feat”

170c isn’t quite as consistent as 49c for One Piece and even assuming it’s fine, from there you could simply argue the multipliers from Lee’s Gates would also be consistent. Multiply the Raikage calc by 10x, and we’ve got 110c for Lee. Making Sanji’s speed advantage even more minimal.

“Sky walk would allow for Sanji to stall out the 8th Gate”

Sanji has no prior knowledge on how the Gates work, and therefore wouldn’t even be aware that the 8th Gate has a time limit. There’s no reason to assume Sanji would stall his opponent out when he would much rather fight up close and personal, or at the very least figure out a way around his opponent’s superior strength. This is also assuming that Lee wouldn’t be able to fight in the air, when Guy with the 8th Gate was able to jump pretty high up and create very large shockwaves that affected a wide range around him.

“Invisibility would allow for Sanji to outlast”

While I don’t doubt that Sanji would use invisibility Against Lee, I don’t think it’s as big a deal as people make it out to be. Chakra can be used to sense other people, and specifically when Sanji turns invisible, it doesn’t stop dust, grass, or any other environmental factors around Sanji to indicate where he is (as seen here)

“Observation Haki would allow for Sanji to outlast”

This is by far the best tool Sanji has to outlast Lee. It’s something he has no reason to not use in this fight, and would alert him almost like a spider sense on when Lee is about to attack, giving him time to dodge or Evade him. However, not only does this not stop the shockwaves from one-shotting Sanji, but Lee has actually dealt with Sharingan users in the past (Madara and Sasuke) who both have a form of Precog. It allows them to sense the environment around them very well and predict what they’re opponents are about to do. While it’s not identical to Observation Haki, it still shows that Lee can get around Precognition and Environment Sensing. Couple that with the fact that he’s more skilled, and I think we have our winner.

Now, while I do think Sanji will win the episode, I believe that Lee has the skill, willpower, AoE, and strength to take the victory in a hard fought battle. I think Lee should win, and I’m not going to make a pun because I suck at them : )

Clockboxxer

(pretty funny how the verdict literally boiled down to Batman vs Spider-Man)

I have little to say about Batgirl vs Spider-Gwen. It exists, it was janky, let’s move on. no boomstick it wasn’t close lol

To my moderate chagrin, the next time is what everybody expected: Sanji VS Rock Lee. I don’t have a strong investment in either, but it could make for an interesting episode, and I’m glad One Piece fans are making their comeback. Naruto animations tend to be awesome, aside from...that first one...anyway-

YOOOOOOOOOOOOOO RDCWORLD MARK PHILLIPS IS VOICING ROCK LEE DAMN NOW I WANT HIM TO WIN

I feel bad for Naruto fans right now, cuz it looks like the fact of Naruto being one of 2 winners, and being the only one to SURVIVE his fight, is gonna remain. This is kind of a tragic case of Lee just not getting enough screen time. Which is weird, usually the student does everything in the mentor’s name, but instead, Guy just steals the spotlight.

For starters, we don’t even know what 8th Gate Lee LOOKS like, so he can’t even really show up in the animation, unless they wanna get really fanfiction-y.

Ignoring the unseen 8th Gate for a moment, Sanji’s got the fight locked down when the two are just at blows in their base forms. He’s just as skilled, and his physical superiority spells doom for mini Guy over here. It’s really cut-and-dry from that angle, so I guess the real debate comes in with 8th Gate, which, again, we have not seen.

Suppose that Lee busts the deadly gate out. Theoretically, he’s got the power to take Vinsmoke out. Buuuuut he also puts himself on a fatally dangerous time limit. We don’t know exactly what 8th Gate Guy can do, either. So any methods he has of catching Sanji are unclear.

Things like Sanji’s superior speed, Sky Walk, and invisibility with the Raid Suit make it extremely hard for Broccoli to get after him before he succumbs to the Gate of Death. Even with that trump card being his only shot at victory, it’s not a surefire thing.

I expect Lee to cap at 6th Gate in the fight, with the latter Gates mentioned afterwards. Are there a good amount of outcomes where Rocky gets in a good hit and kills Sanji? Yeah. But it definitely seems like the poor fella’s outmatched in most scenarios. He’s not leaving in One Piece. The winner is Vinsmoke Sanji. Though, uh, between you and me, I’d much rather prefer to be proven wrong. Poor Lee gets done dirty in his own series, is totally an underdog, and IS VOICED BY MARK PHILLIPS WOOO-

Sorry, but that’s about all I have to say. I’m definitely hype for the fight, though.

And I have a lot to say about next time. See you then.

VampyreNVRmore

(Check out this soundtrack I co-commissioned from Brandon Yates for Orochimaru VS Medusa)

Alright, we’re done with Batgirl VS Spider-Gwen. Now we can focus on a fight that’s actually exciting. In the Death Battle community, Sanji has a lot of requested opponents. Two of them are from Pokemon (Brock and Blaziken)., but I’ve never seen any notable substitutes for Lee. Therefore, it makes sense why this match-up got chosen to be made. I just wished that it didn’t get spoiled by that fucking leak. You should never ruin people’s fun.

Lee is an inspirational character, becoming a master in taijutsu since he’s unable to utilize ninjutsu or genjutsu through hard work and dedication. However, that’s going to be his downfall in this fight since he has to rely only on physical stats. Meanwhile, his opponent has other abilities alongside physical stats. Let me explain.

Regarding stats, Sanji has the advantage. However, Rock Lee can regain the strength advantage by unleashing the 8th Gate. But as you all know, using the 8th Gate equals dying after using it as shown in All Might VS Might Guy. Despite that though, Sanji can still get around it with his superior speed, and all he needs to do is to wait out Lee in the 8th Gate. While Lee can be unpredictable with his Drunken Fist fighting style, Sanji can potentially counter it with his Observation Haki. After all, it lets him sense and predict attacks.

Finally, there’s both combatants’ gear. While Lee is more versatile with his nunchucks and standard ninja tools, they pale in comparison to Sanji’s Raid Suit. Not only does the suit boost Sanji’s strength and speed, it also allows him to hover midair. In addition, Sanji can use its cape as a forcefield for defense. Lastly, Sanji can turn invisible with the Raid Suit. This is bad for Lee because unlike a handful of characters in Naruto, he isn’t a sensor-type ninja. Therefore, he’ll have no way of detecting an invisible opponent. It’ll be even worse if Sanji turns invisible while Lee is in the 8th Gate, forcing the latter to waste time looking for him.

Overall, Rock Lee only has physical stats to go for, but even Sanji has the edge in most of them. His Drunken Fist fighting style is only useful for when he’s drunk, but it can potentially be countered by Sanji’s Observation Haki. Finally, while the 8th Gate can allow Lee to finish the fight, it’s also on a time limit and will kill him once it’s used up. Sanji can wait out the 8th Gate with his superior speed and invisibility combined with Lee’s inability to sense others. In the end, Sanji was just too hot to handle, and Lee couldn’t stay in the kitchen.

Anyway, Death Battle has revealed Season 7’s finale to be Hulk VS Broly. At least it didn’t get spoiled in a leak. The animation for it is pretty hype. Since it’s a Dragon Ball character vs a comic book character, I’m going to post this.

So to keep things short and simple I think sanji wins. Sanji should outclass gates 1-6 in terms of stats and even if 8th gates is used would still be much faster to where he can outlast lee. Along with invisibility and precog which doesn't make for a fun time for small might guy. Yep. Lee got Vin-Smoked. The Winner is Vinsmoke Sanji

Da Lunge Fish

Now, my verdict, pretty straightforward. Sanji vs base Lee, or pretty much any Lee but 8th Gate L is an obvious Sanji dub. It will be like Massively Hypersonic and island Lee vs Country and MFTL Sanji. 8th Gate Lee even being used is not certain, as it was only mentioned in a guidebook and never used in the anime itself. While using 8th Gate, assuming he’s equal to Guy, Lee’ll be Multi Continent and FTL+, about 15c against Sanji’s 150c. It seems like Sanji can’t do anything to Lee now, but the truth is, with a 10x speed edge, plus invisibility and precognition, Sanji could simply outlast Lee until he dies. Lee is more skilled, but this won’t help, as the speed gap is too big, plus Sanji is smarter and has more useful techniques. And this is giving Lee a benefit of the doubt, assuming he will get the 8th gate. Sorry Lee, but you just won’t stay in one piece at the end of the fight.

Jedi Bender

Well this is just plain irritating. I love both characters, arguably the best parts of their respective anime’s,so I’ve dreaded this matchup for a long long time but regardless we still gotta pick a winner.

Now everyone has made great points for either one to take this. but most agree it’ll go to Pirate Gordon And unless Rock Lee does or doesn’t get 8th Gate

Legman’s got plenty of viable options to outlast Lee cuz in Stats he doesn’t compare, oh sure he can complete but Sanji can not only match him blow for blow but surpasses Lee altogether.

Really what it’ll come down to is will Sanji’s Haki be able to outlast 8th Gate?  from what I Remember and have seen so far YES it can IMO.  all that being said as much as Lee is hands down my boi

The chef Pirate has everything he needs Sanji FTW

>MFW Naruto is still the only Naruto character to survive a DB no matter who wins

Okay, so getting stuff out of the way. I was last here for Bucky vs Jason (Totally right on that one, because I always am ovo), so I’ll give my thoughts on the eps since then.

  • Bucky VS Jason: Fucking amazing, probably top 10 death battles in general

  • Crona VS Venom: Logistically? Unimpressive. Spiritually? GOATed.

  • Jon VS Sabrewulf: BLOOD MOOOOOON I WONT GIVE INTO YOUUUUU

  • Red VS Blue: Funny and well-done, Torrian’s work is always great

  • Babs VS Gwen: Overhated tbh, solid 7/10

Alright anyway, that out of the way, it’s ya girl here to talk about the next death battle. Rock Lee vs Sanji, huh. Sanji vs Sabin Rene Figaro is infinitely superior but FF6 is comparatively niche so whatever. Anyway, I absolutely know Sanji’s gonna win the eps via Lee being lightning timing VS Sanji’s light timing, and then having a higher meteor yield. That’s gonna just be how it is.

BUT.

I think Lee should still win this, and here’s why: The Gates.

Lee’s confirmed to be able to use the Eighth Gate thanks to statements from Boruto, which at minimum should put him at multi-continent level pretty solidly at his best. In comparison, Sanji hits around Country, possibly Continent if you take his larger stuff at face value. Which… I don’t scale Sanji to Whitebeard’s best stuff. Also, 6th gate Guy probably scales to the 44 teraton meteor that Madara can throw out which would be above Zoro’s 7 teraton meteor.

Speed-wise, Lee’s sitting around 11c while Sanji is sitting around 49c, not quite a 5x difference. So he could outlast, maybe? Well… probably not, to be honest. See, Guy went from keeping up with Kisame in base form to blitzing Juubi Madara with the Eighth gate. That’s… WAY more than a 5x buff in speed, considering that even Edo Tensei Madara was effortlessly keeping up with all five Kage at once, which should be on par with or even superior to Guy.

Now this obviously hinges on Guy and Lee being comparable, but I think that’s a pretty fair assessment, all things considered, especially with Adult Lee. Given that, while Sanji will most certainly win the episode, Lee should have the strength, durability, and speed to make sure that Sanji gets Vin-Smoked.

Anyway can’t wait to kill a dragon ball character, see you guys next time

Ninten

Where am I?

There's a chance that Sanji could die. Not happy!

I probably don't need to repeat the same arguments I'm sure other people have made before as well. Stampede is being used, which means that, unless Death Battle were to take a wildly different interpretations of the feats, Sanji should be stronger than Lee up to the 7th gate and is going to be faster than him no matter what.

What is going to be a concern however is exactly how much faster Sanji would be compared to a (hypothetical) 8th gate Lee and whether that is going to be a large enough gap to allow him to outlast the gates. I think it will.

First, remember that these aren't just bland placeholder characters with stats slapped onto them. Even if you accepted a lower end version for the Stampede speed feat and put Sanji at 49c then actually gave Lee 15c as his speed (I have some personal grievances with the raikage scaling, but I'll accept it as a high end so as to give him the benefit of the doubt and to waste less time arguing with two people - you know who you are), try fighting someone who is 3x faster than yourself. Even if it's not technically a blitz, you're still going to get outmatched and have a hard time tagging your opponent.

Add that to the fact that you are currently literally dying using a form with a time limit that you have no experience using ever, and the fact that your opponent can turn invisible, has a spider-sense and can literally fly, I don't see Lee making the hit he needs.

I'm not completely discounting Lee, however. I can easily see him winning the episode, and the reasoning for Sanji winning, while they have made similar verdicts in the past, never had an exact 1:1 situation with Sanji literally avoiding every attack of Lee's (and I don't recall Sanji running through time causing it to accelerate either). But I can't change my verdict based on a very subjective interpretation which requires giving Lee a lot of benefit of the doubts and just assuming Death Battle will use said interpretation and not Sanji's because they never did anything 1:1 to it before.

I am cautiously voting for Sanji, lest my winning streak I've somehow managed to keep be Vinsmoked

The Draconic Hero

Loving me the fuck out of Wano

Okay, let’s get down to this. Sanji Vs Rock Lee. For me, not the most hype matchup in the world, especially since Death Battle blew their load by letting us know what the Season Finale is early. (Broly v Hulk is hype).

So where does that leave us with this matchup? Well...in an interesting place. If you had held this battle a few years ago, Rock Lee would’ve blown Sanji out of the water, but thanks to One Piece being, in parody, to be as long running as the Simpsons, Sanji has slowly overtaken the ninja. Invisibility, Observation Haki and Armament Haki allow Sanji to hold the advantage ball for most of the fight. Rock Lee could certainly take Sanji down with him via the 8th gate, but there is a big big difference between Might Guy Vs All Might and Rock Lee’s situation here.

In Might Guy vs All Might, Might Guy didn’t need to go 8th gate to take All Might down. Here, it looks like Rock Lee needs it to bring Sanji down, or Sanji is going to serve him up a full course meal in death. And Sanji has just enough proper tools to outlast the 8th gate.

The important question is if Sanji is tactical enough to take advantage of these. And while running away is not his style, Sanji is absolutely faster and Observation Haki further boosts his chance of avoiding getting hit in a fist fight and Armament Haki could help him survive some nasty blows.

So, could Rock Lee win? Absolutely he could. Will he win? Probably not. Thanks, Kishimoto, shafting a side character is the reason Sanji is about to cook up and savor the sweet taste of victory.

TheNerd-Bot

Robin is best girl, fuckin’ fight me.

Let me preface this verdict by admitting that I know next to nothing about Naruto, and most of my knowledge is coming from what folks have told me and what research has shown. While I did grow up reading both Bleach and One Piece with my older sisters, I unfortunately didn’t read the third member of the Holy Shonen Trio, Noot Noot. The first few chapters didn’t really interest me as much, but from what I’ve seen, I may have to rectify that, if only for the undistilled awesomeness that is Rock Lee and Might Guy. Fortunately, I’ve been keeping up with One Piece, so I can at least help in terms of my guy Sanj’s end. While he may not be my favorite Straw Hat(those honors go to Robin and Brook), I can at least respect the guy for how he managed to get through the shitty life he’s had. That goes for Lee too, considering the guy was basically considered the ninja equivalent of an invalid. Plus, give me badass martial arts over Devil Fruits and Ninja Magic any day, amirite?

Onto the results themselves, this fight is very… interesting to say the least. In terms of overall skills and abilities, it’s kind of hard to discern who has the bigger advantage here. In terms of versatility, with his Raid Suit, Diable Jambe technique, Haki, Sky Walk, and… odd plastic surgery talents, an argument can be made that his overall library of techniques is more versatile than Lee’s. He’s also a lot smarter than Lee. Lee’s not dumb… I think, but Sanji’s proven to be a lot smarter than Lee, thanks to his skill at making strategies up on the fly, alongside his immense knowledge of the human body. Though it is concerning that he equates human body parts to meat to be cooked… On the other hand, Lee has been training for much longer under an arguably more skilled master in the form of Might Guy. He’s also much less limited in what he can do thanks to Sanji’s self-imposed restrictions. So in overall skill, it goes pretty back and forth, making me call this a Bara-tie. Yes, I know it’s not pronounced that way, shaddap.

In terms of arsenal, however, I’m going to have to give the point to Sanji on this one. While yes, Rock Lee has a more variety of weapons compared to Sanji’s singular Raid Suit, I’m af-Raid that the Raid Suit blows anything Might Guy’s protege has out of the water. Shurikens and explosive tags ain’t getting through that forcefield, and Lee has no way of seeing the chef when he turns invisible. Plus, Lee can’t really fly, unlike Sanji who can hover through the air with his suit… which kinda seems redundant with the Sky Walk, but hey, I’m not an evil abusive father running a country of super-soldiers, what the fuck do I know?

Finally, the most important factor, in terms of overall stats, this is where things get kinda fucked on Lee’s end. Speed-wise, the two are pretty comparable, assuming the best for Lee, at Lee-st. Scaling Sanji to Luffy and Rock Lee to Naruto, both are fast enough to react to and dodge light-based attacks, with Luffy dodging the Pacifista’s laser(which was based off of Kizaru’s Pika Pika no Mi, which lets him fire off and move as a beam of light) and Naruto avoiding Madara’s Light Fang technique(which has been confirmed to be an actual beam of light.) While some have cast doubts on Naruto’s Light Fang feat, it is consistent with later portrayals of his speed, where he was able to avoid a photon ray(not the Fate/EXTRA version) and Delta’s lasers, giving credence to this idea.

The issue, however, is that while these feats may be consistent for Naruto, Lee himself is a different story. Because of the writer screwing him over him eventually being far surpassed by Naruto thanks to him being Ninja Jesus, applying these feats to Lee himself is admittedly somewhat shaky. What isn’t shaky, however, is how Sanji beats out Rock Lee in terms of raw power.

Rock Lee’s best overall thing we can give him scaling wise is comparing him to Sasuke, who was able to obliterate an absolutely massive meteorite that was going to destroy Konoha.

Comparing the size of this rock to Ninja Mount Rushmore down there, this feat would have to take roughly two Gigatons of TNT for him to destroy. Lee in the same movie was able to replicate this feat… with help from eleven other ninja. *sigh* Poor guy. Dividing Sasuke’s meteor feat by eleven, and you get 166 Megatons of TNT. Given how physics work, we can also apply this power output to his own durability.

So Rock’s got a pretty hefty meteorite destruction feat on his side, that’s pretty neat! …now guess who broke an even bigger rock.

Eat yer heart out, Erza.

In the One Piece Stampede movie, Admiral Fujitora dropped an utterly massive meteor, at least three miles long and two miles high, intent on crushing the pirates. Zoro, being Zoro, leaps up into the air and cuts it clean in half. The sheer force required for Zoro to make the cut would equate to almost seven Teratons of TNT. And unlike Lee, we don’t have to divide this feat by anything considering Zoro and Sanji are explicitly known as equals/rivals. So… yeah, Lee’s kinda fucked.

Some folks may note that this feat shouldn’t be counted in terms of scaling since Stampede’s canonicity is debatable, but even if we don’t include Stampede, we still have the other Zoro feat, that being him one-shotting Pica. Pica was able to raise Flower Hill up pretty high with his Ishi Ishi no Mi, which would take over three times more energy than what Lee could output.

The final thing we have to address is Lee’s Eight Gates, the same technique that Might Guy has access. If Lee reaches the Eighth Gate, then it’s possible he could kill Sanji if we scale the Splendid Ninja to Might Guy’s feats in that state, but… that’s also a situation that requires a lot of assumptions, given that Rock Lee’s never shown to be able to reach the Eighth Gate in the first place, Might Guy’s trained for a lot longer to master the Eight Gates than he has, and Sanji has several options to wait out the timer that Lee has regardless, such as Observation Haki, flight, and the Raid Suit’s invisibility. Simply put, the Eighth Gate’s just not a reliable enough option to argue the win for Lee in this instance.

Rock Lee’s certainly an amazing warrior and an admirable hero, but Sanji simply has the better arsenal, the better stats, and the better eyebrow to take home the win in this heated matchup. In the end, the Splendid Ninja from Konoha is gonna have his shit Rocked as the Straw Hat Chef shatters him to Pieces. You see it's here a Lee, there a Lee, and everywhere a Lee, a Lee! Here a Lee, there a Lee, and everywhere a Lee!

Ah, that reference is probably only gonna be funny for me, isn’t it? Oh well.

Robin (TexasRoastingOnAnOpenFire)

This episode has been a bit glanced over since we all know that Hulk vs Broly is coming up soon, but honestly it doesn’t make it any less cool. Anime matchups are dope as hell, and this one has two great characters who are pretty similar.

Overall, however, I don’t really think there’s much room for debate. Sanji claps Lee before he gets to the eighth gate. When Lee reaches that, he’s got enough of a stat advantage to AP stomp given time...but that’s not something he’s really going to have. Lee will die due to the eighth gate after a while, so it’s all down to speed in this instance. Sanji scales to much higher speed feats overall and has observation haki to keep him alive. Overall, I just don’t really see how Lee is gonna pull out the win here. Going to have to give this one to Sanji.

Cyber

Give best marvel boy his dues

Due to time constraints, have to do a quick one again

Sanji:

I think he takes ap for the most part, really only losing to a hypothetical eight gates lee or if you scale lower gates to when lee was amped by naruto.

He’s also faster, though I don't buy the sabo feat (150c), moreso for narrative consistency issues. (Doesn't help that stampede isn't canon)

He has the hax and equipment to outlast lee, though i will provide a scenario where he does not after the lee section.

Lee:

Lee gets gigatons at best without a hypothetical full 8 gates, unless you scale his lower gates to his feat of bisecting edo madara when he was amped by naruto.

This notion may be possible due to how bijuu multipliers are treated in a canon Sakura novel

Tail increases are treated as “orders of magnitudes”, which can be 10x

In comparison, the gates are treated similarly

So a comparison may be possible.

For speed, Base Lee reacted to haku leaving his ice mirrors, and with gates, can dodge attacks from 1 eye juubidara. This gives him solid ftl reaction/combat speed

Light speed feats/statements for the naruto series here:

naruto light speed justifications - Google Docs

Scenario where lee wins:

Should the sabo feat be considered inconsistent, both lee and sanji upscale from light speed. Sanji still has an advantage in speed, but full 8 gates should at least be comparable.

I don't see this happening tough, so i favor Sanji

(After all these years the time has finally come for the return of a grand epic adventure my hope is here)

So Spider-Gwen vs Barbara happened and went as everyone knew it would. Gwen won for the exact same reasons Peter did and the episode itself turned out pretty alright but nothing that really stood out to me. Then the most interesting thing from the episode  trailer for the next time was revealed.

SANJI VS ROCK LEE YES YES YES YES IS FINALLY HERE WHOOOOO I AM UNBELIEVABLY EXCITED AND HYPED LETSSSSSSS GOOOOOO!

Yeah out of every matchup this season this is the one I’ve been the most hyped for and invested in. I am a massive fan of One Piece it’s one of my favorite franchises of all time and I’ve greatly enjoyed reading and watching it since I’ve gotten into it a few years ago it’s genuinely one of the greatest stories I’ve ever experienced, some of the most fun and greatest friends I’ve ever made were all thanks to it and it’s world and characters are just so incredible words couldn’t go them justice it’s the best selling manga of all time and close to approaching 1000 chapters for good reason Sanji of course is one of my favorites from it and it’s been wonderful to experience OP again and rexpercing his greatest moments. Naruto similarly has been one of the very first anime I’ve ever gotten into since childhood and it’s been with me and important to me ever since, I love many of it’s characters and Rock Lee is no exception, I’ve always loved his story and character and at his best he provided me with some of my greatest childhood memories (taking off his weights was the hypest shit and it still is to this day). So naturally when this match was finally confirmed my hype levels exploded past the roof and pierced the heavens. I finally get to cover these 2 in a matchup it’s been wonderful getting to help work on this blog for 2 weeks and they pair together really well not only excelling in kick based fighting styles but also being born as completely normal humans with no talent and being constantly discriminated and abused for it by their peers before they become the talented masters they are today though the help of their beloved mentors/father figures and endless amounts of hard work and determination.

And of course the fight has been consistently hyped up by Jetz/Luis who’s a fantastic animator. Add that with the research team and I have little doubt this will be an amazing episode I’ll absolutely love.

Which leads to the topic at hand which of the two will prevail here in this match well to kick things off here it needs to be said Lee unfortunately is going into a uphill battle for him because Lee was neglected and shafted hard in Part 2 of Naruto not doing anything during the vast majority of Shippuden (legit the amount of significant moments he has can probably be counted on 1 hand) so it becomes hard to scale him to a lot of the crazy things that happens in later Naruto, Sanji meanwhile is part of the monster trio of the Straw Hats has had a consistent presence throughout the majority of the story and even has an entire arc dedicated to him along with plenty of feats so it’s already not looking very good for Lee, like comparing his research guide to Sanji’s is actually depressing.

Starting off with physical stats it’s clear Sanji surpasses Lee in virtually every area when comparing them outside of the 8th gate. Lee is a bit difficult to assign a level to cause not having many feats or fights with notable characters. High city level to island level is clear with some scaling such as smacking around a Naruto with Kyubi 4 tails cloak, harming Edo Madara when amped by Kyubi chakra (alebit a questionable feat) being comparable to Guy with 6 of his gates opened and of course his best direct feat shattering a massive meteorite heading for Konoha village alongside 11 other ninja

Depending on the Calc and dividing its destruction by the amount of people involved this puts Lee with the 6th gate at 166 megatons to 35 gigatons so around high city level to island level AP. While definitely impressive Sanji exceeds thanks to scaling to his long time rival Roronoa Zoro.

(Because it wouldn’t be Shonen without meteors)

In Stampede when Fujitora summoned a massive meteor Zoro leaped into the air sliced it in half at the very least the energy needed to accomplish this feat is almost 7 teratons with it potentially being even higher up to country to large country levels of energy and Sanji can definitely scale to this due being a consistent rival and equal to Zoro to the point it’s been a running theme since the East Blue days of One Piece. On top of that Zoro was able to slice through Pica a massive stone golem who with his Devil Fruit Ishi Ishi no mi was able to move and raise the Flower Hill very high to the surface which requires 377 megatons to pull off and the sheer kinetic energy of Pica maintaining and moving his massive stone body results in 65 gigatons of energy and Zoro both tanked a massive hit from Pica with only a tiny scratch to show for it but also sliced him to pieces as previously mentioned. Backing this up even further is Sanji harming and fighting on equal footing with Vergo, one of Doflamingo’s supreme executive officers and should be on a similar level to Pica so Sanji should definitely be comparable to his level of power.

If you want to take it even further Zoro managed to survive getting hit by Fujitora’s gravity the same gravity that can lift the entirety of the rubble of Dressrosa and most impressively can call down massive meteors a feat at the very least coming out to 9 teratons and with the massive size of the OP world into account it’s definitely reasonable for them to be this powerful if not greater so no matter how you slice it Sanji is definitely much stronger and tougher than Lee baring the 8th gate.

Speed is another area Sanji takes the advantage in starting off with his biggest feat he dodged a jellybean tossed by Charlotte Katakuri that was intended to kill him surprising even Katakuri himself with his speed. This is notable because Katakuri possesses exceptional levels of observation haki that allow him to see a few seconds into the future and should be on the same level as the 1st division commander of the Whitebeard Pirates Marco who intercepted Kizaru’s lightspeed attack (0.57c) putting Sanji’s speed over half the speed of light at least. And with numerous other relativistic to FTL feats in OP such as Luffy dodging Foxy’s Nero photons, Zoro dodging Kuma’s lightspeed paw pads, numerous instances of dodging Pacifista’s lasers which were based off Kizaru’s Pika Pika no mi which has been confirmed to be lightspeed both in universe and WOG via the Vivre Card databook this definitely helps solidifies Sanji’s speed. And that’s without getting into easily the best feat Sabo intercepting and outpacing Kizaru’s light before it could reach a fleet of ships, this feat has been calced at least 49c making it a FTL+ feat and could potentially get even higher and since Sanji is comparable to characters who are comparable to Sabo (Smoker and Rob Lucci) he should scale to this speed so in any case he’s definitely faster then anything you can argue for Lee.

Lee’s speed mainly depends on what calcs and feats you use for Naruto. The databooks do give lightspeed to things such as Mifune’s beam of light and the Raikage’s Lariat which several characters have reacted to such as Kyubi Cloak Naruto outpacing the Raikage’s fastest punch (which some have calced to be in the FTL range) Lee doesn’t have a lot of notable feats himself but him tossing a Kunai Knife in between Juubi Madara’s Truth Seeking balls and 8th Gate Guy could be argued for him scaling to Kyubi cloak Naruto and also intercepting Edo Haku from his ice mirror. But even using these he still is ultimately slower than Sanji’s best.

And then this leads to the main factor that makes this match so debatable the 8th gate of death. Lee has never used it himself but it has been confirmed he is able to open all 8 by Boruto. So theoretically he should be able to achieve a similar level to 8th gate Guy who nearly killed Juubi Madara with it and scales to many of the top tier feats in Naruto (such as Obito raising the Shinju Tree) there is a statement that implies 8th gate Lee may be comparable to Six Paths Mode Naruto but it is somewhat questionable and can be interpreted in several ways. And of course the fact Lee has never actually used the 8th gate himself yet and doesn’t have definitive evidence for scaling to Guy’s 8th gate yet makes the scaling questionable and uncertain.

But the real kicker here is even if you were to use the 8th gate for Lee it has a time limit for how long it can be used until Lee dies from using it, and Sanji has several means of outlasting the 8th gate, such as his superior speed, using Sky Walk for extra mobility and cover large distances in the air, observation haki to sense Lee’s presence and aura to detect his power and has precognition to predict and avoid incoming attacks and with the power of science and Super Sentai  Sanji can dawn Germa 66’s raid suit Stealth Black, which not only increases his already incredible physical abilities but most importantly also grants him the ability of invisibility making it even more difficult for Lee to hit Sanji and helping him to outlast the 8th gate even more. I guess growing up under an abusive family with highly advanced technology plotting to conquer the North Blue ultimately did some good after all.

Lee is definitely a phenomenal and splendid ninja and combatant and he’ll definitely put up a great fight in this upcoming amazing fight but Sanji’s superior physical abilities, more useful variety of abilities, equal if not greater skill then Lee and having ways to outlast the 8th gate should it come to that is more than enough for him to take the win. Looks like broccoli is on the menu today because Rock Lee’s world is going up in Vin-Smoke.

Speedy

Maybe if Lee ever gets off his ass and does something this’ll end up being more of a toss-up

Phantom Falcon

Fuck, Lee is dying all my preferred characters are dying now Crona won but fuuuuuuuuuuuck Broly, Sabre, and now Lee finna die I hate this season fuck this season

Annoucement from Mal:

Just one small announcement, due to a certain event that you most likely have heard about called Christmas, we will be posting Hulk vs Broly on Thursday the 24th of December rather than Saturday the 26th of December. This is mostly to give us a break during Christmas Day and to do a Christmas celebration at the end of Hulk vs Broly.

Olimar vs the Knight is still being worked on and will hopefully be released next week. Also we will be announcing our plans for the seasonal break in our Hulk vs Broly Blog.

Besides that i have nothing more to say expect - hope you have enjoyed the blog and look forward to the season finale.

  2. Why the blog didn't mention the feat of Pre-Timeskip Luffy destroying a floating island with Gear 3rd in Strong World? It was still something worth mention, since Current Sanji scale above Pre-Timeskip Luffy.

    2. We used the sources that were suggested in UltraGuy's suggested reading list. Of those, only Film Z and Stampede were listed, so we only used feats from those two films.

    3. I see, weird that only Stampede and Z were going to be considered in the analysis, although it is no big deal at the end of the day.

Also, speaking about Z, didn't Zephyr survived a massive explosion which destroyed an island?

    4. Yes, he did...

But Luffy is the one who traded blows with Zephyr, so that feat is of not use to Sanji

  5. I'd like to point out that scaling Lee to Guy is kinda shaky since, even though they have virtually the same moveset, Guy's consistently shown to be Lee's superior (when both spar w/ 6th Gate activated, Guy's the one dominating), so using Guy's 8th Gate as 1:1 comparison to Lee's theoretical 8th Gate is shaky as hell.

  6. Should've added this in my first comment (and it's super late because the battle's out now), but it also turns out that Sanji can use Observation Haki to sense Lee's rising power levels as he unlocks the Gates; even if he doesn't know about the Gates, he can still easily tell that Lee's getting stronger every time he shouts about the next numbered gate, and would switch his strategy accordingly to potentially even KO Lee before he can reach the 8th Gate.
