Death Battle Predictions: Darth Vader VS Obito (2023)

"All is not lost; the unconquerable Will,

And study of revenge, immortal hate,

And courage never to submit or yield:

And what else is not to be overcome?"

- John Milton

Darth Vader, Fallen Jedi Knight and Dark Lord of the Sith from Star Wars.

Obito Uchiha, The Masked Sage and Shinobi Messiah’s Envoy from Naruto.

The battle between Light and Dark is one that seems to never end no matter how hard either side may fight. To some, even with the support of close allies and loved ones, the conflict may wear a person down until they lose all hope and become the very thing they sought to destroy. Specifically, these two would endure paradigm-shifting wars which led to them being tortured and corrupted both mentally and physically, such that even their faces would forever be hidden from the rest of the world. So, when locked in a climatic duel of the fates, which fallen hero of light will rise as the master? Will the Chosen One prove too much a Force for his adversary, or will the Akatsuki Leader turn his opponent into a Sharin-goner? Let’s steady our focus and see who will win in a DEATH BATTLE!

Before We Start…

In line with how Death Battle has generally treated Star Wars characters, feats will be drawn from both canonical sources as well as formerly canon ones that were retconned away as “Legends” when Disney bought the franchise. While both canon and Legends are being used, there were some sources that were non-canon even to Legends (occasionally branded as “Infinities”) and those won’t be taken into account.

For Obito, we will be drawing from the original manga, its anime adaptation (plus movies), the various canonical novels, and the Ninja Storm games, which tell the same story, but expand upon it slightly.

As an aside, the majority of our volunteers for this blog were much more knowledgeable on Star Wars than Naruto and thus were understandably a lot more focused on Vader’s side of things. As a result, Obito’s half of the blog unfortunately may not be up to our usual standards, nor the standards of the Vader side. However, we still appreciate the efforts of those who did work hard on getting it completed, and hope that any particular differences in level of detail are not too offputting.

Background

Darth Vader

Anakin is gone. I am what remains.”

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, there lived a young boy on the desert planet of Tatooine alongside his mother as slaves to the crime lord of the planet, Jabba the Hutt. This boy’s name was Anakin Skywalker and despite his rough background, he would be destined for greatness. That chance for something more would come when one day, he would cross paths with Jedi Knight Qui-Gon Jinn and his Padawan, Obi-Wan Kenobi, who were on the hunt for a certain Phantom Menace. Discovering the young Skywalker’s high Midi-Chlorian count, Qui-Gon believed Anakin to be the destined Chosen One who would bring balance to the Force. As such, he would free Anakin from slavery and make it his goal to train the young Skywalker as his next Padawan. However, Qui-Gon’s chase for the Phantom Menace would sadly end in his untimely demise and thus, Obi-Wan would take it upon himself to train the young Skywalker to honor his fallen master.

Eventually, when it was time for Anakin to become a Jedi Knight, life for him took a turn for the worst. He would go back to Tatooine and discover that his mother died at the hands of Tusken Raiders and through Obi-Wan, would discover that Qui-Gon’s old master, Count Dooku, would lead an army of droids alongside his unknown master, Darth Sidious, starting what would be known throughout the galaxy as the Clone Wars. Thankfully, with the help and support from his childhood crush and soon-to-be wife, Padmé Amidala, and a secretly commissioned army of clones, Anakin would rise to the occasion and become a general to fight back against the new Separatist army.

Unfortunately, as the war continued to wage, Anakin’s doubts and misgivings towards the Jedi Council continued to grow inside of him. As per Jedi customs, Anakin was forced to remove all attachments he had and thus, he wasn’t allowed to marry Padmé officially and had to keep his marriage a secret. Secondly, the Jedi Council would not only keep secrets from Anakin, but also make judgements that infuriated him, such as their rejection of gifting Anakin the title of Jedi Master, and the expulsion of Anakin’s Padawan, Ahsoka Tano, from the Jedi Order. All of this would come to a head when Anakin would have a dream that foretold Padmé's death during childbirth. Desperate for a way to save his wife, he would discover that the Sith Lord that Count Dooku served under was actually Sheev Palpatine, the Chancellor of the Galactic Republic. By manipulating Anakin’s anger and fear through the Dark Side of the Force, the Jedi Knight known as Anakin Skywalker would be gone and in his wake would emerge the Dark Lord of the Sith, Darth Vader.

Alongside the Emperor, he would take part in Order 66, a secret directive given to the Clone Army which turned every clone against the Jedi and caused the near extinction of the entire Jedi Order. Inevitably, Vader would come face to face with his old master Obi-Wan on the lava planet of Mustafar, and have one climatic duel of the fates. Ultimately, Obi-Wan won the day as he sliced off most of Vader’s limbs and watched as his fallen pupil seemingly burned to death. However, Vader’s hatred helped push past the pain and after being saved by his new master, Vader was given a new enhanced body and for the next 20 years, would serve under the Emperor in the newly formed Galactic Empire. Through his Inquisitors, Vader would hunt for any Jedi that had survived the purge as well as lead the Empire against the growing insurgency known as the Rebellion. He would even come face to face with many ghosts of his past such as Ahsoka and even Obi-Wan. But no matter whoever he came across with again, his destiny was forever warped by the Dark Side of the Force.

Sooner rather than later, the Empire would construct their ultimate weapon, the Death Star, a moon-sized battle station that was so powerful, it could wipe out entire planets in just one shot. With a weapon as powerful as this, Vader and the Empire would’ve been unstoppable had it not been for the Battle of Yavin, where a ragtime team of rebels lead by the newly recruited Luke Skywalker would take advantage of a weak point in the Death Star’s design and destroy it. Fascinated by the young Skywalker’s proficiency with the Force, he would eventually deduce that Luke was the son of Anakin Skywalker. Yes indeed, Vader was Luke’s father.

With this knowledge in mind, Vader would attempt to bring his son over to the Dark Side and overthrow the Emperor. But no matter how many times Vader tried to turn Luke against the Light, Luke’s perseverance would prove to challenge Vader time and time again. Their fates would clash one last time during the Battle of Endor on board the second Death Star where Luke would not only have to face the Emperor for the fate of the galaxy, but also persuade his father to let go of his hate and rejoin the Light. It was during the moment where the Emperor nearly killed Luke that Vader rebelled against his master in an act of love for his son, killing him for good (Or at least we thought he did), and helping Luke and the Rebellion defeat the Empire once and for all. Sadly, Vader’s final encounter with Palpatine damaged his suit beyond repair and before he became one with the Force, he would ask Luke to help him get one last look at his son with his own eyes. Even after all the death and destruction Vader had caused, a piece of Anakin still remained, fulfilling the ancient Jedi prophecy in finally bringing balance to the Force.

He was always the Chosen One, as Qui-Gon expected.

Obito Uchiha

"There is no such thing as peace in this world, that is reality. And reality is like this grand river, no matter how hard one tries to stop it, reality will swallow them whole and mercilessly crush them... but there is one way to escape from this suffering... the Infinite Tsukuyomi, Project Tsuki No Me."

Born in Konohagakure during a time of peace, Obito Uchiha’s life was anything but ideal. Growing up without knowing who his parents were, and only having his grandmother to care for him, Obito felt truly alone in this world. However, that loneliness filled the young Uchiha with a dream: Become Hokage so that his existence would be acknowledged. To this end, Obito enrolled at the Academy in Konoha, where he met two of the most important people in his life, Kakashi Hatake, who he developed a one-sided rivalry with, and Rin Nohara, the girl he would fall in love with. The three of them would eventually be placed onto Team Minato together, under the leadership and tutelage of Minato Namikaze, the Fourth Hokage.

Having the Hokage as his mentor gave Obito a great deal of motivation to follow his dream, though Kakashi’s prodigious success as a ninja made Obito work relentlessly to both garner Rin’s attention and prove he was as capable as Kakashi. Through many tests and trials with his team, Obito began to learn the vital lessons of teamwork and friendship, however, Kakashi would always be one step ahead of Obito, something he wasn’t fond of in the slightest. However, before Obito could be too absorbed by this, the Third Shinobi World War broke out, forcing all of them into the conflict.

It was during this massive conflict that Rin was captured. Under Kakashi’s leadership, Rin was to be abandoned in favor of completing the mission. Enraged that Kakashi would sacrifice a friend’s safety over completing a mission successfully, Obito went out on his own, reprimanding Kakashi as being worse than trash for abandoning his friends. However, this ended up strengthening their friendship, as, together, they were able to rescue Rin, but not before Kakashi lost an eye, and Obito sacrificed himself to ensure Kakashi survived. Obito bequeathed one of his Sharingan to Kakashi as a final parting gift. Officially, Obito Uchiha died that day.

However, in reality, Obito had been rescued by order of an ancient member of his clan, Madara Uchiha. Obito’s kindhearted nature implored him to hear out the old man’s pleas for help, but Obito wanted nothing more than to return to his friends. Unfortunately, when Obito did return, he witnessed Rin’s death at Kakashi’s hand. Now feeling truly alone in this world, Obito pledged himself to Madara’s wishes, and with it, Obito had been fully consumed. He was driven by his newfound mission of creating an ideal world for everyone, one free of suffering. In order to move the plan forward, Obito assumed Madara’s identity and began to line up all the pieces.

The Eye of the Moon Plan culminated in the Fourth Shinobi World War, where Obito, and those he had allied with, had gathered most of the Tailed Beasts. They were on the precipice of achieving their goal. At this time, Madara had been reanimated, and later restored to life, which coincided with Obito’s survival becoming known to those who had dearly missed him. While Obito felt the pull of both his mentor and his rival to return to the kind hearted boy he once was, Obito tried to push everyone away, brought about the revival of the Ten-Tails, and soon after, sealed the legendary creature inside him. However, despite this immense power, Obito was defeated by the unlikely duo of Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha, and in the afterglow of his defeat, realized Naruto was just like him: a ninja filled with dreams of becoming Hokage, to be seen for who he truly was. This moment was the return of Obito Uchiha.

Obito vowed to end the war before it was too late, betraying Madara. However, his betrayal had been expected, and Madara revealed how he orchestrated Obito’s fall from grace, including that he was responsible for Rin’s death. Having lost the Ten-Tails’ power, Obito couldn’t stop Madara from casting the Infinite Tsukuyomi. When Obito awoke, he discovered Madara was gone, and in his place was Kaguya Ōtsutsuki, the progenitor of chakra. With their backs against the wall, Obito knew what he had to do, echoing his previous sacrifice for Kakashi and Minato's sacrifice for Naruto, Obito sacrificed himself to save both Naruto and Kakashi’s lives. Even in the afterlife, Obito was worried Kakashi would do something stupid, so Obito’s spirit temporarily inhabited Kakashi’s body, allowing him to aid in the battle against Kaguya. While he lived most of his life believing all that existed in this world was misery and pain, Obito’s last moments helped pave the road for a better, brighter future.

He truly was the coolest guy.

Experience & Skill

Darth Vader

Lightsaber Forms

Regarding Vader’s particular lightsaber forms, as Anakin Skywalker his favored style was Djem So, and Dooku even stated he was one of the finest practitioners of the form he had witnessed. Later, Vader would refine his use of Djem So, by incorporating techniques from Ataru, Soresu, Makashi and others, according to Starkiller. Vader could alternate between his forms freely, and even displayed proficiency in Juyo. Early in his time as Darth Vader, after his immolation on Mustafar, Vader was capable of defeating two Jedi Knights who were able to alternate between their styles consecutively, for he had practiced all forms of combat. Beginning with Djem So, this style of combat is an aggressive form that accentuates physical strength, lightsaber swings, and transforming defense into offense. Ataru is another lightsaber style that utilizes acrobatics, alongside the Force to amplify their movements. It is considered the fastest and most agile form of light saber combat

Soresu is a form which depends foremostly on defensive techniques, and a master of Soresu can become so proficient that they are effectively invincible. During the time of the Clone Wars, it was said no master of Soresu had ever been defeated. Makashi is the ultimate form of lightsaber to lightsaber combat, and has produced some of the greatest duelists in history. They developed unique techniques, and trained to prevent themselves from becoming disarmed. Juyo is the most advanced form of lightsaber combat, for it requires mastery of multiple other forms before it can be utilized. It is the most aggressive style, using even greater energy than Djem So, and utilizing erratic and unpredictable maneuvers. As a Sith, Vader has a particular advantage with this form, as it is further amplified by his Dark Side emotions

Applied Techniques

During the Clone Wars era, when he was still Anakin Skywalker, he was stated to be the most powerful and skilled Jedi of his era and perhaps all eras. Vader himself, despite being a Sith lord for a short time, was stated by Sidious to have become the most skilled Sith in history. A Jedi Padawan who engaged Vader in a duel described the experience as similar to fighting a droid who was programmed to counter all her best stratagems. Vader was also more skilled than the Imperial Guards, a group of fanatical warriors who were trained in every conceivable form of hand to hand combat, and he even decisively defeated one of them despite him having been described displaying perfect technique. In other instances, he had fought a woman who was described having amplified reflexes and moving at preternatural speeds, defeating her without igniting his lightsaber

In regard to other displays of swordsmanship, Vader commonly practiced with and destroyed droids which possessed the accumulated knowledge of a hundred swordmasters, and knew a dozen different fighting styles. His defensive techniques were so effective that Starkiller thought his guard was impenetrable, and for hours he could not strike true on Vader once, despite himself being able to fight against and defeat PROXY, who was programmed with the dueling style of Obi-Wan Kenobi, the definitive master of Soresu. Another module that PROXY had been programmed with was Anakin Skywalker, who Starkiller did not find particularly challenging, further implying that Vader had long surpassed his previous state as a lightsaber duelist. This is later confirmed when Vader in his duel with Obi-Wan is stated to have become even stronger than he had been during his zenith during the Clone Wars Era. Vader has even defeated a clone of himself which possessed all his knowledge in the Force and lightsaber combat

Within Disney Canon, Vader tasked Tarkin to hunt him down, and over the course of eight days he was able to devastate Tarkin’s strike force. After Tarkin considered a thousand different strategies to kill Vader, he lured him into a lightning bolt to force his suit to fail. However, even after doing so, Vader was still alive and emerged victorious. He was able to single handedly defeat an army of rebel soldiers, and do battle against a Jedi Master who had trained his entire life for the sole purpose of fighting, while severely weakened.

Skill Scaling

Through the course of his life, Vader had become one of the most powerful Sith Lords to ever exist, and mastered multiple forms of lightsaber combat. Even as Anakin Skywalker, he had more combat experience than most of the masters, and when he became Darth Vader, he was one of the greatest Jedi killers in history. Among the array of opponents he has defeated, a notable example among them is Count Dooku. Dooku was widely considered to be one of the greatest lightsaber duelists in the Jedi Order, and he was so proficient that he was one of the only two in history to ever defeat Mace Windu in lightsaber combat. Dooku was also the mentor to General Grievous, who himself was skilled enough to best multiple Jedi masters simultaneously, and his cybernetic enhancements gave him further advantages such as real time battle analysis. Grievous could observe and instantaneously adapt to any form of lightsaber combat, and was even able to begin imitating Vaapad despite this being an impossibility, due to the nature of Form VII requiring mastery of multiple other forms, and Vapaad in particular being an advanced variant of it that manipulates the Dark Side of the Force. This ability intimidated Windu to a point of resorting to the Force to end their battle immediately.

Even more impressively, Windu was capable of defeating Darth Sidious in a duel, who had mastered all forms of lightsaber combat. When Palpatine, as an apprentice, fought alongside his master Plagueis, the two Sith were capable of defeating a collection of hundreds of skilled warriors.

He is superior to his apprentice Starkiller, who had been capable of imitating Obi-Wan Kenobi’s proficiency with Soresu to erect an impervious defense against the attacks of Rahm Kota, a rogue Jedi master.

Choreographer Nick Gillard stated that he would rank Jedi and Sith on a scale of 1 to 10 in regard to their lightsaber proficiency. He also describes this scale as not linear, but each number is a logarithmic increase in a similar manner to the Richter scale. Within this skill, Obi-Wan is an 8, while Anakin, Yoda, and Sidious are at a 9. And this was prior to Anakin becoming Darth Vader.

Obito Uchiha

Like many kids in his generation, Obito has been trained to be a ninja from a young age and graduated from Konoha’s ninja academy when he was 9 years old. Two years later, the young Uchiha was able to reach the rank of Chunin despite having average skills during his time as a Genin. It didn’t take long for Obito and his teammates to be drafted into the Third Shinobi World War, and he wasn’t even a Jonin at the time. He’d later receive further training under Madara Uchiha after being rescued by him from near death during the war, improving his prowess to such a point that he was mistaken for the actual Madara. Obito would follow through with Madara’s Infinite Tsukuyomi plan after the latter’s first death, capturing the nine Tailed Beasts and personally starting the Fourth Shinobi World War through his manipulations of the Akatsuki and the Ninja World.

Obito murdered members of the Uchiha Police Force when he assisted Itachi in massacring the Uchiha Clan and collected their eyes for his personal use. Just like Madara back in his fight with Hashirama, Obito’s genjutsu is strong enough to take full control of the Nine-Tailed Fox Kurama as well as the Fourth Mizukage. Even though he didn’t make out unscathed, Obito was still able to fight on part with the Fourth Hokage Minato Namikaze and the Akatsuki member Konan on separate occasions in only just his base form. He later fought on par with Might Guy, Kakashi Hatake, and KCM Naruto Uzumaki all at once after retrieving Nagato’s Rinnegan. During the climax of the Fourth Shinobi World War, Obito was able to overwhelm not only the first three Hokage but also stronger versions of Naruto and Sasuke after becoming the Ten-Tails Jinchūriki.

Equipment

Darth Vader

Lightsaber

The staple weapon of almost all Jedi and Sith, it uses a blade of pure energy to slice and dice through almost every material imaginable. In Legends material, Sith lightsabers are energized by a synthetic crystal, engineered instead of naturally occurring, giving it its red look compared to the blue, green, and purple blades of the Jedi. In canon, naturally occurring Kyber crystals are corrupted and ‘bled’ through passionate negative emotions, bending the crystal to the Dark Side user’s will. A lightsaber, and the crystal therein, is deeply personalized to its wielder on an individual level, acting as an extension of the wielder’s awareness in the Force during combat and meditation. The lightsaber contains a connection to the Living Force, and the Sith are capable of wielding more powerful crystals that can “destroy” Jedi lightsabers, and can wield them with no conscious thought. Additionally, although anyone could theoretically wield such a weapon, the potential of the lightsaber is only best actualized through being attuned to the Force itself, requiring rigorous training and enhanced senses to wield its capabilities correctly.

Vader’s lightsaber was intricately designed and modeled on the lightsaber he previously used as Anakin Skywalker, with a thick, ridged handgrip, high-output diatium power cell, dual-phase focusing crystal, and forward-mounted adjustment knobs. Such a lightsaber can deflect dozens of blaster bolts, absorb Force Lightning, and parry attacks from other lightsabers. Lightsabers like Vader’s own can reach temperatures comparable to those in the cores of stars, and using the Force, he can amplify the heat and power of his lightsaber even further, or even use multiple lightsabers at once if the need comes

Armored Life-Support Suit

After Anakin’s defeat at the hands of Obi-Wan on Mustafar, he was recovered from the shore of a lava flow and fitted into a suit of imposing black armor. This armor not only protects the Sith Lord in combat, but keeps Vader’s ruined body functioning through a built-in suite of life-support technology. After the injuries sustained during his near-fatal duel, many of his physical capabilities were severely diminished, such as his sight, hearing, and breathing. The suit’s various features address all of those disabilities. While Vader has to wear his suit to stay alive, it also follows a Dark Side tradition of Sith warriors adorning themselves in heavy armor.

Helmet and Mask

Vader presents an intimidating face to the galaxy, his mask’s skull-like appearance designed to strike fear into the hearts of his enemies. But his helmet is more than just scary: it’s practical, with a number of features to aid Vader both in combat and out. First things first, it’s incredibly durable. Cast from  durasteel and plasteel, the helmet’s both shock and shrapnel-resistant, and it’s even capable of partially deflecting energy bolts. The metal was further strengthened with Sith alchemy, which legend says can create “nearly indestructible” materials. The helmet attaches to the suit to create an airtight seal which protects Vader from atmospheric contaminants and lets him operate in outer space for up to an hour, comparable to a Class C spacesuit.

Vader’s helmet is like the Swiss Army Knife of headgear. Optical filters in the lenses of the mask both restore Vader’s weakened eyesight and display valuable environmental data over his vision, kind of like a video game HUD, and they also provide him with infrared and ultraviolet vision. Automatic eye shields protect him from intense bursts of light, environmental sensors track radiation, temperature, nearby bio-signatures, and atmospheric toxicity, and a voice synthesizer grants him his trademark James Earl Jones voice. With the audio enhancers and sonic dampers, Vader can both amp up his hearing enough to pick up whispers from 30 meters or totally tune out sound-based attacks, and the built-in communicator lets him keep in touch with allies even in the midst of battle.

Chest Armor and Collar

The heaviest, most durable part of Vader’s suit is his chest and shoulder armor. Like every other part of his armor, it’s multi-purpose, providing both impressive protection and a bevy of helpful secondary features. This large durasteel assembly contains some of his life-support systems - including an “air purging” system in the collar to protect him from toxins - and is tough enough to resist both blaster fire and energy blades with only superficial damage.

The collar/jaw assembly also contains the vocoder that picks up Vader’s weakened speech, as well as a number of mouth-operated switches that control his suit’s functions, including optical magnification. Yep, Vader has to control his suit with what’s basically a tiny piano he plays with his tongue. Oh, there’s also feeding straws in there that let Vader slurp on some delectable RepMed nutrient paste, which is stored in a special implanted bladder which needs to be regularly refilled. Legends lore, folks.

Computer and Belt

The most important device in Vader’s armor is the suit’s main computer, AKA the big box on Vader’s chest with all the cool buttons. Each one has its own unique function, such as “auto control,” “manual override,” and “system reset.” However, the computer mostly just controls, monitors and stores data on Vader’s life-support systems. Vader’s belt also has a number of buttons with their own features, including a temperature control option that can let him comfortably survive in both toasty and frosty environments. Vader’s life-support system requires regular charging, but he carries a spare power cell in his belt in case he ever runs out of juice, as well as a toolkit for simple repairs and a backup comlink.

An incredibly notable feature is that the suit can accept not just one kind of RepMed data wafer, but two, both the Ix44a size and the Ix44ax size. Obito can’t even accept one kind of data wafer, let alone two. Once a month, Vader reports to the Emperor Palpatine Surgical Reconstruction Center (EmPal SuRecon for short) to upload a copy of his latest diagnostics. If he’s ever caught in a situation where he only has one kind of data wafer on hand, his suit’s ability to accept not one but two sizes could prove life-saving.

Gloves and Boots

With his Force powers and lightsaber, Vader rarely gets into any kind of hand-to-hand martial arts conflict. But if he were to be caught without his blade, his tricked-out gloves and boots provide notable combat advantages. They’re crafted from durasteel and Mandalorian micronized iron weave, a material that can deflect anything short of a direct lightsaber blow. Vader’s gloves can catch blaster shots with no damage whatsoever, though his Force powers render the extra protection unnecessary.

For special features, Vader’s right glove is actually an authentic Mandalorian crushgaunt, equipped with circuitry that greatly increases the Sith Lord’s grip strength. Again, Vader doesn’t exactly need any extra help crushing throats, but it’s nice to have. Additionally, the soles of his boots are equipped with ferromagnetic cores that can be activated with that aforementioned tongue piano in the jaw of his suit. The magnetic field they produce is powerful enough to let Vader cling to starship hulls.

Bodysuit and Cape

Despite the rushed nature of Vader’s reconstruction, the droid team that put the Sith Lord together made sure that even his black bodysuit and cape each had their own special features. The bodysuit, while looking almost like leathery fabric, is actually made out of a layered material that’s fireproof, corrosion-resistant, blast-dampening, and even self-sealing. The inside of the bodysuit is lined with life-support sensors that monitor Vader’s vitals and feed the information to the chest computer, and has a heating unit to regulate suit temperature.

Aside from looking cool, the cape also has a number of practical features. It’s made out of armorweave, a tear-proof composite that’s substantially durable but also as light as cloth. In a pinch, Vader can swing the cape around to block plumes of flame or jets of acid, as it’s resistant against both kinds of damage. The tunic - that’s the cloth part that drapes over Vader’s chest armor - is also made out of armorweave, though a lighter kind.

Underneath the cape is Vader’s air-filtration unit, which draws in and purifies air for the Sith Lord to breathe, and also stores a reservoir of compressed air to allow him to survive for up to one hour in the vacuum of space. The cape not only keeps the filtration unit hidden and protected, but also keeps particulate matter from getting sucked into the filter.

Cybernetics

Vader isn’t just an evil psychic space samurai, he’s an evil psychic space samurai cyborg. He got his first cybernetics installed back during his Jedi days. After losing his arm (a Skywalker family tradition) in a battle with Count Dooku, he was fitted with a prosthetic replacement. He’d go on to lose not only his other arm, but both of his legs as well in his battle with Obi-Wan on Mustafar. During the intensive reconstruction process that turned him into Darth Vader, the former Jedi Knight was given three new prosthetics for a full set of cybernetic limbs. These cyborg replacements are stronger than his organic limbs, significantly improving Vader’s lifting and crushing strength.

The Dark Lord also received a number of other cybernetic enhancements. These mainly provide more stability to Vader’s heavy frame, such as artificial replacement bones, or are part of his life-support system, such as an artificial cardiac implant that replaces his heart, but some are more unique. These include a waste recycler that… well, recycles Vader’s waste (he literally pisses and shits himself and the suit sucks it up), and pain suppressors that dope Vader up with a special neurotoxin to lessen his perception of pain.

Electroripper Staff and Zaly Shield

After losing control over his Force abilities due to the Force Wave, Darth Vader devised a new tactic by diminishing his use of Force-related abilities, while simultaneously adopting a bespoke Electroripper staff of his own curation.

In semblance to the armament wielded by Enfys Nest in Solo, Vader's staff showcases a superlative-voltage energy filament adorning one terminus, alongside a kinetite charge gracing the opposing extremity. This allows for incapacitating voltage and metal-shredding cutting power. Such a configuration empowers the staff to discharge formidable surges of electrical energy, thereby instigating potent electrokinetic shockwaves. On one occasion, Vader wielded the staff with such electrifying prowess, he tore a starfighter asunder with the electrifying might of the implement.

Under the guidance of the audacious archaeologist Doctor Aphra, the Sith Lord was led to the sanctum of Zaly upon the celestial body of Ringo Vinda, wherein he obtained the coveted Zaly Shield. This shield, an exceptional artifact fashioned by the erudite Separatist scientist Dr. Istan Zaly, is meticulously forged from the pure essence of Kyberite—an elemental substance that serves as the genesis of Kyber crystals. Just as Kyber crystals bear an innate affinity to the Force, the Kyberite material possesses the remarkable faculty to converge and steer the forceful energies harnessed through the conduits of the Force. In a similar vein, the Zaly Shield exemplifies this extraordinary trait, enabling it to concentrate and harmonize the omnipotent forces channeled through it. Even bereft of Force intervention, the shield assumes a formidable and impervious defensive countenance, affording Vader resolute protection against an extensive array of assailants.

Obito Uchiha

Gunbai

While terrorizing the ninja world under the false identity of Madara Uchiha, Obito wielded a large folding fan known as the Gunbai Uchiwa (or just a Gunbai for short). Passed down in the Uchiha clan for generations, this giant fan is infamous as it was Madara’s main weapon in battle. Despite not being the real Madara, Obito is quite proficient with the gunbai. With it, he’s able to fight multiple opponents both offensively and defensively. As an Uchiha, Obito is naturally skilled in Fire-Style techniques and can further empower them with the gunbai’s ability to make small tornadoes. Additionally, the gunbai has the unique property of being able to convert receiving chakra into Wind-Style based techniques, allowing Obito to send an opponent’s jutsu right back at them.

Kusari

Chains that Obito uses to trap foes alongside his Kamui technique, leaving them open for powerful attacks. Obito has been shown at times to line these chains with paper explosives and detonate them once the opponent is ensnared.

Shuriken

One of the most commonly used weapons a shinobi carries with them is the shuriken, and Obito is no exception. These weapons are best effective as thrown projectiles and can be used for several purposes, such as distracting enemies or pinning them down. Of course, shurikens are capable of being lethal when thrown accurately at a short range, preferably towards exposed areas of the body. Shurikens can be used for close combat as well. In real life, there have been some cases of shurikens being used to partially disembowel people.

Other than regular shuriken, Obito does also carry the Fuma-Shuriken. It’s much larger and sharper than the average shuriken, making it a more lethal weapon. Due to its large size, the Fuma-Shuriken is very effective as a melee weapon. Obito in particular likes to spin the Fuma-Shuriken in one hand before directly stabbing an enemy with it.

Kunai

Another weapon commonly used by shinobi is the kunai. It’s basically a black dagger that can be used as both a melee weapon and a projectile. As a melee weapon, a kunai is designed for thrusting and stabbing. As a projectile, an explosive tag can be tied to the kunai, turning the weapon into a makeshift bomb that’ll detonate upon contact. Shinobi can empower kunai with their chakra, allowing it to cut through tougher material like stone and wood. Obito keeps kunai of various sizes in his Kamui dimension and would launch them at an opponent using Kamui in rapid succession.

Chakra Receivers

Shinobi who possess the Rinnegan gain the trademark ability to manifest thin black rods from their bodies known as chakra receivers. Despite looking thin, these chakra receivers are very durable and capable of piercing the human bodies, and they’re not actually made out of metal but instead chakra. As a result, the chakra is very versatile as tools and weapons. For one thing, Obito can generate the black rods from his palms and use them in melee combat. Not only that, but Obito can also adjust their size and shape as he likes to use Kamui to launch his chakra receivers as giant stake projectiles in order to pierce and pin down the Tailed Beasts. Speaking of which, for every chakra receiver that is touching a target, Obito can manifest chakra chains to bind them and restrain their chakra.

Another unique property of the chakra receivers is that Obito can use them to transmit his chakra and change its frequency to prevent other people from using the rods to trace him. As a result, he can disrupt the chakra of his opponents he stabs with the receivers, throwing them off their movement. If an enemy is stabbed with multiple chakra receivers, they become immobilized and can have their movements be potentially controlled by Obito unless they can resist it. By implanting small pieces of chakra receivers into 6 corpses, Rinnegan users like Nagato and Obito can reanimate them as their personal puppets and control their chakra. The only way to undo this is by simply removing the rods from the corpses.

Explosives

Obito has a large collection of paper explosives that he can use in a wide variety of ways. With the help of Kamui, he can warp multiple explosives around opponents, he can toss kunai at opponents with Paper Explosives attached to them, he can wrap them around his Kusari to detonate an opponent ensnared by them and he can simply attach them to the opponent themselves.

Masks

(That's what the point of the mask is.)

While going by the name Tobi, Obito concealed his looks with masks. His first one, a mask with one eyelet and prints resembling the Kyuubi, was worn during his attack on Konoha. His second, the iconic orange spiraling mask, was worn during his tenure in the Akatsuki. And finally, the white mask representative of the Infinite Tsukuyomi, was donned during the Fourth Great Ninja War. They don’t do much, but can be used for a nasty headbutt.

Sharingan Collection/Limb Stash

After assisting Itachi in the Uchiha Massacre, Obito would collect the eyes of his former clansmen and keep them in a hidden base for storage. While it’s unknown whether or not he can regularly access them, Obito would use these eyes as replacement in case he lost any of his own during battle. In addition, he also keeps a storage of Zetsu body parts for similar reasons, such as when he lost multiple limbs during his fight with Konan.

The Force

(Artwork by Twice)

The Force is a metaphysical, natural and spiritual presence. It manifests as an all-pervading invisible energy field that underpins all of creation, while concurrently binding its entirety. Within the confines of its expanse, the Force exists as a thing both within and without, limitless and sublime and wholly beyond comprehension, operating on an infinite scale. All aspects of the universe are contained with the Force. Universal balance-life and death, creation and destruction are all reflected in the Force, and thus reflected from the Force back into the galaxy at large. The Force also contains dualities, but transcends them entirely. It is above such concepts.

The Force exists within a higher plane, transcending space and time; flowing through the cause and effect of the past, present, and future attributed to infinite possibilities. The Force also extends throughout Hyperspace. Hyperspace being an "incomprehensible dimension", existing outside of ordinary time and space, and being composed of more than the three spatial and one temporal dimensions of realspace. When Barriss Offee used the Bota to achieve a form of Oneness with the Force, she was capable of sensing beyond three, even four dimensions, and understood that the universe was of an entire piece, each part connected to all the others, webbed together by vibrating strands of the Force that stretched through dimensions utterly beyond the ken of her senses.

Like most forms of energy, the Force can be manipulated, and it is the knowledge and predisposition to do so that empowers the Jedi Knights and the Sith. This is due to the fact the Force is accessible to all living beings through the presence of midi-chlorians in their cells. The more midi-chlorians inhabiting a being's cells, the more the being is able to connect to the Force. Some species are more attuned to the Force than others, and Anakin was created by the Force itself. To control the Force, one must be mindful of its three basic techniques: Control (the manipulation of one's internal Force strength), Sense (detection of the Force in the external world), and Alter (manipulation of matter through the Force).

The Force had long ago been broken down into four unique aspects: the Living, the Unifying, the Cosmic and the Physical Force.

The Living Force, otherwise known as the Anima, is generated by living beings. It allows Jedi to connect with the plants and animals that inhabit the world around them. It is the energy of all things that have ever lived. The Living Force is raw and close at hand. It is the life energy tingling around them as they pass among plants and animals in a walk through the jungle. When beings die, it is sensed through the Living Force. All tangible Force abilities are techniques from the Living Force. Jedi who believe in the tenets of the Living Force rely on their instincts and become attuned to the living things around them. They are mindful of the future and what might result from their current actions, but they remain focused on the present instead of allowing anxieties about the past and future to cloud their awareness. The energy of the Living Force feeds into the Cosmic Force. Abilities of the Body are drawn from the Living Force, emanating from the very cells and affecting the physical structures of others. Through the Living Force, certain Jedi are able to retain their identities after death, manifesting as Force spirits while still becoming one with the Force.

The Unifying Force, otherwise known as the Aperion, is a vast cosmic power. It is the stars and galaxies, the rippling surface of space and time. It is this voice that whispers destiny, allowing a Jedi to walk in the past or see the future, leaving their body behind. Through this, a Jedi can sense the past and the future. Thus, precognition is an aspect of the Unifying Force. Jedi who studied the Unifying Force understood that the future was constantly in motion, but sought to understand this motion and develop a sense of their place within it. Abilities of the Mind are also drawn from the Unifying Force. These operate on a different plane than the physical--they exist in the realm of thought and memory, allowing to induce their targets with visions of infinity. The Unifying Force dictates all physical phenomena; all of matter, all of gravity, all of electromagnetism, encompassing all of space and time, and much more.

The Cosmic Force, otherwise known as the Pneuma, is the wellspring from which the energy of the Living Force feeds into it, binding the galaxy and having a will of its own. A quintet of Force priestesses, ancient entities, were responsible for the bridging between the Living Force and the Cosmic Force. The Cosmic Force is a "unifying gestalt", a metaphysical vision of the entire galactic whirlpool and the threads that comprise all of reality. Midi-chlorians, which were birthed from the Wellspring of Life, are the foundation of what connects the Living Force and the Cosmic Force. Once a living being dies, all is removed. Life passes through the Living Force into the Cosmic Force and becomes one with it. One powers the other. One is renewed by the other. While the Living Force made one sensitive to other living beings, the Cosmic Force was more aligned with fate and destiny. Within the Cosmic Force, exists the World Between Worlds. A collection of pathways and doors between time and space. Whoever controls it, controls the universe. It is a Force Nexus and separate plane of existence, which can even be used to change fate.

The Physical Force is the facet of the Force that allows a Jedi to manipulate objects around them. Abilities from the Alter techniques are drawn from the Physical Force. It was possible to alter the Physical Force, merging items and objects into something entirely new. This facet complemented the Living Force and the Unifying Force. Jedi would learn to channel the power of the Physical Force for a more effective defense.

Due to his status as the Chosen One, Anakin’s connection to the Force is nearly unparalleled.

The Dark Side of The Force

The Dark Side of the Force is what all Sith channel. As opposed to the Light side of the Force, accessing the powers of the Dark Side involves tapping into raw emotions such as anger, fear, greed, and most powerful, hatred. By drawing energy from their aggression, a Sith can amplify their strength. By utilizing the Dark Side of the Force, it’s believed that it completely conquers and devours a person, turning someone into a shell of what they used to be. In addition, the Dark Side of the Force can grant Force users unique abilities some would consider ‘unnatural’, such as being able to manipulate life itself, twist both minds and souls, and even generate Force Lightning. The presence of the Dark Side could also prevent other Force Sensitives from perceiving the future, by obscuring their visions

Force Amplification

Force Amplification allows a Force Sensitive to augment the strength and speed of their physical body to perform feats that far exceed most sentient life in the galaxy. It could be used to enhance the strength of one’s strikes, or even push beyond the limits of physicality and disregard the effects of fatigue. Other Force Sensitives have used this ability to destroy combat droids with their hands, tear armor apart, and amplify physical strength in lightsaber duels. In more extreme instances, one could use the Force to grant a physical weapon the ability to clash against lightsabers, or hold fractured limbs together.

Force Speed

Force Speed, or Burst of Speed, is a technique which can be used to quicken a Jedi’s movement and reflexes, amplifying it to such a degree that opponents that could previously contend with the user appeared to be moving in slow motion. While Force Speed is activated, the user can move with such swiftness that they leave afterimages.

Force Jump

All Jedi possess the natural ability to perform leaps that far exceed the capabilities of typical sentient life. This power is known as Force Jump, and it can allow a Force Sensitive to leap distances several times their height, or even “glide” through the air for a brief period.

Force Rage

Force Rage is one of the more potent Dark Side abilities, which allows its user to amplify themself and their Force abilities by utilizing their rage and hatred. One of the most extreme exhibitions of this power was when Bane, who was bested by another apprentice at the Sith Academy moments earlier, gained a surge of power and used his anger to shatter his Force defenses, slaying him in an instant. In Battlefront 2. Vader uses his rage to gain extra health and reduce stamina exhaustion, reduce damage, and increase lightsaber damage.

Telekinesis

Vader’s most iconic application of The Force, it allows the Sith Lord to manipulate physical matter. This ability has various applications, and can be used to lift objects and move them through space, slam them down, or toss them through the air. True masters of this ability are thought to have unlimited power, and can hurl objects as large as entire starships.

Precision

Vader is quite precise with the Force. He has disabled and destroyed a bomb in someone's head, burst a person’s heart and is noted to be able to rip eyes from a head. Without much effort, he can rip off the helmet of a target without injuring the rest of his body. Xizor states Vader can stop hearts and lungs from working with the Force. He can even control the muscles of corpses to fire guns they were holding in mid combat, or force two Inquisitors to stab each other. He can also make/work on Holocrons, which requires making adjustments at the sub-atomic level, though this takes time and concentration. Being able to open a Holocron implies you are highly adept with the Force.

Vader is also capable of multi-tasking with the Force. Battlefront shows that Vader can Force choke while deflecting enemy fire and also throw his lightsaber at the same time. He can Force choke while also stopping objects being thrown at him. He’s also shown the ability to use telekinesis without hand movements, doing so while severely injured to kill Darth Momin, and using TK when pointing with his lightsaber against Luke on Cloud City. Lastly, Vader is able to use Force barriers in conjunction with other attacks, such as a push.

Force Push and Pull

Force Push and Force Pull are among the most fundamental and common techniques that are practiced by Force Sensitives. These techniques could be used to either repel others away from the user, or pull them forward and bring them into range of their lightsaber attacks. Pull could also be used to forcefully disarm an opponent. The power of these techniques could be controlled at the discretion of its user, with the most severe degrees essentially functioning as a powerful explosive projectile, or having the capability to tear a target apart where they stand. Force Sensitives such as Starkiller were so powerful that he could destroy entire TIE fighters with a single Force push

Force Repulse

Force Repulse is a destructive omni-directional blast of Force Energy, so potent it can vaporize those caught in its wave. Vader has access to a more powerful version of this technique named Force Maelstrom, which shields the user with an indestructible energy sphere while destroying their enemies with debris and bolts of lightning. Vader used Maelstrom in his battle with Starkiller on the Death Star

Force Grip

Also known as Force Crush or Force Choke within the story of Star Wars, one of the most effective and violent applications of the Force’s telekinesis is the Force Grip ability. With this technique, a Force Sensitive can reach out with the Force and use it to target internal organs, destroy the brain, pull out eyes, and crush the larynx to restrict an opponent’s breathing. A master of this ability could even crush their entire enemy, including any armor they may be donning, with Sidious commenting it could even destroy the hull of a star cruiser. Vader has used this ability to crush the heart of a Jedi, and other Force Sensitives have performed similar feats. As well as via this ability, Vader is capable of casually crushing heavy vehicles along with force fields they may have (while also performing other tasks, such as reflecting projectiles back).

Saber Throw

Saber Throw is yet another application of Telekinesis, and a difficult one to perfect. With this technique, a Jedi can toss their lightsaber through the air and have it return to their hand in the same motion. The masters of this technique were known as “Jedi Snipers”, and could utilize Saber Throw to dispatch targets from long distances. Vader has utilized this technique against Luke Skywalker, as well as Starkiller

Immovability

By utilizing Telekinesis, a Force Sensitive could become an immovable object, and withstand the push or pull of anything that attempts to shift them away from their position. Though it could be seen as hyperbolic, Immovability has been stated to turn you into the very essence of an immovable object - unable to be dislodged by Lando’s asteroid tuggers, Megador’s sixteen ion engines and a black hole at the center of the galaxy. Vader has used this technique to prevent himself from being pulled into the vacuum of space.

Within Disney Canon, Vader and Palpatine could both hold themselves in place with the Force, as their ship was being blasted away and tumbling for tens of kilometers.

Matter Control

A Jedi’s control of the Force requires them to be capable of precisely altering objects varying from the molecular scale, to even subatomic configuration of particles. It is implied that a Force user can wield this application of the Force offensively, and potentially atomize an opponent with their raw power. Jedi Padawans such as Jacen Solo were trained to manipulate molecules and transmute elements in their Force training. Through the Force power Art of The Small, a Force user can shrink their presence to that of an atom to gain unparalleled stealth capabilities, perceive the universe on a molecular scale, cure ailments, or construct proteins and rebuild cells.

Combustion

Combustion is another Force ability which operates by causing objects to explode and engulfing anything within its vicinity in the blast. This ability is also described as the user “exciting the molecules of combustible objects” to cause them to spontaneously burst aflame. Vader has used this ability to overload a Kyber crystal and destroy it. This ability could even be used to target the body.

Vaporization

Through unknown means, potentially heat based, Vader is capable of instantly vaporizing others with a gesture. Galen Marke has been able to do similar with Force Lightning and Repulses.

Non-Physical Interaction

Dark Side energy is capable of interacting with spiritual beings and destroying them. Other powerful Sith such as Exar Kun were capable of performing this feat directly

Within Disney Canon, Vader was able to bind the soul of the Grand Inquisitor with the Force, and Luke Skywalker was capable of fighting his spirit

Force Senses

Through his connection to the Living Force, Vader can gain a degree of cosmic awareness and extend his perception across the environment, perceiving beyond what his eyes can see, the actions of those around him, detect ambushes, and even gain future sight. It could even warn a Force Sensitive of imminent danger. One of the most fundamental applications of this power is the ability to detect nearby lifeforms, being so precise it can distinguish allies from adversaries. It can potentially even sense others who are lightyears apart. Anakin has even used this ability to sense objects in realspace, while he himself was in hyperspace, which is an alternate dimension. This ability can be applied in a way that amplifies one’s physical senses. A Jedi can communicate with others telepathically, or even draw upon the Unifying Force to experience memories from the past with Postcognition.

Precognition

Precognition is a particular application of Force Sense that can be used to perceive events in the future before they occur. Jedi and Sith both used this ability in combat to anticipate their opponent’s movements, while also obfuscating the future to their advantage. Thus, lightsaber duels required equal amounts of skill and Force power. Dark Side adepts such as Skere Kaan could apply their precognitive abilities in ways to aid them in large scale battles, foreseeing each minor and major event. Even as a child Vader exhibited a natural talent with the Unified Force’s precognitive functions, and often experienced premonitions of events that would occur decades later in his dreams

Other applications of Force Precognition allow Jedi to navigate through hyperspace without colliding against objects that may be in their path. Within the canon novel Thrawn Alliances, Chiss possess a natural affinity for Precognition (referred to as Double Vision or Third Sight), which they can use to also maneuver within Hyperspace. Vader also displays this same capability with Precognition. Even as a child, Anakin had “Jedi Reflexes”, the ability to see into the future, which helped him win podracing

Vader can also view detailed events in the future with time-frames of a few seconds, called double vision. Jedi can predict movements shortly in advance with it. This can be used in the middle of combat or even to assist in flying a spaceship. He can spam the usage of double vision, having done so to evade multiple mass shadows in Hyperspace, though overdoing this might result in Vader being left exhausted.

Shatterpoint

Shatterpoint is a unique extension of Force Senses which allows the user to perceive faults in the Force, which then allows them to act on this “critical point”, and shatter the person or object from which it originates. Mace Windu described this ability as being capable of not only detecting the weakest points on physical objects, but also on different scenarios, and states that they can influence the outcome of events

Vader has potentially exhibited this ability, when he was able to instantly detect the weakest point in a hatch door with the Force, and in Disney Canon, he could use Shatterpoint to know the faults in a space battle

Force Stasis/Stun/Slow

Force Stun is an ability that can overload an enemy’s senses, stunning them in place or even paralyzing them entirely. Vader himself knows this technique, and how to resist it, and as Anakin Skywalker, he was capable of utilizing this power to deactivate the shields generated by Droids.

Within Disney Canon, Vader is capable of using this ability to halt airborne grenades and prevent them from exploding. He also exceeds the power of his grandson, and Cal Kestis, who could both freeze blaster fire, and storms

Kinetite

Although Vader is said to be incapable of accessing the use of Force Lightning due to the nature of his cybernetic limbs, he is capable of still utilizing Force generated electricity in the form of Kinetite. Though the ability was first displayed in the book Splinter of the Mind’s Eye, it was unclear what Vader was really doing in the scene, and an issue of the official Star Wars magazine even commented on the confusion around the matter. Later sources would establish Kinetite as a variation of Force Lightning (or Emerald Lightning) which can contain the electrical energies within a sphere of kinetic energy. Vader exhibited this ability against Luke on Nimban, and although one source claims this was due to his proximity to the Kaiburr crystal, he has seemingly used this same technique elsewhere without any form of Force amplifications. Vader is capable of redirecting other sources of lightning, as well as generating his own to utilize kinetite.

The energies generated by the Force in this nature are so potent that they can disintegrate bodies, and render other Force Sensitives to ash.

Battlemind

Vader has access to the obscure Force ability known as Battlemind, which can augment one’s morale, fighting abilities, and concentration. This could be used to aid in lightsaber duels.

Tutaminis

Tutaminis, also referred to as Energy Absorption, is a Force ability which allows a Jedi (or Sith) to absorb, deflect, or disperse harmful energy attacks directed at them. This can be used to negate attacks from blaster fire, Force lightning, and even lightsabers. The energy which is caught or absorbed by Tutaminis can then be turned against the attacker, wounding or even slaying them. The power could also be used to absorb or dissipate different types of energy, including light, heat, microwave or electromagnetic radiation, forms of hard radiation such as alpha, beta and gamma rays, and blaster fire.

The energy assimilated from Tutaminis also had other applications, such as amplifying other Force powers, or healing the user.

Consume Essence

By feeding on the Dark Side energy generated by the negative emotions of others, Vader can heal himself and increase his power to vast degrees. As a Dark Side adept feeds on another’s emotion in this manner, the target of this power begins to weaken

Telepathy

Another way in which The Force can manifest is in a Jedi’s telepathy. Vader is capable of using this power for more offensive and malevolent means, such as invading the minds of others to gain information from them. One of his most impressive feats with this application is when he perceived into the thoughts of Luke Skywalker, who by this point had become one of the strongest Jedi to ever live, and was actively resisting his father’s attempt to invade his mind. Once while in battle with a cyborg assassin, Vader quickly penetrated his mind, found out his backstory and capabilities, and used that to exploit a fatal weakness, all in a short span of time.

Other telepathic abilities Vader would be proficient in are Mind Shard, which can be used to launch a psychic attack at one’s adversary to render them vulnerable, and Dun Moch, the use of verbal attacks to weaken an enemy’s will

Affect Mind

Affect Mind is a versatile Force Ability, which can vary from manipulation of the mind, perception, the senses, and even memories. In regard to Vader’s proficiency with Affect Mind, Luke Skywalker once compared him to Joruus C’baoth, a Force user who was capable of assuming control of the entire population of Wayland, a planetary civilization of 28 million residents. Vader is also superior to Darth Plagueis, who could use the Force to enter the mind of every being in the galaxy, humanoid or otherwise. He is more powerful than Skere Kaan as well, who was able to use the Force to influence the Brotherhood of Darkness and make them submit to his will. Vader should far exceed Count Dooku, who himself is able to override other Mind Tricks with his own

Vader is capable of forcefully overpowering the natural resistances to Affect Mind possessed by certain species. Vader displays his proficiency in other facets of this ability as well when he casts an illusion on Luke, which consequently culminates in him wounding his ally. He can even casually turn rebel soldiers to his side (and can perform said technique against droids). Within Disney Canon, Vader commanded a sentient starship to fly into a sun, and assumed control of a hive mind, forcing it to slay its host

Vader should have a profound degree of mental fortitude as well, as he is above Darth Bane who was able to resist Skere Kaan’s use of Force Persuasion, and Obi-Wan Kenobi who endured a planetary force nexus that was compared to an army of Sith with the power of Darth Maul attacking his mind

Force Healing

Force Healing is an ability which contains many medicinal applications, such as repairing injuries, curing ailments, nullifying poisons, expelling drugs, etc. An extension of this ability exists within Art of The Small, which can be used to heal poisons, toxins, and other ailments on an atomic scale, by manually rebuilding cells and proteins. One can also use Force Healing to dampen the perception of pain, and a darkside variation of this application exists.

Beast Control

Beast control is a particular application of Affect Mind which can function on animals. Vader has used this ability to subjugate hostile creatures, and in Disney Canon, he has compelled sea creatures to come to his defense. Other Force Sensitives such as Bane have also subdued the minds of animals such as Bull Rancors, and Drexls. One of the most impressive feats of Beast Control was performed by Jedi Master Shaak Ti, who had used this ability to call the Felucian Abyss to her aid, and was capable of defending it from Starkiller’s own attacks on its mind

Force Horror

Force Horror, also referred to as Force Fear, or Force Insanity, is an ability which can be used to induce visions of the infinite and plunge a victim into despair and insanity. Vader’s mere presence radiates such potent Dark Side energy, that it can cause others near him to begin cowering in fear. Similarly, Darth Bane was also noted to cause people near him to fall into Madness due to the depths of his Rage, and Vader should be far more powerful than him. His ability to induce Force Fear was so potent that he could force Nick Rostu into a catatonic state, who himself descends from the same race of Force Sensitive beings as Mace Windu. Vader himself has potent mental fortitude, and is immune to such fear inducing effects. Vader can also feel the fear of others from long-distances, and can tell when it's increased. He can even feel the fear of people he can't see, and fear feeds his anger, making him stronger.

Force Scream

At times, in moments of profound anguish and rage, a Force Sensitive could draw upon the Dark Side and send ripples through the Force with a scream, smashing through physical and mental defenses. The Force Scream could violently destroy the environment around the user, melt through metal, and even cause permanent damage to the ears. Dark Side adepts knew how to use this power at will

Force Barriers

Force Barrier is a power which can erect an impenetrable shield of Force energy to protect its user. As Anakin Skywalker, he was able to maintain a barrier against a storm shield generator for nearly an hour, which was stated to kill those within its vicinity by ripping them apart and melting their bones. Later, Vader is seen using barriers to deflect volleys of blaster fire

It helps him block incoming attacks and many other things, one of which being submersion in lava. Several other examples of usages of barriers listed here. Force barriers can even protect against re-entry heat comparable to the outer layers of a star. They also act as a natural counter to Force attacks from opponents.

Force Negation

Vader has access to an ability known as Rebuke, which had the capability to deflect or absorb Force abilities which targeted the user, and they could then be turned against the original attacker

Within Disney Canon, his presence could also prevent others from using the force, “muddying” it

Force Corruption

A Sith can use their Dark Side energies in various ways, and harness it offensively to send a bolt of vileness at their adversaries. Vader’s Dark Side presence was so potent, that even after he perished a Force nexus gathered around the remains of his armor. His castle on Vjun radiated Dark Side energy even with him being absent.

Within Disney Canon, Vader can use his power to corrupt a Kyber Crystal and cause it to bleed by bending it to his will

Sleep Inducement

By utilizing The Force, Vader is able to sedate others through preternatural means. Another Force user that is compared to him, Joruus C’baoth, used a similar ability when he forced Mara Jade Skywalker to feel a sudden sweeping of exhaustion which placed in her a state she described as “half asleep”. Mara Jade is of course a practiced Sith and later Jedi as well, which makes this feat more substantial.

Hibernation Trance

By entering a state of deep meditation, a Force Sensitive can suspend their bodies in animation, either for the purpose of appearing deceased, or preserving their stamina and nutrients when they lack access to food, water, oxygen, etc.

Sith Sorcery

While not something Vader is exactly known for, he has shown the ability to dabble into the more mystical talents of the Force. Vader gave a portion of his knowledge to Kharys, and thus likely knows the means to summon a Demon. This ‘Demon’ is a manifestation of the Dark Side that assumes the form of the target’s fear, and can vaporize its victim. He has also used these mystical powers to bind the soul of the Grand Inquisitor to the will of the Empire after he had killed himself, forcing him to serve his whims forever.

Vader was also stated to know and understand the powers and Dark Side secrets Luke learned from Palpatine, including Sith Alchemy. Due to Darth Bane’s rule of two, all the intricate knowledge of the Sith had been passed down from generation to generation, growing in power, allowing just two Sith Lords to rival thousands of Jedi, with Vader having access to these writings and codices. Vader, as Anakin, also had unlimited access to the ancient Jedi codices as well, with these archives containing a thousand generations worth of knowledge, compared to Plageuis’ own library, and being similarly vast to the ancient Sith libraries of old whose secrets are only remembered through myths and imaginative stories.

While not used by Vader, he might also know how to reanimate the dead into zombies, conjure spears of dark energy, and create Force tendrils.

The powers wielded by Sith magic might not require preparation time, as Luke Skywalker has considered complicated rituals and procedures in order to utilize the Force to be ‘unnecessary’, as well as certain rituals only requiring simple invisible gestures.

 Force Ghost

The Force Ghost is the soul and essence of a Force sensitive that has denied the will of the Force upon death, but still is able to interact with those who are still alive. Vader was taught this technique by his master Palpatine and through communication with the spirits of Obi-Wan and Yoda. Those who have come to terms with death and have used this technique to preserve their identity. They manipulate their own Pneuma to avoid getting absorbed into The Force. Combining this technique with Essence Transfer allows them to physically interact with the environment, which also allows them to interact with living beings and other Force Ghosts. In canon, Anakin was able to manifest a lightsaber as a Force Spirit (see the picture above), as Yoda was able to manifest Lightning in the sky as a Force Ghost himself. Anakin was even able to manipulate Luke’s spirit and return it back to his body after his spirit had been sent to Exogol.

Misc. Abilities

It is said by some sources that outside the abilities Vader has displayed, his knowledge of the Force could have been even greater, and he had access to all of Sidious’ Dark Side tomes. This section will list the Force abilities that Vader at least had a plausible likelihood of knowing, but hasn’t displayed directly.

  Resistances

Obito Uchiha

Chakra

Chakra is the form of life energy used by all ninja and supernatural beings in the Naruto world. This power source, which was originally a spiritual power source, was brought to Earth by the Ōtsutsuki clan. The people of Earth eventually turned  what was originally meant to bring peace to the world into a weapon of war.

Chakra itself is split into two halves: the energy that exists within the cells of a person and the spiritual energy that comes from training. Hand Signs are weaved together in order to convert and release chakra as a jutsu. Seals can be performed with one hand, two hands or even with the hands of others. People have varying degrees of a chakra reserve and this only really matters based on how much control the user has over their chakra. How the seals are performed doesn’t particularly matter either, as they can be performed with just one hand or even using someone else’s. Individual people have different amounts of chakra, based on factors such as lineage, body limitations, and so on, but chakra reserves do not amount to much if they are not properly controlled.

With precise control, Chakra users can channel chakra to their feet in order to climb vertical surfaces, stand upside-down or even walk on water. This ability also allows the user to plant themselves firmly into the ground, making it extremely hard to move them. This can also be used to catch and throw objects such as kunai, shuriken and other tools.

Chakra used for Ninjutsu should also scale to physicality most of the time, as it directly impacts physicality. Chakra and the soul also have a deep connection (this is backed up by Tayuya's technique, Revolt of the Demon World). Obito’s chakra reserves in particular are plentiful, and he has the proficiency to absorb and transfer chakra from and into others. This makes sense, given the Uchihas had "unparalleled chakra" and were super gifted in combat.

Taijutsu

In the Ninja World, Taijutsu is a term used to classify techniques that only involve hand-to-hand combat or martial arts without requiring the use of chakra. Sure, while chakra does help enhance a person’s physical abilities, practitioners of Taijutsu only need the strength and stamina gained from training to execute their techniques. As a bonus to not requiring chakra, hand seals aren’t needed which therefore makes Taijutsu faster to perform than Ninjutsu and Genjutsu. During his fight with Kakashi in the Kamui dimension, Obito was able to showcase his proficiency in Taijutsu by controlling the outcome of the fight, a vast improvement since their previous Taijutsu battle when they were kids.

Genjutsu

Genjutsu are the techniques which involve illusions and messing with the opponents' brains. While their effectiveness depends upon their user's skills, the Uchiha clan members were gifted with the Sharingan which allows them to make essentially "illusions on steroids". Throughout the series, Obito and similar Uchihas have shown just how deadly these Genjutsu can be, like the time he used his Genjutsu to control the Fourth Mizukage despite the fact that perfect Jinchūrikis can ordinarily resist Genjutsu, and controlling the Nine-Tails.

Ninjutsu

The form of ninja techniques that focus on wielding the five elements in various ways to create various powerful and useful techniques. This process is known as Nature Transformation which is an advanced form of chakra control. The five basic natures of chakra are Fire, Water, Wind, Lightning and Earth and a person is usually only born with a select few. As expected, these natures each have an advantage and disadvantage to another nature. Fire is weak to water and strong against wind. Wind beats lightning and loses to fire. Lightning beats earth but loses to wind. Earth beats water, but is weak to lightning. Finally, Water beats fire, but loses to earth.

While Obito himself can utilize various chakra natures, he has a preference for Fire-Style jutsus due to being born in the infamous Uchiha Clan.

Finally, the last two special natures, Yin and Yang are what the non-elemental techniques are birthed from. Yin is the imaginary and spiritual energy of the shinobi while Yang is the vitality and physical energy of the shinobi.

Fire Release

Obito’s original nature affinity. Being a more offensive type of elemental jutsu, Fire-Style requires some careful skill to successfully perform it as it requires a shinobi to knead and transform the chakra within their body and spew it out as actual flames from their out. Obito, being tailored in it from a young age, knows many Fire-Style techniques.

Earth Release

While not many, Obito has displayed a few Earth-Style techniques during his Tobi persona. Though goofy, these two “jutsus” do allow the Uchiha to change the battlefield to his liking while underground, giving him an advantage against his enemies.

  • Hiding Like A Mole Technique: Obito alters the dirt he’s standing on into sand with his chakra so he can dig underground like an actual mole. This technique is handy for either hiding from opponents or setting up explosives.

  • Whac-A-Mole Technique: By moving underground like the mole he's pretending to be, Obito can take his opponents by surprise via popping out of the ground and whacking them with a stick in rapid succession. Ironic. The stick is whacking everyone but the mole himself.

Wood Release

Thanks to being implanted with limbs containing Hashirama’s cells, Obito became capable of using Wood Release, albeit not as efficiently as Hashirama Senju himself. Converting chakra into a source of life, Wood Release is a combination of Water and Earth Release and is a very powerful and rare nature transformation that a shinobi can use.

  • Cutting Technique: From his body, Obito sprouts spikes that he uses as either short-ranged weapons or projectiles for him to throw. He’s also able to skewer his enemies with these spikes by increasing their growth remotely.

  • Great Spear Tree: A technique where Obito crushes his opponents by raising several thick roots from the ground.

  • Underground Roots Technique: Obito raises several roots from underground to manipulate the terrain to his own liking, putting him at an advantage against his opponents. Among several uses, he primarily uses the roots to tangle the surrounding area and crush anyone who gets caught in them.

  • Wood Dragon Technique: Primarily used as part of the Ten-Tails’ “combat form”, this technique is a wooden dragon that Obito creates to attack his opponents head on. However, the wooden dragon can also restrain opponents and drain them of their chakra to the point that even Tailed Beasts like Kurama are affected.

Standard Jutsu

All-around basic techniques taught to all Genin, Obito learned these at a young age and can use them at any time with the proper hand signs.

Transformation Technique

One of the three basic jutsus taught to academy students for graduation, the Transformation Technique allows a shinobi to change their appearance into a splitting image of another person for the purpose of deceiving others, perfect for infiltration and reconnaissance missions as well as causing disorientation and misdirection during combat. While much more difficult to pull off, a shinobi can also change their appearance into plants, animals, and inanimate objects.

Body Replacement/Substitution Technique

Another of the three basic jutsus taught to academy students for graduation, the Body Replacement Technique (or Substitution Jutsu for dub watchers) allows a shinobi to replace themselves with an inanimate object (most commonly a block of wood or another person) before they can get hit with an attack. The purpose of this technique is to trick the attacking enemy long enough for the shinobi to launch their counterattack from their hiding spot.

Clone Technique

The last of the three basic jutsus taught to academy students for graduation, the Clone Technique allows a shinobi to create multiple clones to physically appear beside them, creating the illusion that the enemy will have to fight multiple opponents. However, because the clones generated from this technique aren’t the real deal, their only purpose is to distract and confuse the enemy for the user of the technique.

Temporary Paralysis Technique

As the name implies, this technique is meant to completely immobilize an opponent (or opponents) temporarily, allowing a shinobi the perfect opportunity to either attack their helpless target or to quickly take them into custody while they’re still restrained.

Dojutsu

Dojutsu, or “Eye Jutsu” as the name implies, uses the eyes of the shinobi to execute various different jutsus. How much this drains the stamina varies among the Dojutsu or even the person. These skills of course tax the eyes themselves and in worst case scenarios, could leave the user blind if overtaxed. While there are others, the Great 3 Dojutsu are the Sharingan, Byakugan and Rinnegan. Obito himself has access to both the Sharingan and Rinnegan.

Sharingan

Sharingan is a Dojutsu which belongs to the members of the Uchiha clan. Usually whenever a member unlocks it due to a strong emotion like pain, it has 1 tomoe (the comma-like spots circling the pupil) though in some cases it has 2. The potency of the Sharingan increases with the number of tomoe, though that doesn't mean that Sharingans with less tomoe aren't useful. It also allows the user to see on the cellular level, copy even minute movements like the movement of a pencil, read lip movement, or even outright predict movements.

The Sharingan grants the user heightened perception, the ability to see chakra, predict one’s course of actions by analyzing their muscle movements and respond accordingly, copy techniques, and even see through illusions, such as Itachi’s Tsukuyomi. It can even perceive invisible individuals and entities. The Sharingan also allows its user to focus their vision and act like a microscope, allowing it to see objects on a cellular level and clearly perceive viruses. In general, the Sharingan acts as a counter to other genjutsu. However, it cannot see through obstructions like thick mist.

The Sharingan is awakened and evolved through the user's negative emotions, such as hate, grief, or disappointment. The deeper the hatred or pain, the more powerful the Sharingan becomes.

Obito is able to copy almost any Jutsu he sees, memorizing ninjutsu, genjutsu, and taijutsu with near-perfect accuracy. The Sharingan also allows him to control the mind of the target it's used on, such as when Sasuke controlled Manda against his will. It can even overcome the mental destruction induced by Orochimaru’s Soul Transfer Ritual, eroding the mental universe it occurs inside of in the process.

Sharingan Genjutsu

Wielding a basic Sharingan grants the user the ability to perform Sharingan-based genjutsu, which can vary in their effects. Obito was able to use the Sharingan’s genjutsu in order to subtly mind control Yagura.

This refers to a variety of illusionary techniques Sharingan users can utilize rather than a specific ability. By establishing eye contact with the target, Obito can trap them within a genjutsu. He's done this many times, the most notable of which was when he secretly controlled the actions of the Fourth Mizukage, Yagura, despite him being a perfect Jinchūriki, who are normally able to break out of genjutsu. He also controlled Kurama, the Nine-Tails, with his genjutsu. Lastly, he’s placed Konan under a genjutsu that forced her to reveal information about where Nagato’s body was located

This technique allows its user to look through others' memories and to relay their own memories, and even to project themselves into a target's inner consciousness with a mere gaze.

Izanagi

A forbidden jutsu originating from the Sage of Six Paths’ Creation of All Things, the Izanagi is an ocular Jutsu that when activated, allows the user to blur the lines between dream and reality by making anything harmful to its user like damage or fatal attacks ineffective by rewriting reality around the caster so they never occurred. However using it comes with a steep risk, as the Izanagi only lasts for a limited amount of time and once it’s run out, the eye that was used to cast it loses its sight and becomes permanently blind, it also is unable to undo any damage inflicted on the user prior to its activation.

From possessing Hashirama’s cells from his Zetsu tissue attached to him, Obito is able to maintain Izanagi for up to 5 minutes per eye, showcased when he utilized it to outlast Konan’s 600 billion explosive tags that were designed to detonate for 10 minutes in order to workaround the Kamui’s time limit of 5 minutes, Obito had used the Izanagi for the remaining 5 minutes to survive past the full duration of it.

Izanagi also cannot undo damage done prior to its activation, as it could not restore Obito’s missing arm even after the jutsu had finished. Madara’s activation also did not close his heart wound, though that may have been on purpose.

The anime further expands on Izanagi; it describes it as being able to warp an undesirable reality, which leads to an entirely new fate. It can change the original reality to a new one, at the user’s whim, and the user can choose which outcome they’d prefer to act as the new reality. It’s even implied to affect the surrounding world as a whole, and not just the user. The extent of this however, is unknown.

Mangekyō Sharingan

An evolved version of the normal Sharingan, a Mangekyō Sharingan is awakened when the user suffers a massive loss like losing a close person. Obito unlocked it when he saw Kakashi stab through Rin, the woman he loved with a Chidori, killing her. The Mangekyo Sharingan retains all of the Sharingan’s original abilities and adds new ones, specifically a unique ability that differs between different Uchiha clan members. All of the abilities given by the Sharingan are enhanced with the Mangekyo, most notably genjutsu, which doesn’t require the presence of a chakra flow in the target when induced by a Mangekyo,

The Mangekyō Sharingan has one vital weakness however; it can cause a strain on the user with over-usage, eventually disabling the use of the Sharingan altogether and leaving them with permanent blindness. Obito himself doesn't seem to have this issue, which may have to do with his Hashirama cells.

Kamui

Obito’s own unique Mangekyō Sharingan ability, Kamui. A powerful Dōjutsu and space-time ninjutsu that transfers objects into the separate time-space created by Obito's Mangekyō Sharingan. Two primary versions of Kamui exist, with Obito’s version being the short-ranged right eye Kamui.

Obito's Kamui exhibits two incredibly distinct, though related abilities. Obito’s primary application of Kamui is ‘teleportation’. Obito frequently applies this technique on himself, drawing himself into the depths of his right eye to access Kamui's time-space, and subsequently re-emerging at any desired location. Its purpose varies; sometimes he resorts to this technique to evade incoming attacks, while other times he relies on it for swift long-distance travel. There’s little to no change in Obito’s chakra when he does this. His Kamui can even neutralize Kakashi’s own Kamui. Obito can also teleport others into Kamui’s time-space, leaving them stranded, though this requires some form of physical contact. Obito can even teleport individuals and objects from his dimension to his present location. Karin was even unable to sense Sasuke's chakra signatures when he was teleported by Obito. Obito can also teleport objects into its dimension, and weaponize the armory Obito stores inside of it by ejecting them forcefully, giving Kamui an offensive application. These transfers are frequently distinguished by a swirling void that engulfs and distorts the targets, altering their shape and mass as they traverse between dimensions. Kamui can also be used to amplify some of Obito’s other ninjutsu, such as Fire Release, creating the Bomb Blast Dance technique.

While incredibly useful, Kamui’s ‘teleportation’ falters in several areas. Madara was able to perfectly counter Obito's teleportation with the Truth Seeking-Balls' range, this is because it takes far longer for Obito to suck himself into Kamui’s time-space than it does others. Obito must also remain materialized when he does this, and the speed of the transfer is slower than his own reactions. This even applies to transferring others. Those who have been sent into Kamui’s time-space can also find and damage Obito’s body while he’s intangible.

Obito’s secondary application of Kamui is ‘intangibility’. Upon activation, Kamui automatically and unconsciously transfers body parts that otherwise would have been in contact with the overlapping matter into Kamui’s time-space. Anything he touches, including his attire, weapons, and even individuals, will also become intangible. Obito frequently employs this ability in a defensive manner, rendering all attacks to pass through him harmlessly. Alternatively, Obito utilizes this ability to traverse barriers and other obstacles effortlessly. He also possesses the ability to "phase" underground and reemerge unexpectedly, while extending the reach of his attacks by making his gunbai phase through objects. Obito can even "phase" through massive area-of-effect attacks and explosions. It works when Obito’s body is under Shadow Possession, and it’s implied to have been this jutsu that allowed Obito to survive getting crushed as a child.

Obito is pretty tricky and creative with Kamui too; (as Tobi) he frequently employed the tactic of feigning injury or expressing pain to bewilder his adversaries, pretending to attack while remaining intangible so his opponents hit each other, allowing opponents pass through him and then ensnare them with his Kusari, rushing forward and phasing through his enemy while releasing a barrage of exploding paper bombs in his trail, phasing through them mid attack and leaving them wide-open as they damage their allies. Kamui’s ‘passive’ nature is also vividly showcased, saving Obito from Itachi’s Amaterasu that was sealed within Sasuke’s eyes and reacting to attacks while he’s focused on acquiring the Nine-Tails.

Though, this doesn’t come without its fair share of weaknesses. Obito can only use Kamui for five minutes consecutively, and since the transfer is done unconsciously, Obito can't physically interact with anything or attack anyone while it's active, forcing him to turn solid if he wishes to engage in combat. He must also materialize to teleport things. Konan exploited this easily by having Paper Bombs all around him, ready to attach to Obito the moment he materialized. Alternatively, opponents have the option to bypass his intangibility by shifting themselves or their attacks into Kamui's dimension, thereby granting them the ability to harm Obito's transported body parts. Obito, while intangible, can also be affected by gravity.

Limited Tsukuyomi

In order to prepare for the Infinite Tsukuyomi plan, Obito creates a “prototype” of the genjutsu using seven of the Tailed Beasts that the Akatsuki had sealed into the Demonic Statue. The technique is a crystal orb that contains a “genjutsu world” inside it. Obito can use the orb to send people into this fake world where it conforms to the victims’ inner desires. The crystal orb needs to be destroyed so that the people trapped inside the genjutsu world could leave.

This technique does require a certain amount of set up time to be made. Before creating the genjutsu world to trap Naruto, Obito had to observe him for some time in order to learn his inner desires. As shown when the Sakura from the genjutsu world manifested in the real world, the beings in the Limited Tsukuyomi appear to be physical. In addition, the realm of the genjutsu world isn’t affected by techniques that normally dispel genjutsu. Despite creating the Limited Tsukuyomi, Obito has no direct control over the genjutsu world but can still fight the people trapped inside by possessing individuals created by the technique.

Rinnegan

Of the three primary Dojutsu (Sharingan and Byakugan being the others), the Rinnegan is treated as the most powerful of them. This eye originated with Hagoromo Ōtsutsuki, which he obtained when he mortally injured his brother. This eye can be obtained by Sharingan wielders if they manage to gain some of Hagoromo’s chakra either via receiving it directly from him, or getting it from his two sons, Indra and Asura. It allows the user to utilize the abilities known as the Six Paths Technique.

Deva Path

The Deva Path gives the user the ability to levitate, as well as control both attractive and repulsive forces - however, these techniques cannot be performed in quick succession, as the techniques have a minimum of five seconds of recharge time, which increases depending on the scale of the techniques. The three main techniques that this grants Obito are:

Preta Path

The Preta Path grants the ability to absorb chakra through physical contact with individuals or from ninjutsu-based techniques that are formed purely from chakra or chakra based. Though physical attacks can’t be fully negated, the chakra within them can be absorbed. The user can presumably absorb attacks even if they’re from stronger foes, as Nagato’s Preta Path was able to absorb attacks from Sage Mode Naruto, who was far superior to him. This is supported by the ability being described as sending the attacks into a “bottomless swamp”.

Asura Path

With the Asura Path, the user can alter their body to form mechanised armour and all kinds of mechanical and ballistic weaponry. This includes growing two extra faces, four extra arms, and a spiked metal tail. These limbs also contain weapons within themselves which the user can access, such as blades or missiles, or even firing their own hands like a bazooka. They can also allow the user to fly, protrude drills and blades from their body like tendrils, including the tail, and their head can be used to fire blasts of chakra from.

Human Path

The Human Path allows its user to acquire information from reading the mind of someone by placing a hand on their head or chest and subsequently removing the person's soul from their body, being fatal for most individuals.

Animal Path

The Animal Path allows the user to summon various creatures to aid them in battle. These are creatures that have been killed, and then brought back into the fold as reanimated beings. Due to these creatures having chakra receivers as piercings, the Rinnegan is reflected in their eyes. In other words, the user can see through the eyes of their summons. In addition, if these creatures are killed in battle, summoning them again will bring them back to life. The Animal Path also allows the user to summon the other Six Paths of Pain and anyone else who’s wearing the chakra receivers as piercings. Lastly, Obito himself can summon the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path.

Such beasts include:

Naraka Path

The Naraka Path is considered the most valuable Path as it allows the user to summon the King of Hell, a giant head sprouted from the ground in purple flames, for two special abilities: interrogation and restoration. The King of Hell also possesses the Rinnegan, allowing the user to see from his eyes as well.

Interrogation involves a Rinnegan user interrogating their victim, and the King of Hell passing judgment depending on the answer. If the victim is lying or refusing to answer, then the King of Hell will rip out their soul by releasing arm-like tendrils from its mouth and using them to grab a victim’s life force by enlarging their tongues and consuming the soul right after. However, if the victim is truthful, they will be spared but left completely exhausted.

Restoration involves having the King of Hell repair any damage done to the body. The King of Hell will drag the damaged body into its mouth with its tendrils and ingest it. After some time, the body will emerge, completely repaired and rejuvenated. It is also capable of harboring souls extracted by the Human Path.

Outer Path

Lastly, the Rinnegan grants Obito the power over life and death through the seventh Six Paths ability known as the Outer Path. It’s this path that gives Obito his ability to create the chakra receivers from his body. As mentioned before, Obito can transmit his chakra through these receivers, allowing him to restrain the chakra and movement of his opponents when he pierces them with those rods. Just like Nagato, Obito can create his own reanimated Six Paths of Pain by implanting pieces of the chakra receivers into the corpses of six Jinchuriki that the Akatsuki had captured and killed and control their movements remotely. Each Six Path of Pain should be capable of performing one of the Rinnegan’s abilities but doing so will divide Obito’s chakra, so he chose for them not to do so. Obito can also share visual information with his Six Paths through the Outer Path due to them possessing reflections of the Rinnegan.

Hashirama Cells

Cells of the first Hokage, Hashirama Senju. Obito was given limbs made from his cells after his crushing experience with a rock. Obito can regenerate from wounds, and utilize the Senju Clan’s signature technique, Wood Release. Obito was also able to strengthen the efficiency and duration of his Izanagi technique, as he had now contained chakra from the descendants of both Indra and Asura Ōtsutsuki.

Summoning Jutsu

Demonic Statue of the Outer Path

After having its chakra separated from its body, the Ten Tails was left as a husk where only those with the Rinnegan were granted the ability to summon it. Because it’s not being fueled by the Tailed Beasts, the Demonic Statue drains its summoner of their life force whenever it is summoned. Fortunately for Obito, he doesn’t have that problem whenever he summons the Demonic Statue. Despite being a giant husk, the Demonic Statue is powerful enough to physically match the strength of the Akimichi Clan using their Super Multi-Size Technique. In addition, the Demonic Statue can absorb chakra through phantom dragons that it emits and can even contain the Tailed Beasts by summoning chakra chains to bind them.

The Ten-Tails

The Ten-Tails is the original Tailed Beast believed to be the progenitor of all that exists in the world. However, after he and his brother Hamura defeated their mother Kaguya, the Sage of Six Paths Hagoromo Ōtsutsuki sealed the power of the Ten-Tails and divided it into the nine Tailed Beasts. During the Fourth Shinobi World War, Obito would command the Ten-Tails against the Allied Shinobi Forces after freeing it by obtaining the combined chakra of the other Tailed Beasts. Possessing tremendous power, the Ten-Tails can casually flick away Gyuki’s Tailed Beast Bombs with only one finger, and its roar can create natural disasters that span across continents. To protect itself, the Ten-Tails will produce an innumerable amount of small replicas of itself from its main body to fend off enemies. Finally, the Ten-Tails has a final form known as the God Tree where it captures people with its roots to drain them of their chakra, quickly turning its victims into desiccated corpses. By using a tube connected to the back of his neck, Obito has direct control over the Ten-Tails.

Forms

Darth Vader

Sith Spirit

This is the representation of Darth Vader’s soul within the Force itself. Not to be confused with the Force Ghost. For Vader’s soul projected in the Force, the white limbs represent the parts of him cut off from the Force. Vader’s soul takes this appearance when Vader meditates. While in mediation, we are shown his spirit viewing prior memories. Luke has a similar aspect, though his spirit is light blue.

While not normally capable of manifesting, Vader’s exposure to a door to the Force allowed his spirit to leave his body and travel through a temporal portal. Vader viewed his entire life from beginning to end, even seeing future events such as his battle with Ahsoka. While separated from his body, he was capable of manifesting dark energy sabers (similar to how later on as a Force ghost, he could conjure a spectral lightsaber) and even use Force lightning to kill Palpatine within the temporal realm. After being shown he could not save Padmé, a vision (or perhaps physical presence) of Luke’s spirit banished Vader from the time portal, sending him back to his original body.

If Vader’s soul is exposed to another person’s own mental scape (considering Vader still manifests in this state within his own mindscape while meditating) or something akin to the Force, it might be possible for his spirit to manifest. His battles in the time portal can be seen as a combination of symbolic and physical (Momin showed the Time Portal has physical effects when he used to bring his body back from the past to the present).

Obito Uchiha

Ten-Tails Jinchūriki

After successfully sealing the Ten-Tails inside his body, Obito becomes its Jinchūriki. However, when Obito did this, he was unable to control its power, his mind had been shattered so thoroughly he could not recognize his own name. While the Tailed Beast nearly ripped him and his identity apart, Obito was able to tame it, granting him full control of the Ten-Tails, and its immense power. As the Ten-Tails’ host, Obito ascended in power so greatly that even Hashirama Senju, the God of Shinobi, declared Obito was stronger than him. His body is impervious to most forms of damage, only Senjutsu has shown to be effective against him. Even when he does take damage, he possesses an incredibly potent healing factor. He was capable of regenerating half of his body in seconds. He can also utilize Yin-Yang Release, granting him access to Truth-Seeking Balls. He also gains a degree of enlightenment, comparable to Naruto’s own when he gained access to the Sage of Six Paths’ power.

Obito can fly and produce chakra arms with a reach spanning hundreds of meters from his back, which are capable of grabbing souls. He can manifest the Ten-Tails as a several-kilometer long tree, and the tree itself can absorb chakra at an incredible rate and can use its roots to attack Obito’s opponents. The roots are malleable, able to be reshaped, notably assuming a draconic state for a stronger offense. He also possesses black receivers made from Truth-Seeking Balls to create a barrier that spans several kilometers. Additionally, Obito can create trees capable of launching up to four Tailed Beast Bombs.

Obito no longer has to worry about absorbing an excessive amount of Senjutsu with the Preta Path, as the Ten-Tails is composed of it.

Although the form has many advantages, it also has a few notable drawbacks. Despite being able to neutralize any Ninjutsu-related attack, it remains susceptible to both Senjutsu and Taijutsu. Furthermore, Obito cannot turn intangible with Kamui.

Six Paths Chakra

Obito received a unique and potent form of chakra as a result of sealing the Ten-Tails within himself. Known as Six Paths Chakra, it significantly improves Obito's chakra abilities and physical attributes, enabling him to augment the strength of his jutsu. With enough damage, it’s shown that Obito’s body has the potential to “leak” his chakra. Anyone who makes contact with it is able to connect with Obito within his inner mental world. Receiving this chakra allowed Obito’s soul to persist beyond his death, enabling him to possess Kakashi, granting him temporary access to Obito’s Dual Mangekyō Sharingan, and all of the powers it grants.

Yin-Yang Release

Having gained the power of the Ten-Tails, Obito is able to combine Yin Release with Yang Release to achieve Yin-Yang Release. This incredible power is capable of nullifying Ninjutsu, but it is primarily meant for unlocking and acquiring an exclusive ability.

Truth-Seeking Balls

Those who obtain Six Paths Chakra are able to awaken Truth-Seeking Balls. While it is varied in how many one receives once acquiring the chakra, Obito received a total of ten upon becoming the Ten-Tails Jinchūriki. Initially, Obito only managed to manifest two, but once he tamed the Ten-Tails and took control, he manifested all ten. Truth-Seeking Balls are orbs of malleable chakra with a maximum range of 70 meters, they can erase matter on contact, nullify ninjutsu, destroy whatever it touches on a near-atomic level, and even erase space-time itself. It is almost guaranteed that touching one of these will end in your demise.

Truth-Seeking Balls can be shaped into many different forms, depending on what Obito wants, ranging from black receivers, chakra arms, shields, and weapons. Notably, Obito shaped his Truth-Seeking Balls to take the form of the Sword of Nunoboko, which Obito claimed to be a holy relic used by Hagomoro Ōtsutsuki, the Sage of Six Paths, to shape the world (but not in a literal sense). The strength of the sword entirely depends on Obito’s willpower and resolve. Simply striking with it can create a massive area of energy.

Additionally, exposure to a Truth-Seeking Ball can result in the destruction of the victim’s soul. Minato lost both of his arms as a result, as even after Minato’s soul left his reanimated body, his soul was shown to be missing the arms he lost while he was reanimated. It is true that the orbs have the ability to neutralize ninjutsu, however, this cannot be the reason why Minato's soul is missing his arms. This is because fragments of the soul are not bound separately to an Edo body, but rather uniformly.

Ninja Storm 4 shows how versatile the Truth-Seeking Balls can be. They were shown being shaped into needles, ramming tendrils, and even large exploding orbs. Truth-Seeking Scorch launches an energy beam from an orb and the Sword of Nunoboko can release energy slashes. Six Paths Cross Lantern ignites the orbs on fire to burn the enemy upon contact. The orbs can grow to encompass hundreds of meters, and can be used to form a barrier around Obito himself.

The Truth-Seeking Balls can also be used to create large arms, it can also be shaped into a scythe (which was used for a boomerang-like attack), or a massive drill (that can send out shockwaves). Obito can use them to perform underground attacks, launch massive orbs (or use them like a giant ball nuke), or a large charge beam. In the event that a Truth-Seeking Ball is damaged, Obito can use his chakra to restore them.

Due to the versatility of the Truth-Seeking Balls, as well as their remarkable agility, Obito is able to utilize them as both equally capable offensive and defensive tools. He was capable of dispelling Sasuke’s Amaterasu, a technique that is capable of burning through even fireproof substances, and is said to be hotter than the sun.

However, despite their impressive power and variety, Truth-Seeking Balls cannot nullify or erase Senjutsu techniques. They can still harm a body with Sage Mode, as Madara was capable of cutting Minato’s arm off.

Perhaps most impressive of all, even after losing the Ten-Tails, Obito demonstrated the ability to manifest a staff made from the Truth-Seeking Balls. With this staff, he was able to deflect other Truth-Seeking Balls from Madara, and even clash with Madara’s own staff.

Tailed Beast Bomb

The signature attack of all Tailed Beasts, the Ten-Tails is capable of performing this attack by condensing chakra into its mouth and then firing it for tremendous destructive power, its range can allow it to reach hundreds of miles. Despite its name, the Tailed Beast Bomb can take other shapes. The Ten-Tails has fired its Tailed Beast Bomb as a beam, which was capable of destroying other Tailed Beast Bombs, notably destroying both the Eight-Tails and Nine-Tails’ Tailed Beast Bombs. It also destroyed entire mountains, leaving massive destruction in its wake. As the Ten-Tails Jinchūriki, Obito can unleash his own variation from the trees can create.

Infinite Tsukuyomi

Through the use of the God Tree, Obito has the ability to cast a weakened version of the Infinite Tsukuyomi. In order to activate it, Obito must wait around 15 minutes for the flower within the God Tree to bloom, as Obito lacks the Rinne-Sharingan that allowed Madara to cast it on command and at full power. Once activated, the Infinite Tsukuyomi reflects light from the Moon onto the planet that results in the entire planet being trapped in a never-ending dream. Those who fall victim to it are under its control, they are unable to move and are subjected to live in a personalized dream world that fulfills their deepest desires. Under the effects of the Infinite Tsukuyomi, its victims are completely vulnerable, able to be attacked or trapped in the bark from the God Tree’s roots. However, there are methods of resisting the Infinite Tsukuyomi. Those who possess a Rinnegan can protect themselves from the moon’s light, and deceased individuals who are reanimated are unaffected.

Scaling

Darth Vader

Luke Skywalker

There’s obviously no question of scaling here, as the two have fought various times and share in the Skywalker name, and his previously-unknown son, born from Padmé, is a supremely powerful Jedi in his own right. (He does not scale to Grandmaster Luke, however.)

Obi-Wan Kenobi

Vader’s old and forsaken master, he has inevitably crossed paths with his former student many times over, even dying by his hands.

Galen Marek/Starkiller

Vader was Starkiller’s mentor, and later did battle with him on the Death Star, and his clone on Kamino. It is implied that he was defeated in their first encounter because he had underestimated him, and in their battle on Kamino, the clone abused Vader’s vulnerability to lightning. Vader has matched Starkiller in combat. He even held back fighting the clone. He also overpowered Starkiller with one arm, with Galen needing to distract Vader to fully escape.

Darth Sidious

The Senator that tainted Anakin to become one of the strongest Sith in history. There have been statements that declare Darth Vader at his strongest would match 80% of Palpatine’s’ might in George Lucas’ Wonders of the Galaxy. Furthermore, there are several statements across Legends and current canon that by Episode 6, Vader was relative to the Emperor.

Ancient Sith

Due to Palpatine being the strongest Sith in history up till his death(s), it is worth noting prior feats done by the Sith of old.

Yarael Poof

I’m right with you, Zam. Yes, we’re unfortunately going to have to tear open this wound again and talk even more about the legendary Jedi Master / pizza bitch Yarael Poof. First, let’s recap things. The story this feat is from is told across two 2002 one-shot comics - one focusing on Jango Fett, and the other on Zam Wesell. Y’know, the weird lizard lady Jango Fett kills with a blowdart. Yes, she got her own comic… because every single Star Wars character needs their own comic, okay?

In the Jango Fett one-shot, the bounty hunter is tasked with tracking down a thief who stole a peculiar artifact from Fernooda the Dug’s art collection. He heads off to the planet Seylott to apprehend the criminal, but with his dying breath, the man tells him to return the idol to its original resting place. “It must rest with the mother… return the infant to the womb… for it is the destroyer of worlds.” Jango’s confused, but is snapped out of it when fellow bounty hunter Zam Wesell arrives to take the idol for herself. After a brief scuffle with a giant insect monster, Jango and Zam reconcile, and Fett turns the artifact over to Fernooda. The Dug passes on the idol to Ashaar Khorda, an Anoo-dat revolutionary bent on destroying the planet Coruscant, which he views as the black heart of a corrupt Republic.

The story picks up in the Zam Wesell one-shot. As it turns out, the mysterious relic is called the Infant of Shaa. Despite its size, it’s a receptacle for Force energy, and if shattered, its explosion could destroy an entire world. This is a fact that’s repeatedly emphasized throughout the comic. Khorda plans to use the idol in his scheme to destroy Coruscant. Over the course of the story, Zam and Jango discover Khorda’s plot and decide to put an end to it, feeling personally responsible. Zam thinks to go to the core of Coruscant, as she deduces that Khorda would likely plant it there to set off a chain reaction and cause the most damage.

Parallel to the Zam and Jango storyline, Jedi Master Yarael Poof is out on the streets of Coruscant trying to find Khorda for himself. The Jedi had learned of Khorda’s intention to blow up a planet in advance, and had tasked three Jedi with protecting Khorda’s three most likely targets. Tracking the Force energies of the Infant of Shaa, Yarael Poof heads down to Coruscant’s core - it turns out Zam’s intuition had been correct, as that was indeed where Khorda planned to plant the Infant. A battle breaks out between the bounty hunters, the Jedi, and Khorda’s forces, during which the Infant triggers. Poof takes hold of the artifact, but gets stabbed in the gut and drops it. It nearly goes over a ledge, but Zam snatches it at the last instant. The destruction of Coruscant seems inevitable, but the mortally wounded Poof reveals to Zam that he can prevent the explosion with the Force, Zam asking if he means he can “defuse” it. She hands the Infant over to the Jedi, who uses the last of his strength to “bind together the idol’s energies,” saving countless lives at the cost of his own. The comic wraps up soon after.

While this is the story as originally presented in the comics, there are more sources of information to draw from - specifically, Star Wars guides. These are written from both in-universe and out-of-universe perspectives. Here’s a list of every single one that mentions the Infant of Shaa incident, along with scans or excerpts that show what that source has to say on the topic.

These various guides all give (usually conflicting) additional information on the feat. Some say that Yarael “contains” the Infant’s destructive energies (Complete Encyclopedia, Databank), others seem to go with a “binding” or “defusing” interpretation closer to the original story (Fact File 106, Ultimate Visual Guide, Comics Companion), and one guide even claims that he absorbed the idol’s power (Fact File 101). Others are just very vague and don’t give much information at all (Insider 66, Fact File 100, Essential Chronology, Essential Reader’s Companion), or don’t even mention Yarael’s involvement (AOTC Illustrated Companion, Essential Atlas).

Let’s be real here. Pretty much any discussion over this feat eventually devolves into people spinning wheels over semantics: the exact definition of the word “contain,” whether the feat is a chain reaction or not, the specific mechanics of what “binding” or “defusing” a Force bomb would even entail, etcetera etcetera.

Some people will argue that the original comic seems to try and “lowball” the feat through the introduction of certain elements - the author randomly tries to imply at one point that the Infant will only set off a chain reaction, inconsistent with previous descriptions of the artifact. They also explicitly use the word “defuse” in dialogue, as if to put the idea in the reader’s head that Yarael’s essentially doing the Force equivalent of snipping the red wire on a bomb about to blow. These people think it’s possible that he, like some other Legends authors, figured there was some kind of narrative problem in giving Force users planet-busting capabilities, and thus intentionally put those bits in there to lessen the scale of the feat. Of course, this kind of argument heavily leans on personal interpretation, and proponents tend to downplay some details about the feat by emphasizing the inconsistencies.

Others will argue that any hypothetical intention of the author doesn’t really matter, as any interpretation you can make of the scene could be spun as counting as a feat for Yarael’s Force power. Containing, binding, absorbing, no matter what, you could come up with an argument for it. Well, if you squint, and use this guide but not this other guide, and go with a particular interpretation of how the Infant works, and so on. To describe the feat at the most basic level, Yarael is manipulating a stockpile of Force energy with enough power to blow apart a planet…. do the specifics of how he’s manipulating it really matter that much?

Ultimately, this feat is the battleboarding equivalent of an inkblot test. Whatever you want to see in it, you’ll see in it. If you think Yarael Poof of all characters being a planet buster makes little sense, and that random Force users being planet level causes all of Star Wars to make no sense, you’ll turn up your nose and say the feat doesn’t count because… author intent, defuse, chain reaction, whatever BS you can come up with. If you’re a more open-minded kind of person, you’ll go to bat for ol’ Poof. Is it really all crazy that a Jedi powerful enough to sit on the High Council could pull something like that off? So you’ll go and dig up some guides and write a few paragraphs about what the word “contain” really means, and how the chain reaction line is meaningless inconsistent bullshit, and how since one source is in-universe and one source is out-of-universe that means blah blah blah you probably get the point by now.

At the end of the day, the feat can be read several different ways due both to odd details in the comic and inconsistencies introduced by guides. Aside from harassing an author on Twitter about some crappy Star Wars spin-off comic he wrote two decades ago, we can never really know for sure what was meant by the scene - all we can do is argue back and forth about the mechanics of a Force power that’s shown once and never again. In a word, it’s vague. For this blog, we’ll be using it despite any possible issues, as it applying to Yarael’s AP is a totally legitimate interpretation of that vagueness. Although, if you buy it, it would get a measly estimate of 47.37 to 82.42 zettatons of TNT.

The Sunstar

Good heavens, look at the time. It appears to be… Ewok o’ clock.

In the 1980s, Star Wars, like any other popular property at the time, was spun off into a cheaply produced toy commercial cartoon series. Two cheaply produced cartoon series, in fact - one centering around C3PO and R2-D2, and another that focused on the lovable Ewoks from everyone’s favorite film of the original trilogy. The Ewoks show took a very strange approach to Star Wars lore, being set mostly on Endor and depicting the Force used in ways unseen in other media.

In the eighth episode of the second season, The Night of the Stranger, an important artifact known as the Sunstar causes two moons visible from Endor to align in the sky. (6.28 - 9.15 yottatons of TNT) In a comic set later in the timeline, the Nightsister Charal fights an Ewok wielding the artifact, and it's stated that its power was drained over the course of the battle. Random Nightsisters should obviously be weaker Dark Side users than someone like Vader. And while the portrayal of the Force is generally very… weird in the show, which has lead some people to think that it’s maybe just some kind of entirely separate magic, supplementary materials have stated that all the weird Ewok wizardry BS is just a different way of using the Force, and that the Sunstar is indeed a Force artifact.

Though for a while some people online would tell you that the Ewoks cartoon wasn’t part of EU/Legends continuity, this is actually a misconception. It’s mostly based on a gag from the novel Fate of the Jedi: Outcast where a “children’s broadcast” about “animated Ewoks” is referenced. Some people took this line and ran with it to say that Ewoks had been retconned away as an in-universe kids’ show. However, this claim has no actual basis. Star Wars fans basically just wanted an excuse to toss out all the dumb Ewoks crap. However, given that guidebooks like the Complete Encyclopedia cover original content from the show right alongside other EU media, it’s clear that Ewoks was, is, and forever will be canon*. And you can’t do anything about it.

*(Well, canon to what we now call Legends at least.)

Obito Uchiha

Akatsuki

As the leader of the Akatsuki behind the scenes, Obito was always considered on a higher rank than all of his fellow teammates, even the stronger ones such as Itachi and Pain. Obito continues to lead the Akatsuki until it eventually falls apart, at which point he’s already grown even stronger thanks to obtaining the Rinnegan.

Five Kage

Obito is stated in guides to have power on par with Edo Madara, who fought on par with and eventually overwhelmed the 5 Kage all at once.

Naruto Uzumaki

While Obito can’t scale to Naruto at his most powerful state, he’s able to scale to Naruto’s feats prior to acquiring Six Paths Sage Mode. Specifically, he consistently rivaled KCM Naruto during the war, and even after Naruto unlocks KCM 2 + Sage Mode, Obito is able to stay a step ahead once he becomes the Jinchūriki of the Ten-Tails. As such, he should scale to any notable feats within this range.

Sasuke Uchiha

Obito’s fellow Uchiha clansmen. Considering their shared bloodline, mastery of similar abilities and techniques, and inheritance of power from the Sage of Six Paths, Obito should be more than comparable, at least before Sasuke obtains the Rinnegan

Kakashi Hatake

Kakashi has always been Obito’s main rival ever since they were young Genin. Despite being the underdog at first, Obito grew to be on par with Kakashi during the war arc, and far surpasses him once he became the Ten Tails Jinchūriki.

Madara Uchiha

Obito’s mentor, and fellow Uchiha clansmen. Obito acquired a vast amount of knowledge from Madara, including similar abilities and even the possession of Madara's Rinnegan. Guides have implied that base Obito had power on par with Edo Madara, and Madara directly said he would need to steal Hashirama’s Sage Mode powers to fight against Juubito. Therefore, Obito can undoubtedly be considered on par with, and eventually above, a base form Madara.

The Ten-Tails

After absorbing the Ten-Tails and becoming the Ten-Tails' Jinchūriki, Obito naturally would be capable of performing any of the feats that the Ten-Tails itself had performed. Even without the full chakra from Kurama and Gyuki, Obito’s stated to be more powerful than the Ten-Tails on its own as its Jinchūriki.

Sage of Six Paths

There are several statements in the novels that say Obito, after becoming the Ten-Tails Jinchūriki, had enough power to rival the Sage of Six Paths, Hagoromo Ōtsutsuki.

Weaknesses

Darth Vader

While you’d think Palpatine would spare no expense when it came to reconstructing the most powerful Jedi he had ever seen as his own cyborg servant, the truth is somewhat surprising. Palpatine didn’t put all that much money towards the project and didn’t even bother to procure more effective medical equipment than the outdated junk that was already lying around. The surgical droids working on Vader even wound up polishing his iconic helmet with woodoo hide, hoping that the shine would distract Palpatine from all the budget-related shortcuts they had to make. This was all deliberate on Palpy’s part, as a way of ensuring the young Sith would have weaknesses he could take advantage of in case he ever rebelled. It’s worth noting though that Vader is sometimes mentioned as making modifications to his suit (both in canon and in Legends), so it’s possible he amended some of these flaws with his engineering prowess.

One shortcoming that he probably couldn’t remove is the suit’s inherent weakness to electricity. Anything that can short out his suit’s life support systems will certainly bring Vader down a notch, though he has survived and fought for some time even with significant damage to his armor. In both Canon and Legends, the currents of Force Lightning that were sent through his body as he threw Palpatine down the Death Star’s reactor shaft ultimately lead to his demise.

Finally, while the Force is an external energy source that cannot be diminished in a fight, that doesn’t mean Vader can just use the Force as much as he wants. Continuous or particularly impressive uses of the Force are often shown to put physical strain on the user, even for characters as powerful as Luke Skywalker during his Grandmaster days. Sometimes, this can even result in death from overtaxing one’s self. Vader may not be running out of Force energy, but he can run out of physical stamina.

Obito Uchiha

Obito, despite being a formidable foe in his world, has limits like any other shinobi. His chakra reserves are fairly large but not infinite, and constant use of jutsu will deplete them over time. If he is blinded, his Sharingan can be deactivated, and some of his powerful techniques like Kamui and Izanagi have time limits. Additionally, some of his Genjutsu techniques require eye contact. When Obito is attacking, Kamui won't work, and he can be physically interacted with.

While in his Ten-Tails Jinchūriki state, Obito is impervious to Ninjutsu, but Senjutsu and Taijutsu can still harm him. He cannot use Kamui to make himself intangible in this state, and it is debatable as to if Izanagi can activate during this state as well. His power output as the Jinchūriki is based on willpower and will decrease if it waivers. Lastly, Truth-Seeking Balls cannot nullify or erase Senjutsu techniques.

Verdicts

Darth Vader

Stats

Although the power levels of Star Wars have been contentious in the past, one can make very decent arguments for Vader matching or even exceeding what Obito himself is capable of. Vader was consistently recognized since his youthful upbringing as one of the most powerful Force users to ever live within the Galaxy. Described as ‘one of the most powerful warriors of the Force who ever drew breath’, ‘more powerful than any Jedi in history’, ‘the most powerful Jedi who ever lived’, ‘one of the most powerful Jedi ever’, ‘as strong in the Force as any Jedi who had sat on the Jedi council’, ‘the most powerful Jedi in a thousand years’, etc. and ad nauseam, Vader is no slouch in power, scaling to and above many of the most powerful Force users to exist. Vader simply opening a Force gateway produced quakes across the entire planet of Mustafar, creating natural disasters felt across its entire surface, which gets to 3.872 teratons, or Small Country level. Vader, as Anakin during the Clone Wars, was able to cause a huge disturbance in a star through plunging a ship into its most outer layers, which gets to 31.76 - 77.72 exatons, or Moon level, with Anakin doing this extremely casually. As Vader is comparable to his master, Darth Sidious, the most powerful Sith to ever exist, he would also be comparable to the Ancient Sith Malak, who was able to absorb the energies of a superweapon which harvested its power from a star, which gets 52 exatons, or Moon level. Vader, even as Anakin, should also be above Jedi Master Yarael Poof, who was capable of binding the energies of the Infant of Shaa, a planet destroying Force artifact. Such a force has been calculated as requiring 47.37 - 82.42 zettatons of TNT, or Planet level.

Obito can of course match numbers in the zettatons, and even exceed that, with his own feats entering the range of 2 yottatons.. However, this pales in comparison to Vader upscaling from a random Nightsister (effectively a Dark Side witch), who was able to drain the power of a Force artifact over the course of a fight, with this Force artifact (the Sunstar) being capable of moving entire moons at hypersonic speeds, which gets 6.3 - 9.15 Yottatons. With Vader scaling far beyond this feat, and progressively becoming more powerful throughout the course of time, he should be capable of completely overpowering Obito and potentially even killing him in one blow.

Additionally, as Vader is comparable to Sidious who is more powerful than all other previous Sith, he should be more powerful than Darth Malgus, who was able to battle the Outlander, an absurdly powerful Force user capable of defeating Gethul, the destroyer of worlds, a creature capable of destroying entire planets and destabilizing planetary cores with just its tentacles. The Outlander was also capable of defeating Tyth, the Machine God of Rage, while Tyth was at full power. This Machine God was capable of completely obliterating the cosmic body Iokath, with Iokath being a Dyson Sphere encompassing a small star. The Outlander also defeated all the other Machine Gods, including Izax, the strongest of the Six Gods. Tyth also confirmed the Outlander had enough energy to fully activate the Machine Gods and empower them. Vader was also more powerful than his student, Starkiller, with Starkiller being capable of destroying entire Imperial class Star Destroyers, despite even damaged Star Destroyers surviving gravity wells capable of compressing an entire planet into the size of an atom.

Furthermore, Vader is substantially stronger than a pair of twins born during the era of the Galactic Republic who, through their fighting, were able to create a star that persists to the current day. The nature of this story is dubious, and is contested among members of the blog, so it is thus not being used as the crux of our argument. However, it is a notable feat performed by Jedi that Anakin should be stronger than due to his connection to the Force, even as a Padawan, so we wish to make a small note of it here.

As such, Vader would be comfortably stronger than Obito. But even then the stat comparison is not done, as Vader can amp himself to become stronger in this fight through many different ways. Vader can absorb the energy Obito gives off through different jutsus and even turn back some of that energy against Obito himself, channeling the energies of his attacks, and turning them back against the attacker. He can also amplify his own Force powers through the attacks of his opponent and empower himself through Obito’s negative emotions while weakening Obito’s own strength in comparison. Dark Side empowerment has allowed Sith Lords in the past to one-shot foes who they were previously competing with, completely breaking through their defenses. As such, even if Vader would be hypothetically close to Obito in stats, he would be able to feed on sufficient Dark Side energies to create a one-shot gap. Dark Side empowerment also increases Vader’s healing factor and stamina. Through Force Rage, Vader uses his rage to gain extra health and increase lightsaber damage. Such an ability would also allow Vader to amplify his stats even further against Obito.

As for speed, Vader has consistently piloted ships through Hyperspace since he was young, giving him relativistic to FTL reactions through reacting to obstacles through Hyperspace lanes. As both Anakin and Vader, he has consistently deflected blaster bolts which are regarded as light speed, and is comparable to other Jedi who have acted within the timeframes of nanoseconds. Anakin was considered to be the fastest Jedi in the Clone Wars, allowing him to be considered faster than even his master, Obi-Wan, who was capable of deflecting thousands of blaster bolts from ten thousand distinct droids firing on him within a small area simultaneously.

Obito’s speed can upscale from Gaara’s feat of moving his sand at 123 c, however, Vader has his own feats and scaling of his own that can match and even exceed this. Vader should also be superior to his then amateur son, Luke, who was able to blitz a droid with perception speeds equal to 6.1 picoseconds, equaling over 28 times the speed of light, and potentially even 546 times the speed of light. Anakin was also able to battle and defeat Count Dooku, who was capable of dueling Mace Windu, a Jedi capable of seeing blaster bolts (which travel at light speed!) as frozen, giving him perceptions that range from 106 to 500 times the speed of light. However, it should be noted, that this calculation utilizes the proportional speed of an average human, while Mace Windu is an extremely athletic Jedi Knight on the level of the best generals the Jedi Order has to offer, meaning he would upscale this as well. And this is without Force speed, as Mace was only using Force senses throughout this instance, while Force speed amps the speed of an individual to levels where they are able to blitz people who they previously were similar in speed to.

The Dark Side wielder Kar Vastor was also able to fight Mace Windu repeatedly, despite being magnitudes below Vader in combat capacity, with Kar himself being compared to a young Anakin, indicating that Anakin grew in speed throughout his journey as a Sith Lord. As such, the scaling chain for Vader with regard to speed would be as follows, Vader + Force speed + Dark Side Empowerment >> Vader + Force speed >>> Kar Vastor ~ Anakin >~ Dooku ~ Mace Windu > 106c - 500c. This is consistent with calculations regarding Luke’s blitzing of Guri, and as such, Vader should be comfortably blitzing Obito as well.

Arsenal & Abilities

When it comes to their arsenal and abilities, there's a significant amount to discuss regarding the clash between these two masked men. While Obito possesses a myriad of effective and practical weaponry such as his Gunbai, Kusari, Shurikens, and Kunais. All of which are likely being stored within Kamui's dimension, giving Obito access to them at all times. Vader's Lightsaber outshines all of them in proficiency and effectiveness, reliably incising the majority of Obito's armory both in close proximity and at a distance, facilitated by Vader's aptitude in executing the Saber Throw technique. Most of their unique abilities are also useless when faced against the Dark Lord of the Sith. Vader does not utilize Ninjutsu, diminishing the chances of Obito performing a Uchiha Return with his Gunbai and the Bijū-piercing Shurikens will only serve as an annoyance when faced with Vader's incredible durability. Moving on to their diverse range of abilities, a superficial analysis might lead one to believe that Obito dominates this category, with his multitude of jutsus, powers derived from his Sharingan and Rinnegan, access to the Six Paths of Pain, and the immense power bestowed upon him as the Ten-Tails Jinchūriki. However, upon comparing his extensive arsenal to Vader's, Obito's abilities are susceptible to being countered by the Sith Lord's impressive capabilities.

Take, for instance, Vader's mind-reading capability, which enables the Sith Lord to acquire comprehensive knowledge about Obito without succumbing to any potential tricks from him. Although Obito possesses his own mental defenses, it has been demonstrated in Return of the Jedi that Vader can overpower the mental barriers of his equals like Luke. Vader has even been compared to the likes of Joruus C’baoth and Darth Plagueis, beings who can touch and manipulate all the minds within planets and galaxies. A potency only even remotely matched in Naruto by the likes of the Infinite Tsukuyomi, and even that is surpassed. Consequently, Obito becomes susceptible to Vader's intrusion into his thoughts, allowing him to deduce the necessary plan of attack. Additionally, Obito is not impervious to mental probing, and while he can expel someone from his mind, he remains vulnerable for a brief moment. With Vader’s mind probing abilities, he could view Obito’s entire life in an instant and quickly learn the source and nature of his powers. Subsequently, Vader's array of Force abilities present a swift and effective counter to Obito's entire arsenal.

With his telekinetic prowess and mastery of Tutaminis, Vader has the ability to lock down all of Obito's long-range options, compelling the Masked Sage to rely solely on an up-close duel. Additionally, Vader can utilize Tutaminis and Consume Essence to wield Obito's own power and negative emotions against him. This allows Vader to heal any wounds inflicted by Obito or enhance his own abilities, further widening the gap between their strengths. To make matters worse for Obito, the imposition of Vader's impervious Force Barriers severely constricts Obito's capacity to inflict consequential harm during close-quarter duels, given that breaching the formidable fortifications established by Vader proves to be a herculean task due to Vader's augmented reservoir of power. The former Jedi's training under Ulic Qel-Droma would also grant him resistance to having his Force Barriers drained or absorbed by the Rinnegan's Preta Path. Moreover, Vader's experience with the Dark Reaper equips him to resist effects similar to Obito's Human Path, and Bane's experience with the Valley of the Jedi clearly displays that the Sith can overpower attempts to seal their souls, making summoning the King of Hell an useless endeavor. Vader's mastery and command over the Force also provide effective solutions against the Deva Path, as the versatility of the Force allows him to pinpoint and crush vital organs more effectively than what the Deva Path offers Obito. This is without mentioning the sheer range and telekinetic power granted by the Force, which dwarfs any use of the Deva Path. As for the Animal Path, Vader can employ Beast Control to bend any creature summoned by Obito to his will or alternatively immobilize them using Telekinesis or Force Stasis. Lastly, despite Obito's impressive Genjutsu skills, they would not pose a significant threat to The Chosen One due to the Force's ability to provide formidable mental defenses, which effectively resist complex layered illusion-based techniques such as Genjutsu.

Vader can employ Immovability to anchor himself and resist being pulled into Kamui's dimension. Despite being a formidable technique, even inexperienced Padawans can briefly halt and overpower Star Destroyers, and Vader's apprentice, Starkiller, has displayed a comparable accomplishment using his mastery of the Force. It is worth noting that Star Destroyers are vessels designed to endure and escape the gravitational forces exerted by a black hole. These are far more potent pulls than anything Kamui has displayed, and Vader directly applies his telekinesis to himself to use Immovability. With Immovability turning you into the very concept of an immovable object, unflinching to hyperspace drives and supermassive blackholes at the center of the galaxy. However, Kamui possesses another remarkable ability, which is intangibility; however, this power is not without its limitations. The most significant drawback of Kamui is that whenever Obito utilizes it for an attack, his own intangibility is deactivated, making him vulnerable to being seized. This vulnerability has been exploited in the past, leaving Obito exposed to potentially fatal strikes from the Sith Lord. Taking advantage of this weakness, Konan strategically positioned Paper Bombs around Obito, prepared to attach them to him the moment he materialized. This is analogous to Vader due to his proficiency with the Force, which exists omnipresently throughout all beings and everywhere, allowing him to attack Obito’s vital organs while he’s tangible. It should also be noted that Obito does not become immune to physics nor gravity when phasing, thus the telekinetic aspects of the Force should be capable of effecting him. The Force has also demonstrated the ability to interact with and attack beings from across space-time dimensions. Effectively invalidating Obito’s only form of phasing through attacks, and making him a sitting duck with no way to protect himself from Vader’s Force Crushes or Grips.

Simply put, Vader has a noteworthy amount of counters for a majority of Obito's capabilities in this fight. In fact, he may not even need to concern himself with everything mentioned earlier. Both combatants possess some degree of precognitive ability, but Obito relies on memorizing enemy movements to anticipate their next actions, while Vader's precognition grants him clear insights into the future, making it the more advantageous skill. While the Mangekyō Sharingan does have statements of gazing upon the future, in actuality, this works to Obito's detriment rather than in his favor; as the Dark Side obscures the future and hampers the effectiveness of others' precognitive abilities. With Vader's ability to predict Obito's tactics and read his mind, he can effectively employ techniques like Shatterpoint, which can specifically target and neutralize Obito's Sharingan and Rinnegan, depriving him of his most powerful abilities. It's important to note that this assessment thus far has only considered Obito in his base form. The inclusion of the Ten-Tails Jinchūriki further complicates this already intricate debate.

Obito, as the Ten-Tails Jinchūriki, gains various extraordinary abilities. These include the power to shape Truth-Seeking Balls. These versatile orbs serve multiple purposes, acting as both offensive weapons and defensive barriers. Furthermore, they have the power to erase matter at a sub-atomic level, nullify other sources of power, destroy souls and even erase space-time. Additionally, Obito's tenure as the Ten-Tails Jinchūriki grants him a remarkable healing factor, enabling him to regenerate half of his body within seconds. However, Vader possesses effective counters against even Obito's unique powers bestowed to him as the Ten-Tails Jinchūriki. Regarding Obito's healing factor, Vader's precise mastery of the Force allows him to target vital areas such as the heart or head, parts that Obito's healing factor has not demonstrated the ability to regenerate, potentially defeating the Uchiha permanently. Alternatively, Vader could employ Vaporization, a technique that completely obliterates its target, surpassing Obito's regeneration capabilities. Combustion is also a potential option to cause Obito’s body to explode. Concerning the Truth-Seeking Balls, aside from Vader evading or redirecting them with the Force, his Force Spirit renders him immune to soul-based destruction, making it difficult to defeat him permanently. Vader's encounters with the Dark Reaper, which decays victims at a subatomic level, and his duel with Starkiller, who possesses atomizing power, renders the Truth-Seeking Balls ineffective against him. Lastly, Luke and Leia have demonstrated resistance to Sidious' influence, whose mere presence can tear open the fabric of time and space, and they even survived his Force Storm and escaped as it was attempting to devour and erase them. Given Vader's comparable Force capabilities to his children, he can resist the Truth Seeking Balls' ability to erase space-time as well.

Disregarding all of these factors, Vader would probably remain unaffected by the Truth Seeking-Balls. Force Barriers and Defenses, generated by Force energy, would act as formidable defenses against them. The Living Force, a fundamental aspect of the Force, bears striking resemblance to Senjutsu, which cannot be nullified by the Truth-Seeking Balls. Consequently, Vader can effortlessly maintain these for extended periods, spanning hours. All basic Force-abilities are also generated through the Living Force, adding to Vader’s counters through Telekinesis. Vader's presence also passively produces a 'power-null' effect; poisoning the Force, muddying the waters for Jedi, and making connecting to the Force nearly impossible. While Obito does resist 'power-null', this extends to his own Truth-Seeking Balls; which can nullify Ninjutsu, but not Senjutsu. This greatly damages Obito as, under the equalization, Vader would be constantly nullifying most of his Six Paths Senjutsu techniques, muddying his perception and powers. Rebuke and Negate Energy can aid Vader with this too, as they specifically deflect Force Powers and turn them against the user. Thus, Obito would be incapable of even utilizing his Six Paths Senjutsu abilities and making the Truth-Seeking Balls worthless. Despite all this, there is one ability that Obito possesses which presents a greater challenge for Vader compared to the others.

Specifically, Obito can use a forbidden Jutsu known as Izanagi. This particular Jutsu has the ability to manipulate reality, undoing any harm inflicted on its user. It is also described in the anime as a means to reshape an undesirable reality into a more favorable fate. With such an invincible ability at Obito's disposal, Vader would initially struggle to seal the deal. However, there is a catch to using Izanagi. Once activated, it permanently blinds and renders the eye that cast it useless. In Obito's case, he can maintain the power of Izanagi for approximately 5 minutes. Fortunately, Vader has the means to counter Izanagi. Vader possesses abilities such as Force Senses, Shatterpoint, and the power to read and probe the minds of others, which allow him to perceive the hidden technique of the Sharingan. This awareness enables him to destroy Obito's eye before Izanagi can be cast. Furthermore, if Obito manages to activate Izanagi, Vader's superior stats and Force enhancements give him an advantage in outlasting the five-minute duration and striking Obito down. Moreover, since Izanagi relies on the user's conscious awareness of their preferred reality, Vader's mental abilities may be capable of influencing Obito's psyche to the extent that his application of Izanagi poses no threat to Vader. To add onto this, under the anime’s explanation of Izanagi ‘leading reality to a new fate’, Vader would potentially be able to bypass this through having shared resistance to similar Dark Side abilities as his son. For example, Luke in Shadows of Mindor, due to his Jedi training, was able to resist Cronal’s Darksight powers, which could map out all possible futures and fates and actualize the future that best suits the user. Luke specifically stated he did not have sufficient Jedi training most Old Jedi had at this time, and the Emperor himself did not have sufficient knowledge regarding Darksight, indicating that Luke’s resistance was not through any Force technique he used himself, but through sheer Force potency. This is supported as well, since Luke’s resistance is brought up in the context of his Force potency, via his ‘Force-empowered’ will and ‘unparalleled connection to the Force.’ Luke also subconsciously (without knowing that Cronal or Darksight existed) resisted the fate of him becoming the Emperor’s apprentice after the Battle of Yavin as enforced by Cronal’s Sith magic. As such it is possible to scale Vader to his son in resisting techniques that could rewrite fate itself and warp reality, like Izanagi. So despite Izanagi being an extremely useful ability in Obito’s favor, Vader's versatility and power with his Force abilities grant him enough counters to either stop Obito from casting Izanagi at all or wait out the 5 minute time limit Obito has with Izanagi. To summarize, while Obito certainly possesses a varied and powerful arsenal of abilities, Vader’s Force powers provide him just enough counters that he needs to net him this category against his opponent.

Tertiary Factors

Comparing the combat proficiency of the combatants in pitched battles, Vader typically has more impressive feats, as he is capable of competing with the finest duelists and masters of the Force in galactic history. Refer back to the skill section if you want something more in-depth, but essentially, Vader's ability to overwhelm fighters on the level of Count Dooku, Darth Maul, and even himself ensure his dominance in this category. Even as Anakin Skywalker he was said to be the best Jedi in the order, and as Vader he would only continue exceeding his previous self as he gained more knowledge and experience in the Dark Side.

Vader has studied and mastered most if not all forms of lightsaber combat, and is capable of defeating opponents stated to have perfect technique in hand to hand matches easily. He can battle against powerful Sith such as Starkiller for hours without being struck a single time. Obito would certainly encounter difficulty in attempting to surprise Vader or maneuver around him.

In comparison, Obito is capable of fighting ninjas trained from childhood, and can do battle against multiple of the most skilled warriors in the world. He was even mistaken for Madara Uchiha on several occasions due to his combat prowess. However, Vader’s experience fighting various types of opponents far exceed his, and his direct feats of skill simply outclass Obito’s due to the sheer magnitude of them. Even as a padawan, Vader was said to have seen more combat than any of the Jedi Masters, and he would go on to hunt the Jedi and the enemies of the Empire for decades as Darth Vader.

Conclusion

"All I am surrounded by is fear, and dead men."

Advantages:

  • Takes the entire stat trinity

  • Widens the stat-gap through the use of Force Fear, Force Speed, Consume Essence, Focused Rage, Force Feed, Force Rage, Tutaminis, and Dark Side Empowerment; granting Vader severe stat increases and allowing him to feed on Obito’s negative emotions, while depowering him

  • Smarter (i.e. better engineer, pilot, general, etc.), with far greater skill, experience and training

  • Greater precognition, especially with double vision, and can likely negate Obito’s own precognition

  • Superb sensory capabilities through the Force, easily eclipsing those granted by Six Path Senjutsu. Shatterpoint provides a way to remove the Sharingan and Rinnegan from the fight entirely

  • Passively negates Six Paths Senjutsu, which Obito overly relies on as the Ten Tails Jinchūriki

  • Force Kinesis allows for far more powerful, complex, precise and potent control than the Deva Path's control over attractive and repulsive forces

  • Can absorb Obito's attacks and chakra through Tutaminis

  • Perfect counters and resistances to Obito’s most powerful abilities (i.e. TSOs, Human Path, Genjutsu, Kamui and Izanagi)

  • His mental abilities could overpower Obito’s resistances due to higher potency and layers, and allow Vader to gain knowledge of Obito's backstory and abilities near instantly

  • Based and Ewokpilled

  • Everything that you did, he’s the motherfucker who invented it

  • HE HAS A SON!!!!!!!!!! (AND A DAUGHTER TOO)

Disadvantages:

  • His life support system is necessary for him to survive, although he can endure without it for extended periods

  • Less mobile

  • Likely can't escape Obito's pocket dimension if fully trapped inside

  • Spamming double vision tires him out

  • Weaker healing/regenerative abilities

  • Is a filthy liar

In conclusion, Vader exceeds Obito in all of the most pertinent categories such as power, speed, durability, and combative skill. With his various means of amplifying himself with the Force and the Dark Side, Vader can further widen the already high disparity in strength, and with his powers and resistances, he can potentially counter Obito’s more dangerous abilities. With his Telekinesis and Combustion, he has options to kill Obito immediately and end the battle swiftly as possible. With his Force senses and precognition, he’d know to attack Obito’s eyes from the beginning, nullifying most of his arsenal.

Obito does have more overall versatility on his side, but the Force acts as a potent enough answer to most of his options. It has effective counters or immunities to Genjutsu, the Rinnegan, Truth-Seeking Orbs, Kamui, and Regeneration. Obito’s Izanagi is extremely powerful; the ability to rewrite reality to a favorable outcome of one’s desire isn’t exactly something to scoff at, but you can argue Vader has plenty of ways to deal with it, and it is a limited ability.

While Obito could always try to stock up on more Sharingan, it isn’t an in-character argument for him to do so during a fight, and Vader can stop Obito from teleporting with Force Grip. His Force amplifications and feeding off of Obito’s negative emotions will always keep him a step ahead as well, while draining Obito over time. Obito only has so much chakra; while repeated use of the Force can be taxing, Vader isn’t going to be running out of energy to wield. Obito is a most impressive opponent, but Darth Vader is simply on a whole nother level of Legends craziness, bro.

Obito Uchiha

Stats

Obito’s base feats and scaling are pretty straightforward all things considered. In base, Obito would scale above the various Akatsuki members who are strong enough to fight Jinchūriki and specifically tank the Tailed Beast Bomb of the Two-Tails which would hit around 60 petatons. Speed wise, he’d scale to the myriad of faster than light feats performed across the series such as Itachi’s Tsukuyomi feat which reaches around 3 to 7 times the speed of light. However, most impressively, he’d scale to characters such as Gaara who could react to and block A’s light speed attack, moving his sand at 123 times the speed of light. Obito only gets stronger and faster from this point on when we get to when he absorbed the Ten-Tails.

As the Ten-Tails Jinchūriki, Obito would scale to the complete power of multiple Tailed Beast Bombs which would hit 301 petatons. However, these feats are small beans in comparison to the many higher feats characters on this level perform. As the Ten-Tails Jinchūriki, Obito would of course scale to its feat of being the Chibaku Tensei’s gravity core to create the moon which puts Obito at a strong 69 to 626 zettatons of TNT. This level of power is supported by the fact that, while he’s in his Ten-Tails Jinchūriki state, Obito would be stronger than a 2nd form Ten-Tails, who’s Juubi Bomb created a massive explosion that launched several mountains in the air. Accounting for the difference in surface area between the blast and the mountain, the explosion can get a total yield of 21 zettatons to 2 yottatons of TNT.

When you compare the feats and scaling for both Obito and Vader, it’s quite clear that Vader does possess a decent advantage to Obito in terms of raw power with him scaling to a feat that reaches 6-9 yottatons of TNT, compared to Obito whose best counter would be scaling to the Juubi’s 2 yottaton feat. Being generous to both, Vader is anywhere from 3 to 4.5 times stronger than Obito - notable, but not insurmountable, especially when you take into account the various tricky abilities and tactics Obito can employ in combat.

For speed, things get a tad bit more complex. The higher ends for Vader of course sit at being 4-5x swifterr than any feat Obito could scale to, but that is only if you use the absolute highest ends. The feat where Mace Windu supposedly sees a blaster bolt frozen in midair is potentially not quite as good on second glance; the text moreso seems to describe the sniper squeezing the trigger with his finger about to fire a bolt. The bolt hasn’t been launched yet, so logically it can’t be frozen in midair to Mace. In regards to Luke blitzing the assassin droid Guri, it isn’t explicit if he was actually moving faster than her reaction speed or her perception speed, and the result would be lower for the former. Overall, while Obito may be somewhat outgunned in terms of raw power, he actually possesses a speed advantage against the powerful Sith, granting him more opportunities to use his powerful abilities.

Arsenal & Abilities

With a vast array of abilities at his beck and call, Obito has no shortage of ways to both approach the battle and adjust his strategy throughout. From the outset, Obito’s Mangekyō Sharingan will always be observing Vader’s actions, giving Obito a constant flow of information, allowing him to make any necessary adjustments as the battle progresses. Due to being less powerful than Vader in base, Obito will spend the majority of the fight relying on his abilities to let him observe Vader’s combative tendencies and habits. For example, with Kamui’s intangibility, he can avoid anything that would immediately kill him, giving him the necessary information about how Vader goes in for a kill, allowing him to adjust his strategy, or even exploit Vader’s tactics. With the Mangekyō Sharingan and Rinnegan active at the same time, he will have every single combative and reactive option open to him, meaning anything Obito wants to do, he will be able to act on it as he sees fit.

By having so many ways he can utilize his abilities, he will gradually become more and more unpredictable, and Vader will find that Obito won’t be defeated easily or quickly. While Vader’s connection to the Force is absolutely breathtaking when he is focused, it is not without its risks. Vader could very well overexert himself battling Obito’s sheer variety and lack of predictable methods. The Mangekyō Sharingan and Rinnegan ensure Obito has a way to counter Vader and his abilities, and with Obito’s constant versatility, Vader isn’t likely to stay focused on a single technique or ability. Vader will simply try to find whatever methods get through Obito defenses, and Obito can simply keep employing new abilities and techniques to counter. While he isn’t shown utilizing them, he does canonically know how to use lightning attacks, which as we know from Return of the Jedi would be fatal to Vader. Each and every time Vader acts, whether it to be his abilities, or his reaction to Obito’s abilities, it will continue to provide Obito with information to guide his strategy

One of the defining traits of the Sith as a whole, is their arrogance and overconfidence. Despite being the Chosen One, and one of the most powerful Force sensitives in galactic history, Darth Vader is no different than anyone who came before or after him. While Vader is a skilled and tactically sound combatant, he is not impervious to making tactical errors. If he identifies an inferior opponent, he has demonstrated his typical strategy to be a swift and brutal offensive, true to the preferred discipline, Form V: Djem So. Due to Obito in base being inferior to Vader in terms of power, Vader could fall for this assumption, and try to kill Obito as swiftly and with as much power possible, and make use of psychological warfare to undermine Obito and disregard his abilities, which would not work against Obito, who wouldn’t be remotely intimated by Vader. This assumption, if employed, will be detrimental to Vader in the long-term. Obito’s abilities will render Vader’s efforts ineffective, and he will have used it for nothing, and, when Obito is able to strike back, Vader will have to completely alter his strategy mid-battle. This would be problematic for Vader, who has to either compensate with Force abilities that Obito can counter, or going on the defensive, which would give Obito the chance he needs to fight back. And because Obito will have spent the entire fight up until this point analyzing Vader’s habits and tactics, he will know to make a cautious decision when employing his own offensive approach.

Eventually however, Obito will understand that his conventional tactics and weaponry are completely ineffective against an opponent like Darth Vader. He will see that prolonging the fight in his current state is a worthless endeavor. So he will take the necessary measures to summon the Ten-Tails and seal the fearsome Tailed Beast inside him. Once Obito assumes full control, his impressive regenerative healing, allowing him to regenerate as much as half his body, will make Vader’s lightsaber a rather ineffective weapon against him. What’s more, Obito’s Truth-Seeking Balls will give him even more versatility, having both offensive and defensive applications. He will have the means to survive and regenerate from attacks that would have killed him in base, and put Vader through one hell of a challenge. Vader can definitely turn Obito’s Truth-Seeking Balls back at him, but due to possessing a massive amount of Six Paths Chakra via the Ten-Tails, will be immune to the effects of his Truth-Seeking Balls, so Obito isn’t going to have any problems with his own tools being turned against him. This combined with his ability to replenish Truth-Seeking Balls, the only thing he has to worry about is the limits of his chakra supply. It is unknown exactly how much Obito receives when becoming the Ten-Tails Jinchūriki, but he would undoubtedly be capable of lasting for long periods of time, more than enough to endure Vader’s onslaught, though not without careful use of his abilities. In the event that Obito can use Izanagi as the Ten-Tails Jinchūriki, that gives Obito complete comprehensive control over reality, and in doing so, Vader can’t turn it off once it’s active, and Obito has every opportunity to make Vader’s ally seem insignificant next to the power of the Sage of Six Paths.

Obito’s regenerative healing, combined with a plethora of versatile abilities that sufficiently narrow the gap between him and Vader, will pressure the Dark Lord of the Sith beyond anything Obito was capable of before, and it will only take Vader making a single mistake before it ends up costing him his life. Though Obito himself will be pushed beyond any foe he has battled before, but with regenerative healing that will keep him alive, and the applications of Truth-Seeking Balls, and a constant stream of information of Vader coming his way, he will eventually conceive a perfect plan to either make Vader slip up, or simply develop a creative application of his abilities to secure his victory.

Tertiary Factors

In terms of training and experience, both Obito and Vader have years of fighting countless skilled and varied opponents. In terms of sheer variety in opponents, Obito has faced countless Shinobi from all over the world, each with their own jutsu and those who had trained with the most skilled and powerful Shinobi in the world. Vader on the other hand has fought countless incredibly skilled and versatile Jedi and surpassed many of them in sheer skill and power. While Vader would overall have the advantage in skill, Obito and Vader would even out in the experience category.

However, one may be able to argue that Obito’s tactical skill and intellect surpasses Vader’s. This is due to numerous reasons: Obito has showcased various skill showings of matching highly-skilled and strategic shinobi. These include the likes of Minato Namikaze as well as Kakashi Hatake. Minato is a gifted Shinobi within Naruto, rising through the ranks in the ninja world to become not only a teacher, but a Hokage. He’s developed entirely new Jutsu before and is able to implement previous Jutsu into his fighting style to greater extents, only furthering his fighting capabilities. His skill and prowess is certainly impressive, and despite that, he met his match with Obito Uchiha; and that was when he was only fourteen years old

Obito is consistently a tactical genius, on the same level as his past partner, Kakashi. Kakashi specifically, is essentially a child soldier who quickly adapted to and became renowned for the usage of one of the most powerful dojutsu in the series, the Sharingan. He even earned a name for himself as the Copy Ninja; as he was revered for copying over a thousand Jutsu. Additionally, Kakashi is often portrayed as comparable to Shikamaru, another shinobi who's consistently referred to as a genius. As such, these are who Obito compares to, and he manages to combine his skills and abilities effectively to outsmart his opponents. Vader is quite comparable, but his focus is less on the tactical aspect of combat and more on the logistical side. Still, these two are certainly evenly matched, however you could argue Obito has an edge in this regard, just due to how consistent his tactics are able to rival and even surpass other highly-skilled and intelligent fighters.

Conclusion

“Look! There is nothing in my heart! I don't even feel pain! You don't have to feel guilty, Kakashi. This wind hole was opened by this hell of a world.”

Advantages:

  • Likely faster

  • Arguably better tactician

  • Wider array of techniques

  • Superior healing ability as the Ten-Tails Jinchūriki

  • Some of his haxier options could easily win him the fight

  • Izanagi would allow Obito to become essentially invincible against all of Vader’s options for 5 minutes

  • Via summons has the numbers advantage

  • Can likely negate a lot of Vader’s general options such as mind control and soul manipulation

  • Vader would not be able to escape being displaced in a pocket dimension if Kamui is accurately pulled off

  • Was the coolest guy

  • His theme can make a grown man cry

Disadvantages:

Overall, we do believe Obito has what it takes to come out as the victor at the end of this fight. First off, in terms of stats, Obito is pretty impressive even in just his base form. He's one of the strongest members of the Akatsuki, and weaker members such Kakuzu and Hidan tanked a Tailed Beast Bomb from the Two-Tails, a feat worth 60 petatons of TNT. In addition, he should certainly scale to Gaara, who blocked the Fourth Raikage’s light-speed attack, reaching 123 times the speed of light. Again, this is just Obito in his base.

As the Ten-Tails Jinchūriki, Obito gets a massive boost in both power and speed. The Ten-Tails itself had served as the gravity core for the Chibaku Tensei that created the moon, which at its highest is 626 zettatons of TNT. Not only that, but a Tailed Beast Bomb from just the Ten-Tails' second form was enough to send several mountains into the air, which is 2 yottatons at max. Sure, while this isn't enough to exceed Vader’s own raw power, it does close the gap to a 3 to 4.5 times difference. It also helps that the best speed feats Vader could scale to are shaky and not quite reliable.

In terms of abilities, Obito's techniques are much wider and more versatile. With just his Mangekyo Sharingan alone, the masked Uchiha can observe his opponent's actions to make the necessary adjustments to ensure his survival. Add in the Rinnegan, and Obito will get to see every action and reaction Vader will take in response to the abilities of both dojutsu eyes. This would allow Obito to better analyze the Sith Lord and force Vader to change tactics, which can lead to a fatal error that Obito can capitalize on.

By becoming the Ten-Tails Jinchūriki, Obito gains a powerful healing factor that'll let him survive any form of punishment Vader might dish out. Then there are the Truth-Seeking Balls, which will provide Obito more offensive and defensive options for him to use. And because Obito possesses Six Path Chakra in this form, he doesn't have to worry about Vader using the TSB against him. While it's not exclusive to this form, Izanagi give Obito some control over reality that the Sith Lord has no counter to.

In the tertiary factors, it's true that both Vader and Obito are pretty even when it comes to experience. However, we will point out that Obito has fought a wider array of opponents, each with their own style of ninjutsu. While the Sith Lord may have the edge in skill, Obito has the advantage in tactics and intelligence. At just fourteen years old, he was able to beat his former sensei Minato Namikaze. This is impressive as Minato climbed the ranks to become Konoha’s fourth Hokage, had created entirely new jutsus, and furthered his fighting capabilities by implementing and improving old jutsus.

However, Minato isn't the only one Obito can be compared to. His former teammate Kakashi is shown throughout the series as a tactical genius as he was able to master the Sharingan despite not being an Uchiha and is infamous for copying over a thousand jutsus. Obito proved himself to be at that same level and even outsmarted Kakashi. Let's not forget the fact that Obito served as a hidden mastermind behind the scenes, manipulating the Akatsuki and the rest of the Ninja World and orchestrating certain events to take place.

In the end, despite not having the same level of raw power as his opponent, Obito can get around it with his speed and hax. The Uchiha’s healing factor, wide arsenal of abilities, and dojutsu will ensure his survival by countering Darth Vader's own abilities and providing a useful analysis of the Sith Lord. Lastly, Obito's intellect as a tactical genius will give him control over the fight, pushing Vader to a path where he cannot escape. From the dark side will rise a new dawn, and the Eye of the Moon will shine with Obito Uchiha standing over the fallen Sith Lord.

  1. Kinda feels like you're admitting the people voting for Vader not not know as much about Obito and thus might not be able to make an informed decision.

Especially considering last time you gave this to Obito.

  3. Pretty good blog, clear there was a good amount of passion going around here. Do feel like Vader's verdict was a lot stronger after reading through both though. Obviously there was the disclaimer about there being more people interested in Star Wars here than Naruto, but it did feel like Obito's Verdict did not talk about what it needed to.
Still as I said before good blog, could still see either winning the episode tomorrow since Obito's Verdict still had solid points regardless. Oh and also because of my tinfoil hat but that's besides the point.
