Madara Uchiha, the “peacekeeping” shinobi of legend from Naruto.

Sōsuke Aizen, Bleach’s zealous captain of treachery.

The truth can be a harmful thing. What happens to a man when the veil of lies hiding the injustices of reality are lifted? In some cases, immaterial dreams lead to the desire for material change, to supplant the system the man in question now truly understands with a world of their own making. The illusory nature of their wishes and powers didn't make Madara Uchiha or Sosuke Aizen intangible threats to the world order, however. Through suffering and strife, they both grew truly powerful in body and spirit.

How far would you go to achieve your ideal destiny? What powers shall you obtain in exchange for everyone else as the lamb beneath your feet? These two masterminds wanted, above all else, salvation for humanity. The hypocrisy of man twisted and warped their rationality to the extreme, and today they pit their ideologies against one another to see who commands the more powerful will.

After being requested for a long time, and becoming a Community Death Battle, it is about time for a DEATH BATTLE!

A Heads Up from Ya Bois

Since we are talking about Shonen and returning once again to the world of Naruto and Bleach, here is the reminder again of how we will run this fight down. The primary sources for both series will be the manga, with the shows, novels and confirmed canon movies like Naruto: The Last Movie and Bleach: Memories of Nobody as secondary. Anything from the J-Stars series or Jump Force will be excluded since both do not follow the original lore, but any abilities are acceptable in supporting evidence.

Madara and Aizen will have their full potential abilities and haxes in this matchup that goes with their stories, so Aizen will have his Hōgyoku and Madara shall get his Rinnegan and Six Paths.

With that out of the way, LET’S FINALLY END THIS DEBATE ONCE AND FOR ALL!!!

Background

Madara Uchiha

“You're getting in the way of everyone's happiness. Our game ends here. I turned hell into heaven. You should understand… It's already over.”

Born during a violent time and era known as the Warring States Period, Madara Uchiha was one of the 5 children of Tajima Uchiha. As a child, Madara and his siblings were drafted into the battlefield against the enemies of the Uchiha, the Senju. Unfortunately, 3 of his siblings died young, and only he and his brother, Izuna, were left alive. Madara grew quite close to Izuna, sharing in their struggles through the battlefield and the losses they suffered, and they even competed with each other to become stronger. One day, he met up with a member of the Senju, Hashirama. Despite them being on opposite sides of the battlefield, the two quickly developed into close friends, and even shared the same ideal world where there can be peace between the lands, where children didn’t have to fight. However, after they both discovered which clan they were a part of, Madara ended his friendship with Hashirama so he would have no regrets of killing him in the future, a resolve which awakened his Sharingan. For the next two decades, the Uchiha and Senju continued to battle, with Madara and Hashirama frequently fighting each other, eventually becoming the clan leaders.

During one fight, tragedy struck, and Izuna was struck down by Tobirama Senju, Hashirama’s brother, prompting Madara to retreat with his brother. Unfortunately, Izuna died, his wound fatal. Before he passed on, Izuna gave Madara his own eyes so he could obtain the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan, restoring Madara’s vision and giving him greater resolve than before. But even with this new power at his disposal, Madara lost the next battle, finally defeated. However, Hashirama spared Madara’s life, and even offered up his own life if it meant peace could be restored between both clans, which truly touched Madara. He accepted Hashirama’s offer of peace, finally ending the several decade long war and bringing the Uchiha and Senju together.

With the two of them at each other's side, Madara and Hashirama built together a village of peace, where no children would have to fight in war and die again. This village became known as Konohagakure, The Village Hidden in the Leaves. However, Madara and Hashirama’s visions of peace differed from each other drastically: While Madara sought peace by controlling the land, Hashirama sought peace by working together and joining with other clans. This conflict of ideals, as well as discovering the endless cycle of hatred and pain caused by the Uchiha and Senju and the constant repeated failures of peace for the world, led Madara to believing that Konoha was a failed experiment. Unfortunately, none of the Uchiha or even Hashirama believed Madara, ultimately leaving Madara with the decision to leave Konoha. After several attacks on the village, including with the Nine-Tails Fox at his hand, Madara was ultimately killed by Hashirama in their final battle…

...or so people thought. As it turns out, Madara had a secret back-up plan all along, the Mangekyō Sharingan technique known as Izanagi. By trading the sight of his right eye, Madara came back to life, effectively making his death an illusion and changing reality. After leaving a copy of his body to fabricate a corpse, Madara went into hiding and transplanted into himself parts of Hashirama’s flesh. These cells activated near the end of Madara’s natural life, not only awakening his Rinnegan, but restoring the sight of his right eye. For the next several years, Madara planned his ultimate dream of peace known as The Eye of the Moon. However, with not much time left, Madara transplanted his Rinnegan into a young boy named Nagato (who would later be known in the world as Pain), hoping the child can revive him in due time once he’s passed away. However, Madara needed an agent to act on his behalf and lead Nagato into reviving him. After multiple years of waiting, in came Obito Uchiha, who was stuck between a rock and a hard place. Using the cells of Hashirama to repair Obito’s broken body, Madara slowly began corrupting the young Shinobi into a man of darkness, manipulating the events that would later lead to the death of Obito’s love interest, Rin Nohara. Having lost all faith in humanity from that point onward, Obito agreed to help Madara with his plan of achieving the dream world. Thus, after giving Obito a companion in the form of Black Zetsu, who he believed to be his very will, Madara drew his last breath…

...until he was brought back to life…again, thanks to the reanimation jutsu used by Kabuto Yakushi. With him returning to the land of the living, Madara sought to fight in war once again to achieve his ideal dream of the Shinobi world. However, trouble struck with Madara realizing he was an Edo Tensei instead of being normally revived like how he wanted to be. After multiple battles, including fighting his longtime rival Hashirama once again, Madara used his subordinate, Black Zetsu, to take control of Obito’s body after the latter was defeated and lost the power of the Ten Tails jinchūriki. With Zetsu performing Rinne Rebirth, Madara was finally properly revived, his full power now restored. After having fought and easily defeated Naruto and Sasuke, Madara sealed the Ten Tails into himself, becoming a jinchūriki. Even with this immense power, Madara was still held back (and nearly died) thanks to the efforts of Might Guy and a powered up Naruto and Sasuke. Against all odds, however, Madara managed to awaken his Rinne Sharingan and used his ultimate move: The Infinite Tsukuyomi, with the entire world under the influence of it and being stuck in the dream world he fought and sought for so long. Thinking he’s won, Madara gloats his victory and prepares a final battle with Naruto and Sasuke…until he gets c̶u̶c̶k̶e̶d̶ ̶o̶u̶t̶ ̶o̶f̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶ ̶r̶o̶l̶e̶ ̶o̶f̶ ̶f̶i̶n̶a̶l̶ ̶v̶i̶l̶l̶a̶i̶n̶ stabbed by Black Zetsu, who was planning to betray Madara all along and bring the revival of his true will, Kaguya Ōtsutsuki. Overflowing with the Chakra of all those trapped in the Infinite Tsukuyomi, Madara’s body is replaced by that of the revived Kaguya.

After Naruto and Sasuke seal away Kaguya in her own dimension, Madara’s body is spit out and freed. However, due to the loss of the Tailed Beasts, Madara doesn’t have long before he finally dies...for real this time. With all the remaining time he has left, Madara decided to speak to Hashirama once more, admitting that his dreams of the Shinobi world were inferior to Hashirama’s due to his own having died while Hashirama’s lived. Even after everything that’s happened, Hashirama still sees Madara as his friend, and promises to drink as war buddies. With Madara somenly agreeing with his old friend, he passes on for good, the false savior’s ideals of the dream world ending with him.

Sōsuke Aizen

"I suppose it is only to be expected. You have my pity. There is no such thing as 'truth' or 'lies' in this world; there never has been. There are only plain, hard facts. And yet, all beings who exist in this world take only those 'facts' that are convenient to them, and take them to be the 'truth'. They do so because they know no other way to live. However, for those powerless beings that make up the majority of this world it is those 'facts' that are inconvenient for their own self-affirmation that make up the real 'truth'."

Millions of years ago, all of creation existed as a turbulent chaos where life and death existed as one. No life-form could properly die, and thus Hollows were born. Hollows continuously devoured, growing without consequence, and so the Hollows responded by granting a savior: The Soul King. This being would remove the Hollows from existence, but in the process endanger the already unstable creation. The ancestors of the five royal families would come together and mutilate the Soul King, using his power to split the world into three different realms and separate life and death from one another. This would become the Original Sin: Soul Society, Hueco Mundo, and the World of the Living, the three realms that gave birth to the modern-day Soul Flow. Knowledge of the Original Sin was forbidden and falsehoods would be spread on what actually happened and the true nature of the Soul King, all upheld by the 5 royal families. In order to keep life and death separate, souls would become soldiers called balancers (later titled Shinigami), meant to keep the flow going without issues.

One such Shinigami was Sōsuke Aizen. Born as one of the strongest souls to ever set foot in the Soul Society, Aizen would live out his life initially with a subconscious desire to become a divine being, a part of his nature as an "envoy". From childhood and onward, Aizen would struggle to make any meaningful relationship due to his inability to trust others. This stemmed from his overbearing strength, which gave birth to an internal solitude. Aizen would seek out someone, anyone who could understand his loneliness born from strength but could find no such individual in his life. Growing only to trust in himself and his own power, Aizen would seek out knowledge and discover answers that would change his life forever.

At some point, Aizen learned of the Original Sin, and of the true nature of the afterlife he served. The Soul Society was not a paradise but rather a hellhole. Poverty, disease, a distinction of social class, murder. All these things existed in what was supposed to be a peaceful realm for the souls of the dead. Aizen learned of the treachery of the five families and swore that he would not allow himself to be ruled by them or by the false figurehead they had made the mutilated Soul King into. Swearing on to himself that he would remove these corrupt despots and make a new paradise for all, Aizen joined the 5th division of the Gotei 13 military, having previously served as a teacher at Shin'ō Academy. Aizen would begin work on making the Hōgyoku, a living "device'' meant for the purpose of granting his heart's desire. Using his position as a lieutenant, he would sacrifice both Shinigami and innocent souls alike, culminating in him meeting a young Gin Ichimaru after stealing a piece of the Soul King from a young girl. Gin would join Aizen under the pretext of serving him but truly intended to avenge his friend Rangiku, the young girl Aizen had nearly killed.

In the build-up to his master plan, Aizen would bring Kaname Tōsen to his side, a blind Soul Reaper with a profound sense of justice who had been wronged by the very Soul Society he served. Eventually, Aizen would betray his captain, Shinji Hirako, leaving him and several other captains and lieutenants for dead after using the Hōgyoku to Hollowfy them. It was at this time Aizen would come into conflict with fellow genius, Kisuke Urahara. Around this time, Aizen also conquered Hueco Mundo and began the production of his future Hollow army.

100 years later, Aizen would plant the seeds for the birth of Ichigo Kurosaki, by sending a Hollow that would infect a young Quincy named Masaki. Aizen would observe Ichigo for the rest of his life, planning on using the boy for his own ends. Moving on to the final stages of his plan, Aizen intended to feed Urahara’s own Hōgyoku to his own, and to do so frames Rukia and sets her to be executed, as she was the vessel for the second Hōgyoku. Faking his own death and using his illusionary abilities, Aizen pits all of the Gotei 13 against each other. After Ichigo saves Rukia from her execution, Aizen would reveal his treachery and depart to Hueco Mundo with the stolen second Hōgyoku.

With all-out war foreseeable in the near future, Aizen evolved 10 Hollows to become his elite fighting force, the Espada. Using the Espada, Aizen tricked Ichigo and several captains into going into his capital city, Las Noches, all while he set course to sacrifice Ichigo’s hometown of Karakura to reach the palace of the Soul King. After his Espada perish and the death of Tōsen, Aizen single-handedly defeated the Gotei 13 and used his battle with Urahara and his allies to evolve himself using the complete Hōgyoku. Ascending to a state beyond both Shinigami and Hollow, Aizen would survive Gin’s attempt on his life and leave him mortally wounded. At this exact time, a transcendent Ichigo would engage Aizen in a final battle for the lives of Karakura Town. For the first time in his life, Aizen had found an equal, if not stronger being than himself and this would lead the Hōgyoku to grant his subconscious desire to be understood. Weakened by his wish, Aizen would be sealed by Kisuke Urahara and sentenced to 20,000 years of imprisonment.

Now immortal by the effects of the Hōgyoku, Aizen would ironically protect the very Soul Society he despised, all for the sake of preventing Yhwach, the son of the Soul King, from returning the realms to as they were before the Original Sin. Aizen would assist his once mortal enemy Ichigo, and in the end, Yhwach was slain. Ultimately, his perspective changed by these events. Aizen would later note Yhwach’s ideal world would have been stripped of free will, a stagnant existence. The world must have will and life, persistence through courage is what Aizen finally concluded to himself. The former “envoy”, the empty man born too strong, was finally humbled.

Equipment

Madara

Kama

A kama is a Japanese sickle used as a weapon. Madara’s kama has a long handle and a pointed beak with a sharp cutting edge that inflicts damage. This weapon has a chain attached to the handle that appears to have been connected to his gunbai. The kama has been most commonly employed by shinobi as a throwing weapon rather than in close combat, where the entire weapon is tossed in such a manner that it rotates quickly end over end to increase the probability that the bladed edge will strike its intended target.

Gunbai

Passed down between Uchiha clansmen for generations, Madara’s gunbai is a non-folding fan, carved from a unique spirit tree from which only ritualistic instruments are made. During his lifetime, Madara was famed for the use of this fan in battle. This gunbai had the ability to convert incoming chakra into wind nature transformation, reflecting an opponent's attack back towards them. Madara wields it both as a shield and as a mace in conjunction with his kama, and it also allows him to perform various other techniques. The gunbai can also be used like a flail with the attached chain used to guide the fan and have it act like a shield because of its durability. In fact, it was able to defend against Naruto's Super Mini-Tailed Beast Ball without receiving any damage.

Aizen

Zanpakuto: Kyoka Suigetsu

Aizen’s main weapon of choice, a Zanpakuto is the user’s weapon allows to become one with their weapon to become stronger. Think of Ryuko’s Senketsu or the JoJo Stands as examples, where the weapon becomes a person and fights as one with the user. For a soul reaper, it is their duty to train and master their weapon at their maximum potential. Zanpakuto also are capable of harming souls, being able to slay hollows.

Kyoka Suigetsu, literally translates to "Mirror Flower, Water Moon". This name is actually derived from a Chinese idiom "Flower seen in the mirror, moon reflected on the water's surface." The name hints at the illusive properties of the zanpakuto itself, but there's a deeper meaning behind the name "Kyoka Suigetsu". Kyoka Suigetsu is one of the very few zanpakutos in the series with a name that does not originate from Japanese culture.

Refer to here for a full breakdown on its meaning:

The meaning behind the name 'Kyoka Suigetsu'. : bleach (reddit.com)

Let’s first go over the two main stages of Zanpakuto:

Shikai-Complete Hypnosis:

This stage is mostly the original state when a Zanpakuto activates its special ability for the user. For Aizen, the moment you see his sword or him, you are already in his control. Complete Hypnosis is Aizen’s main ability once seen; he has control of all five of the opponent's brain. It can control all of an enemy's senses and make him misidentify looks, shapes, quantity, feeling, and even smell. Kyoka Suigetsu is also noted to be able to affect “Reikaku”, the Sixth Sense for spiritual beings which lets you “see” spiritual pressure even if blind. It should be noted that Aizen explained that Kyoka Suigetsu is a Spell base illusion. The Complete Hypnosis is absolutely flawless; even if the target is aware of being under the hypnosis, they cannot resist its influence. The effects of Kyoka Suigetsu will last in the target for decades, as shown when the visoreds were under its effects one hundred years later. But, the only way of beating it is to touch the sword before the spell is turned on, deactivating the spell itself. Only Gin knew of this counter, and no one else even after his death.

As of his fusion with his Zanpakuto, Aizen can induce complete hypnosis by the opponent merely looking at him, as occurred Yhwach when he met Aizen in Muken. Kyoka Suigetsu’s Illusions were able to bypass the power nullification properties of The Almighty, as despite being aware Kyoka Suigetsu was being used, the Almighty was still tricked by it.

The hypnotic abilities of Kyōka Suigetsu make it a highly useful tool in combat, for Aizen can create simple or complex illusions to deceive his opponents. For example, by creating a decoy of himself, or other illusions to distract his opponents, Aizen can hide his own movements and attack with impunity. His opponent will remain focused on the illusion until it is too late to react. In other media such as Bleach: Blade of Fate he can create multiple copies of himself that can attack the opponent and spam a large range of Kido spells as a result of the Complete Hypnosis ability.

For the different uses of this ability refer to here:

Because the spell works when one sees the ritual, those who cannot see are consequently immune to hypnosis. When Aizen turns off the hypnosis by force of will, the image shown melts away or shatters. Kyoka Suigetsu has been shown to be able to affect minds with at least basic mind hax resistance, as it affected Yhwach who is stated to be immune to Pepe’s Empathy mind hax. (Pepe’s mind hax can affect Zanpakuto and even out do Giselle’s own control on her zombies, who have shown to keep their personalities and are not mindless). Byakuya was also able to resist Pepe’s hax, yet Kyoka Suigetsu can work on him as well.

Bankai

Bankai is the release form where the user or the weapon, sometimes both, transforms to its ultimate form. It increases the power of the user’s abilities thanks to the multiplier factor around 5-10. The stronger the user gets and improves, so shall the weapon. And like the Saiyan Super forms, the Bankai can take stages until they reach their maximum power as Tohsiro has shown.

The Multiplier for Bankai power wise is consistent, as it ties in with hollowfication which itself is comparable to the boost bankai provides. For example, Bankai Ichigo and Grimmjow are shown to be relative to each other, and then Grimmjow uses the Gran Rey Cero, which is superior to Cero Oscuras (which is a 10x boost to a normal cero), and Ichigo is blocks it with his hollow mask. Grimmjow transforms and they are equal once more. Not all Bankai increase speed, such as Soi Fon’s which slows her down with its heavy missile.

However.... Aizen has never shown his Bankai once in the series. It is somewhat likely that he does have it since nearly all captains have mastered their weapon, but the bastard never got serious enough to show it once. And we might have to wait until the upcoming Hell Arc of Bleach to finally see Aizen’s Bankai form.

Other Functions

Konso is the process by which a Shinigami sends wandering Pluses in the living world to either Soul Society if they are good in life, or Hell if their life was full of evil acts (such as murders, etc). Konsō is performed by using the pommel of the Shinigami's Zanpakutō to tap the head of the soul, thereby transporting them to the afterlife.

Senkaimon is the gate used to travel between the two worlds, and is the only official and safe way to enter and leave Soul Society. It can be opened by using a Zanpakutō as a key.

Caja Negacion

The smallest cubes for putting even the strongest beings into timeout. Caja Negacion is a device that takes whoever absorbs it into another dimension, sealing time for a limited time. The stronger the target, the shorter amount of time it takes to escape.

Reiatsu Concealing Cloak

Aizen hates Urahara so much he stole two of his most powerful weapons he has created, of which one of them is this stylish Harry Potter cloak he improved from the original. The name as it suggests function is to conceal the user’s Reiatsu, blending with the air out of sight

Konpaku Altering Device

Aizen acquired a device meant to extract foreign objects in a spiritual body, which is normally impossible unless done via altering the body’s composition or using a high intensity thermal detonation. The device was used to remove the Hogyoku that was hidden in Rukia. The device seems to manipulate matter, and the effects are undone when the object is extracted from the target.

Hōgyoku

Note: While the Hōgyoku seemingly rejected Aizen by granting his wish to be weaker, it is noted to be the reason for his immortality years later. Aizen also got passively stronger while sealed in Muken, showing the rejection did not stay in effect. Kubo also drew an end sketch depicting a butterfly (Hōgyoku imagery) when Aizen killed Yhwach’s eyeball summons. The Hōgyoku is still very much standard for Aizen.

The “breakdown sphere”. Long story short: this was the prize that Aizen desired in order to earn the title of a God. Urahara’s greatest creation he made was “supposed” to blend the powers of both hollow and shinigami. To break the boundary of both. Aizen coveted this power. Kisuke created his specialized konpaku to cram a bunch of them together, inside of the Hogyoku, to take the place of the Soul King. However, Aizen also had his own version that was incomplete, and he was hellbent on getting the other half in order to combine both and complete it. Which he did and easily discovered its true purpose: To Make Dreams Into Reality. In other words, it is like a Reality Stone where it can turn into anything the user desires. Here are the main abilities it has shown:

NOTE: Some of the other abilities that the Hōgyoku can do will be told in other sections inside Haxes and Forms, which shall be marked 🔷 to avoid confusion

  • Amplification: As shown many times, the Hōgyoku increases the user's powers much higher than before. Aizen confirmed this when he turned Hollows into Arranncars and later became one with the Hōgyoku. It multiplies his Reiatsu, power, speed, and endurance to the user’s max and expands should the user require it to go beyond it. These jumps in power can be massive, as Aizen went from being unable to sense Dangai Ichigo’s power (This implies an enormous gap Aizen calls a ”dimensional difference'') to being able to harm Ichigo. (For more info refer to the “Transcendence” section)

Aizen is being hit by Mugetsu and regenerates afterward. In the anime, Aizen completely crumbles from it. In the light novels, Mugetsu is described as "crumbling" the exposed victim. When the konpaku/soul is destroyed, it breaks down into Reishi particles. Since Mugetsu destroyed Aizen’s entire body, he regenerated from nothing but these particles. While Aizen seems to take a while to heal his wounds from Yhwach, these were inflicted by the Almighty (refer to Aizen’s AP section for details), which is shown to be able to even nullify Orihime’s healing abilities. (Reference for her healing potency). Aizen is shown later on to have fully healed.

Note: Everything in Bleach has some level of reishi, as everything has a soul. Reishi particles can be as small as Nitrogen atoms.

Refer to the Resistances section for resistances given by the Hogyoku.

Abilities

Madara

Chakra

Chakra is the physical and spiritual energy located on every cell of the body and gained through exercise and experience. It's basically a cross between chi and stamina as the two are directly linked. Though other methods exist, Hand Seals are the main way to channel Chakra through 361 different points over the body so it can be manipulated to perform a variety of acts like walking on water, ceilings or sheer cliffs, creating elemental attacks, creating illusions etc.

Chakra used for Ninjutsu should also scale to physicality most of the time, as it directly impacts physicality. Chakra and the soul also have a deep connection, providing Non-Physical Interaction and Soul Manipulation for those who manifest their Chakra, like Jinchūriki, Rinnegan users, and Susanoo users.

Six Paths Chakra

A rare and powerful type of Chakra given to Madara after sealing the Ten Tails inside himself. Six Paths Chakra greatly enhances Madara’s Chakra capabilities and all of his physical stats, and he can use it to amplify the power of his Jutsu’s.

Ninjutsu

In the Ninja World, shinobi are capable of controlling the elements and perform ninja techniques based off of them. This is known as nature transformation, which is an advanced form of Chakra control that involves molding and refining the nature of a shinobi’s Chakra, altering its properties and characteristics to be used in Ninjutsu. It’s a necessary component when it comes to creating and modifying a technique, with the other component being shape transformation. Nature transformation changes the properties of Chakra, and shape transformation changes the actual form and movement which alters its abilities. There are five basic Chakra natures that shinobi are born with: Fire, Wind, Lightning, Earth, and Water. Just like a game of Rock-Paper-Scissors or Pokemon, each chakra nature has an advantage over the other. Fire beats Wind. Wind beats Lightning. Lightning beats Earth. Earth beats Water. Water beats Fire.

Although he knows all of the 5 basic elements, Madara seems to prefer the usage of Fire Style Jutsu. If Madara’s Fire Jutsu is stronger than Wind based techniques, it can potentially cancel them out but can potentially get canceled out if the wind attack is stronger. Additionally, Fire Jutsu is weaker than, surprise surprise, Water based attacks. However, If his Fire Jutsu is stronger, it can resist being canceled out or overpowered by Water attacks. He can even mix his water and earth natured Chakra to utilize Wood Release.

There are two final nature transformations that are the source of all non-elemental techniques: Yin & Yang. Yin is based on the imagination and spiritual energy of a shinobi while Yang is based on the vitality and physical energy of a shinobi. These two together can form the Yin-Yang nature. The transformation of these two natures involves altering the balance between spiritual and physical nature in Chakra. Thanks to his superior forms, Madara can utilize both Yin and Yang natured chakra as well as combine them for Yin-Yang Release.

Fire Release

As befitting for an Uchiha, Madara’s specialty in Ninjutsu style is Fire Release. Fitting to his personality, it’s also the most offensive based Ninjutsu out of the 5 elements, typically achieved by kneading Chakra in the body into flames and breathing it out. As an expert of all Ninjutsu, Madara has mastered nearly every Fire Release technique, and has used a variety of them throughout the series.

Wood Release

After his fight with Hashirama, Madara transplanted parts of his DNA inside of him, and were later further magnified by Kabuto. With this, Madara gained the ability to use Wood Release, a mixture of water and earth natured Chakra. Madara is so skilled in using this, he can even rival Hashirama Senju in it. As such, Madara has shown numerous Wood Release techniques throughout the series.

Yin-Yang Release

With Six Paths Chakra, Madara can combine Yin Release and Yang Release together to obtain Yin-Yang Release. With this ability, Madara can nullify all Ninjutsu and gains access to a brand new ability:

Truth-Seeking Balls

Orbs of malleable Chakra with a range of 70 meters, the Truth-Seeking Balls are some of Madara’s greatest abilities. With the ability to erase matter on contact, nullify Ninjutsu, destroy things on a near-atomic level, and even erase space-time itself, should one make simple contact with these orbs, it’ll almost certainly spell the end for them. Madara can also transform these orbs into various different shapes, such as staffs or spikes.

Strategic Mind

Thanks to the Black Zetsu “twist”, (the less said about that, the better) Madara himself is often overlooked as just yet another puppet in Naruto, dancing to someone else's tune. In truth, when everything is lined up, very few of Madara’s deeds were due to direct manipulation from someone else. His feats of cunning and manipulation of his own can be genuinely attributed to himself for the vast majority of his story. Black Zetsu more so manipulated the society Madara grew up in, whispering in Indra’s ear and pitting the Uchiha and Senju against each other, ultimately rewriting the Uchiha stone tablet into saying that the Infinite Tsukuyomi would be their salvation. He set Madara on the path towards that technique, but every step on the way there was thought out by the man himself.

The only part of that plan executed by Black Zetsu was that the creation of the White Zetsu army was not done via Madara molding the tissue of the Gedo Statue and mixing it with Hashirama’s cultivated cells, it was Black Zetsu pulling the people Kaguya turned into White Zetsu via the Infinite Tsukuyomi out for Madara to mix with the dna in secret. Black Zetsu’s real role was instead to record the history of shinobi, and keep an eye on things proceeding towards the Infinite Tsukuyomi, and the best way to do that was to make Madara think he was a manifestation of his will and not Kaguyas, so he could see things up close as Madara’s subordinate.

With that depressingly long but sadly necessary disclaimer out of the way, Madara’s own intelligence can truly be highlighted. For it is impressive, no doubt about it.

Madara was a savant from a young age, quickly attaining an impressive level of battlefield strategy (likely needing to in order to survive the extensive conflicts of that era) that only grew with his experience over the years. He is known for devising several approaches off the bat in any given fight, and studying his opponent intensely during combat to the point that he doesn’t need backup tactics anymore and can predict their every move, as well as identify any weakness, whether literal or psychological. As seen especially clearly in his fight with Naruto and Sasuke, he is adept at forming and testing theories during combat. This intelligence and adaptability, combined with his immense knowledge of people and jutsu, makes him extremely hard to outmaneuver.

He’s no slouch off the battlefield either, as this analytical approach has also made him an excellent teacher, as seen with Obito, and an impressive scientist and researcher, creating that clone flower of Hashirama and a life-support system through it. This extends into biological and medical fields, as he was able to transplant eyes on the fly, take care of critical injuries, and use White Zetsu matter to replace body parts.

And of course, the entire Eye of the Moon plan and everything related to the Akatsuki is a chess game that can be attributed to Madara’s own brilliance. Zetsu merely motivated him and put him on the right path.

Senjutsu

Unlike Ninjutsu focusing on spiritual and physical power, Senjutsu focuses on natural power. In order to use Senjutsu, one must first learn to sense the natural energy in their surroundings and gather it inside their body. It must then be balanced with the user's own physical and spiritual energies, which make up their Chakra, to create Senjutsu Chakra. Senjutsu Chakra is an extremely powerful form of energy, increasing a person's physical capabilities to many times their normal limits as well as increasing their Chakra capacity. Those who can master and obtain Senjutsu obtain a state called Sage Mode, in which their physicality and sensing capabilities are dramatically enhanced for as long as the mode is active. Madara has access to Sage Mode, and with it, gains a variety of new techniques (elaborated in transformations).

Summoning Jutsu

With Summoning Jutsu, Madara is able to call upon an animal from a specific species onto the battlefield in order to fight for their side. Although, in his case, we’ve only ever seen Madara summon a few things.

Demonic Statue of the Outer Path

As the husk for the Ten Tails, the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path, or the Gedo Mazo, can only be summoned by those who possess the Rinnegan. Instead of requiring a blood offering like other summons, the Demonic Statue instead succs up the user’s life force if it’s not fueled by the Tailed Beasts. However, Madara can summon it with no such issue, likely due to his great experience with the Rinnegan. The Gedo Mazo contains enormous reserves of Chakra, so much so that Madara absorbing part of it increased his life-span by several years. Alongside it’s great physical size comes great physical prowess, capable of clashing with similarly giant sized opponents and overpowering them. The Gedo Mazo can emit purple dragons capable of extracting the Chakra of anyone it touches, effectively killing them. It can also summon Chakra Chains that can restrict the power of even the Tailed Beasts.

The Ten Tails

Believed to be the originator of all Chakra, the Ten Tails is the combined form of Kaguya and the God Tree. As such, it boasts incredible power, capable of causing massive craters, swallowing oceans, splitting apart the Earth, and lifting entire mountains. Even Kurama, one of the strongest Tailed Beasts around, has admitted his own power doesn’t hold a candle to the Juubi’s. Just by reaching its second form, it’s Chakra was compared to that of a small planet. Aside from the typical Tailed Beast Bombs, the Ten Tails can use the Tenpenchii to create natural disasters spanning an entire country, with tornadoes, storms, rising water, and more.

Clone Techniques

Shadow Clone Jutsu

One of the most iconic techniques in the Naruto series, this technique allows Madara to create clones of himself. Unlike the normal Clone Jutsu technique, these Shadow Clones are physical and can attack the opponent. Madara’s Chakra is evenly divided between himself and his clones: creating one clone will give it half of Madara's chakra, creating two clones will give each a third of Madara's chakra, and so on. Madara used this technique to fabricate his supposed death at the hands of Hashirama.

Wood Clone Technique

(Would you like these clones to use Susanoo or not?)

By using his own Chakra, Madara can alter his own cells into vegetation and create a Wood Clone. The Wood Clone can either be used as just a wooden dummy useful for Substitution Jutsu, or be freely mobile and use their own Jutsu’s. Wood Clones can travel through plants for surprise attacks as well. However, what truly makes this technique dangerous is that unlike other Clone Jutsu techniques, the doubles don’t disappear after one hit and can take plenty of punishment, making it the perfect clone technique. The Wood Clones are so similar to the original caster, that only Madara’s ocular powers have been able to see through it

Madara has shown to be able to create 5 Wood Clones by himself. However, by using nearby vegetation as a fuel, he’s capable of creating up to 25 all at once

Limbo: Border Jail

With his Rinnegan, Madara creates a shadow of himself in an alternate dimension called Limbo. While Limbo coexists in the physical world, it is nearly impossible to interact or perceive it. Thus, the shadow of Madara can attack the opponent with them being unable to do anything to retaliate, as physical attacks have no effect on the shadow. The clones can either attack for Madara, defend him like an invisible wall, or take Madara’s placement mid-attack to defend him from any dangerous blows. Additionally, the shadow’s all have the same skills and abilities as Madara. However, while one may not directly see the shadow’s, it’s possible to see or sense their presence with special abilities, and those imbued with Six Paths Chakra will be able to interact with them. Additionally, the shadow’s can only be summoned for a set amount of time, as eventually they’ll return to Madara, and take a small while to recharge before he can summon them again. However, upon gaining both Rinnegan eyes, the time limit of the shadow’s seems to have increased, lasting the entire duration of Infinite Tsukuyomi and the fight prior, and Madara can summon up to 4 shadow’s at once with it.

Juinjutsu

Juinjutsu is a dangerous technique designed to put other people under your control. By putting special seals on your victim, you essentially possess their actions and abilities. In Madara’s case, his Juinjutsu is known as the Forbidden Individual Curse Tag, a cursed seal directly placed on the target’s heart, which prevents the target from taking their own life or removing the cursed seal themselves. The only way to get rid of it is by destroying the target’s heart, which Rin learned the hard way. Using Juinjutsu and suppressing its effect on yourself is considered to require an equal amount of skill, an amount of skill the CEO of you can’t touch me certainly possesses. The only way to remove the seal is to have the applier or the receiver die, so people tend to seal the seals (I’d like to see you try to word it in a better way) away.

Genjutsu

By manipulating the enemy’s Chakra flow, Madara can directly affect the opponent's five senses. Once he’s taken control, he makes his opponent suffer multiple illusions or false images in order to trick the opponent that they’re currently suffering physical pain. Since Genjutsu affects activity throughout the forebrain structure of the brain, all mammals (at least with their own flow of Chakra) are susceptible to Genjutsu.

Taijutsu

Taijutsu, or “Body Techniques”, is the art of hand-to-hand and physical supremacy, executed by accessing the user’s physical and mental energies. Unlike the elemental Ninjutsu or the illusionary Genjutsu, Taijutsu doesn’t require Chakra, though certain techniques and blows can be enhanced to be more deadly with it. Madara is incredibly skilled in Taijutsu, being able to fight an entire army and defeat/kill a large number of them with just his physical combat.

Dojutsu

Literally meaning “Eye Techniques”, Dojutsu heavily utilizes, well, eyes. Users of Dojutsu employ their eyes for special attacks like jutsus. Dojutsu’s chakra drainage varies, but it is known that users can, in a way, exhaust their eyes, though their physical performance as a whole may be unaffected. The Sharingan, the Rinnegan, and the Byakugan are known as the main three Dojutsu, or the Three Great Dojutsu.

Sharingan

After Madara ended his friendship with Hashirama and resolved to kill him, he obtained his Sharingan. The Sharingan is the signature ability of the Uchiha, awakened after a sheer amount of mental trauma. It doesn’t just give Madara nice red flares, but a wide variety of ocular abilities he can use to his pleasure. He can now see microscopic entities in one’s own bloodstream, objects underground thanks to their Chakra, see through illusions, and predict the moves of an opponent by watching their muscle movements.

Madara is able to copy almost any Jutsu he sees, memorizing Ninjutsu, Genjutsu, and Taijutsu with near-perfect accuracy. The Sharingan also allows him to control the mind of the target it's used on, such as when Sasuke controlled Manda against his will. It can even overcome the mental destruction induced by Orochimaru’s Soul Transfer Ritual, eroding the mental universe it occurs inside of in the process.

Genjutsu: Sharingan

This refers to a wide array of abilities done by Sharingan users via its illusory abilities rather than a single technique. By establishing eye contact with a target, the Sharingan user traps them within a Genjutsu, which can be exploited for one of various purposes, such as paralyzing the target, forcefully extracting information (and sometimes killing the opponent afterwards), showing the caster’s memories to someone else, removing Genjutsu placed on the target by others, and controlling a target's actions. The illusions created by Genjutsu: Sharingan do not appear to have any trademark form, appearing vastly different between the same functions and even the same users.

Izanagi

A forbidden Jutsu created by the Uchiha, the Izanagi is one of the most terrifying abilities Madara possesses. Although Madara loses an eye in exchange for using this technique, the benefit he gains more than makes up for it. When activated, any damage, whether minor or fatal, will be rewritten as an illusion to reality, almost as if the damage never existed, and any attacks the caster causes will be kept as a part of reality. The technique makes the user practically invincible to damage, and lasts for a certain amount of time. The amount of time Izanagi is active depends on the power of the user. In Madara’s case, since he’s far stronger than Obito, who could cast Izanagi for 5 minutes straight, Madara’s time limit with the Izanagi can last up to that span of time, potentially even greater.

Madara can even invoke a time delay spell of the technique, set to automatically activate should he ever be slain. This allowed him to revive from the dead after his first death from Hashirama.

Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan

The next stage of evolution of the Sharingan, the Mangekyō Sharingan, is an advanced state of it. It's initially awakened by the trauma suffered from witnessing the death of someone close to the user, which Madara awakened after his brother's death at the hands of Tobirama. The Mangekyō Sharingan retains all of the Sharingan’s generic abilities while also gaining new powerful ones as well. It even increases the potency of the Sharingan’s Genjutsu technique, as even those resistant to a normal Sharingan’s Genjutsu are helpless against a Mangekyō Genjutsu. It’s also stated that the Mangekyō Sharingan can induce Genjutsu without the need for a Chakra flow in the target.

However, there is a drawback: using the Mangekyō Sharingan far too much will result in permanent blindness. In order to avoid that, a member of the Uchiha Clan has to transplant a Mangekyō Sharingan of a fellow Uchiha whom they have a strong bond with into their own eyes. In Madara’s case, it was his brother, Izuna. Now with the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan, Madara no longer suffers any possibilities of growing blind by using his techniques, and although using Mangekyō abilities still consumes Chakra, he can now cast them much easier.

Tsukuyomi

Note: While Madara has not shown the usage of Tsukuyomi, in order to obtain a Susanoo, one must master the abilities of both Tsukuyomi and Amaterasu. Since Madara has a Susanoo, he should logically have access to both of these abilities

One of the most powerful Genjutsu to ever exist (and signature technique of solo king Itachi), the Tsukuyomi is monstrous. By just making eye contact with a target, Madara traps the enemy in a mental domain designed how he sees fit. By altering the target’s perception of time, Madara makes the opponent suffer multiple days, even decades of torment, while only a brief moment in time passes in the real world. The lengths of this mental torture include, but are not limited to: 3 days worth of non-stop stabbing, 1 day straight of relieving traumatic experiences, 2 days worth of drowning, or even living out your entire life filled with decades of time in approximately 10^-11 seconds. Tsukuyomi was even noted by Naruto to be dangerous to even Killer B, who can overcome other Genjutsu from the Mangekyō Sharingan. Victims of the Tsukuyomi are sometimes rendered comatose, with a broken spirit. Although it requires a great amount of Chakra (hence why Itachi didn’t use it much), Madara’s far superior Chakra reserves allows this to not be that much of a problem.

Amaterasu

The antipode to Tsukuyomi, Amaterasu, is a deadly technique. With temperatures as hot as the sun (this is quite consistent) that can burn 7 days and nights straight, this attack is so hot it can burn other flames. Not even water or intense wind will be enough to extinguish these flames. This technique generally puts a good deal of strain on its users, but it can be used repeatedly nonetheless.

Time Reversal

Rewinding Technique | Naruto Fanon Wiki | Fandom

Note: Flashback cutscenes in the Ninja Storm games are confirmed to be canon, which is where this ability occurred

Should he ever be pushed to use it, Madara’s secret Mangekyō ability comes forth. By rewinding time up to seemingly a few minutes, Madara is capable of escaping dangerous situations unharmed and plan a counterattack. However, this ability can’t be used continuously, implying it requires a cool down period or a great deal of Chakra to use.

Susano’o

(It’s a giant fucking stand)

Without a doubt the strongest ability to a Mangekyō Sharingan wielder, the Susanoo is a large, tengu-like avatar made of pure Chakra that attacks for Madara on his behalf, while acting as a defensive armor. There are a few stages to the Susanoo. The most basic one is a small ribcage that surrounds Madara, giving him extra defense, and can even be used as a small hand to grab opponents. The next stage is a skeletal body, which, while it lacks skin, is still a powerful threat. It has 4 arms, with a blade on two of them, giving it great coverage. After that, the Susanoo begins to grow skin and becomes muscular, obtaining a humanoid body and surrounding the user. While most users can only materialize the upper part, Madara can materialize the entire body, towering over opponents.

Finally, the true form of the Susanoo is the Complete Body: Susanoo. With a nearly impenetrable armor and wings for greater mobility, the Complete Body: Susanoo is a terrifying threat, with the mere shockwaves of it’s sword swing cleaving entire mountains. Madara’s Susanoo in particular was also designed to resist Hashirama’s absorption abilities. Despite acting as an armor, the caster can still perform and perform Jutsu’s even while in it, as the Susano’o will allow the attacks to pass through it.

Rinnegan

By implanting Hashirama’s flesh into his own body, Madara gained access to a new pair of eyes called Rinnegan, the natural progression of the Sharingan. Although the Rinnegan has the same abilities, sometimes even better versions, of previous Sharingan techniques, the Rinnegan also grants plenty of new tools. With it, Madara can sense the Chakra flow of an opponent, invisible barriers, and master all Ninjutsu abilities. The Rinnegan is implied to be able to counter Genjutsu cast by the same eye and grant Madara the ability to perceive events in stopped time. Most importantly, Madara is able to manifest godlike powers through the usage of the Six Paths Technique. These powers are manifested through seven different paths.

Deva Path

With the Deva Path, Madara gains the ability to manipulate attractive forces and draw matter towards him. Once this technique is used, there is a time limit of at least 5 seconds before it or any other Deva Path Techniques can be utilized, although that time period can be longer depending on the amount of strength put into the attack. This time limit is shared between all Deva Path techniques.

Asura Path

With the Asura Path, Madara is able to augment his body to summon mechanical armor. These include up to four additional arms, two additional faces and a folded, serrated blade-like sash around his waist. Alongside this, Madara gains access to various mechanical weaponry.

  • Asura Attack: Madara opens up a part of his body, revealing a cannon that fires large amounts of explosive Chakra, strong enough to detonate a large area.

  • Flaming Arrow of Amazing Ability: Madara compresses large amounts of Chakra into the slit of his wrist before firing a detachable hand with incredible force.

  • Flaming Arrow Warhead: Madara detaches his hand and reveals several missiles. The further the hand is removed from the arm, the more missiles that can be fired at once. Madara can use this to cause damage over a large area or to home on a target.

Human Path

With the Human Path, by placing his hand on someone’s head or chest, Madara can read their minds for intel. After that, Madara literally yanks the soul out of the body, effectively killing the target.

Animal Path

With the Animal Path, Madara can summon various immortal large animals to fight on his behalf. Unlike other Summoning Jutsu in the series, the Animal Paths don’t require blood or blood seals.

  • Giant Drill-Beaked Bird: As it says in the title, this giant bird is surprisingly agile, and uses its great mass and speed to divebomb opponents. In the anime, it can even lay eggs that detonate.

  • Giant Multi-Headed Dog: This giant dog was amplified by Pain using the Amplification Summoning Technique, so that it can split apart, when struck, into individual dogs that can then merge back together, as well as grow stronger.

  • Giant Snake-Tailed Chameleon: A giant chameleon that can turn invisible. The snake tail can be used to grab opponents, and the user can hide in the mouth of the Chameleon for surprise attacks.

  • Giant Panda: A panda that hardens its body to shield the user.

  • Giant Ox: A giant ox with impressive ramming force.

  • Giant Rhino: A massive rhino that levels everything in its path.

  • Giant Crustacean: An extremely durable sea creature that can use Water Release to create a smokescreen or put out flames.

  • Giant Centipede: A giant centipede with enough strength to destroy entire buildings. In the anime, the Animal Path can summon 3 of these.

Preta Path

With the Preta Path, Madara gains the ability to absorb Chakra in any form. This includes Ninjutsu based techniques, no matter how strong they are. Whether it be a Rasenshuriken or Atomic Dismantling Jutsu, Madara can easily absorb it. The ability isn’t determined by power, as although Nagato’s Preta Path was far inferior to Naruto, he could still absorb his attacks. The limit of this ability is described as a “bottomless swamp”.

Naraka Path

With the Naraka Path, Madara gains the ability of interrogation and restoration by summoning the King of Hell, a large head which sprouts out of the ground surrounded by purple flames.

For interrogation, the King of Hell latches onto a person and asks them a question. Once the question is answered, it’ll unzip its mouth to release tendril-like arms that draw out the victim’s life force in the form of an enlarged tongue. After that, the King of Hell passes down judgement: Should the target be lying or refuse to answer the question, the King of Hell removes and eats their tongue, killing them. However, if the target answers honestly, they shall be spared, albeit completely drained.

For restoration, the King of Hell can heal any damage a body takes. By ingesting the body and bringing it to its mouth, the destroyed body will reemerge from its mouth, completely healed and ready to fight.

Outer Path

With the Outer Path, Madara gains the ability to revive the dead, transmit Chakra to black receivers, and manifest Chakra chains strong enough to bind even the Tailed Beasts. This allows Madara to make his own Six Paths of Pain. These six bodies are controlled through the use of black receivers, which can each utilise one aspect of the Six Paths Technique. Madara can even share their field of vision or talk directly through them.

Rinne Sharingan

As the predecessor to the Sharingan and Rinnegan, the Rinne Sharingan contains all ocular abilities of both eyes, making it the ultimate Dojutsu technique. Alongside that, Madara gains access to a brand new technique.

Infinite Tsukuyomi

The final stage to The Eye of the Moon plan, the Infinite Tsukuyomi is an extremely powerful Genjutsu only known by those who wield the Rinne Sharingan. Once Madara reflects his Rinne Sharingan off the surface of the moon, the light of the Infinite Tsukuyomi covers the entire planet, trapping every creature, including animals, under its effect. Anyone under the Infinite Tsukuyomi’s control is rendered immobile and suffer an entire dream reality, where their deepest desires are fulfilled within it. Alongside that, the target is rendered immobile, and can easily be attacked while under it or wrapped under the bark from the roots of the God Tree. However, it’s possible to resist the effects of the Infinite Tsukuyomi. Other Rinnegan users can be protected from the light of the Infinite Tsukuyomi, and those considered dead aren’t affected by it.

Madara does not inherently require the moon to be used for a localized version, as he put Obito under it before, and Obito implies it's a “super” Tsukuyomi.

Resistances

-Mind hax (He could control the Juubi's power without having his consciousness ripped apart, unlike Obito, scales to Sasuke resisting orochimaru’s deletion of his mind. Resisted his own IT, and scales to Sasuke who did as well. Sharingan and its evolutions repel visual genjutsu)

-Soul manipulation (Pulled his soul back into his body after the release of the Edo Tensei jutsu, scales to Naruto resisting his soul being ripped out)

-Power null, atomic destruction, space-time manip, potentially existence erasure (Users of Six Paths chakra are unaffected by the effects of the Truth Seeking Balls)

-Sealing (broke out of Gaara's)

-Spatial hax (survived Night Guy, was also not bent by it despite his TSO being bent)

-Matter manipulation (absorbed Onoki's particle style and can touch TSOs)

-Absorption (His Susanoo's defenses were capable of protecting Kurama from Hashirama's absorption and suppression techniques, which was noted by Madara himself. Hashirama only managed to use his suppression techniques when he stripped the Majestic Attire off) with Susano'o

-Extreme Heat (Could withstand Amaterasu and was unbothered by the heat)

-Extrasensory Perception (Limbo clones are completely invisible and cannot be sensed)

-Poison Manipulation (He can absorb Kurama's chakra, which acts like a poison, without suffering any ill effects. The chakra he absorbed was not transformed directly by Naruto in order to be compatible with him, so it should retain its harmful qualities)

-Transmutation (unaffected by the after affects of having Hashirama's cells, nor by absorbing natural chakra, despite no training to handle sage mode)

Aizen

Shinigami Physiology

Shinigami Physiology

Shinigami are “souls of the dead”, made up of reishi (spiritual matter). They possess a full internal organ system and blood. They require oxygen (as shown with kenpachi in space) and sleep and food. Shinigami can be touched by regular people made of kishi (regular matter), but cannot be seen or heard by them unless they have enough spiritual energy. Shinigami can physically interact with intangible souls (those with very low amounts of energy), which is supported by Ichigo and other Shinigami touching Blanks, which can pass right through humans.

Shinigami do not visibly age at the same rate as Humans and tend to maintain a youthful appearance for centuries. Shinigami can live for much longer than Humans, with some Shinigami, such as Retsu Unohana, being over 1,000 years old and Genryūsai Shigekuni Yamamoto being at least 2,100 years old. Aizen is noted by the Gotei 13 that he will be able to live at least 20,000 years. The Reiatsu of a Shinigami will continue to flow for as long as the heart is still beating; if the heart beats, it is impossible for the Reiatsu to cease. All Shinigami have vents at their wrists which release their Reiatsu. If they are blocked off, the Shinigami in question would be incinerated by their own Reiatsu from the inside out.

While Shinigami can be injured and killed like regular Humans, it takes considerably greater injuries to kill a Shinigami than it would to kill Humans. The more power a Shinigami has, the sharper their movements will be. Aizen himself has comparable stamina to Ichigo. Ichigo trained in the Dangai for about 3 months without rest to learn the Final Getsuga Tenshō.

It should be noted that Shinigami are still classified as “living”, as The Fear only works on the living and Rukia has to artificially induce a state of death upon herself to resist it. Furthermore, having more Spiritual energy is what makes a soul be more physical. Souls can aslo age and die from aging. Shinigami are paradoxically very akin to “living”. Shinigami also get stronger as they get closer to death.

Genius Intellect

Aizen can create 100 year long plans and can come up with even more, even in mid combat as seen in his battle with the Gotei 13. He is masterful at plans within plans, such as kidnapping Orihime, allowing him to use her abilities to extend the shelf life of the Hōgyoku and lure many of his enemies into Hueco Mundo to trap them, making it easier for him to accomplish the goal of invading the Soul King Palace.

He also has a great talent for analyzing and observing everything in his presence, allowing him to understand a person's pattern of thinking and better manipulate them, even predicting unpredictable people like Ichigo, who was stated by Akon to be unpredictable, and Grimmjow, who even when Tsukushima had prep on him he is still unpredictable (did it twice to Grimmjow). His planning skills are superior to people like Ginjo who made plans with fake memories. His deduction skills are so good that he is described as being able to “mind read” other people in novels (1 2 3), and can see through anything like how he instantly deduced the Almighty and Orihime's powers from a glance or a perfect replica of Karakura Town from the real one. He understood the thought process of Ichigo twice, and most likely up scales from people like Kisuke who figured out complex abilities like Book of the Ends with no prior viewing on what it does. His unpredictability even allowed him to catch Kisuke Urahara off guard, who can create over 1000 scenarios at once. Aizen is even capable of keeping his psyche up even though he was sealed in the Muken, which distorts your senses and mind.

Master Swordsman/Hakuda Expert

Zanjutsu (Swordsmanship) is the fighting style for the Zanpakutō and is one of the four basic fighting styles of the Shinigami alongside Hakuda, close-combat style of fighting, in which one is unarmed and uses only one's body.

Aizen implies he has reached the peak of what makes a Shinigami (even described in the databooks to excel in everything) which means he should back scale to Zanjutsu shown by  other Shinigami, including Unohana's mastery over every swordsmanship combat, Yoruichi being a master at hand to hand combat (proving it even when he is blinded most likely), Byakuya being stated to have no shortcoming in his skill, Kenpachi having skill that is beyond question of a doubt, Shunsui and Ukitake being stated to be transcendent combatants in the academy and gained more skill ever since, and Aizen thinks all the Gotei 13 and Vizards fighting together is a good idea.

Aizen himself has shown a high level of proficiency, with his skill supplemented by his immense strength. He can perform tremendously powerful and precise strikes and cut through very sturdy targets, such as Renji's Shikai and Komamura's Bankai. Aizen's skill is of such a degree that he can fight against four captains and four Visored (with three being former captains of Gotei 13) almost simultaneously and find openings to defeat them with one or two strikes each.

Aizen is a highly capable unarmed fighter. Repeatedly, Aizen has caught his opponent's weapons with a single bare hand. While fighting offensively, he exhibits tremendous agility and dexterity, combining both sword and barehanded skills to simultaneously strike with his sword and kick opponents with great force.

Shunpo

Also known as the Flash Step, it is a basic Shinigami movement technique. It allows the user to increase their speed and move short or long distances if used in quick succession.

Aizen is so fast, opponents commonly cannot discern even being attacked by him until after it has taken place. Aizen can easily outmaneuver Ichigo's Bankai and Hollow mask-enhanced speed, to the point where he could casually lay a hand on Ichigo's chest and still dodge a point-blank attack. Aizen can dodge simultaneous attacks at close-range and evade Bankai-level techniques, even when being attacked from behind.

Reishi

To give a synopsis on what Reishi is, in Bleach there are two types of matter, there is Kishi, which is physical matter (databook statement), and Reishi, which is spiritual matter (databook statement), every soul in Bleach is made up of Reishi as well. Everything in the spiritual realms is made of Reishi (1 2 3 4 5). There is also a certain amount of Reishi in the Human World. Free Reishi tends to be found in places closer to nature, and Reishi also exists in the atmosphere. Quincies attack by gathering the energy from their surroundings, the environment, and nature. Reishi is just what the spiritual nature/environment is composed of and it can be turned into energy.

While Aizen and Shinigami can't normally weaponize Reishi in this fashion, the Hōgyoku allows him to do so in his Final Fusion via the Fragor technique.

Reiatsu/Reiryoku

Both Reiatsu and Reiryoku are basically spiritual energy based on the user’s soul and their power. The difference comes when they are used by the user in controlling their energy.  Reiryoku focuses on willpower which makes them very sensitive to anything spiritual. Reiatsu on the other hand lets the user release the energy all around them to become physical. Aizen has demonstrated a powerful amount of spiritual energy over time that can affect objects, going as far as killing humans and even soul reapers just by being near them. The more powerful the spirits, the less pressure it reduces from being fatal. Both styles have been weaponized to great effect. Basically:

  • Reiryoku: A source of power aligned with the spiritual sensitivity and willpower of the user. Every spiritual being and every Human has a certain amount of Reiryoku. If this amount is higher than a certain degree, it grants the person superhuman abilities.

  • Reiatsu: The physical force/pressure that a person’s Reiryoku creates when released. A battle between Bleach characters is a battle of Reiatsu.

Ties to physiology:

Kisuke explains how one’s spiritual energy is what enables their soul to physically respond better, showing that your spiritual power correlates to your statistics. Additionally, to confirm that spiritual energy is Reiryoku (霊力), you’ll see in the raws he uses the aforementioned kanji for Reiryoku when talking about spiritual energy in the VIZ translation.

Rukia also implies an inherent correlation with one’s life force and their spiritual power.

Furthermore, if your body cannot withstand your spiritual power it is torn apart, as seen with Kenpachi’s Bankai, again we see that Ichigo’s own spiritual pressure is harming his body because it is too immense (spiritual pressure/reiatsu is the pressure exerted from spiritual power/reiryoku), and through Kenpachi we are told spiritual energy is what you use to attack.

Other applications:

Aizen’s Reiatsu can even reach hell. Yhwach's and Aizen’s spiritual pressure kept hell's door shut, which mainly only manifests in the world of the living. As this was in the past, he was either in SS or hueco mundo. Soul Society is split from earth by the dangai, which is a seperate space time.

Soul Crush

The act of dominating an opponent by "crushing" their soul with Reiatsu. Here are the “levels” of Soul Crush:

1. Intimidation/Stun: In its simplest form, Reiatsu crushing is an intimidation tactic. It can be used to instantly make those who have weaker souls fear for their lives, and lose strength in their bodies. (Important to note, spiritually unaware individuals cannot sense Reiatsu. At this level, they would at most feel weak/on the verge of passing out), such as Kenpachi crushing Ganju, Yammy passively crushing Tatsuki., Aizen Reiatsu crushing Grimmjow

2. Hallucinations: A lesser-known ability related to psychological Reiatsu crushing, the user causes the opponent to experience realistic hallucinations. Of all the forms of Reiatsu crushing, this would likely have the least effect on the spirituality unaware, such as when Kenpachi was making Ichigo experience several hallucinations in quick succession, including being impaled from behind.

3. Paralysis/Unconsciousness: When a being of high Reiatsu chooses to, they can paralyze an opponent just by flexing their Reiatsu while in their presence, such as Yamamoto making Nanao have a seizure and Kenpachi making Hanatarō unable to move from across the city

4. Lethal damage/Soul Destruction: As the name entails, at this level users can release Reiatsu with enough intensity to destroy Konpaku/Souls. At this level characters often destroy souls unintentionally or extremely casually, potentially even passively as shown with Coyote Starrk. Examples include Starrk and Lilynette passively annihilating hollows that got close to them, Yamamoto annihilating hollows from 13 miles away, Aizen killing several human konpaku, erasing parts of their bodies while suppressing his Reiatsu, Physical objects turned to ash near him. Even while bound in restraints that limit the range of his Reiatsu, Aizen erases the hands of a Muken guard, Yhwach casually tears apart two arrancar with pure Reiatsu

Note: Since A battle between Bleach characters is a battle of Reiatsu, Soul Crush is only shown affecting weaker characters than the user. If an opponent has comparable spiritual energy it will not affect them.

Reikaku/Cosmic Awareness

The Sixth Sense for spiritual beings which lets you “see” spiritual pressure even if blind. Those that have refined their mastery over reikaku are able to determine various aspects regarding the nature of one's spiritual pressure. Reikaku also allows one's perception to actually measure the intentions of the opponent, such as Ichigo discerning Aizen’s subconscious nature.

Aizen can also sense how powerful an opponent is by touching even a portion of their energy.

Aizen has shown the ability to sense events into other dimensions, such as sensing Yhwach’s energy disappearing while sealed in Muken, which is another dimensional space separate from the Soul Society. Aizen's perception skills are noted as incomparable, being able to pinpoint individuals in other dimensions.

Flight

Shinigami move in the air by solidifying the reishi under their feat. This allows them to rise hundreds of meters into the sky, or move in the air across landscapes as if they were flying.

Kido

Kidō is the application of Reiryoku to perform spells in the form of spiritual magic. Kidō has been divided into three sections of use: Hadō for attacks, Bakudō for battle support, and Kaidō for healing. Each one has a level class from 1 to 99, with 99 as the most powerful of the classes but difficult to master. Kido also has a fail-safe system for incantation by reducing the power by less than a third of its full potential. Aizen’s special likes for Kido abilities will be sectioned on their own in being a Kido master (stated here as well, Aizen also hints that transcendence allows you to learn them), but we will list the following kido spells that have been shown starting from Hado to Kaido:

Hadō:

Bakudō

Kaidō

These spells do not have known names, numbers, or incantations to cast, and simply heal the target. As the user holds his/her hands above the patient's wounds, his/her palms glow with green spiritual energy to facilitate healing. When one heals with regular healing kidō, they perform Reiatsu restoration first. By doing so, one can attempt to recover the physical body using the patient's restored Reiatsu and the healer's external Reiatsu. Therefore, restoring the Reiatsu when the physical body is in a fully healed state is no trouble at all.

Others

This section is for other unnamed spells that were shown but never called.

El Escudo

Either another Kido move or Aizen’s own ability, creates a shield on his arm that he can block.

 Escudo Milion

A passive million layered shield that Aizen has behind his neck, it's hidden until its hit, expanding then absorbs and distributes the attack around.

Hadō #90: Kurohitsugi

Translating to “Black Coffin”, this is a high level Hadō spell that encases its victims in the form of a black box of spiritual energy, causing a localized spike in gravity and using spikes to eviscerate anyone caught inside. It’s like the most hardcore iron maiden ever. This technique is at its strongest when performed with a specific incantation depending on charge time. Aizen can summon one within a second for a quick attack, or  risk exposing himself to charge up for full power at a large range. While it is questioned in its power scale of being a black hole, it does distort space and time. It also seals the target for the duration of the technique, in a torrent of gravity.

Hado 90 is stated in the raws to be able to atomize its target when at full power, which is also stated in other translations. This is reaffirmed by Hado 90 deleting debris to point no trace was left, and it making a hole in the Sekki Sekki barrier, which vaporizes reishi matter. (The walls of the Shishinrō within the Senzaikyū are also made of Sekkiseki. Constant exposure to the mineral drains their Reiryoku, reducing it to its absolute lowest level).

A fully enchanted Hado 90 is stronger than Aizen’s own physical strength, as he affirmed to Ichigo. The range for Kurohitsugi is enough to cover a vast part of the Seireitei, as to eliminate all of Yhwach’s eyeball creatures that were infesting it.

Hado #63: Raikoho

A quick spell to fire a beam of lighting at an opponent. Aizen uses this move to stop his foes in his tracks and stuns them for a few seconds

Bakudō #26: Kyokko

A technique Aizen mastered in his youth, the spell makes you invisible, making it even harder for your opponent to sense you. Aizen does this by bending light to create an optical illusion.

Bakudō #61: Rikujokoro

Shoots 6 light beams that paralyze the opponent in place. While Aizen has never used the move in the manga or anime, he has shown to use it in the games. Which one of them presents as a special move.

Bakudō #81: Dankū

A massive shield that blocks any Hado 89 or lower and repels those who get close. Aizen used it in his battle with Tsukabishi in order to block the devastating Hado 88.

Danku offers resistance to the following abilities:

-Concussive force via Hado 1.

-Lightning manipulation via Hado 4, 11, 63, 88

-Explosion manifestation via Hado 12, 78

-Fire manipulation via Hado 31, 32, 33, 73

-Levitation via Hado 57.

-Tornado creation via Hado 58.

-Repulsion via Bakudo 8.

Hadō #99: Goryūtenmetsu

The strongest Hado technique there is, absorbing a ton of Reishi around it, condensing it to transform into what the user wants. For Aizen, it was a dragon.

Upon activation, energy ruptures a large area around the user, causing the ground to rise up in pillars, before rising into the air to form five enormous, light purple dragons above the user.

In Bleach: Can't Fear Your Own World, Shūhei Hisagi states that Goryūtenmetsu is a forbidden spell because it draws upon the Reimyaku of its surroundings to empower itself. Reimyaku is energy permeating inside a planet. Each world's Reimyaku is different, with Hueco Mundo's having affected Yasutora Sado to the point of drawing out his Fullbring's true form, completely unlike that of the Human World and Soul Society. For example, the atmosphere of Hueco Mundo also serves as nourishment for smaller Hollows and acts as a replacement for devouring actual souls. As such, Hado 99 is more of a ”natural” energy attack than other kido. It was used by Urahara to Vaporize an artificial sea.

As stated in the novels:

“Hadō 99 ———— Goryūtenmetsu” At Kisuke’s words, the sky splits open. What made an appearance, is five pillars of light taking the shape of dragons and composed of Reishi. By nature, it was one among the Hadō which possessed tremendous power comparable to that of forbidden spells, creating Reishi dragons from the Spiritual Pulse of the earth, and shattering the ground around it whilst engulfing the target.”

 🔷 Immortality/Resistances

Due to his interaction and subsequent fusion with the Hōgyoku, he has gained some degree of immortality, allowing him to regenerate from the damage caused by Ichigo's Mugetsu (albeit at the cost of his new Hōgyoku powers) and live past his 20,000-year sentence.

Aizen was sentenced to death but nothing in Soul Society could kill him. From Central 46 (who have access to the execution weapon, Sokyoku Hill), Shunsui (who has a reality-warping bankai that can transfer damage even to intangible opponents, induce disease, drain energy, and kill his target), Mayuri and Kisuke's own words (who has a matter altering bankai). Mayuri knows the abilities of all bankai's and has them recorded, meaning Aizen should also be resistant or immune to these methods of killing him as well. Soul Society despises Aizen, and would not hesitate to slay him if possible.

This is all stated in alternative translations as well: 1, 2, 3, 4

Aizen's Regeneration explicitly stems from his Reiatsu (Spiritual Pressure) still being produced through his heart. If you permanently stop his heart then Aizen's Reiatsu would stop being produced, Reiatsu being a product of one's Reiryoku... their Reiryoku being their Spiritual Energy, the product of their soul. Here's the thing, destroying Aizen's heart does nothing going off of feats: Erased via Ichigo's Mugetsu. Hole punched through his heart by Yhwach. Regenerated from both.

Note: It is stated that the Sokyoku can be used to destroy not just Seireitei, but the entire Soul Society. Supported by a databook statement.

As such he has shown and would also be resistant to the following abilities:

-Soul manipulation (Survives hits from zanpakutos, upscales from characters resisting gonzui which is a soul suck that affects hundreds of souls at once)

-Mind hax (via Rose, Shinji: Rose causes physical harm, including death, via illusions created by sound and Shinji reverses senses. Rose is part of the SS, and nothing they have can kill Aizen. Aizen was affected by Shinji but adapted)

-Death hax (via Soi Fon. She states in the novels she cannot kill him, nor can the Soul Society)

-Time hax (Resisted the Cleaner's time hax).

-Spatial Manipulation (Via Kenpachi, who can cut space and the Garganta (a void). Kenpachi is amongst the shinigami that cannot kill him. Tanked hado 91, which is compared to the Gran Rey Cero, which tears apart space)

-Space time manipulation, Atomization and Gravity manipulation (Tanked his own Kurohitsugi. Tanked being hit by the cleaner, which controls and space).

-Sealing (Has broken out of several bakudo, was able to resist his own muken seals).

-All of Mayuri's drugs (A Izanami-like drug, and a drug that severs the nerves functions from the organs and kills you, poisons. Mayuri states he has nothing that can execute Aizen).

-Reality Warping (via Shunsui's Shikai and Bankai, which also induces damage transfer and diseases. Shunsui states he cannot kill Aizen.)

-Memory Manipulation (Upscaling from Orihime negging memory altering tech. Strong enough souls can negate this. Orhime and Ichigo also resisted a mass memory wipe that was done when Rukia was taken by SS )

-Power Null (Negated the zanpakuto weakening properties of the muken seals, his hado 90 broke the sekki sekki barrier which negates spiritual power, Kyoka Suigetsu worked on the Almighty despite its power null aspect. Adult Toshiro’s freezing power null might also not work, given Aizen is still alive in the final chapter despite the SS wanting to kill him if possible)

-Extreme Heat (Can survive Yamamoto’s 15 million-degree c bankai. Aizen was sentenced to death but nothing in SS could kill him, to argue it wouldn't include Zanka no Tachi would be to argue Yama wanted to spare Aizen, which is out of character for him. Using his bankai in muken also would not risk the destruction of the SS, since it is a closed-off space)

-Energy Drain (Shunsui can't kill him, which includes the energy drain from his bankai. Mayuri states his heart produces energy without ceasing, the Soul Society has special prisons that drain of all your spirit energy, doesn’t work on Aizen, Aizen is noted to have the among largest reverse of energy of anyone, to the point that is the sole reason he was considered a threat by Yhwach)

-Corrosion and Toxins (Adapted to Gin’s cell destroying poison. Immune to the poison from Mayuri’s bankai)

-Limited Matter Manipulation (via Urahara’s bankai. Urahara states it would be impossible to kill Aizen, which would include his own bankai)

-Adaptation (via Mayuri's altered Bankai. Again Mayuri cannot Aizen with anything he has)

-Transmutation (Hogyoku should be able to resist its own abilities via adaptation. This includes its ability to transmute the forms of hollows. This function is what saved the visoreds from full hollowfication)

-Disease manipulation (via Shunsui's Bankai, which gives an incurable disease)

Note: While it is possible Aizen could merely Power Null some of these abilities via his reiatsu, at the time of these statements regarding his immortality he had seals restricting his reiatsu to his body. These seals in combination with the specially designed chair further restricting his power caused Aizen to be vulnerable to the Underbelly, a quincy ability that pinpointed holes in his reiatsu and paralyzed him, despite his far larger energy reserves. Aizen later tells Shunsui it was at this time an attempt should have been made to kill, to which Shunsui states Aizen is still unkillable. This proves that Soul Society had the means of negating Aizen’s power null abilities, but not the means to truly kill him, despite the overabundance of killing abilities and hax they possess.

The innate resistances being reiatsu power null is also harmed by the fact everyone was surprised (Including Kisuke Urahara) by how powerful Aizen was 2 years after his original sentence. Central 46 makes it clear Aizen could not be killed, as does Kisuke, right after the Hogyoku depowered Aizen 2 years prior, when he was weak enough he had reverted to a base state (Yamamoto is stated to have been stronger than that base Aizen). This means the resistances have less to do with his general power level, but more to do with his Hogyoku gifted Immortality.

Soi Fon also reaffirms after the war they still lack the ability to kill Aizen, which is proven by the necessity of keeping him imprisoned in Muken 10 years later in Chapter 686.

Mayuri also states in GENERAL prisoners of muken are there because they can't be killed by anything in Soul Society. The resistances are from the Hogyoku, proven by the fact Soul King fragments grant resistance to abilities you normally cannot resist. (Refer to Adaptation in the Hogyoku section for more details)

🔷Transcendence

‘Transcendence'' is the process of transcending hollows and shinigami. A being who reaches this level will reach the final level of zanpakuto evolution and have their zanpakuto begin to merge with them. By the time of the Quincy war, Kyoka Suigetsu had fully merged with Aizen, allowing its abilities to be used without need for a release command. The other benefit is a massive increase in power and improvement in ability, with another ‘transcendent'' state called mugetsu being described as the “ultimate technique'' in power prior to the Quincy War.

After Aizen fuses with the Hōgyoku, both Shinigami and Humans are incapable of sensing his Reiatsu unless he voluntarily lowers it and allows them to interfere. He compares this to how a two-dimensional being is incapable of interfering with a three-dimensional one. Isshin surmises Aizen's Reiryoku can only be sensed by someone who is at the same level as him.

The boost you receive is superior to that of hollowfication (supported by characters being able sense reiatsu from Resurreccións and Hollowfication, yet not being able to sense Aizen), which itself is comparable to the boost bankai provides (5-10x). The difference should be closer to a full 10 times, if not more. Aizen shows this to be true when he goes from not being able to sense Dangai Ichigo’s power (who was also Transcendent) and being casually no-diffed by Ichigo, to being able to harm Ichigo after a Hogyoku Evolution.

Forms

Madara

Sage Mode

After absorbing Hashirama’s Senjutsu Chakra, Madara gained access to Sage Mode. Aside from increasing his already insane strength and speed to greater levels, Madara gains the ability to sense Chakra and can manipulate Senjutsu, or natural energy. Due to his Senjutsu Chakra essentially being Hashirama’s, he should be capable of performing all of Hashirama’s Senjutsu techniques.

Ten Tails Jinchūriki

By sealing the Ten Tails inside himself, Madara becomes the beast's host, or Jinchūriki. Now with the power of the Ten Tails under his control, Madara becomes far more powerful, capable of fighting on par with Naruto and Sasuke, even when the two had gained Six Paths Chakra. Madara also receives a healing factor potent enough to regenerate half of his torso being obliterated (Obito with this form also healed from losing half his body), the ability to nullify any Ninjutsu that comes into contact with him, and Truth-Seeking Balls. He also gains Six Paths Chakra, and can amplify his Ninjutsu and Senjutsu with it to create even more powerful attacks.

Aizen

First Fusion

Aizen embeds the Hōgyoku into the center of his chest. It expands over him overtime, giving him new abilities and more power.

  • Strength and Durability Augmentation: Due to the Hōgyoku evolving Aizen’s body it augments his strength and durability to much higher levels then it was previously being able to strive through flesh and withstand spells such as Hadō #91. Senju Kōten Taihō without suffering any damage.

  • Protective Regeneration: As shown earlier,The Hōgyoku protects whoever is bonded to it through Protective Regeneration. What Protective Regeneration does is that it allows the host to instantly heal almost any injury that is sustained. This is shown when Aizen survives this 96th level Kido spell with very little injury before being healed up.

Refer to the Hōgyoku section for info on regeneration potency.

Second Fusion

This second form is basically the "chrysalis" stage, obtained after Kisuke Urahara attempts to block the Reiatsu vents in Aizen's wrists with a seal and when Aizen's Zanpakutō becomes fused to his arm. This form is stronger than his first form and enhances his already insane physicality to even greater heights.

Third Fusion

After completing his "chrysalis" stage, Aizen sheds his sleek phantom-like form to reveal his appearance similar to his original one, with the addition of long hair and gray eyes with purple sclera.

  • Will of Hōgyoku: Shown in this state, Aizen summons three orbs around him to repel attackers and drain their lifeforce. He can also release them to lock on to a target and make them absorb the orbs, slowly killing them

  • Enhanced Spiritual Power: While in this state, Aizen's already enormous Reiryoku is further enhanced. It’s so immense that humans that come into contact with it instantly die and it instantly disintegrates Soul Reapers that don’t have strong enough Reiryoku to disintegrate. It should be noted that the more powerful the spirits, the less chance that Aizen’s Reiryoku will end up being fatal

Fourth Fusion

This form was obtained during Aizen’s fight against Gin after receiving a fatal blow from Gin's Kamishini no Yari technique. This form’s transformation causes a mass amount of Reiryoku to erupt from Aizen's chest, making Aizen even more powerful. He gains wings that can change shape and increases his strength, speed and durability, as well as gaining the ability of teleportation, which allows him to dematerialize himself in one place and re-materialize himself at any distance he chooses. This process involves breaking down his body into multiple purple shards and then reassembling himself from those purple shards.

Final Fusion

Reacting in accordance to Aizen's anger due to Ichigo actually managing to hit him, the Hōgyoku forced another transformation upon Aizen. Aizen states that the Hōgyoku transforms him due to it not wanting him to lose to a Human but that could simply be conjecture on Aizen’s part. Aizen is stated to transcend both shinigami and hollow fully in this state, to the point of being classified a “god”.

Pseudo Soul King

Note: Scaling from Brave Souls itself is not being included, as it does not line with official canon.

The hypothetical complete fusion Aizen stated he was attaining after being hit by Mugetsu. The form is exclusive to the non-canon game Brave Souls, but was designed by Kubo as a hypothetical state for Aizen. This is the form Aizen wanted to acquire as an envoy, his new state as God.

The inclusion isn't too far fetched as the novels tell us about the Hogyoku:

Kisuke created his specialized konpaku to cram a bunch of them together, inside of the Hogyoku, to take the place of the Soul King.

According to Hisagi, when recalling what Tokinada said to him earlier, Urahara developed the Hogyoku to either create a Konpaku that's as powerful as Reio’s, or created it so that he could make any Soul Reaper have the same power as Reio and use their powers to support the world’s foundation, all so the Soul King would not need to be sacrificed to support it.

Another passage from the novels, with Hisagi recalling a conversion between Urahara and Aura, mentioned that Ichigo being given a Hogyoku would affect the world and that Hikone would be turned into the Soul King using the Hogyoku as well.

Given Aizen’s literal function as a character is to replace the Soul King, having been born as a “Envoy” to do so, the addition of the form is perfectly in line with lore.

Power

Speed

Note: There are a number of supposedly light-based abilities in Bleach that don't meet the necessary qualifications to be considered light-speed, see verdicts for more details.

Durability

Weaknesses

Madara

Get bodied bro lmao

Despite being one of the most powerful Shinobi in the entire world, Madara isn’t unstoppable by any means. Despite his enormous reserves of Chakra, they’re still finite, and using too much Chakra or techniques can drastically lower his reserves and weaken him. While his Jinchūriki form renders him immune to Ninjutsu, Senjutsu and Taijutsu attacks can still harm him. But above it all, like most Shonen big bads, Madara’s hubris is his biggest weakness. Madara’s blatant arrogance let his massive power go to his head and made him too cocky. This was most evident in his second violent encounter with Hashirama, where he believed that Kurama alone would be enough to close the gap between him and Hashirama. Simply put, it wasn’t.

Also he can’t pee if someone stands behind him

Aizen

While his Zanpakutō's hypnosis ability is powerful, Gin shows it can be deactivated by touching the blade before the ability is released (this no longer applies after fusing with Kyoka Suigetsu). Experienced enough opponents may notice something off while under the effects of the Hypnosis, such as Unohana, though still be under its effects. While Kyoka Suigetsu can trick sensing abilities, Yamamoto was confident he could sense Aizen at close range through his Reiatsu. Kyoka Suigetsu does not work on the blind, as it requires eyesight for its initial activation. Lastly, the novels imply the effectiveness of Kyoka Suigetsu is impaired if the opponent has significantly higher reiatsu.

The power he obtained from his evolutions made him far too overconfident, so much so that he was willing to take attacks he normally would have planned around. This overconfidence prevented him from understanding Ichigo was stronger than him and triggered a mental breakdown in Aizen. This even exists years later, shown when Aizen dropped his guard against Yhwach by turning off Kyoka Suigetsu, believing him to have been slain.

With his dreams coming true of finally becoming a God and the lives he has taken to get there, Aizen subconsciously wished to lose the entire time. That was why the Hōgyoku rejected him right before he achieved victory, due to his inner emptiness. As Ichigo best summarized, it was why he lost at the end, because the Hōgyoku discovered the true feeling of his sadness and his second thoughts of his new powers. And so, Aizen’s wish was granted and the Hōgyoku remained in his body deactivated, rejecting its master. (Since then, it is implied this rejection has ceased to some degree)

Summary

Madara Uchiha

“Man seeks peace, yet at the same time yearning for war…Those are the two realms belonging solely to man. Thinking of peace whilst spilling blood is something that only humans could do. They’re two sides of the same coin…to protect something…another must be sacrificed.”

Advantages:

  • Faster, which is strengthened by the Sharingan’s precognition

  • Has a massive numbers advantage with summons, wood clones, and limbo clones, the latter of which Aizen can’t directly see, only sense

  • Susano’o grants him a size advantage and acts as an extra defense

  • Regeneration, while overall inferior, is still useful to heal from any potential fatal blows Aizen lands

  • Can possibly absorb most of Aizen’s attacks with the Preta Path

  • Aizen has not shown resistance to mind hax on the level of Rinnegan Genjutsu, Tsukuyomi, or Infinite Tsukuyomi

  • While the Human Path wouldn’t hurt Aizen, due to his nature as a Shinigami, Madara just needs to touch him to read his mind with it

  • Time reversal allows him to get out of dangerous situations

  • Aizen has no direct answer to Izanagi, giving Madara at least 15 minutes of immortality

  • The copypasta

Disadvantages:

  • Slightly weaker

  • Inferior weaponry compared to the Zanpakuto

  • Most of all of his strongest techniques requires a lot of chakra

  • Not as intelligent

  • Less experienced

  • Inferior regeneration

  • Aizen can adapt to some of his hax with Hōgyoku

  • Due to not having teleportation, is less maneuverable

  • Likely inferior range

  • Some of Madara’s Genjutsu techniques are likely ineffective

  • Got cucked by black goo

Sōsuke Aizen

“No one stands on the top of the world. Not you, not me, not even gods. But the unbearable vacancy of the throne in the sky is over. From now on... I will be sitting on it.”

Advantages:

  • Slightly stronger

  • Zanpakuto is superior to any of Madara’s weaponry

  • Better tactician and all around smarter

  • More experienced

  • Superior regeneration

  • The Hōgyoku allows him to adapt to some of Madara’s hax

  • Resists the Human Path technique, due to his nature as a Shinigami

  • Teleportation grants him superior maneuverability in the fight

  • Likely has greater range

  • Counters some Genjutsu techniques, either via resistance or the Hōgyoku

  • Stopped Ichigo’s theme

  • Kicked Madara’s ass in rap

Disadvantages:

  • Slower

  • Heavily outnumbered

  • Madara’s own regeneration makes it difficult for Aizen to land a killing blow

  • Most of his attacks can possibly be absorbed by Madara

  • Susceptible to Rinnegan Genjutsu, Tsukuyomi, and Infinite Tsukuyomi

  • Is susceptible to the Human Path’s mind-reading

  • Time reversal allows Madara to escape any dangerous situations Aizen puts him in

  • Has no answer for Izanagi

  • Got cucked by black goo

Before We Get to Verdicts

Cosmic Bleach

Due to the ambiguity of Kubo’s writing, there has been talk recently of the world related feats in bleach being cosmic in nature. Is cosmic Bleach legitimate? Maybe? It’s not the most objective take possible, as evidence exists for both a planetary and cosmic view on the size of Bleach’s realms, as we will analyze here:

The immediate evidence for the realms being cosmic in size comes from the manga.

While these are indeed official viz translations, “universe” is translated from “Sekai”. Sekai translates to the world; society; the universe, any of these 3 based on context. Let's check these statements:

  • Here Urahara says: 尸魂界は魂魄の世界…

    • This translates to “Soul Society is the sekai of souls…” and is from chapter 70 when Urahara is explaining the Reishi converter prior to sending the gang to save Rukia.

  • Here Urahara says: この世界の崩壊を防ぐために。

    • This translates to “to defend against the collapse of this sekai” and is from chapter 45 when Urahara is explaining why the Shinigami slaughtered the Quincy, with “this sekai” referring to their current setting of the story, World of the Living.

  • Here Askin says: 世界を3つも潰してその後に何かを創るうとしてる

  • This translates to “Crushing 3 sekai and afterwards constructing something else” where the 3 sekai in question are World of the Living, Soul Society, and Hueco Mundo

  • Rukia’s two statements also use sekai.

Other translations prove this to be true as well.

There is also a novel statement that uses sekai as well.

Tokinada claims if Ichigo lost the boundaries would’ve disappeared and the universe returned to chaos.

Alternatively: "That's rude, but it's true that I'm purely grateful to Ichigo Kurosaki. If he had not defeated Yhwach, the boundaries between the three worlds would have disappeared and we would have returned to a world where the soul mass did not circulate.”

Contextually, Sekai more so means world in our view due to things such as Yamamoto’s bankai being contextually referring to a planet, given it affects moisture in the atmosphere, and Soul King’s death visibly only affecting land masses alongside a description of causing a powerful earthquake on Earth. There are other examples as well, listed in the links below.

The other evidence mainly for universal bleach is this novel quote:

“If the world of the living and the Soul Society could be likened to planets and the pipeline that con"If the WotL and SS could be likened to planets and the pipeline that connected them were Dangai, the void of space that surrounded those was called Garganta."

Some would argue that because it is said "if" the WotL and SS could be "likened" to planets, means they are not actually planets.

That is a faulty interpretation. This statement is used to give an easy to understand explanation of what Garganta is. The structure here is being compared to real life planets and space because they are easier to visualize and understand. WotL and SS are being compared to two real life planets which can be seen together, and Garganta is being compared to the space between them. Because it's much easier to imagine two planets, say Mercury and Venus, and the space between them, and then compare it with Earth, SS planet, and Garganta, which are not in view together due to being dimensionally separate, and are therefore difficult to visualize and understand. This statement would hold true if they are only planets as well.

This notion is supported by the first film. Even concurrently, the validity of a higher than planet view is contentious, as shown here. While it is entirely possible that due to the vague nature of Kubo’s writing, we want to try and be objective as possible and feel that because the canon material has depicted the realms visually as planets, that is the safest option to go with.

Verdicts

CSK

(watch Arcane pls it literally is as good as people are saying, do it for the disaster lesbians)

It’s good to be back! I feel privileged to not only have gotten to work on the mid-season blog for my favorite matchup of all time, but to return for another absolute god-tier matchup I’m truly passionate about within just a few months. And boy oh boy am I lucky I care so much about these fictional characters in particular, bc holy shit is it masochistic of me to gas up matchups that are this goddamn complex. Granted, I haven’t been busting my ass nearly as hard as Phantom and Cyber’s invaluable work on the actual debate and calcs of this matchup blog, more so been their moral support (so go read their verdicts and send them nice comments, they deserve it!!!!!!!). Though I will admit that in itself has been a great experience, as being three people with unique perspectives on characters, narratives, and events allowed us to have really cool discussions that I feel like I at least learned from.

With that being said, I will be focusing on a few different things to their verdicts so as to let their work stand out stronger, especially also since quite a few of us are doing verdicts and going quite in depth with them. Better to highlight as many unique aspects as possible to truly do the matchup justice than to repeat too much, I’d think.

What I want to talk about first is something that, despite being memed a fair bit (especially on Aizen’s end), seems somewhat overlooked in this debate. Their minds.

All according to keikaku indeed, that meme exists for a reason. As stated in the intellect section for Aizen, he’s a master manipulator and strategist, making plans within plans whether on the fly or as grandiose schemes unfolding over entire lifetimes. It’s hard to oversell just how 5head this guy is, his infamousness is entirely deserved.

But despite what the summary says, I don’t believe there’s a significant difference between these two in this area. Due to the infamous Kaguya and Black Zetsu twist, people took the ending of Naruto Shippuden as a blanket confirmation that Madara had been a complete puppet the entire time and never devised anything himself, when that could not be more wrong. It only takes a little bit of research and re-reading to see how everything really unfolded. BZ (almost wanna call him BS instead) did all of his direct manipulating prior to Madara’s lifetime, setting up a society of strife with so much conflict and loss that it would with great certainty drive someone desperate enough to search for secrets that could end their suffering, which would make them read the Uchiha Stone Tablet that BZ edited, and thus begin researching the Infinite Tsukuyomi. From that point onward until Kaguya’s revival, all Black Zetsu did was record history, and do as Madara told him. Every single step in between was all Madara’s own genius. Grooming and manipulating Obito, setting up the Akatsuki, doing all of his biological research, orchestrating every single event of the Fourth Great Ninja War, and even more. So all in all they’re at least within reach of each other if not completely comparable.

Perhaps a better way to look at it would be their downfalls, how people finally found flaws within their plans. Madara, despite manipulating a large part of the world to perfection, never questioned that Black Zetsu was a manifestation of his own will, and thus allowed his own greatest spy to spy on himself as well.

Compare that to how Aizen’s hubris only widened the divide between himself and the people around him, preventing him from connecting to people like Ichigo, and in the end allowed his own subconscious to wish for companionship and trigger the Hogyoku to weaken him.

The most reasonable way to add this up seems to be that Aizen is indeed the greater mind, but the gap is not even close to as massive as people constantly say. However, Aizen is also the more arrogant mind of the two, being felled by his own overconfidence rather than a direct tactical oversight. Setting this straight is part of why I wanted to discuss this matchup.

Before I go over the rest of the debate, you’re getting a character study first because this matchup deserves that for a myriad of reasons. I really hope you’ll read this link before anything else, it should set everything in perspective.

Who do I think wins

Like stated at the begin of the verdict, I don’t intend to go into true detail with much here. Most of the verdicts in this blog are planned ahead to focus on specific aspects, so should something I write here seem glossed over or shallow as an argument, I encourage reading Phantom and Cyber’s verdicts specifically for more details. There is a shitton of stuff to go over here, but I’ll try to keep this part as brief as possible.

A lot of smaller advantages were argued one way or the other pretty early on in the blog discussion, so I’ll try to present those first, before the two beeeg guns, AP and mind hax.

It should be a very cold take to put Madara as faster than Aizen. Characters he significantly upscales from, like Ay the Raikage, have lightspeed statements, and he kept up with Six Paths Naruto and Sasuke at once, even though Naruto dodged Madara’s own Light Fang so point blank it gets over 2x lightspeed at worst, and over 3x lightspeed without too much trouble. It’s not aim-dodging by any stretch of the imagination, and Madara naturally kept up with him by all the rules of vs. Meanwhile the absolute best I’ve seen for Aizen that makes any sense is the novel statement that he could beat Hikone, as his instance of causing time dilation seems a-ok as a speed feat even if it’s from a less central piece of media than Madara’s stuff. This comparison makes Madara more than four times faster.

Jutsu and Kido in general are about even in usefulness here. Bakudo like Danku resist much of what standard jutsu can do, and Madara has techniques in place to deal with stuff like sealing. Most elemental moves aren’t going to be huge deal breakers for Madara or Aizen either, especially considering stuff like Hado 99 absorbing natural spirit energy as well as Reiatsu letting Aizen power through a lot of abilities, and on the other end the Preta Path and Madara’s natural resistances listed earlier in the blog should take care of the majority of Aizen’s regular options regardless of how you interpret the verse equalization of Chakra and Reishi, Reiryoku, and Reiatsu. This is due to the fact that the Preta Path is shown not being dependent on AP and dura to work, and despite natural energy generally being considered one of a Juubi Jinchuuriki’s achilles heels, Madara is so skilled with the technique that he could take away Hashirama’s senjutsu chakra without being familiar with it at all. It’s a bit of a blanket statement for me to just go with that, but it genuinely does simplify the matchup a great deal to just gloss over these parts of their arsenals for those reasons for now. All you need to know is that the deciding factors of the matchup are not found there, and if you want more details, then like I said, peep the other verdicts after mine.

Similarly Aizen should resist most if not all of what the Truth Seeking Balls can do, and Madara does the same to Hado 90 Kurohitsugi. Though the gravitational force is an exception, it could reasonably affect Madara considering how it’s used in Bleach and stuff like Kaguya’s gravity dimension’s effect on the main cast.

So at least it should be able to keep Madara stationary for a bit, and since Aizen has resisted his own casts of it, he could take advantage of that, right? Ehhhh…. I doubt it. Like I’ve already fleshed out, and likely will continue to repeat during this verdict, Madara is at worst slightly less of a strategist than Aizen, and at best his genuine equal. Combine that with his speed, accelerated perception, and multiple other “no u” techniques (more on those in a bit)that can get him out of such a situation, and it would be really unlikely for Madara to be caught with his pants down like that.

The other stand out aspect of their arsenals is Madara’s clones, which is significantly more relevant for the matchup. Once again I want to start by clearing up misconceptions. (and the reason that I don’t add links for these parts is because all the context you need is in this blog already)

Treating all of the clone techniques in Naruto as only spawning significantly weaker than the original is silly.

Wood Clones and Limbo Clones are as far removed from Shadow Clones and the like as those are from the original clone techniques, plus Shadow Clones are specifically designed for intelligence, relaying information, and such, not combat. It’s made very clear that most clone techniques, definitively so for the two types Madara primarily used, are not created with some arbitrary percentage of the original’s chakra, but at a power level the user wishes up to their own. Such as when Madara remarked that the Wood Clones he saw Hashirama make weren’t worth fighting because the original was hogging too much chakra to himself to sustain a barrier. And as seen in situations like against the Five Kage, they should be able to use all the same abilities as Madara himself. This is especially significant, because at one point Madara states that only his own ocular powers are strong enough to tell any difference between wood clones. Ironically enough this is likely downplay, as the very way he lost to Hashirama at the Valley of the End was getting backstabbed after being tricked by a Wood Clone.

This leaves Aizen fighting at least 25 Madaras that should be of equal power, intelligence, and versatility.

Then we add Limbo on top. Multiple sources show that they, at least as much as the wood clones, should be Madara’s equals. They’re described as his identical shadows, can be interpreted as being connected to him due to stuff like what happened to them as Kaguya awakened, are shown using Susanoo in the canon Storm games, and have databook statements saying that they possess all the same skills and abilities as Madara himself. Not to mention them existing in an entirely separate dimension that required not just senjutsu chakra, but Six Paths Chakra to touch as well as eyes of a Rinnegan level or higher to perceive. It is likely that Aizen can sense them the same way that Six Paths Naruto did, but he shouldn’t be able to see them or touch them. It is possible that his Reiatsu may reach them though.

Now for some of the main stars of the debate. These two have all kinds of weird estimates for where their AP lands, so naturally that’s a major debate for many. Off the bat: Neither of them are universal. Universal Naruto is just a messy ball of conjecture with nothing really to it, and while it’s at least understandable where Universal Bleach originally came from, it’s still something that requires wayyyy too many leaps and assumptions to make sense to me. Considering implications like the Soul Flow’s effect on the realms as well, the safest place to put Aizen is baseline planet, since you can’t prove his Yhwach scaling nets him the sustaining of anything more than one planet sized realm.

Star Naruto is almost as funky as universal, but it at least has some sort of concrete foundation. Trouble is no one really scales to it.

Large Planet Naruto is a bigger headache. There’s plenty of genuine evidence in favor of it, and also a fair bit of physics and various angles to approach it from that work against it. I see no need to challenge my own sanity with a less safe option that in my eyes does not change the outcome, so I will not be using that either. I suppose if you want to smooth things over and oversimplify then it can be a counter argument to scaling Aizen to all three realms, but I digress.

I’m not one hundred percent convinced yet that Toneri can’t be scaled to wanting to destroy the planet as a whole, but it’s super contentious, so the 18.22 zettaton feat is the safest way to go for now, if I am to grant both characters similar leeway. That would make Aizen just a bit above 3 times stronger just with base numbers. This is obviously not the full story, as they both upscale. Madara’s chain does have a few extra links though, but then again there’s the Hogyoku’s theoretical extra boosts, so at least on that front it can seem like they just endlessly one up each other. That, plus the number of unknown variables means it’s relatively safe to just say both massively upscale from these feats, and thus remain at the 4x power difference (which can be reduced to less than 2x depending on how you calc it).

With that in mind, Aizen’s Reiatsu reaching the gates of Hell from a different realm isn’t really such a surefire Limbo counter even if you play it up. They’d possibly take damage from it, but between regen and Madara’s other “fuck u” techniques, it’s not a solid argument against their effectiveness as a whole.

Next point on the agenda: Mind hax. Hoo boy. I’m of the mind (ba dum tss) that excluding layers of resistance and all that jazz, Kyoka Suigetsu and Living Corpse Reincarnation, Orochimaru’s fancy body snatching technique are completely comparable. A visual spell not reliant on a chakra flow, that instead directly creates a universe of illusions directly from the target’s senses, before dominating their soul and erasing their mind within said mental plane, after which it is replaced with Orochi’s own. You might hesitate at the three year limit on the technique, but not only is the longevity of an illusion not necessarily comparable to its strength without further context, said limit is consistently not a fault of the jutsu, but instead the fact that no human body can hold Orochi for long without breaking down. So it seems pretty damn solid to me.

Now, there is the matter of Kyoka Suigetsu working on Byakuya, which can be turned into layers of resistance since Byakuya didn’t have too much trouble with Pepe’s love hax, which worked on Giselle’s controlled zombies. I don’t particularly mind that train of thought, but then there’s the fact that Sasuke’s base (I almost wrote shenanigan instead of sharingan) reflected Orochi’s jutsu with seemingly little effort and absorbed him instead. If you’ve read the blog, you’ll have seen how the Sharingan, EMS, Rinnegan, and arguably even the Rinnesharingan can be layered in a similar fashion, so even with layers, Madara should still be able to at the very least cast off Kyoka Suigetsu.

I don’t think he’s gonna have any luck reflecting it though as the fact that it is a living zanpakuto spirit and even fuses with Aizen in his strongest forms makes it weird whether or not it’d work on himself, despite Aizen not having significant mind hax resistance himself.

And that’s why the other way around is significantly easier to hash out. The reason why jinchuuriki do well with Sharingan genjutsu is that they have a partner that can agitate their chakra within them to wake them up that way, which lines up with how Senbonzakura and Hollow Ichigo woke up Byakuya and Ichigo from an illusion in a filler arc that was overseen by Kubo himself. However, Obito’s Mangekyo Sharingan could control a Perfect Jinchuuriki regardless, Madara’s own upscales, and then you add on at least one more layer to get to Rinnegan Genjutsu, which then should work. Besides, Aizen has never shown a bond with Kyoka Suigetsu comparable to these two examples, so giving him that level of resistance is a stretch in itself. And beyond that, Aizen has never shown a resistance to illusions that work like Genjutsu or Tsukuyomi do. The statements related to whether or not Genjutsu requires a chakra network are very ambivalent. I personally lean that they don’t, but that aspect should not have any effect on Tsukuyomi’s effectiveness or IT for that matter.

And that’s ultimately what’s gonna give Madara the win.

If he lands either technique, it’s checkmate.

Remember what I’ve tried to beat into your skulls and likely will continue to, Madara is at worst relative to Aizen in battle strategy. He’s not just gonna fall for whatever. While Aizen still holds the advantage on that front, it’s a small one, despite how discussions about subjects like this tend to exaggerate the difference more and more every time it’s passed on.

And while Aizen being a Shinigami means that the Preta Path can’t rip out his soul and kill him that way, he should still be completely susceptible to its mind reading, which is fast and extensive. So just with a touch, which Madara should be able to get pretty early in the fight given all the smaller advantages I’ve gone over and the ones I will list in a bit, Madara gets all the information he needs to carry out the right plans to win.

So 30 Madaras in total, all approximately 4 to <2 times weaker, 4 of which Aizen can’t even see or reasonably touch, who all possess the same skills and abilities, and are indistinguishable from each other by Aizen, all hunt down Aizen at a given moment, since creating more Wood Clones is easy for Madara should he lose any, and after gaining both Rinnegan, the cooldown on the Limbos is extremely short to potentially non-existent, as the entirety of the Infinite Tsukuyomi and subsequent fight required no cooldown at all. This could even logically serve as a multiplier to allow Madara an actual AP advantage at first, but by no means one that would be a wincon in itself, especially with hypothetical future evolutions during the fight via Hogyoku.

But more importantly, they help Madara remain unpredictable, as a rushdown strategy from them would both be effective and in-character.

Comparable intelligence, an AP disadvantage that isn’t large enough for Soul Crush to be truly effective, a significant speed advantage, Limbos, the clones being indistinguishable by Aizen, all of them being able to absorb the majority of Aizen’s attacks and thus also replenishing Madara and keeping him in the game even longer (even beyond scaling to stuff like Hagoromo fighting for months (gonna link this one anyway bc I don’t remember if it’s in the blog)), none of the Madaras being susceptible to KS, these are all reasons that all together make it more likely than not that Madara can keep in the game long enough to get off his stronger illusions.

Now you may have heard a funny little story about Tsukuyomi not working on the dead, as the Edo Hokage managed to resist it and escape the god tree.

That does seem right, but that doesn’t mean that Aizen resists it. As Bleach went along and the nature of a Shinigami was elaborated on by Kubo, the picture painted is significantly closer to a living being. (This especially you can find elaborated in Cyber’s verdict) Thus it’s not a very strong counter argument either. And the nature of Tsukuyomi’s mental world, as well as the implication that genjutsu like it can be inflicted via light instead of a direct chakra flow, like statements from when the Infinite Tsukuyomi was reflected off the moon (which was purely done to increase range, btw), all mean that it should bypass all the caveats mentioned for Aizen.

Among advanced genjutsu that produce special illusory worlds with their own rules, you may wonder why we all spend so much time on Tsukuyomi and its variations and basically don’t talk about Izanami.

By the end of the franchise, Aizen’s epiphany left him with a far clearer sense of himself as a person, so it’s likely that Izanami would not work on him. But following a similar train of thought, the Hogyoku is based on granting desires and wishes. The Infinite Tsukuyomi is a dream world of peace where all your greatest wishes and desires are already granted. Even beyond just not having the resistances to break out, a similar logic to the Izanami thing would suggest that the Hogyoku would turn inert and harmless, as Aizen no longer would want anything, and thus IT truly would be checkmate.

The rundown I just did before that sidetrack left out one reason that really drives it all home: motherfuccin Izanagi.

A few details first, Madara’s usage of Izanagi should upscale from Obito using it for 5 minutes straight, and all three of his eyes should be able to use it. Izanagi only blinds an eye after the time is up, it is fully usable during the duration, and every single Madara should reasonably be able to use it all those three times. Original, Wood, Limbo, the works. Considering the discussions we’ve included about the Hogyoku boosts, transcendence, and gifting Aizen every Kido known to man, this is hardly unreasonable leeway. Hell, consider the fact that Madara can just make more clones.

That’s gonna sound like an NLF at first glance, which I can understand. But really, it isn’t. It still costs the original Madara’s chakra to create clones, so while new clones would be able to jump in with fresh new eyes to Izanagi with, Madara obviously wouldn’t be able to create them forever. However, that’s still 15 minutes of complete invincibility per Madara, and at minimum 30 Madaras capable of individually doing this for the entire group of Madaras, since Izanagi does affect the world around the caster, not just the person’s body. Combined with the transcription seal that lets Madara set jutsu to be activated later, including Izanagi itself. I just don’t see a way Aizen is going to get the jump on him in time. With Madara’s speed advantage and numbers, he can freely save transcription seals with Izanagi for strategic chokepoints and potential traps rather than to keep himself from being directly overwhelmed.

And that while I haven’t even mentioned Madara’s time reversal yet, which essentially allows the same thing except with fewer restrictions on Madara’s own power.

This ironically enough essentially makes the copypasta real.

One last thing I’ll mention for now (like I said in the beginning, you can safely assume whatever argument mentioned in here that I haven’t addressed either directly cancels out or just does not change the result), considering events like Kaguya’s revival, there’s an argument to be made that Limbo clones are linked to Madara, and thus major effects on them would spill over to the original Madara regardless. Not only is this not relevant if you believe Madara resists Kyoka Suigetsu (which I believe I’ve made it pretty clear that I do), even in that case, it’s not really even a disadvantage. Because following that logic, a case can equally easily be made that an Izanagi from one of the Limbos would free them all at once (likely possible either way since it is shown to affect stuff beyond the caster like I mentioned), or that a yet unaffected wood clone could use its own illusions to free or at the very least direct the affected Madaras, since the base Sharingan could do so, and doing so via illusory power means it should scale with the greater dojutsu.

To be honest, even with just the original Madara’s minimum 15 minutes of Izanagi, all the other small advantages I’ve mentioned simply seem like more than enough to get a rushdown and/or an illusion off in time. This matchup is just so complex that I had to run some things through to paint the right picture, both for everyone reading this but also for myself. Because despite everything I’ve said so far, please don’t doubt for a second that this mu is as close as it is complex. This is the matchup where I’ve felt the least confident in my answer in I can’t remember how long. It would not surprise me at all if Aizen won the episode, as he does have his own advantages. But ultimately, writing everything up, I feel even less confident in his victory for the matchup itself. The bigger picture simply favors Madara.

He’s got the speed, intellect, numbers, illusions, and bullshit eye powers to put Aizen out of commission more often than not.

The possibilities for this fight were infinite but Madara’s victory was all but on the horaizen.

(No better way to celebrate this momentous occasion then with the pinnacles of both series

Well at last it’s finally time it’s great to be here to help with a juggernaut of a match. I wanna say it’s been a great honor to have been part of G1 to be part of this endeavor. Madara and Aizen are incredible characters, some of the most widely beloved and revered of their series and everyone has at some point wanted to see these two go at it head to head. From my own personal experience Naruto’s been a series that’s been dear and close to me for a very good amount of my life. I've been following the story ever since it first blew up and became a household name in the west when it first aired on Toonami. I was mesmerized, captivated and blown away by it’s characters, world and exciting Ninjutsu that really showed how exciting and one of a kind the Ninja world can be. While it’s had it’s low points this series will always mean a lot to me and it’s impact it’s had on me is unforgettable. While I don’t have the same history with Bleach I’ve had an interest in it for a while and everything I’ve learned from it and it’s story and world has been incredible and really fascinating. I want to say thank you so much to Phantom, Cyber, CSK and everyone else who have helped out with this and talked about both Madara and Aizen and expressed great passion and love for both. I’ve learned so much about Bleach and the narrative comparisons between Madara and Aizen I wasn’t aware of before that really elevated this idea and made it even more fascinating than it was before for me. I see Aizen in a whole new light and see he’s so much more than the common perception of him may lead you to believe I’ve loved watching you all talk about both Naruto and Bleach and found it really inspiring congratulations and thank you all so much for your incredible work and love you’ve given me.

Madara and Aizen are really a perfect match and comparison for one another. Both are famous for their large pool of powers, ingenuous plotting and Intelligence that’s been acknowledged (and joked about) by many and for being the ones responsible for a good amount of everything that’s happened in their stories. But beyond even that, what makes it most interesting and engaging is the ideology and world views of both because of how they lived their lives and how it shaped them into the men they would become in the present day (seriously you can listen to any story when they speak). Madara being the false savior of the world plotted for the world to sleep under the eye of the moon the Infinite Tsukuyomi seeing true peace as impossible in the world where only pain hatred and conflict exists and that true peace could only be achieved by placing the whole world under a Genjutsu thanks to living in a war torn era where wars and conflict were all he knew and even achieving the dream of peace he sought by working with his best friend Hashirama he saw as a failure and that cooperation was merely a quieter form of conflict after reading the Uchiha Clan stone tablet he saw his end goal as the only salvation and a necessity for the world.

Aizen meanwhile has trauma stemming from loneliness. As an envoy of the Soul King he found it difficult to connect with others or find anyone who understood him from his perspective. This only deepened when he found out about the original sin and truth of Sole Society leading down a path of wanting to tear it down not wanting to live in a world run by sins and lies. Yhwach desired a world free of death, fear or loss. Aizen knew this was a flawed reality as without fear or death humans would become stagnant and he would come to realize it’s that search of hope and life that allows humanity to flourish. This epiphany is what allowed him to see past his trauma and change as a person. This is what creates a fascinating comparison of Madara and Aizen’s viewpoints and how Aizen’s epiphany greatly differed from Madara’s view of how the world should be with the Infinite Tsukuyomi ultimately a brilliant way to wove both of their goals and overall stories together.

Now going into who wins oh my it’s no small task. There’s so much discussion and things to go over it would require a lot of exploring. Both having an extensive amount of feats and an encyclopedia's worth of broken and useful abilities so it’s certainly got quite a lot to it.

In terms of AP Madara’s quite a lot to his name. He can summon massive meteorites that cause massive widespread devastation (better hope you can do something about the second one) which caused an earthquake that could be felt from the Land of Lightning all the way to the Shinobi Alliance HQ which was 595 teratons or large country level. His Perfect Susan’o was capable of cleaving entire mountains in single swings (16.49 teratons or country level). His limbo clone was able to knock down all of the tailed beasts who’s Biju bombs can vaporizer entire mountain ranges which results in large island to continent level is more powerful then Juubito who rose the Shinju tree (23 Petatons continent level). He’s also spread the Shinju Trees roots all across the planet (830 exatons), created multiple large rock satellites with Chibaku Tensei a bit more solid and larger then raindrops (5.15 zettatons). He’s also comparable to base Naruto who has everyone’s favorite feat of blowing a hole through the moon resulting in small planet level Madara has fought against stronger forms of Naruto then base so he should be above this by a significant amount. Madara should also be superior to Toneri who split the moon in half, blasted a hole through the moon and was capable of moving the entire moon even possibly using it to destroy the earth itself so all around they’re moon level to small planet level potentially planet level. Madara with 1 Rinnegan was also stated to be approaching Hagoromo in power who alongside his brother Homura created the moon. So Madara is very safely in the planet level range.

Aizen is also very capable in terms of power he’s much stronger than Ulquiorra who made a massive hole in Las Noches which came out to large country level is stronger than Bankai Yamamoto who can evaporate all the water in Soul Society and life wipe out in a short amount of time which is continent level. Is superior to Kenpachi who destroyed Gremmy’s meteor that is multi continent level. He’s comparable to Yhwach who sustains the existence of Soul Society and outputs more energy than Senna who used the power from the Soul Flow to stop two planets from colliding with one another and pushed them back to their regular spots all being in the planet level range. When comparing them Madara and Aizen get into planet level the degrees of which depending on what’s used is either they’re comparable or Madara is a couple of times more powerful.

In terms of speed Madara should scale around FTL from keeping up with the Kages including the Raikage Ay who’s Lariat moves at light speed reacting to Tsunade while she was traveling in a light speed technique kept up with Six Paths Sage Mode Naruto who dodged his light fang which is around low FTL. Aizen is capable of beating Hikone who’s time dilation has around relativistic speeds and he compares to several sub-relativistic to relativistic feats. So Madara would be faster by several times making it hard to touch the master of “can’t touch me” himself.

And then there’s the main event their powers and move sets each have a gargantuan list of powers available to them while I won’t go into as much detail as other verdicts. I can examine the most important ones here. With the comparison of Chakra too spiritual energy and the soul Madara can likely absorb a good amount of Aizen’s techniques with the Preta Path while he can’t rip out Aizen’s soul due to his resistances and nature as a Shinigami he can still read his mind if he can land the hand on his head the Deva Path gives Madara the ability to pull someone towards him or rebel them with gravity with Shinra Tensei and form giant stone satellites by throwing a view of gravity into the air through Aizen can likely reist the gravity and can fire lightning him his hands to help deal with pesky Skywalkers.. Madara likely can’t resist the gravity of Hado 90 since he hasn’t displayed the resistance to strong enough gravity fields such as Kaguya getting affected by the gravity of her own dimension.

And one of the biggest points of comparison is Genjutsu and Kyoka Suigetsu when talking about specialists in illusions and being 10 steps ahead of you it’s to be expected. Kyoka Suigetsu is a extremely potent ability having control over all 5 senses from just looking at it last for over a century and work on those with resistances to mental manipulation it’s certainly quite impressive but Madara’s own Skill in Genjutsu and Ocular Jutsu should make him likely able to resist it’s effects.

The Sharingan provides resistances and protection against other illusions and control Sasuke with just a regular Sharingan count reist Orochimaru’a transference ritual that takes over the mind and he corroded his entire mental plane. Madara could also maintain self awareness of himself upon becoming the Juubi Jinchuriki without his consciousness getting torn apart like Obito and of course resisting his own Infinite Tsukuyomi.

On the flip side Madara’s Genjutsu should likely work on Aizen since his Ocular Jutsu has several layers of upgraded and improved techniques. The base Sharingan can already cast Genjutsu to control the minds of others and subject them to the users command (as seen with Manda and Kurama) but the Mangekyo Sharingan enhances it even more. Obito with his Mangekyo Sharingan was able to control the Fourth Mizukage Yagura who was a perfect Jinchuriki who are able to break free from Genjutsu by the Biju agitating the chakra to wake them up (as seen when Killer B broke free of Sasuke’s Mangekyo Sharingan Genjutsu) on top of that Madara should have access to Tsukuyomi a Genjutsu that alters someone’s perception of time while in a nightmare realm which can include 72 hours of physical torture drowning having your entire life play out in a nanosecond replay traumatic events and so on. What’s more it’s stated even a perfect Jinchuriki like Killer B would not be able to resist Tsukuyomi despite his resistance to Genjutsu. So it’s possible Madara’s Genjutsu will still affect Aizen despite his resistances.

And of course there’s Madara’s endgame plan the Infinite Tsukuyomi Madara obtained the Rinne Sharingan essentially the ultimate Dojutsu eye witch he can use to use the Infinite Tsukuyomi by reflecting his eye off the moon releasing a light that covers the entire planet and its population under a dream realty where their trapped in the roots of the Shinju tree and it’s possible to use it without the requirement of the moon as Madara showed with Obito Aizen does not have resistances to illusions of this scale so the Infinite Tsukuyomi is definitely a possible way for Madara to win.

Arguably Madara’s biggest trump card here is Izanagi a Genjutsu where in exchange for eventual blindness a user can blur the line between fantasy and reality by making it so everything from damage to death is undone and turned into an illusion essentially rendering someone invincible for the duration of that time. Each eye lasts around 5 minutes and Madara has 3 eyes which grants 15 minute of it. And the big kicker is Madara can create 25 wood clones each capable of performing the same Ninjutsu as him so all of them are capable of using Izanagi. And Madara can create 4 limbo clones that reside in a different plane of existence so they’re invisible and cannot be touched unless you possess six paths chakra. So you essentially have up to 30 different Madara clones each having 15 minutes of invincibility and 4 of which Aizen can sense but has no means of touching or seeing so essentially yes it is the copypasta as an ability what are the odds.

And If that weren’t enough Madara can outright reverse time up to a few minutes so even if he gets into a dangerous situation he has some means of getting out of it. Madara also has Truth Seeking Balls which can destroy space time form into numerous shapes and destroy matter on a molecular level though Aizen should be capable of resisting most of these effects.

So to summarize there is a lot to this match, a lot you can explore and go into detail with and you can definitely make a good case for both. But Madara having a notable stat advantage both being even in a lot of areas being comparable if not equal in intelligence and strategic thinking Madara having some incredibly broken abilities that Aizen doesn’t have an answer for leads to him taking it more often than not. It was an incredible match to go over and I’m honored to have been part of an outstanding discussion along with everyone else. I'm extremely happy and thankful to you all. Aizen was an amazing opponent making this match a worthy final valley of legends but ultimately the victor shall be the founder of the Hidden Leaf leader of the Uchiha and false savior Madara Uchiha!

(Did you expect to have fun without me?)

Boy oh boy, this is going to be interesting. This is my return to doing verdicts, so I’m gonna have a little fun.

To get to the main course of this debate, I feel like we have to go over a couple things first. This mainly means stuff like strength and speed. Aizen and Madara have their fair share of natural feats and scaling so it’s ultimately going to be fun comparing them, but it isn’t too hard. Their strength should be in similar planetary ranges, which sets a standard for what really matters. Also, this means that just simply Reiatsu Crushing Madara won’t be an insanely viable wincon as they’d both be of similar willpower and strength. Before going further into that ability though, we’ll need to look at speed.

This is not that hard of a debate, Madara should substantially have a speed advantage over Aizen. This means getting off his Genjutsu will be easier to do than it would be normally. This doesn’t mean Aizen is a slouch in his own right as he has his own ways of keeping up with him. But that’s what leads into what matters more in this fight, who has the better abilities more suited to take down their opponent.

Base To Base:

Looking at it from a Base to Base perspective, Madara can take this without too much effort. While Madara and Aizen are relative to each other, the former has powers that make it hard for him to be taken down before overwhelming Sosuke. Examples being a supply of both shadow and wood clones, plus a giant susanoo that gives him greater range than he normally does. His base techniques allow him to mainly just keep a good defense and offense when dealing with Aizen’s abilities, meaning it’s less likely for Aizen to kill, let alone TOUCH Madara.

Transformations:

This is where things get a bit complicated, as not only is Ten Tails Madara involved but also the Hogyoku. I do feel like this is fairer towards Aizen’s chances of victory. His evolutions are constant and would give him a level of regeneration that can build up as a defensive measure against physical attacks, especially since they’d be at the same potential strength level anyway. However, Madara also gets a substantial boost in his own hax department that could even it out. Now, the Hogyoku’s regeneration isn’t perfect and Aizen’s own will to lose fucked him over canonically, but the sitation he was under and who he was fighting effected that being the outcome, while against someone like Madara there’s no real reason he’d subconsciously want to fail.

This is where I think things begin to change, as one of the substantial wincons people like using for Madara (The TSO), might just be ultimately useless here. While they do come standard for Madara when transformed, their abilities such as matter manipulation and potentially messing with the soul won’t do too much to Aizen. The reasons being him taking his own Black Coffin without any damage, a move that messes with space-time and is stated to be a method of atomizing the opponent. This plus most attacks in Bleach just being straight on soul based and Aizen being to take a majority of them without issue leads to him being able to resist the TSO.

Moving on to other aspects, let's talk about illusions. Both of these guys are insanely proficient in using hypnosis to their benefit in a battle to the death, but only one really has the best methods. Surprisingly, this might actually be Madara. While Aizen’s hypnosis can work on beings like Yhwach and characters who can mess with senses themselves, the situations where those happen are kind of weird. Aizen’s used to having senses fucked with, so of course he could make work arounds for that, however, while Yhwach could have “resisted” it through the Almighty, there are a couple big issues with this. I’m not sure how many people know but Yhwach has actively shown no defense against mental fuckery during his  time on screen. He didn’t have to deal with it before meeting up with Aizen, and didn’t even hint at any resistance the Almighty could give him to negate any illusions.

Even looking at the illusion Aizen implemented on the dude, it isn’t a very complex one. He just made himself look like Ichigo in the eyes of Yhwach, something that isn’t really that impressive even in the context of what Sosuke has done in the series. But the issue with this that makes me seethe the most is we obviously know that when Yhwach USES the Almighty, the eyes are all over his body, which there was not at the time of Aizen’s casting.

I don’t count Aizen out yet though, his abundance of hax and being relative strength make him a viable winner. The evolutions and regeneration really do him justice in being able to edge a W out for the Bleach fandom. I think this also applies to his Escudo Milion, a million layered passive shielding that's applied to cover blind spots. This is his best argument for prolonging until he can evolve beyond Madara, as the latter is going to have an insanely tough time dealing with a million layered shield where each level is similar to his own AP, if not above it.

As much as I do love Aizen, I will say I 100% expect Madara to take the episode. While these two big brained guys are really fun to research, it’s one hell of a debate. While I think Madara’s getting an animation W, Sosuke Aizen will be the one left with a debate medal.

(HOLY SHIT IT’S FINALLY HAPPENING!)

How do I even begin with this one? Not only just with the match itself, which has been a staple of VS Debating and anime fights/comparisons for as long as I can remember, but also what Naruto and Bleach mean to a lot of people, and especially to me.

My introduction to Naruto as a whole was with Gaara vs Toph, but at the time when I watched it, I wasn’t super intrigued, mostly because of younger me’s hype for Toph, but Season 2 of Death Battle was when I really started getting into it. I can vividly remember wanting to see characters I loved get in and the passion behind each fight and the stupid smile that was always on my face, even when I didn’t know the characters.

Flash forward to Season 4, we get some episodes I really wanted to see, with Thor vs Wonder Woman coming out right after I had been to the hospital, so I was really looking forward to watching the fight, and seeing what the next time was going to be. Now, I wasn’t that into Naruto or Bleach at that stage, mostly just daunted at the large size of the series, but I was interested.

A few of my friends had seen the anime for it, and the full manga was in my school’s library, so I could read it at any time, really. But when I heard that shout of “Getsuga… Tenshou!” I knew that the next episode would be something amazing, and boy was it. Something about the next time just grabbed me, and I’m not quite sure what it was, but I felt excited - more than I had for a lot of episodes, and when I heard it was going to be 28 minutes long, I was even more hyped. Not just a long animation, but longer analysis and conclusion, and that’s what I loved seeing.

So, with three weeks to prepare, and not much way to physically read Bleach (no matter how many times I suggested the library get the volumes), I read all 72 volumes of Naruto in the three weeks. And in those weeks, I grew to love the series. The world, the characters, the plot, themes and everything about it (except for Kaguya, no one likes Kaguya). I was ready. The analyses were great, the Blue Apron ads were admittedly pretty nice, and that fight was just stellar. They even got Johnny Yong Bosch, ahem, I mean “Adam Park” to voice Ichigo, and Naruto’s voice actress commented on the fight as well.

The next episodes which followed were great as well (especially Seph vs Vergil), but Naruto vs Ichigo always stuck with me, and by god did it make me want to get into Bleach. And so, I did. There wasn’t any rush this time, but I took the series at a slower pace and fell in love with it just as much as I did with Naruto, if not more. But ever since Naruto vs Ichigo, I wanted to see more Bleach in Death Battle, and there was one match I gravitated towards more than any other, and you already know what it is by this point; Madara Uchiha vs Sosuke Aizen.

It’s been four years in the making, but we’re finally getting another Bleach episode after consistently having Naruto episodes in each season, and with the Bleach anime coming back to cover the Thousand Year Blood War Arc, there’s no better time than the season which aims to celebrate the history of Death Battle itself, and with series and characters who mean a lot to me, and who I adore.

Before we get into that though, it’s so awesome to finally be back making a verdict for these blogs, and with another episode I wanted just as much as this (Dio vs Alucard) recently airing, I’m just so excited! Both the blog and episode were fantastic, and it was one of my favourite episodes of the show, so I hope that Madara vs Aizen can surpass it.

As for the verdict itself though, there’s so much to cover (and Cyber has done so much for this matchup, both the blog and in general and deserves congratulations and a break), but ultimately, I believe that Sosuke Aizen should be the winner. I have a gut feeling that the official research team will side with Madara, but I’m with Aizen all the way to the end.

First of all, both of these two are insanely intelligent. Able to mastermind plans spanning generations and manipulate pretty much everyone to fall in line with their plans, willing or not. I won’t go into extensive detail here, as others have covered it much better than I could, but both Madara and Aizen are relatively comparable. If I had to lean one way, I’d likely say Aizen, but not by much. Black Zetsu being retconned to have manipulated Madara the entire time doesn’t affect his intelligence greatly, but between the puppet and puppeteer, only one has always held the strings.

Alongside intelligence, experience is also an important factor. Madara’s experience growing up in war, fighting Hashirama at the height of his power and the entire Fourth Great Shinobi War is more than enough to make him one of the most experienced shinobi in Naruto, but from his fight with Hashirama to the war, Madara remained in the shadows, growing old and staying out of direct conflict for decades (not that he lost his edge). Aizen comparatively is hundreds of years old, with more formal training and battle experience which led him to take on the Vizards all at once, conquer Hueco Mundo, force their king into submission and out of the Gotei 13, the only characters who was on par with Aizen was Yamamoto, who’s over 2,100 years old. Having fought a wider number of foes for far longer than Madara, Aizen takes the edge here without much difficulty.

Before the direct stat and hax comparison, I would like to outline what I think the official team will be using for calcs and what I personally buy. I don’t think that they’ll use either Large Planet Naruto or Universal Bleach for the episode, and while I’m not sold on Large Planet Naruto yet, I can see solid reasoning for cosmic level Bleach. Either way, I don’t think the episode will use it, and I won’t be either. If you buy cosmic Bleach, Aizen decimates Madara with passive Soul Crush due to the massive stat gap, but otherwise, it’s pretty contentious.

Madara and Naruto in general are a lot easier to lock down. Obviously, Madara should be comparable to Base Form Naruto, who blew a hole in the moon with all of his chakra, and EoS Sasuke, who could entrap all of the Tailed Beasts within their own Chibaku Tensei. Along with scaling to Toneri who was stated to be able to wipe out Earth and could move the moon (8.67 Zettatons). To be specific, the highest point Madara gets is around 18.22 Zettatons.

Aizen and Bleach in general are a bit trickier. But thankfully, Aizen is one of the strongest characters in the series, so scaling is pretty easy. To preface this though, it should be stated that the Soul Society, Hueco Mundo and the Realm of the Living are all different worlds (and the Layers of Hell, too). And even from early on in the series, we’ve had confirmation of that, along with characters who can threaten these realms. The Sokyoku has been stated to be able to destroy the entirety of the Soul Society, Vasto Lorde Ichigo was stated to be able to destroy the world, could tear through the Chains of Hell along with multiple layers of Hell, the energy produced from Yamamoto’s bankai threatened all of Earth and Soul Society, Yhwach was going to destroy Earth, Soul Society and Hueco Mundo, etc, etc. You get the point by now. As for specifics, Aizen being a Soul King Candidate (like Ichigo, Yhwach and Hikone) means that he can physically sustain and destroy the entirety of the Soul Society, which would be 59 Zettatons.

He also massively upscales from Senna holding back two realms from colliding (38 Zettatons) and Yhwach sustaining the SS in his sleep, so being at this level of power casually is rather reasonable for EoS/Muken Aizen. Not to mention that his full power was still sealed during the TYBW, so he’s likely even stronger. But another advantage for Aizen is that he’s constantly growing ever stronger, even while sealed away. His Muken form being stronger than he was at even his Final Fusion thanks to the handy dandy item I’ll get to in a bit, but it’s worth noting that he will get even stronger during conflict, so this gap between them will increase the further the fight goes on for.

For Speed, Madara easily upscales from Raikage A’s Lariat, which moves at the speed of light, Orochimaru dodging photon beams, and Naruto dodging his own light fang, all of which are around light speed, with the light fang getting to 2.22c.

For Bleach, it’s again a bit trickier. Hikone moving so fast it appears that she dilates time gets to .75c, and the official Death Battle team bought Ichigo being faster than light in his episode against Naruto. Alongside this, there are multiple other lightspeed and ftl feats in Bleach, like Aaroniero doding beams of light (some interpretations get to 3.3c), Renji blocking a beam of light, Aizen moving in a flash of light, characters reacting to and avoiding the Negacion, Auswählen light, Lille Barro's Light Ray, Mimihagi’s speed (3c), etc. More contentious is Shunsui dodging the Shark Shot at near point-blank range, though this is because of questioning Ceros being light speed. If they are, then this fight gets to 75.2c.

There are issues which people may have with speed of this level, but even with just scaling Aizen above Hikone’s feat, he’s not massively outdone, and should be able to keep up. In fact, the difference between AP and Speed (assuming 18 Zettatons vs 59 Zettatons and .75c vs 2.22c) in this case is around the same, though I personally do buy Aizen being ftl. However, there’s also the matter of multipliers which affects not only strength, but speed and durability. We can reasonably give Aizen scaling to Ichigo’s 10x Bankai multiplier, essentially boosting all of these stats by a large degree

Even the more conservative stats for Aizen now eclipse Madara by a significant degree (7.5c vs 2.22c and 590 Zettatons vs 18 Zettatons), to where he might not blitz, due to the Sharingan’s precognition, but he’s well within one-shotting range. You could also argue that Aizen would also scale above the additional 10x boost granted to Ichigo by his Hollow Horn and the Gran Rey Cero, but I’m just sticking with this for now for sake of argument. Either way, boosting Aizen to such a degree opens up the possibility of a Reiatsu Soul Crush being a viable option, and even if it doesn’t outright kill Madara, he’d still be suffering the effects of such, like Ichigo did in his fight with Kenpachi.

Others will go into hax and resistances in greater depth and detail than I have, but I’d like to mention some specific abilities and how they interact. Madara’s basic jutsu won’t have much effect on Aizen due to the difference in ap/durability, and Aizen having resisted attacks of greater magnitude before. Amaterasu’s surface of the sun heat is impressive, but it’s a small, localised attack which can be blocked and overpowered, just like how Naruto did it, and Aizen has dealt with Yamamoto’s Bankai, which reached heat comparable to the core of the sun, and was endangering the Soul Society and Earth with his sheer output, so no Flame Jutsu will be very effective in this fight.

The Susano’o is definitely impressive, and will help him deal with a lot of Aizen’s tricks, especially since of its massive size, reach and the boost in power it gives to him. Problem is that the boost in power isn’t defined, it shouldn’t reasonably close the AP gap, and not only does Aizen have multiple long range options to attack from a comfortable distance, but he can also teleport, and given the massive size of the Susano’o, a man as smart as Aizen will pick up on it eventually and teleport within the Susano’o itself and attack Madara from the inside. Aizen himself has defences in his natural Reiatsu, which will repel attacks far weaker than himself, but also with his El Escudo, which gives him shields for defence.

Additionally, while Madara can fly in his full Susano’o, Aizen is able to ‘fly’ as all Shinigami do in all of his forms, so he can always stay out of Madara’s reach. As for Aizen’s Kido versus Madara’s ninjutsu, most of Aizen’s basic Hado and Bakudo are also easily dealt with by Madara, though his Kaido healing is very useful, along with his natural ability to regenerate. Madara also has regeneration, but Aizen being able to reform himself from tiny scraps means that Madara will be hard-pressed to actually kill him definitively.

Madara’s ability to absorb ninjutsu may also be close enough that he might be able to absorb some of Aizen’s Kido, stuff like lightning and fire blasts. Hado #90 and #99 would likely be unable to be absorbed due to their different nature, with Kurohitsugi warping space around the target (which Madara does not inherently resist, nor do his Truth Seeking Orbs), and Goryūtenmetsu being formed out of nature energy, which is exactly what Senjutsu in Naruto is equated to. Madara cannot absorb Senjutsu, and it was a large reason why Naruto was able to prevail in the end, as he’d mastered Sage Mode, so Aizen’s strongest Kido spell which Madara cannot absorb will be devastating.

Aizen may have more abilities overall to draw from, but not all of them are as useful as some of Madara’s are. The 25 Wood Clones give Madara a sheer numbers advantage which is a vital advantage for him in this fight, especially since they were each able to handle the Kage, and could all use Susano’o. Having to deal with that many Madaras all at once will be taxing. Not to mention the Limbo clones, which while Aizen may not be able to see due to them existing on a different plane of existence different to how Shinigami are just invisible to the naked eye, but he should be able to sense them. Naruto was able to sense them and could fight just fine, and Aizen while sealed was able to sense and effect different dimensions like Hell, so he should be able to combat them well enough.

Aizen’s fusions granted to him by the Hogyoku are admittedly a bit of a non-factor in this fight, at least the ones previously granted to him, as his new base while in Muken is superior to them all thanks to becoming a Transcendent being and having Kyoka Suigetsu fuse with his very being. This also brings me to the fact that after his defeat against Ichigo (which was what Aizen actually wanted and the Hogyoku made a reality), Aizen was sealed within Muken, as nothing in the Soul Society could kill him. This includes a laundry list of hax which I could go through, but that’d take far too long, and it’s all explained above, and in other verdicts. Some stand outs of Aizen’s resistance/immunity are reality-warping, existence erasure, damage transfer, diseases, death hax, energy drain, heat, transmutation, all of Mayuri’s drugs, and every other ability present within the Soul Society, as Muken’s prisoners are only held there if they cannot be killed by any other means, hence the numerous seals on his power while there.

Both are extremely talented swordsmen, but between the Gunbai and Kyoko Suigetsu, the Zanpakuto is far more useful, especially considering the abilities it grants. Giving Aizen complete control over his foe’s senses (including sixth sense) if they look at his blade, Aizen’s hypnosis is pretty much an instant win then and there. Even his issue of people needing to see the blade is mitigated by his Transcendence fusing Kyoka Suigetsu with his very being, allowing him to put others under his spell for upward of 100 years, and without them ever knowing. He was able to affect Yhwach, who can see all timelines and choose which one to make a reality, but not even he was able to prevent Aizen’s hypnosis.

Since when have you been under the impression that Madara was safe from this too? Okay, I just had to get the line in there somewhere, but Madara shouldn’t have much of a way to counter Aizen’s hypnosis, while his own Genjutsu is a bit less reliable. It works by manipulating the target’s chakra pathways to induce illusions, but Aizen doesn’t have chakra like shinobi do. There’s an argument that Mangekyo Sharingan users may be able to bypass this thanks to an excerpt from the Itachi novel, but the paragraph is referring to not requiring direct eye contact for it to be established, while the staple of whether or not manipulating the target’s chakra is required isn’t directly answered.

Even then, Madara doesn’t often use Genjutsu in combat. During the entire war, he had plenty of opportunities to do so, against Naruto, Sasuke, Might Guy, Obito, but he didn’t. Which leads me to my next point; which of the two characters is more likely to get off their hypnosis first? Without question, it’s more in character for Aizen to put Madara under hypnosis than it is for Madara to attempt Genjutsu against powerful foes he wants to test himself against. And that’s the thing with Madara, he loves to ‘dance’ with his opponents, testing them to see what they can do. It’s why he fought with Guy instead of just putting him under Genjutsu and ending the fight there.

Aizen is a much more pragmatic combatant, and has resisted illusions before, plus he has the spirit of Kyoka Suigetsu within him which may be able to wake him up (inside). Even if he is put under Genjutsu successfully, there’s still the matter of the Hogyoku, which will adapt him to oncoming threats, increasing his resistance to whatever it was that just affected him, and boosting his stats. With what I believe to be a solid lead in the stat trinity, more boosts would only widen the gap between them, in which Aizen could land a fatal blow with his blade, or something Madara cannot easily deal with, like Goryūtenmetsu.

The Rinnegan Paths Madara has access to aren’t massively useful in this fight either. The Deva Path’s gravity manipulation won’t do much, as Aizen was able to tank his own Hado #90 being used on him without any trouble, and he can’t rip out Aizen’s soul, as Aizen is a soul. Madara’s time reversal from the Ninja Storm games is a bit hard to definitively say is canon, but it’s countered by Aizen’s time stop Kido, and the fact that we don’t know how far back it can go, or if he can use it multiple times in a row makes it more of a possible option than a solid one. Additionally, a lot of Madara’s techniques drain significant amounts of chakra from him, and though scaling to Hagoromo and Hamura means he might be able to fight for months as a Sage of Six Paths, his chakra won’t last that long.

Aizen’s no stranger to long fights, and will be able to deduce that his foe is tiring out, and attempting different kinds of attacks. It’s also likely that Aizen could prevent Madara from using his ocular jutsu by blinding him, and Izanagi/Izanami do that anyway. While Izanagi would likely be ineffective (as Aizen was immune to a drug from Mayuri which works just like it, but he’s also come to terms with himself and wouldn’t have to undergo any great self- reevaluation), Izanagi is a vital advantage for Madara. With it, he can change reality to prevent his death over the course of 5 minutes per eye, and with the Rinnesharingan, he’s got 15 minutes total of Izanagi to work with. However, Aizen has resisted reality warping similar to Izanagi by Shunsui, so even if it kept Madara in the fight longer, it may not be the winning trump card he needs to secure a victory.

So in conclusion, both should start off with relatively comparable AP, though Aizen has the edge, and this will only keep increasing as the fight goes on thanks to the Hogyoku. Soul Crush may not fully come into play, though as the gap in power keeps increasing, Madara will feel some of the effects. Speed is a bit more contentious, but I firmly believe Aizen should at the very least be able to keep pace with Madara. Both have insane hax and abilities, of which both resist a massive amount of the other’s techniques, but Aizen’s Hogyoku allowing him to continually adapt to and evolve past anything Madara can throw at him gives him an important edge, especially with power nullification. It’s also unlikely that Aizen would want to lose to Madara as he did Ichigo, and the fact that Madara firmly holds a belief contradictory toward Aizen’s own when all he wants is for someone on his level to understand him would not make him wish to be defeated. Ichigo was the end result of Aizen’s years of planning culminating in someone who could finally understand him, and they share a connection Madara cannot replicate.

There’s undoubted parts to this debate which I have missed, and everyone else in the blog has put in so much time, effort and love for this matchup, and have all produced some amazing verdicts which compare the two in different ways. As characters, both Madara and Aizen are amazingly written, and are among the best in manga history, but at the end of the day, I believe that Sosuke Aizen would emerge the victor.

Thank you so much for everyone who has worked on this blog, and allowed me to be a part of it once more. It’s been a pleasure, and I can’t wait to see how the episode turns out. Thanks!

(This track embodies this matchup. Thank you Skye)

Several years ago, I was handed a Naruto manga volume in class. The series of ninjas and chakra captured my young mind, and I followed the series as much as possible. Likewise, a few years later I would catch a glimpse of Bleach airing on Toonami. The premise of the show was fascinating, my family would also join to watch it during the show’s run. A while later I would finish the manga series of both, and it would leave me wanting more. I felt the ending of Bleach was wasted potential to a degree, and Kaguya left a bad taste in my mouth. Years later the Bleach light novels would fill that void, and certain parts of Boruto as well. But beyond all of this, Madara and Aizen stood among my favorite characters from both franchises. Their charisma, and just ability to control the situation every time they were on screen was captivating. A question arose over time though: if both of these genius anime manipulators fought, who would win? Today I have been given the honor to present my take, after a few years of integrating into power scaling for both of these, especially Bleach (I wonder how many years of my life Bleach scaling has cut off).  Without further wait, The Verdict!

Also a huge thanks to Imade, Arc7, Shinigami, and others who have helped the Bleach Community over the years.

Massive thanks to G1 for hosting this, CSK, JS, Nemesis, and many others. And Phantom, even though she sucks.

Note: Each section is divided by heading, as this thing is going to be Long.

What is questionable

Gonna work a bit in reverse this time, due to the sheer amount of information that I need to go over. To start off I will list off here what I personally have issues or do not buy as arguments for stats or abilities either characters have.

Read Here (Includes stuff like Gremmy “making a space’, Kurama turing the world to ash, etc)

Direct Comparison

Stats

While Universal Bleach remains a rather contentious topic not helped by Kubo being vague on his intention on realm size, a gradual rise from continental to planet is rather consistent for God TIers. The same likewise applies for Naruto as a series. Recently Universal Naruto has been popping around (as mentioned above has issues), and acts as a counterbalance to the higher end bleach arguments. Also I hope we have moved on as a community from ”Hill Buster Ichigo and Only Mountain Level Naruto”, given the all feats above both of those in either series.

Looking at direct AP, Both are rather close:

Madara can upscale from Toneri feats after gaining the RinneSharingan and from Base Naruto in that film, and Aizen can multiply his power several times from boosts from the Hogyoku. Aizen can feasibly gain an advantage in this regard in a prolonged fight. Transcendence is very well above the boost from a Bankai.  Aizen also has access to his own bankai for another 5-10x multiplier, he has never used it in any media. The only thing we know is that supposedly it can only be used on those already affected by his shikai.

You could potentially scale True Shikai Ichigo to planetary via slicing Soul King, but given Yhwach goes on to spend a long time absorbing his power (where its made clear it was above Yhwach's base), it's more than likely the Soul King’s durability did not scale to Yhwach’s later shown ap after absorption. (Most likely due to missing most of his organs and being brain dead). Sometimes, ap doesnt equal durability in Bleach.

This may not be entirely the case though (read here)

A better argument is that planet sustaining is casual for SK Yhwach, and he goes on to absorb Ichigo’s hollow and quincy power. Aizen scales to that. Ichigo’s own hollow horn should be a 10x multiplier, so Yhwach may have been at least 10x his planet scaling. Then factor in Hogyoku boosts.

Aizen upscales from 59.44 zettatons and Madara upscales from 18 zettatons. Aizen would win AP with this interpretation. Hypothetically Aizen could get even stronger via Hogyoku boosts, possibly to a large degree. (More on this way later)

Madara can probably get to baseline planet without much issue.

Three Eyed Madara = 6 Paths Naruto w/ Biju Cloak and Rinnegan Sasuke together > 6 Paths Naruto w/Biju Cloak >>> 6 Paths Base Naruto >> KCM Naruto >> Base Naruto ==  18.22 Zettatons

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For the record, just wanted to say any controversy with Planet Aizen should already be covered extensively in the linked docs in the general power section for him, alongside the breakdown on why he scales to Yhwach. Here are shorter versions for preference:

Realms - Google Docs

Sustaining is done via energy - Google Docs

Seireitei Size and Las Noches Size are heavily debated topics in the bleach community. I go in depth on both in the docs linked in the power section for Las noches related feats and Seireitei related feats. Just wanted to mention here a large seireitei is consistent from:

A 10 day walk from one gate to the next, the Seireitei has 4 gates (diagram)

40 days = 960 hours.

Average walking speed: 3 mph

Circumference = 960 * 3 = 2880 miles = 4634910.72 meters

Diameter = 4634910.72/pi = 1475337.9 meters

Akon states there are at least 601 Districts in West Seireitei, thus at least 2404 districts in all of Seireitei. Japanese districts hold several towns in them and using average Japanese district sizes would get you a similar result to Yoruichi's statement.

The Seireitei to have 2400 districts as opposed to Japan’s 480 so:

Japan is 377,975 km^2, meaning each district is on average 787.447916667 km^2

x2400 = 1889875 km^2 for the Seireitei.

Making its radius 775.6 km.

Seireitei diameter: 1551.2 km

200 spirit miles,

1ri= 3927m

Diameter of area affected: 785 400m

Area affected: 484 475 338 949,9m^2

x3= area of Seireitei= 1 453 426 016 849,73m^2

Radius of seireitei: 680 176,35m

Meaning it’s diameter is: 1360352.7m

Tldr: Seireitei is consistently very big, check here also

Same applies to Las Noches, recheck this doc for reference.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As for speed, light speed Madara seems consistent across the board at his peak. He directly scales from a 2c feat from Naruto, which was not an aim dodge.

Aizen upscales from Hikone’s Rel+ feat at .7c. You might be able to make the following argument: “Hisagi said Ichigo could beat Hikone, and he has only true shikai, therefore true bankai upscales”. Tensa Zangetsu is a full speed boost bankai, so it should be a 10x boost. A nerfed Yhwach reacted to true bankai, and Aizen fought Yhwach, tso Aizen should be 7c. The issue is the entire argument is conjecture, as Hisagi hadn't seen Ichigo in 6 months and hadn specified which form, alongside with no direct comparison for Aizen to Scale to true bankai Ichigo. Yhwach blitz's that ichigo, but only via using the Almighty and nerfing Ichigo by breaking his bankai.

You could also use this calc for Hikone, though I could see it being considered a calc stack:

User blog:Arc7Kuroi/Hikone's Speed Defies Physics | VS Battles Wiki | Fandom

DB-end = 3466.4 / 1.04e-5 = 3.33e8 m/s = 1.11c (FTL)

Using Tensa Zangetsu high end argument: 11c

If you upscale Aizen with the above method, Madara upscales from the conversion of Itachi’s tsukuyomi feat. He can compress time down by 100,000,000,000 times with Tsukuyomi. Comes out to like 333c perception for being able to perceive it externally and control it.

Taking the average perception and reaction speed and applying the multiplication difference, comparing both reactionary and perceptionary speed to that of a normal human.

Average perception speed is 0.013 seconds

Average reaction speed is 0.25 seconds

Ratio: x0.052

Perception speed of 1e11m/s

Meaning Itachi's reactionary speed will be: 5200000000 m/s, 17.34c FTL+

So even with highballs, Madara takes the speed advantage. You could probably do scaling chains with multipliers for both (sage mode and eight gate multipliers/bankai and hollowfication multipliers), but then goes any semblance of narrative consistency. The list generally would take too long to produce, and both would just cancel out anyways.

Piercing Durability

I'm surprised I have to make this part, but I have seen several forums argue Naruto lose to Bleach because of this. Going beyond noting Bleach has its own fair share of anti feats in this department (Royal Palace training Byakuya stating he needs Hakuda to survive against a vice captain using a zanpakuto, Gin’s bankai stabbing through third fusion Aizen, etc), Madara has been pierced by Sasuke’s sword, and in turn the blade also went through Sasuke. This is ignoring that Sasuke's blades are custom made to be able to take hits from Kinshiki’s energy weapons, which can spit the god tree like butter. Sasuke’s weapons are meant to fight opponents as strong as him or beyond. It is literally part of his fighting style, lacing lightning release on it. This is not an anti feat, and trying to label these as such is ignoring these characters' full potential.

Genjutsu vs Kyoka Suigetsu

The big one. Above everything is THE DEBATE above debates for this matchup. Which master of illusions is superior.

Starting with Aizen, Kyoka Suigetsu is beyond impressive, With the need of only seeing it once, precise control over all 5 senses, the effect staying present for over 100 years in the body, the ability to affect the sixth sense, and being able to neg the Almighty’s power null. KS can affect those with strong wills like the souls in control of each Espada konpaku. It can also overcome mind hax resistance to a degree, being able to affect Yhwach and Byakuya, who both resist Pepe’s The Love. Byakuya was also initially able to somewhat resist As Nodt’s The Fear, and later after training seems immune to it:

Byakuya demonstrates that he was able to somewhat resist Äs Nödt's Schrift The Fear. The Fear searches through the memories of the subject to find any trace of fear they may have ever had in their life to act upon it, so even if they currently have no fear they will still be affected if their past does. From there, everything the target does from then on will be hindered by their own thoughts and fear of actions. It is potent enough to kill it's subjects instantly out of fear, yet Byakuya was not only able to survive, he was able to continue fighting Äs Nödt.

The Fear is later amplified by Äs Nödt's Vollständig, Tatarforas. With this The Fear is now induced by nerves, specifically optic nerves, and closing one's eyes cannot stop it.

Byakuya seems to be immune to fear now as Äs Nödt's The Fear amplified by Tatarforas had no effect on Byakuya this time.

The soul weakness applicable in this fight is the implication that the zanpakuto may have its hypnosis impaired to a degree against vastly stronger opponents (having much higher reiatsu). This might possibly be a weakness exclusive to Tokinada. (refer to the weakness section for Aizen).

As for mental resistance: Aizen is seemingly immune to Rose’s sound based illusions and can have the Hogyoku or KS awaken him from reiatsu based illusions, such as Byakuya and Ichigo did with their zanpakuto against Koga (refer to Aizen resistance section for mind hax). (Refer here to canonicity of that example

He may also scale to Byakuya resistances, but resistances in Bleach can be a mess to work out given characters can also neg hax with reiatsu if they are strong enough, and neither the Fear or love have ever been used on Aizen. Aizen also has shown the ability to adapt to basic sense manipulation, such as Shinji reversing his senses.

Aizen also upscales from having memories removed or affected, from Orihime and Ichigo (Check resistances)

Lastly, Aizen resists the Izanami-like drug and Superhuman Drug mental effects, alongside the memory removal devices of the Soul Society (refer to mayuri’s drugs in resistances for Aizen)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The regular Sharingan requires the opponent to have a chakra system, which in a cross verse setting would be like a secondary system that connects to the nervous system in this context. As for potency under this restriction, it can control humans and animals, control all 5 senses (which is the point of all genjutsu), and Sasuke was able to dominate Kurama within Naruto. Sasuke was also able to beat out Deidara’s genjutsu resistant eye.

Other aspects include paralyzing the target, forcefully extracting information (and sometimes killing the opponent afterwards), showing the caster’s memories to someone else, removing Genjutsu placed on the target by others, and controlling a target's actions. (refer to genjutsu:sharingan section)

With the Mangekyo Sharingan, Obito was able to control a Perfect Jinchuriki, who normally are resistant to even the MS. Madara with this eye could completely dominate Kurama’s will and force it into servitude, as could Obito. Tsukuyomi, which Madara should have as a pre-requisite of using Susanoo, is a mental domain, in which forces like time-space and gravity exist and can be controlled in any way or form by the user. It can be used to induce nightmares, torture, drowning, etc. It can manifest a seemingly infinite amount of the user in the mental domain. It can age the target mentally decades in a picosecond. It can delete personality, memories and leave the victim comatose.

The Rinnegan/Rinne Sharingan gives Madara mind hax potent enough to affect all life forms and trap them in fully realized dream domains, only needing the moon to act as a lens to increase the range of the genjutsu. He once used a localized version on Obito.

For resistance, the base Sharingan can negate Orochimaru’s mind deletion, and Madara upscales from this. Sasuke at this time was able to resist a weakened Tsukuyomi. Sasuke’s Sharingan and MS were inferior to Obito, who could control Perfect jinchuuriki while Sasuke could not. The Sharingan is also supposed to be able to resist visual “spells” and illusions

Each evolution of the sharingan should have better resistance than the prior, culminating in the Rinnegan being able to resist Infinite Tsukuyomi (Madara was also hit by the genjutsu and was unaffected). Sasuke implies it's possible for the Rinnegan to resist genjutsu from that very same eye, which should apply to lower versions of the eye resisting their own genjutsu to a degree.

Shinobi are also trained to be able to break genjutsu with release seals. As a jinchuuriki, the ten tails may attempt to awaken Madara from illusions should both be put in danger. He could also control the Juubi's power without having his consciousness ripped apart, like Obito almost was.

None of Madara’s dojutsu inherently grants immunity to auditory genjutsu, though it can be broken out by being exposed to another person’s dojutsu. Frog Song affected pain with the Rinnegan, though it is called the “strongest genjutsu”.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

On paper it would seem Madara should come out on top here. KS comes across as a “super’ genjutsu, which the Sharingan and its evolutions like Rinnegan should be able to deal with, even with KS being more of a “visual spell”. One could argue Byakuya’s resisted abilities are not too akin to genjutsu, and the Rinnegan resisting Infinite Tsukuyomi would be still above those regardless. The Issue begins with exploring the limitations of genjutsu and how it compares to KS.

A chakra system equivalent does not exist in shinigami. The closest comparison is Koga sending in reiatsu in his target to control the 5 senses, akin to what genjutsu does. Likewise, a close relationship to zanpakuto being the key to break out of these is close to how a perfect jinchuuriki usually operates against genjutsu. Tsukuyomi is stated to be a threat to Perfect jinchuuriki, and if we follow this to its logical conclusion, it should affect shinigami as well. Then comes the Itachi novel statement discussed prior above. Nearly every life form in Naruto has a chakra system present, even if chakra is not present near the nervous system at times. Given I do not objectively by the novel statement removing this restriction even from MS genjutsu, this is where things start to break.

Shinigami also dont use their eyes that much in hig level combat, as explained by Shunsui. In the Lille Shunsui fight, Shunsui describes that seasoned warriors “turn off their eyes” and see through their spiritual sense, and that they do it subconsciously. So the argument is Aizen would be subconsciously turning his eyes off. MS genjutsu doesnt require complete eye contact, so its a 50/50 thing.

Kyoka Suigetsu is neither sending out chakra or reiatsu to invoke hypnosis, it is just a visual spell. While the base Sharingan has resisted Orochimaru’s soul based mental attack, Kyoka Suigetsu beat out the power null aspect of the Almighty. Mind Hax resistance doesn’t translate 1 to 1 with power null, but KS potentially beat out two layers of resistance (The Love is > the Zombie, Byakuya resists the Love), or at least a single layer (Byakuya resists the Fear). If KS does work on Madara, it is checkmate, as Aizen could have Madara and his clones kill each other, or prevent them from sensing an attack. Since whether or not it worked would be decided at the beginning of the fight, Limbos would also be affected, as whatever happens to Madara seems to affect them, as shown with Kaguya's revival. They are projected shadows of Madara and should share any Influence KS had on the original.

Rinnegan resists the IT, but if that follows the chakra flow rule, this resistance is useless.Though,  The databook and manga suggest it is the light from IT, not chakra, that induces the illusion. Sasuke specificies it is the light the moon poduces that does this. We don't know how this translates for the local version Madara used on Obito with a base sharingan.

As for IT working on Aizen, the Infinite Tsukuyomi is stated by Tobirama to not affect the dead, which is supported by the databook. As stated in shinigami physiology, shinigami weirdly are more akin to living beings than being closer to what we would think a soul would be. The difference is so apparent Kubo has gone on record to say arrancar can mate, and souls can be naturally born in SS.  It is true early in the series this wasnt the case, but even by the time of the databooks shinigami are listed as only invisible, but still made of a kind of matter that is physical. Edo Tensei are not the same thing, being a soul from the pure land locked in a vessel, and we know Edos can be affected by normal genjutsu, as Itachi proved. It could be asked if Genjutsu could affect a soul in the first place, but as discussed Aizen is far from a “regular soul” having internal organs, blood, and a nervous system. You could get into semantics on Edo are souls from the afterlife -> Aizen is a soul from the afterlife -> if IT doesn’t work on Edo it may not affect Aizen either.

Otherwise Aizen should be unaffected by techniques like the Izanami, given at the end of the series knows who he is and he resists the same effect from Mayuri’s drugs. The Tsukuyomi’s mental aging effect cannot kill Aizen, as he can live for thousands of years, and resists the same effect from Mayuri’s Superhuman drug. The drowning effect might work for incapacitation, as shinigami cannot breathe without oxygen, as shown by Kenpachi. The Hogyoku might respond in turn with adaptation. Healing might work, since Tsunade used that method to undo its effects on kid Sasuke, though Itachi had no intent to kill Sasuke.

If IT can work on Aizen, that would be a definitive checkmate. Bleach lacks any resistance on that level. Given KS bypassing resistance, and the controversy on the nature of genjutsu versus beings without chakra flows, I favor Aizen in this regard, though the Sharingan’s resistance to non chakra based mental attacks makes this very close. It could go either way,

A final thing to note is that given we know Aizen does indeed have bankai, and now is fused with his blade to such a degree he is a more literal “the blade is me” than Ichigo, he essentially has two forces to wake him up from most Genjutsu, KS and the Hogyoku. While Obito has shown genjutsu potency to affect even a perfect jinchuriki like Yagura, another part being added (Ao) broke it, so Aizen may be able to replicate this.

Jutsu vs Kido/Hogyoku

This is going to be a quick as possible rundown on abilities which may be explained more in detail in other verdicts.

Due to the deep connection between the soul and chakra, and the fact that kido is not genetically locked like kekkai genkai, there is a hypothetical argument that the Sharingan may allow madara to copy kido. I can understand contention on the argument and I myself lean neutral on it but for the sake of argument, Aizen can use Hanki to cancel out most copied kido. It's also likely that most won't do anything to him considering he can casually tank hado 91 and survive hado 96, alongside showing he can break out through several high-level bakudos. The major issue would be if the time stop kido was copied. While it has quite the limited range and requires the user to keep his hands clasped, Madara is the ideal person to be able to exploit it. All he needs is one clone to initiate it and have the others outside of the initial AOE, and then basically checkmate. Aizen's best option against this if it ends up getting copied is to just escape the AOE rather than try to risk getting up close to cancel it with Hanki. It could possibly be argued that he could resist time stops as he resisted the time hacks from the cleaner but that was a different temporal ability. Though Aizen implies kido is 4 of the limits as a shinigami, and he surpassed all 4.

BBS implies Kido isn’t to practical on Transcendants.

On the other hand, being able to use several kido at the same time is what is going to allow Aizen to hold off Madara's numbers advantage. He's going to try and immobilize as many as possible with high level bakudos, and kill as many wood clones with high level hados. Madara can swap out with Limbo to escape sealing, or break out of most as he resists sealing to an extent since he broke out of Gaara's.

Aizen flat out resists Chibaku Tensei, as he was not affected by the Planet level gravity from hado 90, and CHibaku Tensei can be broken out by characters relative to the user or stronger than them, suuch as 8 tailed Naruto and Momoshiki.

It is possible the wood clones might be weaker than the user, as the clones used by Madara were weaker than him. This can be explained by him just wanting to test out the five kage, and it's later noted the wood clones summoned by Hashirama we're only weaker because he was hogging up too much chakra.

None of the clones or Madara himself have proven the level of resistance to the gravity that would be produced by hado 90 (Sasuke, Naruto, and Kaguya for example were immobilized by the gravity of her planet). Madara could potentially try and use his time reversal to escape, though it should be noted that the distance it can cross is several hundred kilometers since it can cover most of the seireitei and even most of the upper dome.

The atomization and Space Time properties of hado 90 would be resisted by Madara, as six path chakra users/ten tails hosts can survive being exposed to truth seeking orbs without suffering any of the effects of the orbs which include both of those abilities.

Madara can either absorb chakra (which is half spiritual energy) directly from his body as shown when he had no eyes, or through the preta path, which can absorb energy from far stronger opponents. However it is unlikely that he could absorb Aizen’s kido, as shown by hado 90 with punching a hole through the sekki sekki barrier, which normally nullifies and vaporizes spiritual energy. It should be noted Aizen resists energy absorption, and all kido is from this energy pool:

-Energy Drain (Shunsui can't kill him, which includes the energy drain from his bankai. Mayuri states his heart produces energy without ceasing, the Soul Society has special prisons that drain of all your spirit energy, doesn’t work on Aizen, Aizen is noted to have the among largest reverse of energy of anyone, to the point that is the sole reason he was considered a threat by Yhwach)

Aizen can use hado 99 to bypass the immunity to ninjutsu provided by being a ten tails host, since the attack is more than the natural energy of whatever planet it's used on. Given it is the strongest hado it can upscale from the user's physical AP. It cannot break down Madara's Susanoo with its energy absorption properties, as Madara's was designed to deal with the energy absorption from Hashirama's wood style. I would imagine what would occur as a clash between the Wood Dragon which can also absorb energy and Hado 99's energy dragons, which most likely would result in the mutual destruction of both after the dragons detonate upon being absorbed by the wood dragon.

A real impairment on any chance of victory for Aizen is Madara's limbo clones. Aizen should be able to sense them given he can sense events in other dimensions and can interact with them as his reiastsu reached hell, a seperate dimension, while he was either in SS or hueco mundo, however he cannot see them.

Limbos are stated to be able to use any ability Madara has, and storm 4 supports this by having them use Susanoo. He can produce four at once and while they originally had a cool down that required them to refuse with him for a while, after acquiring his second eye they are capable of being of much farther distance away from him and can remain out for much longer.

Aizen naturally resists all the effects of the truth seeking orb (refer to his resistance list). I firstly do not buy that the truth seeking orbs damage the soul, and even if they did Aizen should be able to survive given he is going to take attacks from a zanpakuto.

Izanagi is the other ultimate game changer for Madara. With the ability to sacrifice up to three eyes for 15 minutes of complete immortality in which he cannot be harmed in any shape or form, furthermore given the Limbo are stated to be able to do anything Madara can, there would be four more users of it with 15 minutes of immortality each. Heck, wood clones can use susanoo, and there's nothing stating that they can't use Izanagi either. This puts Aizen at a massive disadvantage of not being able to harm any of his opponents, and Madara can just make more wood clones to sacrifice for even more immortality. Madara can also cheese the time stop via a transcription seal of Izanagi already placed on him.

Madara feeding chakra to Aizen to transmutate him won't work, As Aizen resists via being able to weaponize reishi for his fragor which is more akin to natural energy, though this opens the door again for that to be absorbed. Aizen also just flat negs this hax. (Check resistances for him)

Aizen can soul crush any of Madara's animal summons, as they do not scale to Madara. Given Madara scales to Naruto being able to pull a tug of war with his own soul, I'm not entirely convinced a zanpakuto would immediately kill him via it's soul hax properties. Aizen resists human path soul rip via scaling to Tatsuki and Orihime resisting the gonzui soul rip, and being a soul himself. Aizen most likely cannot soul crush Madara, they are too close in power and as mentioned before chakra is essentially also half spiritual energy. If you upscale it from Gonzui it might work(?), though I’m not sure how consistent that is given Tatsuki could survive Third Fusion Aizen’s soul crush (he was suppressed, but wanted to kill Ichigo’s friends). Given Aizen scales to gonzui resistance wise, it's unlikely the Gdeo Mzao can affect him with its phantom dragons.

Note: While Aizen wanted to kill Ichigo's friends, he wanted to hang their bodies where Ichigo could see them, so he specifically couldn't soul crush them as they would disintegrate had he done so.

Given Aizen can resist 15 million degrees Celsius, Amaterasu's heat cannot harm him.

Aizen's regeneration is far superior to Madara, being able to come back from particles and it's what's going to keep him in this fight for quite a while. The Hogyoku can hypothetically keep adapting Aizen while also empowering him. As a piece of the soul king it scales to another fragment that nullified the conceptual power null from Ichibei.

Madara’s own regen isn’t as good, but will save him from several of Aizen’s attacks.

Madara's black receivers and chakra chains are most likely not going to have much in effect, as Aizen resists application of both weapons, including the Energy suppression via wood release as well:

-Power Null (Negated the zanpakuto weakening properties of the muken seals, his hado 90 broke the sekki sekki barrier which negates spiritual power, Kyoka Suigetsu worked on the almighty despite its power null aspect. Adult Toshiro’s freezing power null might also not work, given Aizen is still alive in the final chapter despite the SS wanting to kill him if possible)

While mentioned before that Aizen is immune to the soul rip from the human path, he is not immune to the mind reading from it. To be fair it could be argued that he could try and invoke hakufuku to put Madara to sleep if he came in close to grab Aizen to read his mind.

Given all the poisons Aizen resists, it's unlikely he would be put to sleep by the pollen produced by wood release.

Given Aizen's reiatsu can cover over 50,000 km, he has the range advantage, though Madara’s range with the God tree is close, sitting at 20,037.5km via spreading its roots.

Madara could try and seal Aizen though:

-Sealing (Has broken out of several bakudo, was able to resist his own muken seals)

Aizen was only mainly sealed by a Kido designed by Urahara, and only when drastically weakened.

Aizen being unaffected by Mayuri’s many poisons (including his bankai) and overcoming Gin’s cellular poison should be more than enough evidence that wood style’s pollen based poison would not work on him.

Lastly, The Hogyoku’s broken adaptation will be very handy in this battle. Being able to negate Ichibei’s abstract name based power null is nothing to scoff at. I could see Aizen himself cheesing alot of jutsu because of this, though it has no answer directly to Izanagi.

Aizen resists reality warping from Shunsui, though the comparison is far apart on what his zanpakuto and Izanagi do. Hogyoku evolving Aizen in power in time might even things out to a certain degree, but he is still badly outnumbered by 30 Madaras between all the clones (4 of which he can only sense).

Conclusion

So first, I want to say if you read all of my rambling, thanks. I am my own worst enemy on these kinds of things.

This topic is one I have been mentally debating myself for the last year or so. For several months I held that l take that universal Bleach could be seen as solidly objective, though that changed in the last 2 months or so. My honest take on it is that it is a “meta”, a possible interpretation of Bleach’s cosmology, but no more objective than what I have been arguing here on this blog.

I will say now, should you fully believe Aizen is cosmic, he probably folds Madara via soul crush off the bat, unless you peer into the equally contested cosmic Naruto arguments.

But I'm not here for those what ifs, I’m here to wrap up my take on this glorious fight.

Madara and Aizen, False Savior and the Envoy.

Aizen does firmly one shot base Madara, and Sage Mode as well. Speed is also a big issue in that any way you cut it, Madara ends up faster to some extent.

At their peak, both are relative, both decently upscaling from close zettaton values, with Aizen in the slight advantage. You can do massive scaling chains for both or wonky multiplier stacks, but for the purposes of simplicity I’m going with what has been put in the blog. Both can get stronger, Madara via absorbing chakra from his surroundings via Sage abilities, and Hogyoku adaptation for Aizen.

Intelligence will more so be covered in other verdicts. In a situation with no prep, I don’t think it shall be the sole deciding factor, though obviously it is important on how they choose to counter each other's abilities.

All of this, and the hax discussion is moot if KS works on Madara, as Aizen starts with it right off the bat, and Madara generally does not open a fight with a genjutsu (though he used 1 for paralysis, his first on screen fight shortly in). So does it work? Maybe? As I stated prior, I have issues with the Itachi Novel quote, but the Rinnegan blocking IT should be enough. Though how that translates to KS beating the Almighty’s power null is where the waters get muddied.

The Hogyoku should handle any genjutsu below Tsukuyomi, and Aizen’s own resistances should take care of most of its effects. I could see adaptation possibly breaking it. Healing might work, since Tsunade used to undo its effects on kid Sasuke, though Itachi had no intent to kill Sasuke. Kubo’s odd choices on what a Shinigami is might bite Aizen in that Infinite Tsukuyomi might work on him, though again even that conversation is a mess.

You can read the hax comparison rather I speak it again here. Tldr, Aizen resists most of Madara’s hax but is stuck with 30 Madaras, 4 of which he can't see, and each has 15 minutes of broken immortality.

Now to be fair, between skill, large AOE, using multiple kido at once, etc, Aizen might be able to keep them at bay. Major damage to Madara seems to remove the Limbos present, and if the wood clones end being weaker than Madara via chakra conservation, Aizen can kill them via gravity from hado 90. Given I don’t buy madara being able to absorb kido, Hado 99 is a massive threat to him via decently upscaling from Aizen’s ap. Aizen using Shunpo and teleportation helps out with the speed difference.

I do think Aizen can win, but only if Madara’s eyes dont counter KS. KS would auto lock in Aizen’s win. The mere chance of Madara starting with lower forms of his eyes is possible (While an Edo, Madara showed he can “dial” the eye state). The chance is very open for KS to affect the Sharingan, or EMS potentially.

Madara can start off with the Rinnegan, as His real eyes don't seem to revert back to prior stages, and it still scales to resisting the LIGHT (not chakra) of Infinite Tsukuyomi (which is billions of minds). As I said KS might still beat this but for me it is too big of an unknown. Under a DB, these guys are fighting till they go all out, forms included. Under a different scenario I would heavily favor Aizen, especially base to base. Keikaku wins in some scenarios, but not enough here.

While Aizen can outlast the real Madara using Izanagi, the real danger is that the limbos and the clones can use it as well. Between this ability and the time reversal, Madara can cheese his way out of most of Aizen's attacks.

I can definitely see people reading this blog and stating that this would be out of character for Madara. We are giving these two they're absolute full potential in abilities, otherwise granting every Kido for Aizen to use would also be out of character.

Aizen’s regen most likely prevents Madara from flat out killing him, but he can leave him incapicated.

However….

Aizen is an intelligent man. Sosuke would note early on something is off with Madara’s eyes (especially if they allow him to resist KS), and would not think twice to blind Madara in any possible opportunity. Should Madara lose his eyes, he can still fight but would lose access to the best parts of his arsenal. For whatever reason, Juubidara does not seem capable of regenerating his own eyes. Loss of eyes would mean no genjutsu, but it also means sacrificing KS working on him entirely.

The whole point of Transcendence is that you cannot sense your opponent's energy because you are vastly weaker. Isshin surmises Aizen's Reiryoku after his first full transformation could only be sensed by someone who was at the same level as him. For comparison Rukia in Hueco Mundo could sense “Vasto Lorde” Ichigo/Zangetsu’s energy despite her being on the level of ninth espada at best. That would make her weaker than Bankai Ichigo at that time. (Here for details on the boost level) I already mentioned in stats how Aizen was stronger, and these boosts just seal the deal, opening Madara up to soul crush or reiatsu power null.

The above is indeed debatable, as to how far Multipliers hold up or how many are intended in the story. This would be an example of too much. Regardless, Aizen getting the Hogyoku and the absurd power jumps it gives makes it more believable that Aizen would have a level of power to kick in a reiatsu power null before Madara hits in the Infinite Tsukuyomi. As such, I’m going with the former Captain of the 5th Division.

Thanks for Reading! Support the official release of both series, they deserve it.

I end with giving you this:

【BLEACH】完全感覚DREAMER / ONE OK ROCK

Naruto Shippuden Ending 33 | Kotoba no Iranai Yakusoku (HD)

Phantom Falcon

(Allow me to be a nerdcore shill for a small bit. Seriously, these slap so hard)

Hi, my pfp represents me after doing almost every single calc on this blog and doing Madara’s entire section.

So I want to give some backstory for this match, or rather, my history with Naruto and Bleach.

Back in 2017, I saw Naruto vs Ichigo announced, and started watching both series...as in, 20 eps lol. Wasn’t super big on them. But the episode came out and my god, it still remains one of my favorite episodes in the show, with incredible analysis, a fun animation, and a level of research not many episodes show, even now. It got me even more invested into Naruto and Bleach, and I decided to finish them!

4 years later lol

It wasn’t until All Might vs Might Guy that I got back into Naruto, and I became a massive fan. The characters, setting, world of ninja’s, all of it was a joy, even with some low points. As for Bleach, I started reading it during September 2nd (i wonder why huehuehue) and similarly fell in love with it. Both franchises are some of my favorite manga ever, and above them all, Madara and Aizen have remained my favorite characters in their series. What can I say, I’m a sucker for villains. And as time went on, this became my single most wanted matchup of all time. From their connections and contrasts, to the animation potential, to the music potential (the track came out, Hollow Dreams slaps), everything about it was just...incredible. And I have the honor to contribute a huge part of this blog with some of my best friends in the world. I really couldn’t have asked better people to talk about my most wanted fight with. Js, CSK, Tinnie, Cyber, Adam, Nemesis, Hyper, everyone: thank you so much for making this an amazing experience

Sorry for the sentimental talk haha, I know why you all are here. Pretty sure a lot of my friends are just looking forward to what I have to say for my most wanted MU, so onto the verdict. For this, I’m going to make mine more unique from others so I’m not just repeating words, and just have their stats equal. Frankly, they’re most common AP arguments are relative enough (Madara upscales so much from BASE FORM NARUTO’s 18 zettaton feat that he’s probably just baseline planet, as well as Aizen for being relative to Yhwach sustaining Soul Society, though he downscales a smidge. You could probably argue multiplier bullshit for both based on the 8 Gates and Bankai multipliers but shrug) and depending on how lenient you are for lightspeed attacks, one could argue Aizen is comparable enough in speed. So to not just repeat what everyone is saying, I’m going to be tackling probably the hardest subject.

I’ll be going through all of Madara and Aizen’s abilities and how they counter and bounce off of each other. Yes, every single one. Grab your fucking popcorn lads, this is gonna be long. Gonna go one by one for this:

Madara’s abilities and Aizen’s resistances

Fire Release Techniques/Amaterasu: Amaterasu is stated to be as hot as the surface of the sun, which has a temperature of 9941 degrees Fahrenheit. Aizen has withstood the temperature of Yamamoto’s Bankai, which can reach temperatures up to 15,000,000 degrees Fahrenheit. Amaterasu should be nothing more than a slight burn to him.

Wood Release pollen: Aizen has resisted a large number of poisons, making it unlikely Madara’s pollen will be very effective on him

Sealing: Chibaku Tensei could theoretically incapacitate Aizen, but as shown with Momoshiki, Chibaku Tensei sealing seems to be based on AP. Under the assumption both are equal, it’s very likely Aizen can break out by flexing his Reiatsu.

Deva Path/Gravity Manipulation: Kurohitsugi is direct gravity manipulation and Aizen was fine from it after getting caught in the middle of it. Granted, Madara can still pull on the ground to summon multiple meteors to buy time and attack Aizen

Transmutation: Madara could feed enough Chakra to Aizen to turn him into stone with Senjutsu. However, given how the Hogyoku has Hollow Transmutation as an ability, it’s not unreasonable to say Aizen’s adaptation with it allows him to resist it

Izanami: By EOS, Aizen’s epiphany gives him a better sense of who and what he is as a person, which means Izanami prooooooooobably won’t work

Summons/Animal Path: Don’t scale to Madara in stats so Aizen just Reiatsu crushes lol

Truth Seeking Balls: To my surprise, despite being one of Madara’s best abilities, Aizen resists these pretty easily. Aizen has been point blank in his Kurohitsugi attack (which at full power, is stronger than him) and was perfectly fine from it. Kurohitsugi, in multiple Japanese translations, has been stated to atomize people, and is stated to rip apart time and space, similar to the TSB’s. TSB’s have been argued to be regeneration negation and soul hax, but those ignore context, and I’ve been guilty of that. The reason Minato couldn’t regenerate his arms from a TSB was because it nullified Ninjutsu, and given how Edo Tensei is literally just, well, Ninjutsu, getting struck by it nullified his healing factor. This applies to his arms missing when we saw his soul, his arms weren’t tethered to the living world anymore due to the TSB’s striking him and nullifying his Ninjutsu.

Genjutsu: A Bleach filler arc (with Kubo heavily involved) shows an ability that is deadass just Genjutsu, and Byakuya resisted it. Aizen likely could as well

Rinnegan Genjutsu: Given how this bypassed the resistances of all the Tailed Beasts, making it superior to basic Genjutsu, there’s no proof Byakuya, let alone Aizen, resists mind hax of this layer

Tsukuyomi: Bypassing layers of Genjutsu once again with deadlier effects, the Tsukuyomi could theoretically leave Aizen comatose long enough to deal a fatal blow

Infinite Tsukuyomi: While some may say Shinigami being “dead” means they aren’t affected by IT, that’s not the case. Arrancar can mate, souls can be naturally born, souls can “die”, etc. By EoS, being “dead” is just retconned, and it makes the IT viable. Given how it can bypass mental resistances (as it affected Killer B, and Sasuke said Naruto would be affected by it if he got outside), there’s no reason it won’t affect Aizen

Regeneration: Scaling to Juubito, Madara’s regeneration is good enough to heal half of his body being atomically destroyed (since half of Juubito was destroyed by a TSO)

Precognition: Sharingan users gain limited precognition, and Madara can use this to his advantage to see upcoming attacks from Aizen

Human Path/Soul Manipulation: This is a weird one, because the answer is both yes...and no. Due to his nature as a Shinigami and surviving attacks directly to his soul due to being, well, a soul, Aizen can resist the Human Path doing any weird bullshit with his soul, and resist Madara yanking it out. However, the Human Path’s extra ability to read minds isn’t something Aizen has an answer to. Madara doesn’t even need to rip out his soul, he just needs to grab his face to read his mind. Once he’s done that, he’ll know Aizen’s weaknesses, abilities, and what he needs to do to defeat him.

Preta Path/Energy Absorption: The Preta Path can absorb multiple Ninjutsu techniques, and it’s limit is described as a bottomless swamp. Remember, Chakra and Ninjutsu utilize physical and spiritual energy Given how most of Aizen’s attacks except for a few are spiritual due to the functions of Bleach techniques, Madara can easily absorb Aizen’s attacks to refuel himself

Wood Clones: Nobody except for those highly adept in ocular Jutsu can tell the difference between a wood clone and the real deal. Given how Madara can make up to 25 with nearby vegetation, Aizen will have a hard time dealing with Madara’s equal in stats, all with the same abilities I mentioned, without knowing which one is the real deal

Limbo Clones: Due to being in an alternate dimension, one could maybe argue Aizen could directly attack them since his Reiatsu reached Hell, a separate space time, but he wouldn’t be able to see them, only merely sense. With all the same stats and abilities as Madara, it’s gonna be a real bitch dealing with them, especially with the real Madara AND wood clones. Even if Aizen landed a fatal blow, Madara can just substitute himself with a Limbo Clone

Susanoo: This may sound weird but consider you, a human sized object, fighting a giant kilometer sized armored warrior. Even if you’re equal in strength, you’re not gonna do much to it. In order to completely destroy it, you need a large sized AoE attack to destroy all of it, and Aizen doesn’t really have much. Add in the massive range of the Susanoo and it’s mobility, as well as the fact all clones can use this, and Aizen is not gonna be having a good time dealing with these

Izanagi: By far Madara’s greatest ability here, Izanagi grants Madara at least 5 minutes of immortality for each eye that each clone can abuse. In order to truly beat Madara, Aizen needs to outlast at minimum 15 minutes of immortality for each character, and assuming he’s fighting them one by one, that’s around 450 minutes he has to go through, or 7.5 hours. Aizen has no good answer for Izanagi

Aizen’s abilities and Madara’s resistances

Attack Reflection: Says it in the name, Aizen can reflect Madara’s attacks with a barrier. Useful for extra defenses

Escudo Milion: A literal million layered shield that can absorb attacks. Should Madara try to aim for the back, it won’t end well for him.

Paralyzing Bakudo’s: Immobilizes Madara’s movements for a time, though he could maybe substitute out

Teleportation: Aizen’s teleportation grants him superior movement and battlefield control against base Madara, making his attacks unpredictable

Raikoho/Paralysis: With an electrical blast, Aizen can stun and paralyze Madara for a few moments, allowing him to get a clean hit in, or maybe a few

Adaptation: The Hogyoku grants Aizen impressive evolutionary potential, allowing him to adapt to Madara’s strategies and abilities mid fight

Regeneration: When the soul’s body crumbles, they turn into Reishi particles. In the anime, Aizen’s body completely disintegrates after being hit by Mugetsu, and he could still reform his body, meaning his regeneration is on the atomic level. Madara has no way to get around this level of regeneration, and it’s easily Aizen’s biggest advantage in the fight.

Kurohitsugi: Madara can grab TSB’s just fine and scales to Naruto who kicked one away without suffering side effects. Like Kurohitsugi, TSB’s atomize and destroy space. However, it’s gravity manipulation isn’t something Madara counters, as he’s never suffered gravity manipulation from the Deva Path, and his Deva Path AP feats < Kurohitsugi’s gravity feats, as it’s above Aizen in AP

Time stop: Aizen can freeze time, which definitely sounds like a game changer...except for the fact that he can only freeze it for a certain area (like, a dozen meters at most), making it not the most reliable technique out there. He also needs to keep his hands close for it to remain active, which isn’t ideal in a fight scenario

Hakufuku/Sleeping hax: A bunch of Jonin during the Chunin Exams were resistant were resistant to Kabuto’s sleeping hax, meaning Madara, who’s far above them, likely can resist similar abilities as well

Soul Crush: Only works if Aizen is >>> Madara and his clones in AP. Even without equal stats, they should be relative enough, making this useless. Should work on the summons doe

Hado 99: Susanoo resists absorption abilities, making these dragons, as cool as they are, only really useful for offensive measures..

Kyokko invisibility: Sharingan users can see the flow of Chakra, which again, is spiritual energy, much like Reiryoku, allowing him to sense him.

Kyoka Suigetsu: The big game changing mind hax...that can’t do anything. As CSK mentioned in his verdict above, Kyoka Suigetsu is...eerily similar to Orochimaru’s Living Corpse Reanimation. A Genjutsu not reliant on the energy/Chakra flow of a target, creates multiple illusions from the target’s senses, etc. And a base Sharingan from Sasuke nulled this shit. Even if we argue Aizen’s KS bypasses layers, given how Sasuke’s Rinnegan (and Madara’s too) protected him from the mind hax of the Infinite Tsukuyomi, which again, mind haxxed the illusionary resistances of Killer B, on top of having various other Sharingan users resisting stronger mind hax (Itachi vs Sasuke is literally both of them layering Genjutsu on top of each other), leads me to believe Madara can resist this

What’s the result of this?

Looking at all their abilities, while Aizen definitely has some abilities Madara can’t counter, Madara has more of that, and his abilities are better overall for this fight. Multiple mind hax that bypasses layers, a huge numbers advantage, a size advantage, etc. Aizen’s regeneration can keep him in the game, as well as his adaptation and teleportation, but that’s not really gonna save him when Madara has mind hax on a planet wide scale, meaning Aizen is gonna get hit by it no matter what. This is without getting into the nonsense of Tsukuyomi, which I think just seals it for Madara. Let’s paint it like this

Aizen is going to have to simultaneously fight 30 Madara’s with comparable stats, 4 of which he can’t see, all of which have mind hax that can end the fight instantly, and ALL OF WHICH have 15 minutes of immortality at minimum. They don’t even need to do the hand signs to cast it, as Madara can just use a transcription seal so it can automatically activate, and there’s no reason the clones can’t do the same. Madara easily has enough resources to wear Aizen done and give him da spooky stare, even with just Tsukuyomi

It’s without a doubt the closest fight of the season, and it wouldn’t surprise me if Aizen won the episode. However, at the end of the day, I believe Madara Uchiha’s raw versatility, superior illusionary prowess, massive numbers advantage, and bullshit immortality should net him the win in a close battle

Thanks to everyone who made this the best blog I’ve ever been a part of. It was an honor to work on this

Hyperstarman

(These past two weeks in a nutshell)

Heyo been a while but back for another verdict. This season has been quite eventful. We’ve had some big reveals and shocking surprises for better or for worse. I’ve enjoyed this season for the most part and it’s been a ride, with diocard being a huge highlight for me. But the season is nearing the end with the season finale on the horizon, we’ll be in for a ride for whatever that may be (insert unfunny it could colex meme). However we still have the grandiose penultimate episode of anime's biggest villains, Madara vs Aizen. Being real, I had no stake in this match personally but two people had always brought to my attention constantly for years (the two people above me with longest verdicts in this blog) And they’ve slowly but surely drawn me to the match for years and kinda rediscovered my interest in both series with me recently learning how bleach was my first anime and some fond memories of Naruto I had back in the day (and reminding me how goated storm games are like wow) So ye, I can say for sure I’m looking forward to this and hoping it’s at least on par with GB vs RF and Diocard, it’d feel fitting for those three episodes getting that treatment.

(Watch four people attempt to comprehend naruto and bleach stats/abilities)

Now let’s get into the debate and oh boy is it a doozy. This is one of the more hotly debated ones that I’ve seen in a while and no matter the winner, there will most definitely be some contention from either side and being fair, this is one of the closest matches out there and definitely the closest for this season. I can see cases for either side but this is what myself and others take on the match and I can understand if you don’t agree with everything said here. So with that out of the way, let's discuss stats first. Ap for both is a bit up in the air with there high ends having a ton of contention (I’ve known that for two years for how all over the place both are) here and there which was addressed earlier (regarding cosmic bleach and large planet naruto) so to keep things simple I’ll put them at the safest option possible and say both are about planet via upscaling from BASE FORM NARUTO and Yhwach though for Madara the feat in question is about small planet while Aizen is baseline planet so Aizen would have a slight strength advanatage. (Quick note on Aizen scaling to Yhwach, it can be argued to 3x planet because he affected 3 realms but you can only prove for certainty he’s sustaining the Soul Society. So soul king sustains 1 planet, if the planet goes, the soul flow finishes off the other 2 *Credit to arc7 for the translation.) For speed Madara, he massively upscales from lesser characters like Orochimaru who are FTL via reacting to lasers. Aizen on the other hand is around rela + from being on par with Hikone who can move so fast, it causes time dilation which while impressive, madara is still much faster in that regard to the point of blitz territory. So while Aizen is probably slightly stronger, he still falls greatly short in speed giving Madara a huge edge on that field.

But stats for once aren’t the most important element in this debate. Cause the name of the game is abilities and hax and oh BOY the list these two have sure is something, so instead of going through that mess of a copypasta (others have already in their verdicts so check those out), I’ll be focusing on the major abilities that will help bring a decisive victory for one em. So one important element that’s a key factor in this match is Madara’s chakra and Aizen’s reishi/reiryoku. Both have a massive amount of reserves that let them use a plethora of abilities from illusions to time manipulation, and are able to sustain them for months in battle. Now originally I had planned to go in depth with one certain ability to help guarantee the win for one of them, but updates came along and I don’t really agree with that win-con now which is a very common theme with this match that makes sooooooooo much easier on us. I will however still list it as a major advantage as it still helps in the long run. The ability in question is the Preta Path in which Madara is able to absorb chakra from others to help sustain himself and continue to use his justus and other abilities. Though you may ask, how could Madara take Aizen’s energy, he is just a walking soul and uses a different energy source separate from chakra after all. Well you see, while Madara may not be able to directly take energy from Aizen himself as he resists that, he can however draw energy from his attacks because they leave his body and be left open to be taken. Chakra is physical and spiritual energy and has several instances of it relating to souls. So he should be able to absorb most on coming attacks as reishi contains spiritual energy. While it does help, Aizen isn’t dumb enough to fall for that sorta trick and will switch up his strategy to stop feeding him energy. So what’s left, both are able to harm one another with their relative AP, however Madara does have numbers edge in being able to summon multiple clones at once all with their own susanoo, just like what he did against the 5 Kage. But it’s not that simple as Aizen can regen from Reishi molecules, even with the numbers advantage, he still falls slightly short of his AP and would need a massive edge in that field in order to completely atomize him which he can’t. So Madara can’t kill Aizen, so then doesn’t Aizen just take it from there? Well Madara is still plenty times faster with precognition on top of that. So it’d be unlikely for him to land something fatal even with the slight AP gap, especially when Madara has his own regen which while not as potent, can still heal a great amount of damage taken from him. Then what’s left, outlasting is out of the question since both can fight for months on end and getting into specifics on who lasts exactly more would be way too specific of a win-con and non reliable. This basically just leaves us in a stalemate situation where neither can really kill one or the other. So what now.

Well there is one last thing that helps turn the tide to definitive winner which I was really hesitant on for a good while but after thinking about it, it still ends the fight at the end of the day and gives a definitive winner. While it is true that neither can kill the other, they don’t necessarily have to in order to end the fight for good. I’m talking about Madara’s assortment of mind based hax that come from Rinnegan Genjutsu, Tsukuyomi and Infinite Tsukuyomi. Aizen has shown no resistance to mental based attacks and would be susceptible to it. Madara would eventually go for, either through running out of options or through his use of the Human Path. While he can’t rip out Aizen’s soul, Aizen is a walking soul given his nature as a Shinigami so all Madara has to do is touch him to read his mind and know to go for that. With the knowledge on hand and the speed to pull it off, Madara has exactly what he needs to incapacitate Aizen for good and end this extremely hard fought battle in the long run. While typically every other scenario ends in death for these sorta vs matches, this still counts as ending the battle with one person left standing as the winner. I was debating on using this for Madara’s victory for a while but at the end of the day, it is a win-con that permanently stops Aizen for good even if it doesn’t kill him. But can I just say, I did not in a million years anticipate me being the deciding verdict for this matchup. The one I was always on the sidelines for and have been more of a spectator for years with phantom and cyber, but it coming down to my vote. I find it really amusing but also incredibly nerve racking, especially with how certain people in the bleach community act towards people. But at the end of the day, this is all for fun, and it’s been a wild ride to follow this match for years on end. It’s coming to an end real soon and I’d like to thank phantom and cyber for taking me on this wild and crazy ride, along with all the lads who helped on blog who made this a real fun time. And with that said, I’m out.

Editor's Note:

Thank you everyone for reading the blog. This blog was a huge undertaking by the G1 DEATH BATTLE Fan Blog community and I would like to thank everyone in the discord chat for discussing this fight for the last 2 weeks and going into as much detail as we have. This has been one of the most anticipated matchups this Season and I hope that we have done it justice :D. We at the G1DBFB can’t wait till the full episode and no matter what the fallout is and if our verdict lines up with DEATH BATTLE or not I hope things will remain respectful in the comments below. :D

Now with that look forward to the DEATH BATTLE Season 8 Finale. We don’t know what it is as of writing this blog but I am sure it is going to be hype. After the Finale blog we are probably going to take a break till Season 9 starts due to Christmas and other factors but we will definitely be back for S9 when it comes out so look forward to that.

With that, I bid you all a farewell and happy holidays.

    2. They ignored TYBW Aizen. Hilarious biased call right there

    3. @The Grandmaster

You clearly didn't read the entire thing if you think they skipped TYBW Aizen cuz there was some Yhwach scaling and other feats from that arc in the feats and stats section.

    4. I will be honest they didn't properly research Yhwach himself.

    5. Bleachfanboys talk like Aizen beat Yhwach lmao. He didn't even beat him so he not directly scales to himé

      Delete
    6. he doesnt beat him, but he downscales from him

      Delete
    7. Even if he downscales from Yhwach, wouldn't that be similar to Madara being downscaled from Kaguya? The two should be still pretty equal to each other in most areas.

  4. You covered most of the bases but there's some critical details that needs to be mentioned. The Ten Tailed Beast will attempt stealing control from it's host. If their will getting notably low. Also Aizen defeated his former captain who can reverse sight. Aizen also used a powerful Hado on himself in an attempt to escape the chair. Both he and the chair was fine, it killed eyeball creatures from Yhwach with all the surroundings. Aizen also defeated another captain using Black Coffin using 1/3 of it's overall power. Madara's using a lot more energy isn't a smart play against someone like Aizen. On two occasions, Aizen stood still while someone got too close to him. First was a human who got crushed to death. The last was a shinigami, not a soul reaper whose both his hands got destroyed. There's no known limit to Aizen's regeneration either. Aizen also has a little over two hundred years worth of experience. Now that's more than double Madara's life span including a very short second life. Not to mention, Aizen can still move between plains of existence excluding Hell. In theory, he shouldn't have a problem getting inside Madara's dimension. Aizen also was smart enough to alter one of his servants. In order to seal Yamamoto's bankai, which was stated if left unchecked can destroy any plain of existence. We don't know if this applies to Hell as well. Considering Uchiha's eye sight would make Madara more vulnerable to Aizen's powers. Even the captains themselves tried to prevent eye contact. Although it also stated if Aizen previously affected you, it's guarantee to work on you again. By that point, it's virtually impossible to counter.

    3. This entire blog downplayed Aizen so badly, it is like taking Tony Stark's Armor away from him even though he is "Iron Man". I am done reading these prediction blogs as of now.

It's not like they are were not using Kyoka Suigetsu or Hogyoku for Aizen so idk how that compares to IRon Man not having his suit.
What di you want? A Complex Multiversal Aizen or some bs like that?
Or exactly how was he downplayed?

  6. Very solid well resarched blog but given stuff like Sassuke Vs Hiei, Kakashi Vs Obi-Wan, I feel like their is a solid chance Death Battle will ignore most of their abilities for some reason.

I wonder if Death Battle is going to pull another "No, since Kaguya used other energy to destroy the planet Madara can't be planet level" which gave us the Sasuke Vs Hiei verdict.

Though given the researchers and DB's track record I wouldn't be shocked that even if Madara wins they're gonna pull something that downplays the feats in this series.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. To be fair, Hiei does have abilities and powers that are nearly perfect for countering nearly every best trump card's Sasuke has, and Obi Wan Kenobi's force powers are powerful and versatile enough to overwhelm Kakashi, so I don't really see the issue with those results. While I can see Madara winning, Aizen still has a pretty good chance of pulling through here as well.

Of course, Death Battle doesn't always do the best results on why a character win's (though neither does the blog on a few occasions). That's something that has been going on for years now, so we shouldn't be too annoyed by it.

      Delete
    2. The issue is that Sasuke stomps hiei in every stat, especially with the Yottaton-level calc in this new episode. Hell even the guy responsible for sasuke vs hiei's result admitted he was wrong

      Delete
    3. The problem with that isn't with the stats, it's that Hiei has near perfect counters to all of the best abilities and powers Sasuke had, which were the most important things he had going for him to win here. If Hiei didn't have those counters, I'm pretty sure Sasuke would have won the fight.

As far as I know, Sasuke doesn't even stomp stat wise. I'm not really a fan of both series, but from I know of both characters best feats and scaling, as well as what others say on the matter, Sasuke's are arguably more dubious and questionable then the ones Hiei has, so I can't see him stomping in the stat's department.

Where did this "guy" say he was wrong about the results?

      Delete
    4. @KamiZephyr Even if Sasuke had the stats in his favor. He still would be at a disadvantage because of Hiei's advantages.

  7. Yea, disagree with outcome and the interpretation of the cosmology.

  8. A few things I noticed that the breakdowns seems to miss:

Madara has an endless reservoir of chakra to spam map-altering techniques, but it's noted that Edo Tensei zombies aren't as powerful as their flesh-and-blood selves (Madara being a partial exception due to the alterations Kabuto made, which he kept post-Rinne Rebirth reanimation).

The preview shows that Madara starts the fight as an Edo Tensei zombie, and Madara can't become the Ten Tails' Jinchūriki as an Edo Tensei zombie, and he can't just Rinne Rebirth himself back to life — he needed Nagato, and later Obito, to do it for him using the flesh-and-blood Rinnegan. This means that Madara should — but probably won't — be deprived of the feats and powers he displayed as the Ten Tails Jinchūriki, unless he's able to find a way to fully resurrect himself, summon the Ten Tails, and seal it into himself — or summon the Gedo Mazo and seal the Tailed Beasts into it before sealing it into himself.

The breakdown seems to assume that Madara's Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan grants him access to all Mangekyō Sharingan abilities — including Kotoamatsukami (unique to Shisui Uchiha) and Tsukuyomi (evidently unique to Itachi Uchiha — as even after taking Itachi's eyes, Sasuke wasn't shown to be able to use Tsukuyomi). Given that Obito and Kakashi weren't able to conjure Susanoo until after Obito got both his eyes back and his spirit possessed Kakashi to loan him his Mangekyō, the intent seems to be that in order to attain the Susanoo an Uchiha needs to have both their Sharingan (and by extension their Mangekyō abilities, which for Itachi are Amaterasu and Tsukuyomi) intact and matured to the Mangekyō stage.

Madara needed to absorb Senjutsu chakra from Hashirama in order to enter Sage Mode, and couldn't do so of his own accord. Since Hashirama isn't likely to be present during the fight, Madara shouldn't be able to use Sage Mode or its associated feats.

Madara can summon Kurama unless it's sealed inside a jinchūriki, but I didn't see Kurama listed among Madara's summons.

    1. As an addendum, I suspect the entry in the third databook that says Amaterasu and Tsukuyomi are needed to obtain the Susanoo is probably outdated... and yeah, that intel being outdated is confirmed by Chapter 464 — where Sasuke states that the Susanoo can only be used by those who have obtained the Mangekyō Sharingan in both eyes while making no mention of needing either Amaterasu or Tsukuyomi — and the fourth databook, which says that to attain the Susanoo the user simply has to manifest the Mangekyō Sharingan in both eyes.

    2. thats not exactly what the fourth databook says

  9. I don't have time to read all of this but I'm still fascinated by how complex this matchup is. This and Dio vs Alucard are two of the most interesting matchups in DB history, which s kind of ironic considering they're both in a season full of stomps. Can't wait to see how this turns out. Rooting Aizen, betting Madara

    ReplyDelete
  10. Very proud of helping out in this blog and the overall prediction for the fight was outstanding. Truly one of our best in terms of hype and depth behind both characters.

While I want Aizen to win, it will be a Death Battle to remember. I can not wait for the fight, and amazing job everyone.

  11. What did you think of Madara vs Aizen in the blog and as the episode?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Very impressive research for both of these characters, one of the best I've seen so far on this blog. You guys didn't a fantastic job analyzing both of these great characters and their abilities.

As for the fight, definitely one of those matchups where it can go either way, depending on how you interpret the combatants and their powers. I'm betting Madara will pull through given his overall better eye abilities, numbers advantage, and versatility. However, I can see Aizen pulling a win here given his own advantages like greater arsenal, mobility, and range.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I thought Madara was just going to stomp, but it turns out we got an actual fight on our hands. Between this and Grey Vs Esdeath, the anime fights seem to end up the closest.

The season finale is going to be absolutely awful. When I first heard that it was Popeye vs Saitama, I thought it was a joke. Popeye shitstomps, the characters have virtually nothing in common, they both have better opponents (I've always wanted Saitama to fight either Sentry or Korosensei. Even the cancerous Saitama vs Goku/Superman would be more understandable because people actually want it), it's just moronic all around. It'd be the worst match up of the season if it weren't for Akuma vs Shao Kahn and Macho Man vs Kool Aid Man.

I'm sorry if I'm being a pain in the ass right now, but I was so hoping we'd finally get Galactus vs Unicron. Oh well.

    1. What about fights like Dante vs Bayonetta, Strange vs Fate, Nightwing vs Daredevil, and Ganondorf vs Dracula? Those fights are all very close to the point where they can all go either way.

Yeah, I agree the next matchup is going to be pretty much Goku vs Superman level controversy, or something similar to that. Something tells me we're going to see another lot of flame wars in the comment sections here and in the Death Battle Fandom, regardless of who wins here. Should've made it Galactus vs Unicron like we were all expecting.

  15. By the way due to Popeye requiring spinach to even be on Saitama's level. I strongly felt because of that flaw alone, Saitama will win the season finale fight.

    1. You're really think Death Battle will not let Popeye having his Spinach? lmao

Death Battle use the characters at their maximal

Saitama don't know anything about the Spinach

Saitama will let Popeye use the Spinach cause he want to fight his ennemy at their maximum potential

Popeye is unbeatable when he use spinach

    2. Actually my point is Popeye likely get some spinach during the fight. Eventually Saitama going to speed blitz him. No but Popeye will make his one flaw more notable. A lot of stuff Popeye could do isn't going to affect Saitama. Inevitably, Popeye can do so much before Saitama lands a fatal blow.

  18. I'm not fully convinced that anyone on this research team has actually read a single chapter from either series to completion.
