Death Battle Predictions: Jason Voorhees VS Michael Myers

“I was born with the Devil in me. I could not help the fact that I was a murderer, no more than a poet can help the inspiration to sing… I was born with the Evil One standing as my sponsor beside the bed where I was ushered into the world, and he has been with me since.”

-H.H. Holmes

Jason Voorhees, the undead killer of Crystal Lake from Friday the 13th.

Michael Myers, the Shape that haunts Haddonfield on Halloween.

Mankind themselves are terrors of the silent night. As man has always been atop the food chain, we always forget our animal instincts. Hunting down our target, stalking them, and striking in the moment of surprise. In those precious last seconds, the prey stares into the empty eyes of the hunter who took them down, and has their life extinguished. And at last, on Halloween night, two of cinema's best harbingers of murder cross paths. They are the faceless masks all think of when envisioning pure evil, with hundreds of bodies massacred between them since their childhoods. The term “Slasher” exists thanks to these supernatural killers, and now, they have eyes on each other, and only one can be crowned the “King of Horror”; Can Jason withstand the devil’s eyes to stab the Shape? Or will Michael be able to drown the mascot of Crystal Lake for good? On Halloween Night, Death Battle will die to answer this question.

Before We Start…

Given Halloween’s lack of a “true” canonical timeline (due to having 3 that just retcon each other), as well as the surplus of canon-adjacent material for Jason, this blog will be a near-full composite for both, including all of the above and their rebooted incarnations. It’s also worth noting that, as Freddy vs. Jason is explicitly canon, and crossovers such as its sequel comics crossing over with Evil Dead are canon-adjacent, they will be used in this analysis, though generally only focusing on feats from those respective crossovers. Don’t go in expecting high-tier Nightmare feats or unironic attempts at scaling to Marvel Zombies through Ash (Though him shooting Sentry is pretty funny, so it’s here).

Also, as his gear is essentially incompatible with traditional Jason, none of Über Jason’s equipment will be utilized. However, as there’s a dedicated comic limited series and a novel about zombie Jason dueling decently well with his future self, scaling to Über Jason’s actual feats is ultimately usable for his prior self.

This blog will also contain spoilers for Halloween Ends, since it was released on Peacock a few days before the creation of this blog and thus will be taken into consideration and examination. If you don’t want to get spoiled and wish to watch the movie for yourself before reading this, we suggest that you do so.

Oh, and obvious viewer discretion warning for nudity and gore.

Background

Jason Voorhees

"There's a legend around here. A killer buried, but not dead. A curse on Crystal Lake, a death curse. Jason Voorhees' curse. They say he died as a boy, but he keeps coming back. Few have seen him and lived. Some have even tried to stop him... No one can. People forget he's down there, waiting..."

The year is 1957. A young deformed boy is at a summer camp (most likely due to how much his mother smoked during her pregnancy). Forgotten and bullied due to his physical and mental issues, the only friend he had was his mother, a cook at Camp Crystal Lake. This mother was Pamela Voorhees, and the boy was her son, Jason. Jason spent most of his time with his mother, but on one fateful day, she left him unattended, and the bullies who messed with him took it too far; Jason tried to escape, but the bullies caught up with him and threw the boy in the lake. And nobody was paying any attention, for the counselors were distracted by premarital sex (this will become a trend). The boy could only cry out for his mother before he sank to the bottom and drowned.

Needless to say, this incident drove the camp under. It was closed and all the kids were sent home, at least for the year. Fast forward one year, and the camp is reopened. Everybody forgot about the Jason incident, as it was ruled an accident. Everybody except for Pamela. Her only son, the person she cared about the most in the world, was killed, and no justice was served. It was enough to drive any mother crazy… and it did, for that summer of 1958, Pamela cornered two teens, the counselors on duty when Jason drowned, and stabbed them to death. She was never caught, but unlike Jason, these could be proved as homicides, so the camp closed down again. This time for decades.

But it was reopened, and Pamela, still on the premises, attempted to kill everyone involved with its reopening, with delusions of Jason telling her to kill. Counselors, owners, and all. She nearly succeeded in killing everyone before revealing herself to the first final girl of the series, Alice Hardy, who after a chase, decapitated her with a machete. All seemed to be over (not counting a jumpscare, which is a whole other realm of confusing). Only problem is, a certain deformed boy wouldn't go down so easily (another trend that will become common). Thanks to Necronomicon Ex-Mortis: the Book of the Dead, Jason was reanimated as an undead Revenant. In this new state, Jason hid in the woods on his own, watching over his mom, the only person who cared about him, before he saw her decapitated by Alice. Seeing your own mother struck down so gruesomely was enough to drive any son crazy… and it did. Well… more than he already was, anyway.

Jason, now out for blood, tracked down Alice and killed her with an ice pick before returning to Crystal Lake. Any time a new set of people came to set up there, he restarted his spree. This happened twice, with a victim or two escaping each time before he met his greatest foe, Tommy Jarvis. During Jason’s third spree, after killing almost everyone present, Tommy distracted Jason from killing his sister by masquerading as his child self before driving Jason’s own machete into his head, killing him. Seemingly for good (all of this was in the span of a few days, mind you).

The events of Part V: A New Beginning then happened. Besides traumatizing Tommy some more, nothing noteworthy happened. Instead, Jason’s story continued in Part VI: Jason Lives, where he got revived as an undead zombie killer. He went on this blood-filled endeavor for some time, battling against a telekinetic teenager named Tina and even taking his rampage to Manhattan before eventually gaining enough notoriety to be hunted down by the FBI and promptly being taken out. But as it turns out, it’s impossible for any ordinary person to put him down for good, as only a Voorhees can permanently end the hockey-masked menace, otherwise he just keeps coming back even if his whole body is destroyed, as he still lives on as a… worm-like body-hopping creature (don’t ask, Jason Goes to Hell is weird). Eventually, he was laid to rest and sent to the depths of Hell thanks to the efforts of his relative Jessica.

But not even Hell itself could keep the undead Voorhees down for good, as he just… appeared back out of Hell somehow and wreaked havoc once again. Though he wasn’t the only slasher in town this time around, as he threw hands with the dream terror himself, Freddy Krueger, who just so happened to be the one to bring him back to Earth in the first place in an effort to get the teenagers of Springwood to remember him. It was a tense bout, but with a little help, the Crystal Lake Killer made the nightmare be forgotten once again and showed who’s the one true slasher to be feared. He quietly returned to Camp Crystal Lake, always watching and always ready to be rid of any trespassers…

…Oh, and sometime after that, he got himself arrested and cryogenically frozen for hundreds of years until he was awoken and taken to outer space in a spaceship. Then, through some series of events, he found himself as a cyborg known as Über Jason, where he fought androids and fell all the way down to another Earth’s surface… remember when this was just a story about some killer lurking around some campgrounds?

Despite some of his more absurd ventures, Jason Voorhees is a name to be feared around the waters of Crystal Lake and will continue to uphold that for the sake of his dear late mother, no matter what.

Michael Myers

“I met him 15 years ago; I was told there was nothing left; no reason, no conscience, no understanding in even the most rudimentary sense of life or death, of good or evil, right or wrong. I met this... six-year-old child with this blank, pale, emotionless face, and... the blackest eyes - the Devil's eyes. I spent eight years trying to reach him, and then another seven trying to keep him locked up, because I realized that what was living behind that boy's eyes was purely and simply... evil..”

Some say evil isn’t born, but instead, made; used to mold innocent beings into monsters. That was proven wrong by the man known as Michael Myers.

On Halloween night in the year 1963, the Myers family was irrevocably shattered when the youngest child Michael, at the age of six, committed his very first act of murder; on his own sister, Judith Myers. He was promptly arrested and locked up in Smith’s Grove Sanitarium and put under the care of his psychiatrist, Doctor Loomis. While Loomis made his best efforts to uncover the mystery of Michael and truly reach out to and help him, he just couldn’t. The more time he spent with Michael, the more the realization came to him: Michael was the true embodiment of evil, and there was nothing more to uncover than that.

Fast-forward 15 years later, a young high school student named Laurie Strode had her entire life changed on (once again) Halloween night. She had simple plans: to babysit a young Tommy Doyle like she spent most of her free nights doing; ever the saint, unlike her friends, who’d take the holiday as an opportunity to party. Unfortunately for her, it was around this time that “The Babysitter Killer” made his escape from Smith’s Grove by hijacking a car from one of the nurses at the sanitarium and making his grand return to Haddonfield, as this was the night he came home.

After stealing a modified William Shatner mask from a hardware store and a pair of overalls from a mechanic, Michael was ready to begin his killing spree. This resulted in the eventual deaths of Laurie’s friends, and while Michael was temporarily defeated after Loomis shot him off the balcony of his old house, he later went on to terrorize Laurie in the hospital where she resided. It was revealed around then that Michael was actually Laurie’s older brother, with Laurie being adopted by the Strodes some time after Judith’s death. In the end, Michael was finally taken out at this hospital thanks to an explosion caused by Laurie and Loomis’ quick thinking.

…In one timeline, at least. Halloween is a franchise that has multiple timelines spanning its multiple movies, shown in this diagram below, so strap in.

In the “Thorn Trilogy” (4 to 6), Michael survived his injuries from Halloween II and returned to Haddonfield to continue the hunt for Laurie. Although he did not find Laurie, who died a little after the events of Halloween II, he just so happened to stumble upon the next best thing; Laurie’s daughter, Jamie, who he apparently has a psychic connection to (if it doesn't sound weird to you, it should). Did we also mention that he becomes the host body to a supernatural demon/force called Thorn that curses him to murder his family?

In the H20 Timeline (H20 and Resurrection), Laurie faked her death after Halloween II and managed to make her way to California under the name of Keri Tate. Despite living on the near opposite side of the country, Laurie was an alcoholic by this point and continued to live in fear of Michael, believing that he would return someday soon. Her fears were proven true when Michael stole a file on Laurie from the now-deceased Loomis and tracked her down to finish the job.

In the 2018 timeline (2018, Kills, and Ends), Laurie was no longer considered to be Michael’s sibling, as that plot point only existed in the second movie. Here, Michael was caught by the authorities after falling off of the roof of his house and was taken back into Smith’s Grove. Forty years later, Michael was being prepared for transfer to a maximum security state prison, where Michael’s psychiatrist orchestrated his escape to study him “in the wild.” After retrieving his mask from true crime podcasters and a pair of coveralls from a mechanic (by killing them, how else lmao), Michael returned to Haddonfield and was now taking on not just Laurie, who had trained herself in defense to prepare for his comeback, but the entire town, who were hellbent on seeing the demise of the man that had haunted it for as long as they could remember.

In the Rob Zombie remakes, Michael was the child of a rather broken and dysfunctional family. He began his kill count with a school bully, before moving on to his mother's abusive boyfriend, his sister's boyfriend, and finally his older sister Judith. Only his baby sister, Angel Myers, was spared by his first massacre. Following a lengthy trial, Michael was sent to Smith's Grove Sanitarium to be looked over by Dr. Loomis, along with frequent visits from his mother. But following her suicide, the boy retreated from the world, eventually being abandoned by even Dr. Loomis. 15 years later though, Michael made a bloody escape and returned to Haddonfield to find his only remaining family member, Angel; now Laurie Strode. All in all, the remakes were the usual Halloween story, just with a lot of extra gore and sex. Thanks, Rob Zombie.

In Dead by Daylight, Michael and Laurie were taken into a Lovecraftian Entity’s personal realm to live out its twisted necessity to feed off of emotions. This is where Michael is capable of impaling boulder enthusiast Chris Redfield from Resident Evil and “Eren Yeager” from Attack on Titan onto a meat hook.

And then there’s Halloween III, which doesn’t even have Michael physically appear outside of a cameo on a TV, as this movie instead focused more on brain-melting Halloween masks, which… yeah.

No matter the timeline, the shape of Michael Myers looms over Haddonfield. No matter how long it's been, no one is truly safe from the Boogeyman.

Equipment

Jason

Hockey Mask

THE thing that makes Jason the recognizable horror icon he is. While he originally donned a potato sack in Part 2, he got his trademark mask from one of his victims in Part III, though he’d get many a replacement hockey mask throughout the series, usually because of the previous one sustaining too much damage. And yet, despite the damage it takes, it usually has that iconic axe mark in it. Like all hockey masks, it protects Jason’s face from serious harm (no seriously, Kane Hodder has gone on record saying that the mask may have saved his life during a stunt).

Machete

While Jason used various weapons throughout his killing sprees, his most iconic weapon of choice is the machete (the chainsaw is more Leatherface’s thing). It’s his favorite weapon, presumably in a twisted way to remember his mother, as a machete was the thing that killed her. A machete is a broad blade often used as a long-bladed knife in combat and is typically 12 to 18 inches long and under 1/8th of an inch thick, and Jason’s doesn't seem to dull even after over 20 years of slashing. Not only is it a good stabbing weapon, but thanks to Jason’s supernatural strength, the machete can easily slice people like a hot knife through butter. He can decapitate multiple people at once with the machete, cut more than one person in half along with a tree, and even use it to bisect an entire human body. It also works as a great throwing weapon. One time, he even wielded two machetes thanks to Freddy.

Knife

Aside from his signature machete, a weapon that Jason frequently uses throughout the Friday the 13th franchise is a knife. Jason uses the knife to either stab his victims or slit their throats.

Axe

Before the machete, there was the axe, Jason's second-most-used weapon in the series which can break through a door and stab the person behind it, Jack Torrance style. He’s also used a double-sided axe in a few movies. If a victim runs away, Jason can simply throw the axe at them with perfect accuracy.

Pickaxe

Another weapon Jason keeps at Camp Crystal Lake is a pickaxe, a tool normally used for prying. The pointed end of the pickaxe is used for breaking and prying while the flat blade is for hoeing, skimming, and chopping. Perfect for killing horny teenagers.

Pitchfork

Another weapon Jason has at his disposal is a pitchfork, a tool used against his victims in Part II, Part III, and The Final Chapter. To kill his victims, Jason drives the pitchfork through their mouths from behind or into their stomach to lift them up. The pitchfork is even strong enough to burst through a wooden door.

Fire Iron

Also known as a fire poker, the fire iron is a weapon Jason used in Part III and the 2009 reboot. Jason would sometimes heat up the stick of iron with a nearby fire before impaling it into a victim’s body.

Spear

Another weapon in Jason’s collection is a spear that he uses for brutal and terrifying kills. Most often, he’ll impale the spear through the heads or torsos of his victims.

Spear Gun

The spear gun is another murder weapon Jason frequently uses in his franchise, most notably in Part III, The Final Chapter, and Jason Takes Manhattan. It’s a firearm that shoots a spear or harpoon at victims a good 10 to 26 feet away. Jason also uses the spear gun as a stabbing weapon to sadistically torment his victims.

Bow and Arrows

What’s a camp killer without using a bow and arrow? Though unlike a normal camper, Jason is very skilled with it, as he’s able to hit people miles away on a speeding boat

Throwing Knives

Yes, Jason has these. There’s not much else to say besides these are knives one throws for… well, what else but killing?

Barbed Wire

Jason carries a long string of barbed wire to choke people out. However, since it’s barbed wire, the process is a slow and painful death for the victim.

Bear Traps

Coming from the 2009 reboot and the game, Jason can set traps around to catch unsuspecting campers.

Snares

Jason has set up snare traps to hoist enemies by their feet into the air so he can slt their throats at his leisure.

Michael

Mask

Like his opponent, Michael Myers is a recognizable horror character thanks to his mask. This modified William Shatner mask was originally stolen from a hardware store the night Michael escaped from Smith's Grove Sanitarium and, just like Jason’s hockey mask, it’s gone through several revisions and changes throughout the movies the Shape has appeared in, whether it’s from replacement masks or his current one suffering wear and age.

Coveralls

The rest of Michael’s attire, whether stolen from a gas station attendant or some random trucker or mechanic.

Kitchen Knife

Michael’s iconic main weapon of choice, usually stolen from an unsuspecting victim’s knife set. It doesn’t matter what brand the knife is or which home it originally came from; it’s a murder weapon all the same.

Axe

(Really going deep with composites, huh?)

After somehow getting into Call of Duty: Ghosts, the primary weapon that Michael armed himself with was... an axe (you had ONE job, Activision!). This axe seems to possess a special ability that is dispersing a white fog, implied to be the victim’s soul, whenever Michael uses it to kill someone

Ropes and Cords

While not using his trusty knife, Michael is still very proficient at improvising with a variety of tools, including a set of rope he’s stolen from the same department store where he got his famous William Shatner mask or just found on the scene and put to good use.

1978 Ford LTD Station Wagon

A vehicle Michael hijacked from Dr. Loomis in the wake of his escape from Smith's Grove Sanitarium and later used to stalk the unsuspecting citizens of Haddonfield. How did he learn to drive when he’s been locked up since childhood? Idk.

Misc. Weapons

For this section, we will be showing the one-off weapons both used with the kills they did with them. They are slasher villains, after all, and creative kills are part of their M.O.s.

Jason

Ice Pick

After witnessing his mother being decapitated by final girl Alice Hardy, Jason sought revenge. He accomplished this by tracking Alice to her house and killed her by driving an ice pick into her temple.

Hammer

When Deputy Winslow stumbled upon Jason’s makeshift shack in Part 2, Voorhees snuck up behind the police officer and embedded a hammer’s claw into his skull, killing him instantly. Jason would use a hammer as a weapon on more separate occasions, such as attempting to kill Trish Jarvis by throwing one at her in The Final Chapter.

Meat Cleaver

After the events of Part 2, an injured Jason Voorhees went to a lakefront store for a new change of clothes and killed the couple who owned the store. He killed Harold, the owner of the store, by striking a meat cleaver to his torso. Jason would use another meat cleaver to kill Jimmy in The Final Chapter.

Knitting Needle

After killing Harold, Jason decided to kill the store owner’s wife Edna. He punched through a window with his hand to grab Edna and stuck a knitting needle through the back of her head, and it came out through her mouth in the front.

Fuse Box

In Part III, nearly all of Jason’s victims were staying over at Higgins Haven. During his massacre, Jason turned off the house’s power, causing one of the victims, Chuck Garth, to go down to the basement to check on the fuse box. However, Jason was waiting for someone to come down. He grabbed Chuck by the throat and threw him to the fuse box, electrifying him to death (shocking, we know). This wouldn’t be the last time Jason used a fuse box to kill someone though, as he did the same thing to Wayne in Jason Takes Manhattan.

Hacksaw

After the events of Part III, Jason was taken to a morgue having been believed to be dead. However, he spontaneously came back to life and killed the coroner Axel Burns, by slashing his neck with a hacksaw before twisting his head around.

Scalpel

At the morgue he was taken to in The Final Chapter, Jason snuck up on nurse Robbie Morgan and grabbed her by the neck. He pinned her to the wall and used a scalpel to slit her torso open.

Corkscrew

After engaging in premarital sex with Tina (no, not the telekinetic teenager), Jimmy went down to the kitchen for a bottle of wine. After asking his friend Ted where the missing corkscrew was, Jason answered the call by pinning the corkscrew to Jimmy’s hand.

Garden Claw

In The Final Chapter, Jason used a garden claw found in the Jarvis Family’s basement to stab Robert Dier to death, leaving the poor boy unable to avenge his sister. If you didn’t know it could kill, Rob makes it very apparent.

Fence Post

In his attempt to destroy Jason’s body at a cemetery, Tommy Jarvis grabbed a metal fence post and impaled the hockey-masked killer’s corpse with it at the start of Jason Lives. However, he didn’t expect the post to act as a lightning rod and contribute to Jason’s resurrection as an undead killer. Following Tommy’s escape, Jason used the fence post as his main weapon until he found a new machete. Jason wielded the impromptu weapon as a spear and killed two head counselors by impaling them with it. Nice going, Tommy.

Glass Bottle

In Jason Lives, Jason caught an empty glass bottle that was thrown away by the graveyard caretaker Martin. Martin had mentioned earlier that his bottle of alcohol would be the death of him, so Jason made it into a reality by breaking the bottle and using the broken shards to stab him in the throat.

Dart

During his killing spree at the renamed Camp Crystal Lake in Jason Lives, Jason killed Officer Thornton by throwing a dart to his head with perfect accuracy.

Tent Stake

After being accidentally awoken by telekinetic teenager Tina Shepard, Jason rose from his watery grave of Crystal Lake and went on another killing spree. Two of his first victims in The New Blood were Jane and Michael (no, not Myers). He killed the couple with a tent spike, first by using it to pin Jane to a tree through her neck, and then by throwing the spike at Michael’s back and pushing it further into his body when he lifted the man up.

Sleeping Bag

In The New Blood, one of Jason’s victims was a girl named Judy, who was waiting at a tent for her boyfriend Dan to come back from collecting firewood. Jason found Judy in her tent, abducted her in her sleeping bag, and slammed it against a nearby tree, killing the young woman in one hit. Jason would later do a similar kill on two simulation girls in Jason X.

Crystal Lake

Sometimes if a victim decides to go swimming in the icy waters of Crystal Lake, Jason will swim over to them like a shark and pull them down to the depths of the water, drowning them. A good example is with Sandra in The New Blood.

Sickle

In The New Blood, Jason chased Maddy to a nearby barn after she discovered Russel’s corpse. She hid behind a wall, but Jason easily found her. He punched through a wooden wall to grab her and used a sickle for an offscreen stab to the stomach.

Party Horn

In The New Blood, Jason uses a party horn to kill Katy by stabbing into her head through her left eye after the girl stuck her head out of a van to call out for her boyfriend.

Weed Whacker

The only motorized tool that Jason has used in any Friday film. He used it in The New Blood to end the life of final girl/telekinetic teenager Tina’s corrupt doctor Christopher Crews by disemboweling him (though most of the onscreen carnage was cut thanks to the MPAA).

Gibson Flying V Guitar

Originally belonging to a young woman on the SS Lazarus named J.J. Jarrett, Jason literally utilized the power of rock by striking her in the head with her own guitar, killing her. Rock on!

Heroin Needle

In Jason Takes Manhattan, final girl Rennie got drugged with a needle full of heroin by a pair of junkies. Before one of them could have his way with her, Jason stopped him by impaling the discarded needle through the man’s torso. What a hero.

Chain

In Jason X, after breaking free from his confinements, Jason fought off a group of government soldiers trying to stop him. At one point, Jason channeled his inner Scorpion and tied a long chain around a soldier’s neck before he pulled the thing, snapping the poor dude’s neck.

Noose Pole

During his fight with the government soldiers, Jason grabbed a noose pole and smashed it against a soldier’s head. Part of the pole broke, turning it into a makeshift spear. Dr. Wimmer tried to flee the scene, but Jason threw the broken pole and successfully killed Wimmer via impalement.

Liquid Nitrogen

After waking up from cryostasis in Jason X, the first thing Jason did is attack intern Adrienne Thomas by freezing her face in a sink filled with liquid nitrogen. Afterwards, he smashed her frozen face into pieces by slamming it against a table.

Bed

Jason often finds a lot of his victims in bed, usually having premarital sex, and he would normally kill them during or after the act. One time in Freddy vs. Jason, the hockey-masked killer decided to use the bed itself as a weapon by folding it in half along with the victim, Trey Cooper.

Freddy Krueger’s Arm

During his second battle with Freddy Krueger in Freddy vs. Jason, Jason physically tore off the dream demon’s right arm. This is important because Krueger wears his infamous finger knife glove on his right hand. Near the end of the film, just when Freddy was about to kill final girl Lori Campbell and her boyfriend Will Rollins, Jason impaled the dream demon with his own arm. This forced Freddy to drop Jason’s machete, which Lori used to finish him off.

Clipboard

The tool of choice of a poor S-Mart employee. Judging by how effective it was when Jason used it to sever his head from his body, he definitely shopped smart, shopped S-Mart… or not. He did get murdered by Jason, after all.

Shopping Cart

Jason once used a shopping cart to kill an unlucky S-Mart customer by slamming it down on him, turning him into dead minced meat.

Michael

Phone Cord

Fresh after killing Lynda’s boyfriend, Michael disguised himself as him to get closer to her and strangle her with a phone cord while she was on the phone with Laurie. He didn't ask if she likes scary movies though.

Hammer

A deadly blunt weapon in any killer’s hands, the claw of which Michael used to dispose of Haddonfield Memorial Hospital’s security guard Mr. Garrett

Hot Tub

In Halloween II, Michael used a hot tub that was in the hospital Laurie was residing in to drown a nurse in its… well, hot water. As for why this hospital had a hot tub in it in the first place, that’s up for debate.

Scalpel

A surgical tool turned deadly weapon that was used by Michael during his spree in Haddonfield's hospital. He used it to violently stab Nurse Jill and slit the marshall Terrence Gummel’s throat.

Syringe

Michael has used empty syringes to kill a doctor offscreen by stabbing him in the eye and a nurse onscreen by stabbing her in the temple and injecting her with air to form an air embolism in the brain.

Metal Rod

After making his escape from the ambulance post his not-so-near-death experience, Michael made his way to a mechanic’s shop to once again steal his beloved coveralls by spiking a man working there.

Shotgun

Michael has carried a firearm at one point, though instead of firing the gun like a normal person, he instead used it as (what else) another means of impalement, stabbing them so thoroughly it went through the wall behind them. Pretty excessive, but it works.

Scissors

A pair of scissors that Michael used to unceremoniously stab to death a heroine from a previous movie, Rachel.

Garden Claw

If it has a sharp edge, you can bet Michael will stab someone with it, especially his namesake. Gardening tools are never an exception.

Mowing Scythe

Michael used a mowing scythe in The Revenge of Michael Myers on a girl’s neck in a barn after he had just killed her boyfriend moments before with a…

Pitchfork

As was just stated, Michael used a pitchfork to kill not only this lady’s boyfriend before killing her with the scythe, but also two bumbling cops (and their wacky clown sound effects) offscreen.

Corn Thresher

An agricultural device Michael used to dispose of his niece by impaling her onto the machine and subsequently switching it on, ripping through her inner organs.

Hatchet

A small axe that Michael used to swiftly and stylishly kill the new resident of his family house.

Surgical Machete

A heavy-duty surgical instrument that Michael found quite to his liking and massacred an entire operating room with.

Tripod

Used by Michael to both stab one of the filming crew guys and get some sick first-person shots of the kill. Michael truly is an artist of his craft.

Ice Skate

Michael in H20 killed this teenager named Jimmy Howell with an ice skate. The death itself happened offscreen, but James A. Janisse awarded this kill the coveted Golden Chainsaw, so that’s something.

Halligan Bar

Taken from and used to brutally slaughter the entire group of firefighters by Michael’s hands shortly after escaping Laurie’s death trap of a house.

Circular Saw

A tool used to kill one of the resisting firefighters by overpowering and turning his last hope against him.

Fluorescent Lamp

A makeshift weapon Michael used to stab Laurie’s neighbor in the throat.

Old Huckleberry

A wannabe symbol of resistance to Michael in the form of a baseball bat used by the leader of an angry Haddonfield mob, Tommy Doyle. The revolt completely backfired and Old Huckleberry was the weapon of Tommy’s destruction when the attempt at Myers' life ultimately failed.

Shovel

A random shovel Michael has in the comics that he used to dig a grave in order to distract Sean before killing him with it

Barbed Wire

Smile. This was used by Michael one time in the comics to leave a teacher hanging

Abilities

Jason

Supernatural Strength/Revenant Deadite Physiology

Jason was already stronger than the average human, as well as having a grossly malformed heart that's twice as big of a average human’s, but in his undead state, he has grown strong enough to punch a head off in one swing, fold a bed in a V shape to finish killing a guy and much more.

Supernatural Endurance/Durability

Whether as a human or as a zombie, Jason has survived many things that no mortal man should. No matter how much lethal damage is given to him, the slasher from Camp Crystal Lake keeps getting back up, whether it be from battling a telekinetic teenager or the Nightmare on Elm Street himself. When he was human, Jason had an axe embedded into his head and his machete sliced deep into his shoulder on separate occasions yet kept on moving. As a zombie, Jason can tank bullets like it’s nothing, from pistols to sub-machine guns to shotguns to assault rifles to LMGs to even an entire FBI task force firing at him. In addition, Jason can walk off a tank being thrown at him or being set on fire. Not even pepper spray can work on him, as well as being frozen

Healing Factor

Jason, as unkillable as killers can be, comes with a healing factor, and it's not a weak one either; Jason has had holes shot through him and has regenerated those parts back instantly. He also had his eye shattered from being frozen and a giant hole blasted through him, both of which quickly regenerated themselves.

Intelligence

For a slasher villain, Jason is surprisingly intelligent. In the 2007 Friday the 13th comic run, Jason was smart enough to destroy a car so the protagonists could not escape. Besides that, he has been shown to construct a makeshift home for himself, as shown in the games and movies. To further support this, his usage of hunting skills from laying traps to tracking shows how much Jason knows.

Super Hearing

What makes a giant undead killer 10 times more scary? Well, the fact that he can hear your footsteps from across a camp, which is exactly what Jason can do.

Morph/Teleportation

In Friday The 13th: the Game, Jason is able to teleport (or Morph, as is referred to in-game). With this, Jason can teleport anywhere in his near vicinity. Even outside the games, he’s shown signs of teleporting in Part III and (more notably) Jason Takes Manhattan, where he’s been shown teleporting around a dance floor and appearing before this guitarist lady despite being on a higher staircase than her, and her checking on Jason’s position moments before her death. Mortal Kombat X refers to this ability as “Lake Mist”.

Sense/Heightened Senses

With Sense, Jason can sense if anyone is in a building or even within its range via letting Jason see them through surrounding objects.

Shift

Shift allows Jason to move way faster, allowing him to close the distance to his target and score a kill.

Stalk/Stealth

With Stalk, Jason is able to silence his footsteps to get the jump on unsuspecting victims. In the films, he’s seen pulling a Solid Snake on an unsuspecting soldier by dragging him into the shadows and silently snapping his neck.

Rage

Jason can go into a rage state where he gets tougher and stronger, making himself a more deadly threat to his victims.

Jason Curse

Even after “death”, Jason is still dangerous thanks to his curse. With this, Jason can possess people with his soul by messing with their minds and making them eat his heart. Though after he possesses someone, Jason will become a worm… thing, and the only way for him to regain his original body is by a family member. When he leaves someone's body, it will melt, killing them.

Michael

Curse of Thorn

A curse placed on Michael by the Cult of Thorn's leader Dr. Wynn in 1963, that only exists in the 4-6 timeline. It makes Michael pure evil and is a way to explain why Michael killed his family and how he can survive so many things despite being a seemingly normal human. The Curse being put on Michael was meant to ensure the Cult’s survival, but the Shape eventually got tired of serving them (we don’t blame him, since this plot point ain’t that good to begin with) and murdered its members too. It's unclear if the Curse eventually wore off after the Cult died or if it would continue until Michael finally perishes, but Dr. Loomis speculates that the rage inside Michael would eventually destroy him (and since Michael is never confirmed dead in the 4-6 timeline, there's no way to verify this).

Empowerment

("I always thought Michael Myers was flesh and blood, just like you and me, but a mortal man could not have survived what he's lived through. The more he kills, the more he transcends into something else impossible to defeat. Fear, people were afraid. That is the true curse of Michael.")

Introduced in the 2018 Timeline with Halloween Kills, the basic gist of it is that the more people Michael kills, the stronger he becomes.

This is supported during the climax of the film, where Michael was seemingly out for the count before a monologue from Laurie explains how due to the fear he spread throughout the community and the people who’ve fallen victim to him, Michael has become stronger, to the point that he couldn’t be taken down by brute force alone. This is further shown in Halloween Ends, where he’s weakened due to hiding out in the sewer system for four years, unable to return to his killing sprees, before being slowly rejuvenated after murdering a police officer.

Superhuman Strength

Despite mostly using stealth to get the jump on people, Michael has showcased many examples of strength beyond what any normal human can perform. Michael is able to crush a human skull with his bare hands and one stomp, casually walk through doors, and can flip over cars.

Supernatural Endurance/Durability

They don’t call him immortal for nothing! Michael is able to endure almost anything you can throw at him. He has survived being shot several times and sent off a balcony, beaten senseless by a mob of angry townsfolk (in which he later gets back up and casually Madaras them all), involved in countless vehicular accidents, shot by an onslaught of heavy weapons, engulfed in building explosions, and the list goes on and on.

Healing Factor

Myers is seemingly able to regenerate wounds, with his eyes being shot out in Halloween II and losing his eyesight but regaining function of them in later installments (including later movies in the H20 timeline, which includes Halloween II), as well as recovering after being shot several times with a revolver.

Stealth Mastery

Michael is the iconic stealth slasher, being incredibly proficient at it, with a reputation for being practically silent. He is able to practically teleport, even while in plain sight. One could turn around a corner where he was, and Myers would be nowhere to be seen, completely disappearing from sight. Many of his kills being a result of his victims not realizing he’s right next to them before it’s too late. He has snuck up on a teacher in broad daylight without a sound, and even hid in a police car without the cops knowing.

Teleportation

A fairly often and consistent occurrence for Michael is to seemingly disappear without any sign of movement from a spot he was just seen in without the victim breaking eye contact or even blinking, with the only explanation being that Myers appears to be teleporting from the scene to a completely different place.

Intelligence

(Do not question the GIF)

Despite his appearance, Michael is surprisingly intelligent and tactical. He’s able to easily sneak up on people and knows how to drive after breaking out of Smith’s Grove, despite being locked up for 15 years. He was able to disable an entire school's phone lines, switched places with a paramedic in order to get him killed while simultaneously framing Laurie, and disguised a man as himself and cut out his tongue so that he couldn't explain himself. Michael has also shown a precise knowledge of the human body, such as when he sliced a woman’s tendons to prevent her escape, or when he cut someone’s neck in a precise manner to silence them, before cutting his arteries carefully to ensure a painful exsanguination.

Dead by Daylight

Surprised? We told you this was a full composite, after all. To understand these parts of Michael’s abilities, the following three sections will require you to have plenty of knowledge about Dead by Daylight’s basic mechanics and terminology. Though if you’re not particularly keen on learning too much, we’ll leave links to the official wiki on necessary terms.

Evil Within

“Something, or rather someone, is here now. I've never seen this... Shape before. A man hiding behind a mask. He comes with a determination. But more worrying, he comes with an apparent grasp of the hunt. He does not strike me as someone who even went unwillingly to this place. Is there more to this being than I can fathom?”

In Dead By Deadlight, Michael’s primary power is named Evil Within. This power has two parts to it; his stalk meter and his tiers. Michael’s primary ability is to stalk Survivors; by building up his stalk meter, Michael can start to tier up, where physical capabilities start to increase, including his movement speed, lunge attack range, etc. He starts off at Tier I, where he is incredibly slow and immobile, although as a benefit, his Terror Radius is completely removed and he gains the Undetectable Status Effect, which gives him the perfect opportunity to stalk Survivors unnoticed. In Tier II, Michael will start to have more traditional stats in line with other Killers, including the addition of a Terror Radius of 16 meters. Once Michael hits Tier III, all Survivors will be inflicted with the Exposed Status Effect, which allows Michael to immediately knock someone onto the floor, even in the Healthy State. On top of this, his physical capabilities are boosted even further, including a longer lunge and vaulting speed, with his Terror Radius doubled. Tier III lasts 60 seconds and will immediately return to Tier II after its duration is over, after which Michael must build up his stalk meter again. Michael cannot regress back into Tier I.

Evil Within’s playstyle can be affected by various different add-ons, which will be shown a bit down below.

Michael’s Unique Perks

As a playable Killer character in Dead by Daylight, Michael comes with three unique perks and is able to learn other general perks, as well as other unique perks pertaining to different Killers. In-game, Killers can use up to four perks at a time.

Michael’s perks in particular revolve around the Obsession mechanic, which designates a random survivor as Michael’s “Obsession”. These perks grant Michael several bonuses to his abilities depending on how he interacts with the Obsession. On top of this, the term “Token” will also be thrown around, which is essentially just DbD-speak for a single charge of whatever ability it is about to give.

These perks can be shared with other Killers, but for convenience’s sake, their descriptions will be written in a Michael player’s perspective. Also worth mentioning is that all Perks can be leveled up, in which case we will write their statistical differences at the maximum level in purple. We’ll also be noting any general Perks that could potentially affect the fight in any way, shape, or form.

Michael’s Perks

Save the Best for Last

Every time Michael hits a Survivor that is not his Obsession, this perk gains a Token, up to 8.

For every token, Michael gains a 5% reduced cooldown on successful attacks.

Hitting the Obsession makes Michael lose 2 Tokens.

Play with Your Food

Every time Michael chases his Obsession and lets them escape, this perk gains a Token, up to 3.

Every Token increases Michael’s movement speed by 5%.

1 token is lost every time Michael attacks any Survivor.

Dying Light

Everytime Michael hooks someone that is not the Obsession, this perk gains one token, up to 11.

Every token slows down the Survivors’ repair speeds, healing speeds, and hook sabotaging speeds by 3%, as long as the Obsession is alive.

The Obsession is not affected and instead has a 33% increase to unhooking and healing speeds.

General Killer Perks

Sloppy Butcher

Wounds inflicted from Michael’s attack cause his victim to suffer from the Hemorrhage and Mangled Status Effects.

Bleeding frequency is increased by 100% and healing regression caused by Hemorrhage is increased by 25%.

Hemorrhage causes the victim to lose 7% of healing progress per second if they are not being healed.

Mangled slows down healing speed by 20%.

Iron Grasp

Tightens Michael's grip by 12%.

Unrelenting

Reduces cooldown of missed attacks by 30%.

Insidious

By standing still for 3 seconds, Michael gains the Undetectable Status Effect.

Undetectable prevents Survivors from seeing Killers though their senses by blocking their Aura from their vision.

Evil Within Add-Ons

Michael’s power, Evil Within, can be changed up significantly with his 20 Add-Ons. Every one of his add-ons, brought in by the Entity, is reminiscent of something from Michael’s past, which can either dramatically buff his base abilities or drastically change them.

There are multiple add-ons that Michael can equip (with a maximum of 2 at a time), but for the sake of this blog, we’ll only list the big game-changing ones.

Memorial Flower

J. Myers Memorial

The memorial add-ons increase the rate at which Michael progresses through Evil Within with stalking by 11/25%.

Scratched Mirror

Vanity Mirror

These mirrors do not allow Michael to progress past Tier I/Tier II, but permit him to see Survivors through solid walls within a range of 16/32 meters.

Tombstone Piece

Judith’s Tombstone

Both of these add-ons allow Michael to outright ignore the Entity’s order to put Survivors on the meat hooks and instead kill them where they stand when he hits Tier III, although both will increase the stalk meter needed to reach Tier III by 150/200%. In the case of Tombstone Piece, killing a Survivor makes Michael regress back into Tier II.

Fragrant Tuft of Hair

An add-on that grants Michael an unlimited duration to Tier III when Michael reaches it, but increases stalk needed by 200%.

Weaknesses

Jason

Though Jason does seem unstoppable, that is far from the truth. Even after he got revived at the start of Jason Lives, Jason can still die, even as a zombie. He also isn’t used to fighting supernatural foes, as shown in The New Blood and sometimes in Freddy vs. Jason. Jason even has a habit of mistaking people for his dead mom or even himself and, if he does, he leaves himself open to attack. He’s also easily goaded, as Tommy Jarvis showed in Jason Lives with playground insults. And as shown in Jason Takes Manhattan, toxic waste will revert Jason to a little boy… because reasons.

Also, according to Freddy vs. Jason, his near-drowning gave him a highly exploitable fear of water that leaves him incapable of moving. Just ignore every single time he’s ever walked out of a lake like it’s nothing, including later in the same damn movie lol.

Michael

Michael Myers may be one of the greatest killers out there, but he’s no Mike Myers. His biggest flaw is that, despite being an enduring monster, he’s still a human being (to an extent). Many of his impressive feats of durability also came at the heavy cost of suffering a comatose state which took years to recover from. In most of the movie's timelines, Michael ends up defeated by the hands of Laurie Strode. In one timeline though, he had his ass kicked by rapper Busta Rhymes making karate noises. This is not a joke.

Summary

Jason

"Ki, ki, ki, ma, ma, ma..."

Advantages:

Disadvantages:

  • Slightly slower and less agile

  • Less intelligent

  • Senses and Stalk are countered by certain perks and add-ons

  • Less likely to dodge compared to Michael

  • Not as stealthy as Michael

  • Despite the name, his series only has 12 movies (Halloween actually has 13)

  • The NES Game

  • This year had a Friday the 14th (big oof)

Michael

"I prayed that he would burn in hell, but in my heart, I knew that hell would not have him."

Advantages:

  • Smarter than Jason has shown to be

  • Slightly faster and more agile

  • More adept in stealth

  • Healing factor could still help regenerate minor injuries and perks could help counter regen…

  • Counters several of Jason’s abilities with perks, add-ons, and Evil Within…

  • Wider selection of abilities and attributes with perks and add-ons

  • Killed 8 people in the DAU and radiates “ominous sexual energy”

  • Has the power of Shrek and Austin Powers on his side

  • The episode’s dropping on Halloween itself

Disadvantages:

  • Weaker than Jason

  • Outclassed in weaponry

  • Never shown using long-range weapons, unlike Jason

  • …However, his own regeneration is still far inferior to Jason’s

  • …But cannot counter Jason’s more supernatural abilities

  • Has a worse track record against rappers than both Chucky and the little shit Leprechaun

  • Dull Machete recipient

  • Despite what you might think, he actually sucks in Dead by Daylight lol

Before We Get to the Verdict

Jason’s Curse

Now, let's talk more in-depth about something Jason has: his curse. We already explained the gist of how it works, though when it comes to an actual fight, it's not very useful. As shown in Jason Goes To Hell, it took a while for Jason to mess with someone's mind via the curse, given the time they would have to pick up the pieces of Jason and move it to the morgue, and just setting it up took a few hours or more. This tidbit also brings up another thing; we only saw Jason do this curse after he’s blown up into pieces. Not to say that the curse couldn’t work if Jason's body was fully intact, but nothing is proving it can. There are still limits to the curse, and to say it would affect the fight is weird because it would need Michael to just stand there for a few hours. So, safe to say, the curse won’t affect the fight that much, if at all.

Verdicts

You can run, but you can't hide…

So, which one of these iconic masked slashers has the weapons, armor, and skills to avoid Death in this Battle? Let’s find out and get to the numbers.

Stats

First of all, the stats for these two hack-and-slashers. Unsurprisingly, the vast majority of their AP feats are pretty much what you’d expect for a horror antagonist; slicing people up, impalement and crushing the limbs of their helpless victims, all that jazz. In this regard, one could argue that they’re somewhat comparable. But what can these two ruthless killers do at their peak? Well, for Michael, his best known feat is when he survived being in the epicenter of an explosion that blew up a church, yielding about 284 megajoules. Meanwhile, Jason survived a house exploding on him that came out to 0.534 tons of TNT. This places Jason way above Michael in both AP and durability, giving him the advantage in that field.

Now for speed. Both are known for how much they slowly chase their victims and don’t really have that many showings of high speed, but there are some instances showing otherwise. Jason scales to Über Jason due to defeating Jason X ll, who is a superior version of Über Jason. Über Jason blitzed highly-trained soldiers, which would place him around 60.96 m/s. However, Michael scales to Cory Cunningham, who was able to avoid a marksman rifle’s penetrating bullet, giving him some solid bullet timing at 104.97 m/s. So Michael actually has a slight speed edge.

So overall, while Michael takes speed, the difference in AP and durability is much larger and more meaningful than the gap in speed. This makes it so that stats more reliably help Jason in this case, and getting into the higher end feats of Über Jason would widen that gap even further.

Equipment

No good slasher villain comes complete without weapons to murder horny teens and civilians with, but when comparing their tools of the trade, Jason takes it like Manhattan. Starting with their main murder weapons, Jason’s machete should be more effective than Michael’s kitchen knife. Not only is it a longer blade, allowing him to get easier and deeper hits than Michael can with his knife, but it also lets Jason cause much more severe injuries via potential decapitation.

As for other assorted weapons, Jason should also handily take this. While both have used a number of miscellaneous items to kill many an unsuspecting victim besides their trademark blades, Jason’s got more variety in his usual murder toolkit with stuff like a pitchfork, a pickaxe, and a spear. He’s also usually seen improvising kills with stuff that’s around him many times throughout the Friday films, whether it be a corkscrew, a fence post, a glass bottle, a party horn, a lady’s guitar, a tub of liquid nitrogen, a shopping cart, a clipboard, or just using his bare hands and strength.

Michael does occasionally use stuff lying around him to end lives, such as a hospital hot tub, a mowing scythe, and an ice skate, but more often than not, he usually sticks to knife kills and choking people to death. Plus, with weapons like the speargun and bow and arrows, Jason has a range advantage over Michael, not to mention that Jason’s more likely to throw his iconic machete at Michael with deadly accuracy, whereas Michael hasn’t really shown to throw any weapons he has on him at people to kill them.

Even Michael’s axe from Call of Duty: Ghosts, which very vaguely has minor soul manipulation, wouldn’t matter much, as Jason has shown to be able to move his soul around in Jason Goes to Hell, as well as the fact that Michael needs to actually kill Jason for the effect to come into fruition, which is very unlikely.

In the end, Jason’s not-so-dull machete, more varied murder weapons, ranged weaponry, and his knack for improvising his surroundings to kill his victims gives him the edge over Michael’s kitchen knife and more limited methods of killing.

Abilities

It’s time to talk about their abilities now, shall we? We’ll start with both of their normal abilities, which Jason outclasses him in, really. Sure, Michael is a master of being stealthy, but that is not really useful when Jason’s super hearing and senses come into play, which can allow Jason to detect where Michael is. Also, Jason has Shift, which allows him to outpace Michael in speed.

Though these advantages do change when we take Michael's Dead by Daylight perks into consideration. With these perks in hand, Michael has a lot more ways to keep up with Jason’s powers, most notably the perk Insidious. In the game, the survivors have perks that can allow them to see Killers’ auras, a.k.a. letting them see Killers through walls. But with Insidious, the Killers counter that ability. Why is this important? Well, it’s because that’s what Jason’s senses do. So with Insidious, Michael can counter one of Jason’s main ways of seeing him, though it does not stop Jason from hearing his footsteps with his super hearing. But what about Jason’s Stalk ability? Well again, with Dead by Daylight, Michael has add-ons, and the most notable ones are the Scratch and Vanity Mirrors, both of which let the Shape see Survivors’ auras. Which means that, while Jason cannot spot Michael with his senses, Michael can with his perks.

Lastly, let's talk about both of their healing factors. With his healing factor, Michael has healed from stab wounds, gunshots, and (most notably) having his eyes shot out in Halloween ll. Though compared to Jason’s healing factor, it's nothing to write home about; Jason has also healed from gunshots and stab wounds, but he has also returned from getting half his body blown up.

It's also worth noting how fast both healing factors are. With Michael’s, it has taken him a while to heal wounds like his eyes getting shot out and, in the start of Halloween 5, it's shown Michael needed a year to fully heal from loads of gunshots and falling into a river. Meanwhile, Jason has taken gunshots, fallen off a cliff, and (again) had half his body blown up, but went back to killing again the next second due to his wounds healing almost lickety-split. Though, it is fair to say that Michael’s Empowerment from the 2018 Timeline might speed up the process of the Boogeyman’s healing factor, given he was beaten, shot, and stabbed and got back up to get revenge on a horde of people moments later.

Though again with Dead By Daylight perks Michael can keep up with this, most notably the perk Sloppy Butcher, which slows down healing for a limited time. That means that when Michael gets a hit on Jason he can slow down his healing, though keep in mind it's for a limited time. Normally the perks effect wears off in a minute, which when your main weapon is a kitchen knife and Jason already tanks stab wounds it's not likely that Michael would do any good damage and like we said Jason’s healing is pretty fast, meaning that when the effect wears off Jason can heal any lasting wounds.

Overall, Jason's main abilities beats Michael’s normal abilities, but Michael’s perks counter Jason’s main ways of finding people. Also, Michael can counter Jason using Stalk with his add-ons, meaning the Crystal Lake Killer can’t get the jump on him, though the Shape can’t do so on Jason either thanks to the latter’s super hearing. When it comes to healing factors, Jason has Michael beat, showing he can survive way more stuff like blowing up and healing instantly, while Michael takes time to heal normal wounds like gunshots. Though again, perks like Sloppy Butcher can counter Jason's healing factor for a time. So while this section is close, Jason manages to take it due to his super hearing allowing him to find Michael through the sounds of his footsteps, and his Healing Factor being fast to heal any wounds when the effect wears off. Which barely edges out in the Crystal Lake Killer’s favor.

Intelligence and Experience

Over the many years of stalking Crystal Lake (and Manhattan… and space… and a bunch of other places, really), Jason has racked up quite a well of experience alongside his kill count. And in over 40 years of haunting Haddonfield, Michael has shown a similar skill, making them about even when it comes to how they kill their victims.

Despite, y'know, being a dude who grew up alone in the woods and eventually turned into a zombie (or perhaps because of that), Jason has become rather proficient at survival, being able to set up traps and hunt his prey with remarkable skill. He's also smart enough to know to disable escape methods like cars and, in the reboot, can build tunnel systems. Despite those skills though, he's usually a brute, relying on strength and intimidation rather than actual plans. Michael, on the other hand, had a slightly more civilized upbringing in Smith’s Groves Sanitarium under the watch of Dr. Loomis, along with a more normal childhood pre-murder. In fact, one of the biggest aspects of Michael's terror is how he seems aware of what he's doing; he isn't a mindless zombie like Jason. He often stalks and terrorizes his prey with Intent.

But as we said, Jason grew up alone in the woods in comparison. Time and again, he's shown to still have the mind of a child. He's been easily tricked by smarter foes like Tommy Jarvis and Freddy Krueger. Meanwhile, Michael often matches Laurie Strode, even if his endless bloodlust for her does get the better of him more often than not. While Jason prefers a simpler brute force approach, Michael has shown quite a few times that the man behind the William Shatner mask is an intelligent killer. He learned how to drive by watching Dr. Loomis take him to trials, and he was smart enough to silence and switch places with a paramedic to escape and frame Laurie.

Jason does remember his past and has shown more than once to be sentient enough to recognize those who are like himself (such as Leatherface and a young deformed boy who was bullied at Camp Crystal Lake). However, he tends to operate on instinct or the ghostly command of his mother more often than not, while Michael works out of an unknown, but independent, desire for bloodshed. Even when outside forces like the Cult of Thorn try to control him, he usually murders them before long. Even if he did get beaten by Busta Rhymes, which… how?

In conclusion, While both of them have shown themselves to be smarter than they seem, Michael's greater intelligence and more common showings compared to Jason's often simpler tactics and childlike mind gives Michael the Golden Chainsaw here.

Conclusion

Both of these iconic slasher villains may seem even at first glance, with their experience and brutal tactics. However, looking closer, Jason utterly destroys most categories, allowing him to win more often than Michael could. Let’s start the final chapter and review quickly.

Starting off with stats, Jason has proven to be the brawnier of the two slashers. His fights with Über Jason and Freddy Krueger prove that he can match beings of incredible power and durability. Besides lifting a car, getting gunned down, and being burned alive, Myers has never shown comparable levels of endurance, even when just looking at Jason's direct feats in the movies and ignoring higher scaling. Thankfully, Michael does have the speed advantage thanks to that bullet-dodging feat from scaling to Corey, and is the more agile of the two. However, despite the Crystal Lake Killer having trouble against people with more agility (as shown in his fight with Krueger), it’s not enough to take down Jason.

Intelligence and experience, on the other hand, is ironically in Michael’s favor. Jason may have much more experience thanks to his survival skills, but Michael has the edge over him in some key areas. The Haddonfield Boogeyman is the smarter of the two slashers, as shown by his grand escapes from imprisonment and his terrorizing creativity. On the other hand, Jason usually gets taken down by his would-be victims outsmarting him and using his biggest weaknesses against him: water disguising themselves as his dead mother. And in the H20 timeline, Michael was stalking for twenty years without getting caught to make up for his survival skills and experience. While Jason’s got experience, Michael is much smarter and could come with a plan to take Jason down.

The biggest hurdles that will decide the winner for this fight came down to these two questions: Who has the better arsenal? And who has the superior abilities? And of course, Jason takes both. Let’s go over the obvious first with weaponry: Jason has used a ton of weapons for murder over the course of his killing sprees. His iconic machete, axes, spears, pitchfork, pickaxe, bear traps, throwing knives, bow and arrows, and speargun overshadow the tools Michael has used in his movies. Even if it was just a regular one-on-one knife fight, Jason has what we would call a real knife, as his machete is a more effective murder tool comapred to Michael’s kitchen knife.

Now onto their abilities; which are pretty close, both have similar abilities with the obvious super strength, endurance, stealth, teleportation, and (most importantly) regeneration. Nevertheless, Jason seals the deal with his supernatural abilities. Despite Michael being sneakier, Jason counters it with his hearing. That’s a big problem for Michael already, though Michael can come back swinging with his perks. Michael’s DbD perks help out amazingly in increasing his speed and movements, which is exactly what Jason’s Shift does. But more importantly, the Shape with the DbD perks can counter Jason’s senses, and the add-ons let Michael find Crystal Lake Killer, meaning both can’t get the jump on each other. Though with DbD perks, while Myers can slow down Jason’s healing factor or outright stop it, that only lasts for a single minute and the Fragrant Tuft of Hair add-on might take too long. It wouldn’t matter in the long run.

This also brings us to another thing with the killers’ healing factors; the comics and novels seal the deal with how Jason's faster healing factor surpasses Michael's, who has a vastly slower one in comparison. Even with stuff like his Empowerment and Sloppy Butcher perks, which allow Michael to counter/slow down Jason’s regeneration for some time, when the perk wears off Jason can heal any wounds Michael gave him during its effect. All in all, Jason's weapons overwhelm Michael’s simpler and more close range weapons. Though Michael's perks counter most of Jason’s abilities, he doesn’t have counters for Jason’s super hearing, and the perks only last for a bit. Once the effect wears off, Jason can heal.

To summarize, Jason and Michael are two of the most iconic horror villains out there because of their undying rage and unrelenting determination. But in a fight to the death, the Crystal Lake Killer is the more unstoppable force that can overpower the immovable object that is the Shape. Jason has more ways of winning than Michael does because of the big gaps in how they get the job done. Despite being a more intelligent and agile killer, Michael has so few options of killing Jason due to the lack of skills and weapons he has, and he doesn’t have counters to Jason’s supernatural prowess. Michael does have a chance of winning, but Jason's brutality makes him a monstrous tank with no time to find a fatal blow. Meanwhile, Jason has the powers to take down the Haddonfield Boogeyman H20 ways to the final friday.

As much as we love Michael Myers, evil has to die some night. They've both cursed their homes, but Voorhees’ murderous endurance, hack-slashing weapons, and supernatural abilities, you could say the results were crystal clear, as Jason is just Myers ahead of the Shape.

Before We Go…

As you might have noticed, this blog came out WAY earlier than usual. Lot of passionate and knowledgeable people on this one, coupled with the characters being simple (Halloween timeline aside) and not having too much to go through. We at the G1DBFB would like to extend our appreciation and thanks to everyone who contributed, and did such an amazing job in such a short amount of time.

Additionally, due to the earlier completion, we will be working on an additional bonus blog which will be posted on Halloween! It will be:

(Count Dracula VS Frankenstein’s Monster VS The Wolf Man VS The Mummy)

Universal Monsters Battle Royale!

Prepare for terror and fright on Halloween night, cuz we’re going back to the classics for this one. Be sure to check it out, it’s gonna be spooky.

  1. A great blog, but some things to note
    1) You could probably get a higher value for either building explosion using blast radius rather than destruction [or probably lower lmao]
    2) In the audio books Michael frequently survives various building explosions
    3) You *might* need to subtract the junkyard attendant from Corey's bullet timing, as it appears the copycat dodges after the bullet hits
    4) Michael survived the garage from Halloween 8 burning down [probably not impressive, but why not mention it]

  3. Michael can also be scaled from Blight, a character from Dead By Daylight who can rip people's spines out. Plus, it should be noted that Michael can call on Entity to help, and she is very strong, well, she can also give him new abilities for battle and, in general, an excellent assistant.
It would be possible to use Michael Cenobite, which should have been in the crossover (Pinhead vs. Michael). There, Michael went to hell and killed dozens of Cenobites, and then beat Pinhead (who was able to kill the Angel, after which he was punished by God).
With what feats, Michael will look noticeably stronger.

    1. Nah, the Entity isn't that reliable. We've never seen it outright hand out new abilities for its proxies to use for one-v-one fights, so that seems like a cop-out. There's also the fact that it would be more in character for the Entity to make Jason one of its Killers if it senses him and therefore also give him abilities, which leaves the entire idea moot and pointless.

As for Michael Cenobite, that also wouldn't work. For one thing, Michael scaling to Pinhead is an obvious outlier, as the characters of Hellraiser reach planetary levels of power which is clearly above anything that the main other versions of Michael are capable of (even the Thorn timeline version).

    2. Well I mean
Zombie Jason scaling to Uber Jason is an obvious outlier, as Uber Jason reaches City busting levels of durability which is clearly above anything the main other version of Jason are capable of (Even Jason vs Freddy: Jason)

    3. So in the crossover it was revealed that Michael is also a Cenobite, this would have been told in the film and his potential would have been revealed. That is, Jason was also strengthened by the Necronomicon to fight Freddy, here Michael would also be strengthened by Lament Configuration and fight a bunch of Cenobite with Pinhead.

    4. ^^ So? Even without scaling to Uber Jason, Jason would still win with his higher levels of durability, regen and overall strength. Michael's normal iterations may be quicker and smarter, but that does nothing to offset Jason's numerous physical advantages (especially considering that Jason could canonically keep up with Dream World! Freddy proves). If you say we should remove scaling to Uber Jason in exchange for removing scaling to Hellraiser characters, that doesn't change the verdict -_-.

    5. "this would have been told in the film and his potential would have been revealed" Nope, because it is never shown or said in any of the films that Michael is a Cenobite who scales to Hellraiser's planet-level characters. Michael is consistently only around Building-level at the highest, nowhere close to Hellraiser's Lucifer or the ancient deity who are City-level to Continent-level.

    6. Just for me, using and equating the original Jason and Jason from the crossover is not fair. These are 2 completely different versions of the same character with different abilities and power levels.
Michael is stronger than the living Jason, equal, superior in some ways to the zombie Jason, but objectively weaker than the crossover Jason. So it would be fair in my eyes if Cenobite Michael is mentioned as well. After all, the official directors and screenwriters of both universes worked on the Michael vs Pinhead script and were already making scripts on them, as well as their outlines. The only catch is that the project was closed due to the prohibition of the copyright holder of Halloween.

    7. "These are 2 completely different versions of the same character with different abilities and power levels."
Nope, not true, Jason from his films and the Jason from Freddy Vs. Jason are the same Jason. They have the same motivations and the same powers (undead regen, super strength, raw toughness, etc). You act like Jason is far stronger in the crossover than he normally is, but that is wrong. Even the blog here goes out of its way to mention that Freddy Vs. Jason is indeed canon (the ending of "Jason Goes to Hell" literally proves that it is canon), so deal with it.

If you really want to talk about unfairness, then we can go ahead and use Mortal Kombat Jason who scales to Scorpion outpacing an explosion and scales to Sub-Zero smashing through solid titanium and diamond :).

Again, the Michael vs Pinhead thing is not canon. It doesn't matter if they were making it, the point is that it never happened and therefore cannot be used. By that logic, it should be okay to give Dead by Daylight abilities to Jason because the devs have themselves said that they plan to wait for a legal opening to add Jason to the game. It doesn't matter if it's fair to your eyes, we don't care about your eyes, we only care about objective fairness. And objective fairness states that it is nonsense to include a cancelled project as part of canon, as well as the fact that it heavily contradicts the limits and capabilities of the main versions of Michael.
