Death Battle Predictions: Freeza VS Megatron (2023)

Freeza, the Cold (haha get it) Emperor of the Universe from Dragon Ball.

Megatron, the Deceptive (get that one too) Leader of the Decepticons from Transformers.

The stars beyond are filled to the brim with endless possibilities that many would love to explore and experience. However, some people are not merely content with said experience. Whether it be for personal gain or through misguided actions, some would desire nothing more than to reach out and take those possibilities…and keep them trapped in their grasp forever.

These galactic tyrants are here to have a cosmic face off, so let’s cut straight to it: will Freeza put the Decepticon leader through Hell, or will Megatron make the emperor have to go Mecha for a second time? You know the drill by now, so let’s get to it as we determine who would win, a DEATH BATTLE!

So yeah time to talk about David vs Goliath.

Before We Start…

What is being used for Freeza is pretty simple to explain. He will be receiving the original Dragon Ball continuity (everything from the original series to the end of Dragon Ball Z), as well as both the Dragon Ball Super anime and manga. Guide books such as the Daizenshuu will also be considered. Likewise, any material worked on by Toriyama will be looked into. Overall, same type of breakdown as previous Dragon Ball characters that have been on the show excluding Heroes related content.

Megatron is a bit (read: much) more complicated however… Since there are several different versions of the character across countless distinct series, for the sake of this blog we will only be covering media specifically intertwined with the G1 series. That being the original G1 cartoon and movie, G1 Toy Bios, Beast Wars, G1 comics (US and UK), IDW Comics, etc. The elephant in the room however is the Japanese G1 series, which has had by far the most divisive opinions over its usage. Due to lack of general knowledge about its version of Megatron, and differences with the more well known G1 content people are familiar with, Japanese G1 will be excluded from this blog… sort of. You’ll understand what we mean later on, trust us.

Background

Freeza

"I doubt I need an introduction, but just in case, I am the mighty Freeza, and yes, all the horrible stories you've heard are true."

Across the vast macrocosm of the 7th universe, practically every world was aware of the terrifying might of the Intergalactic Cold Empire, led by its tyrannical ruler, King Cold. With a galactic force unlike any other, King Cold was easily able to conquer planets and civilizations one by one, such as the Warrior Race known as Saiyans on the planet Vegeta. Eventually, King Cold’s rule would come to an end but instead of giving all his conquered planets the freedom they desired, he passed his entire empire to his son, Freeza.

By the time Freeza inherited his father’s empire, he had already surpassed King Cold in power and cruelty. What’s more, just like his mutant father, Freeza was naturally gifted with enormous power, which allowed him to terrorize his subjects without ever needing to train. However, even with all his incredible power, Freeza’s arrogance didn’t blindsight him to the powers that could possibly oppose him. In particular, the Saiyans that served Freeza stuck out as a problem: If the Saiyans were to ever rally against Freeza, it could prove to be a threat to Freeza’s rule, especially if the legends of the Super Saiyan were to be true. So after careful consideration and a talk with the God of Destruction, Beerus, Freeza came to the most logical conclusion and destroyed Planet Vegeta, nearly wiping out the entire Saiyan race in the process. And just like that, with few surviving Saiyans either spread across the universe or serving under his thumb, Freeza was free to continue his reign across the universe. 

Eventually, Freeza’s universal conquest brought him to the planet Namek, not only for adding another planet to his empire, but also for the fabled Dragon Balls. With the goal of collecting all seven wish-granting orbs, Freeza hoped to be granted his lifelong wish of immortality. However, his plans would be challenged by Vegeta, who Freeza effortlessly cut down, and another unknown Saiyan survivor, Son Goku. Despite Goku putting all of his power and effort into taking down Freeza, it wasn’t enough to put a stop to the intergalactic tyrant. Eventually, after Freeza slaughtered Goku’s best friend Krillin in cold blood, Goku would achieve the legendary power that Freeza feared all those years ago, the might of a Super Saiyan. After a hard battle, Goku would defeat Freeza, but miraculously (or, unfortunately). Freeza survived the planet’s destruction. Through advanced sciences, Freeza was given cybernetic enhancements and set his sights on Earth to destroy Goku and his friends. Unfortunately (or, miraculously), his attempt for revenge would be foiled once again by a mysterious sword wielding Super Saiyan, who finally finished the job, ending the intergalactic tyrant's reign for good…

…Or so we thought. Many years later, Freeza would once again be resurrected thanks to his loyal followers who had found the Dragon Balls and wished him back to life. Once restored, Freeza decided to train for the first time in his entire life and prepare for a fateful rematch against Goku and Vegeta. Of course, given all the opponents Goku and Vegeta had fought since Freeza and their newly attained God forms, Freeza would create a new form to match his Saiyan rivals that was even more powerful than his final form: Golden Freeza. However, even with his brand new Golden Form, Goku and Vegeta were able to soundly defeat Freeza, crushing any hopes that he would resurrect ever again, FINALLY ENDING HIS LEGACY-

Is what we would be saying if not for an act of desperation later on by Goku. Goku would suggest and recruit Freeza for the Tournament of Power as their 10th fighter, promising Freeza that he would be brought back to life again if he helped save their universe from erasure. Despite Freeza’s initial untrusting nature, he proved to be a valuable asset in securing Universe 7’s victory in the Tournament of Power. And as promised, Freeza was revived by Whis, free to continue his reign once more. However, Freeza would not repeat his mistakes, and has now strived to keep improving far more than ever before. Only time will tell if this emperor will ever be stopped, but as long as Freeza is still around, the hope of intergalactic peace will forever be impossible.

Megatron

“I’ve heard it said that we only gain wisdom through suffering. And tonight, I intend to make you very wise.”

To many, space is just as much as an exciting frontier as it is almost entirely unknown. Life beyond the Earth can be just as far away from the planet as it could easily be right among us. In this case, in the relatively close Alpha Centauri system resides the planet of Cybertron. Despite it seeming like a purely technological world, it’s actually the home of a cyber-organic race of beings known as Transformers. Sadly, Cybertron is far from a peaceful planet as for eons, its people have been locked in a never ending conflict between two factions, the honorable Autobots and the ruthless Decepticons, with the latter being led by its formidable leader, Megatron.

However, across the Primax universal cluster that all G1 Transformers universes exist in, Megatron is a name with many different faces and many different backstories. In one universe, Megatron may be a robotic creation built to restart a millennia-old civil war between Autobots and Decepticons. In another, Megatron may be a humble Transformer who wished for nothing more than peaceful social reform against the unjust functionalist and caste-based society of Cybertron. But no matter how many incarnations of Megatron exist, Megatron will inevitably take up his role as leader of the Decepticon faction, all in the attempt to overthrow the current system of Cybertron for the glory of his people.

Additionally, in most continuities of Transformers, Megatron’s claim to control Cybertron would always resort in a seemingly chance encounter with an Autobot named Orion Pax. This event would always prove to be Megatron’s undoing as, in every one, Orion would go from an Autobot beneath Megatron to being transformed into Optimus Prime, leader of the Autobot forces that would oppose Megatron’s Decepticons time and time again. With both sides of Autobots and Decepticons having two of the most formidable Transformers in Cybertron history, the war between both factions would wage for thousands of years all with the hope of either side leading Cybertron to one’s rule.

Surprisingly, despite Megatron’s tyrannical and cruel outlook, Megatron deep down still cares about Cybertron and its people, sometimes wishing for nothing more than to see his planet prosper rather than be stuck in conflict. Such as how in certain continuities, when Cybertron is under the risk of dying, Megatron would lead his Decepticon army for intergalactic conquest all with the hope of gathering resources to preserve the planet that he loves with all his heart. Unfortunately, even though Megatron shares a goal of preserving Cybertron’s peace like Optimus, the two’s differing ideologies made it so that they would more often than not be on opposing sides rather than allies.

With that being said, in the event of greater cosmic adversaries that threaten Cybertron and beyond, Megatron is capable of putting his opinions about Autobots aside and work together with Optimus to fight for something greater. What’s more, certain iterations of Megatron have also realized the error of their ways and strived to be a better person for Cybertron’s sake, to the point where Megatron even becomes a hero in the eyes of Transformers. But whether Megatron is viewed as a heroic champion of the Autobots or a ruthless tyrant of the cosmos, Megatron has proven as to why he is the leader of the Decepticons. So long as Megatron is still alive and kicking, he will fight on until the end, ensuring that the glory of Cybertron will never die.

Experience & Skill

Freeza

Believe it or not, despite his aversion to training, Freeza wound up being a master martial artist. While he primarily overpowers people with his sheer power, when he’s matched by equals who are master martial artists he’s able to keep up, such as against Goku, Dyspo, and Jiren. He’s shown to be capable of using every part of his body as a weapon, from his horns to his tail, and be able to target pressure points of his enemies, leaving them vulnerable for deadly finishers. He spent a lot of time training after his first death as well, training via torturing Tagoma (to the point where the latter was able to defeat the Z-Fighters until being beaten by Saiyans), and training in a place similar to the Hyperbolic Time Chamber. It most likely wasn’t just ki training. He’s even skilled enough to predict where the Yardrat teleport spammer Jimeze would wind up, consistently, and makes it apparent that it’s prediction and not his speed advantage. Keep in mind Gohan was getting creamed by this ability.

Additionally, Freeza can be quite the tactician. He has to be in order to run an army. He’s used to exploiting weaknesses and his surroundings when possible to gain the advantage. Would that be blowing up the planet to deprive his foe of oxygen, killing Paragus to push Broly into attaining the Super Saiyan transformation, or using his telekinetic powers in creative ways to catch opponents off guard. Overall, he’s quite perceptive.

Freeza has also displayed several special techniques that don’t require the use of ki in battle, including:

Ruthless Blow: Freeza thrusts his hand through an opponent’s back.

Death Fork/HAIL Freeza: In his second form, Freeza flies towards an opponent and impales them with his horns.

Pressure Point Attack: Freeza paralyzes or knocks out his opponent by touching or hitting certain pressure points, though enough prolonged pressure can also kill them.

Punishing Rush: Freeza strikes his opponent in the stomach, before using his tail to hit their legs and turns them around, slaps them on the back, and finishes it off by appearing in front of them and backhand punching them in the face.

Grudgeless Strike: Freeza moves at high speeds and delivers a mighty punch straight to the face

It’s Just Getting Exciting!: Freeza kicks the opponent in the stomach, before kicking them again into the sky and punching them into the ground.

50% Power: Freeza first elbows his opponent in the first as he snickers. Afterwards, he then teleports behind and knocks them off the ground with a low roundhouse kick. However, he catches them by the neck with his tail and brings them closer to deliver an elbow to their ribs. Freeza finishes by tossing them away with his tail, dealing a great deal of damage as a result.

Death Break: A stomach punch followed by two roundhouse kicks finished with a hook kick straight to the stomach

You Thought That Was It?: Freeza dashes around his opponent with a punch to the face before they could attack and flies back to elbow them in the face. Finally, he inflicts a high amount of damage by punching his opponent to the ground.

Punishing Counter: If an opponent tries to attack him, Freeza will counter by turning around and back kicking before they could land their hit. He moves behind his opponent and inflicts a high amount of damage by blasting them away with a Death Cannon.

Megatron

In most continuities, given Megatron’s role as leader of the Decepticons, it means that Megatron’s been leading an army in a war against the Autobots for millions of years. In the original cartoon, Megatron has led the Decepticons for 9 million years, albeit having spent 4 million of those years in stasis, while in continuities like IDW he’s been leader for 4 million years straight. At points in the Great War, Megatron has spent millenia planning for individual battles that would be over in less than a day. Megatron is Optimus’ equal in skill and tactical strategy, down to both being able to make use of Omniglobes, which feed massive amounts of data to the user, in this case using it to attain and process information from a thousand battles at once. Literal libraries of data are being dumped on them simultaneously and they can form a plan around it. Even before leading the Decepticons, Megatron in IDW, Dreamwave, and Marvel has been in gladiatorial combat since he's been created, notable for his skill and having fought in dozens of battles.

Megatron is more than a match for some of the best fighters in his series in many continuities. This includes the likes of Optimus, who could outmatch Bludgeon, the master of the Cybertronian martial art Metallikato. Bludgeon can easily outfight Skids, someone with the special ability to quickly copy and perfect any talent they see and who used this ability to master Metallikato themselves. Megatron is himself a better fighter than Whirl, the rival to Cyclonus, and Cyclonus has been active for over 7 million years straight and was able to quickly match and outfight master swordsmen like Star Saber despite only being a novice with a blade. Fighters like Arcee are stated to be a master of all known Cybertronian weapons, and in other continuities, even micromasters like Iron Lift are stated to be proficient in, possibly a master of, all martial arts.

Equipment

Freeza

Hover Pod

A simple floating chair Freeza enjoys waiting in. He controls it with his mind. It doesn’t really do anything in combat, but it does make him look menacing. So that’s cool. In DBZ Kakarot, he's also shown to be able to fight in it. 

Scouter

Freeza was initially unable to sense ki, forcing him to rely on the same scouters as his army to locate ki signatures and determine the strengths of others. Though he has since learned to sense ki on his own, the scouter still has its benefits. With modern versions being able to communicate with other scouters, detect life forms on the other side of a planet, and provide specific numbers for measuring power levels.

Bio-Suit

While many other races wear other types of clothing, Buu’s hammer pants, Gogeta’s Metamoran vest, and more, Freeza and his race are special, in that their clothing is entirely biological. They can grow their own clothing and use it as natural armor. It’s even implied that the armor changes color depending on the user, where Freeza says that he specifically chose the golden color for his golden form. Any damage to the suit is repaired upon transformation, shown when Freeza was able to regrow part of his tail after it was Kienzan’d off by Krillin. While lower forms of Freeza have chinks in their armor where soft flesh is visible, his final form and beyond lack such weakness. Apparently, according to Xenoverse, Freeza’s is called the Z Fighting Suit.

Megatron

Energon

The food, blood, currency, ammunition, of Cybertronians. Energon powers everything on Cybertron, its weapons and its people, and Megatron is no exception. It's also useful to get away with violence in comics.

Antimatter Energon Cubes

In the episode ‘Roll for It,’ Megatron and the other Decepticons are able to generate antimatter within the energon cubes, which they can then use as throwable weapons. Thanks to this newfound equipment, Megatron states that he is able to reduce the autobots to dust and even molecules. Starscream supports this, stating that he is able to reduce the autobots' into atomic particles. Megatron can even amp himself with the antimatter energon cubes. However this isn't without fault as if Megatron lets the antimatter energon cubes to reach ignition temperature it will destroy him.

Energon Chains

In the episode ‘S.O.S. Dinobots,’ Megatron and the other Decepticons are able to wield energon chains, in which they function as well y’know chains. It's strong enough to restrain a weakened Optimus Prime. 

Fusion Cannon

His signature weapon, the nuclear charged fusion cannon, mounted on his right arm. The fusion cannon fires endless streams of energy powerful enough to destroy massive structures, as well as blow through most enemies, though Megatron often uses it to destroy and affect the environment in order to grant him a tactical advantage. And just like Flex Tape, it also works underwater. Besides energy, this cannon can also shoot out nitrogen and Ice blast, capable of creating large ice spikes or freezing the opponent easily. His cannon can also grab shit? The cannon can also create several giant fire geysers from the ground. Megatron can also nullify circuits and disrupt electron flow.

Antimatter Blaster

Whenever he grows tired of wielding his fusion cannon, Megatron can summon an antimatter blaster out of nowhere. This weapon is stated to be capable of “eating energy”.

Energon Mace

In close quarters combat, Megatron can create a mace made out of pure energy, which he was able to use sufficiently enough to battle and actually briefly defeat Optimus Prime.

Energon Shield

If need be, Megatron can project a shield in front of himself to protect himself from any attacks or would-be traitorous usurpers.

Particle Beam Cannon

A powerful weapon both Autobots and Decepticons can wield. Megatron can assemble a particle beam cannon weapons emplacement from his attachment accessories using the fusion cannon, however the latter is still his preferred weapon of choice.

Telescopic Laser Cannon

Alongside the Particle Beam Cannon, Megatron can also assemble a Telescopic Laser Cannon that connects to him as an over-shoulder weapons array, due to its telescopic properties, it further enhances Megatron's precision with his cannon.

Railgun

Unsurprisingly for a warrior who can literally turn himself into a gun, Megatron’s firearms list continues to grow. He also has a railgun, a very unique type of weapon that utilizes electromagnetism to deal damage. Rather than use explosive force, railguns propel a projectile forwards along two rails with electromagnetic power, giving it kinetic force to deal damage. Impressively, railguns can actually reach higher velocity than your explosive-powered tools, making them surprisingly dangerous. Megatron’s has been stated to be capable of leveling entire cities even without a full charge, so it’s clear that this weapon is a serious powerhouse in the Decepticon’s kit.

Swords

 

Through multiple iterations of Megatron toys, he is very commonly seen wielding swords of different kinds, and is highly adept and skilled at wielding them throughout most of his notable continuities. 

Buzzsaw

Megatron is able to project a buzzsaw to throw at his enemies. It seems that this buzzsaw’s movement can be guided by Megatron directly, allowing him to move it wherever he wants after it has been thrown. Why does he have this? We don't know.

War For Cybertron Weapons

Magma Frag Launcher: A grenade launcher that fires sticky explosives that can be detonated by the user at any time.

EMP Shotgun: A powerful shotgun, often used by scientist and soldier classes, with a surprisingly long range.

Neutron Assault Rifle: Your standard well balanced assault rifle. With its large clip and fast rate of fire, this gun can tear through targets quickly.

Energon Battle Pistol: A fusion between a pistol and a sniper that’s perfect for sniping the head off any foolish Autobot.

Scatter Blaster: Another shotgun weapon that while not as strong as the EMP, makes up for it with it by being full auto.

Energon Repair Ray: A ray that can be used to heal Cybertronians in critical health back to fighting condition in a matter of moments.

Null-Ray: Starscream signature weapon, in the Cybertron games they are a deadly sniping weapon capable of killing nearly anything with a single shot.

Energon Grenade: A grenade that creates a healing bubble when thrown.

Flak Grenade: A simple but strong frag grenade that can clear out groups fast

EMP-Grenade: Grenades that release an EMP temporarily disabling any nearby Cybertronian and leaving them vulnerable to attack.

Thermo Mine: These are less so landmines and more closer to a homing grenade that locks onto any nearby enemy.

X12 Scrapmaker: An extremely powerful minigun that starts off with a slow fire rate but can be charged up to tear apart enemies at a fast speed.

Plasma Cannon: A chargeable gun that fires a deadly ball of plasma.

Omniglobe

Also known as Hypercognizance shells, are sphere shaped shells which can feed massive amounts of data to their occupants, Megatron used this during the total war phase of the great war.

Optic Weaponry

Megatron can shoot beams of energy from his eyes that damage anyone they hit. Riveting.

Force Fields

Megatron can create large force fields that defend himself from any foe’s attack. However, if the opponent chooses to enter the force field, they are now stuck inside with Megatron.

Heart of Cybertron

With the Heart of Cybertron installed in his body, Megatron can shoot powerful lasers from his fingers, Palpatine style. These lasers are capable of dealing incredible damage to any target unfortunate enough to be hit by it. 

Ferrotaxis

An ancient Cybertronian artifact that contains the knowledge and overall culture of Cybertron. As an addition, it was connected to the Plasma Core and granted full control over the Insecticon swarms used by the Cybertronians. After crashing on earth in its original ship along with its owner, it would later be found and used by Megatron. While his main use of it was for trying to terraform Earth into a new Cybertron, it is shown that he can also command them to attack the Autobots. The only way to actually stop this control is to destroy the Ferrotaxis, as Megatron implanted a failsafe to keep the Insecticons dedicated to their mission even if he loses the artifact.

Insecticons

Thanks to the Ferrotaxis, Megatron is able to summon the Insecticons, a Decepticon sub-group. The insecticons come in massive swarms, Megatron easily having access to enough to terraform entire planets. While the exact amount Megatron would have access to is unknown, we know that it takes millions of insecticons to cyberform planets, so there is some inkling as to an amount. Insecticons can cyberform matter, turning raw materials into metals or directly into energon. This also allows them to easily consume and chew through most anything. The Insecticons also possess the ability to clone themselves, which attributes to the massive swarms they can be found in.

As seen in Transformers Devastation and other media, the Insecticons are relative in power to several of the Autobots. It should also be noted that unlike the usual Insecticons seen in the series, Devastation’s were specifically bred to operate on a hive mind controlled by their master. However, the Insecticons Megatron has access to are exclusively the version from Transformers Devastation. Meaning they should only get scaling to that game’s version of the Autobots and Decepticons.

Abilities

Freeza

Freeza Race Physiology

As a member of his race, Freeza possesses the capability to live without an atmosphere, and hence isn’t reliant on oxygen to survive in space or underwater. Additionally, Freeza’s latent potential due to his genetic background is enormous, growing from below Goku’s power during the Namek Saga as a Super Saiyan to matching Goku with Super Saiyan Blue upon being resurrected just from training for four months. Upon training for ten years in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, he could even reach levels above Ultra Instinct and Ultra Ego. It also affords him great survivability. Freeza was able to survive the Spirit Bomb, being beaten up by Super Saiyan Goku, cut in half, blown up by Super Saiyan Goku, and the planet subsequently blowing up on him. Even when he came to Earth, being diced into chunks by Trunks didn’t kill him, the following blast did, shown when Shenron could only bring him back to the last state he was alive in, which was in pieces.

Ki Manipulation

Like most characters in the Dragon Ball universe, Freeza is capable of utilizing ki, and Freeza has been shown to be a prodigy with it, being an expert without a day of training. With it he can go full Touhou and shoot energy blasts, which can also home in on his enemies, strengthen his attacks and body, fly, form defensive barriers around himself and sense the natural Ki of others. He can even precisely target internal organs with small ki attacks and blow someone up from the inside. He has used Ki to perform a variety of techniques as well:

Death Beam: Freeza’s most iconic and go to attack where he shoots out condensed energy beams at opponents that notably possess strong piercing power and allow Freeza to target specific vital areas.

• Great Death Beam: Freeza can unleash Death Beams from each of his fingers, and with this technique he uses every single one of them at once, being able to home in on targets and lock on to their vital points.

• Death Wave: Freeza charges a Death Beam in his fingers but instead of firing it as a laser, he uses it as a razor sharp slicing tool to cut anything in his way.

• Cage of Light: Freeza can use the Great Death Beams to create a caged area to prevent opponents from using their mobility to their fullest, with each beam dealing damage to whatever touches them.

Death Ball: A black ball of energy Freeza charges in his finger. While the basic version is the size of a ball, it can grow into the size of a moon. In the manga, even Jiren was able to barely deflect it into the air.

Supernova: When Freeza wants to obliterate a planet in an instant, this is his usual answer to it. A massive energy attack that almost resembles a sun, Freeza can just hurl this at any planet he wishes, which will usually result in its destruction if it hits. Freeza has shown the ability to condense a Supernova into the size of a seed.

Eye Laser: Freeza can shoot ki beams from his eyes.

Nova Strike: By surrounding his body with ki, Freeza flies into his opponent for a brutal full power tackle. This attack is for offense as well as defense, as the ki that surrounds him acts as a ki barrier strong enough to match SSJ Goku’s Kamehameha.

Death Saucer: If Freeza wants to put an end to an opponent, this dual variation of Krillin's Destructo Disk technique can allow for that, being able to cut through nearly anything. Freeza can even control them at will, but if he's not paying attention, he could accidentally harm himself with the technique.

Death Storm: By raising his hand and opening it, Freeza can unleash a massive explosive wave visible from space around him. He can also use this move to spawn a bunch of ki balls around an opponent and detonate them.

Death Wave: By putting his index and middle fingers together and charging an energy sphere at the tips, Freeza swings the sphere around to create a large Death Beam in the form of a giant, razor-sharp energy blade.

Death Cannon: By holding one hand in front of him with the other one supporting it, Freeza fires a large purplish-pink energy sphere or wave at his opponent, resulting in a huge mushroom-shaped cloud explosion upon impact with an electric aura surrounding it.

Death Raid: Freeza surrounds his body with an aura of ki and dashes straight at his opponent, hitting them with a powerful punch to the stomach. The other option for Freeza is jetting into the air and firing a powerful ki blast at his opponent.

Last Emperor: Freeza fires a powerful one handed beam similar to the Kamehameha at his opponent. Some fans know it as “You Must Die By My Hand!”. You know the move he used before almost dying.

Energy Punch: Freeza punches at the opponent, creating giant waves of flames in the process.

Whirlwind Blow: Freeza can blow tornadoes into existence. He LITERALLY kills people by breathing.

Energy Comet: Freeza fires a borderline Touhou amount of energy balls in every direction.

Psycho Meteor: Freeza fires several beams into the air which manifest into meteors that rain down around him. Not only are they powerful, they serve as great distractions for him to follow up with other attacks.

Earth Breaker: On the planet that he’s on, Freeza presses his palm against the surface and fires an energy blast straight to the core. The ground ruptures as streams of magma erupts, resulting in the planet’s destruction. Freeza used this technique near the end of the Resurrection F Saga on Earth before Whis rewinded time.

Psycho Barrier: Freeza creates a barrier around himself as protection against enemy attacks.

Paralysis Inducement

Freeza can trap his opponents within an Imprisonment Ball, an energy sphere which completely immobilizes them and prevents their movement, from there he can telekinetically kick them around like an energy soccer ball, or just toss it. This works on enemies as powerful as Toppo.

Telekinesis

Freeza has shown himself capable of using telekinesis to fight and harm his opponents. This extends from telekinetically moving rocks and objects and throwing them at opponents, including lifting and tossing whole mountains, overwhelming his foes with a barrage of projectiles or even using the previously mentioned Imprisonment Ball and kicking the opponents within it alongside the ball around telekinetically, even combining the Imprisonment Ball with rock throws to barrage the enemy while they are immobile. Additionally, Freeza is not limited to offensive uses of this ability, and is capable of using Telekinesis defensively, such as in his fight with Jiren, where he used nearby objects to block his powerful strikes, or using it to block projectiles, attacks and alike.

Resistances

Extreme Temperatures: Freeza can survive in the vacuum of space no issue, which can get as low as 2.7 Kelvin. Additionally Ki has been shown to burn and vaporize things on multiple occasions, and Freeza can walk through formidable Ki attacks just fine.

Empathy Manipulation: Freeza can resist the love inducing effects of the Light of Love’s aroma, simply commenting that it smells foul.

Hakai: Freeza is able to resist and redirect Hakai, one of the most powerful techniques in the Dragon Ball series. A common misconception is that he was only able to accomplish this through raw power; however, it is shown that Hakai that a mere fodder assassin could shoot out was still a danger to Freeza before he could resist it, and could have killed Goku. It is also argued as a power based resistance as Freeza was unable to stop Toppo’s Hakai in the Tournament of Power, but that was specifically due to the power of the attack itself and not Freeza being unable to counter the hax. The fact Freeza wasn’t erased by the attack despite taking the full force of it further supports him having a resistance to Hakai’s effects. Later on, Vegeta was able to power through the exact same Hakai with a Ki barrier, and Freeza is more than talented enough to replicate something like that.

As for what Hakai does, it is existence erasure on every level. It completely erases the victim’s body, their being from existence which includes erasing them from every existing timeline (Goku Black only survived his alternate timeline self being erased thanks to his Time Ring granting Acausality), erasing their soul. Therefore, Freeza should have resistance to Existence Erasure, Temporal Erasure, and attacks on the soul.

Battlefield Removal: Freeza should be capable of the same ki-based yells Super Buu and Gotenks could perform to escape the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, a pocket dimension that exists outside the universe.

Time Manipulation: At the peak of his power, Freeza should be superior to Jiren. Jiren is so strong that his power transcends time itself, and while massively suppressed, was able to move through stopped time through strength alone. It is important to clarify this is not Jiren simply countering Hit’s time based abilities through raw force, as his strength is specifically countering the concept of time, not Hit’s abilities.

Transmutation: Ki in Dragon Ball has been shown to be unaffected by transmutation, such as when Trunks was able to use Ki to block Dabura’s spit, which normally turns the entire body of whoever touches it to stone. It is worth noting however how this resistance would only apply to Freeza’s Ki and not his own body.

Possibly Disease Manipulation: The Galactic Patrol had absolutely no means of killing Freeza, despite having deadly viruses that could kill entire populations. Arguably, this means they were aware that the viruses would have no effect on him.

Megatron

Cybertronian Physiology

Due to being a robot he’s inorganic by design, and as displayed in the image he has many utilities built into his system, notably the ability to transform his body, a transdimensional weapons uplink, shock absorbers and energy dampeners, and even flight?

Cybertronians are incredibly resilient, Megatron personally having kept fighting after being reduced to just a torso and calling it “a scratch”. He’s survived being cut in half from shoulder to waist, being reduced to cinders by an explosion, and having his transformation cog crushed, leaving him stuck in gun mode for two years, while Optimus has survived being reduced to ash by antimatter. In IDW, Transformers are so resilient they can cut their own heads off or put themselves in the middle of an explosion and still survive.

Holomatter Avatar

Megatron has access to a Holomatter Avatar, which, besides being unreasonably attractive, allows him to blend in with humanity. Because unlike other Transformers transformations, a giant gun does not fit in anywhere besides Boomstick Death Battle’s closet.

Energy Absorption

After getting electrocuted, Megatron not only absorbed the electric energy but also experienced a significant power boost, temporarily overpowering Prime. This ability appears to be passive in nature.

Energy Drain

In War for Cybertron, Megatron has the ability to siphon the health from enemies near him. As he’s only used it on Cybertronians, it is unknown if he could use it on an organic lifeform.

Memory Manipulation

Megatron has shown the ability to alter the memories of autobots such as Bumblebee before, causing him to remember false information and removing previous memories. It is worth noting though he has never done this mid fight, nor has he ever done it on an organic being. 

Black Hole Up-Link

Megatron possesses a link with a black hole within his body. In multiple continuities, this allows Megatron to siphon anti-matter as a weapon (more on that later). In Marvel, the link makes the inside of his body itself contain antimatter, resulting in a nasty surprise for anyone that tries cutting into it. Meanwhile, in IDW, the inside of his body can be used as a portal, cutting off anything that goes through. It is clear though that some of these applications cannot overlap, which can lead to debate on which specific interpretation, or if all interpretations together, should be used.

Black Hole Creation

Pretty self explanatory, Megatron can make a pseudo-black hole to pull things in with powerful gravity.

Antimatter

Due to his internal circuitry, Megatron has the unique ability to link up interdimensionally to a black hole and draw upon its anti-matter for use as a weapon. This strange, unearthly energy flows around him, threatening to engulf him. But Megatron makes it submit to his will.

When Megatron’s anti-matter collides with matter, the results are quite explosive; destroying entire beings, and annihilating everything for miles around. His anti-matter even threatened to destroy half a planet upon destabilizing. Megatron siphons the anti-matter through his eyes. This anti-matter can also be used on specific targets, with Megatron being capable of controlling and directing it; bypassing defenses and eradicating opponents with ease. Megatron even appears to be able to store the charge for later use. It can also be used through stasis fields, allowing Megatron to break out. It displays some versatility as well, with Megatron using said anti-matter to generate a shield to contain its own explosion.

Though, this does come with a severe downside. Megatron’s mental instability and enthusiastic rage can cause the anti-matter to become unstable and even serve as lethal to himself. The anti-matter he generates literally comes from inside his body, meaning anything which pierces him is disintegrated by it, and can ultimately trigger a massive gamma ray wave which disintegrates anything it touches in an expanding sphere around Megatron’s body.

Resistances

Ice Manipulation and Low Temperatures: In episode 50 of G1, he was fine after being frozen at 0 degrees celsius. As well as shrugged off getting hit with heat from a laser beam and cryogenic cold. Broke out of Bumblebee ice manipulation.

Fire and Lava Manipulation: Was completely fine being submerged in lava. 

Electricity: Was not only fine being electrocuted but absorbed it.

Antimatter: Megatron can have his body almost entirely covered in this stuff and gain no damage.

Mind Manipulation: When Straxus attempted to swap his mind with Megatron’s, Megatron was able to retain part of his own consciousness, sharing it with Straxus thereafter… although it did leave him with amnesia and a bit of an identity crisis.

Time Manipulation: (As Galvatron) Ignored the effects of a device designed specifically to send him, as well as several other time travelers, back to their own time period.

Forms

Freeza

Restricted Forms

Freeza’s iconic “Final Form” is a bit of a misleading name. That is actually his base form, and the ones he took on before it were forms created to restrict his massive power level. He possesses three of these transformations, all taking mostly different appearances, and slowly goes from the weakest back to base depending on his opponent. Recently, Freeza hasn’t needed to use them, staying in his base form at all times.

First Form

Even though this is Freeza’s weakest restricted form, he’s still very much powerful in his first form. In it, he can still blow up planets without any effort. When he was resurrected by his minions, Freeza spent four months training for his revenge against Goku. As a result of that training, he was able to defeat Gohan and kill Piccolo in just his First Form.

Second Form

While he does oddly resemble his father in this form, Freeza’s Second Form should be no less intimidating. In this form, not only does Freeza get immensely stronger and faster, but he can also use his horns to impale his opponents like Krillin, something that the latter won’t forget.

Third Form 

Freza’s third and final restricted form where his power and speed vastly increases once more despite being visually familiar to fans of cinema, though I think Ridley Scott is gonna sue somebody.

100% Full Power

The full power of Freeza’s Final Form gives him a dramatic increase in muscle mass, serving as a great increase in power in case his base somehow isn’t enough. At first, this form had a great weakness, as it put great strain on Freeza’s body and could not be maintained for longer periods of time. As of the Tournament of Power and Freeza gaining greater control over his abilities and forms, this appears to no longer be the case.

Golden Freeza

Unlike his limiter forms, Golden is a genuine powered up state for Freeza. Achieved after just 4 months of training, Freeza personally chose its colors to mock the Super Saiyan form. Its power allows it to stand on par with the Super Saiyan Blue state of Goku and Vegeta.

While it initially suffered from a massive stamina drain issue due to Freeza’s impatience and refusing to hone it after first unlocking it, mental training in hell allowed him to solve this stamina issue, as well as further increase the power of the form. In the Super anime, by the time was chosen to participate in the Tournament of Power, he had completely mastered his Golden form, coining the name “True Golden Freeza”, showcasing his perfect energy control in this state.

Fury Golden Freeza

Technically less of a form than a power-up, the games still classify it as a form. Freeza, upon reaching peak anger, winds up getting stronger at the cost of losing any chance of being level-headed. He also can’t keep up the power for long, though unlike in the past it doesn’t drain him as much as it reverts him to normal Golden Freeza (or 100% Freeza when using it to hold off Jiren as Golden was shredded off him).

Black Freeza

An even further evolution of Freeza, the Black form is even stronger than Golden. Achieved after a rigorous 10 year long training within a dimension similar to the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, its power proved enough to once again solidify Freeza’s place as the strongest mortal in the universe, when he overpowered the Ultra states of both Goku and Vegeta in one hit. He has only used it in bursts, so it is not completely clear if it has some sort of stamina issue or weakness yet. Given Freeza’s current personality, he likely trained away the stamina issue assuming there was one.

Megatron

Walther P38

Megatron’s most iconic transformation, complete with stock and a silencer. It is worth noting that although the G1 show usually depicts Megatron transforming into this mode to then be wielded by one of his fellow Decepticons, usually Starscream or Soundwave, he is not restricted to being a simple firearm for others to use. As shown here, he’s completely capable of transforming and then firing by himself. Besides your usual laser beams, Megatron can also shoot lightning bolts in this form which also seems to affect electronics without causing them to explode.

In IDW, Megatron could disassemble his old body into hundreds of individual guns, each of which contained a piece of his consciousness that could talk to and influence their wielder and could even take control of other machinery. Megatron can command these guns to assemble and converge upon him to form them into a suit of incredibly powerful battle armor, strong enough to take on the Deceptigod.

Tank

Like the rest of the Cybertronians, Megatron would also get his own vehicle transformation, in this case, a tank. Modern G1 media uses this as Megatron’s main transformation compared to the classic Walther P38, though this transformation is basically his gun mode if it were a tank. As expected of tanks, Megatron can run into and shoot things.

Stealth Bomber Body

After a particularly significant defeat, Megatron was almost obliterated and left on life support, with Starscream taking over the Decepticons and only Soundwave remaining to tend to Megatron. But naturally, Megatron eventually recovered, rebuilt into a new, massively powerful body that transformed into a stealth bomber from all the Ore-13 the Decpeticons had left. From there, he would return to action swiftly and effectively, successfully defeating Starscream (yet again) and regaining his leadership.

Stealth bombers are a highly capable (and expensive) military vehicle that focus primarily on, you guessed it, stealth. This is much harder than you would initially think, as this means having to be harder to detect not just visually, but also through things like radar, radio, infrared, and audio detection. As such, these planes are extremely capable of getting through all sorts of detection and carrying out stealth missions well. And of course, Megatron also gains flight from this new form, which is definitely a plus. Probably drops bombs or something as well given it’s, you know, a bomber.

 

This body gives Megatron some other unique powers as well. Via space-bridge nodes stolen from the titan Metroplex connected to Megatron’s own black hole up-link, Megatron can open space-bridge portals, accurate within a few thousand miles in range and able to cross distances of at least 640 light-years. This form also boasts a railgun powerful enough to destroy an entire city even when not at full charge.

Notably, even after Megatron lost this body, the space bridge nodes within his structure and from Shockwave’s later experiments remained, leaving his internals “a knot of pan-dimensional pinpricks, transit tunnels, and dead portals”, and causing anything which breaches his body’s insides (such as Whirl’s arm) to be portalled off to a black hole.

G2 Tank Body

In the Marvel continuity, Megatron gained this body through a deal with Cobra Commander, who had Cobra rebuild him into a new, more powerful tank body in the build-up to Generation 2. Notably, this body has the ability to directly manipulate matter itself, able to excite electrons and implode neutrons, allowing Megatron to essentially create nuclear explosions whenever he pleases as a weapon. Megatron would stay in this body for the rest of the Marvel continuity into the G2 comic.

Cosmology

Dragon Ball’s cosmology consists of twelve (formerly eighteen) universes spread amongst the cosmos, with Zeno’s palace located in the middle of them all. Each universe contains multiple space-times, including Heaven and Hell, the mortal world, and the Demon Realm. For those familiar with previous Dragon Ball blogs/episodes, all these different spaces together form a Universe that is nine to fifteen times the size of our own. However, that is not the limit, as guidebooks further elaborate on the size of the universe. Space in the mortal realm has been described as “An infinite space filled with light and darkness.”, “The darkness that stretches out into infinity and illuminates galaxies.”, “The endless, expansive space wrapped around every celestial body that exists in the Living World.”, and it has been stated that “The Kais govern the infinitely expansive universe [of the living world].”. As for cosmological bodies within the universe, guidebooks also state “Within the universe, there are ‘nebulae’ composed of innumerable stars, and there are ‘galaxies’ composed of innumerable nebulae”. And as for the Kai’s supervision of the cosmology, “The division of galaxies into east, west, north, south, is a unit used by Kami and Kaio of the heavenly realm for business purposes in order to supervise the infinite number of galaxies that exist in outer space.” It is worth noting there is some contention over these statements and that that will be discussed later.

There are other dimensions as well that also vary in size, including various spaces such as the Hyperbolic Time Chamber that have different flows of time and are planetary in size. There is also the World of Void, a dimension filled with nothingness where time and space do not exist. This plane was stated to be eternal, though it is debatable if that means anything for its size.

Dragon Ball also contains multiple alternate timelines, including the primary one where most of the story takes place, Future Trunks’ timeline, a timeline where Cell killed Trunks and stole his time machine, a timeline where Zamasu killed the primary Goku and stole his body, etc. There are statements implying the existence of various other timelines as well, though not all of them are seen, with arguments existing for an infinite number of timelines in interviews. It's difficult to use these statements with absolute certainty, but since Dragon Ball operates by Many Worlds Interpretation, which many often (incorrectly) associate with an infinite number of universes, it is possible albeit a bit generous for the Dragon Ball cosmology to be interpreted as such.

Cosmology

In Transformers, basically every single piece of media is canon, existing in some section of the multiverse, from the most well known cartoons to the most obscure advertisements. The multiverse itself has been stated to be infinite numerous times, which the Transcendent Technomorphs divide into different “clusters” of universes with similar features. While different universes have different physical properties, there are multiple statements indicating universes are infinite in size, with multiversal observer Vector Prime noting that the average universe has 17 spatial dimensions, also stated on multiple other occasions. 

Universes are categorized by the TransTech into “universal streams”, essentially following the idea that universes are like rivers, flowing in and out of each other and constantly splitting. Every single decision made creates a new branching universe, and even individual realities can spawn infinite universes out of them. The Transformers of Cloud World similarly categorize individual sections of a universe as their own space-time, which are all connected in the Grand Flow Of Time. Certain universes have associated dimensions which are considered part of the universal stream, and in between all universes is unspace, or transwarp, a chaotic void where ordered mathematics are nonsense which Transformers use as a sort of hyperspace.

Goku, Vegeta, and Freeza have shared several battles over the years and matched each other blow for blow, with Freeza even surpassing and one shotting both with his Black form in the Granola Arc, meaning he can reasonably scale to any feat Goku or Vegeta have performed.

Goku

• In Toei, Namek Saga Goku reacted to meteors moving at comparable speeds to his spaceship, which traveled from Earth to Namek in 6 days (At least 223.7c, likely far higher)

• Goku traveled to Hell from Grand Kai's Planet in under a minute

• Goku’s spirit bomb energy could move across the universe (100.2 - 489.224 quadrillion c, possibly infinite speed)

Goku Black, Zamasu, and Fusion Zamasu

Freeza in the Tournament of Power was a clear equal to Super Saiyan Blue Goku in his Golden form. In the prior arc, Goku’s blue state went up against Goku Black and Zamasu, and in the manga he could match Fusion Zamasu without fusing while at full power. Black Freeza also one shot a True Ultra Instinct Goku, who could match Jiren, who was stated to be Goku’s strongest opponent ever, which would make him superior to Fusion Zamasu, you get the point.

Even then, it is logical to assume Freeza aimed to surpass Broly during his training anyways.

Optimus Prime

Once known as Orion Pax, Optimus Prime is the legendary leader of the Autobots, and Megatron’s eternal nemesis. Optimus Prime is generally the leader of the forces of good in the wars throughout the universe against Megatron, almost always saving life from the vile Decepticons, or even greater threats like Unicron. Time and time again Megatron and Optimus Prime have battled each other, and have always remained evenly matched, making it very logical to scale Megatron to any feats Optimus Prime has performed throughout his life.

• Cracked Sixshot's chestplate

• Tilted a giant boat

• Survived a explosion that left a giant gash on Cybertron (486 petatons of TNT)

• Crashed a ship into a planet which exploded and triggered a supernova

• Later episodes show that his body survived it

Starscream

This is bad comedy. While he is often depicted as nothing compared to Megatron, don’t let his constant attempts to usurp him mislead you. Starscream is a very capable Decepticon, often Megatron’s second-in-command, and almost always fights beside him. As such, Megatron is unquestionably comparable to Starscream and the feats he has performed.

• Survived a generator explosion.

• Said generator explosion is stated to be capable of obliterating earth on four different occasions. 

• Starscream has traveled from Earth to Cybertron in a short time frame

Soundwave

Without a doubt one of Megatron’s most powerful soldiers, Soundwave is generally the only one of Megatron’s higher ups who is actually loyal to his leader and not attempting to overthrow the system at any given moment. The communications officer has proven his worth both on and off the battlefield countless times, and as Soundwave’s leader, Megatron should naturally be comparable to his most loyal soldier.

• Soundwave survived the destruction of Paradron (47.5 exatons of TNT)

Overlord

Overlord is one of few who can match Megatron in combat. While James Roberts has said Overlord would ultimately win a 1-on-1 against Megatron, Tarn holding off Overlord and Optimus matching Sixshot makes it clear that Point-One-Percenters like Megatron can at least stand up to Phase Sixers like Overlord.

Confusing, right? The Japanese continuity is a big part of Transformers lore and has multiple cases of American G1 characters crossing over that Megatron can scale to, including the likes of Galvatron II, Thunderwing, and Lord Zarak, who have all traveled into the JG1 continuity and have fought multiple characters. More elaboration on this will be in the pre-verdict Q&A.

Weaknesses

Freeza

Freeza does not really have any stand out issues to talk about, and is a pretty balanced fighter. In the past he had not trained nearly as heavily as characters like Goku or Vegeta, so his experience was a bit less than you would think.  This has been resolved by the time of Black Freeza, though. However, apart from not having that many unique abilities and hax compared to someone like Goku, Freeza’s biggest issue by far is his arrogance. He will take pride in any advantage he is able to secure over an opponent, and is no stranger to shit talking whenever and wherever. Additionally, this arrogance is breakable, resulting in Freeza devolving into a still cunning and precise, but reckless bloodthirsty rage that can result in the opponent gaining the upper hand. Bro also cannot tell time for shit.

Megatron

(STAHRSCREAUHMMM)

Despite Megatron’s nightmarish potential, incredible capabilities as a leader, and impressive battle experience, he very much still has some noteworthy flaws that can give him trouble. The most obvious one is of course his absolutely massive ego and pride. While Megatron is capable of respecting forces able to match him or he considers genuinely noteworthy like Optimus Prime, he still tends to consider himself the best of the best. More than once his overconfidence has cost him massively, be it on the battlefield doing battle against Prime or being taken off guard by some cunning plan he didn’t see coming. Of course, Megatron is still intelligent enough to effectively plan and battle, but this weakness can certainly throw a wrench into things at a bad time.

Before the Verdicts

Is Antimatter and Matter Manipulation synonymous with Hakai? 

Simply put, the answer is no. Hakai and Antimatter/Matter Manipulation function very differently. Hakai is specifically the complete destruction of a target and leaves nothing left. Antimatter does not destroy things however. The way antimatter works is that when antimatter, negative particles, interacts with normal matter, positive particles, it turns said positive particles into pure energy that proceeds to go kaboom. Megatron’s matter manipulation works similarly where he grabs electrons and/or neutrons in his hands and manipulates them to basically shoot out a giant destructive explosion. To sum it up, antimatter/matter manipulation is basically extra fancy transmutation. Not typical ooga booga destruction. Thus, them and Hakai are not synonymous.

“But wait, Beerus states in the manga that after Hakai destroys something, energy is released! Wouldn’t that mean resisting Hakai means Freeza can resist anti matter?”

The issue however is that the conversion to energy only applies after the matter is destroyed. The destruction happens first, then the energy release follows. Freeza specifically resists the destruction part so he does not have to deal with the energy part. And so, again, antimatter and Hakai are not synonymous.

Is IDW Transformers multiversal?

The notion that the 2005 IDW continuity makes Megatron multiversal has been tossed around a lot in the waiting period, so you might be wondering how true that is. The long and short of it is that the feats cited for this are heavily out-of-context and fairly directly counterable.

Probably the most common feat cited for this is Megatron and Optimus taking hits from and defeating Shockwave during his Regenesis plan, while he was juiced up on the energy of the Dead Universe and threatening to collapse the universe into a black hole. The issue is that Megatron and Optimus are explicitly not on Shockwave’s level while he’s this amped. Shockwave directly says that Optimus is no match for him physically, and easily swats both aside both physically and with blasts. You might think that’s still applicable to durability, but Shockwave wasn’t trying to outright kill them. At this point, he viewed them as being basically entirely inconsequential and didn’t think they could do anything to him, and during the conflict he was struggling with his memories of his previous life resurfacing and reminding him of his former friendship with Optimus. Optimus and Megatron only ‘defeat’ him by successfully talking his memories as a senator into fully resurfacing, allowing him to regain his emotions, and then shooting his Time Drive, the thing that was controlling his power, while he’s distracted, causing it to collapse and send him through time. At no point do they actually match Shockwave in power, and they explicitly aren’t on his level and can’t just beat him directly.

As a side-note, Nova Prime claiming Shockwave would collapse the multiverse is also sometimes tossed around, but in-context, Nova Prime was essentially completely mad and being deliberately misled by Shockwave. Even taking the statement at face value, Nova was only aware of about three universes at the time (the normal universe, the Dead Universe, and Infraspace), and had no idea about the true extent of the multiverse, so there’s no reason to think Shockwave would be collapsing anything more than that. And either way, it’s not applicable to Megatron.

The other feat typically cited for IDW being cosmic is Megatron directly defeating the Deceptigod, which is argued as being the full power of the D-Void, the manifestation of the entire Dead Universe itself. While Megatron does defeat the Deceptigod, this is misunderstanding what the Deceptigod is. The Deceptigod is not the D-Void itself and is never stated to be. It’s just a being created by the D-Void’s powers, it’s body is literally just the amalgamation of the Sweeps and Decepticon army combined together. The actual D-Void is essentially the living consciousness of the Dead Universe, and has no real physical form. Even after Megatron defeats the Deceptigod, the D-Void is unimpeded and continues with its plan. While Megatron’s profile in Transformers: Historia mentions that the D-Void nearly destroyed “all creation”, this is in the context of its plan to use Cybertron as a portal to merge the Dead Universe with the living universe, which is what the entire Chaos event revolved around. This profile also emphasizes the distinction between the Deceptigod and the D-Void itself, describing the former as just a creature “formed” by the latter. Ultimately, the only thing which scales to the D-Void is the Matrix of Leadership, which destroyed the entity, but nobody else in IDW scales to Optimus Prime’s Matrix. The Deceptigod is certainly powerful, and looks really cool, but it doesn’t actually have any feats which make Megatron defeating it particularly impressive beyond its size.

The main feat left is Thunderwing being stated to be a threat to the entire universe, but this is obviously in the context of Thunderwing being unleashed onto the universe and destroying worlds overtime for millions of years, with Bludgeon saying he’d destroy worlds one-by-one. Thunderwing was taking time just to destroy Cybertron itself in Stormbringer, and the Decepticons believed that nuking Cybertron’s surface would subdue him. Thunderwing’s Titans Returns toy bio mentions he can create waves of destruction across the universe, but this is a totally different continuity that has no bearing on IDW.

Beyond that, there’s only two feats that have any possible merit for IDW being universal, and both still have issues. The first is Nova Prime having control over the Dead Universe, and being able to reality warp it at his whim. Nova Prime actually can do this, and he is cleanly defeated by Optimus, but there’s no evidence that this reality warping applies to Nova Prime’s physical strength, with Optimus only defeating him in a physical brawl. Nova’s reality warping is tied into his former connection with the Heart of Darkness and his esoteric nature after having spent so many years stuck in the Dead Universe, with him even mentioning that the Dead Universe becomes easier to control the more it shrinks. Near the beginning of the continuity, he needed to use the Nega-Cores to expand the Dead Universe into the living one, and that was while he had the Heart of Darkness. While Nova could be universal in the context of his reality warping, its esoteric nature means there’s just no real evidence it applies to his physical strength, and so Optimus couldn’t scale to that level of power for physically defeating him.

The other feat with possible merit is Micronus Prime creating Microspace. There’s no real issue with this as a feat, the problem is just that Microspace is, as the name would suggest, probably not a full-sized universe. Micronus’s body lies at the center of the Entropy Cloud which was destroying Microspace, and it’s shown that this Entropy Cloud couldn’t affect Earth until it was brought in and allowed to expand. Microspace is a microscopic realm that was presumably created via Ore-3’s size altering powers, so it’s difficult to prove that this would actually be a universal feat. And of course, even accepting either of these feats, they would ‘only’ be universal, and a far cry from the multiversal stats often tossed around for IDW.

All in all, IDW’s universal and above feats have too many contextual issues to be usable. Outside of these feats, the IDW continuity is fairly consistently multi-continental, via Optimus surviving a refinery explosion visible from space which left a crater in Cybertron, Phase Sixers like Overlord being able to “shave an inch off a planet”, and Trailcutter’s Panic Bubble being able to contain Megatron’s anti-matter when it threatened to destroy half of a hollow planet.

Can Megatron freely swap between bodies of his?

A point of discussion has been whether or not Megatron can swap between the majority of his special bodies (to specify, not his disguises) in order to gain a variety of additional abilities. The answer to this question is no, he cannot. The majority of Megatron’s different bodies are not simply different transformations he can attain by screaming really loudly. They require his body to be modified and improved upon over time through actual engineered adjustments. That being said, there are some different opinions on whether or not all of Megatron’s unique bodies should be composited together or if only a specific one should be used, so that’ll be discussed later.

Is Galvatron standard?

Probably not. In most continuities, it’s not really a state Megatron can achieve on his own, usually requiring outside aid from people like Unicron. Heck, in IDW, Galvatron is actually his own character. Granted in some continuities, Galvatron is a form Megatron can achieve by himself if he fulfills specific circumstances, but keyword, specific. For example in the Japanese continuity, Megatron has a Galvatron transtector body which he can plug into as a Headmaster unit, but this requires him to be in his diminutive Headmaster body, which is mutually exclusive with his more known and potent abilities in his full body. Galvatron is also depicted as being more of a transformation for Megatron in the Henkei! Henkei! Bun Bun and pack-in mangas, achieved by tapping into the power of energon cubes, but these portrayals are inconsistent with Galvatron’s other appearances, giving him numerous really wild abilities like immortality and possession, and require Megatron to have spare energon cubes on-hand. Even if these were used, Megatron would only have access to the feats performed by Galvatron in these specific continuities, and not anything Galvatron has done in continuities where he’s more than just a transformation.

End of the day, the match-up is Feieza vs Megatron, and Galvatron’s inclusion would just muddy things further and make the match more incoherent, so in conclusion, considering that most of the time Galvatron isn’t something Megatron can just power up into, it’s probably better not to utilize the state. Speaking of the Japanese continuity!

So what’s up with Japanese G1? What’s really being used for Megatron exactly?

As noted at the beginning of the blog, a big question that’s come up during the wait period is the use of the Japanese Generation 1 continuity, with the common idea being that it gives Megatron high-scale feats that would be very relevant for the match and possibly verdict-flipping. The question is if it should be used, and the answer is that it’s debatable to say the least.

As a quick rundown, the Japanese G1 continuity refers to the continuity begun by Takara in the 80s, beginning with the Japanese dub of the original Transformers cartoon which was followed by numerous Japanese-only animes and mangas, introducing many original ideas and characters and evolving over the decades into a vast, sprawling timeline. In-universe, this continuity is referred to as “G1 World”, or Primax 785.06 Alpha. In this continuity, Megatron’s adventures continue beyond season 3 of the original cartoon, with him dying as Galvatron at the end of the Headmasters anime, before being resurrected years later by the alien Dark Nova as Super Megatron. From there, he has numerous retcon-heavy adventures and battles before, after being tempered by his time as ruler of the whacky Legends World, making peace with Optimus, and going on to defend the previous universe from threats.

As you can tell, JG1 Megatron has a very unique story compared to other incarnations of the character across G1 continuities, and a lot of unique abilities directly tied into the complex lore of the Japanese G1 continuity. By absorbing Angolmois energy, the power of Primus and Unicron themselves, he’s able to achieve multiple higher forms with increasing power, regenerate, exist as just a spark, time travel, possess people, etc, and he can also just drain people of their energy outright, which he used to achieve the state of Golden Megatron, a form which was threatening to merge the multiverse. A lot of these powers are stuff no other version of Megatron has, and would be, needless to say, highly relevant factors in a fight like this.

So, is it usable? That’s hard to say. There are arguments both for and against in the context of a Death Battle-style composite. On the one hand, Japanese G1 material can be pretty wildly different from what people know of G1. A lot of this material is really obscure and is only known to the most of hardcore fans, and features totally out-there concepts like Megatron’s super forms and Primus’s origin in the Precursor World. Especially in the context of it having so much going on and providing some really high-end feats, you have to wonder if it’s really still the same Megatron, and isn’t more comparable to something like Xenoverse for Dragon Ball. This is only compounded considering Megatron is already getting a composite from multiple continuities while his opponent is limited to essentially only a single canon.

On the other hand, Japanese G1 is also still just a variation of the original cartoon, it started as a straight dub of the American series. It’s more like essentially the G1 expanded universe, adding many stories before, after, and in-between the original cartoon, and in Japan it’s treated as just being the main G1 Transformers continuity outright, having been added to since the 80s. Numerous characters and concepts from the Japanese series have since been incorporated into Western material in fairly significant fashion, such as characters like Star Saber making recurring appearances in the IDW comics. Its significance to the brand makes it arguably a lot less comparable to something like Xenoverse, and in-universe, the Cloud World Transformers acknowledge the American and Japanese continuities as being close.

It’s a debatable topic with a lot of different angles, and even after two weeks of discussing it on the blog, we still haven’t reached a proper consensus yet. Japanese material was largely excluded from the blog for Megatron’s abilities, but that’s in-part just due to time constraints and a lack of familiarity from many working on the material. You may then be wondering about the Japanese G1 segment in Megatron’s scaling section. That’s because the inclusion of Japanese G1 directly might just not matter?

As you might have gleamed, multiple characters from other G1 continuities end up hopping dimensions into the world of the Japanese G1 continuity, and end up doing stuff that opens the avenue for scaling to the feats performed in that continuity anyways. The most significant of these is probably Galvatron II, a character from the Marvel comic continuity. Galvatron II is identified as having hopped dimensions from his home universe, a Primax Gamma universal stream (or in other words, a G1 comic universe), with the character report recounting the events of the Marvel continuity, even including the events of the pseudo-canonical novel Alignment, and his profile explicitly describes the events of the Marvel comics, making it clear it’s the same version of the character. Upon appearing in the Japanese continuity, Galvatron II was able to easily trounce Laser Ultra Magnus, despite Ultra Magnus being significantly upgraded and resurrected specifically to aid in the battle by the Japanese continuity’s Optimus Prime. Speaking of, Optimus Prime needed his own upgrades to battle Galvatron II, and Galvatron later straight up deposed the JG1 version of Megatron as Decepticon leader and relegated him to a minor role. Galvatron II would go on to become a recurring antagonist in the Japanese continuity, requiring Optimus and Ultra Magnus working together to defeat him earlier in the timeline, and making numerous appearances in the Legends and Unite Warriors mangas.

All that is relevant because the point at which Galvatron hops into the JG1 timeline, roughly 2035, is chronologically after the events of Transformers Zone, the Battlestars, and G2, where Optimus (or Convoy as he’s known in Japan) and Megatron both received numerous upgrades. It was Star Convoy who defeated and subdued Golden Megatron while he was threatening to merge the entire multiverse into one, even de-merging the Gold Matrix, and Star Convoy is just normal Optimus while being empowered by the Zodiac. Other Autobot leaders like Dai Atlas have matched the Zodiac to the point of completely draining its energy, and Dai Atlas still considered Optimus necessary to combat Dark Nova. Later on, the combined power of the Energon Matrices of several Autobot leaders were capable of empowering Optimus into Star Convoy from near-death. Ultra Magnus himself was considered vital by Optimus for combatting Galvatron II, specifically going out of his way to resurrect him, and his upgraded body made him more in an individual robot mode than it did in his previous combined form. Needless to say, Galvatron stomping someone like that, and requiring Optimus Prime himself to upgrade even further to match is a very impressive feat, and should place him in the same tier as the Autobot leaders matching the Zodiac and being able to fuel Star Convoy.

All that is relevant (again) because Marvel Megatron has been able to match Galvatron II, drawing “blood” with his punches and earlier defeating Fortress Maximus, who was the one to ultimately beat and subdue Galvatron II at the end of the comic. This isn’t the only instance of a Marvel character crossing over into Japanese G1 either. Thunderwing from the Marvel comic dimension-hopped to JG1 into the era of United, or roughly 2035, and is stated to have power so impressive Megatron appointed him as a commander. In Marvel itself, Thunderwing could be beaten into submission by Optimus Prime, even while the former was wielding the corrupted Creation Matrix, lending consistency to this scaling, and with there being zero indication Galvatron and Thunderwing were in any way amped during their time in Japanese G1 (note that another Marvel character who dimension hopped to JG1, Straxus, is specifically said to have upgraded his body with Power Core technology to explain his new toy, meaning the lack of mention of anything like this for Galvatron and Thunderwing is another point in their favor).

Marvel isn’t the only continuity to crossover with Japanese G1 either. The character of Zarak/Scorponok, explicitly identified as being from the original American cartoon, shows up in the Legends World alongside the cartoon versions of the Headmasters. Scorponok is depicted as a threat to the Legends World, containing numerous Japanese G1 characters, and the American Headmasters are identified as being outright twice as strong as their Japanese counterparts, no ambiguity. This is all backed up by the Cloud World Transformers noting that the Japanese and American continuities are close, and that both act as backbones to the multiverse. 

In essence, even if Japanese G1 isn’t included directly for Megatron, there are multiple avenues for scaling via other continuities that would make the feats present in the continuity still relevant and on the table for this matchup. The original cartoon and Marvel comic continuities are pretty indisputably usable for Megatron and have already shown up in his preview, meaning the argument is there. That said, it is still an argument, and can be disputed, so specific points and disagreements will be left to verdicts.

Beyond all that, what’s being used is mostly material that Death Battle itself already used for Optimus, namely the IDW Comics, Marvel Comics, G1 Cartoon, and Devastation or just in general any games that are a part of G1, such as Earth Wars. Stuff from Beast Wars has been considered as well since Beast Wars due to Beast Wars being a sequel to G1 in most continuities and their casts encountering each other in numerous instances. Stuff from more obscure continuities that aren’t too far removed, such as the Wings Universe and Of Masters And Mayhem, have also been considered, alongside the short-lived Dreamwave universe. And no we aren’t using Alternity/Megatherion.

Wouldn’t an infinite universe just be considered Multiversal+?

One could argue Dragon Ball’s infinite universe statements could be used to argue Freeza matching Multiversal+ Transformers feats. After all, infinity equals infinity right? The answer to the above question is no. An infinite sized universe would still only be one space-time. In comparison, a multiverse consisting of an infinite number of different space times would also have the space outside of those finite universes that would transcend the infinite number of universes. Thus it would be greater than a single infinity, and so be greater than an infinite size universe. It is for that reason that even with infinite size universes for Dragon Ball, they still would not be Multiversal+. That being said though…

Infinite/Immeasurable canon Dragon Ball?

A handful of Dragon Ball’s universe covering feats could range from the stats they have been placed at previously, to infinite speed if higher cosmology size was bought, and there is also a handful of immeasurable arguments that can be made. These stats are probably something you’d think you’d only see in Dragon Ball Heroes. So, what gives? What’s the logic for all these cosmology and immeasurable arguments? For the record, not everyone on the blog agrees with these stats for Freeza. But for the sake of clarification, the arguments around them will be explained prior to verdicts.

Cosmology Arguments

Dragon Ball cosmology has been a very contested topic for years. In terms of finite size, the Universe 7 macrocosm itself is 9 to 15 times the size of our own universe based on measurements comparing the mortal universe to the rest of the official model. The argument also exists that due to Heaven being universal in size but still not being able to be seen from certain parts of the Otherworld, that the entire macrocosm could be trillions of light years wide. Notably however you can argue each individual part of the macrocosm is an infinite size time-space.

The official Dragon Ball Daizenshuu has described the mortal universe as “An infinite space.”, “The darkness that stretches out into infinity”, “The endless, expansive space wrapped around every celestial body that exists in the Living World.”, and “the infinitely expansive universe [of the living world].”. There are also statements regarding the cosmological bodies within the mortal universe such as stars and galaxies, with the Daizenshuu stating that “Within the universe, there are ‘nebulae’ composed of innumerable stars, and there are ‘galaxies’ composed of innumerable nebulae” and “The division of galaxies into east, west, north, south, is a unit used by Kami and Kaio of the heavenly realm for business purposes in order to supervise the infinite number of galaxies that exist in outer space.” There is also a statement in the guide that states the universe is infinitely expanding, though infinitely expanding just means it is expanding forever and not that its size specifically is infinite, so it isn’t relevant.

To go more in detail as to why these statements would specifically indicate infinite size and not something else:

• “An infinite space” cannot really mean anything other than, well, infinite space or room. Pretty clear.

• “stretches out into infinity” would imply space stretches out an infinite distance. 

• For “endless expansive space”, it is important to remember expansive does not mean expanding. The definition of expansive is “covering a wide area in terms of space or scope; extensive or wide-ranging.”. If something is expansive it means it is already covering an area, not that it will over time. Considering the “wide area” that is being covered is “endless” meaning it has no end, that would imply infinite expansive space.

• The previously established definition of “expansive” also applies to “infinitely expansive universe”. Expansive here is being described as “infinitely” and thus infinite size is implied.

• “innumerable” is often used as hyperbole so this statement in particular is not too strong. However it is consistent with the other infinite size statements and thus should not be instantly dismissed.

• If there are an “infinite number of galaxies” in space, then space must be infinite in size to contain them. Pretty simple.

In conclusion Dragon Ball has four notable statements calling the mortal universe infinite, and two statements mentioning an infinite amount of cosmological objects. Do note that if the mortal realm is infinite, so is Heaven by proxy, as well as the Demon Realm, and so on, and the entire macrocosm becomes a mix of different infinite size spaces.

Now obviously counter arguments do exist against Dragon Ball’s universe being infinite in size. Notably being that all these statements boil down to one big hyperbole, and a certain infamous edge statement. Those will be addressed in verdicts.

A closing note would be a debunk to a certain Multiversal+ and infinite speed argument regarding the possibility of Dragon Ball having infinite parallel worlds based on interviews. Even assuming they do despite minimal evidence, it is not possible to scale Freeza or other characters to these other parallel worlds, as no Dragon Ball character has ever affected/destroyed more than a single timeline in canon. Not even Zeno. The one argument for someone affecting them, being Fusion Zamasu stating he would destroy all the parallel worlds, could be argued as him scaling. How is he going to destroy infinite worlds without infinite stats, after all. The key issue is that what he considers “destroyed” isn’t the worlds completely wiped clean. He just aimed to life wipe them. Not to mention that he could only ever destroy one at a time, since his plan required using a Time Machine to go to them one by one, meaning Zamasu still could not scale to the entire cosmology.

Other Infinite/Immeasurable Arguments

If you use infinite size Universes, then it should be clear that Dragon Ball characters would have infinite speed as characters can expand attacks that destroy all of Universe 7. So pretty simple logic there. There are more ways to argue immeasurable speed for Dragon Ball however besides the cosmology.

There are a handful of weaker arguments to go over first. First of which would be the World of Void being affected by numerous characters. Obvious issue, while evidence suggests the realm could be infinite in size, the statement for that argument is a mistranslation, and the proper term used to describe the dimension is the word “eternal”. A word usually meaning everlasting, not endless. 

There is also the infamous argument about Goku powering through Hit’s Time Skip in order to hit him. While in the manga, Time Skip does not work on stronger opponents, it works just fine against people stronger than Hit in the anime. Considering how Hit, someone closer to the level of a normal SSB Goku, could use a refined Time Skip effectively on a times 10x Kaioken SSB Goku. As for why Goku blasting through Time Skip isn't an immeasurable speed feat though, it is important to acknowledge that Hit’s primary Time Skip is not a time stop. It’s Hit skipping forward in time specifically. Thus breaking past it does not require immeasurable speed.

The primary argument for infinite/immeasurable Dragon Ball apart from higher cosmology arguments however, is Infinite Zamasu and Zeno.

The logic is that upon becoming Infinite Zamasu, Fusion Zamasu expanded to the point he was covering the entirety of Trunks’ timeline. As he covered the entirety of a timeline and not just the multiverse itself, this means he spread across all of its time and existence, meaning immeasurable speed as he spread into the past and future. This makes sense considering producer statements calling Infinite Zamasu omnipresent, Zamasu beginning to expand into other timelines, and the fact that Trunks’ entire timeline had to be destroyed by Zeno for Zamasu to finally be destroyed. This is also confirmed in the manga, where we see the Time Ring that leads to Trunks’ timeline being destroyed when Zeno destroys Trunks’ timeline. On that note, Zeno’s own timeline destruction is also something to focus on. Zeno destroyed the timeline, he didn’t just destroy the multiverse itself. This means he was destroying time, and so his energy was moving where time did not exist, meaning Zeno’s energy was moving in zero time. Thus it is a case of immeasurable speed. It is also worth noting that both of these arguments do not rely on the cosmology itself being infinite in size, meaning Freeza could reach immeasurable speed without the cosmology itself being infinite. Further defense of these arguments as well as counter arguments will come up in verdicts.

Multi+ G1 Transformers? Gazillion times FTL speed?

As you’ve probably gleamed by now, Transformers has countless different continuities, even just within the umbrella of “G1”, and so power levels vary massively between series. As presented in the stats section, multiple high-end feats exist for both power and speed which can be argued to apply to G1, but opinions differ on what exactly is usable and which stats apply to what continuity. For the sake of clarity, more detailed opinions on this will be left to the verdicts.

Verdicts

What is bro filming, is he stupid?

Team Freeza

It is important to address that this specific verdict is not the definitive thoughts of its team. Rather, it is a verdict specifically made without factoring Japanese G1 Transformers in any capacity simply because some people wanted to give a different perspective on the debate of the match up, considering how divided opinions on what to give Megatron have been the past few years. Megatron can still win even without Japanese G1 Transformers scaling being used of course, and that will be addressed in Megatron’s own verdict. But for now, this verdict will only be using sources already established in the blog apart from JG1.

Stats

Let’s start with power. Beginning with Freeza, he can compare to a variety of feats that would place him at Multiversal levels of power. There is the obvious shockwave clash between Goku and Beerus that threatened to destroy Universe 7, a macrocosm featuring multiple different time spaces each bigger than our own universe. Later on in the series, Fusion Zamasu would also be able to expand and merge with Trunks’ entire timeline, which means he spread across all twelve macrocosms in the timeline. Considering his Black form, Freeza should get solid scaling to previous Dragon Ball antagonists, considering his scaling to the likes of Goku and Jiren. 

As for Megatron’s power, he comfortably gets large planet via him surviving a blast that pushed Cybertron at relativistic speeds to as high as large star level, due to him harming Optimus Prime, who’s body survived an explosion comparable to a supernova. However, none of these are matching Freeza’s low multiversal stats, and Megatron doesn’t have any clear way of getting as strong as that. The only way to get him that high is scaling him to Regenesis Shockwave in the IDW continuity, but this is fairly dubious. Shockwave outright said Optimus was no match for him physically and Megatron got casually backhanded by him. Both of them did survive blasts from him, but given Shockwave’s senator identity was resurfacing, it’s likely he was holding back to some extent. Optimus and Megatron don’t even defeat him via raw power, instead destroying the time drive which was fueling Shockwave, which caused his power to collapse. 

Even if one were to be extremely generous and put aside all these issues, Shockwave in this state was going to affect 3 universes/space-times at best, which is roughly on par with Freeza. However, Freeza by this point should be far above Dragon Ball’s cosmic feats, with both cases of upscaling the characters who performed the feats as well as Dragon Ball’s infamous multipliers widening the gap. While various series have evidence that could suggest that the average Transformers universe is infinite in size, similar statements exist for Dragon Ball, and at that point the same upscaling and multiplier shenanigans would apply to put the cards in Freeza’s favor.

On the topic of infinite size universes, it is worth addressing them on the topic of speed. Dragon Ball’s massively faster than light feats are certainly impressive, but it is no secret Megatron scales to far higher finite values, considering Lightspeed and Mainframe’s respective absurd feats, reaching far beyond what Freeza’s speed could reasonably be, even with numerous multipliers. This brings up the topic of infinite speed however, in which case both characters can reach that speed. Reaching it for Megatron is well, infinitely simpler. In a bio, Side Burn is stated to have infinite speed outright, you cannot get more blatant than that. Freeza’s arguments, as previously outlined in the pre-verdict discussion, rely on assuming infinite size for Dragon Ball’s mortal universe, or buying him scaling to the likes of Infinite Zamasu and Zeno in speed. 

Starting with the universe size argument, it should be noted that the statements are clear in what they mean. However there are counter arguments against infinite size worth addressing:

1. These statements could simply be hyperbole as there is not some standout narrative support for the universe being infinite in size.

2. In both the Dragon Ball Super anime and manga, Bulma has a statement where she says the universe has an edge.

Starting with point one, while there is not an in-series statement about infinite universe size, the source the statements come from (the Daizenshuu) is an official guide that Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama approved, and said that its creators were probably more knowledgeable than he himself was on his own series. As for the hyperbole point, it is worth addressing the sheer quantity of statements supporting infinite size. If it was only one or two, then it would be more dismissable, but with the infinite space, stretch into infinity, endless expansive, infinitely expansive, innumerable stars/nebulae, and infinite galaxies statements, there is a total of six distinct statements that support the idea of Dragon Ball’s mortal universe being infinite in size. Considering these statements come from an author approved guide book and are referenced numerous times, it is difficult to dismiss them all as hyperbole when there are so many of them in total, with credibility behind them to boot.

As for the edge statement, this is where things get a lot more complicated. Ironically, something having an edge does not mean it cannot be infinite, as weird as that sounds. Many other series use this logic, like DC, Marvel, Gurren Lagann, Dark Tower, etc with them having levels of power and dimensions that exist above infinity itself. DC is a big example of this with the Source Wall being located at the literal edge of infinity. Superman has also reached the edge of the infinite universe once when his speed ascended beyond infinity. Thus it is not unreasonable to say that just because it has an edge, Dragon Ball’s universe is not infinite in size. If fiction always made sense then being light speed would make every comic book street tier that has outran a laser wield infinite power. Even if one were to still push Bulma’s edge statement as a major contradiction, at the end of the day it is only one contradictory statement versus six supporting ones, so there is more for Dragon Ball having infinite size universes than against.

With this all in mind, Goku and Beerus’ infamous shockwaves would have crossed an infinite distance and thus had to have been moving at an infinite speed. Additionally, Infinite Zamasu would have had to spread throughout Trunks’ timeline at infinite speed, fitting his name. On the topic of Infinite Zamasu though, Dragon Ball’s second infinite/immeasurable speed argument is worth addressing (since it does not rely on infinite universe size), being Infinite Zamasu and Zeno’s respective feats regarding timeline fusion and destruction. The logic for these feats is pretty simple and was already elaborated on before the verdicts, so what is worth addressing is Freeza scaling to these feats.

Starting with Zamasu, the scaling chain from Black Freeza to Fusion Zamasu is very simple. He is stronger than True Ultra Instinct Goku, Goku fought Jiren with a worse variant of Ultra Instinct and overpowered him, Shin stated Jiren was the good guys’ strongest opponent ever, and he had seen Zamasu’s full power. The issue is that the way Zamasu merged with the timeline was via his omnipresence, an ability, not something that could scale to speed. However we see when Infinite Zamasu merges with the universe that he had to expand to reach his omnipresence and timeline spreading in the first place, indicating that he did require speed to reach that point. Additionally it is unreasonable to say Fusion Zamasu would not compare to his Infinite form, as Infinite Zamasu is a result of Fusion Zamasu’s being simply not being connected to a physical body anymore. There is no reason to say that Infinite Zamasu suddenly became infinitely faster, as it is not like he got any actual amplification to his stats.

As for Zeno, there are arguments for characters moving in tandem with and reacting to Zeno’s energy wave, which we saw physically expand from Zeno and consume both Infinite Zamasu and Trunks’ entire timeline. One can argue that Goku and co. managed to time hop away just in time to avoid Zeno’s attack and that in the manga, the army of Fusion Zamasus only managed to evade it temporarily. However further support for Zeno scaling exists in the anime, with Dyspo, a character Freeza can blitz with his Golden form, being too fast for Zeno to keep up with without Zeno slowing down the replay via God Pad. Additionally in the Dragon Ball Super manga, weaker Gods of Destruction that Freeza should be comparable to are able to move too fast for Zeno to keep up with. While it is not completely concrete, there is a good amount of evidence to say Zeno is not some unreachable character in terms of speed. Likewise, it is important to note that this really just scales to a CASUAL Zeno, not even close to his full power.

To summarize, Freeza has a solid power advantage over the Decepticon, to the point of taking the AP advantage by a massive amount regardless of leniency with Regenesis Shockwave scaling. Any half decent attack is going to be fatal to Megatron here. As for speed, while Megatron definitely has higher finite speed arguments, Freeza has multiple arguments that can let him reach infinite levels of speed, matching Megatron’s own infinite speed scaling. Thus the two are just as fast as each other with Freeza having a key advantage in raw power.

Arsenal & Abilities

Freeza definitely is not too complex of a fighter, and his opponent definitely has more up his sleeve overall. Maces, chains, cannons, swords, so on and so forth. Though it is worth addressing that while Megatron has more overall to throw at Freeza, apart from some specific abilities, he does not have anything Freeza cannot just do with Ki. Both can shoot energy blasts, fire eye beams, slice stuff, make barriers, etc. While Megatron definitely has a greater quantity of weapons, for the most part his offensive options are even in terms of quality with Freeza. And as for unique powers, options like memory manipulation and energy drain also should not work on an organic being like Freeza and thus are not relevant, and his matter manipulation has not been used to directly rearrange a person’s atoms before, only to throw out big explosions really.

Freeza doesn’t really have anything super overpowered unique to him, but he does still have some abilities that would be useful here. While Megatron’s mechanical nature would make Ki sensing pointless, Freeza has still been shown to have very effective senses regardless, and it is not like Megatron is the type of guy to resort to stealth anyways. Telekinesis would be useful for redirecting attacks or flinging Megatron away, and Freeza being able to blow someone up from the inside with little bits of Ki would be incredibly useful for putting the Decepticon down quickly. While other Cybertronians like Optimus have survived internal explosions thanks to their physiology, it still significantly damaged him. Plus since Freeza is far stronger than Megatron, one little boom would absolutely prove more than fatal. 

Megatron does have two specific abilities here that would prove troublesome, being his Black Hole link and his antimatter. Starting with the former, due to his black hole link, Megatron’s innards are stated to be a mess of different types of portals… in the IDW continuity. Whereas in something like Marvel, the inside of his body is filled with a constant stream of antimatter. Technically speaking, it is impossible for these different systems to overlap. He cannot have both portals and anti matter fill up the insides of his body.  So it would be awkward to have both interpretations be used in the fight at once. If the portal version is used, Freeza can avoid a nasty surprise as a result of using a piercing physical attack by simply attacking from a distance. Even if he did lose a limb, Freeza has shown to keep fighting regardless of losing something like his tail, and at that point Freeza would know better than to try and attack Megatron physically. If we go with the Marvel interpretation, same deal, just vaporize the Decepticon from a distance.

That leads into the discussion of antimatter and how Freeza can deal with it though. As clarified before, Hakai and antimatter are not synonymous, and resisting the former does not mean resisting the latter. However, Freeza still has a good argument for being able to kind of resist antimatter. Antimatter works by changing matter it interacts with into pure energy, it’s basically fancy transmutation. This is important because Ki in Dragon Ball has shown to be able to be used to block spit from the Demon King Dabura, with said spit turning whatever it touches to stone, implying a transmutation resistance. This means that Freeza’s Ki projectiles and barriers specifically should actually be able to resist antimatter. Considering the size of Freeza’s more destructive Ki attacks and his tendency to ram into projectile attacks with Ki barriers, he should be capable of powering through Megatron’s antimatter without much issue. Even if Ki did not resist transmutation, it would still get in the way of the antimatter and be consumed instead of Freeza himself, and Freeza could additionally use telekinesis to simply push the antimatter away. Contact with antimatter also would not instantly be game over either, as previously stated Freeza has ridiculous survivability and could get away with losing a limb or two. Additionally the explosions produced by antimatter’s interaction with matter are simply releases of energy and not durability negation themselves, and thus are not anything to worry about.

To summarize, both have abilities that both cancel out and are not too important here, while Freeza is able to handle Megatron’s more standout abilities just fine.

Tertiary Factors

As far as other advantages go, there’s no denying Megatron is far more experienced and intelligent than the space emperor. He’s spent millions of years leading the Decepticons in battle against the Autobots, and spent several years as a gladiator ever since his creation. He’s capable of planning for thousands to millions of years to win a single battle, and can process thousands of battles happening simultaneously without being overwhelmed. Freeza isn’t dumb by any means and has shown plenty of tactics before, such as in the Tournament of Power, but none of those feats stand up to what Megatron has to offer. 

That said, it is worth noting Freeza is capable of fighting on par with incredibly skilled fighters like Goku and Vegeta, who’ve been trained in the art of combat since birth and are equal in skill against Gods of Destruction, beings even older than Megatron. It’s likely that Freeza can ultimately somewhat keep up in skill against the Decepticon, though he’s still outmatched in battle tactics and intellect

As for Freeza’s own advantages, he has far greater range and AoE, capable of blowing up planets without much effort. Megatron’s fusion cannon can cover a range of 20 miles, but several Dragon Ball characters can fire out energy waves capable of covering deep space. If Freeza’s range is scaled to the likes of Goku and Beerus, he could potentially even cover universal distances with his Ki, something Megatron hasn’t shown nor can escape. It also helps that Freeza’s smaller size makes him a smaller and thus harder to hit target, while the opposite applies for Megatron.

Another key advantage is endurance. While both of their survivability feats are fairly similar (both can keep on going even when split in half), Freeza’s feat of surviving an hour beat down from Super Saiyan Broly without dropping out of his Golden form is a better endurance feat than anything Megatron has shown. It’s also worth noting that Freeza’s survivability feats are also more consistent, as Megatron in the G1 Cartoon has been put down by similarly less lethal blows, and what it takes to kill a Transformer varies massively between several continuities.

To summarize, combat skills are relative even if Megatron has the advantage. While Megatron is smarter and more experienced, Freeza takes big advantages in range, AoE, and endurance.

Conclusion

"Before you begin your pathetic struggle to survive, I should warn you. Your chance of winning is nonexistent."

Advantages:

• Far stronger with finite AP ends…

• Comparable speed if given infinite speed…

• Greater endurance and resilience

• Better range and AOE

• Ki and telekinesis let him defend from antimatter without too much of an issue

• Megatron is susceptible to ball fart

Disadvantages:

• …but far weaker with infinite ends

• …but far slower with finite ends

• Slightly less versatile in terms of offensive options

• Far less experienced and intelligent

• One cocky motherfucker

Adding up all the details, Freeza has all the advantages needed to come out on top here, ironic considering the size difference. He has ways to deal with Megatron’s more potent abilities, would it be through playing safe with distanced Ki attacks or using his telekinesis, and being able to match Megatron’s infinite speeds lets him capitalize on his massive strength advantage. While antimatter is certainly useful, when your opponent can kill you with literally any attack while also being able to defend from it without too much of an issue, it is hard to justify a win. Overall while the Decepticon leader will certainly put up a fight, Lord Freeza will undoubtedly be bringing Cybertron a chilling demise.

Team Megatron

Stats

The comparison of stats in a debate like Freeza vs. Megatron is sure to be a divisive one. While Freeza can certainly be easily placed far above universal and massively faster than light, Megatron’s placement in stats can vary heavily depending on what scaling, media, and feats you might think are valid to give the Decepticon leader. But ultimately, Team Megatron feels that the Transformer has the stats he needs to take down Freeza.

For starters, Freeza’s stats can pretty reliably be locked into place, so let’s just start there. Given characters like Ultra Ego Vegeta have been placed at over a few hundred thousand times universal, it is quite obvious that Black Freeza will scale to all of this, possibly even upscaling or receiving extra multipliers. There’s really no reason whatsoever for this not to be the case, given Black Freeza was able to one shot Ultra Ego and Ultra Instinct without any serious effort or difficulty. And likewise, Freeza’s speed can easily be upscaled to be far, FAR above the speed of light without any difficulties. This has been established in multiple Death Battles already, and there is no reason why that would change now. Especially for a character like Freeza, who is established to be far stronger and superior to the core Dragon Ball cast, barring the possible exception of Beast Gohan.

Now obviously, it’s pretty clear that your typical standard feats that you would generally associate with Transformers lack the stuff to match this sort of capability. In fact, with your usual multi-continent, maybe planet level feats, Megatron would be stomped silly, and we would not have anything even resembling a debate here. But Megatron is a lot more dangerous than one would initially believe, and there’s more than meets the eye that allows the Decepticon to claim the edges he needs quite handily.

For starters, he has the power he needs to keep up with and surpass Freeza in power just fine. In the Japanese G1 continuity, Megatron attained a golden form (talk about fitting for this matchup, right?) that had the power to fuse together the entire multiverse! Now of course, given what was needed for Megatron to reach that form, it obviously is not standard in and of itself. Instead, the point here is that Megatron, ironically enough, would go on to be capable of scaling to this form in his base form instead. Convenient, huh?

You see, Golden Megatron was eventually defeated by an Autobot called Star Convoy, who is actually Optimus Prime in another form in another timeline. It’s rather complicated stuff. But regardless, it is important to note that Star Convoy defeated this enhanced form of Megatron without any power ups of his own beyond the Zodiac used to create the form. Later on in the timeline, characters match the power of the Zodiac to the point of entirely draining its energy, and are capable of providing enough energy to recreate Star Convoy. This means that by the later points in the timeline, Megatron would be capable of properly matching Star Convoy all on his own, in his own base form. As such, it is reasonable to say that Megatron, having grown stronger over time, could scale to what was once his peak and required a power up.

And even if you argued that the Japanese G1 continuity shouldn’t be used, it wouldn’t even matter! The Japanese continuity has crossed over with some of the western G1 continuities, and these Transformers have done battle with each other multiple times. Such an example would be Galvatron II fighting characters equal to the golden Megatron form and even being above it, and Megatron in Marvel can hold his own against Galvatron II. As such, guess who would still wind up scaling to Golden Megatron? That’s right, even if Megatron didn’t receive the direct scaling from the Japanese media being used, he would still scale to it.

With this sort of multiversal power at his robotic fingertips, Megatron could absolutely crush any level of power that Freeza would typically receive from a Death Battle, rendering any argument for a possible power edge for Freeza to be completely moot. But that’s really just the beginning of the fun here. Let’s go ahead and discuss just how fast Megatron can really be.

Speed in Transformers is absolutely ludicrous. There are actually numerous feats that can be given to Megatron that will absolutely crush your typical Dragon Ball speed feat, so let’s go ahead and cover all of them really quick. For starters, the Autobot known as Lightspeed (fitting name, isn’t it?) is capable of searching a decillion dimensions in a femtosecond. This clocks in at 3 unvigintillion times the speed of light. And that’s the absolute bare minimum of what that feat can get, it is likely much faster than that. Even better is the fact that Lightspeed isn't a Speedster and a nobody Autobot.

That alone is already enough to absolutely blitz Freeza without any difficulties, as is rather obvious. But there’s more! Another Autobot, named Mainframe, can calculate the value of pi to a centillion digits. And this one gets up to 5 duononagintillion times the speed of light. And to make things even crazier, the description confirming Mainframe does this also confirms that he has done this multiple times, just as a little hobby of his that he likes to do for fun. It genuinely cannot be an outlier by any means with that sort of casual performance happening all of the time just for amusement. And as the Decepticon leader who is always taking all of these Autobots on all of the time, it’s no question if Megatron should actually scale to these sorts of performances. And remember, on top of all that, the Autobot called Side Burn is stated to have infinite speed! There really just is no seeming limit to how fast the Transformers and Autobots can get, and their persistent enemy Megatron can easily scale to all of this.

Ultimately, what really needs to be said here? Megatron’s speed is absolutely insane, and there is pretty much nothing Freeza can do to match said levels of speed, let alone surpass it. Megatron has everything that he needs to completely blitz Freeza, and this means he will have no trouble whatsoever dodging everything his enemy will dish out. Megatron is free to take this fight at whatever pace he pleases and can annihilate Freeza in a blink with this sort of speed edge. And with the sort of power level that he can get from scaling to his golden form, he has the power he needs to win the battle in a single good blow. The fight can really just end faster than the blink of an eye, as Megatron just wipes Freeza off the face of the planet in a femtosecond.

But what about Freeza’s infinite speed arguments? Well, it’s rather questionable if he should really get such levels of speed. The best argument would likely be Zamasu covering the timeline and then being deleted by Zeno, which would have spread across the timeline and essentially time itself, arguably being immeasurable. But for starters, Freeza, even in his black state, obviously does not scale to Zeno. As for Zamasu, it is hard to say if his presence moving about should scale to his combat capability, or if it is something that he is actually reacting to. We don’t have proof that Zamasu really needed to react to anything while spreading about, so it is a bit tricky to say if this allows it to be scaled to reliable combat speed that Black Freeza could then scale to. But even then, it wouldn’t matter all too much, as this would only enable Freeza to be capable of matching Megatron in speed.

Overall, it is clear that Megatron has the tools and stats that he needs in order to claim a significant edge over his opponent here. Sure, Freeza is strong, but he isn’t some kind of threat to the multiverse, and it’s questionable if he can reach the sorts of speeds that Megatron very consistently scales to multiple times over and over again. Should Freeza fail to get the infinite speed he very much needs here, he is up against an absolutely horrendous blitz from Megatron that he has no real counters for. And even if we were as generous as possible to Freeza and said that he was somehow capable of matching Megatron blow for blow throughout the conversation of stats, it would not change the verdict whatsoever thanks to Megatron’s significant advantages in other categories. In fact, even if we did say Freeza was somehow stronger, even that would not change the verdict given the likely massive edge in speed that Megatron possesses here. The leader of the Decepticons claims the advantage in stats, possibly by an absolutely massive margin.

Arsenal & Abilities

Arsenal actually happens to be a very up and shut category that is unsurprisingly resulting in the favor of Megatron, by quite a lot. Now, to be fair to Freeza, he does possess an impressive array of projectiles and special attacks that can enable him to cover a huge distance. And he also boasts some impressive resistances, such as being able to counter things like time manipulation, or transmutation. Make no mistake, Freeza certainly isn’t some sort of weakling in a category like this whatsoever. It’s just that Megatron boasts an absolutely incredible arsenal that lets him brutally counter anything Freeza can do and claim another advantage in this battle to the death.

For starters, Megatron possesses the remarkable ability to absorb energy. As stated earlier in the blog, this ability does seem to somehow be passive in some regard, making it quite a useful power for Megatron to have on hand here. As such, one can absolutely make the argument that all of those energy-based projectiles are more or less just going to be free fuel for the Decepticon leader to absorb. Granted, one could argue that Megatron has never shown the ability to absorb life-energy like ki, but even going this route, Megatron is likely able to match Freeza's versatility in terms of long range attacks via having numerous guns and armaments. Freeza can use barriers and the like to keep himself safe from Megatron’s own energy attacks and strikes, but against a speed advantage like he is probably up against, this is unlikely at best and would swiftly be overwhelmed even if he did manage to get it up in time somehow.

Megatron even has other various powers that he can use to help turn the tables on Freeza as much as he needs to, such as creating black holes. These of course give Megatron yet another option for dealing with any projectiles, and can also pull Freeza in. This gives Megatron a way to control where exactly Freeza is on the battlefield and what he can do or force him in for an attack. Or possibly just suck Freeza into the black hole and let that do its thing. Powers like Megatron’s memory manipulation have never been shown working on organic beings, so it is a bit questionable if he would be able to perform these sorts of techniques on his non-robotic foe, but it goes to show how much versatility Megatron brings to the table.

And of course, this all goes without mentioning the elephant in the room, Megatron’s anti-matter. While it should be noted that there are risks to utilizing the anti-matter, it can also be remembered that Megatron at his absolute peak is generally capable of utilizing the stuff rather effectively. And with the likely huge speed advantage he has, this wouldn’t really be an issue regardless. The anti-matter essentially gives Megatron a way to bypass defenses and destroy the target on the spot, making any conventional durability or resilience moot as the anti-matter just kills its target on the spot without any serious issues. This gives Megatron an incredible way to just ignore Freeza’s admittedly remarkable resilience in the face of high damage, as the anti-matter will just overcome anything Freeza can do about it and kill him anyway. And remember, Megatron can produce enough anti-matter to destroy half a planet, which requires a ridiculous amount of anti-matter reacting to produce an explosion that big. It is pretty much a solid one hit kill that Megatron can nail Freeza with quite reliably. And given the versatility of the anti-matter combined with Megatron’s speed and experience, he’ll likely be able to hit Freeza with this strike quite reliably, ending the battle on the spot the second he chooses to break out the big guns. It is worth mentioning that as it was explained earlier, Hakai and Antimatter are different to the point where Freeza can't resist Antimatter. Megatron also has a few ways to use Anti Matter, like with cubes and another gun.

In short, the debate on who has the superior arsenal isn’t exactly a close one. Sure, Freeza has some impressive, ranged attacks and some solid durability, but Megatron just has the perfect means to counteracting those without difficulty. Although Freeza wouldn't be affected by Megatron's energy absorption, however, thanks to anti-matter, Megatron has a way to kill Freeza immediately. Even if Freeza were somehow stronger than the Decepticon, this gives Megatron a way to overcome that problem with ease and just shut Freeza down without any difficulties. The category of arsenal goes to Megatron, no questions asked.

Tertiary Factors

The subject of tertiary factors really is not a close one. To start with the most obvious one, Megatron just has Freeza beat in experience by an absolute landslide, any way you slice it. Sure, Freeza’s been conquering planets for quite a while and is certainly an established threat to the universe. He’s battled a wide array of foes and managed to come out on top many times. But Megatron has been leading a universal war for millions of years, both fighting as a Decepticon and as an Autobot. There’s just about nothing Megatron hasn’t seen in battle or in strategy, and he is more than used to one-on-one combat as well. Freeza is just nowhere even close to what Megatron has in terms of battle experience.

Even if one were to argue that Freeza could keep up somewhat thanks to fighting with Goku and Vegeta, but even they are not on the same scale as the Decepticon. Now obviously, Freeza has battled foes with much more experience than him before, and sometimes even wins. But even the Saiyans have nowhere even close to the amount of battle experience Megatron and other Transformers have on the battlefield. The margin of difference that is happening here just enormously eclipses what could be argued for Freeza battling the likes of Goku and Vegeta, so it is really quite questionable if this should really be used as a counter for any sort of experience advantage.

The same likely applies for skill. Sure, Freeza is skilled. But Megatron is again a specialist in combat who has honed his craft time and time again over the years. Even before he was a war leader, he was a gladiator, constantly doing battle and mastering his abilities to be as refined as possible to continue the fight. Freeza has trained and refined his skills nowhere close to Megatron, making it where the two are just not comparable here either.

Now, Freeza could be argued to have advantages in endurance and range. Freeza likely does have a wider range with his attacks compared to Megatron, but we’ve already established why this really isn’t an issue. Between the massive speed gap, Durability Negation, black holes, and even shields of all sorts, Megatron really doesn’t have anything to worry about with Freeza’s ranged strikes at all. And the same applies to endurance. What’s going to matter to Megatron how much Freeza can survive when the anti-matter can very much put a lid on that? Even if Freeza did somehow only lose a limb or two from these, Megatron can just keep up the pressure and whittle Freeza down. He has the means and skills needed to do that, after all. Freeza would only be stalling the inevitable, and there is little that any possible endurance edge could do for him here against the leader of the Decepticons.

Ultimately, Megatron just dominates the tertiary factors, by a huge margin. He is way more experienced and skilled than anybody Freeza has ever done battle against, and he has the counters to any possible edges that one could give Freeza here. The battle of tertiary factors is just brutally one-sided, and it again falls into the hands of Lord Megatron.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Hasbro’s Decepticon leader has the tools and the tricks needed to take down Lord Freeza once and for all. He’s likely much faster than anything Freeza can ever reach, making it where Megatron can take all the time he needs to ensure Freeza never lands so much as a single blow on him with great ease, and likely holds a significant edge in the field of power as well. Megatron absolutely crushes Freeza in the fields of arsenal and tertiary factors as well, so even if the stats were completely equalized, Megatron would still be capable of winning this fight much more often than not to defeat Freeza. Overall, Freeza just didn’t have the skills needed to win this fight and had to be put on ice.

The winner is Megatron.
