“Death is not the greatest loss in life. The greatest loss is what dies inside us while we live.”
- Norman Cousins
As one of the greatest mysteries on Earth, death is many things depending on who you ask: the end of one’s existence, a way to pass on to an afterlife befitting the way a person lived in this mortal plane, a void of nothingness, or even a way to move into a different life than the one lived previously. Nobody can know for certain, save at least for the lucky few who have managed to defy death itself by coming back from the grave, and these two men are proof of it. Once the young sidekicks to legendary heroes whose reputations were built not by amazing superpowers but by their will to battle injustice, our next combatants have followed those legacies by delving down into darker paths that saw them cross lines their mentors would have dared not journey.
Winter Soldier, the unyielding Silver Patriot and ex-wartime comrade of Marvel’s First Avenger. Red Hood, the vengeful Gotham Outlaw and protege-turned-rival to DC’s Dark Knight. Long thought to have stayed dead by comic book historians, Bucky Barnes and Jason Todd’s resurrections saw them transform into two of the most ruthless assassins to ever exist, armed and trained to reach peak efficiency as unstoppable killing machines. They have saved many lives in their battles against evildoers everywhere, and have taken much more to enforce their justice. Death Battle is about to put their skills and arsenals to the test as they have their next targets lined up for the kill in each other; who will have the guts to cheat death one more time?
Background
Winter Soldier
“I've learned to live with my guilt. That's what pushes me to be better.”
In the years during and following the Cold War, the intelligence community began hearing murmurs of a mysterious assassin who participated in many risky operations around the globe. Official sightings and documentation to prove his existence were few and far in between, but those that did catch him revealed a masked man within his apparent 20s to 30s clad in black and a silver bionic arm adorned with a red star. Further information on him soon pieced together who he was: a wet work operative who served the Soviet Union under the codename of the “Winter Soldier”, although his real identity was that of a man far removed from the cold landscape of Russia: former US Army special operative James Buchanan “Bucky” Barnes.
Born in 1920’s Indiana, Bucky joined the Army at the onset of World War II in pursuit of the same career path his late father once took. It was during his training that he met and befriended fellow New Yorker Steve Rogers, whose secret identity as the costumed super soldier Captain America was one Bucky had accidentally discovered after a routine drill session. Sworn to secrecy, Bucky soon became the Captain’s sidekick, and the two participated in many missions to push the Allied assault in Europe. An operation in Germany going awry apparently led to the young man’s death, but unbeknownst to the rest of the world, Bucky was found near death by Soviets after the war ended, and brought to their secret Department X to be experimented upon.
After loads of physical conditioning in addition to brainwashing, elite-level training and repeated cryogenic-induced sleep to keep him in his physical prime despite his own age, the Winter Soldier continued to serve his superiors even long after the fall of the Soviet Union. For decades, his assassinations shaped history from the shadows, until a fateful reunion with his old mentor put an end to his programming. Having survived the accident that supposedly killed him and now working towards fighting for justice in a new age, Captain America successfully brought back Bucky’s old memories after months of pursuing him, filling the once stone-faced assassin with years upon years of regret over actions he could not consciously control.
Seeking a way to make amends, the Winter Soldier turned to a life of espionage, now utilizing the techniques taught to him in order to keep the world in check through whatever means he could. He gained membership with both the Avengers and S.H.I.E.L.D., participated in battles with all sorts of supernatural and technologically-advanced foes that seemed like fiction to him in the distant past, and even assumed the mantle of Captain America for a spell after Steve’s apparent death. While maintaining the killer instinct of his old identity, his time as one of Earth’s mightiest heroes with nothing but his raw skill and desire to uphold justice by any means has made Bucky the type of hero his younger self dreamed of becoming all those years ago.
Red Hood
“Can't fight crime without cracking a few skulls.”
Throughout his many years of fighting crime in Gotham City and beyond, Batman has amassed a large gallery of rogues who have dedicated their lives not just to wreaking havoc wherever they pleased, but to breaking the man behind the cowl in retaliation for his interference in their plans. Such was the case with the Red Hood, a mysterious vigilante that emerged on the streets one day, seemingly copying the Caped Crusader’s own methods in fighting crime, but in a much more lethal manner that defied his own aversion to killing. Underneath the mask was a man who had once given his all to aid Batman in the past, and returned as an agent of vengeance who wanted nothing more than to make him suffer: Jason Peter Todd, the second Robin.
Once an orphan who resorted to doing anything he could to survive on the streets, Jason was recruited by Batman after helping him fend off an ambush by a group of thugs, and succeeded Dick Grayson as the next Boy Wonder following several months of training. Despite showing much potential, the new Robin proved to be too unruly, often relying too much on violence along with a defiant streak that saw him clash with his mentor multiple times. This headstrong attitude proved to be his downfall, as Jason’s impulsiveness saw him get captured by the Joker, who proceeded to beat him to near death with a crowbar and finish the deed with a grisly explosion, all of which succeeded in traumatizing Batman for getting a child killed in his line of duty.
Unbeknownst to him or anyone else for that matter, Jason soon found himself on a new lease on life; Superboy Prime creating ripples that changed the very fabric of their universe resulted in Jason’s resurrection, at which point, he found himself undergoing training from Talia al Ghul to become one of the deadliest assassins in history. With her Lazarus Pit restoring him to his physical prime and subsequently reducing the last of his sanity to shreds, Jason returned to Gotham under the guise of the Red Hood, not just to take his revenge against Batman for failing him, but to wage his own war on crime and prove that he could not only take on his former mentor’s role as the city’s defender, but can do it far better than he ever could.
His path was one that had noble intentions tainted by his vendetta, as Red Hood gleefully took on anyone who dared stood in his way, whether they may be petty criminals, influential crime bosses, law enforcement officials, and other heroes; Jason’s own twisted ideology even saw him trade blows not just against Batman, but the many other allies he made through the Dark Knight’s long career. Even so, Red Hood has proven himself time and time again to be an unexpected ally in the Batfamily’s own mission to protect Gotham’s citizens. Despite opposing philosophies in how to fight crime, they see that his willingness to cross lines they never would make him capable of fighting the battles only his unwavering ruthlessness can properly answer.
Equipment
Winter Soldier
Bionic Arm
The explosion had claimed his entire left arm, so the Soviet Union gave him a mechanical arm, but this was not your typical prosthetic arm. Over the years the arm has had several updates and improvements, resulting in the arm having various functions, including:
Superhuman Strength - The bionic arm gives Bucky greatly enhanced strength, capable of punching through metal with ease.
Stabilization Sensors - Bucky can detect the equilibrium of objects through his bionic arm and therefore launch them with pinpoint precision, even causing them to bounce correctly back to him.
Automatic Reload - The arm can also reload weapons automatically with an ammunition mechanism in it.
Palm Sensors - The weapons that Barnes use have palm print sensors, which means if someone else attempts to use the scanned weapons, the weapons will self-destruct.
Sensory Array - The arm has different sensors that allow him to see his surroundings and identify targets. The arm can project holograms to make them look and feel like a normal human arm, as well as pass through security like metal detectors without activating them. It can also protect other metal objects from detection.
Electrical Discharge - Bucky can discharge bolts of electrical energy from his arm's palm.
Electromagnetic Pulse - Bucky can discharge an EMP, rendering electronic devices useless.
Extended Reach - Apparently, Bucky can control his bionic arm even when it's removed from his body, capable of punching multiple people on his own.
Flamethrower - He can emit a stream of flame from his palm.
Retractable Blade - The arm has a retractable blade perfectly suited for close combat
Knives
In close range combat, Bucky tends to favour knives at close range. In terms of knives he has used:
Gerber Mark II Combat knife: This knife is Bucky’s favourite and the one he most commonly used in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. He is extremely skilled at using it, shown when he matched Captain America in combat.
Gerber Yari ll Tanto: These knives take inspiration from the classic Japanese knife, the tanto.
Benchmade SOCP Dagger: He carried it in a holster next to his Gerber Mark ll, though he was never seen using it.
Bayonet Knife: This knife is often used with a rifle. He used it to kill an Outrider who tackled him to the ground.
Firearms
Bucky’s wielded a variety of deadly firearms over the years. Also should be noted that while the comics don’t really go into detail on what type of guns that WS has used, the MCU does.
Modified Luger Pistol: During his time as Captain America, Bucky used a modified Luger Pistol with shots capable of harming herald level beings such as the Red Hulk and Ares. It is also capable of hurting beings made out of photon energy.
SIG-Sauer P220ST: The Winter Soldier's weapon of choice, a semi-automatic pistol that was designed in 1975.
Beretta 92FS Inox: These are semi-automatic pistols designed and manufactured by Beretta of Italy.
SIG-Sauer P226R/Glock 19: Winter Soldier dual wielded these in Captain America: Winter Soldier.
COP .357 Derringer: This gun is designed for concealment due to it’s small size. It lacks the firepower of some pistols but still can be an effective weapon
Intratec TEC-38: This small gun is carried in Winter Soldier's holster.
Vz.61 Skorpion: A submachine gun carried on the back of his vest. Due to being a submachine gun, Bucky can fire this gun rapidly.
Colt M4A1 with a M203 Grenade Launcher: A fully automatic carbine and the standard weapon used by S.H.I.E.L.D. Strike Team members. The Cold M4A1 comes with a M203 Grenade Launcher attachment which allows him to fire explosive grenades at his opponent.
Barrett M82A1M: This is Winter Soldier's main sniper rifle. With this rifle, Bucky can very easily take a life in the blink of an eye.
Kazurr Sniper Rifle: This sniper rifle was used by Bucky when he was the Man on the Wall. It’s an extremely long range sniper rifle, capable of sniping a target from a moon away. It also has vibranium rounds.
M249 SAW Paratrooper: This machine gun is a combination of high-speed firing rate, accuracy, and convenient portability, making it an extremely effective weapon for soldiers. It is commonly used in the United States Armed Forces.
Missile Launcher: This missile launcher has impressive power, being able to take out the Crimson Dynamo, who can tangle with Iron Man.
Grenades
FN Mk 13: A grenade launcher customized to fire disc grenades. These disc grenades can stick to surfaces and then explode.
Milkor MGL: A six-shot revolver-type grenade launcher.
M67 Grenade: These portable grenades can be thrown at enemies.
Ball Grenade: The Winter Soldier rolled a heavily-customized variant of the "Ручная Граната Наступательная (Ruchnaya Granata Nastupatel'naya)," a Soviet hand grenade. He mostly uses these in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Smoke Grenades: Bucky can throw smoke grenades in order to blind his opponents.
Explosive Charges: Bucky has explosive charges that can be set onto any object/surface. It was powerful enough to destroy Moon Knight’s space ship (yes really).
Other Equipment
Grappling Hook - Bucky has a grappling hook that allows him to scale buildings as well as swing down from huge cliffs.
Domino Mask - Bucky’s mask provides protection from bullets, and has advanced technology inside it capable of scanning the layout of entire buildings to find people inside.
Wall-Scaling Gear - Bucky has gear which allows him to easily scale walls/buildings to reach up to high areas.
Listening Gear - Bucky can listen into other people’s conversations even if they are not in the same room as him.
Holograms - Bucky has equipment that can create holograms of himself or other people as shown when he used a hologram of Wolverine to fool his opponents.
Red Hood
Helmet
Based on the old criminal identity used by the Joker before he became the Joker, Jason donned a red helmet based on the old identity. However, it uses more of a biker aesthetic, which he uses for protection and to hide his identity. Underneath the helmet, Jason also wears a domino mask that contains a radio transmitter and receiver as well as night vision.
In addition, Jason also added some gadgets to the helmet. For underwater travel, the helmet contains a breathalyzer that allows him to breathe safely. Just like the domino mask, Jason’s helmet also possesses night vision to see in the dark. And if necessary, the helmet can also serve as an explosive for Jason to use against his enemies.
Batarangs
One of the most well-known weapons owned by the Dark Knight are the small shurikens that are his trusty Batarangs, but Bruce isn’t the only one who uses them. Jason, like many members in the Bat Family, equips some batarangs of his own and uses them to disarm his opponents or as thrown projectiles.
Firearms
But one thing that sets Jason apart from nearly everyone in the Bat Family is his love of using firearms to fight crime.
IWI Jericho 941s - Jason owns a pair of double-action/single-action semi-automatic pistols customized to be fitted with extra picatinny rails and mini red-dot sights.
M1911 Pistols - Jason also owns a pair of modified .45 M1911 pistols that he dual wields.
Machine Guns - Jason also owns a variety of machine guns in his arsenal that he uses against enemies.
Shotguns - Jason comes in packing extra firepower with shotguns, if the situation ever calls for it.
Rocket Launchers - If he needs to bring out the big guns (no pun intended), Jason will opt to use a rocket launcher to blast his foes into smithereens.
Arm Blades
Made by the Japanese military, these specialised arm blades are effective at close range combat as shown during Jason’s fight against Cassandra Cain aka Orphan.
Taser
Jason Todd hides a taser underneath his sleeve which he can use to quickly electrify a combatant or cause massive damage depending on who the opponent is (as shown with the above image).
Bat Taser
At some point in his career as the Red Hood, Jason modified his body suit to have a built-in taser that he uses to get people off of him when necessary. The taser is activated through the red bat symbol on his chest, and it’s powerful enough to stun an Amazon.
Swords
Jason has also been trained in swordsmanship by the League of Assassins after his resurrection. He’s consistently shown to be a deadly fighter when wielding a blade in his hands.
Electric Gliding Wings
Grenades/Explosives
If he needs to blow something up, Jason is packed with grenades and other kinds of explosives.
All-Blades
A pair of mystical blades made out of copper designed to kill magic-based threats, such as the Untitled or Amazons. The blades are powered by the soul of the wielder and can be powered by spilling the wielder's own blood. Normally, the swords can only be summoned in the presence of absolute evil. However, after Jason had truly mastered the All-Caste's teachings, he gained access to the real All-Blades and is capable of summoning them to his hands by will.
Supposedly, the All-Blades can’t harm anything that isn’t magical. However, this is shown to be inconsistent as Jason was able to use the swords to harm robots and non-magical aliens. Therefore, it’s possible that the All-Blades aren’t restricted to just magical beings and are just more effective against them.
Other Equipment
Grappling Gun - A member of the Bat Family wouldn’t be complete without the good ol fashioned grappling gun. It does exactly what you think.
Lasers - A wrist-mounted laser that Jason utilizes to break into buildings and vaults.
Bolas - A notable weapon used by the Bat Family. A bola is a thrown projectile used to tie up running targets.
Knives - Jason carries an assortment of knives to use in battle.
Crowbar - Ironically, Jason uses the same type of weapon that was used to kill him by the Joker. He prefers to use it to give his victims a beating…yes, he has some problems.
Kris Dagger - While Jason used plenty of blades, the Kris Dagger is his most preferred weapon of choice for hand-to-hand combat.
Abilities
Winter Soldier
Infinity Formula
This might seem like another attempt to recreate the Super Soldier Serum, but the Infinity Formula is in fact an alchemical serum produced by the Brotherhood of the Shield in 1652, made from the Elixir of Life and it was developed by Sir Isaac Newton. Yes...I know.
Although the serum retains the life-prolonging properties of its original elixir, it doesn't make the person immortal, it just keeps people from aging. It also has various other effects on his body:
Enhanced Physicality: Due to the Infinity Formula, Barnes' body was enhanced to the peak of human potential of strength, agility, stamina, speed and durability. He is able to bench lift up to 800 lbs. (363 kg) as well as run at speeds of 32-36 mph (both of these were stated in the Marvel Official Handbook). He can also tank attacks from the likes of Spider-Man who is definitely 100% superhuman in his strength, speed and durability.
Enhanced Reflexes/Agility: The Infinity Formula also has enhanced his agility and reflexes to peak human levels. He is able to leap from one building to another with ease and with the air of a car leaps up a couple stories. He can also very easily dodge bullets point blank or at a distance.
Regenerative Healing: Due to the Infinity Formula, Bucky can heal much faster than the normal person being able to repair broken bones and gunshot wounds within a couple of days though his regeneration still has limits as shown with the one-sided stomp against Worthy Sin where he had most of his chest destroyed and needed the Infinity Formula from Nick Fury in order to stay alive.
Resistance to Mind Control
After the untimely apparent death of Captain America, Barnes was offered to take up the mantle of his best friend. At this point, Bucky had still been susceptible, in theory, to similar brainwashing that had controlled him in the past. Thanks to some intervention from Tony Stark, however, this is no longer the case.
Assassin Training
Bucky is one of the deadliest assassins in the Marvel Universe - on par with the likes of Elektra and Bullseye. He is a master of stealth and tracking to the point that he can even sneak up on Wolverine through using oil to block his senses as well as apply oil to the environment. He is also an expert in espionage training due to thanks largely to World War Two hand-to-hand combat luminaries William Essart Fairbairn, Colonel Rex Applegate and Steve Rogers to the point that he can easily sneak into a building without being caught and can eliminate a target within a few seconds without getting caught. With a special Kataran Rifle, he can even snipe a target from several moons away despite the frankly absurd skill and timing it would take.
Fighting Style
In terms of combat, Bucky very much integrated his American military training and his KGB Russian Training into his own fighting style. While fighting an opponent, he will often find a method of taking them down as quickly as possible through the use of throws and grapples which is very easy to achieve due to his enhanced speed and strength. In terms of what martial arts Bucky uses:
Defendu - Defendu is a modern martial art style that was developed before World War 2. Developed by William E. Fairbairn and Eric A. Sykes in the United Kingdom, this Scottish martial art was later taught to Colonel Rex Applegate (who was in the U.S Army). Both Willaim E. Fairbairn and Colonel Rex Applegate would later teach Defendu to Bucky (they also trained Captain America). In terms of Defendu, it focuses on ending fights as quickly as possible through attacking vital areas. Defendu is also one of the most offense based martial arts, always striking and always trying to take down opponents as quickly as possible, as such Denfendu uses no block or parry based maneuvers
Judo - Judo was created by Jigoro Kano in 1982. Its most prominent feature is its competitive element, where the objective is to either throw or takedown an opponent to the ground. The user then forces the opponent to submit with a joint lock or a choke. Both the Russian and American militaries would incorporate parts of Judo into their own fighting styles.
Sambo - Developed by Vasili Oshchepkov and Viktor Spiridonov, Sambo was designed to mix in traditional Russian martial arts and foreign martial arts like Judo and Jujitsu. Sambo is specifically designed to stop an armed or unarmed foe quickly. In combat, most Russian soldiers would use Sambo as a means of taking a weapon away from an opponent and then taking them to the ground with a Judo-like throw before finishing them off. Bucky was also taught these techniques during his time as the Winter Soldier.
Systema - Systema was specifically developed by the Russian military. Systema is rooted in military based tactics and techniques with knife fighting and firearms training being one of the core areas of Systema. Systema focuses on disabling the opponent, waiting for an opening and then taking it in order to finish an opponent off in a few fluid movies - in that regard, Systema takes inspiration from traditional Sambo and Judo.
Armeyskiy Rukopashniy Boy (ARB): ARB was developed by the Russian Military in the 1970s and focuses on striking and grappling techniques with an emphasis on stand-up fighting and use of throws to take an opponent down quickly. Those who are an expert at ARB will use their opponent’s weight against them and throw them to the ground for a quick knockout (like Judo and traditional wrestling).
Filipino Martial Arts - Knife Fighting: Bucky is very clearly trained in knife fighting/knife based martial arts. While it is not explicitly stated what martial art he is using when using his knife - it is like he is using Flipino Martial Arts which has a section based around weapons with knives being a key part along with Escrima Sticks It is likely Bucky received this martial art training in WW2 or at least an extremely altered version of it as. Flipino Martial Arts has been used by the US American Military as well as the Russian Spetsnaz.
Red Hood
Acrobatics
Acrobatics is the performance of extraordinary human feats involving movements that are a combination of balance, agility, and motor coordination. This combination often utilizes apparatus such as tightropes, trapezes, unicycles, balls, barrels, and/or poles. The performance of acrobatics requires quick reactions, and accurate timing. It can improve strength and overall body conditioning when done safely. Jason has incorporated acrobatics into his fighting style and combat. He can jump high, keep up with acrobatic opponents running across cities, and use his agility to survive falls that would kill ordinary humans.
Fighting Styles
While his training from Batman was a fundamental part of Jason’s history, due to his training under both Talia al Ghul and the All-Caste, Jason has shown to focus more on brutality, strength, and speed when it comes to fighting, some of the fighting styles that he knows include;
Aikido - A Japanese martial art, Aikido specializes in beating your opponent while keeping them safe from injury. While Red Hood is far less merciful than his former boss, he has likely been trained in this way specifically because of Batman’s non-lethal method of justice. It’s also a good martial art for redirecting an opponent’s movements, turning their own attacks against them.
Capoeira - Created by African slaves in Brazil, Capoeira is a far more fluid martial art than others, focusing on constant motion while, typically, keeping your hands on the ground rather than fixed stances with your feet being planted.
Karate - Quite possibly the most famous martial art in the world, so famous that you probably learned it as a kid, Karate focuses on quick, precise strikes with open hands, requiring no weapons while attacking in the same vein as if you were using them.
Ninjutsu - It’s kind of impossible to be trained by the stealthiest person in the DC Universe without learning Ninjutsu, the art of stealthful combat. Focusing on more guerilla style warfare and espionage, it’s a school of combat that involves several different fighting styles.
Savate - A form of french kickboxing, Savate combines old English style boxing techniques with graceful movements to make your feet, and ONLY your feet, as effective as any potential weapon.
Krav Maga - An Israeli martial art, Krav Maga is a bit of a fusion of different fighting styles like wrestling, Karate, Judo, but with a focus on realistic scenarios in which it might be required, and learning to be aggressive in a fight.
Kickboxing - Kickboxing is a very varied martial art, originally derived when combining original boxing techniques with that of Karate techniques. There are various styles of kickboxing, such as the previously mentioned Savate, Japanese kickboxing, and American kickboxing.
Silat - Derived from the Indonesian archipelago, there are many different styles and schools of combat for Silat, but the martial art typically focuses on precise strikes, weapon skills with blades no bigger than a broadsword, manipulation of an opponent’s joints in combat, or a mix of these three skills.
Taekwondo - Coming from the Korean peninsula, Taekwondo focuses on various styles of kicks to hit above the waist, including spinning kicks, jumping kicks, and fast movements with the user’s legs.
Resistance to Mind Control & Toxins
After Jason was resurrected by the Lazarus Pit, Talia al Ghul brought him to be trained by the immortal woman Ducra. Ducra was the leader of the All-Caste and taught Jason guidance on being one of the world’s most skilled assassins. Part of that training included teaching Jason how to be in control of his mind. After completing this training, Jason is able to have a good resistance to mind control and break himself free from illusions. In addition, Jason has also developed a resistance to toxins thanks to Ducra’s training. This is shown in a fight with the Joker where the supervillain tried to poison Jason with a paralytic toxin, but it failed to affect him.

Weaknesses
Winter Soldier
While Barnes may be an incredibly deadly assassin and fierce fighter, the Winter Soldier is not infallible. For starters, Bucky’s past has haunted him for much of his post-brainwashed life. While this doesn’t necessarily detract from his skill or combat prowess, it has left him unsure of his actions.
Perhaps more notably, Bucky is heavily reliant on his metal arm. While it can operate independently of Bucky, he is obviously severely weakened if it is otherwise neutralized. Since most of Bucky’s arsenal is finite in supply, Barnes relies on his arm to provide the edge he needs in close-quarters combat. And, of course, Barnes is still human at the end of the day. A very, very, very strong human, but human all the same.
Red Hood
Jason may be one of the most talented members of the Bat-Family, but it’s important to remember that he is still a normal human, and has the same weaknesses as any other human does. In fact, this is what resulted in his own death at the hands of the Joker. Beyond that, however, Jason’s own aggression and anger has led to him making mistakes at times that have been exploited by opponents he should typically beat.
While Jason is a skilled fighter, his reliance on guns is probably his biggest weakness. He has a finite amount of ammo on him at one time, so once he runs out, he has to rely on his own combat skills, which also limits his effective range. Granted, he’s shown bullet timing feats before, but this still means a stray bullet or one he can’t see coming could require him to take another dip into the Lazarus Pit.
Summary
Winter Soldier
Advantages:
More than likely holds the advantage in strength, speed and durability
Conventionally more useful arsenal
Has more experience via being several decades older and more active in combat than Jason
Bucky’s arm likely won’t be affected by the EMP, while most of Jason’s tech will be.
Would more than likely be unaffected by the All-Blades (as they’re meant to work on magical threats).
Can likely detect Jason easily should he try to use stealth.
Bullets are more potent, consistently hurting foes far above his level
Disadvantages:
Lacks the intellect many of the Bat-family have in spades
Likely not as skilled outside raw hand-to-hand combat; stealth, for example
Smaller arsenal of gadgets
Red Hood
Advantages:
Training from Batman likely makes up for lack of comparative experience
More analytical and intelligent
Much wider arsenal
More protective armor
Disadvantages:
At a disadvantage in strength, speed and durability
Arsenal is less destructive and more specific in usage compared to Bucky’s
EMP won’t work on Bucky’s arm
All-Blades’ usability is questionable, though they likely won’t be a major factor even if usable
Much less experienced
Stealth is useless
Bullets aren’t as potent as Bucky’s
His venom is non-standard and it’s questionable how useful it would even be
Crowbars
Quite literally died due to fan demand
Verdicts

YES. FINALLY. ONE OF MY MOST REQUESTED FIGHTS.
Ahem. Anyways, who wins? Well, I think this fight is pretty clear cut. At least compared to stuff like Flash VS Archie Sonic, Beerus VS Galaxia, or She-Ra VS Wonder Woman so it’s not going to be a really long verdict.
Stats: Starting off, we have stats and straight away, Bucky takes the lead.
Speed: Jason scales to Batman and Black Canary in speed. He might be slightly slower but he should definitely be in their tier, meaning he would get anywhere from MHS+ to Relativistic to even lightspeed in combat. Bucky on the other hand… well, he would scale around Daredevil and Captain America, with the latter being slightly faster than the former, and for speed… Daredevil can process events down to the nanosecond which was calced to be 3c or 3 times faster than light. Due to this, Bucky can be anywhere from 1.5 to 290x times faster depending on what you want to believe (290x faster is a lowball for Jason and the highest Bucky can get without wank) but a safe bet would be around 3 - 6x faster which is still a pretty good speed advantage.
Strength: Strength is definitely a bigger gap than speed and Bucky has this advantage as well. It’s not just that metal arm (but it definitely helps). Scaling of someone like Wolverine (who didn’t need to regenerate from this), Bucky would be around town level via this 21.7 kiloton explosion. Yes, this is a durability feat, but Bucky is capable of harming Wolverine and scales to characters capable of accomplishing that such as Captain America. Jason would be on par with Batman who could survive this (927.88 tons of TNT / nearly 1 kiloton) but Bruce wasn’t in the center of the explosion so even then, he would downscale. I do believe there are things that get DC street-tier character sto town level, but even then, I’m not sure if Jason would truly scale to Batman or Deathstroke if they were going all out. After all, the last time Jason fought a pissed off Batman, it didn’t end too well. I’d say he should at least be large building level and would make it to CB - MCB level. Bucky on the other hand would be CB - Town level so it is a pretty significant advantage.
Durability: Scales to strength, so yes, Bucky is once again, superior.
Hax: These two don’t have some crazy hax like reality warping but to break it down into extremely easy and simple terms:
Bucky’s EMP will screw Jason’s tech over.
That metal arm is pretty versatile.
Bucky is arguably a better assassin (better aim and would have more lethal weaponry).
All-Blades won’t work on Bucky (they’re weirdly inconsistent).
Jason’s venom is non-standard.
Jason could use stealth but it might be moot due to Bucky’s scanners).
Red Hood has the Bat-Family training.
Red Hood has that Bat-Family tech (while not as lethal, it is slightly more versatile).
What does this mean? Well… Bucky takes the stat trinity meaning that Jason’s best hope is by going for the weak spots and by the looks of it, he might not even be strong enough to deal fatalistic blows. If the All-Blades do end up working, then he could win, but the intention is that they only work on magical characters. They both have extremely powerful bullets, but you could make a compelling argument that Bucky is the better shot and the better assassin overall. Of course, Jason would have an advantage in CQC HAD IT NOT BEEN FOR THE STAT GAP. Red Hood is a better fighter and a more analytical thinker, so he could try to win with stealth, but again… Bucky has those sensors and once he lets out an EMP using his arm, Jason’s tech would fritz out. He could try to attack from a range, but that’s an area where I’d say Bucky is slightly better in which means at the end of the day, I’ll have to go with Winter Soldier due to his superior stats, experience advantage, superior skill at range, and specifically lethal arsenal which would counter everything that Jason can throw at him. Looks like Red Hood just couldn’t hood out alive out of this winter.

(Me when i said the fight after Wally vs Sonic would be Giorno vs Joker..in all seriousness watch RWBY: The Grimm Campaign - it’s great in my opinion)
Well, this is a fight that certainly has been highly requested for a while. I will admit, I have always wanted this matchup but at the same time - I was curious on if they should do it as 3D or as Live Action because there were potential advantages and disadvantages for both, turns out they ultimately decided to do it in live action which is completely fine by me as someone who really liked Nightwing vs Daredevil. Anyway onto to the actual verdict - now this is probably not going to be as long as some of my previous verdicts but i’ve also gotten a couple of things i would like to say about this matchup and how i think it will go.
Let’s start off with something a bit unconventional - their arsenals. Honestly I think this is one of the most interesting aspects of this fight as you could easily make a convincing argument for both in terms of who has better arenals as you could honestly make an argument either way. I do think Red Hood definitely has the more unique arsenal with his Electrified Gliding Wings and All-Blades which in all honestly is one of the biggest factors in deciding who wins this matchup. The problem is that All-Blades are specifically stated to only work on magic based beings so that would automatically not allow them to be used in DEATH BATTLE. But thanks to poor writing, they are also inconsistent considering Jason was able to pull them out against Robots and Aliens (though it’s possible they have some magic element to them). Personally i would take the statement that they work on non-magical beings at face value and chalk up the times they have worked on non magical beings as outliers or inconsistencies. If Red Hood was allowed the All-Blades they i could honestly see Red Hood probably winning considering they have worked on Herald Tier Characters before but personally i don’t agree with them being used. As for Red Hood’s other weapons - I do think they would be able to work decently on Winter Soldier - his Bolas would be able to neutralise one of his body parts, he could try and electrify Winter Soldier's arm.
However, Red Hood’s arsenal lacks the power of Winter Soldier's as well as the possible counters. Winter Soldier's arm is honestly the best weapon Bucky has and considering how versatile it is - it can charge itself with electrical energy, has a flamethrower, can reload Winter Solider’s weapons automatically. But the biggest advantage that Winter Soldier's robotic arm grants him is the ever valuable EMP which neutralises electronics including Red Hood’s domino mask and his helmet meaning Winter Soldier could very easily blind Red Hood before finishing him off. Winter Soldier also has way more guns and grenades then Red Hood as generally speaking - Red Hood mostly relies on two dual pistols while Winter Soldier carries a fair variety of weapons with him including a Kazaar Sniper Rifle that can shoot from moons away as well as a pistol that can damage herald level beings such as Red Hulk. Overall, I think Red Hood’s arsenal is more versatile - I would say Winter Soldier matches if not outright counters most if not all of RH’s arsenal.
Now let’s talk about experience and intelligence and this one is a bit tricky. In terms of actual experience, Winter Soldier is definitely more experienced than Red Hood having been around since the 1940s while at most Jason is in his mid 20s-early 30s. WS has been going on many, many missions thanks to the Amercians, Russians and just his own personal missions and has fought off extremely skilled assassins as well as superhumans such as Wolverine and Miles Morales. That coupled with the fact that it has been stated that Bucky is one of the greatest assassins in the marvel universe - compared to the likes of Elektra and Bullseye. While Red Hood definitely has a lot of experience in his life due to both his League of Assassins Training and his training under Batman i don’t think it really compared to Bucky.
On the other hand, intelligence is where I would slightly lean towards Jason. Bucky isn’t an idiot and he is certainly a gifted tactician as shown against his conflict with Wolverine where he purposefully used the environment around him in order to neutralise Wolverine’s super senses and get the jump on him - he can’t really compare to someone who was trained by Batman and the League of Assassins. I do think Red Hood generally relies more on a direct approach then Winter Soldier but that training from Batman definitely helps him out a lot in that area.
Now let’s get to the main course - he wins in terms of stats.
Let’s talk Speed, frankly i will be honest - i think Winter Soldier absolutely eclipses Red Hood when it comes to speed. In terms of Speed Feats, Winter Soldier has dodged attacks from Dodges an attack from an Accuser. Accusers are extremely fast as shown with Ronan the Accuser being able to tag Quicksilver which runs at 1500 m/s. He is also fast enough to run as fast as radio waves which can move at FTL Speeds. At the very least Winter Soldier scales to Captain America who blocked Electro’s Lighting moving at Massively Hypersonic Speeds. While Red Hood has dodged attacks from Herald Level characters like Bizzaro, the problem is that during his fight against Bizarro - Bizarro was severely weakened and nowhere near his full capacity. In terms of actual speed feats - Red Hood is a definite bullet dodger considering he has dodged sniper fire as well as dodged alien bullets in the past. He also dodged machine gunfire from James Gordon’s Bat Mech-Suit. Most of the Bat Family has been put at Massively Hypersonic Speeds so i think it’s safe to say that Red Hood would be there. So in terms of Speed i definitely think Winter Soldier has the edge.
In terms of Durability, i would definitely say Winter Soldier also has that locked down considering he has tanked attacks from superhumans like Miles Morales - taking the full force of bio-electricity from Miles Morales. Considering that Miles’s Electricity can affect the Rhino - who can destroy whole buildings with ease and tank RPGs to the chest which have enough force to destroy buildings - he should be at least Large Building Level-City Block Level in terms of durability (it should be noted Captain America has also fought Rhino). He should also be comparable to Wolverine - considering the two have fought numerous times. Wolverine, who survived getting punched from New York to Georgia (13.33-333.48 tons of TNT). Red Hood in terms of durability should be Building Level considering he can tank getting hit by a bazooka. So while it’s close, i would ultimately say Winter Soldier tanks Durability.
In terms of Strength, i would say Bucky also takes this but i am less sure on it then Speed and Durability. Bucky is strong enough to rips through the bottom half of a car as well as throw Superhumans like Miles Morales into chimneys - destroying the upper half of it . It should also be noted that Winter Soldier fought Burnside Captain America who has been stated to be , who is physically stronger then Steve Rogers. Steve Rogers is physically strong enough to picks up a 450 pound sumo wrestler and then throw him, benches 1100 pounds. Steven can also hold up this collapsing building with the help of his energy shield.Considering Bucky has been stated to be comparable to Rogers and the two have ever fought before. Bucky should comfortably scale to him. As for Red Hood, he has shown being able to flip Bane, who weighs over three hundred pounds. Bane is also strong enough to completely shatter Concrete which is designed to stand significant explosions. In terms of his own strength feats, Red Hood can hold up a part of a collapsing roof (it is likely he was not holding the entire building up as that would not really be consistent). I would say Red Hood is around Building Level. Overall I would have to give it to Winter Soldier in terms of strength but it is close.
Overall while i believe Red Hood does edge out Winter Soldier in terms of intelligence and having a wider arsenal, i think Bucky takes due to Strength,Speed,Durability, having a more powerful arsenal and having a lot more experience then the Red Hood. It is a close fight but in the end I think Red Hood won’t be surviving the cold night against this Winter Solider.

(it ends)
What we have here, ladies and gentlemen, is a prime opportunity to kill off one of Detective Comics’ own, and I’ll be damned if I wasn’t going to take this to hand a rare loss to them. Let’s count down the ways
Bucky may not have the crazy Batfamily education and training Jason has, but conversely, he’s also got the advantage of having been Winter Soldier far longer than Jason has ever been alive; on average, that’s still about 50+ years worth of combat experience and elite-level training that should let him keep pace with Red Hood, if not surpassing him entirely.
While he might not have the same range of gadgets and weapons that Red Hood has, Winter Soldier’s still got enough counters in that department. Jason has more tech on his side, but Bucky’s EMP kills their effectiveness. The All Blades seem like they’d be a game changer, but even if we factored in how Jason can now summon them against foes who are not “absolute evil” (which Bucky isn’t) or supernaturally-powered (which Bucky is also not), there’s some dubious contention on that end which leaves doubts on how effective it’ll be on this fight.
They’re both packing enough conventional firepower between guns and explosives that they’re equal enough there, not to mention that both have had more than enough experience fighting firearm-wielding opponents that it wouldn’t be too much of a concern for either combatant here in theory. That said, Bucky’s customized guns seem to have a lot more consistency in hurting foes way above either of their pay grades, so that gives him a leg up if he manages to nail Jason with a couple of good shots to cripple and probably kill him.
What sort of seals the deal here is that this fight should be a reminder of how Marvel VS DC matches work for the most part. With very few exceptions, rule of thumb is that DC heralds win against Marvel heralds, with the opposite being true for street levelers and a few peeps who lie in the middle ground. Whether by feats accomplished on his own or scaling to other people close to him in his universe, Winter Soldier’s entering this fight with a big enough lead in stats that this would border onto stomp territory off that alone.
Red Hood is certainly no slouch, but the Winter Soldier boasts enough edges to reliably take him down nice and easy for this ep.

(So hyped to see The Batman in 2021)
I’m back for another Death Battle, featuring another member of the Bat Family. First off though, I saw the teaser trailer for Matt Reeves’ The Batman in DC Fandome. I’m honestly hyped for the movie, and Robert Pattinson cleared every doubt I had with him as Batman.
I’ll keep my verdict brief since while I did work on the blog, I’ve also been busy for the last few days. Anyway, Bucky has the advantage in all three stats. He’s more consistent when it comes to lightspeed reactions than Jason and has more town level feats on his side. The best you can do with Jason is scale him to Deathstroke, who has some small levels feats of his own. After all, the two have fought multiple times and Jason was able to cut through his armor. However, those stats are not enough to compete with Bucky.
The biggest problem for Jason is Bucky’s metal arm, which is basically Batman’s utility belt in 1 arm. It has superhuman strength, can automatically reload weapons, discharge electricity and an EMP, and possesses a built-in flamethrower and a retractable blade among other functions. While Jason does have some unique weapons on him such as his arm blades, electric gliding wings, bat taser, and the All-Blades, none of them are capable of exploiting Bucky’s metal arm. In fact, the metal arm doesn’t have any known weaknesses that can be exploited. While it isn’t made out of any of Marvel’s special metals, Bucky’s metal arm isn’t can’t be affected by EMPs.
Speaking of the All Blades, Jason has some special swords powered by his soul that he can just summon at any time. However, against Bucky, the All-Blades are just regular swords. They have a special property of being super effective against magical beings. One argument that can be made against Bucky is that the All-Blades can be more effective against him due to the Infinity Formula being a diluted version of a magical alchemical serum. However, it’s a shaky argument since the formula is a diluted version. Interestingly enough, Jason does have a special technique in which he can punch out a person’s powers and immortality, so it’s possible he can do the same with the properties of the Infinity Formula inside Bucky. However, it wouldn’t change the outcome since Bucky didn’t have the formula for the majority of his career as the Winter Soldier.
Overall, unlike Dick, Jason won’t be able to exploit his opponent to secure a victory. It sucks, but there’s nothing much that can be done about it. Between these two combatants in this fight, Bucky will be the Winter, Soldiering on to victory.

After...whatever the fuck Wally vs Archie Sonic was…it feels nice to have a relatively grounded fight for a change, I say relatively grounded because well this is comic books we’re talking about. While I get how people are pretty tired of us getting yet another Marvel and DC episode this season especially when the last DC fights weren’t spread out in the slightest. (Please just give us more video game fights) this was easily one of my most wanted matchups for a long while. Red Hood is one of my favorite DC characters so I’ve been wanting him in a Death Battle for a long time and while I wouldn’t have minded him going against ol’ Frank, the similarities between Jason and Bucky are just too good to pass up (hell they even reappeared in their new identities just a month apart from each other) so to see them finally announce it was really cool
and I have faith Ismahawk can deliver on the fight.
Now for who wins?
(Thank you to Animator3003 for this incredible art)
Clockboxxer
Flash vs Sonic was a super fun ride. That OST is just…spectacular. The animation could’ve been longer, but it was still sweet as hell. There are a few things I don’t like, though. Super Sonic doing pretty much nothing but one blitz and the silly usage of anti-feats to peg base Sonic at way lower than he should be, for example. Doesn’t stop this high-speed match from ranking #1 on my season 7 list, even if my boy Sonic had to get fed to the DC pack. But hey, I like DC. Especially Flash.
You know who else I like? Red Hood. And he’s gonna fucking die, more about that later. I kinda wish this matchup was 3D, but at the same time, this probably works better for the schedule as a whole and lets Ismahawk strut their stuff. It’s already looking like quite the step up from Nightwing vs Daredevil. I’m impressed with how good the helmet and arm look. I’m hype to see it play out.
And it also looks like this is gonna be the opposite result to Dick vs Matt. After all these superpowered teenagers and universe-destroying gods, it’s nice to have something relatively grounded. At least in style.
Bucky’s definitely stronger and tougher. If the metal arm wasn’t enough of a visual indicator, Marvel street tier feats generally go above and beyond their DC counterparts. Bucky can throw hands with Wolverine, who survived that 21 kiloton blast, which alone seems to be well beyond the best stuff I’ve seen for Jason. There’s the numerous kiloton feats for the Spider-Man characters that Bucky oughta scale to. The best thing you can do for Red Hood here is some big boi explosions that DC street levelers could survive, but none seem to quite reach the caliber of Sebastian Stan over here.
“But what about venom?”
Not only is venom highly non-standard for Jason, I think it’s overhyped. The feat of “breaking Supergirl’s grip” looks nothing like he overpowered her. It was just a knee-jerk reaction of “Don’t touch me” that shocked her. She clearly wasn’t trying her best to restrain him. Even then, if we wanna use outliers, there’s Bucky somehow crushing a Cosmic Cube.
Speed is a lot closer. Marvel street tier speed feats are more consistent and plentiful than DC, however, still giving Winter Soldier a win. Best case scenario for Jason, you use nanoseconds for both, they have equal speed but Bucky’s is just more consistent.
So stats are pretty easy. What about everything else? Well, being trained and educated by the League of Assassins and Batman, he’s definitely got the skill and smarts aspect over Bucky. Not that Captain America and military training aren’t still fantastic, it just doesn’t stack up to the galaxy-brained Bat-Family.
However, this advantage kinda cancels out when you realize Bucky’s been taking names and kicking ass longer than Jason has even been alive, taking the experience advantage by a lot. There’s also something to be said about his impressive marksmanship. In the end, they’re gonna be pretty well-matched in CQC, but as established, Bucky’s got strength and likely speed, so...yeah.
Where these two really shine is their guns and gear. For the most part, their bullets won’t be making much of a difference, but Bucky probably has more raw firepower with that vibranium gun.
Jason’s definitely more versatile, but Bucky’s arm alone is probably more than enough to carry him. It’s already equipped with good offensive options, like blades and a flamethrower, but what’ll really screw Jason over is that EMP. No taser, no electric gliding wings, no high-tech variants of batarangs. That ain’t gonna bode well for the suit.
Meanwhile, Bucky’s got that domino mask. This’ll make both camouflage and stealth useless. Combine that with the absurd marksmanship of shooting from moons away, and Jason’s really got nowhere to hide.
And finally, there’s the All-Blades. While they are inconsistent, I think they’re well-defined enough to be considered a non-factor. Even then, it’s unlikely he’d bust them out against someone like Bucky.
It’s a shame. I prefer Red Hood. But he can’t really stand up to Winter Soldier’s physical abilities, war-hardened experiences, and perfectly suited counters. Jason’s gonna be meeting one cold end, cuz winter’s coming early. Not checking to see if anyone else made these puns lol
Oh, I guess there are some other things to talk about with RTX and the bonus battle.
Yeah, The Seven BR was fine. Expectations were low, so the animation was surprisingly good. It’s a sponsored bonus battle, what can I say? Good stuff. Glad they had fun making it. Would like to see Butcher or Homelander get their own solo episode one day.
Next Time...Venom vs Crona. I’ll elaborate more in that blog, but I’ll just say...not a fan.
As for season 8? Holy shit, that sounds HYPE. A 10th anniversary season full of matchups with rich DB history, be it highly requested, crazy, been joked about before etc.? The opportunity for Cole vs Alex FINALLY happening is too perfect, please please please please please plea-

(Now’s honestly the best time to start Kamen Rider.)
Can I just say that I expected Wally vs Archie Sonic’s backlash to be a lot worse? Anyways, let’s get into this fight.
Complain about more Marvel vs DC if you want, but this is one of the coolest matches we could have gotten. I love both of these characters, so this kinda does hurt, but I can’t wait to see this.
Now, let’s look through this matchup.
Right off the bat (hah), Winter Soldier is far stronger than Red Hood in the stat trinity. Red Hood has the advantage when it comes to intelligence, skill and arsenal. But ultimately, Winter Soldier’s stat advantage pretty much guarantees that intelligence won’t be the deciding factor. While Jason might have the skill advantage, the stat trinity makes sure that advantage won’t go so well. And Jason’s arsenal may be wider, but it’s not as powerful compared to Bucky’s.
The EMPs won’t work on Bucky’s arm, and Jason’s stealth gets countered by Bucky’s scanner. Pretty much anything Red Hood has, Winter Soldier will have an answer to it.
TL;DR: Red Hood is skilled, and has a ton of weapons, but he’s nowhere near Winter Soldier’s level of strength and speed, and his weapons are generally better too. In other words, it looks like Winter Soldier’s Redy to rip that Hood off. (Fucking hell this one was terrible.)

What? Two predictions in a row? Yes, but don't get used to me, I'll go away for awhile and I'll come back only for a Match-up that interests me ALOT. but before that, I'm going to make some predictions for this one.
Now this battle is almost legendary, this battle I have seen in many parts as most wanted Death Battles, this is a legendary rivalry that will be brought to real life, I am very excited about it. Now, I know that everyone wants WS to win to break DC's Winnin Spring, but I personally have no problem with that, so I will analyze both characters and then say who I think will win.
Now let's start with the Strength, Bucky's robot arm gives him a clear advantage over Jason. Sure, Jason was able to do things like fight some Venom users and hold down the roof of a broken building, which is impressive, but Bucky has pulled off awesome feats like Shatters Shockwave's helmet with a single punch and broke a Cosmic Cube... Yes, Bucky has the point in Strength.
But Strength wouldn't matter that much considering that both tend to kill their victims using weapons and various gadgets, so let's see who has the upper hand there. As members of the Bat Family, Jason has various gadgets to complement his weapons, and his armor can protect him from many things that Bucky can throw at him. However, Bucky has a large arsenal complete with all the crazy stuff on his arm, even though Jason has the top armor, I think Bucky has enough firepower to break it.
Speed is another interesting thing, Jason can react to many things like a gun being literally fired in front of him, but Bucky may have dodged lasers many times. I'm not a math guy, but I'm sure Lasers are faster than normal bullets, so another point for Bucky.
Okay, one last thing, even though Jason was trained by Batman, Bucky was trained by the Russian government to be the perfect killing weapon, and with all the years he's been alive since WWII, he definitely has the upper hand in experience and training.
I know that with Jason's most protective armor and his training with Batman one could make a good argument of why he would win, but more times than none, Bucky has the better stats, versatility, and experience to win the fight.
But it doesn't matter if I'm correct or not, we are guaranteed to have a Red Winter this year.
Time
First off, I want to take a moment to just state how overwhelmingly excited I am for this one. As a comic nut and long time fan of the show, this is a fight I’ve wanted to see for over half a decade now, and it feels strange knowing these two are finally going to throw down so soon. It’s going to be very fun seeing which one of these revived gun-toting sidekicks takes the gold.
Looking from a skill and experience perspective, these two each hold advantages over the other. Obviously, Bucky takes experience in spades. Not only did he debut much earlier in the comics, alongside Captain America in his original 40s run, but canonically being a World War II veteran makes him far older than Jason, and unlike Steve he wasn’t taking a frosty power nap all those decades. As for skill, Bucky is a pretty standard Marvel street tier. He has mastery of various martial arts and can contend with many skilled fighters of that league, such as Black Widow, Daredevil, and the Cap himself. Likewise, his military training also makes him a skilled spy and marksman, having pulled off infiltrations and assassinations well enough to make them seem like accidents or snipe a target from several moons away. However, Jason is a former Robin, meaning he has trained with the notoriously skilled and master-of-all-trades Batman. As such, stealth, tactics, and absurd amounts of combat skill come naturally to Red Hood. In hand-to-hand he has even managed to gain the upper hand against the Caped Crusader and best Ra's al Ghul in sword combat. With his detective training, he can easily deduce the weaknesses of his opponents almost instantly. In terms of martial training, both are impressive fighters with multiple fighting styles under his belt, but Jason’s Robin training means he’s contending with fighters more skilled than who Bucky typically faces. The notable exception to this is marksmanship, as Bucky’s moon snipe far outclasses any precision shot Jason’s pulled off. Comparing stealth capabilities, Winter Soldier can get the drop on Wolverine despite his superb sense of smell, but Red Hood can sneak away from Supergirl without detection from her super-hearing. Overall, and perhaps unsurprisingly, Red Hood takes a pretty distinct advantage in terms of general training and skills while Winter Soldier is vastly more experienced and a better shot.
Taking a look at these two’s arsenals is an interesting task. Both obviously carry a plethora of firearms, explosives, grappling hooks, etc., but both have wielded some surprisingly powerful equipment throughout their careers, such as Jason’s roided up version of Bane's Venom boosting his strength to break Supergirl's grip or Bucky’s extremely long range space rifle complete with Vibranium bullets. When comparing their weaponry, Red Hood has a clear advantage in terms of numbers and variety. As is fitting of a member of the Bat-Family, his arsenal is extremely jack-of-all-trades and varied. Particularly, Jason seems to carry more guns and a lot more blades than Bucky does, ranging from normal swords to arm-blades of Japanese and electric varieties. However, Winter Soldier’s equipment consistently seems to be deadlier and more effective in combat, especially through his iconic bionic arm. This metal limb is quite versatile, capable of emitting streams of flame and currents of electricity from the palm. Particularly dangerous to Jason is the arm’s ability to generate EMPs, as much of Red Hood’s own arsenal is dependent on electronics and has never shown a resistance to these pulses, allowing Bucky to render them weakened or useless. However, Jason has wielded at least 2 things which could surpass the Winter Soldier’s normal calibur. One is the aforementioned Venom, which while potent, he only carried for a brief time and is hardly standard to his arsenal. The other is his strongest pair of swords: the All-Blades. These magic swords can be summoned at will and can match Herald tiers weapons and characters, such as Wonder Woman's atom-splitting Sword of Hephaestus. The problem is these blades are consistently stated to only work on magical beings, which Bucky is not, yet we also see examples of the swords cutting apart robots, so this limitation may be exaggerated. At least to our knowledge, this is left ambiguous overall in the comics, but the lack of showings of Red Hood using the swords against normal criminals or other Street tiers make their exclusion the safer bet in this fight. Without his amped Venom or the All-Blades, Jason is hard pressed to overcome Bucky’s arm and own varied arsenal, giving the Winter Soldier a general edge in this field.
When it comes to the stat trinity, Bucky likely takes the edge. For speed, he can match the likes of Daredevil, who can react down to the nanosecond, and of course Captain America, who can react to Cyclops' light speed optic lasers. These, among many more feats for Marvel’s Street tiers, place Bucky fairly safely in the low FTL range. Red Hood, on the other hand, can compare to fellow Street tier Black Canary, who dodges lasers and claims to perceive down to the nanosecond. This would place him at comparable speeds, but it is worth noting Marvel in general is far more consistent with its laser timing at this level, making it a more reliable placement for Bucky than Jason. In terms of strength/durability, Bucky can match Wolverine, who survived this massive 21 kiloton explosion, or scale to Cap tanking what's essentially a nuke to the face, which comes out to about 12 kilotons. Jason is comparable to Deathstroke, who lifted this shipping container while surviving an 83 ton explosion, and the Dark Knight himself, who withstood this 927 ton detonation, although he was away from the epicenter of the blast and likely did not have to tank the entire near kiloton. Even if he did, however, this leaves Jason lagging a bit behind Bucky’s calibur, leaving him the weaker of the two.
Overall, this is a glorious fight and both will bring their A game into the ring, but only one can stand supreme at the end of the day. Although Jason likely edges out in terms of general training and brings a varied arsenal to the battlefield, Bucky sports superior stats and experience, while his arm’s EMP can cut Jason’s arsenal short. Honestly, I could see this going the other way if they give Red Hood his Venom or All-Blades, but with both being questionable to include, I will place my bets on the Winter Soldier. Both have faced death before, but on Sunday it will be Jason Todd who will be sent back to the grave.

(And now, self advertisement for the Death Battle Awards here)
This is going to be good. Bucky and Jason are both incredibly skilled fighters both with hand-to-hand combat and with firearms. Jason’s done some ridiculous things in his life, but so has Bucky, possibly even more so than Jason. The thing that really helps Bucky here, however, is that he quite literally has the better stats. He not only has the better stat trinity, but he has far greater experience too, having been in combat for decades and remembering all of it, even the stuff when he was under mind control
Yes, Jason was trained by Batman, so he has that advantage. Pretty sure if you pit any soldier nowadays against Batman, they’d be screwed. And yes, Jason has a larger number of guns. But Bucky has been avoiding gunfire from even the best marksman in the Marvel Universe, and he’s held his own against the likes of even Iron Man. Not to mention the things that Bucky carries around hurt A LOT more.
Yes, Bucky’s never really had to deal with stealth as much, but Jason also doesn’t really try to use stealth all that much, so it’s not like Bucky will have that much to worry about. To be fair to this episode, the fight is closer than it might seem without the stats, but add those numbers in and this becomes quite a stomp in Bucky’s favor. Looks like Red Hood doesn’t really have a shot in this fight as he bites the bullet against the Winter Soldier. Congrats on finally getting your third win against DC in four years, Marvel. Can’t wait until next year, when you finally get the fifth

(I love me some good boys-turned-bad… and then back to good)
While much of the depth of Wally VS Sonic’s debate admittedly went a little bit over my head, I am glad to see the point I focused on being a key factor. Luckily, this matchup is a lot more straightforward in that neither of them require an hour long dissertation to determine how big a zone is. I expect a lot of the more clear-cut points to be explained in great detail, so I’d instead like to address a couple points about Bucky scaling.
First, a feat I see Bucky scaled to somewhat frequently is Sam Wilston surviving a bomb.
(city level)Meaning Bucky and everyone in the ballpark of them scales.
This feat takes place in issues 24 and 25 of the 2013 Rick Remender run of Captain America.
At a first glance, this seems about right.
Sam flies the bomb up to save the city, it explodes, he survives.
So Sam’s got that sweet city dura then, right?
Well, yes and no.
Here Sam clearly explains that it was actually his Vibranium Wings that absorbed ‘most’ of the blast. Of course, he isn’t about to specifically narrow down an exact percentage for us, but his wings are clearly in tatters as he lies on the floor.
Here’s where it gets a little weird. Sam states that the wings absorbed most of the explosion, but he wasn’t covering the bomb in the last panel we see him before it goes off. Admittedly, this is an assumption based on the scene, but it would only make sense to me if Sam covered the bomb before the detonation with the wings, even if we don’t see it. Otherwise, his word choice and reliance on the wings for his own protection don’t seem to make much sense. If we picture Sam ceasing his flight and then covering the bomb, then it makes sense why he’d say the wings absorbed most of the blast and had to rely on Vibranium in the first place to do something like that.
What this then means is that Sam didn’t take the full extent of a city-bursting bomb to the face. He absolutely took some, of course, even by his own admission. Much like how Captain America still has to take some damage from huge explosions despite having his shield blocking, Sam definitely survived some amount of this bomb.
Narratively, Steve Rogers and Sharon Carter fully believe this blast killed Sam. Hell, Sam himself sure acts like the bomb will do him in if you read his dialogue before it explodes. Looking at this pragmatically, Sam only survived because of the Vibranium. Otherwise, he and others who would surely know his capabilities all assumed a city-level bomb would have killed him.
Getting a bit back on-topic here, how does this scale to Barnes? Well, unless he is given the Vibranium arm from the MCU, Bucky has no such Vibranium defense. Cap’s shield and Falcon’s wings provide both of them with a crucial dampener to destructive power that would otherwise kill them. Bucky may scale to Sam in raw, base stats, and I don’t doubt he could replicate Falcon’s feat here if he were in Sam’s position, but on his own, he has no comparable defense on Steve or Sam’s level. And as far as Sam goes, I still wouldn’t say Sam alone is city level in durability. He’s barely pushing it with his best equipment; the blast still seriously injured him, after all. And without knowing exactly how much of the explosion he directly took, I’d say it’s unquantifiable to get an exact level of dura for him from this feat without considering the Vibranium wings.
That all being said, it’s not like Bucky is hurting for durability. He has survived a thrashing by Skadi, whose weapon is in the same ballpark as Mjolnir, so that alone is gonna be pretty damning for Jason to surpass. Sure, Jason has swung well above his weight class before, but there’s a couple issues there. First, he has always needed some kind of amp. Whether it be his venom ala Bane, or the All-Blades granting him extra strength or the ability to target specific beings, Jason himself is very clearly not above your general DC street tier. And second, Bucky may not be all that higher in his own world, his high-ends are still notably more reliable than Jason. For example, Bucky’s standard blaster being capable of harming Frost Giants and Red Hulk.
Actually, that’s probably the reason why I’m ultimately siding with Bucky here. Jason is absolutely the more intelligent, strategic, and better-trained of the two - as is typical with Bat-Family matchups - but Bucky’s equipment is notably more powerful than Todd. And unlike his pals Steve and Matt, Bucky actually carries stuff on him that can counter Jason’s equipment. Not to mention his metal arm is rather difficult to remove from the fight. Just separating it from Barnes won’t end the fight, as the arm can fight on its own and will almost certainly catch Jason off-guard. Not something you want to do when fighting someone with a blaster like Bucky.
So, yeah. Jason Todd-ally can’t keep up with The Winter Soldier’s strength, useful equipment, and killer instinct. Ah well, at least it’s hood that Marvel can get a win streak going… right?
hahahahahahahaahahahaha

Hello folks, its Immortal ThunderGod back as a guest on this blog and this it is for Winter Soldier vs Red Hood: one of the fights I have been looking forward to seeing happening ever since Death Battle had kicked. Now here we are in 2020 with the fight actually happening. So without further information I am gonna break down who wins in this Death Battle.
Strength/Durability: Throughout their careers fighting alongside their mentors and their solo outings as Winter Soldier and Red Hood. Both Bucky and Jason even as street levelers are capable of taking an absurd amount of punishment from superhumans and metahumans alike as well as being able to go toe to toe with them. Winter Soldier easily scales to the likes of Captain America and Wolverine whereas Red Hood would scale to the likes of Batman and Deathstroke, when you look at and compare the feats of the characters that these two respective combatants scale to. Bucky would be the one to come out on top. Going by just lower ends, Marvel Street Leveler feats often come out at City Block-Multi-City Block Level while DC Street Leveler feats come in at about Large Building-City Block Level.
But wait what about Deathstroke’s submarine tanking feat which got Town Level? Shouldn’t that allow Jason to edge out Bucky in Strength/Durability? Well no because if you are gonna give Jason some high end DC street leveler scaling then you have to give it to Bucky too and in that case. Jason gets pulverized by him even harder because with high end Marvel street leveler scaling, Bucky would get feats like Captain America surviving a ship crashing into orbit, Falcon tanking a bomb by shielding himself to prevent the explosion from destroying New York City and few other Kilotons feats like these. Which is only scratching the surface. And they range between Town Level-City Level never mind the fact that the higher end Marvel Street Leveler feats tend to be more consistent then DC Street Leveler high end feats. Sooo yeahhh Winter Soldier gets the edge in Strength/Durability over Red Hood.
Speed: Both Bucky and Jason are bullet-timers even being able to dodge various projectiles like missiles and lasers, but when scaling is taken into account. Winter Soldier’s speed scaling chain is far more impressive than anything Red Hood scales to as Bucky scales to Marvel Street Leveler speed feats such as Captain America blocking a needle at the speed of light, Daredevil and Beast’s Nanosecond feats and street levelers of Marvel regularly dodging/reacting to Cyclops’s Optic Blast which are repeatedly stated to be traveling at the speed of light. Safely putting Barnes’s combat and reaction speed at FTL while Jason’s speed is placed at Massively Hypersonic due to being comparable to the likes of Cassandra Cain and Katana. Now granted there are legitimate FTL feats for DC Street Levelers like Black Canary and Jericho’s Nanosecond feat, BUT unfortunately FTL DC Street Levelers is far less consistent than FTL Marvel Street Levelers. So therefore even if you were to consider the DC FTL feats to be legit for Red Hood, I still have to slightly lean towards Winter Soldier having the speed advantage over him again due to the greater consistency of FTL feats there is for Marvel Street Levelers.
Arsenal: Based on pure conventional weapons. Bucky carries a far more reliable and destructive arsenal of weapons then Jason, having access to not only explosives, but also firearms with explosive attachments. There is also Bucky’s metal arm which automatically makes him 10x stronger than Jason and being able to shield himself against nearly any attack Jason throws at him. Even Jason’s EMP’s would not be able to disable Bucky’s arm considering that it's capable of resisting such things in the past. If Jason were to try and take the stealth approach using his camouflage technology, Bucky can negate that by his domino mask’s night vision to detect him. Which then leaves the All-Blades as Jason’s last trump card that he has left that could possibly help him win against Bucky as the All-Blades could supposedly match blow for blow against or able to kill Amazons and beings like Darkseid… However, it is practically useless, as it's too inconsistent with its portrayal. Whenever the All-Blades were seen in action, it was portrayed to be only capable of hurting magical beings and not humans. Now sure it has been able to cut non-magical beings like robots, BUT no showings of it ever displaying that it can cut humans. Even if the All-Blades could affect humans, Jason would still have to hit Bucky in order to kill him with it. And he realistically cannot ever tag him with it due to his comparable or superior speed.
Intelligence: In the intelligence department, I would have to give this to Red Hood. Being trained by the World’s Greatest Detective, Batman and hacking skills taught to him by his Robin successor, Tim Drake. This makes Jason - a very analytical fighter, being able to quickly adapt on the fly and deducing an opponent’s weak spot. While Bucky is no slouch in this department considering his training under Captain America, but doesn’t hold the candle to anything Jason has under his belt.
Skills: Despite being almost primarily ranged fighters. Bucky and Jason still possessed the necessary skills in hand to hand combat to go toe to toe against some of the finest combatants of their respective universes having been trained by Captain America and Batman. For Winter Soldier it was Captain America, Daredevil, Wolverine. For Red Hood on the other hand it was Batman, Deathstroke and Lady Shiva. In terms of raw martial arts skills, Jason is definitely the far more skilled fighter of the two, but that’s to say that Bucky would fall behind as he is still quite formidable himself. But based on my research, his display of hand to hand combat skills did not impress me as much as Jason’s did.
Experience: When it comes to experience in combat. Winter Soldier has a leg up against Red Hood due to living his life as a soldier and assassin, giving him decades of combat experience. Red Hood’s only type of experience in combat was through his training from Batman in his early youth. To which it has nothing on Bucky’s seasoned experience and fighting prowess since World War II.
Verdict: Now for the verdict on who I believe is going to win in this Death Battle. Based on everything I have researched up until now. My money is on Winter Soldier due to his superior stats, destructive arsenal and decades of combat experience which outshines Red Hood’s superior intelligence and martial arts skills. While Jason has been known to be capable of exploiting his opponent’s weakness, it wouldn’t be so easy for him to deduce Bucky’s as it requires knowledge of his past and actions as the Winter Soldier --- which would be able to distract or catch him off guard, but unfortunately Jason does not have access to such things since prep time is typically prohibited in Death Battles. So this allows Bucky to remain calm and calculating throughout the entirety of their fight, making more smarter decisions and maintaining control of the fight. It also doesn’t help that Jason is occasionally prone to be brash and reckless whenever things do not go his way which Bucky can use to put him at a disadvantage in several situations. And so because of that, I think this is gonna be a Cold Winter’s Night for the Red Hood.

Obligatory statement: Wally vs Sonic was great and i’m glad they got the verdict right, because good god, dealing with certain parts of that argument was a headache (Fatehax can go die in a hole because I never wanna see it again). 6D Speed Force FTW!
Alright, Death Battle, what’s next on our agenda of murder-
...ah.
So here we have the second live-action fight, once again featuring Ismahawk. I remember pretty distinctly what happened last time, and while I don’t agree with Nightwing VS. Daredevil, the fight itself was pretty good. And now we’re on to a fight I… didn’t want to see. I much would have preferred Winter Soldier VS. Nightwing and Red Hood VS. Punisher, but oh well.
Anyway I’ll get this out of the way now: Bucky yeets Jason pretty fast
The Winter Soldier scales to things far above Jason’s pay grade, and anything Jason has that could come close had extraneous circumstances stopping it from getting high results (Like being on the outside of a nuclear explosion vastly decreasing the durability needed to survive it), and he has WAY more feats of FTL reaction times as opposed to Jason, who only has one or two.
Both of them have a lot of weapons, some of which are above their pay grade, but while Red Hood’s swords only work on magical beings, and are limited in their range, Bucky’s firearms can kill Jason a lot faster from a lot further away. Yes, Red Hood is better trained because “Lol batman”, but that won’t really help him given the statistics disadvantage.
“But hey,” you may ask. “Maybe those are outliers, right? It doesn’t make sense for street levelers to be able to consistently harm heralds with weapons, or tank nukes.” Well, I can humor that argument, as Death Battle did use equal stats for Nightwing and Daredevil before. Even assuming that, Jason would still lose in this fight. I’ll take a page from my friend’s book and compare the two’s respective arsenals to show that, even with equal statistics, Winter Soldier has the superior weaponry.
ARSENAL COMPARISON
Pistols:
-WS SIG Sauer: Better accuracy
-RH Glock: More rounds
Rifles:
-WS M4: More accurate, Longer range, Less kick
-RH AK-47: More reliable, Stronger rounds
Submachine Guns:
-WS Skorpion: Higher rate of fire, Easier concealment, Stronger rounds
-RH Uzi: Larger magazine
Launchers:
-WS MGL: More rounds, Longer range
-RH RPG: More stopping power, More precision-based
Knives:
-WS: Carries more, ranged options
-RH: Better built, stronger
So yeah. As you can see, Bucky’s weapons just have more overall advantages over Jason’s. And this isn’t even bringing up his more esoteric weaponry. Red Hood was trained in stealth by batman? Winter Soldier’s goggles can scan entire buildings down to the individual people inside them. Red Hood has EMPs? Bucky’s got one built into his arm! And speaking of, that arm is better than ANYTHING Jason has in his arsenal, something that’s sure to piss the hood off. Which brings me to my final points: Mentality.
Both of these two have their fair share of mental issues, but one is… a lot harder to exploit than the other. Bucky’s issues typically arise when people bring up his past and the things he’s done, whereas Jason is just straight-up hotheaded and aggressive. If this comes up at all, it’s more likely Bucky will be able to exploit Jason’s attitude than it is the other way around.
The Red Hood is no slouch in combat, and he’d stand a good chance against any other opponent, but The Winter Soldier simply has the strength, speed, durability, and arsenal to take him down. Looks like Jason saw Red when he tried to tough out this Winter.
Well so much for that DC winning streak, am i right guys? I’m sure Marvel will start winning for a while again and definitely isn’t going to die in their next fight hahah right guys
TexasRoastingOnAnOpenFire (Robin)
Well, it looks like this matchup has finally arrived! Winter Soldier vs The Red Hood. Two sidekicks that died a ridiculously long time ago and made their return in the mid 2000s. Since then, they’ve both went on to become pretty popular characters in both of their universes and both have had movies, albeit Jason’s simply being an animated movie. With that in mind, which of these two resurrected sidekicks has the strength, skill, and speed to win a Death Battle?
It’s Bucky.
No need to stretch this out. Bucky absolutely shits on Jason in everything. He scales to way too many top tiers in the Marvel Street Tier and has contended with shit FAR BEYOND that tier at points even. Not saying he’s above street because he’s obviously not, but he’s boxed outside of his weight class a hell of a lot more than Jason has. He’s also got a major experience advantage and his training is pretty good too, albeit only a little less better than Jason’s. I honestly think they’re similar in speed to a certain extent through scaling to nanosecond stuff from BC and I believe Daredevil, but Winter Soldier is still likely faster as I’m pretty sure there’s Spidey stuff reaching 3c, and Bucky has kept up with Spidey characters before. Durability is the same case here, with Bucky being too damn bulky for Jason to do any reasonable damage too. Even giving Jason the non-standard venom might not be enough either. His All Blades COULD decimate Bucky, but only if you believe the trace magic in the Infinity Formula is enough time justify it...which I really don’t think it does. Overall, I just think Bucky has what it takes to give Marvel another win over DC comics.
Rip Jason, I love you.
Jedi Bender
Who saw this coming, am I right?
Anyway not gonna make a long in depth analysis on why this character would win cuz I’m most likely one of the few people who are biased for the 2nd Robin going into this Live Action Battle so just like with Nightwing two years ago I’m going all in with Red Hood.

LIGHT IT UP! LIGHT IT UP! NOW I’M BURNING!
FEEL THE RUSH! FEEL THE RUSH! OF ADRENALINE!
WE ARE YOUNG! WE ARE STRONG! WE WILL RISE!
CAUSE I’M BACK! BACK! BACK FROM THE DEAD TONIGHT!
OHHH YESSS BABY! BUCKY VS JASON! WINTER SOLDIER VS RED HOOD HERE WE GO!
After the admittedly subpar Nightwing vs Daredevil, Ismahawk is back with the Live Action fight EVERYONE wanted. Even back when Live Action was first announced to happen people wanted this, and when Ben said we were getting another this season, I think everyone secretly went nuts inside, cause we knew, we KNEW this was approaching.
And now it’s fucking here.
Hell I’m not even a huge fan of either and I’m pumped as hell. So let’s look at what we’re dealing with, shall we?
So statwise Bucky has the edge here, not even gonna skirt around here. Everyone here likely knows and has made it clear that street level Marvel characters just slap around DC’s and Bucky’s no different. Fucker’s taken on Frank fucking Castle, as well as Hawkeye, Wolverine, AND Daredevil AT THE SAME TIME, while Jason usually needs some sort of amp to take on bigger foes like that.
Speedwise, even if we compare Jason to the likes of Black Canary and say he’s rela, Bucky has NUMEROUS laser dodging feats and could take on Kree Accusers, and those guys can swat Quicksilver away. So Bucky’s easily got FTL reflexes.
Onto other factors like hax, and this is where Bucky really starts to shine. Barnes’ EMP can shut down a large chunk of Red Hood’s arsenal, he’s a FAR better marksman, able to snipe shit from moons away, his arm pops off and can strangle Jason if he doesn’t expect it, Jason can’t hide from Bucky due to his sensors, while Bucky’s hidden from Wolverine of all people, (and stealth is like the main thing the Bat-Family uses to get the drop on tougher foes.) Bucky’s been at it for longer than Jason or even Bruce have been alive.
The ONLY arguments I can see for Jason here are the All-Blades, which debatably might not work due to the Infinity Formula being sorta magic but not really, and his venom, which isn’t standard and doesn’t have enough showings to prove he’s over Bucky.
But EVEN THEN, Bucky’s weapons have harmed Frost Giants and Red Hulk and even IF Jason could be stronger than both, I have just the scan to shut that shit down.
Yes, that IS Bucky crushing a goddamn Cosmic Cube, aka those things that contain fucking universes in them and are ungodly powerful, in his metal arm. Is it outliery af? Yes, but so is Jason scaling to Supergirl and Mongul. The scaling game ain’t a game Jason wants to play with Bucky.
So yeah, Bucky’s winning this. He’s got pretty much every advantage he needs and Jason’s are minimal or shaky at best. Jason doesn’t have a shot of taking on the WInter Soldier, as he’s Buck outta luck, while Barnes is gonna paint Jason’s Hood Red

(BA-BA-BA-BA-BA-BA-BA-BA-BACK)
Alright first let me just say; Flash vs Sonic delivered amazingly. My favorite debate of all time actually happened and the person I wanted to win, won. All the hype and build up to that moment felt dope as shit. Then after I stopped yelling like an ape in nearly all my Discord servers, I thought “oh wait who's next?”
Aw shit
I’ll be honest I didn’t expect them to do this so soon, especially after a DC character just did a match-up. Not saying I’m not hyped for it, but it's also like “already?” Especially after DC has just won again, so already this feels incredibly geared towards Bucky winning. DC has won every time this season. Do I mind? Yes and no. I’m a pretty big hardcore DC fan, grew up with it yadda yadda yadda, so its cool to see that my favorite franchise is kicking ass especially with characters that I’ve written DeviantArt profiles on, but at the same time its not the only franchise I like, and I too would like to see less of it to give other verses possible opportunities to get in the ring. I think next season I’d like there to only be one Marvel vs DC fight, one non-Marvel vs DC fight, and one non-DC vs Marvel fight since obviously they won’t stop doing those types of fights because they surround lots of hype, but a little more of anything else would also be cool. But I digress there. Anyway, let's talk about this match-up; for a while I’ve backed Red Hood but has my opinion changed? Let's find out;
Strength/Durability: Now, I could take the easy route and just say that both of them hit city block/town level (depending on what you believe) and that Bucky edges out because of his arm, but there's not really any fun in that so I think for a grounded fight like this we gotta compare their absolute best feats or scaling. Now for Jason, hes got some pretty nifty scaling in terms of strength. For one, he can pretty soundly be scaled to Batman and even Deathstroke, and if you know me, I’m a member of the Church of City Level Deathstroke, and if you don’t believe our holy scriptures then he still comes out MCB/Small Town so thats pretty good, as well as breaking off the neck and arm of a large Talon, and these guys can pummel Batman and no-sell hits from Black Canary. So pretty good scaling and if you want individual feats, two of his best ones in my opinion are punching through an underwater submarine hull and holding up a collapsing roof.
Now what about Bucky? Well..
Oh yeah. He does. Bucky has scaling involving numerous street level characters such as Hawkeye and Daredevil and even the Punisher, but his best scaling is with two people; Miles Morales and Iron Man. Now for Miles, he has the explosion feat in Spider-verse as well as this feat tanking a super-charged attack from Electro who influenced this massive storm over New York. And for Iron Man, he scales to tanking repulsor blasts from him, which have been shown to generate a 20 kiloton explosion. Bucky on his own with the arm too is pretty strong, being able to break metal and rip apart metal chains. So for strength, Bucky takes the majority but Jason isn’t too far behind, same with durability. More to scale too, but if you limit scaling their durabilities are kinda dead even since conventional weapons are something they both have.
Speed: This is a stat I also think doesn’t matter too much because they’re both soundly bullet timers but I’ll go over a few of their best feats anyways. Buckys’ dodged a huge laser attack from an Accuser when Captain America couldn’t, who was capable of dodging Electros’ lightning. Jason was able to speedblitz a group of metahumans and a team of SWATs. So overall they’re relatively even in terms of speed. If you want more scaling, Bucky should be comparable to Daredevil, who can react in a nanosecond and Jason scales Cassandra Cain, who can dodge bullets after they are fired.
Arsenal: I’m not gonna list every single thing in their arsenal because this is a street fighter. They’ve got firearms, lots and lots of firearms. And with these two, they’ve got weapons that are built for people way out of their league...basically the pinnacle of a street level fight. So a matter of ‘who has more’ is out of the window in my opinion and the question shifts too ‘who has better weapons’. Their firearms are more than they should be for the average street level fighter. Jasons pistols alone are stated to be some of the strongest handguns made by man and Bucky has a missile launcher that can take out a Crimson Dynamo in one shot. And that's just the tip of the iceberg. Jason's guns can pierce through the skin of King Shark, whose skin has been proven to be bulletproof and even pierce Deathstroke's armor. His bullets (presumably Kryptonite?) are able to actually hurt Supergirl which is just about as bonkers as one can get. Now what does Bucky bring to the table? He has a gun that can harm a Frost Giant, and these guys are a match for Asgardian Gods. Hm. Thats cool. But in my opinion the HUGE saving grace for Bucky…
That Luger. That sweet ass Luger.
This Luger GOES places dude. It's able to stagger Ares, the God of War himself, hard enough to send him flying, damage members of the Wrecking Crew, and even cause Red Hulk pain by shooting him in the eye. So basically if they both shot each other with their strongest guns, Bucky’s bullets would break Jason’s into pieces. Don’t get me wrong Jasons is certainly impressive, but under the assumption that it is Kryptonite, it becomes a case of “good against Kryptonians, so-and-so against everything else” vs a bullet that can yeet the God of War. But of course, I can’t forget a huge weapon of Jason;
The All-Blades. Magical blades connected to his very soul and can materialize them into his hands whenever he wants. These swords are incredibly magical and powerful, up there with the likes of the Sword of Hephaestus and possibly the Godkiller. Originally they could only be summoned in the presence of absolute evil but since his training with the All Caste this drawback has since been removed and can summon them normally. But there's still a catch: these swords only work on magic beings such as the Untitled or the Amazons. And as far as I’m concerned, Bucky is not pure evil nor is he magical. So unfortunately, these blades are...very much a useless non-factor against Bucky. In terms of their armors, Red Hood has an insanely durable mask that is bulletproof and can give him access to night vision and breathe underwater, and Bucky's domino mask allows him to map out areas, see through walls and spot invisible enemies, rendering Jason’s camouflage tech very useless. So I’d say Jason has a bigger arsenal, but Bucky has a more effective arsenal.
Skill/Experience: This is a pretty 50/50 factor for me. They both have a plethora of skill and experience and the two can be put in the same section despite being slightly different. In terms of skill, Jason in my opinion should edge out because he's got that Bat Blood in him. The first time he met Cassandra Cain, he was about to kill her until Dick stopped him. Not only was he able to counteract her body reading ability but change his fighting style to where she couldn’t use it in the first place. He's taken down Lady Shiva herself (and Shiva has a very small loss record, shes in the top five deadliest martial artists in DC Comics), a weakened Deathstroke, and beat Batman when he first came back to town. Against Batman, Jason claims he was holding back whenever they fought, though so was Bruce in this case. He also fought and beat an incredibly amped Ra’s Al Ghul in a fight, who had just been granted the power of the Untitled. Bucky as well has displayed proficient combat against capable martial artists and other street level characters, such as fighting a holding back Captain America, taking down Black Widow and Crossbones, beating Burnside Cap, a physically stronger version of Captain America and most impressively fought off the combined efforts of Daredevil, Wolverine, and Hawkeye until Cap stops the fight. So all around they’ve fought skilled fighters but overall skill and learning is a point for Jason, and yes it is partially because of training with Batman. And I know that's a solidly default excuse, but considering EVERYTHING Batman himself has trained for, it's no surprise Jason gets treatment that is similar to that level. Now, there's also other types of skills such as marksmanship so I’ve come prepared:
These in my opinion are objectively both of their best marksmanship feats by default. Bucky was able to nail Daredevils’ billy clubs despite being thrown at him mid-air, and Jason was able to shoot Orphan’s sword right down the middle of it, causing it to break and explode, knocking Orphan back. So when it comes to marksmanship, I think they’re both pretty dead even in my opinion. Now we get into experience, which yes can be discussed as a tad bit different from skill, meaning stuff that they can do outside of skill. Bucky has had years upon years worth of training and experience as a soldier in World War II and as the Winter Soldier has had an amazing amount of assassinations, whereas Jason takes after Batman and is able to analyze the weaknesses of opponents such as when he found out the weakness of the Iron Rule and hack into a government database with ease and he’s equipped with that instinctual prep time smarts. Both are able to get the drop on opponents such as Jason sneaking up on Deathstroke and Bucky getting the drop on Wolverine both of which can be pretty classified as enhanced in terms of senses. So in terms of experience, Bucky takes it due to his far longer years as a soldier and should be just as smart as Jason in terms of fighting in the battlefield.
Final Verdict: So for a grounded street fight, this is pretty even in some categories, but in my opinion Bucky simply edges out. He’s got the stat trinity locked and secured, he’s not too far behind on overall skill, and in the battlefield he should be fine against someone such as Jason. So the overall stats for me come down too;
--Metal arm gives slight edge in strength
--Durability shouldn’t have much of a gap seeing as they both have a wide array of conventional weapons to hurt each other with
--Just as fast as Jason
--More effective arsenal compared to Jason’s bigger one
--All-Blades cannot affect Bucky
--Not far behind on skill at all
--Overall equal intelligence and control of the battlefield psychologically and is also a lot calmer
So for me, the Winter Soldier is going to put Jason into a long winter’s nap (everyone stole the good puns I’m sorry).
"I never asked -- never wanted -- to be Captain America. But that mask, those stars and stripes, that shield... they change you. I can see now the burden that Steve's always carried. And it feels strange to admit I want that burden back... But underneath it all, what I really know is... I want to deserve it ...somehow."
Da Lunge Fish
So, my prediction for this one. Everybody who wanted a DC L, you're gonna get it now. So, in my humble opinion, the winner is Bucky…
O’HARE! CAPTAIN BUCKY O’HARE!
TONY STARK’S FATHERS AND TODDS, BEWARE!
You get it, right? “Todds” beware? Funny, am I not? Okay, basically, I’m kinda repeating that everybody else here says. Bucky just statstomps. He oneshots, as he can easily be large town, while Jason is Multi City Block at most. Bucky’s FTL feats are also far more consistent. Jason probably has a bit more unpredictable arsenal, but Bucky’s more lethal. Jason is smarter and better at martial arts, but this doesn’t mean shit since the stat gap is that big. Basically, this:
[The Spider-Man character] blitzes and one shots [The Batman Character]. While you may be able to argue [The Batman Character] has better training and weapons, it hardly matters against [The Spider-Man Character]’s large stat advantage
Well, while Bucky technically wasn’t a Spider-man character, he scaled to him. Bucky will totally grab a win-ter.
Grandbull
This will be pretty simple. I think Winter Soldier out stats Jason and has better counters to all of his bat gear. Also the metal arm slaps Jason to a nearby skyscraper. Winter came early for the boy wonder. The winner is The Winter Soldier
The Draconic Hero
(Nothing like a little live action to liven things up. Eheh...heh...okay I’ll stop)
Hey, everyone! I’ve been on a break for the past couple Death Battles. Video games, anime, the works. Anyway, loved the last 3 fights. They were amazing, especially Beerus Vs Galaxia. BOO-YAH! So happy Beerus won!
Ahem, anyway. This fight. To be honest, I’m still not really sure. Everyone keeps saying that “Bucky’s weapons hurt more. Bigger arsenal. Bleeeurrrgh.” But I’m not buying it. At the end of the day, Jason and Bucky are flesh and blood humans. A gun is a gun and will kill them just as dead at the end of the day barring PIS. Additionally, both have significant experience dodging gunfire, so long range DPS here is pretty much null-en void as far as I’m concerned. Sure, Bucky has a flamethrower, which Jason does NOT have so that might help, so little advantage for Buck, I guess?
As for the stat trinity. What it looks like to me is that even though Bucky holds the stat trinity on lockdown, what he can survive far outweighs what he can dish out. And more to the point, what he can dish out isn’t egregious enough to overcome the punishment Jason can take right back. Bucky has a higher threshold for pain so over time, he’s likely to come out the winner.
Here’s where it gets tricky
Jason’s Bat family training is far superior than anything Bucky has been trained in. Bucky knows 6 martial arts. Jason knows 9. However, in this case it’s quality over quantity. A few of Bucky’s martial arts are anti-weapon martial arts, effectively making any bonus the All-Blades could give Jason effectively useless and just opening him up to Bucky using those very same weapons against him, if given the chance. Additionally, Bucky’s wealth of experience and ability to negate stealth help equalize Jason’s superior training.
So where does that leave us? The Unskilled but Strong Bucky Vs the Weak But Skilled Jason. And the biggest issue is that that’s the kind of stacked deck the Bat family deals with all the damn time. Sure, Bucky punches above his weight bracket frequently, but it’s kind of a bat family staple is what I’m driving at. And fist to fist, barring any weapons, Jason’s packing more ways to take Bucky on up close in a standard fist fight. Only question is: will his training and intelligence under Batman help him overtake Bucky?
My answer is: No. Maybe I want a Marvel win that damn badly, but given how many blow for blow counters the other has, Bucky has some small advantages that will tip the odds in his favor: the flamethrower (something Jason doesn’t have an immediate counter to in terms of arsenal and if he’s wearing metal armor, that just makes it worse. Look up the torture device Brass Bull for more info), his metal arm gives him a superior on-hand armor and weapon at the same time and he holds the stat trinity. Sure, Jason makes up for the stat trinity by being trained by Batman, but since it’ll be harder to wear down Bucky and he has no immediate weakness for Jason to exploit, I think Bucky has just enough of what it takes to bring the Red Hood down.
Fingers crossed, but I’m rooting for you Bucky. Red Hood is going to get Winterminated. (Wow. I don’t know if my pun is worse than Sam’s XD)

Since it’s my first time on the blog, I’d like to start off by thanking Clockboxxer for letting me join in on this one. I’ll admit that I was expecting Red Hood to fight the Punisher, so it was kind of surprising to me when I saw that they were going with Winter Soldier as his opponent. It was even more surprising when I found out that they were going with live action for this match. Admittedly, I thought Nightwing vs Daredevil was kinda boring, so I wasn’t really expecting much going in. Needless to say, the preview, as short as it was, managed to raise my hopes up. As for the verdict, I’m going with the majority and saying that Bucky should be the one to take this.
In terms of strength and durability, Bucky’s ability to contend with the likes of Punisher, Daredevil, and Hawkeye would put him at City Block to Multi-City Block at minimum. And if we go by higher end feats of harming Iron Man, whose repulsor blasts can generate a 20 kiloton explosion, and being comparable to Captain America, who can strike with the force of 3 kilotons and has shown and stated that he can survive explosions of similar power; he would be Town Level. Meanwhile, Jason’s feats of harming Batman and Deathstroke would easily net him around Multi-City Block at minimum and Small Town at maximum.
Speed, meanwhile, is actually pretty close. Bucky’s shown that he can keep up with Daredevil, who can react in a nanosecond, and is comparable to Cap, who has shown multiple instances of reacting to attacks that move at the speed of light and kept up with characters of similar feats. Red Hood’s shown multiple feats of dodging or reacting to bullets, which would put him at a noticeable disadvantage normally, but if we scale him to fellow street tier characters like Black Canary, Batman, and Deathstroke, then he would have similar speeds to Bucky.
So they’re comparable in speed, while Bucky’s got an edge in strength and durability. But what about their other capabilities?
Well, in terms of experience, Bucky has Jason beat. Outside of having more history due to having existed since the 1940’s, Bucky’s time serving in World War 2, as well as his decades of experience as an assassin, ultimately give him the edge here. While Jason’s training under Batman does give him an edge in terms of fighting style, as he knows 9 martial arts compared to Bucky’s 6, it likely wouldn’t be able to help him that much; especially when you consider how easily Bucky can combine his weaponry with his martial arts to make CQC more difficult.
Speaking of weaponry, I feel that this is one of the closest aspects of the fight. In terms of versatility, Red Hood’s got tasers, batarangs, bladed weapons, and bolas; in addition to firearms and explosives like Winter Soldier has. When it comes to capabilities, however, I feel Winter Soldier has the better options. His various firearms all have their fair share of advantages over Hood’s (more options due to larger arsenal of guns, better range, better accuracy, superior rate of fire, larger number of rounds, etc), he carries a larger number of knives, his bionic arm gives him unpredictability with its various functions, and he can easily counter Red Hood’s stealth by using his mask’s scanning technology or listening gear. Plus, the Infinity Formula gives him a healing factor that would let him withstand any attacks that Red Hood could manage to get off. As for the All-Blades,. even if we ignore the inconsistencies as to whether or not it can affect non-magic users, Bucky’s training in Sambo could potentially allow him to disarm Jason and use the blades for himself. Plus, while these blades are capable of matching the Sword of Hephaestus, there’s the slight problem that it’s unlikely Jason would be willing to go for them at the start. Most of the time, Jason tends to use normal weaponry like knives and firearms when fighting others, and considering Winter Soldier’s already-established comparable speed, better CQC training, superior strength, durability, and superior arsenal; it’s unlikely he’d last long enough to even consider using them.
Jason may have been trained by Batman, but he just couldn’t Soldier through this no-holds-Barnes-d beating.

My new pfp strikes fear into the hearts of the brave
Every Marvel street tier defeats every DC street tier GGs. This is the law of the land, just as how every DC herald shall defeat every Marvel herald. Yet despite this being a well known fact of reality, there are those who have dared to question it. Allow me to epically destroy them and put them in their place.
Jokes aside, Jason Todd holds several of his own advantages, and I can easily see him taking this episode. There has even been some debate as to the tiering of the All Blade, which if herald, would surely cut Bucky to ribbons. However, stats aside, I still see the Winter Soldier holding an overall advantage.
Yes, Jason was trained by Batman, which would automatically make him martial arts and intelligence God, but Bucky still holds a solid experience advantage and isn't a slouch when it comes to training and skill either, so I don't think this is a good enough argument to give Red Hood the win solely based off that.
Bucky's equipment and abilities seem to hold a more diverse and practical usage than Jason's. He can use an EMP while being unaffected by it himself, he has more weapons and functions with different practicalities, has a healing factor and can use smoke grenades. Essentially, Jason will have to resort to his less advanced weaponry while he can't see and gets out-gunned, out-punched and it will be difficult for him to deal any long lasting damage.
You can argue that they are similar speed wise, however even then I'd argue that lightspeed and beyond is far more reliable for Bucky. They both have nanosecond statements, yes, but there are also a plethora of lightspeed spider-man feats, as well as any time someone dodges or intercepts Cyclops's optic beams, which, while they may not be technical lasers, they are still lightspeed.
The AP/Dura debate really isn't something Jason wants to get into. While it's not impossible, it can at times be difficult to argue Jason is small town. Meanwhile, this exists (which Spider-Man, who bucky scales to, survived). Now I have seen this feat calced dozens of times, but the results have always ranged from large town - city level, far beyond anything Todd scales to.
In short, Jason is going to be severely limited in this fight against Bucky, and is going to fall behind in the physical as well. In order for Red Hood to win, you will need to twist around ALL of the high end Marvel feats that Bucky scales to and then go "Jason wins because he was trained by Batman", while also treating that as arbitrarily superior to Bucky's experience and arsenal advantage. As cool as Red Hood is, his arguments just aren't enough to put a solid foothold into. Bucky's got this.

A different Link pfp this time. This might be a trend for me.
Second time on the blog and for such a momentous battle, no less. It’s awesome to finally see another Live Action fight after Nightwing vs Daredevil, and for one so heavily requested. Coming off of Wally West vs Archie Sonic, the fight was clean, the music was hype as hell, and the results were as almost everyone predicted (RIP my boy Sonic again). And coming off of a fight I wanted DC to lose, but knew they’d win, we go to one where I actually do want the DC character to win, but I’m confident in Bucky taking home the victory against Jason here. So a DC loss after all this time on one of the few I didn’t want them to lose. There’s got to be some sort of irony there. But here’s why the Winter Soldier should beat Red Hood, and Marvel finally gets their well-deserved win.
Speed: Getting the easy category out of the way first, both are easily bullet timers and have good scaling feats. Bucky scales to Captain America dodging Electro’s lightning, and other characters like Hawkeye and Daredevil, who can react in a nanosecond. Jason has been able to speedblitz a SWAT team and a group of Metahumans, and scales to characters like Katana, who can block automatic fire at massively hypersonic speeds, and Cassandra Cain, who can avoid bullets after they’ve been fired. Bucky should just edge Jason out here.
Strength/Durability: Both combatants have some crazy feats of strength on their own, like Jason breaking through the hull of a submarine and fighting the city level Deathstroke (yes, I am one of the people who believe city level Deathstroke), plus, even if you don’t believe it, he still comes out to town/multi-city block levels of power, so it’s good for him. Bad news, is that everything he can do, Bucky can do better. His metal arm gives him more than enough striking strength on it’s own, and if it came to a hand to hand bout, Bucky is punching Jason harder than Jason is punching Bucky. And he’s taken shots from Iron Man’s repulsor blasts, which generate explosions of over 20 kilotons. Plus, he’s fought against Electro, who influenced a storm that covered all of New York. Winter Soldier narrowly takes this category.
Weaponry: The name of the game with these two is guns. And lots of them.

I've been waiting three years for this episode and it's finally here
Oh and Bucky wins. Stronger, faster, equal in skill. The end.
Can't say what's been said a dozen times already.
(If he gets cheesed out of a win, then fuck me I guess)
This was an intresting fight to work on. I am pretty confident that WS has this :D
ReplyDeleteI am supriesed about the verdict as I thought Red Hood was going to win at first, but this just shows how the tides can turn once research is given. Overall, you guys done an amazing job for this verdict as I thought it truly did justice to both fighters. I can not wait for the full fight.
ReplyDeleteYeah
DeleteEh ... I kind of disagree with the notion that Bucky is faster, Batman was fast enough to keep up with Captain America in JLA/Avengers (Although Batman did say he could loose after a prolonged battle, though Batman later defeated Taskmaster in the same story so ... IDK), and Batman has tons of FTL scaling from all the attacks he's dodged over the years. LOL
ReplyDeleteSo on that front, I think they're both equal in that department TBH.
Everything else looks pretty good. Although I'm a bit disappointed you guys didn't include Jason's Venom, as it's actually supposedly more potent then Bane's venom, and potentially scales Jason to New 52 Starfire.I'm not certain though, so don't quote me on that one.
I also would've liked like to have seen the more out-there gear Bucky has during his time as Nick Fury's Man on the Wall, as that gear has some absurd scaling behind it.

DeleteOh, and also ... the Supergirl and scaling is bunk. for Supergirl, she was simply trying to grip him like she would an ordinary human, and wasn't using her full strength.
DeleteAs for the Mongul scaling ... well, that comes from Jason saving the life of Mongul's son, Jochi. However, there's two problems with this:
1) Jochi isn't on par with Mongul. Mongul one-shotted him because of how much of a disappointment he was.
2) All Jason did was distract the alien Jochi was fighting by slicing at it's legs with the All-Blades, allowing Jochi the chance to rip off it's head and win the fight. It didn't even really seem to damage the alien TBH, it just surprised it.
Oh, also also: Jason has a spell that can nullify magical powers. It's strong enough to work on a Godly Ra's Al Ghul who was so powerful at the time that even TRIGON took notice. It doesn't help him in any way against Bucky, but it is kind of funny.
DeleteOh, also also also: Deathstroke was weakened at the time when he fought Jason. He was recovering from a neurotoxin he just got injected with in the previous issue, and thus, wasn't operating at 100% capacity.
DeleteSorry for all the comments, BTW. I just have a lot of thoughts about this particular battle. Have a good day, y'all. Peace.
DeleteEdit: It just occurred to me that Batman beat Taskmaster before Taskmaster learned how to speed-up his attacks by playing sped-up footage of his opponents. Before Taskmaster learned how to do that, he would always run-away whenever he was being confronted by Cap. It wasn't until after that he would start winning pretty consistently against him. Never-mind, Cap should be able to beat 'em.
